- 0:00What do you know? We're in the same place.
- 0:04What a time to be alive. It's a Friday.
- 0:07We got a lot of listener questions and nuanced conversations we're
- 0:10gonna have. I'm absolutely pissed off in a way that I can't even
- 0:14remember. This is gonna be a lot of fun, Tanya. I'm Cody Decker.
- 0:18We're The Regulars. And you? I'm Tanya Rae Fox, and I'm here— I'm here
- 0:21to essentially, uh, guide you emotionally and spiritually through
- 0:25this entire show. So let's see how it goes. Cheers. Let's do this.
- 0:37Look at us back on the West Coast, the best coast, exactly where we all
- 0:40belong and should be. Tonya Rae Fox, Cody Decker, the regulars, and all of you.
- 0:44Ladies and gentlemen, like, share, and subscribe wherever you get your favorite podcasts. And of
- 0:47course, right here on YouTube. And if you're watching us on Instagram,
- 0:50welcome. Welcome to the shit show. Also,
- 0:53reminder once again, If you're watching on Instagram and
- 0:56the, and the picture kind of just goes in on the
- 1:00middle of this frame here, all you got to do is pop out of it
- 1:04and pop back in. People in the chat, if you are listening right now and
- 1:07other people pop in and they're like, it's not fixing, tell them how
- 1:10to fix it so that they can see our gorgeous faces. Very simple.
- 1:14All you have to do is the following action. Go to Tonya Rae Fox's
- 1:18specific Instagram page. You'll see her thing has a big red circle around it,
- 1:21says live. You click on it. And if you type in a comment, it might
- 1:25zoom in. Just get right back out to Tanya's page, click it right back in,
- 1:29and you're going to see a full widescreen version yet again. Now, yes,
- 1:33I'm not thrilled we're opening the show with this. I mean,
- 1:37that is necessary information. We're getting more and more people in Instagram and they
- 1:42get so frustrated and I'm like, I do get it. I do understand. At the
- 1:44same time, because we can't really show that, shoot this in, you know,
- 1:49portrait mode. You know what I should do? I should do a PSA on my
- 1:52Instagram, like with a reel. That's like explains that this happened and like pin
- 1:56it so it's always there so that people know. Because again, I'm, I'm the social
- 2:00media, I'm the driving force of our internet presence. That is 100% true.
- 2:04My internet presence has flat out died down so much in the last 8
- 2:08years. Funny enough, better for your mental health. The more I've gotten into sports
- 2:12media, the more I pulled away from social media. Yeah, understandable.
- 2:15Wholeheartedly. Like, wow. Which is— I know it should be an oxymoron, but like,
- 2:19I was really popular on social media when I was a pro baseball player.
- 2:22Sure you were. No, I was not. I know that specifically on Twitter. I was
- 2:25never actually all that popular on Instagram, now I think about it. But Twitter was
- 2:28its own— was its own place for an ecosystem where— yeah,
- 2:32where there were people who were Twitter popular. And by the way, that would get
- 2:35people jobs. Like back when Twitter was in its prime,
- 2:38people were getting like writing gigs for TV from Twitter. They were getting sports
- 2:42media jobs from Twitter. Then it became TikTok. That was the place where you would
- 2:45sort of blow up. What I liked about Twitter at the time, because it was—
- 2:48it was— it was literally you had the opportunity to really like kind of show
- 2:51your intelligence. Kind of. You, you had to use words. And at
- 2:55the time, like, how wonderful, people are using their words and getting recognized.
- 2:59And, you know, of course at the time I didn't really see the bastardization and
- 3:02how evil it could be used for, even though I knew it could be used
- 3:05for something. But listen, now Twitter's a shit show, and now everything's kind of moved
- 3:09over to TikTok, and now TikTok is a shit show, and everything's moved over to
- 3:11Instagram. And are we pretending that Instagram is not a fucking shit
- 3:15show? Uh, Threads is like, you know, slowly but surely becoming the same level
- 3:19of toxic as Twitter. Uh, the only difference is that like I actually do I,
- 3:23I don't know how people use Twitter anymore. You don't get your, like, comments,
- 3:26don't get information, and like, even just trying to navigate your own
- 3:30comment section anymore, like, it doesn't prioritize anybody that you actually follow.
- 3:33At least Threads still does that. So whatever. But we're not here to talk
- 3:37about that. We're here to talk about the show that our followers helped us build.
- 3:41That's right. And by the way, I can't stress enough how much I love doing
- 3:43this show and how happy I am that you're back. And I mean that wholeheartedly.
- 3:47Like, I'm very fucking happy that here. I'm very happy that
- 3:50I'm— I can say fuck again with a microphone in front of me. I can't
- 3:53do it for 4 hours a day, 5 days a week. Absolute nightmare. And you
- 3:56have no idea how fucking hard it's been lately. But yeah,
- 4:00I'm really glad. Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck. Oh, get it all out.
- 4:04Ah, so good. So good to actually feel alive again. But no,
- 4:08it's just we got a lot to cover today. And by the way, I really
- 4:11liked the kind of theme of today's show. Yeah, we've never done this. It's more
- 4:13of like a— it's kind of an AMA, ask us anything type of situation.
- 4:17And I love what's in this rundown. And also what's
- 4:22in this rundown is gonna fucking finally do it. It's gonna finally break
- 4:27me because the shit in the rundown today is just very good
- 4:30nuanced conversation that is not happening. Yeah, fucking anywhere.
- 4:34Um, mind-boggling that it's not. That being said,
- 4:37really excited about the show. But more importantly, before we get to that, before we
- 4:41get to our first headline, I just want to know, how was the trip in
- 4:43Boston? How was the family? How is How is your mom? Is my dad still
- 4:45haunting her? All the things. All the things. Uh, your dad has
- 4:49chilled out for the summer, which is good. So she was great. She was
- 4:53able to chill out for her birthday week. Um, it was great. You know,
- 4:56I kept it really low-key. A lot of times in the summer trips I do—
- 4:59I'm bopping around, I go into the city, I do all that stuff. I went
- 5:02into it with a, with a, uh, a cough. I don't know if you remember
- 5:05that, but I do. You were not feeling good. I had a lung infection,
- 5:08so I went into it on antibiotics. Didn't know that one of the side effects
- 5:11of antibiotics is, uh, like sun sensitivity. So antibiotics,
- 5:15dude, fuck you up. I got fucked up. I had like— I
- 5:19broke out in a rash, had to get a thing for that. Wait a second,
- 5:22you were on a fucking— on a boat every day? Well,
- 5:25so it was like a week in, I would say like maybe 5 or 6
- 5:29days in, and then once I— that was the case, I would wear my bathing
- 5:32suit and sit in the bathing suit under the like bimini
- 5:36on the boat because I literally couldn't go in the sun. It was a real
- 5:39disaster. Like, I couldn't be poolside the way I wanted to be, whatever. But I
- 5:43was with family, got to see my friends. That's all that matters. So those are
- 5:46the rejuvenating things. Got to see my, you know, my little best friends, you know,
- 5:48their kids who are like my nieces and nephews. You know the deal.
- 5:52Um, but you know, nothing really rejuvenates
- 5:56me quite as much as being, uh, back in the studio. I actually am really
- 5:58happy to be back together with the gang.
- 6:02Mocha's here. Mocha, yell to the people that you're here. Mocha! He back,
- 6:06baby! We're back, baby! And he's 28 now.
- 6:1028? You're, you're like an adult, dude. Like, you— I hate to be that guy,
- 6:14but I got married right around that time. Late 20s.
- 6:18And then 5 years from now, I got divorced from that time. 30 is the
- 6:20new 20. 30 is the new— you know, I'm 39 right now, and, uh,
- 6:24my birthday will be in January, and I, I, I'm not 29.
- 6:28I'm definitely not. I'm definitely 39. And I've— buddy, I have— this
- 6:3239 years, I have lived fucking centuries in this amount of time,
- 6:36and I feel like it's starting to wear in. Yeah, but it also— the COVID
- 6:40years, they say we get to like not count those towards our age, so you
- 6:43get to take a couple years off. Funny you say that, those doubled my age.
- 6:46Well, that was, you know, a personal choice. No, there was a lot that happened
- 6:50in COVID because— sure, yeah, COVID was nuts. We'll get into it one of these
- 6:53days. Someday, maybe perhaps that'll be a special episode. Dude, I, I have—
- 6:57my COVID stories are nuts. Lord dump episode,
- 7:01maybe someday. That's actually not a bad idea when the news is slower, when we
- 7:04perhaps as a And maybe a 1-year anniversary show. Maybe,
- 7:07like, we'll find— there's our 1-year anniversary show, by the way, is going to be
- 7:11like right at the Super Bowl. Fuck yeah. Well, that's awesome for a lot of
- 7:14reasons. One, because I'm looking forward to it because I have no— Radio Row
- 7:18is going to be here and I might be very lucky. I have no idea.
- 7:21Yeah, but I, I, I might get very lucky that I might not
- 7:25have to step fucking foot in it. Right. I, I'm really hopeful because, you know,
- 7:28we're, we're the fan in LA. Yeah. I'm hoping we just are able to use
- 7:32our own studio. Like, why not? Like, dude, we're here. Bring Radio Row to us.
- 7:35I know it's tough though, because then they have like, they have people doing the
- 7:38rounds and that's like— but here's the truth and this is the 100% truth.
- 7:42I appreciate what Radio Row is and getting over. The car wash sucks. It's not—
- 7:46I don't think it's good radio. I think it's dog shit. I agree. You're going
- 7:49to have to convince the fan of that is the problem. Well, they listen to
- 7:53everything I say. All right. No, it's going to be
- 7:56It's going to be cool because here's what I'm excited about for Radio Row.
- 8:00For me and you, it's— I want to bring Radio Row here. Yeah, like here
- 8:04to our studio, to our pool. We should have Radio Row pool parties, specials.
- 8:08We'll do like— we can— we could host a like Welcome to L.A. type event,
- 8:11have people here. And if Lamar is in the Super Bowl, like, we got to
- 8:15get Lamar here one day. If he's not in the Super Bowl, we got to
- 8:17get Lamar here one day. If— well, he'll be here either way, right? If he's
- 8:20not in the Super Bowl, he'll be here. And is there anybody he should be
- 8:23talking to more than yours truly? There's no other person on planet Earth That
- 8:27honestly, I shouldn't even be on that episode. He should be sitting here in my
- 8:30seat and he could be the regular that day. Yeah, that's actually— imagine, oh my
- 8:34God, the regulars with Lamar Jackson and Tiny Ray Fox. Perfect.
- 8:38I'm even being replaced on my own show. I hate to think it could be
- 8:40our greatest show yet, but— Well, thanks. I've already been replaced. That was fast.
- 8:44Fuck, that was real fast. I'm just trying to set him up for his post-career
- 8:48media career. Hostile work environment. Hostile work environment. Okay, Tanya, so we got a lot
- 8:52to talk about and I really, really liked your ideas on today's show. You decided
- 8:56to put the show out to the people. A lot of the people out there
- 8:57went ahead and gave their opinions on what we should
- 9:01talk about. And I gotta say, the things we're talking about today,
- 9:04I'm a big fan. I'm a big fan of what this rundown is. Yeah,
- 9:07we have really good viewers,
- 9:10followers, people who engage with our stuff, whether it's online or actually watching the show.
- 9:14And it's all stuff that I think that you and I would have enjoyed
- 9:18talking about. Obviously, I couldn't fit every single suggestion
- 9:22in there, 'cause we actually got a lot. So I picked out kind of ones
- 9:25that were repeats from people, and/or kind of broke up some of the monotony
- 9:29of the intensity of some of the things we're talking about. Talking about. So,
- 9:32uh, everybody will get shouted out if we use the topic. Absolutely.
- 9:36Let's kick it off. Um, number one, this was
- 9:39the most popular request we got, was, uh, the Sophie Cunningham
- 9:44mess in some capacity. Oh, you mean the number one story in America
- 9:48right now? It's not. Probably should be though. Um, it is pretty big
- 9:52online. God forbid that actually translate into the world,
- 9:55but, um, The, the whole Sophie Cunningham thing is—
- 9:59it's become— it's begun to have different branches coming off of it.
- 10:02So, uh, this was suggested— the, the suggestion
- 10:06from Century Got Bars said Sophie Cunningham and her outspoken views
- 10:10on being anti-trans but dodging the presser after the Seattle game and,
- 10:14uh, in her— the rally in her name refused to answer questions,
- 10:18yet her Black teammates were made to face the scrutiny with Coach
- 10:21White. This was also suggested by Kicking It with Jazz.
- 10:25And what, what happened was there was this weird, you know,
- 10:29pro or anti-trans in
- 10:32sports rally in support
- 10:35of Sophie Cunningham because they were supporting her that she's anti-trans girls in sports.
- 10:40And not only was it made clear that Caitlin
- 10:44Clark and Sophie Cunningham were not going to be made available for non-basketball questions postgame,
- 10:49Clark was listed as one of the Fever players originally available postgame, but they
- 10:52added Kelsey Mitchell instead. So to Century
- 10:56God Bar's point, they had 2 Black women Fever players
- 11:00and Stephanie White answering questions on behalf of these 2 white women who are at
- 11:03the center of controversy constantly. The Storm owner
- 11:07who interacted with fans who were supporting Sophie
- 11:11Cunningham in it— listen,
- 11:14definitely an aggressive way she exchanged
- 11:18with these 2 teenage girls who were depicting— had shirts depicting XX
- 11:22and XY chromosomes, who said Keaton approached
- 11:26them, cursed, and called them insane during
- 11:29Tuesday night's game against the Indiana Fever. Well, they are. So couldn't agree
- 11:34more with her, quite honestly. I completely agree. I think it's totally appropriate to tell
- 11:37teenagers who are pro, you know, who are against
- 11:41trans rights. Yeah, there's nothing— there's nothing more cool than being truly,
- 11:45truly truly against the most vulnerable community
- 11:49and smallest community that might exist on this planet.
- 11:53Yeah, I— your fucking brain calling them insane is
- 11:56melted. Calling you not insane is really funny. Fuck you is really the thing.
- 11:59Fuck you also. Like, oh my God. And so she got— she got suspended.
- 12:03And in response to a post about the apology
- 12:08that was issued by the Storm, Cunningham wrote on
- 12:11X, Truly embarrassing of the co-owner.
