- 0:01Speaker 1: Now Gudro takes control clips an effort to Foley Conner
- 0:04Speaker 1: Tafoles eventual effort Johnny condrou all the way around to
- 0:13Speaker 1: grow shop Stars.
- 0:14Speaker 2: And Beauty by Johnny control.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Glass.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Marchriatto steps off and keeps them alive. But the pass
- 0:21Speaker 1: over to Grove Ju shoot Stars want to play by
- 0:26Speaker 1: control is second goal off.
- 0:28Speaker 2: The game and his three hundred career points. You know,
- 0:37Speaker 2: here on the Alex Gartt podcast network, there is a
- 0:40Speaker 2: lot of aggravation that Johnny grew Joe and his brother
- 0:46Speaker 2: Matthew will no longer be able to play professional hockey. Yes,
- 0:53Speaker 2: Johnny Gudau is an All Star, is a you know,
- 0:57Speaker 2: was a stellar player, and his brother was coming up
- 1:00Speaker 2: the Islanders organization and they were only thirty one and
- 1:04Speaker 2: twenty nine, and yet because of someone's stupid decision to
- 1:14Speaker 2: drive and drink, drink and drive six beers in, they're
- 1:20Speaker 2: no longer here with us today. It doesn't make sense.
- 1:28Speaker 2: And I was gonna load up this podcast with some
- 1:31Speaker 2: other features today, but no, I cannot. I have to
- 1:35Speaker 2: push all that inside and say we need to fix society,
- 1:41Speaker 2: and maybe that's the way we heal from this horrible,
- 1:45Speaker 2: horrible tragedy Johnny Grudeau and his brother Matthew on the
- 1:53Speaker 2: eve of their sister's wedding. We're going through their local
- 2:02Speaker 2: Jersey town, bicycling through it, and this ass killed them.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Six beers in this a hole killed them. I don't
- 2:16Speaker 2: want to mention the drivers, and he doesn't deserve that
- 2:18Speaker 2: note rioting. The guy sat there in court that day
- 2:20Speaker 2: and gave an exasperated sigh when he was told he
- 2:23Speaker 2: was going to be detained. Of course they're going to
- 2:24Speaker 2: be detained. And by the way, drunk driving is causing
- 2:33Speaker 2: more accidents by the month, it feels like, which brings
- 2:39Speaker 2: home the point that these people were people, not just
- 2:43Speaker 2: NHL players. These were people, These were brothers, These were
- 2:49Speaker 2: humans and not just NHL stars, an up and coming
- 2:56Speaker 2: star in Matthew Goodreau. So what happened last night in
- 3:05Speaker 2: New Jersey, with the tragic killing of these two guys,
- 3:14Speaker 2: these two men, we have to do better, We have
- 3:22Speaker 2: to do differently. It should put the fear of God
- 3:27Speaker 2: in every cyclist, in every biker, in every roller blader. Hell,
- 3:31Speaker 2: even people with powerchairs and wheelchairs that can't use a
- 3:34Speaker 2: sidewalk because the sidewalk's infrastructure is horrible. Yes, the Arena
- 3:46Speaker 2: for Columbus is piling up a memorials for Johnny Goudreau
- 3:51Speaker 2: and they had to cancel the wedding today. But this
- 3:56Speaker 2: could have been avoided, as my friend Ryan has been
- 4:02Speaker 2: telling everybody and telling me today, Uber and Lyft were
- 4:04Speaker 2: created for a reason. Six beers should not make you
- 4:10Speaker 2: want to drive. It should make you alert that you
- 4:13Speaker 2: cannot drive while intoxicing. And so the first thing we
- 4:24Speaker 2: can do to have one leg up on the road
- 4:27Speaker 2: is simply this, don't drink and drive. The second thing
- 4:34Speaker 2: we can do to have one leg up on the
- 4:36Speaker 2: road so that cyclist, bicyclists, a rollerbladers, people in power chairs,
- 4:41Speaker 2: wheelchairs who are affected by this. As much as the
- 4:45Speaker 2: NHL community is, as much as the Columbus community is,
- 4:49Speaker 2: as much as the Islanders community is, the cycling community
- 4:55Speaker 2: is affected as well because one of our own. Two
- 5:00Speaker 2: of our own were hit and killed. Bottom line, two
- 5:08Speaker 2: of our own were senselessly hit and killed, and the
- 5:12Speaker 2: suspect is in there saying, oh, I have to be
- 5:14Speaker 2: in here till Thursday. Yeah, you should never be able
- 5:18Speaker 2: to drive again with that irresponsibility of driving and drinking.
