- 1:26Speaker 1: Welcome to the show. Big episode because we have Tennessee
- 1:29Speaker 1: coach Rick Barnes Tennessee basketball, which is pretty cool, and
- 1:33Speaker 1: I got to go, hey, why an't you having us over? Yeah, Mike,
- 1:36Speaker 1: you telling us no, got him? Got him? And then
- 1:39Speaker 1: we'll talk NFL draft with Dane Brugler, who does the Beast.
- 1:43Speaker 1: It is the most extensive draft situation in all the sports.
- 1:47Speaker 1: And I'm an. I subscribe to the Athletics, so I
- 1:49Speaker 1: read it. So that's coming up. Now, Masters is happening. Now,
- 1:53Speaker 1: love it? Yeah, I was just gonna gage your excitement level.
- 1:56Speaker 3: I love it, dude. I love the Masters. My favorite
- 1:58Speaker 3: golf tournament. I would even say, like right after March Madness,
- 2:02Speaker 3: that's probably my second biggest sports event that I love
- 2:05Speaker 3: to watch.
- 2:06Speaker 1: But do you love Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday? Oh yeah,
- 2:09Speaker 1: because I love Sunday. Oh no, I love the starting day.
- 2:12Speaker 1: I like to bet who's gonna miss the cut. It
- 2:15Speaker 1: was just a negative bet, you know, Like I realized
- 2:17Speaker 1: later after doing it, like four years in a row,
- 2:19Speaker 1: I should probably not do that bet because it just
- 2:21Speaker 1: make me feel good to bet on the misses. Yeah, oh,
- 2:23Speaker 1: you're the guy at the crash table who bets on
- 2:25Speaker 1: the don't pass.
- 2:26Speaker 3: I know it's usually Tiger that I picked, but he's
- 2:28Speaker 3: not playing this year, so it was a little tougher.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a gross one.
- 2:33Speaker 3: I should really stop doing that.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Okay, Yeah, I'm I'm in a couple of like pools,
- 2:38Speaker 1: Like friends have had Masters pools, and you have like
- 2:40Speaker 1: a salary cap and you pick players within the salary cap.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Who was your your main, your big your big.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Dog Rory Because he wasn't the most expensive, but I
- 2:48Speaker 1: think he was second or third. Did you did you bet?
- 2:51Speaker 3: I did?
- 2:51Speaker 4: I know.
- 2:52Speaker 3: I did a pool too. Mine was Scheffler.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I just feel like he was the most expensive. Yeah,
- 2:56Speaker 1: he's a favorite.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Yeah, And it's it's like when you look at the Masters,
- 2:59Speaker 3: there are I don't know one hundred and fifty players.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Like there's so many people on the leader board on
- 3:05Speaker 3: Thursdays that like it's pretty easy for like one of
- 3:08Speaker 3: those middle guys to be a top ten player.
- 3:12Speaker 1: It's hard to win betting golf.
- 3:13Speaker 3: It's tough.
- 3:14Speaker 1: I've struggled because there's so many players, so many players,
- 3:16Speaker 1: and it's also like the best kid just be off, yeah,
- 3:18Speaker 1: like be having a bad day or get arrested.
- 3:21Speaker 4: True.
- 3:22Speaker 3: You know what's really tough about this now is that,
- 3:24Speaker 3: like you try to study golf all year, right, Like,
- 3:27Speaker 3: say you're a golf fan, you watch PGA live. Really
- 3:30Speaker 3: isn't on TV as much. I think it's on CW, Like,
- 3:33Speaker 3: really don't watch live. So you look at PGA right
- 3:36Speaker 3: every week, Rory Scheffler, More Kawa, those guys are the
- 3:40Speaker 3: ones leading those tournaments. But then you get the Masters
- 3:44Speaker 3: and you get everyone comes back. You got Sergio Garcia back,
- 3:46Speaker 3: you got John romback, Deshambau and so now you're just like,
- 3:50Speaker 3: I don't even know who's good anymore. I haven't seen
- 3:53Speaker 3: Deschambaud play in a long time.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Because he's playing live.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Yeah, so I don't know.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Here the sixth in the pool that we had ad
- 3:59Speaker 1: r Morecawa mats Yama speeth burns because I played with him.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, that's literally.
- 4:07Speaker 1: See, you got all PGA guys and Maxholma, who's not
- 4:10Speaker 1: he's a PGA guy. He's a lived guy.
- 4:12Speaker 3: No, he's a he's a PGA guy. Hasn't really been
- 4:14Speaker 3: playing well lately though.
- 4:15Speaker 1: He's be playing terrible lately. Yeah, he doesn't live at all.
- 4:18Speaker 4: Huh.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Ever maybe at the beginning, but no, he's PGA guy.
- 4:21Speaker 1: I know he's been playing. I already interview with him
- 4:23Speaker 1: and he's like, I suck, Yeah, he says that. Yeah,
- 4:26Speaker 1: he's like a living sucking Yeah, yeah, I wonder what
- 4:29Speaker 1: that is, Like, I'm sure it's mental. Of course. I
- 4:32Speaker 1: think it's all mental.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Because those guys are just good. I always I.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Didn't invite you to play golf. Eddie wasn't able to play,
- 4:36Speaker 1: like I can't if I've played golf at all, and
- 4:38Speaker 1: I've got two golf tournaments coming up, celebty golf tournaments.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Got a play.
- 4:42Speaker 3: You gotta get warmed up.
- 4:43Speaker 1: I haven't played at all in like a year, and if.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Sometimes you're better like that, though, like you haven't not
- 4:49Speaker 3: really really not really.
- 4:51Speaker 5: No.
- 4:52Speaker 3: It's like sometimes when I don't play for like three
- 4:54Speaker 3: months and I go back and play, I'm like, wow,
- 4:56Speaker 3: like not bad, but I.
- 4:57Speaker 1: But I can't play eighteen holes good after not playing
- 4:59Speaker 1: at all. So I was like, hey, you wanna play
- 5:01Speaker 1: play Friday, and he's like, I can't.
- 5:04Speaker 3: My mom is coming down to birthday.
- 5:06Speaker 1: I'm a member of club. I haven't been once really
- 5:09Speaker 1: since they opened back up. They opened up over a
- 5:12Speaker 1: year ago, so I think I've been three times in
- 5:14Speaker 1: a year and a half. Remember it was it last
- 5:16Speaker 1: year two years ago. That's all weird. We've been doing
- 5:19Speaker 1: it all the time. I now have been more of
- 5:21Speaker 1: a pickleball guy for a couple of reasons. One because
- 5:23Speaker 1: it's a workout. Two it's only an hour not four. Yeah,
- 5:28Speaker 1: it's hard for it. It's really with all these podcasts
- 5:30Speaker 1: I have taken on and luckily the Yellowstone's over and
- 5:34Speaker 1: there's it's getting slight. It's just hard to have four
- 5:37Speaker 1: hours in the day. Yeah, so it's like a twelve
- 5:40Speaker 1: whole course.
- 5:42Speaker 3: That's stupid.
- 5:42Speaker 1: No, that's what you could just you could just go
- 5:45Speaker 1: play nine home camp play. No, that's like not quite enough.
- 5:48Speaker 1: I need a little bit more.
- 5:50Speaker 3: It's the same thing as twelve. You're not finishing your game.
- 5:52Speaker 3: It's like playing like four innings of a game and
- 5:55Speaker 3: being like I'm done.
- 5:55Speaker 6: Like fifteen through eighteen, You're like, all right, we almost
- 5:58Speaker 6: through it. Here we go like because it's pretty dumb,
- 6:01Speaker 6: I'll be honest. You can just go play nine if
- 6:04Speaker 6: you wanted to do. It's just so it just takes
- 6:06Speaker 6: so long.
- 6:06Speaker 3: And I love the game.
- 6:08Speaker 1: I love golf. I have a golf simulator. I haven't
- 6:10Speaker 1: used it forever been We now just basically use it
- 6:14Speaker 1: for our lots to say podcast, for like our background
- 6:16Speaker 1: of it setup. But I have friends that are members
- 6:18Speaker 1: of like golf simulator clubs.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, I have one of those two. He
- 6:22Speaker 3: keeps inviting me, and I'm like, and the way he
- 6:24Speaker 3: phrases it kind of irks me because he's like, you
- 6:26Speaker 3: want to play golf on Friday? You mean you're a
- 6:28Speaker 3: little simulator club that's not playing golf ball, that's getting balls.
- 6:33Speaker 1: I had a friend that was like, Hey, do you
- 6:34Speaker 1: want to come and play on the simulator at the club,
- 6:36Speaker 1: And I'm like, I have a simulator.
- 6:39Speaker 3: I got my own club.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Yeah, like thirty yards back there, like you can come
- 6:42Speaker 1: over here with you.
- 6:43Speaker 3: He's like, that's another thing too. Does he call it
- 6:45Speaker 3: like I'm a member a remember at a club?
- 6:47Speaker 1: He said, I'm a member of a simulator club if
- 6:51Speaker 1: you want to come and play, like if the weather's bad.
