- Lucas: Luna, welcome back to another episode of Learn Malay with Fexingo. Luna: Hey Lucas! I'm excited. What are we learning today? Lucas: Today we're going to the clinic — but not for a checkup. We're learning how to buy medicine in Malay. Luna: Oh that's perfect. I actually had a cold last week and I didn't know how to ask for anything. Lucas: Well, by the end of this episode, you'll be able to say 'Saya nak ubat' — that's 'I want medicine.' Let's start there. Luna: Saya nak ubat. Saya nak ubat. Lucas: Exactly. Saya nak ubat. Try it a bit slower: Saya nak ubat. Luna: Saya nak ubat. Lucas: Great! Now let's imagine you have a fever. You can say 'Saya demam' — 'I have a fever.' Luna: Saya demam. Saya demam. Lucas: Perfect. So if you go to the pharmacy, you can say 'Saya demam, saya nak ubat.' Fever, medicine. Luna: Saya demam, saya nak ubat. That's two phrases in one sentence! Lucas: You got it. Now what if you have a cough? You can ask 'Ada ubat batuk?' — 'Is there cough medicine?' Luna: Ada ubat batuk? Ada ubat batuk? Ubat batuk... that's cough medicine? Lucas: Yes, ubat batuk. Batuk is cough, ubat is medicine. So ubat batuk is cough medicine. Say the whole question again. Luna: Ada ubat batuk? Lucas: Beautiful. Now the last thing you'll need is asking the price. 'Berapa harga?' — 'How much is it?' Luna: Berapa harga? Berapa harga? Lucas: Yes. So you can say 'Ada ubat batuk? Berapa harga?' Do you have cough medicine? How much? Luna: Ada ubat batuk? Berapa harga? So useful. And then after they tell you, you say thank you, right? Lucas: Exactly! 'Terima kasih.' We've used that before, but it never hurts to repeat. Terima kasih. Luna: Terima kasih. That's one I remember. Lucas: Let's do a quick practice. You're at the clinic counter. What do you say? Luna: Saya demam. Ada ubat? Berapa harga? Lucas: Almost perfect — remember to say 'ubat' specifically. 'Ada ubat?' is fine, but if you want cough medicine, say 'Ada ubat batuk?' Luna: Oh right. Ada ubat batuk? Berapa harga? Lucas: There you go. Now let's put it all together in a little scene. Imagine you walk in, you say 'Saya demam.' Then 'Ada ubat batuk?' Then 'Berapa harga?' Then 'Terima kasih.' Luna: Okay, let me try. Saya demam. Ada ubat batuk? Berapa harga? Terima kasih. Lucas: You did it! That's a whole clinic visit in Malay. Luna: That was fun. I feel ready for my next cold. Lucas: You know, speaking of feeling ready — if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Malay, a handful of listeners chip in monthly through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo, and that's literally what funds making this many episodes. Luna: Yeah, it's true. No ads, just listeners who find it useful. We really appreciate that. Lucas: Anyway, back to medicine. Let's review all five phrases one more time. Luna: Let me go first. Saya nak ubat. Lucas: Saya nak ubat. Good. Luna: Saya demam. Lucas: Saya demam. Luna: Ada ubat batuk? Lucas: Ada ubat batuk? Luna: Berapa harga? Lucas: Berapa harga? Luna: Terima kasih. Lucas: Terima kasih. Perfect. Now you can handle a clinic visit confidently. Luna: I'll practice these on my own. Saya nak ubat, saya demam, ada ubat batuk, berapa harga, terima kasih. Lucas: Great practice. That's all for today. Keep those phrases handy, and we'll see you next time on Learn Malay with Fexingo. Luna: Bye bye! Terima kasih!
