Latest / Foul Territory / FT Postgame Reax: ALCS GAME 7 is happening! Blue Jays top Mariners at home to force chaos
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Time for the ft live host gamesho it is presented
- 0:05Speaker 1: by Fox One. We have two fan bases that are
- 0:09Speaker 1: starving for a World Series appearance. One has never seen it,
- 0:12Speaker 1: the other hasn't seen it in a long time. And
- 0:14Speaker 1: we're gonna get a Game seven in the ALCS between
- 0:16Speaker 1: the Blue Jays and the Mariners. Scotty Brown and Aj Perzinski.
- 0:19Speaker 1: I mean, first off, Aj, we saw sweep in the
- 0:21Speaker 1: National League side, and there were still some cool moments
- 0:24Speaker 1: on that side. But here in the American League we've
- 0:27Speaker 1: got seven. Yeah, it wasn't close. That's the point. This
- 0:29Speaker 1: is as close as it gets here. We've got a
- 0:31Speaker 1: game seven. Stars are stars, Laddie's a man, and look
- 0:34Speaker 1: at Toronto getting to host a Game seven here against
- 0:37Speaker 1: a Mariners team that definitely made quite a few gaps
- 0:40Speaker 1: in this one. But it's not like you're heading into
- 0:43Speaker 1: Game seven being like, oh yeah, blue Jay's.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Got no No, no, not at all. I mean, yes,
- 0:49Speaker 2: you mentioned the NLCS.
- 0:51Speaker 3: I mean, obviously, the three home runs by a tany
- 0:53Speaker 3: and a ten punchouts probably the greatest game we've ever seen,
- 0:55Speaker 3: just singular game, clinching game, the whole deal. But what
- 0:59Speaker 3: do they say, both these franchise came into existence in
- 1:01Speaker 3: nineteen seventy seven. It's only fitting that they go seven
- 1:04Speaker 3: games to settle this score.
- 1:05Speaker 2: And it's awesome. It's been a series that's been crazy.
- 1:08Speaker 2: The first four games won by the road team.
- 1:11Speaker 3: After that, obviously, now the home team here wins a game,
- 1:17Speaker 3: the Mariners won Game five, the Blue Jays win Game six,
- 1:20Speaker 3: and here you go, right, I mean, every winner take
- 1:23Speaker 3: all Shane bieber verse, it's.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Got to be Kirby.
- 1:25Speaker 3: I can't imagine him pitch casill because he struggled against
- 1:28Speaker 3: the Jays all year. Kirby gave up the most runs
- 1:30Speaker 3: of all time in a postseason game at eight I
- 1:32Speaker 3: believe last time he started so and.
- 1:34Speaker 2: The Mariners struggle away from home. The Blue Jays are
- 1:36Speaker 2: great away from home. So it's all lined up. It's
- 1:39Speaker 2: all gonna be drama.
- 1:40Speaker 3: And the most fascinating thing is we'll get into it,
- 1:42Speaker 3: is how are the managers deploy pitchers? Because that is
- 1:45Speaker 3: always the talk of every postseason game.
- 1:48Speaker 1: You know what I was thinking is the Mariners have
- 1:51Speaker 1: had one of the best starting staffs in baseball for
- 1:54Speaker 1: the last several years.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Now.
- 1:55Speaker 1: It wasn't as shiny this year as the prior couple seasons,
- 1:59Speaker 1: starting pitching for the Mars has actually been a huge
- 2:01Speaker 1: problem for them, besides.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Game one, Bryce Miller.
- 2:05Speaker 1: So, as I was watching this game unfold, aj, I
- 2:07Speaker 1: was thinking, if I'm Dan Wilson, do I send me
- 2:11Speaker 1: punt once I'm down two three runs and just completely
- 2:14Speaker 1: save anybody I consider high leverage with at this point
- 2:17Speaker 1: for them is at least three, if not four, or
- 2:19Speaker 1: five relievers, and turn this into somewhat of a bullpen
- 2:22Speaker 1: game with super short leashes for someone like George Kirby
- 2:26Speaker 1: or anyone else that would be starting this game based
- 2:29Speaker 1: on the recent history in this series. I didn't feel
- 2:32Speaker 1: like they played it out that way. I understand you
- 2:34Speaker 1: got to play and be competitive in this one, but
- 2:36Speaker 1: almost was thinking, Man, I mean I could get two
- 2:39Speaker 1: or three innings out of Brash.
- 2:40Speaker 4: It's a game seven, right, you can do two.
- 2:42Speaker 1: I can get two or three innings out of Bizardo,
- 2:45Speaker 1: two or three innings out of Munos. I mean that
- 2:47Speaker 1: right there almost adds up for you. I know it's unconventional,
- 2:50Speaker 1: but I don't know if I feel really good about
- 2:51Speaker 1: any of these starters against this particular lineup matchup wise.
- 2:55Speaker 2: No, I think I think you're right.
- 2:57Speaker 3: I thought when it was five to two and they
- 2:58Speaker 3: brought Brash and I was a little bit surprised.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Bizarto in the game. Fine, but you know, we've talked
- 3:05Speaker 2: about this.
- 3:06Speaker 3: The Dodgers are really good about kind of punting a
- 3:08Speaker 3: game and getting ready for the next game. Dave Roberts
- 3:10Speaker 3: has learned from all of his years, like you know,
- 3:12Speaker 3: sometimes you got to lose a battle to win the war.