- 6:53Speaker 1: And I said, oh that's interesting, that's cool. What why
- 6:57Speaker 1: did you join? He goes, because there's food and stuff
- 6:59Speaker 1: and I said, oh that is cool. I said, well,
- 7:01Speaker 1: I have a simulator, so probably unless you just want
- 7:04Speaker 1: like hang out and go do it. But like if
- 7:06Speaker 1: it's just about playing on a simulator, like I have one, yeah,
- 7:09Speaker 1: it's probably better than that one.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Probably, But it's just funny and they like, like my
- 7:15Speaker 3: buddy is just like, yeah, man, I'm a member of
- 7:17Speaker 3: a club. You want to play on Friday? And like
- 7:18Speaker 3: it's a simulator club. It's just and I haven't gone yet.
- 7:21Speaker 3: I might really like it. Maybe the vibe.
- 7:23Speaker 1: That's a real thing.
- 7:24Speaker 3: It's a real thing.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Oh I thought they were saying it like as a joke. No,
- 7:27Speaker 1: there's like places could have like four or five simulators
- 7:30Speaker 1: maybe more in a room, man, like a bar in
- 7:32Speaker 1: a restaurant. God, yeah, that's what that And it's a club.
- 7:35Speaker 3: And you pay for a membership and you can play
- 7:37Speaker 3: set of tea time whenever you want.
- 7:39Speaker 1: I mean, for the right press. You did it at
- 7:40Speaker 1: my house. Guys, you start your Uh so, would you
- 7:46Speaker 1: rather win? What? What championship? Would you have? All the championships,
- 7:51Speaker 1: which one would you want?
- 7:52Speaker 3: I'll go Masters. I go Masters because that's mine, Like,
- 7:55Speaker 3: I want that, baby, I don't have to share that
- 7:57Speaker 3: with a team. Like you wear the green jacket. The
- 8:01Speaker 3: whole thing is pretty awesome if you win the Masters.
- 8:03Speaker 1: It's funny because I don't. I wouldn't have gone there
- 8:05Speaker 1: at first, just on the surface. But I think you're
- 8:09Speaker 1: right about that the team part, because if you're unless
- 8:12Speaker 1: you're the quarterback or a star player and you win,
- 8:17Speaker 1: you know, you win super Bowl. Okay, cool, you won,
- 8:20Speaker 1: but your team won and you're a former super Bowl champion.
- 8:24Speaker 1: But of the team, unless you're Mahomes, That's what I'm saying, Like, yeah,
- 8:29Speaker 1: so it's different. Yeah, I think it's I think you've
- 8:33Speaker 1: convinced me. It's the I think I would you do
- 8:35Speaker 1: Masters or like another time, maybe Masters because it's America
- 8:38Speaker 1: and it's the most prestigious and you get that that
- 8:41Speaker 1: green jacket and some of the other tournaments like do
- 8:42Speaker 1: fake jackets, like plaid jackets or whatever. But it's nothing's
- 8:45Speaker 1: like nothing's like the Master and you're a member there
- 8:47Speaker 1: and you can do your meal the next year and.
- 8:49Speaker 3: You get to play even when you're a hundred years old.
- 8:51Speaker 1: And you have your own driving range over in Augusta.
- 8:53Speaker 1: You what, Yeah, tell me past champions have their own
- 8:56Speaker 1: driving range, like their own lane that they can know
- 8:59Speaker 1: their own driving range. So there is by the way,
- 9:01Speaker 1: they can't be called the driving range on television. The
- 9:02Speaker 1: announcers have been told it's called like the something practice facility.
- 9:06Speaker 1: They're not called fans. You'll not hear the announcers call
- 9:08Speaker 1: them fans. They're called maybe spectators. Maybe spectators. There's a
- 9:13Speaker 1: word they have to use.
- 9:14Speaker 3: Why rule.
- 9:16Speaker 1: The Masters get to make all the rules because the
- 9:18Speaker 1: Masters charge nothing for television. The network gets up for free.
- 9:24Speaker 1: But in exchange they have to do everything that the
- 9:25Speaker 1: Master says, and the Masters make all the money off
- 9:28Speaker 1: merch and stuff.
- 9:28Speaker 6: Yeah, that's telling me that they do the track like
- 9:30Speaker 6: everything that they do as far as food and all
- 9:32Speaker 6: that is green.
- 9:33Speaker 1: So somebody drops like a rapper, it's that's lens in.
- 9:35Speaker 1: That's not true. I mean, I've been there, so now
- 9:38Speaker 1: I've never.
- 9:38Speaker 6: Heard that, because then you can on TV like it
- 9:40Speaker 6: looks like it's as clean as possible, because even if
- 9:42Speaker 6: there is trash, it's green.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Do you know why it's plain because nobody freaking puts
- 9:45Speaker 1: trash on the ground.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Yeah, and you can't take your phone in there, is
- 9:48Speaker 3: that right?
- 9:49Speaker 1: No, you can't take your phone. If you do, if
- 9:50Speaker 1: it comes out of your pocket, you're out.
- 9:51Speaker 4: Whoa.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Yeah, so you can put it and you can bag it.
- 9:55Speaker 1: When we went we just kept in our pockets, but
- 10:01Speaker 1: we didn't even think about pulling it out because if
- 10:03Speaker 1: you they see a phone, you're out of there.
- 10:04Speaker 3: And did they tell you that when you go in
- 10:06Speaker 3: or do you just know that or is there.
- 10:08Speaker 1: A sign up front? But I think it's mostly just known.
- 10:12Speaker 1: I won't even say understood. It's such that that's a
- 10:14Speaker 1: very it's a glaring rule no phones, and so it's
- 10:18Speaker 1: cool though the food is cheap. The food's very cheap, right,
- 10:22Speaker 1: The food is inexpensive. It's it's pretty good and it's inexpensive.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Everything is pretty inexpensive. But they make all their money
- 10:27Speaker 1: off the pro shop. It's it's printing money. Yes, so
- 10:32Speaker 1: but it's cool.
- 10:33Speaker 3: What did you get when you went? Did you stay
- 10:35Speaker 3: at a hole or did you walk around? How did
- 10:37Speaker 3: you watch it?
- 10:38Speaker 1: So if you get there when they first opened the gates,
- 10:41Speaker 1: you have your chairs, your master's chairs, and it's the
- 10:45Speaker 1: same chair. They don't. There's not even like a different
- 10:47Speaker 1: kinds of chairs.
- 10:48Speaker 3: It's one kind of chair.
- 10:49Speaker 1: I believe, I believe. So you have price to buy.
- 10:52Speaker 1: I don't remember that. We didn't have one, but everybody
- 10:54Speaker 1: had them and they ran and they put them on greens. Now,
- 10:57Speaker 1: if you got a spot with your chair, you don't
- 10:58Speaker 1: have to stay in the chair, but no one could
- 10:59Speaker 1: have spot. That's your seat.
- 11:01Speaker 3: That's cool.
- 11:02Speaker 1: So when they open the gates, everybody goes. But it's
- 11:04Speaker 1: like you open a theme park, a bunch of kids running.
- 11:07Speaker 1: You open that, it's a bunch of like middle aged men.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Yeah, you know people.
- 11:10Speaker 1: So you can do that. Then you can sit it
- 11:12Speaker 1: a green if you otherwise you're not really going to
- 11:14Speaker 1: be at a green unless you're like eight rows deep.
- 11:16Speaker 1: So we at first tried to walk like we just
- 11:18Speaker 1: wanted to see tiger. We wanted to see, but it's
- 11:20Speaker 1: so packed around them following that so hard to see
- 11:24Speaker 1: and it's really hard to watch golf in person at
- 11:26Speaker 1: a driving ring from the tea box because you can't
- 11:28Speaker 1: really see where they hit. They just hit and you
- 11:30Speaker 1: go okay.
- 11:32Speaker 3: Because everyone else is.
- 11:33Speaker 1: You can't see where they hit. You can't see the ball. Yeah, tiny,
- 11:37Speaker 1: Did you ever do the get in the hole? No,
- 11:40Speaker 1: you don't really do that at the Masters. I'm sure
- 11:42Speaker 1: that they might, but you don't. It's it's a percentage
- 11:46Speaker 1: of what it is in other places.
- 11:47Speaker 3: I've always said that if I went to like go
- 11:49Speaker 3: see Tiger, I do a Tiger after the hit.
- 11:51Speaker 1: You probably wouldn't. No, not there because everybody's scared to
- 11:54Speaker 1: get kicked out because they don't care. And also it's
- 11:58Speaker 1: like a fancy place. It's fancy, yeah, fancy. And so
- 12:01Speaker 1: we then sat at a hole after we walked around
- 12:04Speaker 1: a bit, just sat at a hole and let right
- 12:07Speaker 1: at a green part three and just watched them hit down.
- 12:10Speaker 1: We got an elevated spots. We won't ride on the green,
- 12:12Speaker 1: but elevated so you could see down on it. And
- 12:14Speaker 1: then yeah, we just sit there and gambled the whole time,
- 12:16Speaker 1: and it was cool. The difficult part is you don't
- 12:19Speaker 1: really know where everybody is as far as the scoring,
- 12:22Speaker 1: because you don't have your phones and they don't have
- 12:24Speaker 1: a bunch of electronic scoreboards around. You have to like
- 12:26Speaker 1: sign you have to like find the main couple of
- 12:28Speaker 1: scoreboards or they walk around with a group. They do
- 12:31Speaker 1: have that on the group, but then you only know
- 12:32Speaker 1: two people. You only know the people the two people
- 12:34Speaker 1: that are in the group. So the difficult party about
- 12:36Speaker 1: that is knowing how did they know?
