- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: It's the Almost Famous Podcast. It's Ashley and We're counting
- 0:09Speaker 2: down the top five most shocking moments that happened in
- 0:12Speaker 2: Bachelor Nation this year. We've made it to the number
- 0:14Speaker 2: two moment of the year. This one was everywhere this year.
- 0:18Speaker 2: It really shook up Bachelor Nation. The number two most
- 0:21Speaker 2: shocking moment in Bachelor history was Taylor Freaky Paul being
- 0:25Speaker 2: named the next Bachelorette. This is the first time the
- 0:28Speaker 2: Bachelor Nation lead has really gone for a mini celebrity,
- 0:32Speaker 2: a reality star as the lead.
- 0:35Speaker 3: She is very popular. Secret Lives is very popular. It's
- 0:39Speaker 3: a Hulu show, so it makes sense that she is,
- 0:43Speaker 3: you know, coming over to Bachelorette World. They've never had
- 0:46Speaker 3: somebody who's famous right from ever as a lead, have they.
- 0:53Speaker 4: I mean they used to do. They used to do
- 0:55Speaker 4: like you know, back in your day. They're picking people
- 0:58Speaker 4: kind of.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Out of the firestone. Yeah, a prince a prince true,
- 1:05Speaker 3: but she's like pop culture famous, you know, like they've
- 1:09Speaker 3: never had someone who's not already been on the show.
- 1:12Speaker 3: A change. Who is this is definitely a big change.
- 1:16Speaker 2: We are really excited, and I speak for myself, I
- 1:19Speaker 2: think ben Is is happy. I speak for myself as
- 1:22Speaker 2: I think this is a wonderful move for the Bachelor franchise.
- 1:26Speaker 2: I think they needed something to jazz it up. I
- 1:28Speaker 2: think they needed somebody else's fandom to get involved. And
- 1:33Speaker 2: I think it's great for the whole Hulu ABC Disney
- 1:36Speaker 2: family to get some like Avengers like action here or
- 1:41Speaker 2: with the crossover stars.
- 1:43Speaker 5: It's gonna be really great.
- 1:44Speaker 2: I think they're gonna have some people who have watched
- 1:46Speaker 2: the show in a while come.
- 1:47Speaker 5: Back because of this selection.
- 1:48Speaker 2: They're gonna have a whole new audience who's ever watched
- 1:51Speaker 2: The Bachelor before, who watch Secret Lives and Mormon wise,
- 1:55Speaker 2: they're gonna come on over.
- 1:57Speaker 5: It's gonna give it a.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Great little boost. And Taylor is undeniably a great lead.
- 2:04Speaker 2: We know that she basically leads the Mormon Wive show,
- 2:06Speaker 2: and I think she's gonna do a great job leading
- 2:09Speaker 2: this show as well.
- 2:10Speaker 5: She has the personality.
- 2:13Speaker 4: It does seem to me Trista people are fans of
- 2:16Speaker 4: her because I don't know how else to say it.
- 2:19Speaker 4: I'll say it and get in trouble for it. She's messy,
- 2:23Speaker 4: She's messy. That's how people know her from her show
- 2:26Speaker 4: and her current time is. People have falled along because
- 2:30Speaker 4: of the storylines that have existed around her, right soft swinging,
- 2:35Speaker 4: the arrest, the probation, the pause in filming, to the
- 2:39Speaker 4: chaos that's caused with other people on her show. It's messy,
- 2:43Speaker 4: I think, is the way I'm gonna say it. Get
- 2:45Speaker 4: mad at me for it. If you don't feel that way.
- 2:47Speaker 4: I don't know enough to make a strong statement on this.
