- 0:00Speaker 1: We started the show, I'm going to just ask you
- 0:02Speaker 1: this because we'll join the conversation. You can join the
- 0:04Speaker 1: conversation we had, Luke. We started to show with some
- 0:07Speaker 1: of the news out of Kansas City that the Chiefs
- 0:09Speaker 1: are saying that Patrick Mahomes's return from Aco his injury
- 0:13Speaker 1: in December, that he will probably be on the field
- 0:15Speaker 1: for OTAs, which would suggest that he's going to be
- 0:18Speaker 1: on the field for Week one. Do you think that
- 0:21Speaker 1: means the chief Seahawks is going to kick off the
- 0:23Speaker 1: NFL season if the league knows that Mahomes is going
- 0:25Speaker 1: to be on the field for it.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it it definitely makes it a compelling,
- 0:32Speaker 2: compelling candidate for that slot, right I think, I mean,
- 0:35Speaker 2: they would have to have some pretty significant assurances that
- 0:38Speaker 2: that would be the case, though, Yeah. I mean, I
- 0:40Speaker 2: think from the Chiefs side of things, you can say
- 0:42Speaker 2: that all you want, and you want to, you know,
- 0:44Speaker 2: create an encouraging storyline throughout the off season and optimism
- 0:49Speaker 2: for your fan base. But you know, I think the
- 0:51Speaker 2: doctors are going to have the final say, as they
- 0:53Speaker 2: always should on that, and so I think I think
- 0:55Speaker 2: it would be a risky move for the league in
- 0:58Speaker 2: may to make a plan based on that slot that
- 1:01Speaker 2: would be dependent on him being ready. I think it
- 1:04Speaker 2: definitely could be on their minds, but that's a gamble
- 1:07Speaker 2: I think at this point in the process.
- 1:09Speaker 1: So you'd more on the side of maybe the Bears
- 1:12Speaker 1: or the Cowboys or.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Yeah, something where it's just you're not hinging that on
- 1:18Speaker 2: the fact that the quarterback who's coming off a season
- 1:20Speaker 2: ending knee injury, a late season knee injury at that
- 1:23Speaker 2: would be the most important aspect of why you have
- 1:26Speaker 2: that in that slot for that for at least one
- 1:29Speaker 2: of those teams, I think that's risky business there.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Lugie Sering Afron Swarts joining us on the Beacon Plumbing hotline.
- 1:35Speaker 1: You've written about what you perceive going into the draft,
- 1:38Speaker 1: and most people agreed the lack of running back depth
- 1:41Speaker 1: in this draft, and now it just fell off a
- 1:43Speaker 1: cliff after the top two guys. Yet the Seahawks chose
- 1:46Speaker 1: a running back in the first round, the Cardinals chose
- 1:49Speaker 1: one at three overall. What'd you make of those two picks,
- 1:52Speaker 1: in particular the Cardinals with Jeremiah Love and then the
- 1:55Speaker 1: Seahawks Jedarian Price in the first round.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I think part of the they went so high,
- 2:00Speaker 2: it's because those were the good ones. Like if you
- 2:04Speaker 2: ask around the league, to drop off between those two
- 2:06Speaker 2: Notre Dame guys and pretty much everybody else in this
- 2:09Speaker 2: running back class, it was it was significant. And I
- 2:11Speaker 2: think that speaks to you know, Love is a little
- 2:15Speaker 2: bit of a different case because regardless of position, I
- 2:17Speaker 2: think you could make the case that he was the
- 2:18Speaker 2: best overall player in this entire draft. I had him
- 2:21Speaker 2: at number two behind Caleb Downs in terms of just
- 2:24Speaker 2: the prospects that they are. You know, he's going to
- 2:28Speaker 2: be interesting because Arizona, you know, you can make the
- 2:30Speaker 2: argument that they need a lot more than a running back,
- 2:32Speaker 2: and they know that. But honestly, if you look at
- 2:36Speaker 2: recent history, and I've got something in the magazine about
- 2:39Speaker 2: this is basically everybody wants to say that the league
- 2:42Speaker 2: devalues the position. I think we have to understand that
- 2:44Speaker 2: there's just different values placed on different types of prospects.
- 2:48Speaker 2: And so I've said this many times before, but if
- 2:50Speaker 2: you want a decent running back, a productive running back,
- 2:53Speaker 2: you can find that guy in the third or fourth round.
- 2:56Speaker 2: But you might also find, you know, draft the guy
- 2:59Speaker 2: assuming he can just be productive and he ends up
- 3:02Speaker 2: doing nothing. Go ask the San Francisco forty nine ers
- 3:04Speaker 2: how much they've done that over the last ten years,
- 3:05Speaker 2: taking random running backs in the third or fourth round,
- 3:08Speaker 2: and they never do anything as opposed to taking a guy.
- 3:11Speaker 2: If you look back at the last ten years, if
- 3:13Speaker 2: you look at every running back drafted in the top twelve,
- 3:16Speaker 2: I think maybe Leonard Fournette is maybe the only one
- 3:19Speaker 2: where you feel like that guy didn't live up to
- 3:22Speaker 2: his draft slot, and even then, like he had a
- 3:24Speaker 2: couple of really good years in Jacksonville. He has a
- 3:26Speaker 2: really key component in the playoff run to help the
- 3:29Speaker 2: Bucks win a Super Bowl back in twenty twenty. But
- 3:32Speaker 2: if you look at every other running back that's taken
- 3:34Speaker 2: in that range, I mean, it's Saquon, it's Zeke, it's McCaffrey,
- 3:39Speaker 2: it's Bjon Robinson, it's Tamir Gibbs. Like all of those
- 3:42Speaker 2: guys have hit. And so you can have the conversation
- 3:45Speaker 2: about whether or not that's smart team building, but you
- 3:48Speaker 2: can't really argue with the fact that the recent history
- 3:50Speaker 2: tells us that those guys that are drafted to be
- 3:52Speaker 2: superstars end up being superstars. And so that's why I
- 3:55Speaker 2: think Love ended up going number three. Price, I think again,
- 3:58Speaker 2: he's a first round pick who never started a game
- 4:00Speaker 2: in college, and that's hilarious as a stat But if
- 4:03Speaker 2: you look at just isolate him as a player. You
- 4:05Speaker 2: can even listen to Jeremiah Love isolate him as a player.
- 4:07Speaker 2: He did an interview with Doug Farar for athlon sports
- 4:10Speaker 2: dot Com where he gave his own scouting report of
- 4:12Speaker 2: Jediium Price and was basically like, I don't know why
- 4:14Speaker 2: he didn't leave, Like he could have gone and started
- 4:16Speaker 2: for pretty much everybody else, but he wanted to stay here.
- 4:18Speaker 2: I think Seahawks fans are going to be really, really
- 4:20Speaker 2: happy what he brings to that backfield, especially with you know,
- 4:23Speaker 2: Walker gone and Sharbonay coming off the knee injury. Jadarion
- 4:26Speaker 2: Price is going to surprise a lot of people because
- 4:28Speaker 2: I think they tab him as a backup and they're
- 4:30Speaker 2: going to find out real quick that he was worthy
- 4:32Speaker 2: of that pick.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Price told us that HEAs he didn't leave as he
- 4:35Speaker 1: wanted to be challenged by BnB with competing against the
- 4:38Speaker 1: best running back in the league in the nation. One
- 4:41Speaker 1: of the reason this is Luke He's doing Athlon Sports
- 4:44Speaker 1: joining us on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline on ninety three
- 4:46Speaker 1: point three KJRFM Luke.