- 12:40Speaker 3: Like whenever you see like microphones on shirts, Oh really,
- 12:44Speaker 3: they tell them yeah.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Yeah, people that are there, like you know, Bertie, they
- 12:48Speaker 1: just shouted with a megafi at eight.
- 12:50Speaker 3: I was thought, like you know, like Sunday, the last
- 12:54Speaker 3: two groups or whatever, and it's a close match and
- 12:56Speaker 3: they hear the group in front of them like a
- 12:57Speaker 3: big roar.
- 12:58Speaker 1: They're like, oh, correct, well that does have and that
- 13:00Speaker 1: for sure is a part of it. It's a momentum
- 13:02Speaker 1: killer too. I mean, it's all things, but yes, it's cool.
- 13:05Speaker 3: And then you're wondering, like what are they cheering for?
- 13:07Speaker 3: Like what is it? Two strokes? Is it one that
- 13:09Speaker 3: he hidden? Like what do they do?
- 13:11Speaker 1: I'll make it comparison that you guys will now understand.
- 13:13Speaker 1: It's like the Super Bowl you'll go once and mostly
- 13:16Speaker 1: be like that was cool. I'd rather watch it on
- 13:18Speaker 1: TV for now on really, but you want to go
- 13:19Speaker 1: once for sure because you want to see it. It's
- 13:21Speaker 1: the greenest grats I've ever seen that type thing, Like
- 13:23Speaker 1: it's awesome everywhere you've ever seen on television, you're seeing
- 13:26Speaker 1: to get it, you're seeing it for the first time
- 13:27Speaker 1: in person. But then you go and it's just kind
- 13:30Speaker 1: of hard to keep up with it because if you're
- 13:32Speaker 1: trapped trying to see many a bunch of golfers or
- 13:34Speaker 1: follow one other's just people, people people and no phones
- 13:37Speaker 1: and you're like my wife mad, she's trying to get
- 13:39Speaker 1: a hold of.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Yeah, that'd be tough.
- 13:41Speaker 1: So you and my wife wouldn't like that, Like you
- 13:43Speaker 1: would go for a I would say you'd want to
- 13:45Speaker 1: go for a couple a year, Like for a couple
- 13:48Speaker 1: few days, it's cool, But I don't think unless you're
- 13:51Speaker 1: like extremely super fan, that you'd want to go back
- 13:55Speaker 1: the next year because you're like, oh, I got it,
- 13:58Speaker 1: unless it was like a big event for a reason
- 13:59Speaker 1: for one person, like he's trying to you know, Tiger Slam. Yeah, yeah,
- 14:03Speaker 1: but then you seven eight years to be like yeah,
- 14:04Speaker 1: it'd be cool. Let's go back, but you do it
- 14:07Speaker 1: and then once you're there, like, this is really cool,
- 14:09Speaker 1: but it's much better to watch on television. I could Yeah,
- 14:13Speaker 1: I could see that because just generally things are better
- 14:14Speaker 1: now on television. Sure, so you want to go once
- 14:16Speaker 1: to see it, but then you get to these games,
- 14:19Speaker 1: and I say this evening about Arkansas sports. My favorite
- 14:22Speaker 1: thing to do in the whole world is to go
- 14:23Speaker 1: to Arkansas games. Oh that's kind of fun, dude, Yeah
- 14:25Speaker 1: it is. It's awesome. I can go to every game,
- 14:27Speaker 1: but it's like angles, timeouts, can't get food, like there
- 14:33Speaker 1: are all these annoying things, and you lose, and if
- 14:35Speaker 1: you're an away game or you got travel home and
- 14:38Speaker 1: hating life, like television's just made it so much better.
- 14:41Speaker 1: But we'll try to go next.
- 14:45Speaker 3: Couple of years.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Masters Yeah, I mean I could probably pull some strings
- 14:48Speaker 1: and just go.
- 14:49Speaker 3: Play it, or just go what are you talking? Play?
- 14:52Speaker 3: Can we play? You know how they do like pitch
- 14:54Speaker 3: pitch drive, pitch Butt?
- 14:56Speaker 1: Could you play?
- 14:57Speaker 7: No?
- 14:58Speaker 1: Could I play seventy thirty? No?
- 15:01Speaker 3: Wow?
- 15:02Speaker 1: I think that definitely no outside shot. You're saying this
- 15:06Speaker 1: because they do like celeb stuff sometimes, but they'd have
- 15:10Speaker 1: to be like twenty no's in a row to get
- 15:12Speaker 1: to me. So we can call some people. That's not
- 15:17Speaker 1: a thing though, like call some people is not really
- 15:18Speaker 1: a thing.
- 15:19Speaker 3: Here, I have one last question about Masters and we
- 15:21Speaker 3: can move on. What's it like outside of the course,
- 15:24Speaker 3: because when you watch it on TV, you're.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Like, it's a small town that it's not it's like
- 15:29Speaker 1: a McDonald's cross the street crazy. It's not crappy. Actually,
- 15:32Speaker 1: because you watch on TV.
- 15:33Speaker 3: You're like, this is Willy Wonka Land, Like this is
- 15:35Speaker 3: it must be surrounded by like green jungle flowers and.
- 15:40Speaker 1: No offense to people in Augusta because they go it's
- 15:42Speaker 1: it's a fun it's but no, it's it's crappy area.
- 15:45Speaker 1: And when you're driving to it at first, you're like,
- 15:46Speaker 1: why are those fences covered in like green? Like the
- 15:49Speaker 1: oh wow?
- 15:51Speaker 3: Yeah yeah yeah, I would never think that just from
- 15:55Speaker 3: watching on TV.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Same yeah, Like there's like Hooters, right, I'm not kidding.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Hooters because John Day's all there.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, So yeah, we'll try to go at some point.
- 16:07Speaker 1: I have a buddy that went this year for the
- 16:09Speaker 1: first time. Yeah, he just got randomly invited by somebody
- 16:12Speaker 1: who kind of knew his wife back in the day
- 16:14Speaker 1: and they were like, it's me and two friends have
- 16:15Speaker 1: an extra ticket his he didn't even know the guy,
- 16:18Speaker 1: but his wife knew him like fifteen years ago, huh
- 16:22Speaker 1: and a tough one. And he was like, oh, man,
- 16:25Speaker 1: I may never get to go, and he went just
- 16:27Speaker 1: suck it up, not knowing. But that's very much the thing,
- 16:29Speaker 1: like you would do just jump out with a bunch
- 16:30Speaker 1: people you don't know just because you're easy to get
- 16:32Speaker 1: along with. And I would, yeah, I would, yeah, but
- 16:34Speaker 1: it depends like you went four days. Yeah, that's true,
- 16:38Speaker 1: you'd still probably go, though it's not about to figure
- 16:40Speaker 1: it out. I don't eve want to hang with people
- 16:42Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't want to hang with you
- 16:42Speaker 1: guys sometimes and I know you, yeah, And it's not
- 16:44Speaker 1: even I don't want to hang with you. I just
- 16:45Speaker 1: don't want to hang with anybody. But my personally is
- 16:48Speaker 1: very different than Eddie. Eddie can blend in and jump
- 16:50Speaker 1: in and be from best friends with everybody in five seconds,
- 16:53Speaker 1: and like that's like a you yes thing.
- 16:55Speaker 3: I used to love going to bars and just like
- 16:57Speaker 3: sit at the bar and hey, man, you you from town?
- 17:00Speaker 3: What are you visiting and then there we go do
- 17:02Speaker 3: you hang out with that person for the rest of
- 17:03Speaker 3: the night.
- 17:05Speaker 6: But that can really backfire, really yeah. Sometimes and then
- 17:08Speaker 6: you start talking to the wrong person.
- 17:09Speaker 3: You're like, oh my gosh, how do I get out
- 17:11Speaker 3: of here?
- 17:11Speaker 6: Yes, so that can back for it because I'm with you,
- 17:14Speaker 6: I'm all about having a good time talking to people.
- 17:15Speaker 6: And then there's those times where you're like, oh, man,
- 17:18Speaker 6: I missed this one up, dude.
- 17:19Speaker 3: There was a time when I came to Nashville just
- 17:22Speaker 3: to come visit randomly, and I sat at a bar
- 17:24Speaker 3: at a Hooters, not kidding, and started talking to a guy.
- 17:28Speaker 3: We talked for like, I don't know, two hours. We
- 17:30Speaker 3: went to a bar afterwards, and then he had to
- 17:32Speaker 3: leave go home. Never saw him again. When we moved
- 17:34Speaker 3: to Nashville, I was at one of my kids baseball
- 17:37Speaker 3: team games and I see him there. I'm like wait
- 17:39Speaker 3: a second, and I asked him, like, dude, did we
- 17:44Speaker 3: meet it at Hooters at this play? He's like, yeah,
- 17:48Speaker 3: I remember you.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Like, this is crazy, that's pretty weird. That's cool, that's wild.