- 2:51Speaker 4: I have never known The Bachelorette to be cheered for
- 2:55Speaker 4: and watched because of messiness. I think that changes the
- 2:59Speaker 4: franchise drastically. The franchise has always been about a pursuit
- 3:04Speaker 4: of love, even if people that are watching really don't
- 3:07Speaker 4: believe you can fall in love, and the amount of
- 3:08Speaker 4: time that it takes to film The Bachelor at it
- 3:11Speaker 4: has always been at the core of it. People have
- 3:13Speaker 4: tuned in as a family with their moms, as a
- 3:17Speaker 4: sister group, whatever, because it's the romanticized idea that possibly
- 3:23Speaker 4: something could work from this show. Messiness has never been
- 3:26Speaker 4: the core driver. It might be this season. I'm not
- 3:29Speaker 4: saying it's not going to pick up attention. It's one
- 3:31Speaker 4: hundred percent going to pick up attention. Is that what
- 3:35Speaker 4: we want? And so my question for the audience for Taylor,
- 3:40Speaker 4: for whoever great Taylor, I'm welcoming you into this thing.
- 3:44Speaker 4: I hope you find love from this thing, if that's
- 3:46Speaker 4: what you're really after here. I don't want anybody to
- 3:49Speaker 4: come on this show and their lives become worse for it.
- 3:52Speaker 4: That is not the hope, That is not the dream.
- 3:55Speaker 4: That is not why we've done what we've done on
- 3:57Speaker 4: this show for the last ten years. So I'm getting
- 4:00Speaker 4: behind you, kid, But where does the franchise go from here?
- 4:06Speaker 4: If this is this launching pad for this new era
- 4:11Speaker 4: of The Bachelor and Bachelorette to bring in a whole
- 4:13Speaker 4: new audience of viewers that they need to do, I'm
- 4:17Speaker 4: not mad at them for changing this up. They had
- 4:19Speaker 4: to change it up. They have to try to hit
- 4:22Speaker 4: a home run here, because if they don't, I don't
- 4:25Speaker 4: think we're talking about the Bachelor in a year.
- 4:27Speaker 3: I don't.
- 4:28Speaker 4: I think they're already showing warning signs of that. But
- 4:32Speaker 4: where does the franchise go from here? How do they
- 4:34Speaker 4: top a Taylor Frankie Paul? How do they have a
- 4:37Speaker 4: season that is going to be more polarizing than any
- 4:43Speaker 4: season we've probably seen before. That's why people are going
- 4:45Speaker 4: to watch it. That's why people are going to tune in.
- 4:48Speaker 4: How do you top it year over year over year?
- 4:51Speaker 5: I do think this was shocking to me.
- 4:53Speaker 2: I saw it a rumored or maybe not, it's not
- 4:56Speaker 2: even so rumor, but like people hoping that it could
- 4:59Speaker 2: be Taylor Franks Paul like a week leading up to
- 5:01Speaker 2: it was the first time I started thinking that they
- 5:04Speaker 2: could do a stunt casting like this, and I was
- 5:07Speaker 2: definitely on board. I know that I had maybe a
- 5:11Speaker 2: moment where I was like, oh, was it the greatest decision?
- 5:14Speaker 2: Being that she does have a messy past, and I
- 5:18Speaker 2: think that she has been given enough time to kind
- 5:22Speaker 2: of explain that on her show, and a lot of
- 5:25Speaker 2: people have, you know, forgiven her for what she did there,
- 5:28Speaker 2: hopefully like you know, she she admittedly is like a
- 5:32Speaker 2: sloppier person, which makes her a great reality TV personality.
- 5:37Speaker 2: I also think she seems to have a good heart
- 5:39Speaker 2: and to be a loving mom, and that is going
- 5:43Speaker 2: to get us to be more compelled into this show
- 5:47Speaker 2: as well. We've seen that she hasn't had the best
- 5:49Speaker 2: relationship past which she doesn't have the greatest picker, which
- 5:53Speaker 2: may not be great for her picking. In the end,
- 5:56Speaker 2: hopefully she's grown past out of that phase, but we
- 6:00Speaker 2: all know that even if she hasn't, it will be
- 6:03Speaker 2: delivering entertainment for us all.