- 4:48Speaker 3: I read your article that on six teams that crushed
- 4:51Speaker 3: the Twins twenty six NFL Draft, and the Seahawks didn't
- 4:53Speaker 3: make the cut. So I'd like to ask what, looking
- 4:56Speaker 3: at the teams like the Ravens and the Buccaneers loading
- 4:59Speaker 3: up on premium positions, where do you think the Seahawks
- 5:02Speaker 3: came up a little short? Was it pass rush, O
- 5:05Speaker 3: line or flat out playmakers?
- 5:08Speaker 2: Well, I think I think honestly in terms of that list,
- 5:11Speaker 2: you're you're the Seahawks were playing with with uh less
- 5:16Speaker 2: uh less capital, right. I mean that that's really the
- 5:18Speaker 2: only thing that that bogs them down in terms when
- 5:20Speaker 2: you only have three picks in the top one hundred
- 5:23Speaker 2: and you know what three you know, first, second, and
- 5:25Speaker 2: third round is what they ended up with. They didn't
- 5:27Speaker 2: pick again until the fifth You know that that's tough
- 5:30Speaker 2: to fill every need you have. I thought they really
- 5:32Speaker 2: did did great in terms of value in terms of
- 5:34Speaker 2: getting their needs. A dress, when you wait till the
- 5:36Speaker 2: fifth round and you can still get an Iowa offensive lineman,
- 5:39Speaker 2: I really don't care who you are if you played
- 5:40Speaker 2: offensive line at Iowa and I draft you in the
- 5:42Speaker 2: fifth round. I'm probably gonna be happy with that, and
- 5:44Speaker 2: I think they will be happy with both Stevens. I
- 5:46Speaker 2: think he's a fantastic player and I like the value there.
- 5:49Speaker 2: But those first three picks for Seattle, I love the
- 5:52Speaker 2: players and I love the fifth. Bud Clark in the
- 5:55Speaker 2: second round. Is that pure center fielding safety that's just
- 5:58Speaker 2: gonna drop back, single high and take the ball away.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Go look at what Caylem Bullock has done in Houston
- 6:06Speaker 2: the last year or two. Everybody knocked him for being,
- 6:09Speaker 2: you know, kind of a one trick pony of a safety, like, oh,
- 6:11Speaker 2: you can only cover he doesn't really play the run.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Like yeah, well, then I'll put you in my scheme
- 6:15Speaker 2: and make sure you are in position to do what
- 6:17Speaker 2: you do best, and I don't ask you to come
- 6:19Speaker 2: down in the box very often. I think if Bud
- 6:21Speaker 2: Clark ends up in a role like that, I think
- 6:22Speaker 2: they're going to be really really happy with the playmaking
- 6:24Speaker 2: that he brings to the table. And then Julian Neil,
- 6:27Speaker 2: I just you know, the quint essential Seahawks proto type
- 6:30Speaker 2: of a corner. But I think he's got safety potential
- 6:32Speaker 2: as well. So when you talk about the way Mike
- 6:34Speaker 2: McDonald wants to be multiple on that side of the
- 6:36Speaker 2: field and use guys that can it just allows you
- 6:40Speaker 2: to disguise so much when you don't know whether he's
- 6:42Speaker 2: staying up or dropping, or whether he's going to go
- 6:45Speaker 2: single high. You can do so many things pre im
- 6:47Speaker 2: post snap when you have guys like Julian Neal on
- 6:50Speaker 2: the field because of the size, the athleticism, the versatility
- 6:52Speaker 2: he brings. So again, you know, all four of those
- 6:56Speaker 2: late round picks are kind of you know, lottery picks,
- 6:59Speaker 2: and if any of them, you know, hit, that's fine.
- 7:02Speaker 2: But I really like what they did with those first
- 7:04Speaker 2: four selections. It's just a matter of the teams that
- 7:06Speaker 2: made that lift. If you look at all of them,
- 7:08Speaker 2: it's teams that had a ton of picks, teams that
- 7:11Speaker 2: had a ton of early picks, and I thought did
- 7:13Speaker 2: really well with them in terms of matching value, in
- 7:15Speaker 2: terms of where I had those guys' rank. And then
- 7:17Speaker 2: with a team like the Bucks, where it's just you know,
- 7:19Speaker 2: Ruben Bain Junior falls into your laugh at fifteen when
- 7:22Speaker 2: he's the number four player on my board and the
- 7:24Speaker 2: Bucks confirmed he with a top five player on their
- 7:26Speaker 2: board after the draft. So it's less about what the
- 7:28Speaker 2: Seahawks did with their picks and more of the fact
- 7:30Speaker 2: that they just didn't have as much to work with
- 7:32Speaker 2: as a lot of those other teams that I thought
- 7:34Speaker 2: did really well. But I think the players they did
- 7:38Speaker 2: draft are going to fit well, They're going to get
- 7:39Speaker 2: good value, and I think Seahawks fans are going to
- 7:41Speaker 2: be happy with this class.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Luke Luke. A lot of talk down in the Bay
- 7:45Speaker 1: Area about the forty nine ers going totally against consensus
- 7:49Speaker 1: draft boards. They draft down twice, they get out of
- 7:51Speaker 1: the first round completely. They take Stribbling, the wide receiver
- 7:54Speaker 1: from old mess that some people thought was a second
- 7:56Speaker 1: day pick, third day, third fourth round. Guy, it's make
- 8:00Speaker 1: them at the top of the second round. I thought
- 8:02Speaker 1: you had a really good explanation online about consensus boards
- 8:06Speaker 1: versus team boards and what actually teams. Can you explain
- 8:09Speaker 1: what the difference is because people, I think they do
- 8:13Speaker 1: misunderstand consensus boards at the NFL draft.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Sure, and if you refer to what I said on Twitter,
- 8:19Speaker 2: like it's similar to what people say about mock drafts, right,
- 8:22Speaker 2: they get mad at me for writing mock drafts in
- 8:24Speaker 2: September and October, and they're like, these don't matter. What
- 8:26Speaker 2: are you doing? And like, if you judge an elephant
- 8:29Speaker 2: by its ability to climb a tree, you're going to
- 8:31Speaker 2: be disappointed. Like if you're if you're looking at something
- 8:35Speaker 2: and trying to judge it by a purpose, it's not
- 8:36Speaker 2: trying to hit, it's not trying to accomplish. Obviously you're
- 8:39Speaker 2: going to say it's not working. But that's not what
- 8:41Speaker 2: mock drafts are for. Mock drafts, especially early on, are
- 8:43Speaker 2: about educating the readers, the viewers on here are the
- 8:47Speaker 2: top players, here, what teams need. Here's a bunch of
- 8:50Speaker 2: different scenarios that could happen, so that when you actually
- 8:52Speaker 2: get to the draft, you've seen every different permutation and
- 8:56Speaker 2: can understand how the board could fall. And now you
- 8:58Speaker 2: have an idea of you know, eighty different scenarios. There
- 9:02Speaker 2: are a bunch of different players that your team could
- 9:04Speaker 2: end up with in an explanation for why any of
- 9:06Speaker 2: those would make sense. That's the value of a mock draft.