- 3:15Speaker 3: And you know, Brash looked not great tonight. What can
- 3:17Speaker 3: he give you through over twenty pitches? And Jeff Hoffman
- 3:19Speaker 3: threw thirty pitches tonight, thirty two I think it was
- 3:22Speaker 3: or thirty three, whatever it was.
- 3:24Speaker 2: So he's wor's he going.
- 3:25Speaker 3: To be at tomorrow night? I mean, Louis Varland, dude,
- 3:27Speaker 3: his arm's gonna fall off.
- 3:28Speaker 2: He throws it.
- 3:29Speaker 3: I mean, no, he throws like not he throw one game.
- 3:31Speaker 3: He throws like two games a day. I feel like
- 3:33Speaker 3: you must throw a simulated game. It's unbelievable how much
- 3:36Speaker 3: he's pitched. But I mean, I look at Game five
- 3:38Speaker 3: for the Mayor or Game seven for the Mayors. Like
- 3:40Speaker 3: when I did Game five against the Tigers, right, they
- 3:44Speaker 3: they ran I don't even I forget who even started.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Maybe Kirby I think started that game. And then they
- 3:49Speaker 3: had you know, Bizarto for two, Spire for two, Munios
- 3:53Speaker 3: for two. They used Castillo in that game. They use
- 3:55Speaker 3: Gilbert in that game. They used everybody in that game.
- 3:57Speaker 3: That's kind of what you got to look at in
- 3:59Speaker 3: this game to say, all right, who's available and can
- 4:01Speaker 3: you give me multiple innings if we need them out
- 4:03Speaker 3: of our big guns. And by using Brash and Bizardo tonight,
- 4:07Speaker 3: does it lessen their effectiveness for tomorrow? Much like Kaufman
- 4:09Speaker 3: from the Jays, does it lessen their effectiveness for tomorrow?
- 4:13Speaker 1: I know fans are going to say, hey, we'll be fine.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Twenty one pitches from Brash and I think it was
- 4:17Speaker 1: fifteen for Bizarto, even though it was two innings, it
- 4:20Speaker 1: was fifteen. That's very efficient, so you'll definitely see him
- 4:24Speaker 1: if needed. But going two innings with him, you know,
- 4:26Speaker 1: I get it. You're trying to keep your team in
- 4:28Speaker 1: the game. It's a Mariners team that's boom or bust.
- 4:30Speaker 1: This is a top three power team all year long,
- 4:33Speaker 1: and this is what you're seeing two very different looking
- 4:36Speaker 1: effective offenses.
- 4:37Speaker 4: But for Seattle.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Some nights there's just not going to be much there,
- 4:40Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden they'll have, you know,
- 4:42Speaker 1: a power show or they'll have a grand slam like
- 4:45Speaker 1: we saw from Gino Suarez in the prior game. So
- 4:48Speaker 1: it's a very different looking matchup in terms of who
- 4:52Speaker 1: you're seeing on both sides for this game seven. But
- 4:54Speaker 1: to go back for a sec to Game six, this
- 4:57Speaker 1: was pretty uncharacteristic from Seattle.
- 4:59Speaker 4: An amazing defense.
- 5:00Speaker 1: They have certain players that are very good defensively, but
- 5:03Speaker 1: this was a very sloppy game for them. Defensively. It
- 5:06Speaker 1: was season n three errors and they weren't particularly sharp
- 5:10Speaker 1: on the base paths either.
- 5:12Speaker 3: No, the single, I mean the new Reva single for
- 5:16Speaker 3: JP Crawford on first, like what are we doing? Like
- 5:19Speaker 3: you got to be at least close enough to where
- 5:21Speaker 3: you can get to at least third on that ball,
- 5:23Speaker 3: he didn't even he got to second. And then obviously
- 5:25Speaker 3: cal Rawly hit into the double play. I mean they
- 5:26Speaker 3: hit into three double plays off you Savage in three
- 5:29Speaker 3: innings and all in like huge situations, and you Savage
- 5:33Speaker 3: hadn't given up a ground ball double play the whole year.
- 5:35Speaker 3: And as you know, I know it's limited, but in
- 5:37Speaker 3: his five starts previous. So it was just one of
- 5:40Speaker 3: those games where the Blue Jays are meant to win.
- 5:42Speaker 3: And yeah, the Mariners didn't play particularly well. The Julio era, Okay,
- 5:46Speaker 3: I kind of forgive that he was probably gonna get
- 5:49Speaker 3: the second anyways. The Suarez era, Okay, it happens. The
- 5:52Speaker 3: cal rallier, I trust me, I've been there. I've been
- 5:55Speaker 3: there where you just panic and you just want to
- 5:57Speaker 3: try and make a play, and he threw it away
- 5:58Speaker 3: and it led to run. That didn't cost him the game.
- 6:00Speaker 3: To me, it was the Barger home run, and it
- 6:02Speaker 3: was the Vlad home run, and it was just you,
- 6:04Speaker 3: Savage is pretty good in the failure to hit with
- 6:06Speaker 3: runners in scoring position, that's what the Airs were the errors,
- 6:09Speaker 3: and yes it helped them get a runner two, but
- 6:11Speaker 3: really it was the It was the lack of offense
- 6:14Speaker 3: that cost the Mariners in this game.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Yeah, we just showed a tweet with Brian Hoag talking
- 6:19Speaker 1: about the three dps for Seattle's offense. It wasn't just
- 6:22Speaker 1: grounding into double plays, it was s grounding into double
- 6:25Speaker 1: plays at the absolute the worst possible times.
- 6:30Speaker 4: Yes, yeah, again and again, I mean you had him
- 6:33Speaker 4: back to back.
- 6:34Speaker 2: They did it. Ray didn't.