- 12:14Unfortunately shows the type of leader she is. So this bitch is tripling the
- 12:18fuck down on being an absolute piece of shit. And real quick, didn't have
- 12:22the fucking balls to go to a press conference and say shit.
- 12:25Just fucking typing like a keyboard. Where's the— how about this? Where's this girl?
- 12:28Where's this— where's this girl at? Yeah, this girl's only at— only there when
- 12:32there's no fucking consequences, huh? Oh no, when it's a— when it's a fellow Black
- 12:36woman in the league in front of her that she can taunt. But, but once
- 12:39it comes to actually having to speak to the media and take accountability for the
- 12:42shit show she started. Hey, get to the mic. No, let's get to the mic
- 12:45and tell us how much you love the support of the anti-trans rally that showed
- 12:49up for you. Or tell them, tell them that you don't support. But oh
- 12:53no, no, you're gonna get— you're gonna wait for the apology from the Storm co-owner,
- 12:56who by the way didn't say shit to you, said something to 2 teenage girls,
- 12:59but okay. And you're gonna talk your shit from behind that, and then you're gonna
- 13:02get back out there and you're gonna go let Mm, yeah, that's exactly right.
- 13:06You're not tough. You're actually the antithesis of tough. That's actually embarrassing
- 13:10shit. That's cowardly little shit. And on top of it, at least get
- 13:14some balls and get in front of it. On top of it, Cody, to suck
- 13:17at basketball, the gall to be this pathetic, this hateful,
- 13:21this much of a like absolutely craven fucking loser,
- 13:25right? She— this is the most attention she's ever gotten in her life for anything
- 13:29related to playing basketball. She's never been a superstar. Better get all into
- 13:33that MAGA grift. You better get into it now because that MAGA grift will be
- 13:36dying pretty soon. You know, they're running out of time. They're kind of sick of
- 13:39Riley Gaines. They need their new Riley Gaines. That's right. They got her going to
- 13:41pop in, right? So because at least this Riley Gaines played an actual
- 13:46sport. The other Riley Gaines came in 5th in a race one time. Yes.
- 13:49So at least you're getting a pro athlete this time, or actually
- 13:53an athlete of any semblance. And this one got work done to her face that
- 13:56made her look no longer like a thumb. Riley Gaines unfortunately couldn't stop looking like
- 14:00a thumb with googly eyes glued onto it. I loved her performance in the— in,
- 14:03um, in, um, specifically in that— in the cave scene in,
- 14:07in, um, The Odyssey. Oh yes, she was great in that. She actually was really
- 14:10good. They made her look really tall when she was going— when she was like
- 14:13saying the prayers to Poseidon. Yes, good shit. Incredible stuff. And I had no
- 14:17idea she could house down that many. So I kind of, kind of taking
- 14:20back a couple of things I'm saying, I guess. Yeah. So, uh, they've got their
- 14:24new ambassador. The, the thing I think that you and I, where we
- 14:29can really hold down this conversation best, is In another aspect
- 14:33of it that was proposed by a couple other people for a topic,
- 14:38Liquid81, one of my followers on Threads who loves our
- 14:42content, Janae Danielle, she said,
- 14:45I'd love to hear a dedicated and nuanced discussion on how the WNBA used
- 14:50to be the one league dedicated to social justice and inclusivity,
- 14:53so much that it forced the dream owner to sell.
- 14:56Now, by the way, it wasn't long ago. It wasn't. Now then, there's— now there's
- 15:00an openly transphobic player who motivated an anti-trans protest leading
- 15:04to the Storms owner's suspension, intentionally stokes racial tension,
- 15:08and is somehow the featured player commentator for the USA Network
- 15:13coverage. When did the values change? And following up on that,
- 15:16our other follower Omar Zahn said, would love to hear your take
- 15:20on MAGA's obsession with dealing Uh, with,
- 15:23uh, derailing the WNBA with their agenda and blatant
- 15:27transphobia. I know you've made videos on this before, but I just feel
- 15:30like you always bring a very real and necessary voice to these conversations.
- 15:34And I believe he's talking to me and you. Uh, no, I believe specifically
- 15:38to you. Well, because you do more videos on that than I do.
- 15:41I don't— we haven't talked about this a lot on the show. We have.
- 15:43We— no question we have. That's not something that we have— that I've done only.
- 15:46Like, oh no, no, we've done it. I've just sadly— I don't have the social
- 15:49media presence of like doing the video straight to video. I just
- 15:52don't— I'm a straight to video gal. But no, that's something you— that's something you—
- 15:55but it is a skill you have that you are astonishingly good at. Thank you.
- 15:59I have— you and I share a lot of similar
- 16:04views on a lot of these things. Let's start with you.
- 16:07I honestly, I know what your opinion is, but let's start with
- 16:10you and let's just have a discussion on this because, yes, I think this is—
- 16:14I don't think the conversation is all that nuanced. I do appreciate asking
- 16:18about the nuance of the conversation. I don't think there's nuance. I think she wants
- 16:21us to have a more— like, I think when they— a lot of times when
- 16:24people are asking for nuance, they're asking us to actually have a discussion that surrounds
- 16:28these topics beyond just the outrage. Okay, we got our outrage
- 16:32out of the way, right? Now we're talking about what's actually happening. And what's actually
- 16:36happening is there's a twofold thing, which is that the entire country,
- 16:40across industries, across women's sports, men's sports, across outside
- 16:46of sports, is becoming increasingly more loudly racist, loudly transphobic,
- 16:51homophobic. Yes. Loudly bigoted and fascist.
- 16:55The increase in the relationship between billionaires
- 16:58who own and run all these leagues and the government.
- 17:02So we're now living in this sort of oligarchical system that's always existed
- 17:05but has been exacerbated by the— by the significantly worse
- 17:09than it's ever been in my lifetime. I never— I never— I never thought there'd
- 17:12be a day where I would look back at 1980s Reaganomics going like, the good
- 17:16old days. Oh yeah. Because you got to understand, like, there were films made,
- 17:18movies made, sci-fi movies made specifically about how bad
- 17:23things were in the late '80s around Reaganomics. Like, one of my favorite John Carpenter
- 17:27movies is They Live. It's a movie about aliens that are entirely the ruling class
- 17:31of our entire world. And it's entirely about— it's entirely about Reaganomics.
- 17:34Yeah. It's a brilliant, brilliant, brilliant film.
- 17:37What I would give to live in 19 goddamn '87
- 17:41at this point, because this is the worst reality
- 17:45America has had, no question, in my lifetime. But I feel like
- 17:48we've actually reverted back to the 1940s. Yeah, it's— I'm sorry. You know what?
- 17:52I'm going to go before that. I'm going to say 1935. I'm going to say
- 17:54before FDR showed up. Yeah. And in some ways,
- 17:58even in that space, we almost can't even go backwards because
- 18:02we have learned so much from that, that for us to regress to this
- 18:05place is, uh, it's his own sort of shame.
- 18:09Um, I feel like I'm gonna sneeze, so— well, if you'd like,
- 18:13go ahead and sneeze and I'll just take over. Um, there is something you said
- 18:16that I think is so ungodly. Here's the nuance of the
- 18:20conversation. Why is the league kind of turning into this?
- 18:24Why is the league getting away from its social justice thing? You already hit the
- 18:28nail on the head. It's— sports have been commandeered, and, well,
- 18:31it was already, as you mentioned, already owned by every billionaire humanly possible.
- 18:34Now we're getting expansions in these leagues, we're getting new TV deals,
- 18:38and we're getting an influx of more billionaire hedge funds. All billionaire hedge
- 18:41funds are not necessarily— and hear me out before, before anybody bites my head
- 18:45off— they're not necessarily MAGA. Not necessarily.
- 18:49I want to specify there's a conservatism to them and whatever else,
- 18:52but it's not necessarily a MAGA. It's not necessarily MAGA. What it is
- 18:57is opportunistic billionaires who know an opportunity
- 19:00when they see one. Cravenly late-stage capitalists who have no problem taking full advantage
- 19:04of MAGA because MAGA is doing everything they would ever
- 19:08dream of because they're making their profit margins even larger.
- 19:12This is where sports
- 19:15loses me entirely as a fan. Yeah,
- 19:19this is where everything goes out the window.
- 19:23Sports are played by people. Sports are viewed by people. We have removed all semblance
- 19:27of humanity from our sports. Now, the same people that were screaming,
- 19:32keep your politics out of my sports, are so desperate to have their politics
- 19:36in our sports. And their politics are not politics.
- 19:41Their politics are actually just— how do I put
- 19:45this— a way for people to step,
- 19:48step on somebody else's head to call themselves big.
- 19:52There is a bully nature to this, and it's actually the saddest
- 19:56type of bully nature. It's the bullied. It's the people who couldn't
- 20:00do things that want to bully. It's very ungodly,
- 20:04sad, and little. But I understand the profit
- 20:08margin aspect of this to a point. Like you said, it's late-stage capitalism.
- 20:12At the end of the day, they're going to go where the money is,
- 20:14not where the morals are. There's not a single billionaire that got to be a
- 20:17billionaire because they're moralistically good. Not one. I'll wait.
- 20:21I'll sit here and wait all day until someone can tell me Point out one
- 20:25billionaire who isn't fucking an insane,
- 20:28evil person, period. I've met 2. They're the most evil, insane people
- 20:33I've ever met in my life. Yeah, it's— you can't possibly become a billionaire without
- 20:36exploitation. We all know that. It's literally not possible. And there's another aspect to
- 20:41this that I think also applies specifically to the WNBA right now, which is that
- 20:46we sometimes think things are coincidental that aren't.
- 20:50And just as this really deeply anti-trans
- 20:55push has existed over the last like 5 years, but specifically since
- 20:59the original Trump administration and then continuing into this, right? There has
- 21:03been this concerted effort to derail women's sports by using trans
- 21:07girls and women as the cudgel to do it, invoking them as a way
- 21:11to invade women's bodies, women's sports, women's safe spaces
- 21:15by saying, well, we have to test your bodies. We have to make sure that
- 21:18there's no men here No biological men playing with you
- 21:22to endanger you. Meanwhile, every single woman who's ever played sports has been
- 21:26assaulted by a coach or like harassed by a coach. Yeah, but we don't need
- 21:29to, you know, we don't have to talk about that, Tanya. Let's not talk about
- 21:32it or legislate that. Let's make sure trans people are somehow demonized,
- 21:35right? So this— so the, the WNBA is, is getting—
- 21:39is gaining steam on its own. We are already seeing record,
- 21:42you know, crowds and everything else at these events. We're seeing
- 21:46the Dream being held accountable, that they're gonna— the owner's gonna force to be sold,
- 21:50all those things. Suddenly Caitlin Clark comes along,
- 21:54and there was a real effort to create
- 21:58the kind of mania around Caitlin Clark that we have not seen around a
- 22:02woman's star in a really long time. That was not
- 22:06an accident. Nope. That was not a— like, yes,
- 22:09there are some people that were pulled in, the media and fans, whatever else,
- 22:12but realistically The opportunity and what was— what the desired effect
- 22:16was from people who pull the strings was let's bring more eyeballs to the WNBA.
- 22:20We're going to bring everybody into the WNBA. Yeah, sure. They're going
- 22:24to, you know, some people will make their money, the billionaires will invest. Great.
- 22:26Everybody wins. And we'll dismantle women's sports from the fucking
- 22:30outside in. This will take the entire fucking league of these Black
- 22:35queer women that have built up the most socially
- 22:39progressive public league in the country. And we
- 22:42will fucking dismantle it, and it will become exactly what
- 22:46we want it to be. It will become the NFL, it will become the NBA,
- 22:49it will become the MLB. It will become a company run by conservative
- 22:53white people, catered to conservative white people, that platforms
- 22:58conservative white players. That's what it will become. That is what every fucking sport— no,
- 23:02but make sure we understand that. Platform the white players while actually
- 23:06on the back of all the African-American players. Well, that, that's exactly right. Let's be
- 23:10real clear, they have to marry the NFL. Exactly like the NFL, the NBA,
- 23:13the NBA, and the MLB, by the fucking way. No question. So this
- 23:17is— they, they took the blueprint that they've used to turn every single
- 23:21one of these other leagues into conservative fascist
- 23:25safe havens and said, well, what if we could get our hands on the Black
- 23:28Queer Women League? And look how fast it fucking happened.
- 23:33Look how fucking fast it happened. Now we've got— now
- 23:36the thing that's really fascinating about this is there's competing interests going on here.
- 23:39And this is what it comes— this is what happens with the billionaires in the
- 23:42government, because the co-owner of the dream or the storm,
- 23:46right, kind of fed up with the bullshit because
- 23:50the co-owner of the storm wants the fucking league to succeed.
- 23:54And what you're doing is tanking it. Now all of a sudden there's a
- 23:58conflict of interest here because the difference between the WNBA
- 24:02and the NBA, MLB, NFL, and NHL is
- 24:06they're not— it's not majority conservative.
- 24:10It's not. Those women are not majority conservative.
- 24:13Women stand on fucking business. We're, by the way,
- 24:17actually openly gay, something that the men have not
- 24:21had the fucking— and by the way, this is going to sound like an asshole
- 24:23thing to say— the balls to do. They don't have the balls to fucking do
- 24:25it. Some have. Some have. Yes. And not very many. Yes. And what
- 24:29do we do? We glorify them because it's such a huge step forward. But of—
- 24:33with all the gay men in the NFL and the NBA and the MLB and
- 24:36the NHL, the many, many, many gay men in those leagues, nobody comes
- 24:39out and lives their truth. Fine, I understand the homophobia is brutal. I see it
- 24:42all the time on the— every time I talk about the fact that the gay
- 24:45people— that there are gay people in these leagues. But the
- 24:49women, the soccer players, the fucking gymnasts,
- 24:52the basketball players, they live their fucking truth. It's a fucking problem
- 24:56for these. Let's be real clear, who, who would you say was maybe
- 24:59one of the most prominent female— and I'll go this far—
- 25:03prominent female white athletes of like the last 15 years? Because the one name kind
- 25:07of pops in my head, and, and it's because she is gay and very outspoken
- 25:11that she is Megan Rapinoe. Thank you. Megan Rapinoe. If she
- 25:15was not gay and conservative, you better believe this would
- 25:19have already happened to soccer. This 100%. If she wasn't gay and was conservative
- 25:23and was conservative. Right. And was conservative. I say wasn't. I apologize. No, no,
- 25:26I knew what you were saying. I just want to make sure if she wasn't
- 25:28gay and was and not even conservative, just showed a semblance
- 25:32of that she's conservative, this would have already happened to women's soccer.