- 9:08Speaker 2: I'm not trying to get any pick right until the
- 9:10Speaker 2: day of the draft. That's the only mock draft I
- 9:12Speaker 2: actually try to do. So with the consensus board. It's
- 9:14Speaker 2: very similar where you know, thirty two teams have thirty
- 9:18Speaker 2: two different ways of stacking a board that are based
- 9:20Speaker 2: on a ton of team specific variables based on scheme
- 9:25Speaker 2: and the types of players and certain measurable thresholds in
- 9:29Speaker 2: terms of their size or or forty times or whatever.
- 9:31Speaker 2: When we do our thing in the media, we're not
- 9:34Speaker 2: a team. We don't do those things like we don't
- 9:36Speaker 2: have a scheme. We're just trying to tell readers and viewers, Hey,
- 9:40Speaker 2: we watched the film, this is what this player can do.
- 9:42Speaker 2: This is where he struggles right now, this is where
- 9:45Speaker 2: he needs to grow. These are the types of schemes
- 9:47Speaker 2: that they may fit into. But when you talk about
- 9:49Speaker 2: a consensus board, that at some point means this is
- 9:52Speaker 2: the general opinion of the media, even though I hate that,
- 9:57Speaker 2: like monolithic moniker, it's basically you're trying to it's still
- 10:00Speaker 2: one hundred and twenty people's opinions into an average board
- 10:03Speaker 2: to try to have an understanding of how the media
- 10:06Speaker 2: value as a player. That is not going to equate
- 10:09Speaker 2: app it's apples to oranges to what the teams are doing.
- 10:11Speaker 2: It's a completely different exercise. And so what I will
- 10:14Speaker 2: say is this though. The reason I think they're still
- 10:16Speaker 2: valuable in comparing what teams do and the forty nine
- 10:19Speaker 2: ers are a great example, is you can go back
- 10:21Speaker 2: and look at the last ten years of what the
- 10:23Speaker 2: consensus board would have said about some of their worst
- 10:25Speaker 2: picks and say that we were right. And I think
- 10:29Speaker 2: that's where the interesting conversation is, is that look at
- 10:32Speaker 2: the teams that continue to go kind of the furthest
- 10:34Speaker 2: away from the consensus, and we have enough data now
- 10:37Speaker 2: to look back and say, hey, you probably would have
- 10:39Speaker 2: been better off listening to those guys than doing what
- 10:41Speaker 2: you thought was best. And again, you know, it's all hindsight,
- 10:44Speaker 2: and that's part of what makes this fun. But I
- 10:46Speaker 2: think that's what people miss is that teams are trying
- 10:48Speaker 2: to do something different than what media is doing. But
- 10:50Speaker 2: it is fun to look at if they would have
- 10:52Speaker 2: gone a different route, how much successful more successful might
- 10:55Speaker 2: they have been?
- 10:57Speaker 1: Exactly Like the Seahawks was competitiveness. That was their number
- 11:00Speaker 1: one thing on their draft board this year. Guys, yeah,
- 11:03Speaker 1: we don't.
- 11:04Speaker 2: We don't have a we don't have a and again
- 11:06Speaker 2: we don't have medicals like we don't have team doctors
- 11:08Speaker 2: and like that. There's so many different things. It's a
- 11:10Speaker 2: different exercise, and again we have to remember it all
- 11:13Speaker 2: comes back to the stakes are different. We're we are
- 11:17Speaker 2: trying to inform and entertain an audience and cultivate a
- 11:20Speaker 2: knowledge of the sport. Everybody else trying to win games. Guys,
- 11:23Speaker 2: everybody else trying trying to fit to scheme. They're trying
- 11:26Speaker 2: to get on the field. They're trying to win games,
- 11:27Speaker 2: and it's a very very different mission.
- 11:30Speaker 3: Luke, how much of Seahawks taking JD. Price in the
- 11:33Speaker 3: first round do you think was about replacing K nine
- 11:36Speaker 3: production immediately versus shifting the identity of the offense potentially
- 11:41Speaker 3: long term?
- 11:44Speaker 2: You know, I don't. I think it's about stabilizing a
- 11:46Speaker 2: part of their offense that's.
- 11:48Speaker 4: Critical, right.
- 11:48Speaker 2: I think that if again you look at the rest
- 11:51Speaker 2: of the back, but it's not just K nine, it's
- 11:52Speaker 2: the fact that you don't know how soon Zach's going
- 11:55Speaker 2: to be back at full strength. And I think he's
- 11:57Speaker 2: he's such a perfect RB two, Like he's such a
- 12:00Speaker 2: perfect change of pace guy to especially a guy like
- 12:03Speaker 2: Price who's super explosive and the big play guy, and
- 12:06Speaker 2: to have Zach as kind of that floor that brings
- 12:08Speaker 2: you the power that can you know, eat up you know,
- 12:11Speaker 2: the dirty yards, especially late in the game, and keep
- 12:13Speaker 2: everybody fresh. But with price you just you're able to
- 12:18Speaker 2: bring big playability and keep offenses or keep defenses honest
- 12:22Speaker 2: and keep the play action game you strong. And it's
- 12:25Speaker 2: so important to Sam success as a passer then, so
- 12:28Speaker 2: I think it's about stabilizing the floor. But I also
- 12:30Speaker 2: think they're one of the few teams that I think
- 12:32Speaker 2: could take that luxury at the end the first round.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Is if you look around at the other needs, Yeah,
- 12:37Speaker 2: I think they're confident enough in their schematic strength to
- 12:41Speaker 2: maximize the talent that's already on the rosters where they
- 12:44Speaker 2: felt comfortable saying, hey, this is the last running back
- 12:47Speaker 2: on the board before a big drop, and it's one
- 12:49Speaker 2: of our bigger needs. We can fill that and not
- 12:52Speaker 2: pass up you know, other needs because there really aren't
- 12:54Speaker 2: many that are glaring. I think it's it was a
- 12:57Speaker 2: match of need and value that you can only really
- 13:00Speaker 2: put together if you're a defending champion without a lot
- 13:03Speaker 2: of other things to worry about.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Was there anything Luke that you saw at the top
- 13:07Speaker 1: of the draft that made you go, what what what
- 13:09Speaker 1: was that?
- 13:11Speaker 2: I mean, the easy one is the Rams, right, I
- 13:14Speaker 2: just I feel like we've beaten this drum the whole,
- 13:18Speaker 2: you know, the last two weeks. But it's just you know,
- 13:20Speaker 2: to a team. And again, I'm from Tampa. I saw
- 13:22Speaker 2: the Bucks make this mistake in twenty twenty one when
- 13:25Speaker 2: they came off their Super Bowl victory. They spent a
- 13:28Speaker 2: second round pick on Kyle Trast, quarterback out of Florida.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Every fan was like, what are you guys doing. We're
- 13:33Speaker 2: trying to win another Super Bowl. You literally brought the
- 13:35Speaker 2: entire starting roster back to try to run it back,
- 13:38Speaker 2: and you spend a second round pick on a guy
- 13:40Speaker 2: that you literally hope does not play this year. Right,
- 13:43Speaker 2: it's a bad thing if he touches the field. And
- 13:46Speaker 2: so for a team that went thirteen and four, that
- 13:48Speaker 2: Bucks team in twenty twenty one went thirteen and four
- 13:51Speaker 2: and got to the playoffs, and because they were you know,
- 13:54Speaker 2: missing guys on the offensive line, missing guys in the
- 13:56Speaker 2: secondary all season long and especially in the playoffs, it's
- 13:59Speaker 2: easy wonder if that second round pick had been an
- 14:01Speaker 2: offensive lineman or a defensive back, whether or not they
- 14:04Speaker 2: beat the Rams whether or not they go on and
- 14:06Speaker 2: win another Super Bowl. And so for the Rams, they
- 14:08Speaker 2: were like, you know, let's do that, but worse, I guess,
- 14:12Speaker 2: let's spend a top fifteen pick and overdraft a quarterback
- 14:15Speaker 2: and overdraft the guy that, again we hope does not
- 14:18Speaker 2: touch the field for at least another year or two.