- 6:35Speaker 3: No, they did it three innings in a row. Raley
- 6:37Speaker 3: did it. Bases loaded right and then.
- 6:42Speaker 2: The left.
- 6:42Speaker 3: He hit into the double play of the rocket to
- 6:45Speaker 3: the second baseman Jezus Crawford JP. Crawford hit into the one,
- 6:49Speaker 3: and then the next inning Julio hit into one. So
- 6:52Speaker 3: they hit into double plays three innings in a row
- 6:54Speaker 3: to end innings and the one. Listen, the first one,
- 6:56Speaker 3: the three to six one is the hardest one to turn,
- 6:58Speaker 3: and the Blue Jays did it perfectly. And I thought
- 7:00Speaker 3: Smaltz and Joe Davis did a great job by explaining,
- 7:03Speaker 3: you know he did Jim and Az didn't throw the
- 7:04Speaker 3: ball as hard as he could and gave you Savage
- 7:06Speaker 3: a chance to get over there.
- 7:08Speaker 2: But again it just came down to lack of clutch inning.
- 7:10Speaker 3: The Mariners didn't hit in the clutch tonight and the
- 7:12Speaker 3: Blue Jays did. And again, listen, aj Hinch told us
- 7:17Speaker 3: this when he played against Marriage.
- 7:18Speaker 2: You keep him in the ballpark, you're probably gonna beat him.
- 7:20Speaker 3: Yes, Naylor hit the one home run, but other than that,
- 7:23Speaker 3: if they don't again in this series is kind of
- 7:24Speaker 3: what it's been if they game five, right, the Suarez
- 7:27Speaker 3: and the Raleigh Homer, what they scored their runs off of.
- 7:30Speaker 2: You keep them in the park, you win the game.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Mm And for Trey Savage, here's Sarah Langs in a
- 7:36Speaker 1: very small sample entering this one. He had five prior starts,
- 7:41Speaker 1: no double plays coursed. This time around, you saw it
- 7:45Speaker 1: in consecutive innings, and like AJ mentioned, I mean they
- 7:48Speaker 1: were on fire. Yes, we talked about it. The splitter
- 7:52Speaker 1: was much better for you, Savage this time around.
- 7:55Speaker 2: But I meant it the first game they didn't swing
- 7:59Speaker 2: at it. Tonight they swung in a lot of them.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Right, I'm saying that last game they I think it
- 8:03Speaker 1: was they said two for three, and I mean you're like,
- 8:06Speaker 1: that's it two for three for the Mariners in the
- 8:09Speaker 1: last game because they spin.
- 8:10Speaker 4: Out a lot of them.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Agreed, they did a way better job, he Savage it
- 8:16Speaker 3: of getting the swinging up. Gosh, he threw a lot
- 8:17Speaker 3: at one point. I mean, I think they did the
- 8:19Speaker 3: When Erducci did the interview with Dan Wilson, he said,
- 8:22Speaker 3: what's seventy three percent or something or some crazy number
- 8:25Speaker 3: were off speed pitches to the to the Mariners. I mean, now,
- 8:29Speaker 3: apparently it's the game plan with tomorrow night. Guess what
- 8:31Speaker 3: when Jane Bieber takes them out and guess what they're
- 8:32Speaker 3: going to see sliders and breaking balls and curveballs, slur sweepers,
- 8:36Speaker 3: whatever the hell you want to call him. He's just
- 8:38Speaker 3: gonna be going right right until he gets his time
- 8:41Speaker 3: and then depending on the score, John Snander is gonna
- 8:43Speaker 3: be all right, next guy, right right, right, right right,
- 8:46Speaker 3: because apparently that's the game plan.
- 8:48Speaker 1: And remember Bieber didn't have the slider in the first
- 8:52Speaker 1: in that last start, and I looked flatish, and then
- 8:56Speaker 1: all of a sudden you just see him unleashing more
- 8:59Speaker 1: of them, and he was on fire for them. I mean,
- 9:01Speaker 1: it is really cool because our show covers transactions so frequently,
- 9:06Speaker 1: right it's a big part of what we do. Who's
- 9:08Speaker 1: signing who, who's trading for who. The Blue Jays aren't
- 9:12Speaker 1: here unless they trade for Shane Bieber and get a
- 9:17Speaker 1: brilliant mad Max Sure's or Start, which didn't look like
- 9:21Speaker 1: a good signing for most of the year, but I
- 9:24Speaker 1: said it. I think on Friday that start alone from
- 9:27Speaker 1: Max was worth the contract.
- 9:29Speaker 2: It was.
- 9:29Speaker 1: I mean, if that is what you needed to vault
- 9:32Speaker 1: you into this situation now where you win a Game
- 9:35Speaker 1: six and you're going to get to a Game seven
- 9:37Speaker 1: here and have a chance to get to the World Series,
- 9:39Speaker 1: then it's worth it. We were looking at them like
- 9:42Speaker 1: two ish starters, maybe three if Feaver's okay, because he
- 9:46Speaker 1: was troublesome against the Yankees, got taken out in the
- 9:48Speaker 1: third inning. And now you're like, okay, this team has three,
- 9:51Speaker 1: if not four starters that you feel pretty good about it.
- 9:53Speaker 1: If Max Sure's are suddenly going to have a curveball
- 9:56Speaker 1: that's a factor, which hasn't really been a factor for
- 9:59Speaker 1: a lo long time.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Yeah, they also have Baskett available. It's not Baskett's on
- 10:04Speaker 3: the roster for this for this, so they have another story.