- 17:52Speaker 1: And that guy Eric Church. Okay, so we're gonna come
- 17:58Speaker 1: back with Rick Barnes test basketball coach. In just a second.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Let's we're gonna do a UFC parlay.
- 18:05Speaker 3: All right, come on, let's do it. We've never done one.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll let you have it.
- 18:10Speaker 3: Okay. So, oh dude, I can't I do UFC every
- 18:13Speaker 3: week now.
- 18:14Speaker 1: It's the only thing I know, Like, I know a
- 18:17Speaker 1: couple of the fighters, like I would pick Chandler. I
- 18:20Speaker 1: don't know. If you're gonna pick up I'll roll you
- 18:21Speaker 1: through this, okay. So UFC three fourteen is on Saturday,
- 18:26Speaker 1: main event. Alexander Volkanovski, you got it? Versus Diego Lopez,
- 18:32Speaker 1: you got it?
- 18:33Speaker 3: Brazilian?
- 18:34Speaker 1: Who do you like?
- 18:35Speaker 3: There? I like Diego.
- 18:37Speaker 1: He's the underdog.
- 18:38Speaker 3: Yeah. I love that. And he's not an underdog by
- 18:40Speaker 3: much one ten barely, right, But I love this guy.
- 18:42Speaker 3: He's won the last five fights. I think he's won
- 18:44Speaker 3: five in a row. This dude's tough. Alexander's the champ.
- 18:48Speaker 3: Usually when the champ is up there, he's like a
- 18:50Speaker 3: you know what, I'm the champ already. I'm gonna just
- 18:52Speaker 3: relax a little bit, and here comes Diego. So I'm
- 18:55Speaker 3: picking Digg on this just to win money line lightweight.
- 18:58Speaker 1: About our boy Michael Chandler versus Patty Pimblet Patty the Batty.
- 19:02Speaker 3: Paddy the Batty. Yeah, here's here's the problem with this.
- 19:05Speaker 3: I don't know who can win this. Like, it's so
- 19:07Speaker 3: hard to decide between these two. Patty Patty the Batty. Dude,
- 19:10Speaker 3: he's crazy, he's nuts, he's nuts. Michael Chandler is good,
- 19:14Speaker 3: but he hasn't won the last couple of fights that
- 19:16Speaker 3: he's fought. So I'm gonna go instead of picking the fighter,
- 19:19Speaker 3: I'm gonna go with over one and a half rounds,
- 19:22Speaker 3: which means it's three round fight, which means if it
- 19:25Speaker 3: goes over two thirty in the second round, we win.
- 19:28Speaker 1: So you're going over one and a half round and
- 19:30Speaker 1: that's a bet. That's the bet, okay, And which one
- 19:32Speaker 1: do you want to bet on? The featherway to lightweight
- 19:34Speaker 1: because you have featherweight? Uh yeh. Rodriguez versus Patricio Pittbull
- 19:39Speaker 1: that's I had. Yeah, I mean you've got to go.
- 19:43Speaker 1: I think it's a nickname. I don't think that's his
- 19:45Speaker 1: family name or anything. Oh really no, because there's no
- 19:48Speaker 1: like Patricio Pitbull Rodriguez. It's just Patricio pit Bull.
- 19:51Speaker 3: Yeah. But in UFC. You know you can do that
- 19:53Speaker 3: kind of stuff.
- 19:53Speaker 1: So you're going Patrico Pitbule to win.
- 19:55Speaker 3: Well, I don't, I don't know. Is Nikita Krylof on
- 19:58Speaker 3: that one?
- 19:58Speaker 1: Yeah, you can pick up No, you picked the out
- 20:00Speaker 1: below that light light heavyweight bout, Nikita Krylov versus Domini
- 20:02Speaker 1: krez Boom.
- 20:03Speaker 3: Let's pick him Nikita to win.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Okay, So you're going Diego Lopez in the main event
- 20:10Speaker 1: and the lightweight bout of Chandler and Patty de Batty.
- 20:12Speaker 1: You're going over two and a half, one and a half,
- 20:15Speaker 1: Oh good, over one and a half in the rounds,
- 20:17Speaker 1: and the light heavyweight bout you're going Nikita.
- 20:20Speaker 3: That's it.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Okay. Uh, he made me want to bet it.
- 20:24Speaker 3: Let's go maybe everyone, Let's do it.
- 20:26Speaker 6: His full name is Patricio Andre des Susa Ferrari Friary.
- 20:32Speaker 1: So Pitbulls pit Boy. Download the DraftKings Sportsbook app now

- 21:11Speaker 1: We've been trying to get him on for a long time.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Finally we got him. Rick Barnes, head basketball coach University
- 21:16Speaker 1: of Tennessee. Coach Barnes has been at Tennessee for a
- 21:19Speaker 1: decade now, was at Texas for a while before that.
- 21:22Speaker 1: They lost to Houston in the Elite eight this year,
- 21:24Speaker 1: and seems like Coach Barnes and the bass programs in
- 21:27Speaker 1: the hunt every year now. They were awesome this year.
- 21:29Speaker 1: A big thanks to coach for coming on. And I
- 21:31Speaker 1: do at the end say hey, what's up? Why be
- 21:35Speaker 1: kept saying no to us coming to here? He is
- 21:37Speaker 1: coach Rick Barnes, Hey, Coach, I was doing a little
- 21:40Speaker 1: little intel Anya. I don't want to put my person out,
- 21:43Speaker 1: but I have a very close friend that has an
- 21:45Speaker 1: sec official, and I said, I want to read you
- 21:47Speaker 1: a quote from him. I said, and this is a
- 21:50Speaker 1: very close friend of mine who will come to the
- 21:52Speaker 1: house here sometimes in Nashville. And it doesn't live here though.
- 21:55Speaker 1: I said, uh, what's up with Rick Barnes? What kind
- 21:58Speaker 1: of guys he because he'll tell me because coach, he's like,
- 22:02Speaker 1: I ain't good. He said, a tremendous man on and
- 22:06Speaker 1: off the court. And I said, I'm about to talk
- 22:09Speaker 1: with him, and he Saidrick and I have a great relationship.
- 22:13Speaker 1: And so that's from somebody very close. So now that
- 22:16Speaker 1: I know you're a tremendous man, I'm so excited to
- 22:18Speaker 1: talk to you.
- 22:19Speaker 4: Well, I appreciate it. Good to be with you. How
- 22:21Speaker 4: you doing. You're doing okay?
- 22:22Speaker 1: You know, I'm okay. Yeah, I feel like, uh, you know,
- 22:25Speaker 1: I'm a big SEC guy. So I was happy to
- 22:28Speaker 1: see Florida win. I wonder with you, do you still
- 22:32Speaker 1: watch once you guys fall out of the tournament.
- 22:36Speaker 4: It's hard, you know, Uh, sporadic, you know, sporadically.
- 22:39Speaker 7: I'll probably watched obviously the last game, more of it,
- 22:42Speaker 7: but uh, when there's semi finals started, Uh, I know,
- 22:48Speaker 7: I didn't watch a lot of that because it does
- 22:51Speaker 7: it takes while. You know, I was talking with Calvin
- 22:54Speaker 7: Sampson yesterday and just it takes time to get that
- 22:57Speaker 7: sting out.
- 22:58Speaker 4: You know, because you want to win.
- 22:59Speaker 7: You want to be the last team in a tough
- 23:01Speaker 7: part about that tournament is there's only going to be
- 23:04Speaker 7: one team that's going to go home happy and everybody
- 23:07Speaker 7: else is it comes to a sudden, screeching halt. And
- 23:12Speaker 7: but it's hard and when you sometimes you just want
- 23:15Speaker 7: to get away from it. But you know, we've had
- 23:17Speaker 7: to jump right back into the recruiting aspect of what
- 23:20Speaker 7: we do, and so that keeps you from setting around
- 23:24Speaker 7: mulling over it too long.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Yeah, it feels so intense right now, even because right
- 23:27Speaker 1: you're right, it's over. We had a Nash champion. But again,
- 23:30Speaker 1: I follow recruiting like crazy, and it's like eighty four
- 23:33Speaker 1: rumors portal and so now it's yeah, you're splashing back in.
- 23:37Speaker 1: So do you think it's going to be this way forever?
- 23:39Speaker 1: Or will there finally be some sort of regulations that
- 23:41Speaker 1: come in the next couple of years.
- 23:43Speaker 4: I don't think it will be like this forever. I don't.
- 23:47Speaker 7: I'm sure they're going to have to regulate some things.
- 23:50Speaker 7: What that's going to be, I'm not sure anybody really
- 23:52Speaker 7: knows where it's going to go. But in my close
- 23:56Speaker 7: you know, fifty years in the business, it's never stayed.
- 24:00Speaker 7: It's always changed some way somehow. Whatever problems that we
- 24:04Speaker 7: run into, they find a way to work through it.