- 5:31Speaker 2: You know, everybody made fun of justin Timberlake when he
- 5:33Speaker 2: was pulled over, and he apparently told the young cop, oh,
- 5:36Speaker 2: this will ruin the tour and whatever else, but he
- 5:39Speaker 2: had as that was a serious issue. I don't care
- 5:42Speaker 2: if it was one martini or not. That's a serious
- 5:44Speaker 2: thing to do, driving under the influence with a heavy
- 5:50Speaker 2: vehicle like that. And the other reason why this is
- 5:59Speaker 2: so terrifying is because in twenty twenty four, I feel
- 6:05Speaker 2: like we haven't quite found that harmony between driver and cyclist, rollerblader,
- 6:12Speaker 2: biker and someone who cannot use the sidewalk because it's
- 6:17Speaker 2: all cracked up. We haven't found that harmony where we
- 6:21Speaker 2: can overall, where we can take the streets if we
- 6:25Speaker 2: really need to. Personally, we are very thankful, Gabby and
- 6:30Speaker 2: I are blessed that you know, when we travel, we
- 6:33Speaker 2: do go on the road because it's easier for both
- 6:35Speaker 2: of us. And they literally go to the other lade,
- 6:44Speaker 2: they go to the other lane. But this guy clearly
- 6:47Speaker 2: was too impaired to even do that. And I'm looking
- 6:51Speaker 2: at the highlights now from a year ago of Johnny
- 6:54Speaker 2: Grudreau where the NHL said, take a look at the
- 6:58Speaker 2: highlights of Johnny Grudau career. So far, those are painful
- 7:03Speaker 2: words right now. So far, that guy had a Stanley
- 7:09Speaker 2: Cup vision, that guy had all Star Games already under
- 7:12Speaker 2: his belt looking for more. The guy was great, and
- 7:22Speaker 2: for his life to be taken like this, we can't
- 7:27Speaker 2: just go on to the next news story or next story. No,
- 7:31Speaker 2: we have to truly analyze how we can make it
- 7:34Speaker 2: different for other cyclists and those who use another set
- 7:38Speaker 2: of wheels that aren't car wheels, car tires. Because I've
- 7:48Speaker 2: had a personal friend of mine get killed by a
- 7:51Speaker 2: drunk driver this year already. Her name was Emily, and
- 7:59Speaker 2: she leaves a six year old boy. The New York
- 8:02Speaker 2: Posts been talking about her. She jumped in the way
- 8:06Speaker 2: of a drunk driver erratically driving, nearly hitting her kids,
- 8:11Speaker 2: so she jumped in front and took the blow. The
- 8:16Speaker 2: nail salon where four people, including a cop, dead because
- 8:21Speaker 2: of a drunk driver hitting an own salon on a
- 8:24Speaker 2: long island. Haven't we heard enough of these stories and
- 8:30Speaker 2: these tragedies to actually say, as a community, we've learned
- 8:37Speaker 2: the sense of entitlement of someone that thinks they can
- 8:39Speaker 2: get behind the wheel and drive and think they're okay.
- 8:42Speaker 2: It's kind of arrogant, it's kind of selfish, and now
- 8:58Speaker 2: it's turned into even more death. And those are three
- 9:01Speaker 2: notable drunk driving accidents this year, and I'm sure many
- 9:06Speaker 2: more that haven't gone on the radar so much. But
- 9:13Speaker 2: the Gudreaus should still be here today, Many of those
- 9:18Speaker 2: killed by drunk drivers should be here today. And I
- 9:23Speaker 2: just want to say, I one leg up with Alex Garrett.
- 9:25Speaker 2: We can have one leg up on the road together.
- 9:27Speaker 2: We can collectively call for harmony between drivers and bikers, rollerbladers,
- 9:34Speaker 2: cyclists and people in power chairs and wheelchairs who can't
- 9:37Speaker 2: use the sidewalk but need to use the road. And
- 9:41Speaker 2: I'll loopen the politicians here. You don't want these things
- 9:45Speaker 2: to happen. Make the sidewalks more friendly to wheels. Y'all
- 9:53Speaker 2: are debating about everything under the sun except what matters most,
- 9:59Speaker 2: and that is literal lives could be saved if these
- 10:02Speaker 2: sidewalks were just polished and fixed up even for a second.