- 14:20Speaker 2: And I think if they don't win a Super Bowl
- 14:23Speaker 2: this year or next year, whenever Matthew Stafford decides to
- 14:25Speaker 2: move on, everybody's going to rightfully look back at that
- 14:28Speaker 2: pick and say, hey, And again, it's not about I
- 14:31Speaker 2: saw something dan Orlowski on the ESPN talking about it.
- 14:33Speaker 2: You know, a third wide receiver's production isn't going to
- 14:36Speaker 2: make the difference between you winning a championship. It's not
- 14:38Speaker 2: about the production. It's about the moments. It's about the matchups.
- 14:41Speaker 2: It's about it's about being in Seattle in the NFC
- 14:45Speaker 2: Championship game and having Mackay Lemon as your third receiver
- 14:48Speaker 2: against the third quarter to win a third down rep
- 14:51Speaker 2: or to win a red zone rep. And so it's
- 14:53Speaker 2: those moments that set you apart. And I think that's
- 14:56Speaker 2: what's going to come back to bite them if they
- 14:58Speaker 2: don't end up taking home a Lombardi in the next
- 15:01Speaker 2: couple of years, while the top fifteen pick that they
- 15:04Speaker 2: won't have again, by the way, that was a pick
- 15:06Speaker 2: from Atlanta. You had an opportunity and they'll spend it
- 15:09Speaker 2: the other way. Right They'll say, hey, we'll never be
- 15:10Speaker 2: in position to take a quarterback like that. Well that's fine.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Ty Simpson was not a top fifty player for a
- 15:15Speaker 2: lot of us in the media, and you took him
- 15:16Speaker 2: at thirteen because you wanted to get a quarterback before
- 15:19Speaker 2: you needed one. Well, a top fifteen talent would would
- 15:22Speaker 2: really be helpful at a lot of other positions that
- 15:24Speaker 2: if they fall short, they're going to take a lot
- 15:26Speaker 2: of criticism for that, and rightfully.
- 15:27Speaker 3: So, some fantasy folks could probably use your help. I
- 15:31Speaker 3: know it's early, but you can never talk. You can
- 15:33Speaker 3: never have enough talk about fantasy. So with the Seahawks
- 15:36Speaker 3: having jd Price, where do you think a sweet spot
- 15:38Speaker 3: to draft him for the draft?
- 15:40Speaker 4: Would you say?
- 15:43Speaker 2: See, the problem with me and fantasy is that Dynasty
- 15:47Speaker 2: has ruined me as like an annual fantasy guy, like
- 15:50Speaker 2: a reed draft league. I'm ruined because I spent so
- 15:53Speaker 2: much time on Dynasty and obviously there's a direct thread
- 15:56Speaker 2: between being the draft guy and being a dynasty guy
- 15:57Speaker 2: because of the rookie drafts every year. So I'll say this,
- 16:00Speaker 2: I don't know where to place him in a red
- 16:02Speaker 2: draft league, but I've seen him in it as like
- 16:04Speaker 2: a rookie dynasty pick, being in like the sixth or
- 16:06Speaker 2: seventh overall range. I have him at like two or three,
- 16:10Speaker 2: right behind Jordan Love or right behind Jeremiah Love and
- 16:13Speaker 2: and right there with Carnell Tate as like everybody's gonna
- 16:17Speaker 2: take Love number one. If you have the second pick,
- 16:21Speaker 2: unless you're stacked at running back, I'm probably taking Jadarian
- 16:24Speaker 2: Price there. Like that's how much I am confident in
- 16:26Speaker 2: his talent. And I think he's landed in just a
- 16:28Speaker 2: perfect situation where he's gonna get the ball a lot
- 16:32Speaker 2: right away. He's gonna he's got three down value because
- 16:34Speaker 2: though so he can stay on the field on third downs,
- 16:36Speaker 2: he can catch the ball out of the backfield. So
- 16:37Speaker 2: your PPR leagues, you're getting points there. And it's a
- 16:41Speaker 2: healthy offense with a dominant defense, So you're gonna get
- 16:45Speaker 2: you know, you're running the ball a lot in the
- 16:46Speaker 2: second half, you're gonna get defenses that have to respect
- 16:50Speaker 2: the passing game, so you're not gonna be able to
- 16:51Speaker 2: load the box against them. Good luck loading the box
- 16:54Speaker 2: against any offense with Jackson Smith and Jigba in it,
- 16:56Speaker 2: and you're gonna pay for that very quickly. So I
- 16:58Speaker 2: just think he landed in a perfect situation and I
- 17:00Speaker 2: think he's going to get the ball a ton. So again,
- 17:02Speaker 2: I don't know where to draft him and redraft just yet,
- 17:04Speaker 2: but as a dynasty asset, I would say he's the
- 17:07Speaker 2: most valuable one not names Jeremiah Love. So that gives
- 17:10Speaker 2: you an idea of how I think of his value.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Okay, Luke, who what team has done either to the
- 17:15Speaker 1: draft or free agency the most you think in this
- 17:18Speaker 1: offseason to close a gap on winning a title.
- 17:23Speaker 2: You know, closing a gap on winning a title is tough.
- 17:26Speaker 2: But if I look at we're tired of saying this, right,
- 17:29Speaker 2: we were tired of the Jets winning an offseason. We're
- 17:31Speaker 2: tired of the Browns winning an offseason, and I just
- 17:33Speaker 2: have no faith in their front office. But I think
- 17:35Speaker 2: the most annoying thing I've had to do over the
- 17:37Speaker 2: last two weeks is it gives Jerry Jones his flowers
- 17:40Speaker 2: like I hate that. That makes me really annoyed, but
- 17:43Speaker 2: I just thought, I just think what they did in
- 17:44Speaker 2: the draft was fantastic. I think being able to get
- 17:47Speaker 2: the best player in the draft in Caleb Downs. And
- 17:50Speaker 2: you can talk about whether or not a safety should
- 17:52Speaker 2: be valued that high, I just don't care. He's such
- 17:55Speaker 2: an incredible football player and I think he'll fit so
- 17:57Speaker 2: well in that defense. And I think, again, you're in
- 18:00Speaker 2: a division where you know, Washington has Jayden Daniels and
- 18:03Speaker 2: if he's healthy, they'll be dangerous. But that defense is
- 18:06Speaker 2: still needs to prove that it can hold its weight.
- 18:08Speaker 2: The Giants, I don't think are going to be much,
- 18:10Speaker 2: you know, too much better this year right away. I
- 18:12Speaker 2: think hardball will slowly build that back. And then Philly's
- 18:15Speaker 2: just so inconsistent. So I think Dallas is right for
- 18:19Speaker 2: an opportunity to jump back into the playoff, the division
- 18:23Speaker 2: title conversation, and all you got to do is get
- 18:25Speaker 2: a ticket to the dance. So I'm a big fan
- 18:27Speaker 2: of Dak Prescott. I think he stabilizes things on that offense.