- 24:06Speaker 7: That one we have right now, we shouldn't have ever
- 24:09Speaker 7: gotten here if we'd have done the right thing in
- 24:13Speaker 7: terms of taking care of players years ago and seeing
- 24:17Speaker 7: them is not just you know, student athletes, but you
- 24:20Speaker 7: know people that were helping generate funds, and we wouldn't
- 24:25Speaker 7: be where we are today but we are. And how
- 24:28Speaker 7: it's going to get solved, I'm not sure anyone really
- 24:31Speaker 7: knows right now.
- 24:32Speaker 1: The bizarre thing, and this would be the last question
- 24:34Speaker 1: about that. The bizarre thing is that the portal opens
- 24:36Speaker 1: up while the games are still being played. That even
- 24:40Speaker 1: just adjusting the calendar would seem common sense, Like I
- 24:44Speaker 1: feel like there should just be like one or two
- 24:46Speaker 1: dates period that doesn't affect football or basketball. Isn't it
- 24:49Speaker 1: weird that players can start to move while the season
- 24:52Speaker 1: is still going.
- 24:52Speaker 7: Yeah, but what I think the reason they moved it
- 24:55Speaker 7: to where they did? You think about it once the
- 24:57Speaker 7: NCAA tournament starts. So you imagine almost every team has
- 25:02Speaker 7: a conference tournament.
- 25:03Speaker 4: Some of them end up maybe a week or two
- 25:05Speaker 4: a week maybe before we say.
- 25:06Speaker 7: Start our tournament. What they're saying is that those teams
- 25:11Speaker 7: are wanting to get started. They don't want to wait
- 25:12Speaker 7: around for a month. You know, they don't want to say, hey,
- 25:14Speaker 7: why do we have to wait for a month, and
- 25:16Speaker 7: are we going to make rules just to take care
- 25:18Speaker 7: of after one weekend thirty two teams or then sixteen teams,
- 25:23Speaker 7: then you know, eight teams and four.
- 25:25Speaker 4: Teams, and so you know, people want to get going
- 25:28Speaker 4: with it.
- 25:28Speaker 7: But the sad part about our business, the portal is
- 25:31Speaker 7: probably opened long before the date because you start getting calls,
- 25:35Speaker 7: which is not right really in the season, I mean,
- 25:38Speaker 7: people are still playing games and you might get a
- 25:41Speaker 7: call from somebody that's still playing and they say, would
- 25:44Speaker 7: you be interested if so and so? And I don't
- 25:46Speaker 7: even think at times the players even though this is
- 25:49Speaker 7: going on, But it's just we're just not from there.
- 25:55Speaker 7: I don't think there will ever be a great date
- 25:57Speaker 7: when to open the portal, when to close it, based
- 25:59Speaker 7: on what everybody needs are But again the reason they
- 26:04Speaker 7: moved it up was those teams that aren't playing there saying, hey,
- 26:07Speaker 7: we need to recruit, we got to get gone. We
- 26:09Speaker 7: want we want to be playing next year in the tournament.
- 26:11Speaker 7: So why should we be penalized waiting on NCA tournament
- 26:13Speaker 7: to get over with. So there's a lot of different
- 26:16Speaker 7: thoughts that go into it. And now we'll say this
- 26:19Speaker 7: to you, Iobby, there's enough players out there for all
- 26:22Speaker 7: of us. We just got to find the right ones.
- 26:24Speaker 7: And but right now is think about this. When we
- 26:29Speaker 7: came back from the UH, I think the secre first
- 26:32Speaker 7: round we had, We've already had three visits right in
- 26:33Speaker 7: the middle of the tournament, so it is different.
- 26:36Speaker 4: We got back here after the lead and we had
- 26:37Speaker 4: we had a.
- 26:38Speaker 7: Personal campus, but twenty four hours later getting ready to
- 26:42Speaker 7: get before we even left for the UH, you know,
- 26:45Speaker 7: the next round.
- 26:46Speaker 4: But it's it's crazy the way that works. But it
- 26:48Speaker 4: is what it is, and you just have to adapt
- 26:50Speaker 4: to it.
- 26:51Speaker 1: I was living in Austin almost the whole time that
- 26:53Speaker 1: you were there and then moved to Tennessee. Basically when
- 26:56Speaker 1: you moved to Tennessee, some would say you chase me.
- 26:59Speaker 1: That's fine, that's fine, coach, chase me if you want that.
- 27:00Speaker 1: So it's all good, But what's the real ut?
- 27:03Speaker 7: Well, you know what, when I first got here, I
- 27:06Speaker 7: don't think I bet you for two or three years
- 27:08Speaker 7: when I would go out and meet and speak, everybody says,
- 27:11Speaker 7: welcome to the real ut. And obviously their line was, hey,
- 27:14Speaker 7: you know what the line was or would not be
- 27:16Speaker 7: at Texas if it wasn't for Tennessee. And uh so
- 27:20Speaker 7: they I got to go to the University of Tennessee.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Whenever you leave a school that's color because you're in
- 27:26Speaker 1: two distinct you went from one very distinct. I mean
- 27:29Speaker 1: even if it clems in distinct colors of the version
- 27:33Speaker 1: of the color. Do you all your burn orange stuff?
- 27:36Speaker 1: Does it go away like it's there's that fire cell
- 27:39Speaker 1: and then it's all now that the Tennessee orange.
- 27:42Speaker 7: Oh yeah, yeah once I you know, the colors changed.
- 27:46Speaker 7: People that you know that are there, that you were
- 27:48Speaker 7: close to you, I've always said, hey, come get what
- 27:51Speaker 7: you want.
- 27:51Speaker 4: It's all here. Getting ready to get a new wardrobe.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Well ties and everything. Yeah, you gotta think it's not
- 27:57Speaker 1: even just like the stuff with the logos on it,
- 27:58Speaker 1: like ties, hats, everything you happened, like all things must go.
- 28:02Speaker 1: So you guys at Tennessee have been it's an awesome experience,
- 28:06Speaker 1: Like you guys have a great game day atmosphere. Now
- 28:07Speaker 1: I've been there and I've lost. I'm an Arkansas guy,
- 28:10Speaker 1: and you guys pounded us as terrible as miserable experience.
- 28:12Speaker 1: But I respected how passionate and how loud those fans were.
- 28:18Speaker 1: Do you feel when you came in that you have
- 28:21Speaker 1: amplified the basketball culture there, you and your staff? I
- 28:25Speaker 1: feel that way as outside looking in And where do
- 28:30Speaker 1: you guys, what do you kind of rank you guys
- 28:32Speaker 1: sec wise as far as like arenas well?
- 28:35Speaker 7: You know, I will say this on that every People
- 28:40Speaker 7: tell me all the time just how hard it was
- 28:42Speaker 7: to play in Stokely Athletic Center back when before they
- 28:45Speaker 7: moved into the Foods which is now the food City Center.
- 28:49Speaker 4: They our fan base here is incredible.
- 28:52Speaker 7: I mean you think about it, We're the only programs
- 28:55Speaker 7: in the country that sell out, you know, women's softball, baseball, football,
- 29:00Speaker 7: in basketball, and uh, I can tell you this. We've
- 29:05Speaker 7: had people tell us that they think this is as
- 29:08Speaker 7: hard a place play as there anywhere in the country.
- 29:11Speaker 7: I could I could say the same thing about where
- 29:13Speaker 7: what you're talking about you're an Arkansas fan. Uh, that's
- 29:16Speaker 7: that Walton Arena is a tough place to play when
- 29:18Speaker 7: that thing's cooking. Now it is that ceilings blow that
- 29:20Speaker 7: that uh that is we sit around a lot and
- 29:24Speaker 7: we talk about Justin Ganney and I and people have
- 29:26Speaker 7: asked me the question all the time in my lifetime
- 29:28Speaker 7: of the hardest arenas, the loudest arenas to play in.
- 29:31Speaker 7: And I've always said, the loudest arena ever in uh
- 29:35Speaker 7: my coaching career was the old Gallay, the Gallagher IB
- 29:38Speaker 7: Arena before they raised the roof on it, that thing
- 29:40Speaker 7: when we had some incredible games in there, when Coach
- 29:43Speaker 7: Sutton was there, and it was so definitely you couldn't
- 29:46Speaker 7: even hear and if a person with three inches from
- 29:49Speaker 7: your face. Sometimes the old Rentals College Sam at NC
- 29:53Speaker 7: State Colefield House. Obviously, Kansas still has what they have going,
- 29:56Speaker 7: but there are some places that you that really stood
- 29:59Speaker 7: out like that. But when I'm coaching a game, I'm
- 30:02Speaker 7: kind of oblivious to all that, to be quite honest.
- 30:04Speaker 7: But I have had a lot of people tell me
- 30:08Speaker 7: how hard it is to come in here and play.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Yeah, Tennessee sucks to play because you guys are so loud.
- 30:13Speaker 1: I'm biased Arkansas Auburn. It's small, but that's it to
- 30:16Speaker 1: Auburn gets loud and because it's so small and right
- 30:19Speaker 1: on top of you. So there's a dynamic there to
- 30:21Speaker 1: where the whole like nine thousand people, but that doesn't
- 30:23Speaker 1: allow for freaking nine thousand people.