- 10:07Speaker 3: They have guys that can give him link and listen.
- 10:08Speaker 3: The Shurezer star was worth it just to see his
- 10:10Speaker 3: face when John Schneider came out to take him out
- 10:12Speaker 3: and he basically told him to kick Rocks down the
- 10:13Speaker 3: street because I ain't coming out of his damn game.
- 10:16Speaker 3: I've got I'm going to the Hall of Fame. I'll
- 10:17Speaker 3: do what I want. So I have no problem with
- 10:20Speaker 3: with them signing Max Schurzer. He still can be good
- 10:23Speaker 3: when he's right and when he's healthy. So I love listen,
- 10:28Speaker 3: I love winner take all games. And here we go
- 10:30Speaker 3: Beaver versus Kirby. Let's see what you got in Toronto.
- 10:33Speaker 3: That place is going to be going freaking ape shit.
- 10:36Speaker 3: So I love it.
- 10:38Speaker 2: I freaking love it. It's awesome.
- 10:40Speaker 1: I think it's worth pointing out the stars for the
- 10:43Speaker 1: Blue Jay. So they're two best bats this year. Flattie
- 10:48Speaker 1: George Springer bo was on there too, but I think
- 10:51Speaker 1: he's a notchdown and it's crazy they're doing all of
- 10:53Speaker 1: this without Boba Schett, and they have a really solid
- 10:56Speaker 1: offense with you know, the grinders that they talk about
- 10:59Speaker 1: and the no namers that have become names for them.
- 11:01Speaker 1: But Vlattie's a half a billion dollar star and he
- 11:05Speaker 1: showed up on defense today too with that big double play.
- 11:09Speaker 1: I mean, he's a smart baseball player.
- 11:11Speaker 4: What the when he ran around?
- 11:13Speaker 2: No, he circled the pillows too. Let's not forget tonight,
- 11:16Speaker 2: right right?
- 11:16Speaker 4: He homered? Yeah, exactly.
- 11:18Speaker 1: He did a lot of good things, a lot of
- 11:19Speaker 1: smart things, and obviously showed off the pop in this game.
- 11:23Speaker 1: That's his sixth home run of the postseason. He has
- 11:26Speaker 1: been a superstar right for them. This is exactly why
- 11:30Speaker 1: they signed them. He's got the hit tool and he's
- 11:32Speaker 1: got pop.
- 11:33Speaker 4: He's a dude, he's a force.
- 11:35Speaker 1: He's such a good playoff hitter too. Do you know, like,
- 11:38Speaker 1: does that make sense to phrase up.
- 11:41Speaker 2: He's up this game? Because here here's the thing.
- 11:44Speaker 3: The thing about Lottie was all and listen, I played
- 11:46Speaker 3: against his dad in the playoffs. You can get his
- 11:48Speaker 3: dad to swing in anything, okay, but he would hit
- 11:50Speaker 3: it right. I mean you could throw balls and bounce
- 11:53Speaker 3: and hit him out of the park, okay. But the
- 11:55Speaker 3: one thing about Junior is in the playoffs he has
- 11:57Speaker 3: shrunk the zone to where he has really locked. And
- 12:00Speaker 3: this is what we always talk about with players in
- 12:02Speaker 3: the postseason. You shrink the zone because you just concentrate more.
- 12:06Speaker 3: It's every pitch means so much more, so you just
- 12:08Speaker 3: lock in. I know it shouldn't be that way, but
- 12:09Speaker 3: I'm telling you what happens. And he looks like a
- 12:12Speaker 3: different player. He's taking controlled swings, he's swinging at balls
- 12:16Speaker 3: in the strike zone. And this team doesn't strike out
- 12:18Speaker 3: a lot they get And that's the one thing they
- 12:21Speaker 3: keep saying is, you know, if you throw mediocre breaking
- 12:23Speaker 3: balls to the Blue Jays, they whack them, right, strike
- 12:26Speaker 3: breaking balls, they whack them because they don't swing and miss.
- 12:28Speaker 3: So listen, and Vlad is the leader of this, and
- 12:31Speaker 3: Vlad if they go, if Vlad goes, they go. Just
- 12:34Speaker 3: watch when if he goes out in the first thing
- 12:36Speaker 3: to Mark and he gets a hit, watch the energy
- 12:38Speaker 3: not only on that team of the Blue Jays change,
- 12:40Speaker 3: but in Rogersoner.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Watch how the energy just goes through the roof mm hm.
- 12:45Speaker 1: And for Springer, obviously he didn't get a knock, he
- 12:47Speaker 1: had a walk. It's crazy. I mean, he looks like
- 12:52Speaker 1: he's feeling it pretty good. So I guess my question
- 12:56Speaker 1: is do you think about anything differently for the next
- 12:58Speaker 1: game or you just roll them out there and hope
- 13:00Speaker 1: that he's going to be okay and he can take
- 13:01Speaker 1: some big swings for the team.
- 13:03Speaker 4: Is it?
- 13:04Speaker 1: When you're a teammate of his, are you like, okay,
- 13:09Speaker 1: this dude came to play because I mean, I don't
- 13:11Speaker 1: want to compare injuries, Like you know, Anthony Santandera ends
- 13:15Speaker 1: up going down for the rest of the season, backs
- 13:16Speaker 1: bothering him. He's had issues all year, right, and then
- 13:19Speaker 1: you look at someone like Springer and you're like, damn,
- 13:22Speaker 1: that guy got drilled with ninety seven. You know, I
- 13:25Speaker 1: just think that tracks your kneecap and he's playing back in.