- 18:30Speaker 2: If Javonte Williams can stabilize the running game like he
- 18:32Speaker 2: did last year, I think what they've done on defense
- 18:36Speaker 2: in this draft. Got two of my favorite edge rushers
- 18:38Speaker 2: in this draft, and Malachi Lawrence and jay Jon Barram,
- 18:41Speaker 2: And again, I just think Caleb Downs is a transformative
- 18:44Speaker 2: player for that defense. He can line up everywhere. He's
- 18:48Speaker 2: lightning quick. He's such a smart player that he'll be,
- 18:50Speaker 2: you know, in one spot and you'll try to identify
- 18:52Speaker 2: him and by the time you turn around from your
- 18:54Speaker 2: play action fake, he's in your face or he's somewhere else.
- 18:56Speaker 2: And I just think he makes such a difference there.
- 18:58Speaker 2: So I think I think Dallas will go from that
- 19:00Speaker 2: team that's picking in the top fifteen to maybe going
- 19:03Speaker 2: deep into the playoffs because of what they've done this offseason,
- 19:06Speaker 2: the great style.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Where can we find your work?
- 19:10Speaker 2: Yeah, athlonsports dot com. Again on Twitter, I'm at Luke Easterling,
- 19:14Speaker 2: But on athlonsports dot Com we'll have updated, you know,
- 19:18Speaker 2: analysis all throughout the off season, a bunch of stuff
- 19:21Speaker 2: going into OTAs and into training camp, recapping this pass draft,
- 19:25Speaker 2: looking ahead already to twenty twenty seven. Obviously, we'll have
- 19:28Speaker 2: our college football preview magazine out here I think later
- 19:31Speaker 2: this month, and then NFL Preview and then Fantasy preview.
- 19:35Speaker 2: All the magazines will start coming out in advance of
- 19:36Speaker 2: the season. I know everybody gets excited. That's kind of
- 19:38Speaker 2: the beginning of the season for a lot of people
- 19:40Speaker 2: when those magazines start hitting shelves. So definitely look for those.
- 19:43Speaker 2: I'll have a bunch of content in those as well,
- 19:45Speaker 2: but definitely just go go to Athlon Sports, subscribe to
- 19:48Speaker 2: our newsletter. We've got a fantastic newsletter. My colleague Kyle
- 19:51Speaker 2: would just put so much work into it and it
- 19:53Speaker 2: kind of curates the best content on the website. So
- 19:55Speaker 2: you can get that in your email every day and
- 19:57Speaker 2: it just serves up the best stories that we're putting
- 19:59Speaker 2: out over there.
- 20:00Speaker 4: Thank you very much, sir, be well down there in Florida.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Take care. We'll talk to you soon.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Hey, thanks you, I take care.
- 20:07Speaker 1: I'll be in the Athlon Sports preview for the NFL
- 20:11Speaker 1: with the Seahawks season previd just turned that in last
- 20:14Speaker 1: week and updated it yesterday with the Dante Fowler news
- 20:17Speaker 1: the Seahawks. If you haven't heard, in agreement to have
- 20:19Speaker 1: a one year contract for worth potentially up to five
- 20:22Speaker 1: million dollars with the veteran edge pass rusher.
- 20:25Speaker 4: Up next your chance to be a part of the
- 20:26Speaker 4: show as we do it every day.
- 20:27Speaker 1: At eleven thirty reback your text in the Tacoma Dodge
- 20:30Speaker 1: text line. On ninety three point three KJRFM, Welcome back
- 20:42Speaker 1: to the Greg Bell Show with cecificated rolls on here.
- 20:44Speaker 1: On ninety three point three, KJRFM.
- 20:47Speaker 4: Covered a lot of ground again today.
- 20:49Speaker 1: We gave you the news that Samantha Holloway, the principal
- 20:52Speaker 1: owner of the Kraken, the NHL team of course in
- 20:55Speaker 1: town and now lining up JP Morgan and Company in
- 20:58Speaker 1: another investment bank, Molas and Company to be their partners
- 21:04Speaker 1: invest partners in exploring a bid for the Sonics and
- 21:08Speaker 1: they return to Seattle. That news from Bloomberg News this morning.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Talked about the NHL draft lottery, the cracking seventh they
- 21:16Speaker 1: were eighth last year. Toronto Maple Leafs won the first pick.
- 21:19Speaker 1: The Canucks have the third pick behind San Jose.
- 21:21Speaker 4: At second, you know what time it is with the music.
- 21:24Speaker 1: It's time to be part of your have us be,
- 21:27Speaker 1: I'll get it right text line, You're part of the show.
- 21:29Speaker 1: At four nine, four five one.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Greg started the show talking about the NFL schedule release
- 21:34Speaker 3: and potentially for week one. Who the Seahawks could face
- 21:38Speaker 3: where they'd be the Chiefs, the Bears, the Cowboys. Personally
- 21:43Speaker 3: give me the Chiefs. But we took that to the
- 21:44Speaker 3: text line and we got a few responses from the
- 21:47Speaker 3: four two five. It's too risky to put the Chiefs
- 21:49Speaker 3: in versus the Seahawks. If the Seahawks dominate them, it
- 21:53Speaker 3: would be a stake in the heart of the Chiefs marketability.
- 21:59Speaker 4: I think that's that's probably fair.
- 22:02Speaker 3: They're gonna make excuses for it. Oh well, Mahomes is
- 22:05Speaker 3: coming off an injury, the defense isn't as good, Travis
- 22:08Speaker 3: Kelce is ninety years old.
- 22:10Speaker 4: We can go on and on and on.
- 22:11Speaker 3: But for the eyes On, I think that product would
- 22:15Speaker 3: be it'd be a really big game that will be
- 22:18Speaker 3: televised for Week one.
- 22:19Speaker 4: That's what I believe.
- 22:20Speaker 1: So, and there's sixty more games for the Chiefs to
- 22:23Speaker 1: determine their season.
- 22:24Speaker 3: Overreaction Monday, let's see, as I mentioned Greg, there's gonna
- 22:29Speaker 3: be someone that wants to beat down on the Lesson
- 22:31Speaker 3: team and from the four two five Cardinals, but only
- 22:33Speaker 3: if they have Aaron Rodgers love seeing him get smashed.
- 22:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I can't believe the Steelers are waiting on Aaron
- 22:41Speaker 1: Rodgers again.
- 22:42Speaker 4: Well, they have a lot of issues.
- 22:44Speaker 3: They don't have a head coach, right, Tomlin's gone.
- 22:47Speaker 1: They have McCarthy.
- 22:48Speaker 3: Oh yeah, McCarthy, my bad, no disrespect. He's a solid coach.
- 22:52Speaker 3: But anywhoo, yeah, all right, serious move, It's okay. They
- 22:58Speaker 3: got a lot going on. They're gonna have to wait
- 22:59Speaker 3: for and warge what else they gonna do.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Yeah, that's part of it. Will Howard from Ohio State
- 23:03Speaker 1: they drafted last year, didn't play a lot because of
- 23:05Speaker 1: an injury late in the preseason. They don't know what
- 23:08Speaker 1: they have in him yet. But yeah, growing up in Pittsburgh,
- 23:14Speaker 1: we are shaking our heads about Aaron Rodgers and now
- 23:16Speaker 1: we get the Prima Donna act again.