- 30:24Speaker 4: Right, yeah it is. I mean you know that, does
- 30:27Speaker 4: you know?
- 30:28Speaker 7: I think about you know, Old miss can get going,
- 30:30Speaker 7: you know, I think now you know, obviously a lot
- 30:32Speaker 7: of people have cut their arenas down. You know, you
- 30:35Speaker 7: you go out in Texas, now think about it. Baylor
- 30:38Speaker 7: wins the National Championship, goes from a ten thousand seed
- 30:41Speaker 7: arena to like of what a seven thousand and eight
- 30:43Speaker 7: thousand seed arena. Texas goes from a seventeen thousand seed
- 30:46Speaker 7: arena to a ten thousand seed arena. But there's still
- 30:50Speaker 7: something to be said about arena that you know, twenty one, six, seven, eight,
- 30:55Speaker 7: and especially when you fill it up. But there's a
- 30:59Speaker 7: lot of them that can loud in some ways, obviously,
- 31:02Speaker 7: but they all have their own really unique personalities.
- 31:07Speaker 1: What about stand in that box. I don't feel like
- 31:08Speaker 1: they give enough room, and you know, you come out
- 31:10Speaker 1: of the box, give a little warning. You feel like
- 31:12Speaker 1: that box should be extended a little better way.
- 31:14Speaker 7: Well, what I think they ought to do, they ought
- 31:16Speaker 7: to move the officials where I have the worst seat
- 31:19Speaker 7: in the house, where I sit on the bench the
- 31:22Speaker 7: officials but is right in my face the entire game.
- 31:26Speaker 7: His job is just staying at the foul line, and
- 31:27Speaker 7: my seat lines up with the foul line, and so
- 31:32Speaker 7: that makes me have to get up and move. But
- 31:34Speaker 7: sometimes I will literally he said, I'll push them to
- 31:37Speaker 7: the side a little bit. But that's where they're supposed
- 31:39Speaker 7: to be. But you know, back in the day, you know,
- 31:42Speaker 7: you know, you could walk down as far as I
- 31:44Speaker 7: remember when you could walk to half court. But uh,
- 31:47Speaker 7: you know again, it just goes back to where they
- 31:49Speaker 7: want to try to feel like they got control of
- 31:52Speaker 7: the game and trying to keep people under control.
- 31:54Speaker 1: When did they hit you though with the tech? Because
- 31:56Speaker 1: I'm assuming they'll say, coach, do they give you like
- 31:59Speaker 1: a quiet warning? First? Allowed warning? Second? Like, at what
- 32:02Speaker 1: level do they go? That's too much? We've told you
- 32:03Speaker 1: twice three times already.
- 32:05Speaker 4: It depends on each guy.
- 32:06Speaker 7: You know, back earlier, I'll never forget one night when
- 32:09Speaker 7: I was coaching the province in the Big East, and
- 32:11Speaker 7: you know, coaches and referees, you know, we all I
- 32:15Speaker 7: thought we had pretty good relationships.
- 32:17Speaker 4: We knew each other.
- 32:17Speaker 7: But Timmy Higgins one night, who I loved to death
- 32:21Speaker 7: and did a lot of games, and games just started
- 32:24Speaker 7: and you know, we weren't playing well, and I'm getting
- 32:26Speaker 7: after him a little bit. And next thing I know,
- 32:29Speaker 7: he comes by me and I said, I just showed
- 32:31Speaker 7: out Timmy and he turn around.
- 32:33Speaker 4: He teed me up. I looked around.
- 32:36Speaker 7: I said what and he looked down and I promise
- 32:38Speaker 7: you my foot was a half an inch out of
- 32:40Speaker 7: the box. He looked at me, he looked at he said,
- 32:42Speaker 7: you're out of the box. And then he turned back
- 32:45Speaker 7: and I said, are you kidding me? He said, Coach,
- 32:46Speaker 7: I had a bad day today.
- 32:47Speaker 4: I don't want to hear it, you know, and that
- 32:51Speaker 4: you know thing. But you know, I go back.
- 32:53Speaker 7: I think there's guys that referee the game, and there's
- 32:56Speaker 7: guys that managed the game too. And you asked me
- 32:58Speaker 7: what I'd rather have a guy at man the game
- 33:00Speaker 7: or referee is a game, I'd probably I just want
- 33:02Speaker 7: referees to call the rules of the game, but they
- 33:05Speaker 7: need to manage it too, and I think older guys
- 33:08Speaker 7: probably are a little bit better at that.
- 33:10Speaker 4: Uh, as they get experienced.
- 33:11Speaker 1: Do you have a person on your staff that, whenever
- 33:14Speaker 1: you have been triggered so much, they go, all right,
- 33:17Speaker 1: coach stop that you actually will listen to.
- 33:20Speaker 4: Not really uh, you know, not really. I mean if
- 33:24Speaker 4: when I get if if I do get going, I
- 33:27Speaker 4: I want to get going.
- 33:28Speaker 7: You know.
- 33:29Speaker 4: It's really funny.
- 33:30Speaker 7: I think I don't remember the last time I had
- 33:32Speaker 7: tactical I think I think it was here when John
- 33:35Speaker 7: was at Kentucky and he got a technical foul and
- 33:40Speaker 7: I looked at him and I was laughing because he
- 33:42Speaker 7: didn't I didn't think he had done anything. And he
- 33:44Speaker 7: turned around teed me up because because I didn't think,
- 33:48Speaker 7: I'm like, what did he do? And they teat us
- 33:51Speaker 7: both up, And that may be that's one of the
- 33:52Speaker 7: last ones I think I remember that I got. But uh,
- 33:55Speaker 7: you know, officials, you know, I think there's been a
- 33:58Speaker 7: lot that has gone into helping the officials to learn
- 34:01Speaker 7: how to communicate. That's the key between games with coaches
- 34:06Speaker 7: and referees and the communication level and obviously some coaches
- 34:10Speaker 7: are going to get along better with others and vice versa.
- 34:13Speaker 7: But it's a communication factor that has been You know
- 34:18Speaker 7: Mike Keys, who is our supervisor of official, he has
- 34:21Speaker 7: done just an incredible job.
- 34:22Speaker 4: Incredible and I will tell you this, I really do
- 34:25Speaker 4: respect those officials.
- 34:27Speaker 7: I was on the rules committee for five years and
- 34:31Speaker 7: knowing and learning how hard they work at it, have
- 34:36Speaker 7: to work at it, and it's a really difficult game
- 34:38Speaker 7: to officiate. That gave me a whole different perspective. But
- 34:43Speaker 7: it also helped me because I can I know where
- 34:46Speaker 7: they're supposed to be, they're not there. I can kind
- 34:50Speaker 7: of get at it a little bit. But they work
- 34:53Speaker 7: at it and they want to get it right. That's
- 34:54Speaker 7: all I'm going to tell you. They do want to
- 34:56Speaker 7: get it right. It's important to them. And back in
- 34:58Speaker 7: the day everybody used to feel like it was a
- 35:01Speaker 7: part time job. For those guys, it really hit and
- 35:03Speaker 7: those guys, you know that money, what if they might
- 35:07Speaker 7: have another job, and it steel is important to them
- 35:09Speaker 7: to help take care of their families. And I think
- 35:11Speaker 7: you got to respect them because it's really it's a
- 35:15Speaker 7: tough game to officiate.
- 35:16Speaker 1: There's three final questions for you, Coach, Eddie.
- 35:18Speaker 3: Hey, Coach. My first job out of college, I was
- 35:21Speaker 3: a news cameraman for News A and Austin. You were
- 35:25Speaker 3: head coach at Texas and I never did sports really,
- 35:28Speaker 3: but they sent me out to one of your press
- 35:30Speaker 3: conferences because the photographer wasn't available, so I'd go up
- 35:32Speaker 3: there and it's the first time I'd ever seen you
- 35:35Speaker 3: in person, and they had you guys had planned a
- 35:38Speaker 3: fart machine under one of the reporter seats, so every
- 35:42Speaker 3: time that reporter started to ask a question, you guys
- 35:45Speaker 3: hit the button and of fart noise would come out
- 35:47Speaker 3: and he just couldn't get his question out. I thought
- 35:50Speaker 3: that was the funniest thing in the world. I became
- 35:52Speaker 3: a huge fan of yours after that moment. After that,
- 35:57Speaker 3: do you still do that kind of stuff with the media?
- 35:59Speaker 3: I thought that was so great.
- 36:00Speaker 4: Hey, if you want me to get up, I'll walk
- 36:02Speaker 4: in my locker and I'll get that machine.
- 36:06Speaker 1: You remember that, Coach.
- 36:07Speaker 7: Oh, yeah, I'm sure I've done worse than that, But
- 36:11Speaker 7: you know, sometimes you just want to have fun doing
- 36:13Speaker 7: what you're doing. And I'm not sure who it was,
- 36:16Speaker 7: but I'm sure it was good reason why we put
- 36:18Speaker 7: it underneath their chair.
- 36:19Speaker 1: That's funny. Okay, final two questions. I'll talk about Kevin
- 36:22Speaker 1: Durant for a second. How cold was he as a
- 36:25Speaker 1: just a freshman at Texas?
