Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: This mediate podcast. Welcome to Meet Eater Trivia, the only
- 0:12Speaker 1: game show where conservation always wins. I'm your host Spence
- 0:15Speaker 1: in New York, and today we're joined by special guests
- 0:17Speaker 1: Adam Weatherby and Luke Thorkeldsen, both from weatherb Inc. In
- 0:22Speaker 1: addition to those two, we also have Cal Brodie, Sean, Corey,
- 0:25Speaker 1: Krinn Rick and Byron. You'll notice one name I didn't
- 0:28Speaker 1: mention there. That's Stephen Ronella. This is a steveless episode,
- 0:32Speaker 1: So Byron, this is your first time on the show.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Tell folks what you do here at Meat Eater. I'm
- 0:37Speaker 1: the chief product officer. What does that mean? Responsible for
- 0:40Speaker 1: all of our digital platforms? Basically everything technology related? And
- 0:45Speaker 1: are you nervous a little bit? Yeah? Now, Adam, I
- 0:48Speaker 1: don't know what that means. Yeah, Google, Google Hacker. That's
- 0:53Speaker 1: a perfect way. Now, Adam and Luke, how do you
- 0:56Speaker 1: guys feel about Trivia? I'll let you know in like
- 0:59Speaker 1: an hour. Yeah, Luke, I was a big Jeopardy fan
- 1:03Speaker 1: growing up. Yeah, not anymore though. Do they still have it?
- 1:07Speaker 1: I'm not sure I could. It was my Ambi Alec
- 1:13Speaker 1: for a while. That actress from Big Bang Theory Ken
- 1:15Speaker 1: Jenny was. Ever since Rerbeca left, they've had a bunch
- 1:17Speaker 1: of guest house I'm not sure who the permanent one
- 1:19Speaker 1: is now, Trebec left, Trabec passed away. If it's a
- 1:22Speaker 1: guns and Ammo, I think will be comfortable. Anything outside
- 1:25Speaker 1: of that we don't know. Okay, well, if you're not familiar.
- 1:27Speaker 1: This is normally a ten round quiz show with questions
- 1:30Speaker 1: from meat eaters for verticals which you're hunting, fishing, conservation,
- 1:33Speaker 1: and cooking, and there is a prize. Meat eater will
- 1:35Speaker 1: donate five dollars to the conservation organization of the winner's choosing.
- 1:40Speaker 1: But there's a twist for today's show. I've been wanting
- 1:43Speaker 1: to do this for a long time and I figured
- 1:45Speaker 1: that in light of today's guests from weather B, this
- 1:47Speaker 1: would be the episode to do it. So here's what
- 1:49Speaker 1: it is. Today's game of trivia is all about firearms.
- 1:53Speaker 1: That means that all ten questions will have some sort
- 1:56Speaker 1: of tie to rifles, shotguns, handguns, Ammo and more so
- 2:00Speaker 1: Adam and Luke. I'll ask you again, how do you
- 2:02Speaker 1: guys feel about trivia? Better? A lot better now? Now
- 2:09Speaker 1: I told you we're gonna reveal a new stat on
- 2:11Speaker 1: each episode of Trivia and in in the stat of the Week,
- 2:13Speaker 1: this week is a look at our donation. So far,
- 2:16Speaker 1: Meat eat Trivia has donated just over ten thousand dollars
- 2:19Speaker 1: to various conservation organizations. This money has been spread across
- 2:23Speaker 1: fifteen different groups, including Meat Eaters, Land Access Initiative, the
- 2:27Speaker 1: Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership, National Wild Turkey Federation, the Western
- 2:32Speaker 1: Bear Foundation, back Country Hunters and Anglers, the Rough Grouse Society,
- 2:36Speaker 1: National Deer Association, howl dot Org, and more. This will
- 2:40Speaker 1: be even funner to look at a year from now
- 2:42Speaker 1: because this is really the only game show where conservation
- 2:46Speaker 1: always wins. As funner a word spencer more fun. It
- 2:49Speaker 1: will be more fun. And I'm also gonna get funner
- 2:53Speaker 1: in the dictionary. You know, the word doc didn't correct me.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Word doc didn't correct me when I put funner in here. Hey,
- 3:00Speaker 1: I'm not saying it isn't. I'm just asking if it is.
- 3:02Speaker 1: It's fine. This is more Jeopardy than Wheel of Fortune.
- 3:05Speaker 1: We don't have to worry about language. We have some housekeeping.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Way back when we recorded the live show in Billings, Montana,
- 3:11Speaker 1: I asked the players to place, in order from biggest
- 3:13Speaker 1: is smallest the populations of elk, mule deer, white tails,
- 3:17Speaker 1: and turkey and Montana. The correct answer was mule deer
- 3:19Speaker 1: and first white tail, and second elk, and third in
- 3:22Speaker 1: turkey and fourth, But I forgot to give the fact
- 3:25Speaker 1: to it afterwards, and a handful of people reached out
- 3:27Speaker 1: to ask what their populations actually are. So here it is.
- 3:30Speaker 1: As of one, in Montana, there are two hundred ninety
- 3:35Speaker 1: three thousand mule's, two twelve thousand white tails, one hundred
- 3:38Speaker 1: and thirty six thousand elk, and one hundred and twenty
- 3:41Speaker 1: thousand turkeys. Now, cal as our Montanan. Does that sound
- 3:45Speaker 1: right to you? Sounds right? Thank you. That's why we
- 3:51Speaker 1: got you here. And with that we're on the Meat
- 3:53Speaker 1: Eat Trivia. Play the drop Phil, Look, I need to
- 3:58Speaker 1: know what I stand away everything? How's that? Had? Just
- 4:03Speaker 1: tend everything? Davon Suckers Question one and a reminder, all
- 4:16Speaker 1: of these are going to be tied to guns. The
- 4:18Speaker 1: topic is rifles and this will be multiple choice. Finish
- 4:23Speaker 1: this famous quote from outdoor writer Townsend Whalen. Only blank
- 4:28Speaker 1: rifles are interesting? Is it dirty, fast, accurate or American? Again?