- 23:18Speaker 3: Yeah, another good opponent the Sayoffs could face from the
- 23:21Speaker 3: two five to three. I wouldn't mind the Denver Broncos
- 23:25Speaker 3: if indeed bo Knicks could be playing. I think they
- 23:29Speaker 3: have a fun matchup, another good defense, a quarterback that
- 23:32Speaker 3: is shocking everyone. I think unless you division champion, that's
- 23:37Speaker 3: true as well. So yeah, I'm fine with that. What
- 23:39Speaker 3: are your thoughts on it?
- 23:41Speaker 1: Yeah, Denver is not a bigger media market than Chicago
- 23:47Speaker 1: and not the draw that Kansas City or Dallas is
- 23:51Speaker 1: New England with Boston and the Super Bowl rematch, So
- 23:55Speaker 1: Denver would be down the list of who I think
- 23:57Speaker 1: the NFL would want to showcase on that. But yeah,
- 24:01Speaker 1: it's not the Cardinals. We're picking on the Cardinals.
- 24:04Speaker 4: Well, they're terrible and they're probably going to be terrible again.
- 24:07Speaker 3: From the three six, so hell yeah, bring on the
- 24:10Speaker 3: Kansas City Chiefs. All right, no disagreement there. Oh, this
- 24:14Speaker 3: is a funny one. From the two five to three.
- 24:16Speaker 3: Let's bring in the Giants with Gino and maybe Russell
- 24:19Speaker 3: Wilson or Las Vegas with Mendoza.
- 24:21Speaker 4: See, they just want to whoop on somebody's ass.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Week one, except the Giants don't have Gino Smith the
- 24:26Speaker 1: Jets do.
- 24:27Speaker 4: Okay, Well that's what they meant, bringing the Jets.
- 24:29Speaker 1: With the Jets are on the scheduled kids. Yeah, that's true.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Jackson dart Is John Harbo's quarterback and the Giants about
- 24:38Speaker 1: the college football schedule changes two five to three. I'm
- 24:42Speaker 1: over college football and I have been since NIL came around.
- 24:45Speaker 1: We don't need another professional league. No thank you for
- 24:47Speaker 1: two five says, Leave the Army Navy game where it
- 24:50Speaker 1: is by itself, so all of Americans can watch America's game.
- 24:53Speaker 1: I'm not going to read the last part of that.
- 24:55Speaker 1: He has it backwards. Go Army, be Navy. That's what
- 24:58Speaker 1: I say.
- 25:00Speaker 3: From a two five three, Greg, we were talking a
- 25:02Speaker 3: little bit of Mariners and Dan Wilson's.
- 25:07Speaker 4: Style of using analytics.
- 25:09Speaker 3: And my question is from the two five three, if
- 25:11Speaker 3: Dan Wilson is following the metrics as and the Mariner's
- 25:14Speaker 3: record is what it is, what does that say about
- 25:18Speaker 3: the validity of said analytics.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Yeah, well, some of the numbers like last night, don't
- 25:26Speaker 1: bring the believer in for a second inning, just the
- 25:30Speaker 1: night after you did do it, and the same guy
- 25:32Speaker 1: got Olsen out, and that's that you don't do it
- 25:35Speaker 1: and Olsen it's home Ralpha A. Munez. So yeah, there's
- 25:37Speaker 1: some inconsistencies, to say the least. Now it could be
- 25:40Speaker 1: there bending those rules a little bit because of Brash
- 25:43Speaker 1: and Spier being injured. Yeah, again its repeeding. Dan Wilson
- 25:50Speaker 1: is the manager of the Mariners because he committed to
- 25:52Speaker 1: doing these analytics. I wrote, like down to the letter,
- 25:57Speaker 1: if that's what Holland did di Poto want, they got
- 26:00Speaker 1: their guy to do it. They got their yes man.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Who's not gonna go against that. You bring in a
- 26:04Speaker 1: Joe Madden, to use a name that a lot of
- 26:06Speaker 1: people wanted to be the Mariner's manager when they hired
- 26:09Speaker 1: Dan Wilson. After service, you bring in Joe Madden. Madden
- 26:12Speaker 1: would say, here's where your innovators go. He leave the
- 26:15Speaker 1: phone off the hook and the dugout, and he managed
- 26:17Speaker 1: it this way. But the Mariners didn't want that, so
- 26:20Speaker 1: they didn't get that.
- 26:22Speaker 3: Speaking of wanting things from the four two five Mariners
- 26:26Speaker 3: talk is literally exhausting.
- 26:28Speaker 4: You don't have to do it, guys or sorry?
- 26:32Speaker 3: Does that help at all?
- 26:33Speaker 1: Maybe? No? Jim from the two five three, as soon
- 26:37Speaker 1: as I saw munhas coming in a non situation, I
- 26:40Speaker 1: went out non safe situation. I went out and picked
- 26:42Speaker 1: up dog poop.
- 26:44Speaker 3: Damn, tell me how you really feel. You'd rather go
- 26:46Speaker 3: pick up the poop than watch moon Neal struggle A
- 26:49Speaker 3: little bit? Fair enough? This is from our guy. Does
- 26:52Speaker 3: not the two five three? Greg, definitely do the high
- 26:55Speaker 3: school football segment start in late August, preseason. It'll be fantastic.
- 26:59Speaker 3: And yes, get Egan or Manly.
- 27:02Speaker 1: Yep, I think we're gonna do that. And John Manley
- 27:05Speaker 1: would be a big part of that. He's got all
- 27:07Speaker 1: the south side. I mean, like I mentioned, he's from
- 27:10Speaker 1: Heck down to shit hale Us all the way up
- 27:12Speaker 1: to Federal Away.
- 27:13Speaker 3: He covers, I'm kind of disappointed in this next one,
- 27:15Speaker 3: but I'm gonna read it anyway. From the four two five,
- 27:19Speaker 3: he starts off really well, please have a high school
- 27:22Speaker 3: football report or special every week.
- 27:24Speaker 4: It would be awesome. I played for Seattle Prep boo.
- 27:28Speaker 3: And it was fun and I'll always remember those days
- 27:31Speaker 3: and when we beat I don't know who that is
- 27:33Speaker 3: better not say, oh day.
- 27:36Speaker 4: I'm gonna just leave it at that.
- 27:37Speaker 3: But yes, he's he or she is also in on
- 27:39Speaker 3: having this weekly segment. Seattle Prep, get out of here,
- 27:43Speaker 3: man or lady, whatever you are, we're not. We're not
- 27:46Speaker 3: representing that, you know what, No prep talk when we
- 27:50Speaker 3: do this. There's not gonna be anything about a prep player.
- 27:53Speaker 3: I don't care if they were number one in track
- 27:55Speaker 3: and field. Really, I'm kidding the p I'm just being
- 27:58Speaker 3: a hater.
- 27:59Speaker 2: You know.
- 27:59Speaker 3: You just always have that one high school that you
- 28:02Speaker 3: just can't stand. It was Settle Prep and I had
- 28:04Speaker 3: a high I'm a high school football referee. Official in
- 28:06Speaker 3: the Northwest.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Association, saying that, yes, I did the most games I
- 28:13Speaker 1: did varsity games I did was Seattle Prep and including
- 28:16Speaker 1: against Oday at West Seattle High School. Fun. No Day
- 28:20Speaker 1: won that game.