- 25:36This already would have happened. Yeah, but it didn't because Megan Rapinoe
- 25:40is who she is. And by the way, I'll never forget it. The amount of
- 25:42outrage because she did this after scoring a huge goal. I will never fucking
- 25:47understand how— how dare she do that? And then
- 25:51they go about everything that Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham is and
- 25:55they're like, oh my God, she's so great. It's so fucking obvious and
- 25:58painful and just sickening. Like, like, are you—
- 26:02honest question about these people. This— if I can really sit down with
- 26:06any of these motherfuckers, both in the sports media industry and just
- 26:09in life, my first question is, are you not exhausted with yourself?
- 26:12Like, do you not like wake up and just feel exhausted that you simply
- 26:16cannot have the same energy for a single fucking thing? You only see the world
- 26:20through one fucking particular lens of your emotion in that particular day.
- 26:23It is It's fucking baffling.
- 26:26Baffling. Yeah. The pieces of shit in this society that
- 26:30want to now ruin sports because you're fucking broken.
- 26:34You ain't breaking my shit. Fuck you. And the thing, the thing that is like
- 26:38really so galling is that like I made a video in January about how
- 26:41the going out, going after trans athletes, saying that you wanted to
- 26:45keep women's sports safe by removing trans girls and women out of sports was a
- 26:49play to go after Title IX because they knew there would be pushback. And when
- 26:52there was pushback, they would be able to say, well, we've got to strip all
- 26:55this down to the bare bones. No more Title IX. Do the same thing they've
- 26:58done with the Voting Rights Act. Do the same thing they've done with Roe v.
- 27:00Wade and say, this isn't working. We got to strip it down. We care about
- 27:03women and girls, but we just can't do this with Title IX. It's allowing trans
- 27:06women and girls to play in sports. So then they will get rid of Title
- 27:09IX. Mark my words, they are going to get rid of Title IX and women's
- 27:12sports will be in the greatest, in the greatest peril
- 27:17that it's been in. In since the inception of youth women's sports
- 27:21and youth girls sports. That's what's going to happen. And this is
- 27:25all sort of being played out in the WNBA where we would
- 27:28love— like, I listen more than anything, I absolutely,
- 27:31and I mean this wholeheartedly, I would love to talk about Olivia Miles.
- 27:35I would love— like, an absolutely stunning rookie who,
- 27:38by the way, swagged out as fuck. She's so cool. So cool and so
- 27:42good. Hot. All the things, by the way. And D-Fish Like, it's so cool coming
- 27:46in the morning with you, Fish, because we both like would love to talk about
- 27:49her because like she's like, she's fucking awesome. She's so fucking awesome.
- 27:52Fucking— in any other world, we would be like, it would be like there
- 27:56was like this perfect alternate universe we got so close to where it was like,
- 27:59man, Asia's so cool. Angel Reese is so fucking cool. Olivia Munn. Like,
- 28:02we have the coolest, by the way, WNBA coolest athletes
- 28:06that we have right now. Like, just sort of like, as far as,
- 28:09as far as— well, no, certainly some of them were not coolest either,
- 28:13but like, as far as just the way that they represent like themselves,
- 28:17it like red carpet style at interviews and like the way
- 28:20that they interact on the internet and like in, in,
- 28:23in social media, just they have a sense of that stuff a lot
- 28:27better than like when was the last time you saw a cool NFL player?
- 28:30I want to make this abundantly clear, and I'm glad you mentioned A'ja Wilson specifically.
- 28:35There is no better basketball player in women's basketball than A'ja Wilson.
- 28:39And it's like, it's like Not even close. Yeah. And well, I mean, like,
- 28:42the closest one is Breanna Stewart. Yeah. And like, it's still— but it's
- 28:45still— yeah, yeah. Such a wide margin.
- 28:49No one knows who— like, like I'm talking about, and I'm over— I may be
- 28:52overexaggerating, but her star power is
- 28:56so low in comparison to even some people in the
- 28:59league she's current. This is a woman that basically the MVP is
- 29:03already— she should be as famous as Serena Williams. She should be as
- 29:06famous as Serena Williams. She should be as famous as, as literally any
- 29:10other like star athlete. She is the best female
- 29:14basketball player alive by such a wide margin.
- 29:18She is not— I mean, she is a footnote and barely
- 29:22a footnote. And I mean— and you mean in national discourse?
- 29:27And to the point, even the national discourse around the WNBA.
- 29:30Yeah, that really is fucking— it's because that shit— actual WNBA
- 29:35fans are completely drowned out. Actual WNBA discourse is drowned out. And I would love
- 29:38to be the change I wish to see in the world. But I have 2
- 29:41options, and I am uniquely suited to
- 29:45calling out bullshit. It is something I have been good at my entire life.
- 29:49I was getting awards for it as a child in writing competitions.
- 29:52Like, I'm not kidding, I've been like this my whole fucking life. This is my
- 29:55lot in life, is to call the bullshit. And I cannot wait to live in
- 29:58a world, even if I have to imagine it, even if it never comes,
- 30:02but I'm gonna desire to live in a world where you and I get to
- 30:05talk about What that— what the, the playoff game between A'ja Wilson and
- 30:10the new young Olivia Miles looked like, what Angel Reese did in a game
- 30:13that, like, what new record she fucking set and then walked off of it
- 30:16like a supermodel to a Victoria's Secret runway show. I would
- 30:20love to be there, but that's not what you and I do. Like,
- 30:23we don't pretend what's happening isn't happening. No. And we aren't WNBA
- 30:28media. We are— we are sports media media. And so that's,
- 30:31that's our lot in life, uh, for now. Well, for now, you gotta understand,
- 30:35like, sports media is not sports media anymore. So we're, we're trying to be because
- 30:38someone's fucking got to do it. No, and I spend a lot of time also
- 30:41trying to engage with, with, like— so what I do, sometimes we can't talk about
- 30:45it the way we might want to talk about it on our show, or I
- 30:47might not be able to do it in my content, but I repost a lot
- 30:49of stuff. I engage with it. I push it. I have a big platform on
- 30:52TikTok, on Instagram, on Threads. So I'm always engaging with it, pushing it, saying,
- 30:55oh my God, I love this fucking highlight or whatever. I engage with it in
- 30:58the ways that I can to use my presence on the internet
- 31:02to, to bring eyeballs to these players that
- 31:06I really like, to these stories that I really like. And so that's something that
- 31:09I think is a great way to use social media if you have any sort
- 31:12of influence, um, which you do. So I have some. I have
- 31:16some. You could build it up though. You want to start? You want to go
- 31:19straight to video? You want to go straight to video? No, no, I'm not against
- 31:21it. It's just, uh, no, I know. No, I've— make no mistake, I've done plenty
- 31:24of social media videos. Yes, I know, I know. I'm obviously kidding.
- 31:28I'm not like Hey, Cody, have you ever heard about the front-facing camera? Yeah,
- 31:32I've done plenty. I've done plenty. Cody, so all you do is you grab a
- 31:35ring light and you hold it out. You just pop it on there. I know
- 31:38you can do it. I'm untrustworthy with this, with this power. No, you actually kind
- 31:41of are right now. I would say maybe wait a week or two. Wait a
- 31:44week, because right now I'm really pissed. You know, when you're— when a company is
- 31:47threatening to sue you. Why don't you do it another time? Oh, by the way,
- 31:51moving on from WNBA to headline number 3,
- 31:55which is sort of the The next biggest story in sports, the whole
- 31:59FIFA disaster. Prior to our show, it came out
- 32:02that Gianni Infantino has backtracked.
- 32:05Oh, backtrack more. Fucking get indicted. Go to prison.
- 32:10Infantino scraps FIFA World Cup sell-off plan after
- 32:13backlash. Resign. Yeah.
- 32:16Widespread backlash, including from within global soccer's governing body
- 32:20and a threatened boycott by European nations. He had proposed spinning
- 32:24off FIFA's commercial businesses, including World Cups and Club
- 32:28World Cups for men and women, into a $20 billion subsidiary with
- 32:3120% owned by private investors. The anchor investor
- 32:35described by FIFA is a New York-based investment firm created by
- 32:39Joshua Kushner. I guess that's going to be a shock to you that
- 32:43it's the younger brother of Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner. But in a statement late Friday,
- 32:47Infantino said the proposal will not proceed. Let's Fucking go!
- 32:51Oh my God, no, not enough, and we are not stopping there.
- 32:56I should say this was requested by my— one of my favorites ever,
- 32:59Black Girls Love Fantasy, she's the best. Uh, Kathy Mashallah,
- 33:03that's K Mash 1967, also one of my great women. And, uh,
- 33:06Eagle Dan FF, they all were like, you guys gotta talk about this. So thank
- 33:10you guys for, um, bringing that to our attention. And this
- 33:13is— this is— it was a— like, the backlash was
- 33:17so loud and so The fact that it was coming from within
- 33:21FIFA, it wasn't just the European Cup, it wasn't just
- 33:25CONCACAF, it wasn't just all these other places. Even Team USA got
- 33:29in on it. Team— you— there— this was— I've never seen a—
- 33:33like, he— you know when you, when you watch someone who
- 33:38is like, it's a— he's a— he's already an asshole, right? He's your buddy,
- 33:42you know he's an asshole. He walks into a bar, he is like a 3
- 33:46a 4 on a good day with clean hair, and he goes up to the
- 33:49hottest woman in a 10-mile square radius and shoots his shot.
- 33:52And you just know, like, bro, why did you even have
- 33:56the fucking balls? Like, you need to know where you stand in
- 33:59the social constructs, in the social hierarchy, before you walk up to somebody
- 34:04who looks like they just walked off of a movie set and they just blow
- 34:07it hard. That's what fucking Infantino just did. He shoot—
- 34:11he shot so fucking far so high that
- 34:15the other billionaires were like, what are you fucking
- 34:19doing? Do you know how hard that is to do in this day and age?
- 34:23To piss off so many people across all of these corrupt-ass
- 34:28nations, corrupt-ass fucking— it's not exactly like the European leagues and CONCACAF
- 34:32and the United States men's team are a bunch of fucking angels themselves.
- 34:36And they were all like, bro, you went too far. That's funny as fuck,
- 34:39Cody. Man, you know what? I almost
- 34:43want to— I almost want to congratulate Infantino for one thing.
- 34:47Just one thing. Just one thing. I'm excited to hear what it is.
- 34:50The pair of balls on this guy is so staggering. And those are some Italian-ass
- 34:54balls. And it's not— it's not that he tried to do this.
- 34:58It's not that he tried to do this. It's that he tried to do this
- 35:02knowing full well that his predecessor got
- 35:06fucking indicted. Can you imagine the balls
- 35:10to do— to try to pull off very shady illegal
- 35:15shit in front of everyone when your predecessor
- 35:19was indicted? Fucking amazing. Just the lack
- 35:23of fucking awareness is just staggering. The delusion is staggering.
- 35:27In today's day and age, you united all
- 35:31of Europe, North and South
- 35:35America against you. Dude, the biggest fuck you
- 35:38given to you by the entire planet. The entire planet
- 35:43said fuck you. Amazing. You should have waited until
- 35:46we were all a little less cohesive. I mean, we were so close. We,
- 35:49we just all bonded during the World Cup. Amazing. Just fucking amazing.
- 35:52Incredible shit. Amazing. I can't believe it's real. I truly,
- 35:56truly— it's almost giving me hope that maybe this
- 36:00world won't end soon. Everybody was like, listen, bro, we have
- 36:04put up with a lot, but what you just proposed is fucking nuts. That's funny
- 36:07as fuck. As somebody who is, uh, deeply culturally and, and, uh,
- 36:11ancestrally Italian-American, and by the way, I will say, and, and the chat going off
- 36:15right now, someone just right away, huh, I, I think Europe had the balls to
- 36:19stand up to him. And then of course, you know, UEFA standing up to him,
- 36:22led to CONCACAF standing up to him. Like, dude, I'll let you in
- 36:26on a little secret. I'll tell you why Europe and South America were so quick.
- 36:30Because Jared Kushner is Trump adjacent and If you
- 36:34look up how many billionaires in the world's list of billionaires
- 36:37live in the United States and their cohorts in the Middle East,
- 36:41it's the majority of billionaires. Yes. You know, that's the
- 36:45fucking problem, right? Is like we— they were like, hold on, this is a
- 36:48US power play. Like, we're not— it is absolutely— it is a UAE and
- 36:51US power play. And that is why— that's where Infantino
- 36:55made a huge mistake. Right? Like, you can't— you don't realize what
- 36:59you're doing. You're not dealing with US billionaires. No, you're dealing with Saudis.
- 37:02And Saudi is— Saudi Arabia has already tried to
- 37:06white— to, to whitewash all the sports. Oh, they— and good news, LIV is
- 37:09dead. They've already fucked up, by the way. The— any Saudis
- 37:12who've bought into Premier League have already made massive mistakes on
- 37:16those teams over there. So, so listen, all that billionaire
- 37:19money that you guys all jumped in— WWE and UFC,
- 37:22same shit— and your fucking companies are dying because
- 37:26of it, and I love it. I love it. Love that your companies are rotting
- 37:30from within, from your fucking heart over. I hope these all die.
- 37:34So we have gotten through, I think, our most
- 37:38difficult topics in terms of how heated we were going to get about them.
- 37:41Yes. Again, props to everybody who suggested
- 37:44these. That shows a lot of integrity on you guys' part that you want to
- 37:48hear these conversations. So we really appreciate you.
- 37:51And it's, it's proof that what we're talking about, people actually fucking care about,
- 37:54Cody. These are important topics and they're— and you're not going to see them talked
- 37:57about very much. You're just not. Not unless— not unless you like, share, and subscribe
- 38:02to The Regulars with Cody Decker and Tonya Rae Fox. We will tell you what's
- 38:05fucking going on. We will. And we'll give you our unfiltered opinions. And some
- 38:09people don't like it. And some people are not going to like
- 38:13what's being reported around the MLB. It's something that we've
- 38:18seen coming. You and I have seen this coming. We've been talking about it since
- 38:20long before this was happening this season. We were talking about it in pitchers
- 38:24and catchers. Logan Saito, S-A-I-T-O, I hope
- 38:28if I'm saying that right, said impending MLB work stoppage
- 38:31and the willingness of fans to blame the players rather than the billionaire owners.