- 4:36Speaker 1: Finish this quote from outdoor writer Townsend whaland only blank
- 4:40Speaker 1: rifles are interesting? Is it dirty, fast, accurate? Or American?
- 4:47Speaker 1: Did anybody know this off the toppler head? Or is
- 4:49Speaker 1: everybody has taken a guess? Yes? Thank I know it.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Brody thinks he knows the answer again, dirty fast, accurate
- 5:00Speaker 1: or American? Does everybody have an answer? Go ahead and
- 5:03Speaker 1: reveal your answers. We have cal saying American, Luke saying fast,
- 5:07Speaker 1: Byron saying American, Brody saying accurate, Krian saying accurate, Corey
- 5:11Speaker 1: saying fast, Shawn saying dirty, Rick saying accurate, and American,
- 5:16Speaker 1: Adam saying American. The correct answer is accurate, Brod, he
- 5:22Speaker 1: did know it. Here's the folk quote from Wayland's nineteen
- 5:27Speaker 1: fifty seven article in the American Rifleman magazine. If a
- 5:30Speaker 1: rifle and its cartridge are highly accurate, the shooter will
- 5:34Speaker 1: take greater pride in the arm. He will shoot it more,
- 5:36Speaker 1: his marksmanship will improve, he will get more game, he
- 5:39Speaker 1: will win more matches. On the other hand, if the
- 5:42Speaker 1: rifle is not accurate, the shooter gets nowhere with it.
- 5:45Speaker 1: He does not develop into a good shot, he loses interest,
- 5:48Speaker 1: and he soon disposes of it. Only accurate rifles are interesting?
- 5:54Speaker 1: Do you boys go by that saying that weather b No,
- 5:58Speaker 1: we just we try to make mall. They're all dirty.
- 6:06Speaker 1: So if there was an e all the above, we
- 6:07Speaker 1: had a one question to the topic is gear. What
- 6:12Speaker 1: department store sold ted Williams Edition firearms which were named
- 6:16Speaker 1: after the legendary baseball player and avid outdoorsman. What department
- 6:23Speaker 1: store sold ted Williams addition firearms which were named after
- 6:28Speaker 1: the legendary baseball player and avid outdoorsman. Looking forward department
- 6:35Speaker 1: store that sold ted Williams addition firearms? Bro do you're
- 6:40Speaker 1: probably the oldest feller in this room? Do you know this?
- 6:42Speaker 1: One dig? We'll see does everybody have an answer? Go
- 6:53Speaker 1: ahead and reveal your answers. We have Cal saying Montgomery, Reward,
- 6:57Speaker 1: Luke saying Amber, Crownbie, and Fitch Buyer saying wool worse,
- 7:01Speaker 1: Brody saying sears, Crant saying wool worse, Corey saying Kmart,
- 7:06Speaker 1: Shawn saying sears, Rick saying sears, and Adam saying sears.
- 7:12Speaker 1: The correct answer is sears. The room did pretty well.
- 7:18Speaker 1: When department stores ruled the world, it was commonplace for
- 7:21Speaker 1: them to sell guns. Besides Sears. You could also purchase
- 7:24Speaker 1: firearms at J. C. Penny, Kmart, True Value, Montgomer, Reward,
- 7:28Speaker 1: Westernado and more. Many of these forgotten firearms are now
- 7:32Speaker 1: considered collectors items. If you want more on the history
- 7:35Speaker 1: of these guns, read David mccar's article on the media
- 7:37Speaker 1: dot com called an owed to department store Guns. Where
- 7:42Speaker 1: weather Be has ever sold at a department store? Probably? Yeah.
- 7:45Speaker 1: I think what was common for these was that like
- 7:48Speaker 1: Kmart or Sears or J. C. Penney would sell a
- 7:50Speaker 1: gun that was made by someone like Remington or Winchester
- 7:54Speaker 1: or weather Be, but they would put a different name
- 7:56Speaker 1: off and for a while the Ted Williams firearms, I
- 8:00Speaker 1: think we're J. C. Higgins And then it became Ted Williams.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Do you guys own any of those? Anybody? He used
- 8:06Speaker 1: to own a Jay C. Higgins in what sixteen gage?
- 8:10Speaker 1: You know his family firearm better got sold. There's a
- 8:13Speaker 1: lot of old timers so that talk about getting guns
- 8:15Speaker 1: at searies and department stores like and they looked at
- 8:18Speaker 1: in the catalog and drooled over it for years. Right.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Question three the topic is conservation. This is our listener
- 8:25Speaker 1: question in the week, which was won by Drey Warden
- 8:28Speaker 1: for sending this great question. Dre is going to get
- 8:30Speaker 1: a hat signed by everyone in the room. If you
- 8:32Speaker 1: want a chance to win our listener question in the week,
- 8:34Speaker 1: send your question to trivia at the meat eater dot com.
- 8:39Speaker 1: What cartridge has killed the most Boon and Crockett animals? Again,
- 8:45Speaker 1: what cartridge has killed the most Boon and Crockett animals?
- 8:51Speaker 1: Boone and Crockett has some great record keeping. You can
- 8:53Speaker 1: go in there and find basically every cartridge used for
- 8:57Speaker 1: the last one hundred years on the critters that are
- 9:00Speaker 1: in their books down to its down to two for me.