- 28:20Speaker 4: Thanks, But yeah.
- 28:22Speaker 1: I like doing prep games. It's they're kind of fun.
- 28:26Speaker 4: Whatever.
- 28:27Speaker 3: I'm just hating because I went to Oday. You know,
- 28:28Speaker 3: I feel like I have an obligation and Oday wins
- 28:33Speaker 3: and goes to state championships. You're entitled to that if
- 28:36Speaker 3: you haven't gotten to West Seattle High School. That's probably
- 28:38Speaker 3: the most high school like setting for a stadium in
- 28:42Speaker 3: Seattle proper, in a wooden stadium and covered and PA
- 28:47Speaker 3: system and real grass.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Imagine that a real grass high school football field. Yeah,
- 28:54Speaker 1: they tailgate in the parking lot. Yes, Odey has home
- 28:57Speaker 1: games there, and as does Seattle Prep. Yeah, you're you're
- 29:01Speaker 1: nodding your head.
- 29:01Speaker 3: Remember once, at least once a year to go watch
- 29:04Speaker 3: a game. Yeah, it's freezing or it's raining.
- 29:06Speaker 4: It's lovely. It's great football out there.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Go Irish two O six the Poto Hondred Wilson. I'll
- 29:14Speaker 1: start to sound like Charlie Brown's teacher. Whah, that's thanks
- 29:19Speaker 1: for speaking the truth, Kyle, from Ken Moore got Kyle, Yes,
- 29:24Speaker 1: I'll read this because Greg won't.
- 29:26Speaker 3: From the four two five last one for me, This
- 29:27Speaker 3: will put a little chuckle go Navy, Greg beat Army
- 29:33Speaker 3: told you, but a small onnest face.
- 29:34Speaker 1: You're patronizing. You didn't have to do that. You did
- 29:39Speaker 1: not have to do that. Here's a good point, and
- 29:42Speaker 1: we brought up briefly. Four two five says l O
- 29:45Speaker 1: L That means laughed out right. Chris, You're on it
- 29:48Speaker 1: all right. I'm not that old. Everyone keeps saying the
- 29:51Speaker 1: Astros are awful, yet the Mariners only have two more
- 29:55Speaker 1: wins than they do. Hey, you know what, that's true.
- 29:59Speaker 1: We're not here to except they're not the Astros, right. No,
- 30:02Speaker 1: for the trash Cans, there will always be the trash
- 30:04Speaker 1: Cans cheaters. You know.
- 30:05Speaker 4: The Mariners don't cheat.
- 30:05Speaker 3: They should cheat at this point, have been in the
- 30:08Speaker 3: World Series yet and you had opportunities to cheat and
- 30:10Speaker 3: you dec had it not to. Just don't get caught,
- 30:13Speaker 3: you know, I mean teams have cheated and haven't got caught.
- 30:16Speaker 4: For yes, I do. There you go, four two five ps.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Everyone will watch the first game of the NFL season,
- 30:22Speaker 1: regardless of the matchup. That's true. They would watch any
- 30:25Speaker 1: matchup of any NFL teams. They just that's the way
- 30:28Speaker 1: the NFL is in this league, in this society. Okay,
- 30:32Speaker 1: regarding Army Navy, no one will watch on Thanksgiving. Well,
- 30:35Speaker 1: it's not gonna be on Thanksgiving Day because that's the NFL.
- 30:39Speaker 1: They were talking about Thanksgiving weekend. If they were up
- 30:42Speaker 1: against an NFL pim yage, they need their own weekend
- 30:44Speaker 1: in December for recruiting and national defense. I get that
- 30:48Speaker 1: the showcase. CBS pays a lot of money to broadcast
- 30:51Speaker 1: the Army Navy game as a standalone event every year,
- 30:55Speaker 1: and that's a huge draw for recruiting. Absolutely, thanks for
- 31:00Speaker 1: everyone in text line four nine, four to five when
- 31:02Speaker 1: we do that every day. At eleven thirty, Chris Crawford
- 31:05Speaker 1: is here. He's pinch iting again for Ian Forness. He
- 31:08Speaker 1: will join us next heading into his show twelve to
- 31:10Speaker 1: three on ninety three point three KJRFM. Welcome back Greg Mell,
- 31:21Speaker 1: Christopher kre with you, Chris playing the Friends music. That
- 31:24Speaker 1: means it's time for cross talk with the host of
- 31:27Speaker 1: the next show, which is not Ian Fornest. Today back
- 31:30Speaker 1: with us is Christopher Crawford, who tracked all the way
- 31:34Speaker 1: from Southwest Oregon where.
- 31:36Speaker 5: Everything it felt like it it felt like driving by JBLM.
- 31:41Speaker 5: You might as well be an eastern New Guinea at
- 31:43Speaker 5: that point. Man, it's just so bad, but I'm always
- 31:47Speaker 5: willing to do it because I'm thrilled to talk to
- 31:48Speaker 5: people like you.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Ah, you're okay, thank you. Well, we've talked about the Mariners.
- 31:53Speaker 1: I don't even know if it's worth talking about the
- 31:55Speaker 1: Mariners again. But so they have these on bullpen usage,
- 32:02Speaker 1: but they don't Monday night they let Forreer come in
- 32:06Speaker 1: after pitching one and to come back for another one
- 32:08Speaker 1: to face Olsen right the next night. They don't home
- 32:11Speaker 1: run off of munos ready versus lefty. It went against
- 32:15Speaker 1: one role but then broke another. Well righty lefty and
- 32:19Speaker 1: bringing a guy over more than one inning.
- 32:22Speaker 5: So my biggest thing there too is I think Adrix
- 32:26Speaker 5: Munyas is going to be fine. Like a lot of
- 32:29Speaker 5: the metrics suggests that he's pitching okay, there's been some
- 32:32Speaker 5: weak contact. The exception to that is lefties are hitting
- 32:36Speaker 5: the crap out of him, and why not have a
- 32:40Speaker 5: lefty face? What is one of the hottest hitters in
- 32:42Speaker 5: baseball and Matt Olsen and then going to Munhos, there's
- 32:45Speaker 5: there's just this weird belief about them. I can't remember
- 32:49Speaker 5: the last time I saw Munhos enter a game where
- 32:51Speaker 5: it wasn't just a clean inning.
- 32:53Speaker 1: It's sixty nine of seventy two appearances the last two
- 32:55Speaker 1: years has come in at the start of an inning.
- 32:58Speaker 5: Sixty nine seventy three out of twenty four times. Yes,
- 33:01Speaker 5: you are seeing Andre Smuonios come in. I think that's
- 33:04Speaker 5: a mistake. I mean, it just it just kind of
- 33:07Speaker 5: boggles my mind sometimes about this bullpen management. And you know,
- 33:11Speaker 5: I'll also say this, if you have a better offensive game,
- 33:14Speaker 5: this doesn't matter as much, right, Like, you score two runs,
- 33:18Speaker 5: you strike out sixteen times. It just has been such
- 33:22Speaker 5: a disappointing start to this season, and what a disappointing
- 33:26Speaker 5: home stand after such a good road trip.
- 33:28Speaker 1: Yeah, that's true for Air. By the way, if I
- 33:30Speaker 1: want to add on to this lifetime Olson, Matt Olson
- 33:34Speaker 1: was one for eight with three strikeouts against Forever.