- 10:15Speaker 2: The loss of Johnny and Matthew Goudreau is sending shockwaves
- 10:20Speaker 2: through a lot of different arenas, and as a roller skater,
- 10:27Speaker 2: I think it's time to be more mindful myself. I
- 10:30Speaker 2: keep saying oh, I won't listen to the headphones on
- 10:33Speaker 2: the road. I fail at that because when there's an
- 10:35Speaker 2: empty road, I kind of just go and fly and
- 10:40Speaker 2: say within the white lines or the bike lane. But
- 10:48Speaker 2: maybe maybe bikers and rollerbladers shouldn't take that chance anymore
- 10:55Speaker 2: because there is carelessness on the roads and that carelessness
- 11:02Speaker 2: is leading to death. So I don't care who you are.
- 11:12Speaker 2: If you feel you've had too much, and you've had
- 11:15Speaker 2: way too much, just call the uber, Just call the lift.
- 11:21Speaker 2: These deaths are preventable, one thousand percent preventable. And I'm
- 11:31Speaker 2: sorry that the second edition of One Leg Up on
- 11:32Speaker 2: News has to be this, but it has to be
- 11:34Speaker 2: told that there could be a way we can call
- 11:36Speaker 2: for collective harmony between drivers and bikers and and those
- 11:41Speaker 2: who have sets of other sets of wheels. There can
- 11:47Speaker 2: be we just have to collectively call for it and
- 11:50Speaker 2: maybe call our politicians' office to get you know, even
- 11:53Speaker 2: the streets and the sidewalks to be better, put in
- 11:58Speaker 2: invest the money there, and maybe we just ask the
- 12:04Speaker 2: bikers and car and drivers understand each other better as well.
- 12:12Speaker 2: I have to believe that Matthew and Johnny, we're in
- 12:15Speaker 2: the right in the correct lane and that this other
- 12:20Speaker 2: drunk driver had to have veered into them usually how
- 12:26Speaker 2: it goes. But to me, you've had six beers, sir,
- 12:33Speaker 2: it's horrific, is selfish, and I hope you never touched
- 12:39Speaker 2: the car that you were driving or any car again,
- 12:43Speaker 2: and that your license is permanently revoked. But there have
- 12:50Speaker 2: been three different instants now of horror, and have we
- 12:56Speaker 2: not learned from them yet as a society. So my
- 13:05Speaker 2: pronged approach is this, drivers, don't drive and drink. Drink
- 13:09Speaker 2: and drive. Respect those rules of the road, including respecting
- 13:20Speaker 2: those on wheels who cannot use a sidewalk or choose
- 13:23Speaker 2: not to because it's rough as hell on those sidewalks.
- 13:27Speaker 2: And then for the politicians, please focus on infrastructure, not idiocy.
- 13:41Speaker 2: But in many ways, I'm glad these highlights exist because
- 13:52Speaker 2: Johnny's amazingness will live on, Matthew's amazingness will live on.
- 13:59Speaker 2: But they should be here today. They should absolutely be
- 14:03Speaker 2: here right now at their sister's wedding. And if we
- 14:08Speaker 2: don't learn from this high profile junk driving accident, we'll
- 14:12Speaker 2: never learn. And that's why I think we got to
- 14:16Speaker 2: all work together to have one leg up on the
- 14:19Speaker 2: road and speaking of that, a little more from Johnny
- 14:24Speaker 2: Goudreau as the world honors the Goudrus and prays for
- 14:31Speaker 2: their family today, and we pray for the family. On
- 14:37Speaker 2: the Alex Garrett Podcast Network.
- 14:49Speaker 3: Trying to get rid of they said calder really quick
- 14:57Speaker 3: pocket movement here by the flames, sharp passing here. I'm
- 15:02Speaker 3: sure there's some direction from the coaching staff about the turnovers.
- 15:06Speaker 3: You look at fret person right up the middle hurdle.
- 15:09Speaker 3: Can't handle it, Hennis one coodrol. He dangles around in
- 15:14Speaker 3: the offensive so he gets a return pass from men
- 15:18Speaker 3: and beautiful puck handling here, turned to the corner to go.
- 15:26Speaker 2: He's as.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Rollo.
- 15:42Speaker 2: We'll miss your New Jersey natives, Johnny Gudreau and Matthew
- 15:46Speaker 2: gudra