- 38:35Now, I don't know if Logan watched our show, but I was like, oh,
- 38:38you're speaking our language, baby. Logan, if you watch our show, thank you so much
- 38:41because you are speaking our language and you know what's up. And if you don't,
- 38:44you should. I mean, listen, we're your people. I want to make this abundantly clear
- 38:48how this question is framed. Correct. Perfect. Correct. Um, so I will
- 38:52say, uh, Jeff Passan kind of did an, uh, he did his own sort of
- 38:56AMA and he got asked, how do you think the potential
- 39:00for a lockout affects the trade deal, uh, the trade deadline?
- 39:04Will it be way down given the uncertainty of next season?
- 39:08And that's where he dropped the information regarding how some of the owners are
- 39:12feeling about a lockout. He said it's absolutely affecting some teams' approaches.
- 39:15Which you and I again knew. These are owners that believe that there won't
- 39:19be a single game played next season. Not a, not a half a lockout,
- 39:23not anything. A single game. So they're telling their GMs to price
- 39:27that into their trade deliberations. Will it have a significant effect? I won't
- 39:31go that far. But does that possibility exist? Absolutely.
- 39:34Okay, Cody, so the owners are counting on a lockout,
- 39:37which means they have zero fucking intention of not
- 39:41forcing the issue on the salary cap. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Just so you guys
- 39:46know, those of you that might be new to the show, those of you that
- 39:48maybe follow Tonya and are just getting to know me for the first time.
- 39:50Hi, I'm Cody. It's nice to meet you. I'm a little bit of an alcoholic.
- 39:52I'm a former professional baseball player, played for 11 years. I have a very,
- 39:56very specific, very specific viewpoint on Major
- 40:00League Baseball and all the sports because of my history of Major League Baseball.
- 40:03I have 2 months of service time in Major League Baseball. Majority of my
- 40:06time stuck in Triple-A. The dirtiness of the industry. And I want to make this
- 40:10money clear. There's a reason I'm going to go into this real quick. So if
- 40:12you'll allow me. Absolutely. I said this on the show today and I was trying
- 40:16to explain to people why I have a very specific viewpoint, especially when it comes
- 40:19to CBAs and the billionaire owners and the millionaire players that you guys seem to
- 40:23want to demonize for making millions of dollars, even though they're the ones that drive
- 40:26all the profits. They're the ones that actually drive— let's use LeBron James as an
- 40:30example. LeBron James signed a veteran minimum deal.
- 40:33Already $250 million to $400 million is influx into
- 40:36the city of Philadelphia. None of that money goes to LeBron James. Now, I'm not
- 40:40saying LeBron James needs that money, but he is the cause of that influx of
- 40:43money, period. Stop. He is not going to be compensated for such. What you're saying
- 40:46is LeBron James is an economy in and of himself. Yes. And he
- 40:50is not going— now, he doesn't need to be because he's already a billionaire due
- 40:53to all of his outside things along with his basketball work. But let's
- 40:57be abundantly clear, that is only LeBron James single-handedly
- 41:01creating a brand new economy in Philadelphia. He is single-handedly,
- 41:05just by signing one contract, has changed the entire outlook of
- 41:09an entire city. A major US city, by the way. A major US city.
- 41:12Not Springfield, Missouri. A major fucking— the Liberty Bell is
- 41:16fucking there. So that being said, I want to make it abundantly
- 41:20clear who drives the money. It is not the owners. It is not the organizations.
- 41:24It is specifically the players that come there. You don't buy a jersey without a
- 41:27name on the back. You buy your favorite player's jersey. That is fact. Now,
- 41:31those of you that are just really big on just only your team, that's adorable
- 41:34and fucking weird. But I gotta stress, I can't stress this enough, the players are
- 41:38what drive fucking everything. Without the players, there is no fucking sport.
- 41:43If that's the case, go watch a video game. Do not— do a lot of
- 41:46you go ahead and just turn on the video game to remote mode and just
- 41:48sit back and watch a video game? No, because it's not fucking real,
- 41:52and we still need a semblance of reality in our professional sports,
- 41:55right? Now, take you back to my, my thing. I made
- 41:59it to the big leagues after 7 years in the minor leagues. I was drafted
- 42:03as a senior sign out of UCLA. When you were drafted as a senior
- 42:06out of college, they tell you straight up you don't
- 42:10have a bargaining chip for this upcoming draft. So no matter if you—
- 42:14if I was drafted first overall, like first pick,
- 42:18I would be paid $1,000 in my signing bonus no matter what.
- 42:22I have nothing to come back with because I don't have the bargaining
- 42:25chip of my junior year saying, I'll just go back to college, you got to
- 42:28buy me out of that. They're saying basically, no, no, we own your rights for
- 42:32the next year because we drafted you, so you can't play anywhere
- 42:36unless you sign this contract. I can maybe go to independent ball, I could
- 42:39try to sign overseas, but that doesn't exist out of college. What happens
- 42:43when they do the like dual— when they sign like, uh, the Tom Bradys and
- 42:47Kyler degrees and like then they just go play football. They can do whatever they
- 42:50want as long as they're not playing baseball. Okay, they can't do— because there are
- 42:54no other real professional baseball leagues in the country. So I could sign to like
- 42:57a Pioneer League and get paid 35 cents and kind of— but here's
- 43:01the thing, during my— that my time in minor league baseball— now you have to
- 43:04understand this— in from the 1970s till 2012,
- 43:08there was not a single pay increase in minor league baseball. The inflation
- 43:12rate actually in my— 1990s to 2012. Oh, I'm sorry, sorry. No,
- 43:15no. 1972 to 1970s. Yes.
- 43:18So in— so it's sort of like the minimum wage just never going up.
- 43:21So in 40 years, the inflation rate for minor league pay was
- 43:26-70%. Oh, good. Inflation in the United States was 400%.
- 43:30So I didn't see a comma in my paycheck. So AAA
- 43:34players in the 1970s were pretty well paid, is what you're saying? Players made
- 43:38exactly the same dollar figure I made In 2015,
- 43:44which is— would have been great in the 1970s. Yes.
- 43:46$1,030 every 2 weeks probably
- 43:50would have been okay. That would have afforded you a house in the 1970s.
- 43:52In 1975. It affords you nothing now. I couldn't
- 43:57pay rent. I lived out of my 2005 Honda Element while I was
- 44:01stuck in Triple-A. I hit 150 home runs before I even got to the big
- 44:04leagues. I was stuck. They made it abundantly clear there was no financial investment in
- 44:07me. And what I needed to do was I needed everyone to die.
- 44:10For me to get called up to the big leagues, which you're not going to
- 44:13wish upon people. Maybe a couple though. And then when I got called to the
- 44:15big leagues, I wasn't played. I wasn't played at all. I got 10 at-bats.
- 44:18They were all pinch-hit at-bats. I never pinch-hit in my entire fucking career.
- 44:21And now, Decker, go face Aroldis Chapman in the 9th inning. You haven't had an
- 44:25at-bat in fucking 4 weeks. Well, good luck. And now I'm labeled in my career
- 44:29that I couldn't cut it in the big leagues, even though I got one start
- 44:31and never got an opportunity to actually play fucking baseball. Part of that
- 44:35I do attribute to certain people. Pat Murphy, and other people
- 44:39as well. That being said, there's a lot of interesting aspects around it. But my
- 44:43perspective of that is when the league is not subject to antitrust
- 44:47laws like Major League Baseball, NFL, NBA, when the league has total
- 44:51control of the finances of their, say, subjects, which they did
- 44:55for minor league baseball because minor league baseball up until just about 2 years
- 44:59ago was not even remotely even adjacent to the Major
- 45:03League Baseball Players Association. There was no protection for a single minor league baseball player,
- 45:07period. That's why they were able to get away with paying us very,
- 45:10very illegal wages. That's why there was nothing we could do. We couldn't
- 45:15sue. I couldn't seek other employment. I couldn't even— I asked for my
- 45:18release almost on a weekly basis while I was with the Padres for 7 years,
- 45:22and they made it abundantly clear they weren't going to release me.
- 45:25This is a dirty, dirty business. If you allow owners
- 45:29to get anything They will take miles
- 45:32and miles and miles. For instance, destroy baseball. The salary
- 45:36cap will destroy baseball. The minor leagues will be dead.
- 45:39They're going to try and pretend that the, uh, that the college
- 45:43level is, is minor league baseball. College baseball and Major League Baseball are
- 45:47so fucking not even related. I don't know what to tell you. Do you think
- 45:50that the, the minor leagues would fold essentially? Yes. So, all right,
- 45:53so this is— there might be like one level. This protect— this this prediction,
- 45:57maybe we have— maybe we keep Triple-A, maybe we keep Single-A, whatever.
- 46:01We lose at least 2 levels of the— of
- 46:05baseball. We would cut out thousands of professional players' jobs,
- 46:09thousands of jobs that work at stadiums, front office jobs,
- 46:13full city economies. Right. You remove
- 46:16baseball teams from places like Toledo, like,
- 46:20that don't have professional sports. Where they are genuinely
- 46:24at the center of not only the economy but fucking
- 46:28community. Yes, I realize that everybody thinks that
- 46:32like AAA and single-A and double-A, oh, nobody fucking cares. No, that's not fucking true.
- 46:36That's not true at all. There are massive like,
- 46:39like communities built around these fandoms, just like they are with smaller colleges
- 46:43and places in the middle. Like, there's fucking people who love Gonzaga, and I still
- 46:47don't know where Gonzaga is. I have no idea. I've yet to meet a single
- 46:49human being that has even seen the school, you know, right? So it's the same
- 46:51thing with the Mudhens. That's a big fucking deal. So we're talking about eliminating
- 46:56potentially all of single, double, AAA, and maybe, maybe you
- 47:00keep one level. And then on top of that, you start commodifying
- 47:04college baseball even more. We— you and I both fucking
- 47:08know those players are gonna get fucked financially, uh,
- 47:11because all their school's money is— money, if it exists,
- 47:15is going to the football program or the basketball program.
- 47:20That, by the way, then what money does start going to baseball will
- 47:23fuck women's sports. So there is— like,
- 47:26when we tell you that there is a trickle-down effect that destroys
- 47:31an entire fucking sport in this country, it is not
- 47:35actually hyperbole. No, this is— we're— I don't think you
- 47:39guys get where this is going. This is a dystopian sports future we're going
- 47:43to. And I'm not— this is not hyperbolic. We've lived through what
- 47:47the best of what we're ever like. We are, we are going in a direction
- 47:50where billionaires are going to make everything and the prices for you to
- 47:54go to games are going to be astronomical. And they've convinced you the prices
- 47:58that you pay is because of the players making money. They have legitimately convinced you
- 48:02of it. And it's, it's really one— meanwhile, fucking gross
- 48:06and sad. Meanwhile, you just pointed out LeBron. Shohei has had the same effect.
- 48:10These are players that quite literally on their own
- 48:14have created entire economies. And you're saying they're the people
- 48:17costing players, the fans money?
- 48:20Yep. Come on now. I don't know what to say other than this is a
- 48:24real fucking problem. So those of you that think a salary cap is going to
- 48:27help baseball, no, it's the first step to fucking
- 48:3010 more steps. It's going to not only destroy
- 48:35baseball just as fast as the WNBA was fucking ruined like that.
- 48:38It'll be— I mean, it'll be faster. It's— I, I just don't know why you—
- 48:42why people don't get this. And I'm gonna say it again. I'm gonna say it
- 48:45again because I'm saying it all the time, and I am also saying it on
- 48:48my fucking Fan LA show. Yeah, the difference between 1 million
- 48:52and 1 billion. Let's do the quick math.
- 48:561 million seconds, Tanya, do you remember?
- 48:59Uh, 11.7 days. Yeah.
- 49:04A billion seconds. Tanya, do you remember?
- 49:0931.7 years.
- 49:131 billion. So again, for visual
- 49:17aspect, here, here, Mo, go to the, go to the widescreen, go to the widescreen.
- 49:20This is a widescreen shot. This is a widescreen shot for full
- 49:23transparency. Tanya has $1 billion.
- 49:27Cody has $1 million. How much more money does Tanya
- 49:31have than Cody? A billion fucking dollars.
- 49:37You can go back to the 2-screen. So, uh,
- 49:40that's, that's where we're gonna leave that conversation. And by the way, we'll revisit
- 49:44it probably once a week, if not more, for the foreseeable future because
- 49:48baseball is not happening next year. I firmly believe there's not going to be a
- 49:51season. No, by the way, like, I really meant it when I said the fact
- 49:55that, that owners are already preparing for not a single game. I'm gonna go a
- 49:58step further. That, that's, that is a, that's an admission that
- 50:01they have no plans to cave. And you strongly
- 50:06believe that we are at this point with the MLB Players Association
- 50:10in a spot where they're not going to give a salary cap. They fucking better
- 50:13not. Right. But you feel pretty good about where it's at right now. So if
- 50:17neither one is going to cave, that means the owners definitely aren't.
- 50:20And by the way, just a quick reminder before we hop out of this topic,
- 50:23the salary caps never existed. In baseball? Nope.
- 50:27So the owners are going to go
- 50:32to a lockout where no games are played because the players
- 50:35won't give them something that's never existed in 150 years
- 50:39of this professional sport. Interesting choice. And I want you guys to really pay attention
- 50:44to the talking points. These are going to be the talking points and they're already
- 50:46there. They're already right there. So please
- 50:49pay attention to the talking points. The talking points are the
- 50:53players are greedy. Get ready for that. The players' greed is what's killing the game.
- 50:56You're going to say baseball can't survive to pay the players this much money,
- 51:00which is just the most insane thing ever said out loud
- 51:04because they have not yet to speak. When they tell you these things, they don't
- 51:07give you an ounce of data. That's a problem, don't you think? It's just—
- 51:10trust me, bro. Rob Manfred, you— I actually, I want to make this abundantly
- 51:15clear. I actually personally like Rob Manfred. Manfred, like personally, like every
- 51:19time I've been around him personally, every time I've been around Rob, it's been so
- 51:21cordial. He's actually been very lovely towards me and other people.
- 51:25Most friendly of the commissioners. But Rob
- 51:30Manfred has a job to do. Rob Manfred's job is not to safeguard
- 51:34Major League Baseball. Rob Manfred's job very clearly is to be
- 51:37a union head chief for the billionaire owners. That is the
- 51:41job of Major League Baseball commissioner. Not safeguard
- 51:44the game. I need you guys to understand that first
- 51:48and foremost. So when I say this, I'm not saying this is hyperbole.