- 33:36Speaker 2: Wow.
- 33:37Speaker 5: I mean that's a you can say all you want
- 33:39Speaker 5: about small sample, but you clearly not picking up the
- 33:42Speaker 5: baseball well against him, and especially the night before, the
- 33:45Speaker 5: night before, Yeah, he looked great against him. So I
- 33:48Speaker 5: just that really struggle. I really struggle with that. And
- 33:52Speaker 5: you know, you can talk all you want about how
- 33:54Speaker 5: they shouldn't have been in that position, but once they're
- 33:56Speaker 5: in those positions, it's another case where I do not
- 34:00Speaker 5: trust the manager of the Seattle Mariners to make the
- 34:02Speaker 5: right call.
- 34:03Speaker 1: How much of it is do you think that he
- 34:05Speaker 1: is just wedded to whatever Hollander and Topoto and the
- 34:08Speaker 1: iPads tell him to do?
- 34:10Speaker 5: Some there's some of that, for sure. There is some
- 34:13Speaker 5: of that. You sure get a longer leash if you're
- 34:16Speaker 5: doing what the front office tells you to. It's just like,
- 34:19Speaker 5: this is a widespread thing around baseball. This isn't me
- 34:21Speaker 5: just saying things for the sake of saying things, which
- 34:24Speaker 5: I love to do, by the way, I love the
- 34:25Speaker 5: sound of my own voice. But there is a widespread
- 34:29Speaker 5: belief too that one of the reasons Jerry Depoto has
- 34:31Speaker 5: had such a long leaf leash is because he's willing
- 34:33Speaker 5: to do what John Stanton tells him to do. And
- 34:36Speaker 5: Dan Wilson is willing to do the things that Justin
- 34:38Speaker 5: Hollander and Jerry Depoto tell him to do, and then
- 34:41Speaker 5: so on and so forth, and that creates a chain
- 34:44Speaker 5: and sometimes it works great and sometimes it works not
- 34:46Speaker 5: so well, and last night was an example of it
- 34:48Speaker 5: not working so well.
- 34:50Speaker 1: Our buddy Keith two five three on the tech sign.
- 34:53Speaker 1: Please explain to mister Crawford how much better corn tortillas
- 34:56Speaker 1: are than flower.
- 34:58Speaker 4: Say, state my own. I get it.
- 35:01Speaker 5: I like the crunch of a corn tortilla too, But
- 35:05Speaker 5: if you're not cooking that thing in oil, and you're
- 35:07Speaker 5: just giving me one of those hard shell corn tortillas hard.
- 35:11Speaker 4: No, but you could also have corn tortillas that are.
- 35:13Speaker 5: Saw Absolutely, That's what I'm talking about. If you're doing
- 35:15Speaker 5: it that way, if you are taking the time to
- 35:17Speaker 5: cook those, my.
- 35:18Speaker 1: Thing is not even cook them, just just warm them.
- 35:21Speaker 1: I'm talking about the smaller corn tortillas. Sure that that
- 35:24Speaker 1: are smaller taco, but I'm like, I need a big
- 35:27Speaker 1: taco crea like flower totilla. Yes, they tend to corn,
- 35:30Speaker 1: tend to be smaller. Yes, tend to be they are
- 35:33Speaker 1: more of a real taco than a flower taco.
- 35:36Speaker 5: But I like the ease, and I prefer the taste
- 35:40Speaker 5: of a flour tortilla taco. If I don't have to
- 35:43Speaker 5: do any work to that corn tortilla. Keith, I love you,
- 35:46Speaker 5: but don't only you're only supposed to be listening to
- 35:49Speaker 5: from from twelve to three. Come on, man, By.
- 35:52Speaker 1: The way, Chris, we seem to have awakened most of
- 35:54Speaker 1: the Seattle Prep booster club. Yeah, I mean, oh boy,
- 36:00Speaker 1: all over the text line nowice.
- 36:02Speaker 4: Where on my Irish said I only see one. Come on,
- 36:06Speaker 4: if you missed that talk. We are Chris and I
- 36:08Speaker 4: are going to have a show Fridays.
- 36:11Speaker 1: We're pretty much committing to a show on high school
- 36:13Speaker 1: sports that's high school football, not a show making sure
- 36:17Speaker 1: part of a show.
- 36:17Speaker 4: Will do a weekly.
- 36:18Speaker 1: Segment on Friday and maybe have a game of the
- 36:20Speaker 1: week with the coaches.
- 36:21Speaker 4: And yeah, the very first you owe me one.
- 36:24Speaker 5: Yeah, the very first time I ever appeared on KJR
- 36:29Speaker 5: was what I was doing stringing for the News Tribune
- 36:32Speaker 5: and I was doing the very first game at the
- 36:34Speaker 5: new Bellerman Stadium.
- 36:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:36Speaker 5: So I mean I have a I have a very
- 36:38Speaker 5: and you know, doing all the baseball stuff that I
- 36:40Speaker 5: have done, I have a very prep sports.
- 36:43Speaker 2: Mean a lot.
- 36:44Speaker 1: Okay, we'll get John Manley involved, We'll get Chris involved,
- 36:48Speaker 1: We'll open up the phone lines.
- 36:50Speaker 2: Love it.
- 36:50Speaker 1: We're going to do that, man, I love it. I'm
- 36:52Speaker 1: not immune to the phone lines. I don't know why
- 36:54Speaker 1: everyone at the station's afraid of that.
- 36:56Speaker 5: What do you got going on today? We've got a
- 36:58Speaker 5: bunch of stuff work. Of course, going to talk talk
- 37:00Speaker 5: about the Mariners. We're gonna talk about them for a
- 37:02Speaker 5: little bit. We're gonna talk about the Kraken. Yesterday was
- 37:05Speaker 5: a bad day for the show, cracking and talking about
- 37:08Speaker 5: the fact that they just do not have that star
- 37:10Speaker 5: power and a chance to get that star power. One
- 37:14Speaker 5: loss away from having better odds than Toronto and I
- 37:18Speaker 5: abhore tanking. But we'll talk about what could have happened
- 37:20Speaker 5: if you did, and we'll of course talk about some
- 37:23Speaker 5: Seahawks as well. It should be a lot of fun.
- 37:24Speaker 1: Trade for Austin Matthews, we could.
- 37:26Speaker 4: Do that, eh yeah, Oh my gosh.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:28Speaker 5: Well, anders he doesn't know it yet, but that's one
- 37:30Speaker 5: of the things we're gonna be talking about, is what
- 37:32Speaker 5: we would trade the number six pick for.
- 37:35Speaker 1: Andrews has got stripes, Argentinian stripes. On today. He looks beautiful.
- 37:39Speaker 5: He always looks beautiful, but he looks very festive today.
- 37:42Speaker 4: Yes, my wife fessed me up.
- 37:46Speaker 1: I was gonna say that's a spousal movie. Argentinian wife
- 37:50Speaker 1: Anderson Hurst is with Chris Crawford and Jessmen McIntyre from
- 37:53Speaker 1: twelve until three. Greig Bell, The News Tribune and Christopher
- 37:55Speaker 1: Kidd appreciate it. I might head to the yard. Here's
- 37:57Speaker 1: what's Brian Woo's latest start. You Gotta Chris is up
- 38:00Speaker 1: next to ninety three point three k JRFM.