- 9:05Speaker 1: So yeah, if you're the type that has that amount
- 9:07Speaker 1: of time on your hands, go go down the Boone
- 9:12Speaker 1: Crockett record books online. That's right. Does everybody have an answer?
- 9:18Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Cal saying
- 9:20Speaker 1: thirty ot six, Luke saying thirty ots six, Byron saying
- 9:23Speaker 1: thirty ots six, Brody saying thirty ot six, saying the
- 9:26Speaker 1: three O eight, Corey saying the seven mm, Seawan saying
- 9:29Speaker 1: thirty ots six, Rick sank thirty ot six, and Adam
- 9:31Speaker 1: saying thirty ots six. Popular answer in the room, and
- 9:34Speaker 1: that is correct. It is the thirty odds six Springfield
- 9:38Speaker 1: Did you get it? Byron is responsible for killing over
- 9:44Speaker 1: animals in the Boone and Crockett record books. That's followed
- 9:46Speaker 1: closely by the seven mm rim Meg and the two
- 9:49Speaker 1: seventy Winchester, which have both killed just over one thousand
- 9:53Speaker 1: Boone and Crockett animals. Was that your other one? Guns
- 9:59Speaker 1: don't kill things? Suspensor people killed thanks? It was you
- 10:03Speaker 1: know the old outdoor writer that loved the two seventy win. Yeah,
- 10:07Speaker 1: I was wondering if that was Jack O'Connor. Yeah, I don't.
- 10:10Speaker 1: I think was. He didn't like Townsend Wale, and I
- 10:13Speaker 1: think those two did not appreciate that. I thought O'Connor's
- 10:18Speaker 1: deal was like he like basically was the popularity of
- 10:24Speaker 1: the two seventy. He would often write stories and I'd
- 10:29Speaker 1: be like, you know, four guessing four fifty, and then
- 10:32Speaker 1: he like hits the sheep in the ass and then
- 10:35Speaker 1: he got to track it down and kill it. And
- 10:38Speaker 1: my grandpa often got in fights with him too, because yeah,
- 10:42Speaker 1: to seventy win was pretty slow for our family, so yeah,
- 10:45Speaker 1: they got in he did, uh, he did debates, but
- 10:48Speaker 1: he actually won the weather b Award, the second year
- 10:50Speaker 1: in nine fifty seven O'Connor did so still give away
- 10:53Speaker 1: the weather b Award. Yeah, weather be Foundation International runs
- 10:56Speaker 1: it does some conservations, some different things. So it's totally
- 10:58Speaker 1: separate than us. Uh and it's yeah, it's still around.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Started by my grandpa. There's a stat for you. That
- 11:07Speaker 1: question for the topic is history. What was the last
- 11:11Speaker 1: name of the two St. Louis brothers who developed a
- 11:14Speaker 1: style of percussion camp rifle that became known as the
- 11:18Speaker 1: planes Rifle? Again, what was the last name of the
- 11:23Speaker 1: two St. Louis brothers who developed a style of percussion
- 11:27Speaker 1: camp rifle that later became known as the planes rifle?
- 11:33Speaker 1: Looking for their last? Lot of names out there? Thanks
- 11:36Speaker 1: for multiple choice on this one, Spence, good luck. What
- 11:39Speaker 1: was the last name the two St. Louis brothers who
- 11:42Speaker 1: developed a style of percussion camp rifle that later became
- 11:46Speaker 1: known as the Planes rifle. Anybody's been to St. Louis
- 11:52Speaker 1: Patties Barbecue. Give those guys a shout out there there,
- 11:55Speaker 1: hunters and anglers. Damn good barbecue. It's a good use
- 11:59Speaker 1: of your platform. Maybe it was Rick. You had a
- 12:02Speaker 1: quick answer. Do you know this one? I feel pretty confident. Yeah,
- 12:07Speaker 1: pretty confident, but I I have a fear that the
- 12:10Speaker 1: way you said the question, I may have looking for
- 12:12Speaker 1: the last name of the brothers who developed the Planes rifle.
- 12:17Speaker 1: My only memory of being in St. Louis was going
- 12:19Speaker 1: to plan at Hollywood. Not a lot of hunters and
- 12:21Speaker 1: anglers there. Unfortunate is that the only place you can
- 12:23Speaker 1: find a plane at Hollywood? I think these days. Yeah, Brodie,
- 12:31Speaker 1: how are you doing down there? I know I'm not right,
- 12:34Speaker 1: but that's all I got. Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 12:37Speaker 1: We have cal saying Henry, Luke saying Dakota. Byron sang Winchester, Winchester.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Brodie sang Brownie Krin without an answer, Corey saying Henry,
- 12:48Speaker 1: shown saying Thompson, Rick saying Hawkins, Adam saying Callahan. The
- 12:55Speaker 1: correct answer was Hawking Rick got it right, Well done,
- 13:01Speaker 1: Well done. The National Firearms Museum called the Hawkins rifle
- 13:05Speaker 1: the mountain Man's inseparable companion because he was used by
- 13:09Speaker 1: so many fur trappers. It featured a heavier, shorter barrel
- 13:12Speaker 1: than the Pennsylvania long rifle and a larger fifty four
- 13:16Speaker 1: or fifty six caliber boar. You said planes rifle in
- 13:22Speaker 1: your question. Right, it was known as the plans is
- 13:25Speaker 1: the mountain Man's best friend? Like, yeah, but it's known
- 13:30Speaker 1: as the planes rifle anybody, don't anybody, Cal your talks
- 13:35Speaker 1: mountain man, Like if you would have said mountain man,
- 13:38Speaker 1: but everybody would have written hot. But the key is
- 13:40Speaker 1: he said a percussion firearm, so meaning it's using a
- 13:44Speaker 1: percussion cap. There you go. This is based off of
- 13:49Speaker 1: Hollywood media. Cal, you're being an average American that all
- 13:52Speaker 1: you know about histories from the movies? Thank you, Rick,
- 13:55Speaker 1: and ironic question. Yeah, yeah, welcome. The topic is media.