- 36:27Speaker 4: Man?
- 36:27Speaker 7: Oh man, I could tell you, I could tell you
- 36:30Speaker 7: stories all day about him. I remember, you know, I
- 36:34Speaker 7: tell everyone, when you coach a guy like Kevin Durant.
- 36:39Speaker 4: He's the hardest worker.
- 36:40Speaker 7: He's as harder worker, maybe the hardest worker that we've
- 36:43Speaker 7: ever coached. He's just an incredible teammate, very unselfish. All
- 36:48Speaker 7: he cared about was winning. But you know, he just
- 36:51Speaker 7: loves being in the gym, and he still does even today.
- 36:54Speaker 7: I mean, I mean he works as hard as now
- 36:57Speaker 7: or harder. I mean, he just loves the game of basketball.
- 37:00Speaker 7: And so when you coach a guy like Kevin, and
- 37:03Speaker 7: you know, he came in and uh, we had lost
- 37:06Speaker 7: three guys early to the NBA Draft, and uh Daniel Gibson, PJ.
- 37:12Speaker 7: Tucker and LaMarcus Aldridge, and we were down to three
- 37:14Speaker 7: players in our program, and we signed best recruiting class
- 37:18Speaker 7: in the country. We had, you know, Kevin and DJ Augustine,
- 37:21Speaker 7: Damien James, and we signed seven freshmen and four of
- 37:24Speaker 7: them started, but Franfretschell had called me in September.
- 37:28Speaker 4: He was doing getting ready for the season. He says,
- 37:31Speaker 4: what do you think about your team?
- 37:32Speaker 7: I said, well, we're going to start four freshmen and
- 37:34Speaker 7: a sophomore and or junior, and I don't know how
- 37:39Speaker 7: good our team is, but I've got the best player
- 37:40Speaker 7: in the country. He said, you mean you got the
- 37:42Speaker 7: best freshman. I said, no, I got the best player
- 37:43Speaker 7: in the country. I said, he is the very best
- 37:46Speaker 7: player in the country. And he became the first freshman
- 37:49Speaker 7: to win the national uh all, you know, I think
- 37:53Speaker 7: seven National Player.
- 37:54Speaker 4: Of the Year awards.
- 37:55Speaker 7: But he had an incredible game where he kind of
- 37:58Speaker 7: broke out. We were playing against coach at Texas Tech
- 38:01Speaker 7: and is one of those nights where I think he
- 38:03Speaker 7: had thirty some points, you know, maybe twenty rebounds and
- 38:07Speaker 7: almost a triple double. And game after that, we came
- 38:12Speaker 7: back a couple of weeks later and Kevin had We
- 38:15Speaker 7: went out there and he got rolling. Man, he was cooking.
- 38:19Speaker 7: He was rolling and playing at just an incredible level.
- 38:22Speaker 7: And Texas Tech comes back and right before the game,
- 38:25Speaker 7: you know, five minutes before the game, you know you're
- 38:27Speaker 7: supposed to put your starting line up in and we
- 38:28Speaker 7: had prepared for Texas tack to come in, and next
- 38:31Speaker 7: thing I know, they come in. It's a tax changer lineup.
- 38:33Speaker 7: They're starting to walk on and I'm like, what in
- 38:37Speaker 7: the world I'm looking there, and I started thinking, you
- 38:39Speaker 7: know what they're doing. Another good player in the league,
- 38:44Speaker 7: Martin Zeno, was a really good one on one player,
- 38:46Speaker 7: and I said, by the way they're starting, Kevin is
- 38:48Speaker 7: going to have to match up with him. And so
- 38:50Speaker 7: Coach Knight's going to go at Kevin with Zeno, He's
- 38:52Speaker 7: gonna make kitting. And so I told Kevin, I said, look,
- 38:55Speaker 7: whatever you do, you don't even leave the lane. You
- 38:58Speaker 7: just stand in front of the basket. And we jumped
- 39:00Speaker 7: on those guys and we were up probably like something
- 39:03Speaker 7: like thirty to five, and all at once, I hear
- 39:07Speaker 7: somebody stomping her foot and I look around and coach
- 39:10Speaker 7: nice looking down there, and he looks at me and
- 39:11Speaker 7: he calls me a name and starts laughing at me.
- 39:14Speaker 7: And we're up at halftime by thirty points. The second half,
- 39:17Speaker 7: it took thirty seconds, thirty minutes to get the entire
- 39:19Speaker 7: at half over. He went zoned and I'd never seen
- 39:22Speaker 7: him go zon and after the game he told me
- 39:25Speaker 7: it's him. At halftime, he said, if anybody fouls, we're
- 39:27Speaker 7: going to get into two three zone. If anybody fouls,
- 39:30Speaker 7: you're going to walk back to Luvevick.
- 39:31Speaker 4: I want to be out of here.
- 39:34Speaker 7: And that game was that half was over in thirty minutes,
- 39:36Speaker 7: but Kevin put on and then I can just remember
- 39:40Speaker 7: some of the things he did. One of my favorite
- 39:42Speaker 7: stories is we go to Kansas and place as you
- 39:47Speaker 7: know is gone and we start that game and Kevin Durant,
- 39:51Speaker 7: I'm telling you it's one of the greatest twenty minutes.
- 39:54Speaker 4: In entire college basketball history.
- 39:57Speaker 7: And Danny Manny told me later he was on the
- 39:59Speaker 7: bench with and I mean, we were running a play
- 40:04Speaker 7: that we couldn't guard. When Carmelo Anthony beat us in
- 40:06Speaker 7: the final foursant simple isolation, but it's up to.
- 40:10Speaker 4: Kd just to pick it apart.
- 40:11Speaker 7: And every gallon was court had scored a point because
- 40:15Speaker 7: he either made the pass or did something. And Danny,
- 40:19Speaker 7: they couldn't stop him. I mean, he was unstoppable. And
- 40:22Speaker 7: Danny told me that Bill looked at him and said,
- 40:24Speaker 7: what do you think? And Danny said, I looked at
- 40:26Speaker 7: Bill and said, Bill, that's a bad mother. But he
- 40:30Speaker 7: gave it to him any and every way you could.
- 40:33Speaker 1: Yeah, he's still awesome. He's still awesome even though he's
- 40:35Speaker 1: quote old. Okay, last last question here. Coaching. This is
- 40:39Speaker 1: going to be a little uncomfortable. We've been all around
- 40:42Speaker 1: the world, but we've worked out with coach Pearl and Auburn,
- 40:45Speaker 1: with the Pacers, Oregon, Florida State, South Carolina, Arizona, you
- 40:48Speaker 1: name it. We've been the only program to tell us no,
- 40:51Speaker 1: was Tennessee basketball. The only program and that that's the
- 40:56Speaker 1: react coach.
- 40:57Speaker 5: I don't know what.
- 40:58Speaker 4: I'm not sure what you're talking about.
- 41:00Speaker 1: So we travel around and we go and we do
- 41:02Speaker 1: like we do a show. We focus on the team,
- 41:05Speaker 1: and mostly it was for like to help with like
- 41:08Speaker 1: an il and like show and highlight the players. And
- 41:11Speaker 1: we've been to like thirteen different D one schools we
- 41:14Speaker 1: worked at with Jeni, and everybody has said yes. The
- 41:17Speaker 1: only time we kept getting to know was from the
- 41:19Speaker 1: University of Tennessee. And I was already mad because you
- 41:23Speaker 1: guys have been pounding this. I don't like that, but
- 41:25Speaker 1: now I was rooting for you a little less coach
- 41:27Speaker 1: because we kept getting the rejection. So I just wanted
- 41:29Speaker 1: you to know that it's hurt me to be rejected
- 41:32Speaker 1: over and over again by Tennessee.
- 41:33Speaker 4: Well, I'll be honest with you.
- 41:35Speaker 7: There's a lot of girls in hickreyhatt in North Carolina
- 41:37Speaker 7: when I was growing up that felt it that way
- 41:39Speaker 7: about me.
- 41:40Speaker 4: But I didn't know they liked me. M you know,
- 41:43Speaker 4: I didn't know. I didn't know. I didn't know that
- 41:45Speaker 4: you'd ever asked to come on campus.
- 41:46Speaker 7: Because I can tell you this our campus, that our
- 41:49Speaker 7: practices are open to Indy and everybody wants to come.
- 41:52Speaker 1: But we practiced like we worked. We would like work
- 41:55Speaker 1: out with a team. So so I'm just letting you know.
- 41:57Speaker 4: Like we you you want you want to practice with
- 42:01Speaker 4: my team?
- 42:02Speaker 1: Yeah, we want to like do like just we just
- 42:04Speaker 1: do a little work out. We did a little ryn
- 42:05Speaker 1: little shoot.
- 42:06Speaker 7: Well you come up, yeah, you come up here this
- 42:08Speaker 7: spring and you give me fifteen minutes. I promise you
- 42:12Speaker 7: I will love I will do it, and we will
- 42:14Speaker 7: do whatever you want to do it. I just want
- 42:15Speaker 7: to make in fifteen minutes, I'm going to bring you
- 42:18Speaker 7: to your knees and you're gonna be well.