- 51:52I mean this. Your choices are the following: we're going
- 51:56to lose one season of Major League Baseball because I do think that is the
- 52:00plan for the owners. Their plan is to cut out a year of the game
- 52:03so they can make long-term profits for years and years to come. I will gladly
- 52:08give up a year of baseball. Gladly to make sure that they don't get what
- 52:12they want. By the way, we get— and the thing about giving up a year
- 52:14of baseball is it gives us a year to talk about baseball every fucking day.
- 52:17Don't worry about— we— no, we still talk about baseball.
- 52:21You guys locking us out of baseball. I'm going to be here telling you
- 52:25why this is happening because it's not— you know what, that frees the players up
- 52:28to get on a microphone. Dude, I want them on my shows. I want them
- 52:31on this. I want them on— I'd love to give them a mic. Bryce Harper,
- 52:34when this happens, come on over, buddy. Because I'm with you all 100%. I have
- 52:37the shit that's happened with Bryce this week, by the way. Yeah, fucking real gross.
- 52:40I actually— it's getting fucking awful. Yeah, like it's really
- 52:44bad. We got Don Mattingly. Let's change your name. You're no longer
- 52:47Donnie Baseball. You're Donnie Front Office. That's what the words you've said this week have
- 52:51made me like. I've met— I've always been a fan of Don Mattingly.
- 52:55I'm not right now because Donnie Baseball is shilling out and
- 52:59shucking for everyone he can, specifically He's the interim manager right now
- 53:02of the Philadelphia Phillies. And then he makes that statement after Bryce Harper,
- 53:06oh, had the audacity to say that we need help in Philadelphia. No shit,
- 53:09you need help. You've lost like 8 games in a row. By the way,
- 53:13since when are superstars like Bryce
- 53:16Harper not allowed to say what he said? I don't know. When did we get
- 53:21to the point— I am fucking baffled— where these front office dudes, Buster Posey,
- 53:24Don Mattingly, these motherfuckers shut the fuck up.
- 53:28Don Mattingly did not watch the game. Donnie front office. Yeah,
- 53:31Donnie. Front office is currently the fucking,
- 53:34the fucking interim manager of a team that his son is the GM
- 53:39for. You don't think that is a bit of a fucking conflict
- 53:43of fucking interest? You don't think— oh God, God forbid,
- 53:47God forbid that your star player, your star player
- 53:50says, yes, we can use help. He even says, I even brought my outfielders mid
- 53:53if we— in case we get a first baseman, I need to move the outfield.
- 53:55So he even put himself kind of on the list that he needs to make
- 53:58an adjustment. So I have no issue with what he said, but I have a
- 54:02lot of issue of you saying out loud, well, it's not his money.
- 54:05It's not yours either, Donnie. Playing that game, Donnie,
- 54:10it made me so disappointed in you. I, I,
- 54:13I've never been more disappointed in a guy I rooted for for years because you
- 54:16were a player. You're not one anymore, and you don't have your team's
- 54:20back. You have your front office's back. You're not my manager, and I wouldn't like
- 54:23to play for you. And I don't have to because I never played baseball.
- 54:26Uh, okay, we're gonna go over to, uh, do you
- 54:30want to talk about like ball? You want to just like talk a little ball
- 54:33real quick? Let's talk a little ball, man. Let's talk a little bit of ball.
- 54:35Um, we are in NFL preseason. I'm incredibly happy. I'm not letting anyone rain on
- 54:39my parade. I just need a little bit of football in my life. I'm really
- 54:41excited about that. And for some reason, um, we had multiple requests
- 54:45both from MK Guilford and KidIcon24. You guys have
- 54:49great taste. You guys know what I'm— you know, this is partially probably because I,
- 54:52I always talk about NFL shit and quarterback stuff. So they want to talk about
- 54:56the QB battle in Minnesota and kind of both specifically
- 55:00what's going on with just like the general
- 55:04Kyler Murray and JJ McCarthy of it all, but also why
- 55:09the actual narratives around these 2 exist so differently.
- 55:13Now, this is actually a topic you and I have done before, you know,
- 55:17like this. They're just sort of reading our minds. But let's,
- 55:21let's, let's kind of revisit where we're at with this.
- 55:25We'll run through the standard operating procedure of the fact
- 55:29that currently the quarterback battle, battle in Minnesota,
- 55:32which again, this is a team that has been very good for the last couple
- 55:35of seasons or and then they
- 55:39were really good, took a nosedive last year with quarterback issues. So they acquire
- 55:44Kyler Murray from the Cardinals and they have their 3rd year former 1st round pick
- 55:47JJ McCarthy underway as as their, their 2
- 55:51quarterbacks on the docket. You and I said months ago, this is a
- 55:54fucking joke. Let's not pretend this is a quarterback battle. It's not even close.
- 55:58Kyler Murray is head, shoulders, knees and toes above
- 56:02JJ McCarthy in every single way. They haven't announced it yet.
- 56:05Now, I would be, by the way, I would be so fucking shocked
- 56:09that they were playing this shit if at the same time people were pretending
- 56:13that Deshaun Watson can still be an NFL quarterback
- 56:17when people are reporting out of the Cleveland Browns that he
- 56:22had one of the worst training camp debuts that they have ever seen in
- 56:26the history of quarterbacking. He literally
- 56:29can't quarterback anymore and they're making Shedeur Sanders compete
- 56:33with him. So that's where we're at in quarterback battles. I want to make this—
- 56:37let's start with— let's start with the Browns. Play Deshaun Watson.
- 56:41Play him every day. I want to see it. I want— I want— I want
- 56:45to see him I want to see this go as
- 56:49bad as I know. I think I might be now.
- 56:52Shedeur's been so disrespected at this point that like, what's another like week
- 56:56or two to finally get people off his back? Throw him out there. Because you're
- 56:59right, if we, if we got to see, have the pleasure of watching Deshaun
- 57:03Jackson, uh, Deshaun Watson— sorry, Deshaun Jackson. Yeah,
- 57:07you don't deserve that. I'm so sorry. That's not okay. We apologize. We love you.
- 57:10You're great. All right. Cal Poly. Sean Watson,
- 57:13uh, shit his pants on national
- 57:17television for that bullshit organization. At what
- 57:21point do we finally— if there is a chance for us to get people off
- 57:25of Shedeur's back, that's the way to do it. And we get to see a,
- 57:28uh, a sexual assaulter embarrassed on national television. It's a win-win.
- 57:32I love it. So I love that. I know. I, I, I want the Browns
- 57:36to be Fucking tarred and feathered. So weekly.
- 57:39So I want them to be so embarrassed by this. I want— I want
- 57:44this the thing to be that breaks the fucking Haslam. I want it to be.
- 57:47Yes. And that is the— that is where quarterback battle discourse is
- 57:50sort of at right now at its worst. Now, I have higher expectations of the
- 57:54Vikings, by the way. One of the better organizations, one of the better owners,
- 57:56and one of the better coaches in the league who's got— whose ass is firmly
- 58:00on the hot seat right now. So which is crazy to me. Crazy to me
- 58:03too. That's fucking insane how this game goes. Man, it's insane.
- 58:06But for a, for a, for a white Sean McVay guy, those guys— Zach Taylor's
- 58:10been at it for fucking years. No, no, you're definitely right. But like, you know
- 58:13how this thing goes. Joe Burrow. Um, so you and I are on record.
- 58:17We were staying on record. There's no way, shape, or form. There's no world.
- 58:21There's no actually like— there's no different Earth in a multiverse where
- 58:25Kyler Murray isn't the better quarterback. Regardless, I don't care
- 58:28what happened. There's just nothing that could be done. There's nothing that JJ
- 58:33McCarthy could do He is not the— this is not Sam Darnold.
- 58:36This is not even Baker Mayfield. This is not a guy who everybody saw in
- 58:39college and thought, holy fucking shit, this guy's the next thing. This is
- 58:43JJ McCarthy, who was not the best 1,
- 58:482, 3 players on his own offense on that national championship team. It's Kyler
- 58:53Murray, who in college was one of the greatest fucking
- 58:56passers of the ball and runners we've ever seen. Now, granted, we are
- 59:00a long way from college for both of these players at this point, but Kyler
- 59:04Murray has done shit in the end in the NFL that we have seen that,
- 59:07that J.J. McCarthy couldn't dream up. He couldn't do in Madden
- 59:11with Kyler Murray playing as Kyler Murray. So let's
- 59:15just— that's our fucking shit right there. It's not happening. Fuck everybody.
- 59:18Fuck all of this. And luckily, I do trust KOC
- 59:22to not be a dumbass. He's going to want to start Kyler Murray. The,
- 59:25the advantage that J.J. McCarthy has— this is the only advantage—
- 59:30is literally just that he knows the offense. That's it. And knows
- 59:33the offense, knows the offense is
- 59:37doing a lot of heavy lifting for what I think is going on with J.J.
- 59:39McCarthy, which is that he's actually in some way, shape, or form operated in it
- 59:43before. Kyler Murray is taking— it's taking a little bit longer. He's running a complex
- 59:47Kevin O'Connell offense. Yeah, fine. Not worried about it.
- 59:52The favorite to win the job among NFL national
- 59:56analysts. Elite raw talent. Everything that we need to see.
- 1:00:00There's already— they're working on deep ball timing
- 1:00:04with Jordan Addison and Justin Jefferson, which, hey, by the way, would love
- 1:00:08to point out there is no deep ball with just with JJ McCarthy. You can't
- 1:00:12even work on the timing because the deep ball doesn't exist. There's no deep
- 1:00:16ball timing with fucking JJ McCarthy to Justin Jefferson or Jordan Addison because
- 1:00:20it's— he's not capable of it. Right there, you've just admitted that you know who
- 1:00:24the fuck can run your offense and he's just working on timing with new wide
- 1:00:28receivers. So I don't mean to be a big old buzzkill about
- 1:00:31weighing in on this other than to say the reason JJ McCarthy
- 1:00:35gets more fucking grace is because he's white. It's what it
- 1:00:39always is. He's a good old boy white dude and he's probably
- 1:00:42conservative adjacent. Or outright MAGA. And Kyler
- 1:00:47Murray, I don't know if you guys noticed, isn't. So he
- 1:00:51does get the benefit of having played in Arizona where people forget that there's
- 1:00:56a football team for a while. Now he's in a place where they talk about
- 1:00:58football. I'm excited to see it. And I would like to see Kyler Murray start,
- 1:01:02stay healthy, and never have to hear J.J. McCarthy's name ever again.
- 1:01:06The fact that this is even a conversation is baffling to
- 1:01:10me. Um, Kyler Murray is the better
- 1:01:14quarterback. Kyler Murray is going to be very good. The Vikings are going to be
- 1:01:17very good. And how about this? Let's just, let's just boil this down very
- 1:01:21simply. Okay. Justin Jefferson's very important over there,
- 1:01:25right? He's pretty important everywhere. Pretty important. But, but in Minnesota right now, pretty important,
- 1:01:29right? Of course. Yeah, pretty important. Makes a lot of money. Yeah. Probably the best
- 1:01:32all-around receiver in the game, probably. Oh yeah, Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison are a
- 1:01:36like top 3 wide receiver pair. Yeah. So, you know, who does he want
- 1:01:40throwing the ball to him? Uh-huh. Question answered.
- 1:01:44Kyler Murray is your quarterback. I can't believe we're even talking about this. And by
- 1:01:48the way, if you're an offensive lineman, who do you want behind you?
- 1:01:51The guy who can, who can run around like Kyler
- 1:01:56Murray or the absolute fucking moron?
- 1:01:59I'm sorry. I can go on forever. Slow down. Cigar store Indian
- 1:02:03is probably the way to describe it. You can. I'm just going to call him
- 1:02:06a fucking moron. Well, I don't know if he's dumb. Oh, no, he is.
- 1:02:09We saw that was the whole— No, he probably is. I just don't know.
- 1:02:12I've never really heard him talk. Well, I have. Well, listen, here's the thing.
- 1:02:16He said he's in the NFL, so my hopes are not through the roof.
- 1:02:19And that, by the way, it's not a knock on the NFL. I would say
- 1:02:22the same thing about the MLB. Trust me, I played with a lot of baseball
- 1:02:25players. They're dumber than shit. I'm just telling you, J.J. McCarthy is next level
- 1:02:29idiot. Jesus. Media Corner.
- 1:02:33Media Corner. I know. I really didn't know.
- 1:02:38I never heard him. I never heard him talk. Yeah. No, I mean, I mean,
- 1:02:40I'm not a slanderer. No, no, I believe you. I just— I've never heard it.
- 1:02:44I fully believe it. There's not a universe where I think he's intelligent. So let's
- 1:02:47slow down. There's like 4 intelligent quarterbacks. So Kyler Murray has been
- 1:02:51accused of being an idiot because he— yeah,
- 1:02:55because he won't watch film. Yeah, right, right. Of being like, not whatever. Um,
- 1:02:59perfectly, perfectly capable of talking on a mic since he's been in Minnesota.
- 1:03:03Yeah, so it— but J.J. McCarthy, there's no way— others—
- 1:03:07oh yeah, no, that's what I'm saying. He's— we know what's— what was going on
- 1:03:10in Arizona. It was bullshit. It's the single worst organization in football. Kyler Murray wasn't
- 1:03:14being set up for success and he didn't want to get on a mic.
- 1:03:16He didn't care. You know what, he probably should have cared, but he didn't.
- 1:03:18And at this point, I don't blame— like, these owners suck.
- 1:03:20Um, our first media corner is going to be a real quick hitter. Quite honestly,
- 1:03:24let's do it, because I'm going to fill you in a little bit on what
- 1:03:27people have been saying about our Kyle Shanahan coverage of the Kyle Shanahan story.
- 1:03:31Talk to me. We talked about the car crash and
- 1:03:35the inevitable realization,
- 1:03:38or I guess like the final straw that we had where it was like,
- 1:03:41I mean, we've known this for a while now that, that these networks and reporters
- 1:03:45are all working sort of colluding with each other to either protect or expose
- 1:03:48players, coaches, whoever else, depending on, you know, what the directives are from
- 1:03:52the NFL specifically. Specifically, that was made very clear by this story. Yes, it was.