- 14:03Speaker 1: This award winning magazine, which was created in two thousand seven,
- 14:07Speaker 1: covers topics like shooting, sports, art, music, conservation, gardening, cooking,
- 14:12Speaker 1: and Southern tradition. What is it? This award winning magazine,
- 14:19Speaker 1: which was created in two thousand seven, covers topic like shooting, sports, art, music, conservation, gardening, cooking,
- 14:27Speaker 1: and Southern tradition. What is it? Very confused as to
- 14:33Speaker 1: why this is part of trivia, But I thought this
- 14:36Speaker 1: was about guns. Today we got plenty of guns questions
- 14:42Speaker 1: taking you don't know this one? Cal, I know this one?
- 14:44Speaker 1: You do? Yeah? And again? Are they like a new
- 14:47Speaker 1: sponsor of your triviation. The magazine covers shooting, sports as
- 14:52Speaker 1: well as other things like art, music, conservation, gardening, cooking.
- 14:55Speaker 1: This is a good point to add a reminder that
- 14:58Speaker 1: if you have a trivia question that you'd like to send,
- 15:02Speaker 1: send one that's better than this. This is your bottom
- 15:08Speaker 1: bottom base. What is southern tradition? Cal, I'm not gonna
- 15:14Speaker 1: answer that question again, looking for what the magazine is.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer this? This is my question.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 15:31Speaker 1: We have Cal saying garden and gun, Luke without an answer,
- 15:33Speaker 1: Byron with saying the Bear Hunting Magazine. I like that,
- 15:37Speaker 1: Brodie saying garden and gun, Krin saying Southern Living, Corey
- 15:40Speaker 1: saying sportsman's a field shown without an answer, Rick saying
- 15:43Speaker 1: Country Living, and Adam saying Spencer Daily News. The correct
- 15:48Speaker 1: answer is garden and gun. It literally has gun in
- 15:52Speaker 1: the title. What do you think it's wrong with that?
- 15:56Speaker 1: Right now? If you didn't get that right, it's probably
- 16:00Speaker 1: because of where you live. That's because fifty six percent
- 16:02Speaker 1: of the magazine subscribers live in the Southeast, which is
- 16:05Speaker 1: mostly where the magazine focuses its attention you still you
- 16:10Speaker 1: still don't like that question, Brodie, No, not really. The
- 16:14Speaker 1: magazine literally has gun in the title. Yeah maybe here
- 16:18Speaker 1: you guys read that, but down in Wyoming, we don't
- 16:20Speaker 1: really read that. You guys are further south than us.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Even Phil, We're halfway through the game at Trivia, give
- 16:26Speaker 1: us a scoreboard update. We are the only person yet
- 16:30Speaker 1: to be UH represented on the board is Corey Colkins
- 16:33Speaker 1: with zero points. Tied for third place with one point
- 16:36Speaker 1: a piece, we have Byron, Karen and Luke. Tied for
- 16:39Speaker 1: second place with two points a piece, we have Adam
- 16:41Speaker 1: weatherby Cow and Sean and tied for first place with
- 16:45Speaker 1: four points are Brody Henderson and Rick Hutton four points.
- 16:52Speaker 1: That's why we got it here. M Question six. The
- 17:04Speaker 1: topic is calibers. This word describes a person who makes
- 17:08Speaker 1: custom cartridges that haven't been adopted by major manufacturers. It
- 17:13Speaker 1: also happens to be what you call a prospector who
- 17:15Speaker 1: looks for oil in a new place. Again, this word
- 17:20Speaker 1: describes a person who makes custom cartridges that haven't been
- 17:24Speaker 1: adopted by major manufacturers. It also happens to be what
- 17:28Speaker 1: you call a prospector who looks for oil in a
- 17:31Speaker 1: new place, some quick answers in the room, some no
- 17:36Speaker 1: answers in the room. So far I can see some
- 17:38Speaker 1: problems with this one. Well, our our main debater is
- 17:48Speaker 1: I don't see a problem with it. There you get
- 17:50Speaker 1: at all. I'll explain later. Does everybody have an answer?
- 17:54Speaker 1: Just gonna come up with one. Go ahead and reveal
- 17:58Speaker 1: your answers. We have Cal saying why wildcatter, look saying wildcatter,
- 18:01Speaker 1: Byron saying wildcatter, Brody saying wildcatter, Krin saying surveyor Corey
- 18:05Speaker 1: without an answer, Sean saying wildcatter, Rick saying wildcatter, and
- 18:10Speaker 1: Adam say wildcatter upside down. The answer is wildcat. If
- 18:16Speaker 1: Rick wasn't such a nice guy, I would point out
- 18:18Speaker 1: that he actually has two answers on his board if
- 18:21Speaker 1: one of them is not correct. If somebody would have
- 18:23Speaker 1: said wildcat, I would get that's not a person wildcat.