- 13:30Speaker 3: Back in knee are way different though, like back you
- 13:33Speaker 3: I don't know if you ever hurt your back, but
- 13:34Speaker 3: it's like debilitating. You almost can't move right and knee.
- 13:38Speaker 3: He got hit in the knee, and I know it hurt.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Obviously it hurt. I've been hitting me plenty of times.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Right here.
- 13:43Speaker 3: Here's the thing. Springer can hit, like he looked uncomfortable
- 13:46Speaker 3: a little bit, but he can go up there and hit.
- 13:48Speaker 3: He can't play the outfield. He's the d h which
- 13:50Speaker 3: is fine, that's what they need him for. But listen,
- 13:53Speaker 3: let's just say he runs into a ball in Game seven,
- 13:56Speaker 3: it'll be all worth it. I mean then it has
- 13:58Speaker 3: what three or four days to get ready for the
- 14:00Speaker 3: World Series, So if they win, I mean, yeah, you
- 14:03Speaker 3: got to run him out there.
- 14:04Speaker 2: I'm sorry, He's just a presence. You saw the first
- 14:06Speaker 2: about of the game.
- 14:06Speaker 3: Nine pitches, nine pitch a bat, the first about of
- 14:09Speaker 3: the game, and it just sets a tone and pitchers, no,
- 14:12Speaker 3: if you make a mistake, the first pitch.
- 14:14Speaker 2: It can be one nothing and that's a big deal.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Hey, quick reminder to everyone that we're doing this live
- 14:19Speaker 1: right now recapping game six of the ALCS. We'd love
- 14:23Speaker 1: if you can hit the subscribe button. It's a simple
- 14:26Speaker 1: ask here. If you're checking us out and you don't
- 14:27Speaker 1: usually check out Foul Territory and you just stumbled upon
- 14:30Speaker 1: us or whatever, it is right on our quest for
- 14:32Speaker 1: three hundred k steps. But really appreciate everyone checking this
- 14:35Speaker 1: out right now. Hit the sub button. It'd be cool.
- 14:37Speaker 4: Anyway, let's go back to the Mariners.
- 14:41Speaker 1: I'm just checking out the chat as we're talking, and
- 14:43Speaker 1: I do want to make this clear. We'll do predictions
- 14:47Speaker 1: of some sort on Monday's live show at one o'clock Eastern.
- 14:51Speaker 1: We're not saying Seattle's dead, so top. No, there are
- 14:56Speaker 1: many roadmaps for Seattle to create to win a game.
- 15:00Speaker 4: For game seven, and they won, you can say, oh man,
- 15:03Speaker 4: but now like.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Toronto's got the momentum and they're home. Okay, how did
- 15:08Speaker 1: the first two games of this series go?
- 15:10Speaker 3: No, No, I cannot disagree. I cannot disagree with the
- 15:16Speaker 3: Toronto has.
- 15:16Speaker 2: All the momentum in this series.
- 15:18Speaker 3: Because if there's one thing we've learned in this series,
- 15:20Speaker 3: nobody has any clue what the hell's gonna happen. Everyone
- 15:22Speaker 3: would have said, oh, this team's gonna win, this team's
- 15:24Speaker 3: gonna win. Nobody has any idea what's gonna happen andmore.
- 15:26Speaker 2: That's what makes Game seven so great. Who's gonna pitch?
- 15:28Speaker 2: We know who's gonna start. We don't know how long
- 15:30Speaker 2: they're gonna go. We don't know who's gonna get the
- 15:32Speaker 2: big hit.
- 15:32Speaker 3: Is it gonna be Ernie Clement shanking went over the
- 15:35Speaker 3: first baseman's head for a double. Is it gonna be
- 15:38Speaker 3: Gino Suarez hitting a Grand Slam? Is it gonna be
- 15:41Speaker 3: you know, Leo Revos down there like he did in
- 15:44Speaker 3: Game five.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Tying it up.
- 15:45Speaker 3: You just never know, and that's what's awesome. But yeah,
- 15:47Speaker 3: as far as momentum, the momentum, Tom Kelly used to
- 15:49Speaker 3: say this, it's an old bit baseball term. Momentum is
- 15:52Speaker 3: only good as your next day starting pitcher. And you
- 15:53Speaker 3: know what, Trey Savage out pitch Logan Gilbert. That's why
- 15:55Speaker 3: the Blue Jays won. Look at who's done better. Usually
- 15:58Speaker 3: that's the team that wins. So it's gonna come down
- 16:01Speaker 3: to who gets the best start, who can get the
- 16:02Speaker 3: most outside of their starter usually, and then who's healthy
- 16:06Speaker 3: enough in the bullpen and not exhausted enough because these
- 16:08Speaker 3: guys have all been used a ton, and the high
- 16:10Speaker 3: leverage guys for both these teams. So I don't know,
- 16:14Speaker 3: I don't know what's going to happen, but I'm looking
- 16:15Speaker 3: forward to it, and I just wish it started a
- 16:16Speaker 3: little bit earlier, just so you know.
- 16:18Speaker 2: It's late on the East coast for good. It's old,
- 16:21Speaker 2: it is. Hey.
- 16:22Speaker 1: The only thing I'll say to make you feel a
- 16:24Speaker 1: little bit better is remember what this looked like three
- 16:29Speaker 1: was it three years ago?
- 16:30Speaker 4: And beyond?
- 16:31Speaker 1: I mean, I've been part of an as of you
- 16:34Speaker 1: long games broadcast wise, coverage wise, pre post, all that
- 16:37Speaker 1: kind of stuff, and obviously it's fun, but we get
- 16:39Speaker 1: all of that action packed into about three hours versus
- 16:43Speaker 1: a game five or a game seven.