- 1:03:56Sports media. Our takeaway from this is they finally said out
- 1:04:00loud that sports media is not sports media. Sports media is— Adam Schefter pretended
- 1:04:04he didn't know that Kyle Shanahan had broken several bones in his body and had
- 1:04:0740 stitches in his face. You know, like a liar would say. Right. So a
- 1:04:12lot of, a lot of people understood exactly what our point was. I would say
- 1:04:15more people did than didn't. A lot of people pushed back and said,
- 1:04:19why do we all care that this guy's in a car crash? Why do we
- 1:04:23need to know? What— who cares? Can't we just, you know, uh,
- 1:04:26handle people privately? Whatever. So, um,
- 1:04:30Weston— I want to get this right— Weston Hadrich said,
- 1:04:33why is that Shanahan accident so weird? I can't figure
- 1:04:37it out. And he wasn't being sarcastic, he's just like, what's going on with this
- 1:04:40story? And I wanted to point out that a lot of the reaction to our
- 1:04:43story is, is exposing why it's so weird.
- 1:04:47It's weird because There are continuing to be
- 1:04:51more things revealed about what we didn't know about
- 1:04:55the crash. And it's still not coming from the media. Math ain't mathing.
- 1:04:59It's coming. By the way, Kyle Shanahan came out himself
- 1:05:03and said, hey, the police report is wrong. He contradicted
- 1:05:07the police report and he said, actually, the accident
- 1:05:12was my fault. Now, the media hadn't reported that.
- 1:05:16The police hadn't reported that. Kyle Shanahan sees that
- 1:05:19the other driver is getting blamed. This, like, I think,
- 1:05:22like, teenage girl, 19-year-old girl, something like that, is getting blamed. He's like, actually,
- 1:05:26it was me. So he then
- 1:05:30completely exposed the police and the media covering
- 1:05:34up for him. So, Weston, why does it feel weird?
- 1:05:38Because it's fucking weird. It's weird.
- 1:05:41Because it's a cover-up of sense.
- 1:05:45We don't know exactly what happened. Now, my thought
- 1:05:49process— and this is just my read based on what Kyle Shanahan put out there—
- 1:05:52my thought process is simply Kyle Shanahan, basically his morality
- 1:05:56kind of took over a little bit and probably saw that this— somehow this person
- 1:06:00who was in the accident was getting blamed. By the way, people are not a
- 1:06:02monolith. Kyle Shanahan could have been doing something stupid in that car and still also
- 1:06:05not love that someone's getting blamed for something he did. Yeah, people can
- 1:06:09be complex. Like, let's be real clear, like, I don't know what happened with Kyle
- 1:06:12Shanahan that night. And you know what's funny about that? Neither do you. You know
- 1:06:15what's funny about that? That's fucking weird. That's fucking weird. We didn't know
- 1:06:19about it for weeks. Fucking weird. And now every part— thing is
- 1:06:23being contradicted by the people involved. The police misfiled
- 1:06:27the report. Guys, this should be number
- 1:06:31one national news everywhere. You guys treated Diana Rossini
- 1:06:34and Mike Vrabel as if this was the fucking thing that's killing the fucking world.
- 1:06:39What fucking planet are you people on?
- 1:06:42What fucking planet are you people on? Have I fucking— am I taking crazy
- 1:06:46pills? I have no idea if there's anything wrong
- 1:06:50that happened. But you know what the problem is? I don't have any idea
- 1:06:54what the fuck happened, and neither do you. And people do know,
- 1:06:58and they're not talking. And fuck Adam Schefter.
- 1:07:01Fuck Adam Schefter. Fuck that.
- 1:07:04We should get rid of the Curt Schilling thing and just say fuck Adam Schefter
- 1:07:07every show. You fucking, fucking miserable, worthless waste of
- 1:07:11space. The fact that you are playing dumb, oh,
- 1:07:16makes me so sick. I'm gonna make a shirt that just says, dear Mr.
- 1:07:19Editor, and wear it on every fucking show I'm on from now on. And by
- 1:07:23the way, I, I, and my guess is that the majority of people saying this,
- 1:07:26like, who cares about is probably 49ers fans, because I've gone on record as
- 1:07:30saying the 49ers have one of the worst fan bases in sports, and I stand
- 1:07:33by it. I have great 49ers friends, but the fan base blows. The reality
- 1:07:37is we heard about Eric Bieniemy, the offensive— within
- 1:07:41hours, okay, the offensive coordinator
- 1:07:46of the— not the head coach, the offensive coordinator's wife
- 1:07:50was shot. We heard about it Within hours.
- 1:07:53Within hours, we knew who the suspect was. We knew everything about
- 1:07:57it. Interesting. Hours. Okay, now we're talking about someone— a near-death experience.
- 1:08:02Kyle Shanahan has a near-death experience. One's the wife of
- 1:08:06an offensive coordinator. One's a head coach who's coached in 3 Super Bowls.
- 1:08:09Okay, fine. We hear about Kyler Murray
- 1:08:14having a weird thing in his contract about video games within days of it
- 1:08:18happening. We hear about Lamar Jackson,
- 1:08:23like completely made up shit. We hear about Jalen
- 1:08:27Hurts is a tough teammate to play with from a lot of anonymous sources.
- 1:08:31We heard, we heard that Shedeur wore headphones.
- 1:08:35Now these are all anonymous, anonymous. They are just leaking
- 1:08:39this information out. We need— they are just— they can't
- 1:08:42keep the information in. The leaks are leaking everywhere. How are we ever going
- 1:08:46to keep information in? So when And you ask us, why would we need
- 1:08:50to know about a car crash? Because we are operating
- 1:08:54under the existing context of
- 1:08:57media where nothing exists outside
- 1:09:02of the leak, the leak economy.
- 1:09:06You— do I care that Kyle Shanahan got in a car crash?
- 1:09:11Not on its face. Face. Do I care that a
- 1:09:15head coach might miss the beginning of training camp because he's injured that
- 1:09:19badly? Yes. Do I think that that affects football operations?
- 1:09:23As somebody in NFL media, do I care about that? Yes. Do I think
- 1:09:27that if there is potential criminality at play, that's something
- 1:09:31we need to know about, considering we should know that about people making
- 1:09:34gajillions of dollars on our televisions? Yes. I'm not playing
- 1:09:39this game with you fucking assholes. I'm not playing this, this let's
- 1:09:42play dumb bullshit. Of course we care.
- 1:09:46And by the way, if we're gonna not care, I need you to shut the
- 1:09:49fuck up about literally everything else that is ever reported out
- 1:09:53of NFL media in a timely 1 to 2 hour to
- 1:09:571 to 2 day fashion for the rest of fucking time. And you definitely,
- 1:10:01if you ever said a goddamn thing about Diana
- 1:10:04Rossini potentially having a sexual relationship with a head
- 1:10:08coach, as, as potentially ending sports media,
- 1:10:12but you don't think it's a problem that ESPN coordinated with the
- 1:10:1649ers, the NFL, and Mike Kyle Shanahan
- 1:10:20and the police potentially— and the police potentially, by the way, very likely—
- 1:10:24to, to release this information nearly 2 weeks after it happened?
- 1:10:29I have news for you. We clocked your shit 4 months ago when this other
- 1:10:33fucking shit broke. We called this Go back,
- 1:10:36go look at the shit. We have it on fucking record. We told you you
- 1:10:39were a bunch of hypocrites who didn't actually care about reporting, and you're proving it
- 1:10:43in our comments. So thank you, Weston, for the fucking question. You can't figure
- 1:10:47it out because it's fucking weird. Yeah, I, I, I— the fact— how about
- 1:10:51this? We don't know when Kyle Shanahan's coming back. We, we do not know.
- 1:10:55There's no return date. By the way, the 49ers were like, he's not going to
- 1:10:58be there for training camp, but everything's fine. Totally fucking Totally normal. By the way,
- 1:11:02totally normal. Just this team is a perennial contender.
- 1:11:06This team is a perennial contender. Totally normal. And they are acting like 40
- 1:11:10stitches in the face, broken hand, broken rib, broken fucking— like they're trying
- 1:11:14to tell you he has a fucking cold. They— well, they said he has a
- 1:11:18severe concussion, which I believe he has a severe concussion.
- 1:11:21They're acting like that's the worst thing that happened to him. I'm thinking that the
- 1:11:24severe concussion is why he told the truth about the accident. And maybe that is
- 1:11:28the truth. Truth. And, and the thing is,
- 1:11:31why are you— if, if this happened to anybody else,
- 1:11:34we'd be wondering if they're going to be able to start the season. Why?
- 1:11:37Like, it's so stupid. So by the way, Megan in our chat,
- 1:11:41and yeah, elephant in the room, everyone that we— every
- 1:11:45person that we've mentioned outside of Shanahan was Black.
- 1:11:48That is true. Can you believe it? I fucking
- 1:11:52can't believe it. What are the fucking odds? Can't believe Yeah, can't believe it.
- 1:11:55Can't believe it. Know everything about what a bad teammate Jalen Hurts is, but nope.
- 1:11:59Near-death experience for Kyle Shanahan. Now it's all good. It's a cold. He's fine.
- 1:12:03All right. So what we're going to do is we're going to go to the
- 1:12:06most positive story on our timeline because we have unsurprisingly run
- 1:12:10long on these topics. No way. And I know,
- 1:12:13right? That never happens to us.
- 1:12:16This was a really good one and it's a positive way to close out the
- 1:12:19show. I wanted to— I wanted to yell about WWE and media. Well,
- 1:12:24we might be able to get to it if we're able. Let's see. Let's see.
- 1:12:27So because everyone's saying Crash Out Cody is their favorite Cody. Oh, well, listen.
- 1:12:31And so, okay, so we'll see. But we have to get some positive news.
- 1:12:34Yes, we do. Yes, it was requested by a very good follower. Let's hear it.
- 1:12:37So John Winning 84, who's super supportive all the time, he said, I'd love
- 1:12:41to get some old school sports talk. Let's do it. That speaks positively about players.
- 1:12:45I want to hear what positives could, you know, Justin Fields bring to the Chiefs
- 1:12:49or the rising star of AZ FUD or These kinds of things. Um, you know,
- 1:12:53he talked about the Minnesota Vixen winning a national championship, which I think is so
- 1:12:57cute. Like, this is a person who really fucking cares and loves sports, and I
- 1:13:00love that. I love that there are people who follow us who are like,
- 1:13:03hey, for whatever reason I connect with your stuff and I actually love sports.
- 1:13:06That says a lot about us. So my question that
- 1:13:10I figured, you know, those are some people that he loves talking about, but he
- 1:13:13just wants to hear positivity and ball knowledge. Let's pick a couple of athletes that
- 1:13:16we're vibing with right now and And just fucking talk about some people that
- 1:13:20are, that are making us like sports. Oh, you know, let me, let me start
- 1:13:22with one. Yeah. And there's a little bit of this, so I apologize for this
- 1:13:25because I know a lot of people want to vilify the Dodgers a lot.
- 1:13:27Sure. I totally get that. If, if you're— this is, this is all about who's
- 1:13:31bringing you joy. This is what's bringing me joy. Like, I know everybody looks at
- 1:13:35the Dodgers and they're like, oh, all the money. Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman.
- 1:13:39Outside of like, yeah, like Mookie's having kind of a down year,
- 1:13:42but Mookie's like, he's Mookie. Like, it's all good. Freddie is doing Freddie things like
- 1:13:46he always does. And of course, Shohei Ohtani. Shohei Ohtani. Yeah. The biggest,
- 1:13:50most impactful Dodgers this year are not those
- 1:13:54names. Yeah. The biggest, most impactful Dodgers. There were 5 official
- 1:13:59All-Stars in the All-Star Game from the Dodgers this year. These were— Shohei
- 1:14:04Ohtani couldn't go because he had his knee drained. Yeah. So that's why I'm saying
- 1:14:065. They replaced Shohei with somebody else. 3 of
- 1:14:10them are not even close to superstars, are the superstars.
- 1:14:13Like, one of those All-Stars was Max Muncy. And those of you that want
- 1:14:17to say, well, Max Muncy's a star— Max Muncy was a castoff from the Oakland
- 1:14:20A's. Yeah, he was a star to you now. He was a Triple-A castoff from
- 1:14:24the Oakland A's that got— that the Dodgers picked up on a whim and he
- 1:14:27turned into a star with the Dodgers. He makes $10 million. He made
- 1:14:31another All-Star team and started in this game. I fucking love that. He reminds me
- 1:14:35so much of the, like, all those players that were on that 2015 Royals team.
- 1:14:38Yeah, like remember where they were like, they were like nobody's but awesome and they
- 1:14:42were all separate. There was a couple like, you know, but like, but they were
- 1:14:44so young, but then like no one was like a superstar. Yeah, it was just
- 1:14:47a team. It was just a bunch of dudes and they got contracts and I
- 1:14:49loved them. Yeah, amazing. Another one of those All-Stars was,
- 1:14:53was Andy, Andy Páez. Andy Páez makes major
- 1:14:57league minimum. He is a homegrown Dodger. He started as an outfielder in the
- 1:15:01All-Star Game this year. Andy Páez is known by fucking no one in the star—
- 1:15:05you look at the Dodgers, you don't think Andy Páez. Andy Páez at third 30
- 1:15:07home runs last year. Annie Báez made an outfield catch in the 9th inning that
- 1:15:10saved the World Series for the Dodgers. Like, and then
- 1:15:14the last All-Star, which I was putting together a huge campaign
- 1:15:17for, which is Robleski, left-handed starter. You know why Robleski's
- 1:15:22in the big leagues this year? Because Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow got hurt,
- 1:15:25and then Justin Robleski went in there and dominated. He's been the best
- 1:15:29pitcher on the Dodgers this year. He's been better than Yamamoto. He's been
- 1:15:33better than Shohei Ohtani. He's been the best pitcher on the Dodgers from Jump
- 1:15:37Street. He was an All-Star this year. Justin Robleski, Andy Páez,
- 1:15:41Max Muncy. You know who else I'm gonna throw on the list, even though he's
- 1:15:44a little bit of a fiery kid? Dalton Rushing is a rookie who,
- 1:15:48yeah, he's a little wired off a little bit. He causes some problems.
- 1:15:51Oh, I swear to God, every white MLB player is like that dude.
- 1:15:55Yeah, no, no, he is. Almost all of them are like exactly that guy.