- 18:27Speaker 1: See what I wrote? I wrote, Yes, we're gonna give
- 18:33Speaker 1: it to Rick. Maybe we could talk him half A
- 18:34Speaker 1: point Really comes down to what Spencer except. One of
- 18:40Speaker 1: history's most successful wildcatter was Roy Weatherby. Weatherby's first wildcat
- 18:46Speaker 1: round was the weather Be Rocket in nineteen forty three,
- 18:48Speaker 1: followed by arguably his most famous wildcat round, the two
- 18:52Speaker 1: fifty seven weather be magnum. If you want more on
- 18:54Speaker 1: how wildcatters changed hunting than read Jordan Siller's article in
- 18:57Speaker 1: the Mediator dot com called the History of Wildcatting in America.
- 19:03Speaker 1: You like that question, Adam, that was very easy. I'm
- 19:06Speaker 1: here today because of that word. Right. What what other
- 19:10Speaker 1: wildcat rounds do you guys sell? Well, they're not, you
- 19:17Speaker 1: know what I mean? So, like even all our cartridges,
- 19:19Speaker 1: we goof around with it and experiment, and then once
- 19:22Speaker 1: we put in production, it's not really a wildcat anymore.
- 19:24Speaker 1: When's the last time you guys kicked out a wildcat round?
- 19:27Speaker 1: Well at six five hour PM? And then now the
- 19:30Speaker 1: new one might talk about the end of the show.
- 19:32Speaker 1: I like it. Yeah, it's actually a true wildcat because
- 19:34Speaker 1: we haven't launched it yet. We got a wildcat in
- 19:37Speaker 1: the room, Spencer, what do you call it? Efforts in production?
- 19:41Speaker 1: Like a tame cat? Fluffy? Question seven? The topic is handguns.
- 19:51Speaker 1: If you're adjusting dovetailed iron sights on a handgun, and
- 19:55Speaker 1: you move the front sight to the right, in which
- 19:58Speaker 1: direction will be point of impact? Shift Again, if you're
- 20:04Speaker 1: adjusting dovetailed iron sights on a handgun, and you move
- 20:08Speaker 1: the front sight to the right, in which direction will
- 20:12Speaker 1: the point of impact shift? You're moving the front sight
- 20:17Speaker 1: to the right in which direction will the point of
- 20:20Speaker 1: impact shift? Very quick answer from Rick, who was sitting
- 20:25Speaker 1: in the first place right now along with Brody. Got
- 20:31Speaker 1: a fifty fifty chance here could be a trick southwest, Brody,
- 20:37Speaker 1: you just gave everyone a huge hand. You've seen how
- 20:41Speaker 1: many blank boards we've had. Maybe Brody doesn't know what
- 20:50Speaker 1: he's talking about. Maybe not. I'm not a handgun expert,
- 20:55Speaker 1: that's for sure. Does everybody have an answer? Go ahead
- 20:59Speaker 1: and reveal your answers. We have Kyl saying left, Luke
- 21:02Speaker 1: saying left, Byron saying left, Brodie saying left, Corin saying down,
- 21:09Speaker 1: Corey saying left, Shan saying right, Lick, Rick saying left,
- 21:12Speaker 1: and Atom saying right. The correct answer is left. What
- 21:18Speaker 1: do you have? Oh yeah, I'm putting pressure on you itself.
- 21:24Speaker 1: The front sight moves in the opposite direction of the
- 21:28Speaker 1: point of impact, while the rear sight moves in the
- 21:30Speaker 1: same direction. So if your gun is shooting to the
- 21:33Speaker 1: right of target, then you want to move your front
- 21:36Speaker 1: sight to the right or your rear sight to the left. Yeah.
- 21:39Speaker 1: I was gonna say, do people really move their front
- 21:41Speaker 1: side around? Yeah? Yeah, depending depending on the handgun. Yeah yeah,
- 21:47Speaker 1: if you if you're real fancy, you have this little
- 21:50Speaker 1: vice that sits on there and then a screw and
- 21:53Speaker 1: then screw gently pushes it. It's not the way I
- 21:56Speaker 1: do it. But if you own one of those things,
- 21:59Speaker 1: bang on a brass punch gives it a hard bit.
- 22:05Speaker 1: With question eight, we will get a scoreboard update from
- 22:10Speaker 1: Phil after this. This next great question comes to us
- 22:14Speaker 1: via Lance Beckman. If you have a question you think
- 22:16Speaker 1: is right for Meat Eat to trivia, you can send
- 22:18Speaker 1: it to Trivia at the meat eater dot com. What
- 22:21Speaker 1: was the nickname given to Nash Buckingham's legendary double barrel
- 22:25Speaker 1: shotgun that makes a deep bellowing sound when fired? I
- 22:30Speaker 1: might be the only one in here that gets this.
- 22:34Speaker 1: What was the nickname giving? What was the nickname given
- 22:41Speaker 1: to Nash Buckingham's legendary double barrel shotgun that makes a
- 22:45Speaker 1: deep bellowing sound when fired? Bonus points for knowing model.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Make that thing. Try a big question mark around legendary,
- 22:58Speaker 1: doesn't it? If most of the room doesn't know what
- 23:01Speaker 1: Oh no, it's like it's legy okay too. Looks like
- 23:07Speaker 1: we have one one real excited kid in the room.