- 16:45Speaker 4: It's super cool, but it would be like four and
- 16:47Speaker 4: a half plus.
- 16:49Speaker 1: You can be like, oh, well, you just then you
- 16:50Speaker 1: don't like baseball enough, Like, no, it doesn't have anything
- 16:53Speaker 1: to do with that. Like I want to see the
- 16:54Speaker 1: action packed into a certain time period and not every
- 16:57Speaker 1: moment be dragged out where you know.
- 17:00Speaker 4: People start like, okay, let's go. So that's me. I
- 17:04Speaker 4: do like the way like the pace is playing.
- 17:06Speaker 1: And I remember it was a discussion at one point like, oh, well,
- 17:09Speaker 1: it's going to mess up the big moments, right, You're
- 17:11Speaker 1: not gonna have that.
- 17:11Speaker 4: It really hasn't messed up the big moment moment.
- 17:14Speaker 1: But what you need in an extra forty seconds for
- 17:16Speaker 1: batting gloves to be readjusted again in a game five
- 17:20Speaker 1: or a game seven, right, depending on a series, for
- 17:22Speaker 1: you to feel really good about it. I feel like
- 17:24Speaker 1: there's plenty of tension that builds. There's still plenty of
- 17:26Speaker 1: mountain visits and pitching changes, and we're good, so it'll
- 17:30Speaker 1: be nice. Hey, on the Dodger fan side, you're excited,
- 17:35Speaker 1: I guess because you're getting this to seven, but both
- 17:38Speaker 1: teams get plenty of rest. What are you thinking heading
- 17:41Speaker 1: into Game seven if you're a fan of the Dodgers, Like,
- 17:44Speaker 1: do you think there's a team that they match up
- 17:47Speaker 1: better than?
- 17:48Speaker 2: Oh?
- 17:48Speaker 4: Perfect? Jay blank?
- 17:49Speaker 1: Dropping this in as a Dodger fan, I don't know
- 17:51Speaker 1: who I want to face. It's a good call. I mean,
- 17:55Speaker 1: the Mariners lineup has more pop. Lu Jay's lineup seems
- 18:01Speaker 1: more pesky. The Mariners have a better bullpen.
- 18:06Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Now with the starting pitching tale of the tape because
- 18:10Speaker 1: of the way some of the Mariners starters have looked
- 18:13Speaker 1: like on paper, it's it's definitely edge Mariners.
- 18:16Speaker 4: But I don't know. If you're a Dodger fan, who
- 18:18Speaker 4: do you want to see?
- 18:20Speaker 3: You know, my honest opinion doesn't matter. Where have I
- 18:23Speaker 3: had the Dodgers in my power rankings the entire season.
- 18:26Speaker 4: You just think they're gonna just run through whatever.
- 18:28Speaker 3: I don't know they're gonna I don't know if they're
- 18:30Speaker 3: gonna run through them. But I just think they're the
- 18:32Speaker 3: best team. I think they're they're healthy at the right
- 18:34Speaker 3: time now, and everyone's gonna.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Say, oh, but they're gonna get all this time off. Listen.
- 18:38Speaker 3: These guys aren't young guys. They're not They're veteran guys
- 18:40Speaker 3: that know how to prep themselves. Dave Roberts has been
- 18:43Speaker 3: through this. The Dodgers have been through this a million times.
- 18:46Speaker 3: I just feel like it doesn't it shouldn't matter. If
- 18:48Speaker 3: you're a Dodgers fan, you should just be like, Okay,
- 18:50Speaker 3: we've got here. We got through the hardest part. And
- 18:53Speaker 3: now we go and now we have a chance to
- 18:55Speaker 3: win the World Series. So yeah, Honestly, if I'm the Dodgers,
- 18:59Speaker 3: I'd face I'd rather face the Blue Jays because their
- 19:02Speaker 3: starting pitchers are a little bit less than what the
- 19:04Speaker 3: Mariners possibly can be and the bullpen is a little
- 19:07Speaker 3: less than what the Mariner bullpen can be.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Okay, and hey, the Mariners can change some games with
- 19:15Speaker 1: one swing, not that the Blue Jays can't.
- 19:16Speaker 4: But there's definitely more.
- 19:18Speaker 2: PA's more depth.
- 19:19Speaker 3: There's more power depth in the Blue Jays lineup than
- 19:22Speaker 3: there is in the in the sorry, in the Mariners
- 19:25Speaker 3: lineup than there is in the Blue Jays lineup.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Right, Hey, one thing I want to make sure we mentioned,
- 19:30Speaker 1: since we weren't on after Game five Jeff Hoffman. Should
- 19:37Speaker 1: he have been in there? And then what about the
- 19:40Speaker 1: way he was used in Game six?
- 19:42Speaker 4: Just now?
- 19:44Speaker 1: And how that could you know, make him less effective
- 19:47Speaker 1: or whatever. Obviously he's going to be available, he'll pitch
- 19:49Speaker 1: if need be. Now is he going to go to innings?
- 19:54Speaker 1: It might be asking a.
- 19:55Speaker 4: Lot of it.
- 19:56Speaker 3: I doubt it, but I think if he can give
- 19:57Speaker 3: him one inning and be effective. How was used in
- 20:00Speaker 3: game five. I mean, listen, John Steinder knows this team better.
- 20:04Speaker 3: I understand why he wanted to flip cal Ralely around,
- 20:07Speaker 3: because you know, Little hadn't given up home runs and
- 20:10Speaker 3: this and that.