- 1:15:58He's fucking wired a little off. And I probably wouldn't like him
- 1:16:02if I knew him personally, but whatever. We don't know enough. But I don't know
- 1:16:05enough about him. So great. So, but like, this kid is taking over for,
- 1:16:08for, for Will Smith and he's done a phenomenal fucking
- 1:16:11job. Absolutely. Like phenomenal. He homered last night.
- 1:16:14Like, these are players that
- 1:16:18are actually carrying the Los Angeles Dodgers to the best record
- 1:16:23in baseball. And all of you that are pointing out what the Dodgers spend,
- 1:16:26you're actually missing what I think is the best story in baseball.
- 1:16:30This is like a baby group of Dodgers that have been unbelievable.
- 1:16:34Which, by the way, you know, baseball— and I actually feel this way about like
- 1:16:38most sports I've watched. I watch a lot of sports and I— the through
- 1:16:42line in most sports is that more than anything,
- 1:16:46more than talent, more than payroll,
- 1:16:50is just that when you're on a heater,
- 1:16:54when you are on a roll, when you start getting hot— like,
- 1:16:58we talk about it when we were in fucking, like, little kids in gym
- 1:17:01class— when someone's on a heater, it's a real thing.
- 1:17:05That's a real thing that happens in sports. There's no
- 1:17:09reason on planet Earth that the 2026 Red Sox should have
- 1:17:12won 15 fucking games. No, none. What are you fucking talking about?
- 1:17:15They hadn't done that since the 1940s. What are you fucking talking about? This team
- 1:17:19did that? That team. That's not— they are going to be lost
- 1:17:23to time. It's just a vibe
- 1:17:27and player vibes. Players win titles there.
- 1:17:31Yes, we've, we've gotten a little off track with some of these superstar Dodgers
- 1:17:35teams and some of these like other that have won. But realistically, if you look
- 1:17:38over the course of, of the, the winning MLB,
- 1:17:43you know, anybody who's won a World Series, you've got the dynasties, you got
- 1:17:47the fucking, you know, Yankees, right? Guess who the Yankees had? Vibes guys
- 1:17:52that carried them when the stars weren't there. And the Dodgers have that this year.
- 1:17:55They haven't had it as much in a couple of seasons. Some of theirs,
- 1:17:58it's been like carried by stars, but there's always been one or two vibes
- 1:18:02guys at least. And Kike Hernandez is— when I say vibes guy, and when I—
- 1:18:05exactly. When I say vibes guy, it does not take away talent. That's not what
- 1:18:09I'm saying. I'm saying you're just— you're not fucking Shohei. You're not going to end
- 1:18:13up in the Hall of Fame. No, Shohei is a Hall of Famer. Right.
- 1:18:14Like, you're not Clayton Kershaw, you're not these, like, right? That's what
- 1:18:18all I mean. And by the way, and a lot of those people end up
- 1:18:21being World Series, you know, MVPs. Yeah. So I love
- 1:18:24that. And I completely agree. I think that that's something that I really love
- 1:18:28in general about not just baseball, but sports, is,
- 1:18:32is finding the people who are the little weird cogs in the wheel
- 1:18:36that make everything turn, that aren't the superstars. And here, here's just
- 1:18:40like, like my last little bit on why I think that Dodgers are really,
- 1:18:42really kind of fun to watch and really like a good story. I know you
- 1:18:47guys are, you guys are letting talking points dictate your thoughts
- 1:18:51about certain things, and that's a problem. You need to just watch, use your eyeballs.
- 1:18:55The Dodgers have the best record in baseball in this entire season.
- 1:18:58They've had almost at every single point of the season have
- 1:19:02had nearly $200 million of their active payroll on
- 1:19:06the injured list. Yeah, they have been doing this by committee.
- 1:19:10It has been, honest to God,
- 1:19:14so astonishing and fun to watch, and I wish people
- 1:19:19would pay attention to that. My thing that I'm loving,
- 1:19:23um, first of all, I just told you I'm really heading, uh, I'm really excited
- 1:19:27to be heading into NFL season. Um, I need it.
- 1:19:31I have not been doing well in terms of just like my
- 1:19:35overall, um, like I'm struggling. I'm struggling financially.
- 1:19:38I'm struggling to figure out what the next thing is going to be that actually
- 1:19:41get— oh, you're in the dark now. Moody.
- 1:19:45Okay, well, I don't know why Cody does have lights. They're just dead right now.
- 1:19:49I have no idea why. I charged those batteries for hours. That should not be
- 1:19:53the case. Well, here we are. I mean, if it was gonna happen, is it
- 1:19:56gonna happen today? I'm just glad it's my light. You, you need to look the
- 1:19:58way you look. No one gives a shit how I look. I do like how
- 1:20:01this keeps happening to us. Because it was happening to us, remember when I was,
- 1:20:05um, my ring light was dying at home? You know what? I actually like the
- 1:20:08bootiness of my shot. Mocha, do I look better now? You look,
- 1:20:12yeah, you look, the lighting is, you're casting a— I'm not gonna lie to you,
- 1:20:16this is actually— It looks like I'm arguing with, it looks like we're arguing,
- 1:20:20like Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. It looks like we're
- 1:20:23having an angel-devil conversation. And I'm about
- 1:20:28to talk about the NFL, which makes no sense. But like, I really need the
- 1:20:32NFL season to come. And something I've been thinking a lot about is that,
- 1:20:36you know, people spend a lot of time talking about NFL quarterbacks,
- 1:20:39but not in a way that's fun. That's not in a way that's like,
- 1:20:42hey, how cool is this? Yeah. And I think that, you know, since I
- 1:20:46started watching the NFL and then since I've been covering it,
- 1:20:50quarterbacking has never been better. Like, we have never had more diversity at the
- 1:20:54position. And we've also never just like— we've just never had better quarterbacking. And I
- 1:20:57just want to remind everybody that in 2024, in the
- 1:21:022024 draft, the number
- 1:21:051, number 2, and number 3 picks
- 1:21:11were Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Drake Maye.
- 1:21:14That was 1, 2, 3 in the 2024 draft.
- 1:21:18God, that's a fucking good draft. That is unfucking
- 1:21:22believable. Boy, that is a good— these are 3 good hits.
- 1:21:26Superstar franchise fucking quarterbacks.
- 1:21:29Now, nice. Caleb Williams is my favorite of the
- 1:21:333. He was my favorite of the 3 at the time. I,
- 1:21:36I'm not retconning this. He's still my favorite of the 3.
- 1:21:39He's— and he's still my favorite of the 3. Uh,
- 1:21:43there's, there's personality elements to it and star factor elements
- 1:21:47to it. There's also just the way he plays football. I like, I, I like
- 1:21:51so much of what I saw on the— in the back end of the season,
- 1:21:53in the playoffs, from Caleb Williams, to the point where Like,
- 1:21:57I, like, I, I, if I were to bet who
- 1:22:00is going to take the biggest leap of the 3 this year from
- 1:22:042nd to 3rd year, it would be Caleb. Um, Jayden Daniels and Drake
- 1:22:08Maye, I mean, these are 2 of the better young quarterbacks in the league.
- 1:22:11Drake Maye just played in the fucking Super Bowl, uh,
- 1:22:14was an MVP contender all year. Jayden Daniels had one of the best rookie seasons
- 1:22:18we've ever seen. And now we're heading into year 3 with these 2 dudes.
- 1:22:22And we all act like— we all act like there's a fucking problem at
- 1:22:25this position. Like the argument, the arguments
- 1:22:29of the, of the top 10 quarterbacks and who's the greatest and who's the whatever
- 1:22:32and who should be in the fucking top 5 and who should— I don't fucking
- 1:22:36care. What I care about is the fact that 2
- 1:22:40years, 2 years and change ago, we're in year 3, 1,
- 1:22:432, 3 went fucking franchise.
- 1:22:47Those dudes aren't going anywhere. None of those dudes are going to— there's no like
- 1:22:49third year where we're going to find out they suck. It's just not happening.
- 1:22:52I know it's not happening. I love— I love
- 1:22:57the fact that the quarterbacking position, if you look
- 1:23:01at those 3 players, looks completely different. They play completely differently.
- 1:23:05They have completely different styles. They play for completely different coaches. They have completely
- 1:23:08different approaches to the game, completely different personalities. And I like every
- 1:23:12single— I like something I like a lot about every single
- 1:23:16one of them. Caleb Williams, I think, is the most
- 1:23:21like naturally physically gifted. And I don't actually mean
- 1:23:25that in a like Lamar Jackson, Steve Young way.
- 1:23:28Yeah, I mean it in a field vision way. I think
- 1:23:33he sees the field better than any quarterback in the league outside
- 1:23:37of the, the greats like that are still playing, like Patrick Mahomes,
- 1:23:40Lamar, Josh Allen to some extent. I think Jayden Daniels
- 1:23:45is the heart, is the one who understands
- 1:23:48the play calling the best. He breaks down play calling and
- 1:23:52understands exactly what defenses are doing better than anybody in that, in those,
- 1:23:56in that young group. And I think that Drake May is actually
- 1:24:00the one who's like physically the most capable of
- 1:24:03being the most diverse, which is interesting because he's— all of these guys can run.
- 1:24:07All of these guys are capable of being dual threat mobile QBs.
- 1:24:10Yeah. But Drake Maye has actually utilized that the best in
- 1:24:15terms of like— and I think part of that is Josh McDaniels' playcalling in the
- 1:24:19last, last year. He just has like the most— probably the best offensive coordinator on
- 1:24:22that front. He is very good. Something I'm just so excited about
- 1:24:25is we're getting year 3 of the top 3 picks 2 seasons ago,
- 1:24:30and these guys are fucking exceptional. And yes, we argue about Lamar Jackson
- 1:24:34and Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow and whatever. And they still
- 1:24:38seem young to me, and they are in the grand scheme of things. We have
- 1:24:41guys— I mean, Aaron Rodgers is still playing and he's 116,
- 1:24:46I believe. Yeah, 117. I got to do the math again. Yeah, the one.
- 1:24:50Um, but his— Cody, did you hear his wife? Um, he spoke with
- 1:24:54his wife and she convinced him that he had to do— that he should play
- 1:24:56one more year and then he's gonna retire after this year. His totally— his totally
- 1:25:00real wife. Totally very real. Totally real. Not at all.
- 1:25:03Wife named Britney that no one has discovered.
- 1:25:07No leaks. Totally real. Does he keep her chained
- 1:25:10in a basement, or is she real? Um, it's a real Miscavige
- 1:25:15situation. Sure. Yeah, it's a very Shelley Miscavige— very— where's
- 1:25:18Shelley? Where's Shelley? Where's Britney? I've been asking the question, where's Shelley?
- 1:25:23Where's Britney? And where's Britney? Uh, shout out to the Scientology,
- 1:25:26uh, LA people. There's only so many of you that'll get that joke. LA and
- 1:25:31not know the Scientology lore. That's a good joke and
- 1:25:35factual thing that might actually be taking place. And shout out to people who live
- 1:25:39in Clearwater who aren't Scientologists. By the way, you are a Scientologist, you suck.
- 1:25:42Yeah, no thank you. Um, so anyway, there we go. You did
- 1:25:46your baseball, I did my NFL, we had a blast. I'm really excited. It's actually
- 1:25:50something— even talking about it lowered my cortisol levels. It made me happy
- 1:25:53because I know this show, we get a lot, we get really into our opinions
- 1:25:58and our feelings because there's a lot of darkness around sports.
- 1:26:02And we've described the show before as our almost
- 1:26:06like, you know, we're the regulars. We made this bar aesthetic
- 1:26:10and idea of this show that we're just a couple of disgruntled employees need
- 1:26:15to sitting down to talk about the actual evil in our industry.
- 1:26:19And that is a lot of it. But there is the reason why
- 1:26:23we do it, at least for me, and I don't want to speak for you,
- 1:26:26of course. Please never do. Don't ever speak for me, Cody.
- 1:26:29But I feel like we're going to agree on this. Excuse me. I'm going to
- 1:26:30speak for— I'm going to speak for you. Excuse me. Allow me to explain.
- 1:26:34Dare I say mansplain this to you? Thank you. Okay.
- 1:26:38The idea is we do it because we do love sports.
- 1:26:42That's the reason. And the reason we love sports
- 1:26:46is for the things we just talked about. Like, that's what we
- 1:26:49want more of. Sports is not allowing
- 1:26:53it. Sports is making it more of the opposite.
- 1:26:57And it really fucking bothers me. And it bothers—
- 1:27:01and I know it bothers you. You've dedicated your life to this industry.
- 1:27:05I, I dedicated my life and my body to this industry, and I
- 1:27:09am in physical pain every day because of it.
- 1:27:12And I'm constantly, because of how dark this
- 1:27:16industry is, how dark the sports media industry
- 1:27:19has gotten. And by the way, I've been now in the sports media, specifically sports
- 1:27:23media, for the last 10 years now. It has gotten so
- 1:27:28significantly darker, right, in the last 5. Yeah. Uh, and I
- 1:27:31mean, and I'd say the darkest in the last 1.5.
- 1:27:36Um, the actual sports of it all have really
- 1:27:40gotten darker, and that's a really ugly place to be.
- 1:27:43Um, we love sports, we hate the sports industry.
- 1:27:47Yeah. And that's something I think we can both agree on and both
- 1:27:51desperately want to bring— we're never going to be able to fix it,
- 1:27:55it's— that's the thing. But we can bring us back, at least, or try
- 1:27:58to bring us back to a semblance, a semblance
- 1:28:02of reality. What we can do is like,
- 1:28:07at the very least, not let sports become
- 1:28:11a thing that people— that doesn't, that doesn't give us
- 1:28:14the community that we— that it brings to people. And that, you know,
- 1:28:18that I don't know what's going to happen to sports media. Me neither.
- 1:28:21Um, I— when I came into the industry in, in 2010 as
- 1:28:25an intern in college, it was so fun.
- 1:28:29It was just— and I don't— it wasn't just youth because it lasted for a
- 1:28:32long time. And even it was— even when I was stressed out and even when
- 1:28:35everything sucked, The, the industry had this like future to
- 1:28:39it. Um, this is end of times shit happening.
- 1:28:42Yeah. But, uh, as long as sports are being played,
- 1:28:45we are going to have reasons to connect with each other. And it is important
- 1:28:49that we find those like little pockets where we're able to do that.
- 1:28:54Um, let's, let's just take a few minutes since we've run long
- 1:28:57anyway, as we close out. Why not?