- 23:11Speaker 1: One more time. What was the nickname given to Nash
- 23:13Speaker 1: Buckingham's legendary double barrel shotgun that makes a deep bellowing
- 23:18Speaker 1: sound when fired. Come on, Byron, write something down. It's
- 23:26Speaker 1: his first time. Does everybody have an answer? Go ahead
- 23:32Speaker 1: and reveal your answers. We have Cal saying Betsy, Luke
- 23:35Speaker 1: saying boomer, Byron sang elephant gun, Brodie's saying blunderbuss, Kring
- 23:39Speaker 1: sang the kaboom with an exclamation point, Corey saying double buckman,
- 23:44Speaker 1: Sean saying bo whoop, Rick saying Thundercan, and Adam without
- 23:48Speaker 1: an answer. Sean got it right. The correct answer is
- 23:51Speaker 1: bo whoop. I was gonna say blunderbuss. That's what I'm
- 23:59Speaker 1: a cow. Not much of a legend. Here's here's this
- 24:06Speaker 1: kid in my neighborhood. The fabled twelve Gage was an
- 24:15Speaker 1: h E grade super fox that Buckingham lost while duck
- 24:18Speaker 1: hunting in Arkansas in nineteen forty eight, but it mysteriously
- 24:21Speaker 1: showed up again in Georgia. Fifteen years later. The bow
- 24:24Speaker 1: Whoop was auctioned off in two thousand ten for just
- 24:27Speaker 1: over two hundred thousand dollars, which made it the third
- 24:30Speaker 1: most expensive shotgun in the world at the time. So
- 24:33Speaker 1: I would say it's legendary, the most expensive shotgun. Wonder
- 24:38Speaker 1: was it somehow louder than other twelve gage shotguns? It?
- 24:42Speaker 1: They said it made a deep bellowing sound. Do you
- 24:44Speaker 1: need no one anymore about it, Sean? No? I mean,
- 24:47Speaker 1: I just know that he wrote about it all the time, right, Yeah,
- 24:52Speaker 1: it was like his famous shotgun. And when he lost it,
- 24:55Speaker 1: a game warden was actually checking him, and the game
- 24:57Speaker 1: warden called some muddies and they were like, hey, we're
- 24:59Speaker 1: gonna get to se the bow whoop. And then after
- 25:01Speaker 1: he showed them the bow whoop. After Buckingham showed them
- 25:04Speaker 1: the bow Whoop, he drove away with his with it
- 25:06Speaker 1: on his tailgate and never saw it again. You should
- 25:09Speaker 1: have taken better care of his guns. Hey, do you
- 25:11Speaker 1: think Sean could make the boo whoop deep bellowing sound
- 25:13Speaker 1: for us? Since he's got it right, give it give
- 25:16Speaker 1: it a try. No, no, no, no, no, I only
- 25:18Speaker 1: ever read it in text but I'd like to hear
- 25:21Speaker 1: it right though. He's the only one who knew, so
- 25:24Speaker 1: we should hear it. Zero chance, Phil, We have two
- 25:29Speaker 1: questions left. Give us a scoreboard update, sure thing. We
- 25:32Speaker 1: have Corey and Karen with one point, Luke, Byron and
- 25:36Speaker 1: Adam have three points apiece, and the four players left
- 25:39Speaker 1: in the game are Sean and cow with four points
- 25:43Speaker 1: and Rick and Brody with six. Question nine the topic
- 25:49Speaker 1: of cinema. This Nino movie, which features Daniel day Lewis
- 25:54Speaker 1: playing Nathaniel Poe, destroyed hundreds of real flint locks during
- 25:58Speaker 1: the film's production. What is it? This nine movie, which
- 26:05Speaker 1: features Daniel day Lewis playing Nathaniel Poe, destroyed hundreds of
- 26:10Speaker 1: real flintlocks during the film's production. What is it? Filled?
- 26:14Speaker 1: The engineer? Would have you known this answer? Yes, okay,
- 26:17Speaker 1: it's the only one I would have. The Pennsylvania flintlock
- 26:22Speaker 1: guy over here had a pretty quick answer, Yeah, it's
- 26:26Speaker 1: an American classes. What year were you born? Okay again,
- 26:32Speaker 1: This movie, which features Daniel day Lewis playing Nathaniel Poe,
- 26:36Speaker 1: destroyed hundreds of real flintlocks during the film's production. Now
- 26:40Speaker 1: we have Luke and Adam sharing glances across the table here.
- 26:43Speaker 1: I assume Luke you know it and Adam you don't,
- 26:46Speaker 1: So what's going on here? I think it's my favorite
- 26:48Speaker 1: movie ever. Whoa pretty big hint if you know Luke, well,
- 26:52Speaker 1: Steve would have some things to say about that being
- 26:54Speaker 1: your favorite movie. Does everybody have an answer? Go ahead
- 27:00Speaker 1: and reveal your answers. We have cal saying Last of
- 27:03Speaker 1: the Mohicans, Last of the Mohicans, Last of the Mohicans,
- 27:07Speaker 1: Karin without an answer, Corey without an answer, Shot without
- 27:10Speaker 1: an answer, Rick saying last of the Mohicans, and Adam
- 27:13Speaker 1: without an answer. That is correct, the Last of the Mohicans.
- 27:18Speaker 1: I know. I'm pretty sure Steve would be griping about
- 27:21Speaker 1: that movie right now because they have a red deer
- 27:23Speaker 1: and instead at the beginning. David mccarr wrote about this
- 27:28Speaker 1: movie and it's guns in an article on the media
- 27:30Speaker 1: dot Com called the most Memorable flintlocks for Movies. Here
- 27:33Speaker 1: is one of the carr's quotes about the Last of
- 27:36Speaker 1: the Mohicans. The hunting scenes with Daniel day Lewis running
- 27:40Speaker 1: full speed through the forest while tracking a deer are
- 27:43Speaker 1: absolutely ludicrous, but the dude sure does make flintlocks look
- 27:46Speaker 1: cool as hell. So to your point, Brodie, the hunting
- 27:50Speaker 1: scenes suck, but they make the guns look cool. That
- 27:53Speaker 1: was a great movie. The book like the book is.
- 27:58Speaker 1: I would say five Time is more brutal than the movie.