- 6:05Speaker 5: And that's a.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Little selfish to say, but you know what I'm saying.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Sometimes people who don't necessarily make the best decisions in
- 6:13Speaker 2: their romantic life give us great seasons of the Bachelor,
- 6:18Speaker 2: at least ones that we can talk about in are
- 6:20Speaker 2: very memorable. Anyway, I do think it's going to work
- 6:24Speaker 2: out well for Taylor, at least for some time.
- 6:29Speaker 5: Anyway, let's get into it.
- 6:31Speaker 2: This is the first time that Bachelor Nation has really
- 6:33Speaker 2: gone for a mini celebrity as a lead. Back in September,
- 6:37Speaker 2: the news broke and to me, not only was Taylor
- 6:41Speaker 2: TikTok famous part of a soft swinging scandal, but she's
- 6:44Speaker 2: also been arrested for domestic violence.
- 6:47Speaker 5: Bachelor Nation.
- 6:48Speaker 2: The fandom seem to be very divided by this announcement,
- 6:51Speaker 2: but overall, a lot of us, especially cast I feel,
- 6:54Speaker 2: think that Taylor will as a lead help inject some
- 6:58Speaker 2: new life into the franchise. Since she was announced, I
- 7:01Speaker 2: got to interview her mom, Leanne and get some more
- 7:04Speaker 2: insight on Taylor and what she hopes the single men
- 7:07Speaker 2: are going to be like on her daughter season. So
- 7:11Speaker 2: what kind of guys do you hope that ABC has
- 7:14Speaker 2: cast for her?
- 7:15Speaker 6: Well, I have talked to the casting director all the time.
- 7:20Speaker 6: I mean we're on the phone all the time. She's
- 7:24Speaker 6: probably thinks I'm crazy, but and I might be a
- 7:27Speaker 6: little bit every now and then, but I just want
- 7:31Speaker 6: somebody who's like that believes in God kind of you know,
- 7:35Speaker 6: like believes in God or has some kind of like
- 7:37Speaker 6: belief other than you know, something like higher power.
- 7:42Speaker 5: Okay, So it does not need to be more.
- 7:44Speaker 6: It doesn't have to be Mormon. No, I mean, obviously
- 7:47Speaker 6: I would like that, but it's not. That's not something
- 7:50Speaker 6: I guess. There's so many great people that aren't Mormon.
- 7:53Speaker 6: Like my father wasn't an LDS guy, and he couldvert
- 7:57Speaker 6: like years later, but he was a great guy and
- 8:00Speaker 6: so and probably one of the best people.
- 8:02Speaker 5: You know.
- 8:02Speaker 6: So a lot of the people that I meet are
- 8:04Speaker 6: outside the religion. So she's like, I'm down to go,
- 8:08Speaker 6: you know, go to some other religion or whatever, or
- 8:12Speaker 6: just just a good guy, just somebody who's like, obviously
- 8:16Speaker 6: you still want them to be like decent looking, you know,
- 8:18Speaker 6: because you want that I feel, and I'm sure she
- 8:21Speaker 6: does too, but just somebody who's like really humble and
- 8:25Speaker 6: caring and puts her like in front of them.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Taylor has been tiktoking through her filming process, another first.
- 8:34Speaker 2: We've been covering it all week to week on the podcast,
- 8:38Speaker 2: and it's been interesting to get real time updates and
- 8:41Speaker 2: teases and see her out on dates and.
- 8:43Speaker 5: Kisses and all that.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Taylor's season of The Bachelor of premieers in March twenty
- 8:47Speaker 2: twenty six, and will be breaking it all down, of course.
- 8:50Speaker 5: And while we were excited to see where this.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Goes, I have a little homework to do and I'll
- 8:53Speaker 2: be using this holiday break watching a lot of secret
- 8:57Speaker 2: lives of Mormon Wives. I am almost on with season one.
- 9:00Speaker 2: I do enjoy it, and I know people tell me
- 9:03Speaker 2: that just gets so much better in season two. So
- 9:06Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to getting to know Taylor more through
- 9:08Speaker 2: the TV screen.
- 9:09Speaker 5: Until next time, I've been Ashley.