- 20:10Speaker 2: But cal Raly, if you look at his stats, he.
- 20:12Speaker 3: Hit more, way more homers as a righty per at
- 20:14Speaker 3: bat than he did as a lefty. I think he
- 20:16Speaker 3: hit thirty two as a lefty in twenty eight or
- 20:18Speaker 3: something like that as a righty some number like that,
- 20:21Speaker 3: but he got way less at bats as his right
- 20:22Speaker 3: handed hitter.
- 20:24Speaker 2: So listen and again listen that game that only tied
- 20:28Speaker 2: the game, right.
- 20:29Speaker 3: The problem is after that the walks of where it
- 20:32Speaker 3: killed them, and then they fell behind, and then Ginosuarez
- 20:34Speaker 3: came up and hit the home the grand slam that
- 20:35Speaker 3: put that game away.
- 20:36Speaker 2: But I had no problem with the way he deployed it.
- 20:39Speaker 3: I think he was just trying to get through that
- 20:41Speaker 3: and then he was He knew he had hoffmin for
- 20:43Speaker 3: the ninth. But you know, it's always easy to say, oh,
- 20:45Speaker 3: he should have had Hoffman throw two winnings. What happens
- 20:47Speaker 3: if Hoffman gives up that home run in the eighth,
- 20:49Speaker 3: you know, and then maybe his confidence is shot.
- 20:51Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 20:52Speaker 3: It's it's always easy to look back and say, oh,
- 20:55Speaker 3: he should have done this, he should have done that.
- 20:56Speaker 2: How do we know? Maybe Hoffmin was sick. Maybe Hoffman
- 20:59Speaker 2: I don't know, Oh got bit by a mosquito or something.
- 21:01Speaker 2: I don't know, like who knows. Well.
- 21:03Speaker 4: He also gave the explanation.
- 21:05Speaker 1: I mean, they don't have as much confidence in him
- 21:08Speaker 1: as some of the most dominant closers in the sport.
- 21:11Speaker 1: And I think that's fair. I mean, I don't know
- 21:14Speaker 1: if the explanation made sense, Like he gives up Homer's like, Okay, yeah,
- 21:19Speaker 1: there's definitely some risk there. But it's not like he's
- 21:22Speaker 1: a bad picture. It's just that the way that runs
- 21:24Speaker 1: are given up by Hoffman r via home run. So
- 21:28Speaker 1: Brendan Little, I mean, has had his moments in the postseason.
- 21:31Speaker 1: I don't know if he's going to be in the
- 21:32Speaker 1: circle of trust after that mess of a three batters
- 21:35Speaker 1: that he faced. But I see what John Schneider's saying
- 21:39Speaker 1: in my mind, AJ is that this isn't a top.
- 21:41Speaker 4: Ten relief ace in our sport.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Right in some cases, you're like, you know, like in
- 21:47Speaker 1: the in the Dodgers Phillies series in the NLDS, there
- 21:50Speaker 1: was at least one or two spots, especially I think
- 21:52Speaker 1: it was Game four. Maybe we're like, Okay, Duran's got
- 21:54Speaker 1: to come in now. You know, you can't wait, You've
- 21:56Speaker 1: got to come in right now, Like this is the
- 21:58Speaker 1: inning where you need to shut it down.
- 21:59Speaker 4: You worry about later later.
- 22:00Speaker 1: I don't know if that's the way that the Blue
- 22:02Speaker 1: Jays bullpen is constructed, where it's like there's that one
- 22:05Speaker 1: guy like okay.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Agreed, agreed a million percent with you. There's not that one.
- 22:10Speaker 3: I mean, Haffin has been the guy that has closed
- 22:12Speaker 3: the games at the end of the year, but he's
- 22:14Speaker 3: not the guy that you look at and he I
- 22:18Speaker 3: like Haffman. So I don't want to This is not
- 22:20Speaker 3: bad mouthing. I'm just saying, no, he's not the guy
- 22:23Speaker 3: that strikes fearing. He's not Mariano Rivera, he's not Eric
- 22:26Speaker 3: Ganie when he was doing his thing right. He's not
- 22:29Speaker 3: Trevor Hoffman, he's not you know whoever you want to
- 22:33Speaker 3: He's not class A last year when you were like, man,
- 22:35Speaker 3: nobody can hit this dude.
- 22:37Speaker 2: So yeah, he's not.
- 22:38Speaker 3: The guy that you know if you look out there
- 22:40Speaker 3: and you say, okay, Jeff Hoffman's warming up, all right, Well,
- 22:42Speaker 3: maybe somebody can run into one here. He could punch
- 22:44Speaker 3: us out, but we also could run into one. And
- 22:46Speaker 3: we saw him struggle in the postseason last year. So
- 22:48Speaker 3: there is a little history there. But if you're the
- 22:51Speaker 3: Blue Jays and you got a one room league, guess
- 22:53Speaker 3: who's getting the ball? Affman and you better just hope
- 22:55Speaker 3: he doesn't give up a homer.
- 22:57Speaker 1: And if you're the Blue Jays and you're in a
- 22:59Speaker 1: tight spot and the fifth or sixth inning and.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Louis arlanstraight Louis no matter what I mean, it is. Remember,
- 23:08Speaker 3: and when he was traded, everybody was like, what are
- 23:10Speaker 3: they doing? Louis Varland?
- 23:12Speaker 2: Who is this guy? Right?