- 28:02Speaker 1: The book is like vicious nasty. But isn't it based
- 28:06Speaker 1: on Nettie Bumpo. No, it's based on the Last of
- 28:11Speaker 1: the Mohicans. I thought Daniel day Lewis's character, though, is
- 28:14Speaker 1: based on Nettie Bumpo. Now he's Mohawk and I'm sorry
- 28:18Speaker 1: he's uh what is it the long Carabean in the book, Yeah,
- 28:24Speaker 1: getting Supposedly Daniel day Lewis, you know, he's a method actor.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Supposedly he hunted for his food to oh on foot
- 28:33Speaker 1: running through the forest. I imagine if Phil were on
- 28:36Speaker 1: our last questioning Cook's son in the book, Okay, West
- 28:42Speaker 1: study is the dude who plays Magua and Uh, Snart
- 28:45Speaker 1: and I were having a beer over in Livingston last summer,
- 28:50Speaker 1: and uh was he hanging around? And he was hanging around?
- 28:52Speaker 1: Snart barked at him. WHOA. I said, Hey, I think
- 28:55Speaker 1: you reckon that. She's just a puppy. I like your work.
- 29:00Speaker 1: And he seemed to be just fine with that. Head
- 29:02Speaker 1: down the street. Phil, We're on question ten. Give us
- 29:05Speaker 1: a scoreboard update. Well, it's uh down to Rick and Brody,
- 29:09Speaker 1: who have seven points. That's it. I mean, would you
- 29:13Speaker 1: like everybody? Now? That's good Rick and Brody. Everybody's got
- 29:17Speaker 1: each Question ten, the topic is bears. This last great
- 29:20Speaker 1: question comes to us via our very own Jordan's Sillers. Now.
- 29:24Speaker 1: Jordan's writes all of our best gun content on the
- 29:26Speaker 1: mediator dot com, so if you like this episode of trivia,
- 29:29Speaker 1: then you should go read his articles on our website.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Here's the question. Name one of the three most used
- 29:36Speaker 1: handgun cartridges in bare defense incidents. This is according to
- 29:41Speaker 1: a ammal Land survey of ninety three human bear encounters. Again,
- 29:47Speaker 1: name one of the three most used handgun cartridges in
- 29:52Speaker 1: bare defense incidents. Rick, this is your opportunity for your
- 29:57Speaker 1: first win. How do you feel about this answer? You
- 30:00Speaker 1: think you got it? I feel pretty confident, um, but
- 30:03Speaker 1: you never know. It depends on how many years span,
- 30:05Speaker 1: like how far you're going back with this. That could
- 30:07Speaker 1: throw a little because there their bonus if you get
- 30:10Speaker 1: all three. No, and if you are like human bear
- 30:13Speaker 1: interactions where a handgun was used. This is according to
- 30:18Speaker 1: a ammal Land survey of ninety three human bear encounters. Okay,
- 30:25Speaker 1: so this is a conflict situation, not a hunting Okay classification. Okay,
- 30:33Speaker 1: go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Cal saying
- 30:35Speaker 1: the nine mm, Luke saying forty four meg, Byron saying
- 30:39Speaker 1: ten mm, Brody saying forty four meg, Cran saying ten mm,
- 30:43Speaker 1: Corey saying the forty four meg, Shawn saying the forty four,
- 30:46Speaker 1: Rick saying the ten millimeter, and Adam saying the forty four.
- 30:50Speaker 1: The three most used cartridges are the forty four magnum,
- 30:55Speaker 1: three fifty seven magnum and forty five a c P
- 30:59Speaker 1: which gives no win. No I got I put ten
- 31:04Speaker 1: meldown second. Yeah, that was like my second I would
- 31:10Speaker 1: think Rick, I thought that was just just a soft
- 31:14Speaker 1: I think they would be the most popular because it's everywhere. Well,
- 31:18Speaker 1: I feel like every jackass owns a nine millimeter, so
- 31:22Speaker 1: that's why I was true. But the most common they
- 31:25Speaker 1: don't tell about it. If you look at this is
- 31:28Speaker 1: a conflict situation which I feel like a lot of
- 31:31Speaker 1: people who know they're ours from a hole in the
- 31:35Speaker 1: ground in bear country. Don't get in conflict situations. Okay,
- 31:39Speaker 1: you're really deep thinking. I just I'm going off of
- 31:41Speaker 1: all of our hands. If you don't want to win
- 31:43Speaker 1: the Spencer's think more about the question now. The forty
- 31:48Speaker 1: four meg is overwhelmingly the leader in the clubhouse. It
- 31:51Speaker 1: was used in twenty eight of the ninety three incidents.
- 31:55Speaker 1: That's followed by the three seven magnum fort a CP
- 31:58Speaker 1: and then after that I think you had the fine
- 32:00Speaker 1: millimeter and actually think the twenty two long rifle was
- 32:03Speaker 1: in fifth place. Wow, very effective, Brody. You were on
- 32:07Speaker 1: a heater that I don't think we've ever witnessed before
- 32:10Speaker 1: in media trivia. So what happens next? If you get
- 32:13Speaker 1: to choose with a five dollar donation goes? So what's
- 32:15Speaker 1: it gonna be? Let's do the Public Land and Water
- 32:19Speaker 1: Access Group? What the hell is that? They advocate for
- 32:24Speaker 1: access to public lands and waters? They also handle a time.