- 1:29:01Let me preface this. I used to work in the wrestling industry and
- 1:29:05I never did. I never did. And I do mean both current
- 1:29:09major companies. Yeah. Yeah, I did work for AEW and WWE. If you're an OG
- 1:29:13The Regulars listener, you know Cody has AEW and WWE
- 1:29:18experience and has beef with both. This is specifically about
- 1:29:21WWE, which— and I will say this, and I can't believe I'm saying this— is
- 1:29:25the worst of the two. Yes. And he's back, but WWE's
- 1:29:30worse. SummerSlam is coming up tomorrow. My very good friend
- 1:29:34Ladarius Brown— no idea. Ladarius Brown's one of the—
- 1:29:37like, he's been covering the WWE forever,
- 1:29:40and he wanted to know if we had any thoughts about it coming up.
- 1:29:44I did know, and I'll tell you why I knew. Now, I clocked—
- 1:29:47I was a fan for a while. I started clocking out right around when Brock
- 1:29:51Lesnar came back and everything was going to shit. It just wasn't interesting to me
- 1:29:54and I was bummed. Yeah, there was a bunch of stuff I wish I didn't
- 1:29:57have to bail on. I popped back in when Sami Zayn finally won a title.
- 1:30:00That was a cool hour to rip it away from him immediately
- 1:30:04again, by the way. I fucking hate it. And it's so weird, it's like,
- 1:30:07when did CM Punk become the company guy? But please
- 1:30:11don't even, dude. Please don't even— remember when he was CM Punk?
- 1:30:14Please don't even fucking— CM fucking Yacht Rock,
- 1:30:18change your name, bro. Pathetic. What happened to Phil? Uh,
- 1:30:23I will say I clocked in a little bit in time for SummerSlam for
- 1:30:272 reasons. I like Charlotte Flair, uh, and what she's got
- 1:30:31going on right now. Very talented. And, um,
- 1:30:35Seth Rollins is going to have a match with Roman Reigns, and it's a
- 1:30:39long time coming thing. And I've just— I always really loved Seth Rollins
- 1:30:43as a wrestler. Um, I always liked him. He's a Like, he's a really
- 1:30:48fucking great wrestler. I think he's the best, uh, wrestler among the men on the
- 1:30:51mic by like a pretty large margin. Really? I never actually— that's funny. I,
- 1:30:54I've— it's not a knock on him. His mic skills were never for me.
- 1:30:57Well, you, you haven't watched in a while. Yeah, it is true. I have not.
- 1:31:00I'm telling you right now, he's the best in the company by a mile,
- 1:31:03and he's really fucking good. He's— he helped Cody Rhodes. He was essentially the only
- 1:31:07reason Cody Rhodes had a storyline when he won. Cody Rhodes is so bad on
- 1:31:10the mic, I don't know what to do with myself. And Yeah, but also
- 1:31:14in-ring, he's an incredible technician. But on top of everything else, they have— this
- 1:31:18is a storyline that these are the few things that pay off. If you— it's
- 1:31:21just like soap operas. I watched General Hospital since I was a little kid.
- 1:31:23Of course, when something exists for 12 years, that's what's going on
- 1:31:26with Roman and Seth. So I'm going to clock back in because I do actually—
- 1:31:30I do think these 2 people have great in-ring chemistry, and I'm excited to
- 1:31:34see how this plays out. And then I'm going to clock right back
- 1:31:37out. That's my prerogative. Okay. Now, what I think is really fucking interesting
- 1:31:41is that you didn't know SummerSlam was— had no idea it was this weekend.
- 1:31:44And I am not surprised by that because I didn't know
- 1:31:49anything that has been happening for months because I wasn't like
- 1:31:52actively logging in to look. But what I do actively do is log into Netflix
- 1:31:57and ESPN all the time on my streaming services.
- 1:32:02So I recently went to go check something on ESPN about what was
- 1:32:05going on with WWE and Now ESPN has this huge deal
- 1:32:09with WWE, Cody. Yes, they do. When I tell you, when I
- 1:32:13tell you, I— you know how they have the all the leagues, all the like
- 1:32:17things they cover? I click, click, click, click, click, click, clicked.
- 1:32:20WWE was behind like, I don't know,
- 1:32:24fucking college hockey at the very— it was the last
- 1:32:28thing, okay? I haven't seen a fucking promo.
- 1:32:32I haven't seen a fucking Billboard?
- 1:32:35Where is the promotion for the, like, 2nd to 3rd largest
- 1:32:39PLE in all of WWE and all of wrestling?
- 1:32:43I'm glad you said 3rd because I would agree. I used to say it was
- 1:32:46Mania, Rumble. I think it's Mania and Rumble. By the way, the only one I
- 1:32:49ever really truly loved to watch was the Rumble. Rumble's my favorite by far.
- 1:32:52Rumble was always my favorite thing to watch in WWE. Hell yeah, brother. I fucking
- 1:32:56love that. Okay, that's why you're the best. So, like, that was cool. Oh,
- 1:32:59he always has. This, I think, is really fascinating because since I've been watching since
- 1:33:04about 2019, 2020, their promotion
- 1:33:09was— I worked for Fox Sports. I saw it like they were— we
- 1:33:13were crushing it. I know. I remember USA, TNT, whoever it might
- 1:33:16have been, always crushed it. You could not avoid it. ESPN has relegated the
- 1:33:20WWE to fucking third-rate bullshit programming.
- 1:33:25And part of me wants to be
- 1:33:29mad at ESPN, right? Because like, fuck you guys, you're so bad at this.
- 1:33:32Like, you're so fucking bad at everything. But part of me is also like,
- 1:33:35WWE was so craven and stupid that they thought that they were going to
- 1:33:39be prioritized on ESPN. And the best ESPN
- 1:33:44has done is, is platform Danhausen as,
- 1:33:48as like a Knicks savior because Stephen A. Smith took a
- 1:33:52liking to him. And, and lets Seth Rollins be like the third-rate,
- 1:33:55you know, sports media personality on, on, on morning shows.
- 1:34:00Is that not— I literally like, what are we fucking doing?
- 1:34:04This is so funny. ESPN literally said we really, really, really want—
- 1:34:07are you trying to tank? Like, do they? Because now I'm wondering if Jimmy Pitaro
- 1:34:12has like a problem with Triple H. Like, it actually seems like they're trying to
- 1:34:15tank the WWE. That's how little they care about promoting SummerSlam.
- 1:34:19No, I think This is what I think, and I might be wrong. I legitimately
- 1:34:22might be wrong. I don't know. This is my take. I'm willing to believe you're
- 1:34:25wrong. Believe me. Well, you shouldn't, because I'm usually right. You know that.
- 1:34:28But this is my thought process.
- 1:34:32Now that WWE is actually within the
- 1:34:36actual ESPN ecosystem, is it possible at
- 1:34:41all that perhaps the actual real popularity and
- 1:34:45money behind WWE might just
- 1:34:49not be as popular as WWE wants you to think because we
- 1:34:53live so much on social media and so much of social media is very easily
- 1:34:57purchased. So I don't think WWE is
- 1:35:01nearly as popular as media outlets has
- 1:35:06very much tried to make them. But isn't that kind of to my point?
- 1:35:08No, but, but I think the reason that WWE— that ESPN. I don't think this
- 1:35:12is like, oh, ESPN is just bundled. I think this is ESPN putting
- 1:35:16them basically where the demand is.
- 1:35:20I don't think WWE is nearly as popular with actual
- 1:35:23sports fans. Halfway. I'm going to meet you halfway. I,
- 1:35:26I like that. And I think that that says a lot about where it might
- 1:35:30land among the really major sports. Like, right. Like, it's like we know
- 1:35:34it's not NFL. WWE's fandom is an internet fandom. But what I'm saying
- 1:35:38is like, it should be promoted in
- 1:35:42the summer months where we've got like— so we've got no NBA.
- 1:35:46The NFL hasn't really kicked off yet. We're like, I mean, we are
- 1:35:49in a place where you could easily be promoting WWE. It's not behind college
- 1:35:53hockey. Okay. Like, let's be real now. By the
- 1:35:57way, Dan Turner says Seth does a great job on hosting Rich Eisen's show.
- 1:36:00I think he does fine. Yeah. No, I think— I also
- 1:36:05think that like I don't like it either. I also think that like the bar
- 1:36:07sometimes is like, um,
- 1:36:11really low, like extremely low. And I, and I'm gonna say this as kindly as
- 1:36:14I can, can say it to the person who was commenting because I don't think
- 1:36:18that they're coming from this place, but like I think that a lot of
- 1:36:22times what you hear is just like another white man who asks very
- 1:36:25similar questions to Rich Eisen and it has a very similar sort
- 1:36:29of ethos. Yeah, exactly. And like, I don't think that's
- 1:36:34super exceptional. Rich Eisen, I do think is
- 1:36:38great, but I actually don't think the thing that makes
- 1:36:41him great is his interview show. No, no, I actually like his personality.
- 1:36:45That's why I like him. And also like, he as an anchor
- 1:36:49and like what he brought to like highlights and like whatever was actually like,
- 1:36:53I think he's done great interviews, but like, I don't think it's hard to do
- 1:36:56great interviews with fucking Matt Damon. It— I think Matt
- 1:36:59Damon could do an interview with a brick wall that's charming, right? Like, he— Rich
- 1:37:04is awesome. I like him as a person. I root for Rich.
- 1:37:08But also, like, filling in for Rich is not the same
- 1:37:12sort of difficulty level, uh,
- 1:37:17on that show. I don't think as it would be to fill in for,
- 1:37:20like— like, I would love to see Seth Rollins fill in for SVP. SVP's SportsCenter,
- 1:37:25then I will be intrigued at his fucking broadcasting ability. Does this
- 1:37:29make sense? No, no, it does, because the actual broadcasting nature of it, you have
- 1:37:32to, you have to, uh, SVP is a good call because SVP does a combination
- 1:37:36of that and he's also doing multiple segments of a different type of broadcasting.
- 1:37:40He's got like, I mean, that IFB is fucking cooking. Just, just full transparency,
- 1:37:44so when I'm doing like my morning show, just so you understand like what is
- 1:37:47taking place, so when I was on the Carton Show, when I was on When
- 1:37:49I'm doing any of these shows, there is at least 1 or 2 to 3
- 1:37:53people in my ear at all times. Yeah, they're giving me time, they're giving me
- 1:37:55extra points, they're giving me things that I have to wrap up. So while I'm
- 1:37:58listening to 1 to 2 other people and I'm directing traffic, I also have 3
- 1:38:02to 4 people in my ears telling me timings, what other things I have to
- 1:38:05bring up, other topics, get off this topic, move on to the next topic,
- 1:38:08hey, this has got to happen. Like, it's a shit ton of things. And it's
- 1:38:12actually, believe it or not, I don't find it super difficult. I— but,
- 1:38:16but I could definitely understand. You know, I take that back.
- 1:38:19I've been doing it so long that I don't find it difficult. You're a professional
- 1:38:22sports media person. You're not like— again, like, that's not something that someone could just
- 1:38:25step into. But you don't just step into that. And by the way, and even
- 1:38:28as much experience as you and I both have in our respective, like,
- 1:38:32roles that we've had across the course of time, still couldn't just step in and
- 1:38:35do it. No, it is a tricky— what SVP does it right. So it's like,
- 1:38:38I guess that's all I'm saying is that, like, like a sit-down interview show is
- 1:38:42probably about the easiest thing you can do in sports media. Yeah, which is why
- 1:38:45people retire into it all the time. It's why Dan Patrick retired into
- 1:38:49what he does. He just sits there and fucking yaps with his bros. Again,
- 1:38:52nothing to prove to me. I'm not saying that they're not talented. No,
- 1:38:56Dan Patrick has a much broader,
- 1:38:59um, extremely content bait. Did that just come back on?
- 1:39:03The fuck? Mocha, what the fuck? This place is
- 1:39:07haunted. No, that's actually fucking nuts.
- 1:39:10What the fuck just happened? How did my fucking light turn
- 1:39:14off and turn back on? There is full trans— there's no one over
- 1:39:19there. Like, that's fucking wild. That's insane. Okay, we've officially gone the
- 1:39:22longest we've ever gone on a show. This is not surprising. We haven't seen each
- 1:39:25other for 2 weeks. We both had a long time. We missed each other.
- 1:39:28I legit missed you. We had— I'm so happy. We needed this.
- 1:39:31This was much needed. We missed Mocha. Yeah, before I turned 28 without us.
- 1:39:35Happy birthday, Mocha, and happy Happy birthday to your mom, obviously. Mama Fox. My mom
- 1:39:39turned a spry 35, which I'm excited about. Good for her. And I— and also,
- 1:39:43full transparency, before she— I— we had weeks— I had
- 1:39:47weeks long of trauma that I needed to unload on her earlier. So like,
- 1:39:51she was also my therapist before the show started. So it's been a fucking wild
- 1:39:54day. Listen, you know what? I'm here for all the roles you need me to
- 1:39:56be here for. I'm— I'm— I am ride or die. Um, that's my girl,
- 1:40:00you know. And here we are, uh, at the end of the show, and we've
- 1:40:04Listen, I, I love your— I love the idea of saying fuck
- 1:40:09to Adam Schefter or whatever else, but you know what? But seriously, he doesn't actually
- 1:40:12deserve that level. He does, because he just made a billion dollars
- 1:40:16on the sale of Underdog today. So congratulations, I guess you're a billionaire now.
- 1:40:19Because whether you— because whether you believe— okay,
- 1:40:23whether you believe that the bloody sock was real or not, what Kirt Schilling did
- 1:40:27was actually play baseball and pitch the fuck out of a base— out of a
- 1:40:30By the way, I will never, ever say Curt Schilling was bad. Same thing.
- 1:40:33Like, like, I'll give you another guy, Trevor Bauer. He could throw a baseball.
- 1:40:36He was very good at throwing a baseball. But outside of that, fuck Curt Schilling
- 1:40:39and fuck Trevor Bauer. Not as good as Curt Schilling, but not as good as
- 1:40:42Curt Schilling. But also fuck Curt Schilling, fuck Trevor Bauer, fuck everybody but me
- 1:40:46and Cody and Mocha. Quite honestly, we are the regulars. Like, share, subscribe.
- 1:40:49Hope you enjoyed our— all of our listener questions and we will see
- 1:40:53you on Monday.