- 23:13Speaker 3: And everyone in the Twins is like, why are we
- 23:14Speaker 3: giving up Louis Varland? He's been pretty good, He's got
- 23:17Speaker 3: like four more years of control. We're giving him up
- 23:19Speaker 3: for nothing. So, I mean, great trade by the Blue Jays.
- 23:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I think Farland's still a league mid guy, right.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Yeah, he's like in his second year or something.
- 23:28Speaker 4: Yeah, he's still a league mid guy.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Yeah, that's crazy, right, based on service time here, I
- 23:33Speaker 1: mean he's he's actually been up and down, I think
- 23:35Speaker 1: for since twenty twenty two, but it's it's low. It's
- 23:40Speaker 1: low enough that I think he's still a league minimum guy.
- 23:43Speaker 1: I gotta double check that, but I believe I'm accurate there.
- 23:46Speaker 2: I know he's got a lot.
- 23:47Speaker 3: I know he has years of control remaining, because I
- 23:49Speaker 3: remember when he got traded. Everybody's like, why are the
- 23:51Speaker 3: Twins trading that guy? He's got all kinds of all
- 23:53Speaker 3: kinds of you know, controllable years left and never twins.
- 23:56Speaker 2: People are like, oh, we don't know.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Yeah, earliest are eligible twin twenty seven. So good for Toronto.
- 24:03Speaker 1: I mean, that's exactly what you want to do. I
- 24:06Speaker 1: think that's all we got for this one. And if
- 24:09Speaker 1: you have questions thoughts for us, good news. We do
- 24:11Speaker 1: a two hour show every weekday, so we're gonna get
- 24:14Speaker 1: some rest. I'm gonna fly down there. We'll do the
- 24:17Speaker 1: show in Orlando on Monday afternoon, one o'clock, a two
- 24:21Speaker 1: hour show. Not winter Park, not Winter Park, different spot.
- 24:26Speaker 1: But that's Logan Gilbert spot, and that.
- 24:29Speaker 3: That's a lot where he's from, which is funny. If
- 24:31Speaker 3: you watch a show, you know that he explained he's
- 24:33Speaker 3: not from winter.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Park type logan Gilbert into YouTube type logan Gilbert foul Territory.
- 24:38Speaker 4: And then you can watch the conversation.
- 24:40Speaker 1: It was good, and Logan and Trey Savage will be
- 24:43Speaker 1: the only guys that are definitely not pitching in Game seven,
- 24:47Speaker 1: otherwise it's gonna be crazy. We'll get more in terms
- 24:50Speaker 1: of how things could play out in term, you know,
- 24:53Speaker 1: quotes and stuff postgame and pregame that we'll talk about
- 24:56Speaker 1: as much as possible on the one o'clock show. We
- 24:58Speaker 1: do know George Kirby is going to art that one
- 25:00Speaker 1: that was announced right away right afterwards. We'll look forward
- 25:03Speaker 1: to that. Joe Girardi scheduled to join the one o'clock
- 25:06Speaker 1: East Coast Times Show, so that conversation will go in
- 25:09Speaker 1: a number of directions.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Is he did he managing any winner take all games?
- 25:13Speaker 2: Joe Girardi.
- 25:15Speaker 1: My guess is yes, just based on how much time
- 25:18Speaker 1: he spent.
- 25:19Speaker 2: He had to play play games. He had to play
- 25:21Speaker 2: it too.
- 25:23Speaker 1: I mean he's played in so many he played in
- 25:24Speaker 1: so many postseason games.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, I don't know.
- 25:28Speaker 3: I'm just well, he was on those good, those really
- 25:29Speaker 3: good Yankee teams just won it in like three games
- 25:32Speaker 3: so I don't know.
- 25:33Speaker 2: That's why I kind of asked that question.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Yeah, and I mean the Yankees are in the playoffs
- 25:37Speaker 1: almost every year. You manage the Yankees for a long
- 25:39Speaker 1: period of time. So oh yeah. Twenty seventeen, ALCS was
- 25:43Speaker 1: at the end for Joe Girardi and that was Game
- 25:47Speaker 1: seven against the trash Can Astros.
- 25:51Speaker 2: I think that they lost. They lost that game.
- 25:53Speaker 3: That was in that the al Tuove homer game where
- 25:54Speaker 3: he wouldn't take a shirt off. Isn't that the whole
- 25:57Speaker 3: That was the whole thing that started that conspiracy?
- 25:59Speaker 1: That was twenty nineteen twenty Yeah, twenty seventeen, he is right, No, twenty.
- 26:07Speaker 4: Seventeen when he didn't take it off.
- 26:09Speaker 1: No, twenty seventeen was when they cheated and we didn't
- 26:12Speaker 1: find out about it until what twenty nineteen, and we
- 26:15Speaker 1: had already known there was an issue, and that's when
- 26:18Speaker 1: speculation was buzzing about them in general, and then it.
- 26:21Speaker 2: Was buzzing twenty nine. That was funny. That's a good wordplay, buzzing.
- 26:26Speaker 1: But exactly, thank you. That was completely by accident. Yes,
- 26:29Speaker 1: he was fired twenty seventeen. But anyway, I'm getting off topic.
- 26:32Speaker 1: We're gonna talk to Joe tomorrow. We'll talk about, you know,
- 26:35Speaker 1: a lot of things with him, including Yanks and Phillies
- 26:37Speaker 1: and then this scenario that's playing out here this Game seven.
- 26:40Speaker 1: So thanks for watching everyone, and also you can watch
- 26:44Speaker 1: the next game, Game seven on the new Fox one

- 27:02Speaker 1: weeks here of the postseason cover John foul Territory. We