- 32:29Speaker 1: It was started by a bunch of old pot bellied
- 32:31Speaker 1: uh fly fisherman lawyers who are tired of rolling up
- 32:36Speaker 1: to bridges and public rideaways and seeing no trespassing signs.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Um uh, you know folks trying to passively fight our
- 32:45Speaker 1: access to the waters and streams of Montana and they
- 32:51Speaker 1: are currently working on a bunch of access issues with
- 32:55Speaker 1: you know what, we're seeing a lot of like new
- 32:57Speaker 1: landowners rolling in and trying to shut down pre existing
- 33:01Speaker 1: ease months to public land. So this is a Montana group,
- 33:04Speaker 1: a Western group, nationwide group. What is it? It is
- 33:07Speaker 1: now officially based in Bozeman. Drew Rey Haynes is there
- 33:13Speaker 1: um director CEO. I'm not sure exactly how it structured.
- 33:16Speaker 1: And do they identify themselves as pot bellied to or
- 33:19Speaker 1: do you just identify this is the new generation? Okay,
- 33:21Speaker 1: so they're not pot belly now. And you know, I
- 33:25Speaker 1: think there's some more youth coming into the organization. I
- 33:28Speaker 1: just gave to him because they got a hat from
- 33:30Speaker 1: them that I really like. I like it one more time, Broady.
- 33:33Speaker 1: What are they called? Public Land and Water Access Association?
- 33:39Speaker 1: A great victory by you, now, Adam or Luke. Before
- 33:42Speaker 1: we get out of here, you guys have anything new
- 33:43Speaker 1: and exciting you can talk about that's happening at weather
- 33:46Speaker 1: be right now. Maybe that wildcat cartridge you were teasing earlier. Yeah,
- 33:49Speaker 1: we just launched what is it, Luke our sixteen since
- 33:51Speaker 1: my grandpa in the early forties came out with the
- 33:54Speaker 1: stuff it's our sixteenth whether we uh cartridge. We came
- 33:57Speaker 1: out the six five RPM. A couple of guys in
- 33:59Speaker 1: here been shooting that right, and uh, you got it.
- 34:03Speaker 1: So we're we neck that up to a three thirty
- 34:05Speaker 1: eight and we have a three thirty eight RPM when
- 34:07Speaker 1: in our back country or back country carbon is a
- 34:10Speaker 1: a five pound rifle that you can pack a you know,
- 34:15Speaker 1: grain bullet. So for like a back country elk or
- 34:18Speaker 1: bear type of situation, it's awesome. I've used it on moose,
- 34:22Speaker 1: elk bear just was an Africa with a shot of
- 34:24Speaker 1: kud do, So I mean it it works on large
- 34:26Speaker 1: game but still packs a punch. So it's kind of
- 34:29Speaker 1: kind of our fun newest little thing. So it's actually
- 34:32Speaker 1: this will be the first time I'm publicly talking about it,
- 34:34Speaker 1: so it actually hasn't released yet. Luke and I were
- 34:37Speaker 1: debating on the way here. I's not kind of publicly
- 34:40Speaker 1: fully release it until yes, special Inside Information Tribune one
- 34:45Speaker 1: more time. What's the new cartridge called eight weather be
- 34:48Speaker 1: RPM and RPM stands for rebated Precision Magnum, which describes
- 34:52Speaker 1: the cartridge. And we had the six five previously that
- 34:55Speaker 1: does that and it fits in our small action, so
- 34:57Speaker 1: it's uh yeah, it's a it's a fun round. We've
- 35:00Speaker 1: been having a good time with it. So like that's
- 35:03Speaker 1: in our Mark five family. And we also have a
- 35:05Speaker 1: new Vanguard cipher addition, So it's a Vanguard that's dipped
- 35:11Speaker 1: in first light cipher, Sarah coated, spiral fluded barrel and
- 35:14Speaker 1: comes with a break and you can find more about
- 35:16Speaker 1: that on the Gallery of Guns dot com. And just
- 35:19Speaker 1: call it a sexy gun. It looks nice. Yeah, Why
- 35:22Speaker 1: would you go six six and a half rpm? Is sweet?
- 35:27Speaker 1: I'll tell you that I do like gravitate towards a
- 35:31Speaker 1: heavier projectile. Is that all you're trying to do is
- 35:35Speaker 1: capture folks who want a heavier bullet or what? At
- 35:39Speaker 1: what point would you put down the six and a
- 35:42Speaker 1: half rpm and go with this new one? Yeah? I
- 35:45Speaker 1: mean yeah, for some of the larger game in North America,
- 35:48Speaker 1: I think, I mean I've shot a shot a black Bear,
- 35:51Speaker 1: for instance, with six five rpm. Um, But yeah, I
- 35:54Speaker 1: think in in some of the larger game or maybe
- 35:57Speaker 1: tougher hides, different things where you'd want a larger either
- 35:59Speaker 1: if the person has an interest for it or for
- 36:02Speaker 1: whatever reason you want to, you know, have have a
- 36:04Speaker 1: heavier bullet, a little bit more energy. Canna appeal to that.
- 36:08Speaker 1: So there are guys who like a heavier bullet like you,
- 36:10Speaker 1: And so that way you could with that pair, we
- 36:13Speaker 1: kind of split it where instead of going right up
- 36:15Speaker 1: from six and a half going to a seven or
- 36:16Speaker 1: a thirty, we went all the way to the three.
- 36:18Speaker 1: So really between those two like you can kind of
- 36:21Speaker 1: take anything. Um, yeah, I don't know if that answered
- 36:25Speaker 1: your question, but a lot of Alaskan stuff makes a
- 36:27Speaker 1: lot of sense. Yeah, yeah, I like it. Exciting stuff.
- 36:32Speaker 1: Luke and Adam thank you guys for playing. I hope
- 36:34Speaker 1: you had fun, and join us next time for more
- 36:36Speaker 1: Meatator Trivia the only game show where conservation always wins.