- 42:20Speaker 1: Now I don't want to do it.
- 42:22Speaker 7: Now you want to work out, I mean give me
- 42:24Speaker 7: fifty you know what. I don't even think it will
- 42:26Speaker 7: take me fifteen minutes, you know I don't.
- 42:29Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, well listen, I'll say this. I'll just be
- 42:32Speaker 1: as unbiased as possibly can. You guys were the uh
- 42:35Speaker 1: one of the most tenacious teams I've ever seen. It
- 42:37Speaker 1: was really really cool to watch you guys succeed, not

- 44:16Speaker 1: Now, I want to get over to my talk with
- 44:18Speaker 1: NFL draft analyst Dane Brugler from The Athletic. Dane has
- 44:22Speaker 1: a massive draft analysis guide that comes out every year
- 44:25Speaker 1: called The Beast. It came out this week. His goal
- 44:29Speaker 1: is to create the most detailed NFL draft guid available
- 44:31Speaker 1: and it is. Again I'm an athletic guy, I love it.
- 44:34Speaker 1: I subscribe. The Beast includes more than four hundred player
- 44:37Speaker 1: profile rankings twenty seven hundred prospects. He's awesome, his works awesome.
- 44:42Speaker 1: You can follow him on Twitter as well at dp Brugler.
- 44:44Speaker 1: Here he is Dane Brugler. I'm with Dan Brugler now,
- 44:47Speaker 1: who puts out The Beast, which is the most comprehensive
- 44:51Speaker 1: draft guide I think that I've ever seen. Hey, I
- 44:54Speaker 1: have a question for you, Dan, since it seems like
- 44:56Speaker 1: things very much are moving as far as everybody's the
- 45:02Speaker 1: pro days, we have the combine, they're now having to
- 45:04Speaker 1: come up with stories like should or does he tap
- 45:07Speaker 1: the ball too much? Like it's that time of the
- 45:08Speaker 1: draft now where we need new blood because we don't
- 45:12Speaker 1: know where everybody's going, but we kind of know how
- 45:15Speaker 1: good everybody is. So with that being said, I was
- 45:17Speaker 1: looking at some odds this morning and they had Travis.
- 45:20Speaker 1: They had they had one hundred, number two overall. Where
- 45:22Speaker 1: where is he with you? Because I'm assuming cam Ward's
- 45:24Speaker 1: number one on your list.
- 45:26Speaker 5: Yeah, if we're just projecting how the draft's going to
- 45:28Speaker 5: play out, cam Ward he's going to be the number
- 45:31Speaker 5: one overall pick, And I think that was pretty clear
- 45:33Speaker 5: at the combine. It was more of a question will
- 45:36Speaker 5: it Titans stick and pick or will we see a
- 45:38Speaker 5: team like the Giants or another team try to make
- 45:41Speaker 5: a play for that number one pick to get cam Ward.
- 45:43Speaker 5: But it sure seems like the Titans feel good about
- 45:46Speaker 5: taking the quarterback out one and perfectly understandable. And then
- 45:49Speaker 5: at two, I think when you look at the Browns,
- 45:52Speaker 5: they're in a position to take the best non quarterback
- 45:55Speaker 5: in this draft, and in my opinion, that's Travis Hunter.
- 45:58Speaker 5: As unique a player as we've seen. But he's more
- 46:01Speaker 5: than just just the you know, it's more than the
- 46:03Speaker 5: unique factor with with Travis Hunter, because he is a
- 46:06Speaker 5: dynamic athlete. The ball instincts are tremendous. It's more of
- 46:10Speaker 5: a question, Okay, how are you going to maximize his talent?
- 46:14Speaker 5: Is he going to be a full time corner? And
- 46:17Speaker 5: we're going to mix in some plays on offense. I
- 46:19Speaker 5: think if the Browns take him at number two, they're
- 46:22Speaker 5: going they want to help their offense. You know, this
- 46:24Speaker 5: was an offense that ranked thirty second in the league
- 46:26Speaker 5: last year in offensive scoring, thirty second in the league
- 46:28Speaker 5: in third down conversions. They need a spark. And if
- 46:31Speaker 5: they're not going to draft a quarterback at two, you
- 46:34Speaker 5: want a guy like Travis Hunter who is so dynamic
- 46:36Speaker 5: and get open, he can create after the catch, and
- 46:39Speaker 5: so maybe not the same body type as ideally you want,
- 46:43Speaker 5: being six foot one hundred and eighty five pounds, but
- 46:47Speaker 5: he is. He plays so much bigger than he looks,
- 46:50Speaker 5: and good luck trying to cover him. It's more of
- 46:52Speaker 5: a question, Okay, how are we going to use him
- 46:54Speaker 5: on defense as well? And so when you draft a
- 46:57Speaker 5: player like this, you have to have a plan in place.
- 47:00Speaker 1: Let's talk about Travis Hunter then for a second, a
- 47:01Speaker 1: little more in depth. I watched a lot of his
- 47:03Speaker 1: pro day I watched a lot of his games too,
- 47:05Speaker 1: but he was running a lot of routes I'd never
- 47:07Speaker 1: seen before as actual routes, Like it looked like the
- 47:11Speaker 1: purpose of that was to just show how quick he is. Like, well,
- 47:14Speaker 1: you saw it too, What do you think is happening there?
- 47:16Speaker 5: Yeah, we call those TikTok routes where it's just kind
- 47:19Speaker 5: of you know, you're going out there moving around. It
- 47:23Speaker 5: wasn't full speed, It wasn't necessarily the full route tree.
- 47:28Speaker 5: It was more just, hey, I'm moving around showing you
- 47:31Speaker 5: that I'm healthy. You know, because we haven't seen he
- 47:34Speaker 5: didn't do anything at the combine. You know, we don't
- 47:36Speaker 5: have a forty year dash from Travis Hunter. And I
- 47:39Speaker 5: understand why. I mean, he's, like I said, the best
- 47:42Speaker 5: player in the draft. We don't need to see him
- 47:44Speaker 5: go out there and do a vertical and a three
- 47:47Speaker 5: cone and all of this. You know, it's just good
- 47:49Speaker 5: to see him go out there and move around a
- 47:51Speaker 5: little bit. Everything that you love about Travis Hunter he
- 47:54Speaker 5: put on the film. And so this isn't the same
- 47:56Speaker 5: thing as like a second round receiver, where maybe you
- 47:59Speaker 5: have a question of about the speed, or maybe you
- 48:01Speaker 5: have a question about how he moves and you want
- 48:03Speaker 5: to see it in person, there's no wondering what Travis Hunter.
- 48:06Speaker 5: He is, in my opinion, the best player in the draft.
- 48:08Speaker 5: And even though the Pro day was a little bit JV,
- 48:12Speaker 5: you know, it didn't really it's not going to sway
- 48:15Speaker 5: you one way or the other. It's because he's already
- 48:17Speaker 5: kind of locked into being a top three pick.
- 48:20Speaker 1: When you mentioned the Browns and they're gonna go non quarterback,
- 48:23Speaker 1: I mean they have can you pick it? I mean
- 48:25Speaker 1: is that you know, maybe they do a cousin's situation,
- 48:28Speaker 1: but then that's just just projecting if it's cousins or whomever. Like,
- 48:31Speaker 1: what do you feel the reason is that they're they're
- 48:33Speaker 1: going full non quarterback.
- 48:35Speaker 5: I think you have to you have to take the
- 48:37Speaker 5: players that are there. And this isn't like last year
- 48:39Speaker 5: where we had three quarterbacks go one, two, three, and
- 48:42Speaker 5: all three were deserving. If Drake may were in this
- 48:44Speaker 5: draft class, he goes number one overall and the Browns
- 48:47Speaker 5: would take cam Ward at number two. But you have
- 48:50Speaker 5: to it just it's just how things play out. And
- 48:52Speaker 5: the Browns have the number two pick in this draft
- 48:55Speaker 5: and they're just in my opinion, there's one quarterback at
- 48:57Speaker 5: the top and then there's a gap, and I think
- 49:00Speaker 5: that's how most teams see this, and so it's a
- 49:03Speaker 5: question of not are we not just are we reaching
- 49:07Speaker 5: on a quarterback, but that also means we're passing on
- 49:10Speaker 5: a guy that could be a cornerstone for our roster,
- 49:12Speaker 5: whether that's Abdual Carter from Penn State or Hunter like
- 49:16Speaker 5: we talked about. So you know, and I think the
- 49:18Speaker 5: Browns they're sitting at thirty three, they have the first
- 49:20Speaker 5: pick in the second round. They've done a lot of
- 49:22Speaker 5: work on Jackson Dart from Ole, Miss, Tyler Shuck from Louisville,
- 49:26Speaker 5: Millroe from Alabama. So this is a quarterback class that
- 49:31Speaker 5: I would argue Shador Sanders is closer to that group
- 49:34Speaker 5: than he is to cam Ward. And so that's why
- 49:37Speaker 5: you take the better player at number two overall, and
- 49:40Speaker 5: then at number thirty three, you could maybe move up,
- 49:42Speaker 5: you could trade up to twenty five, You could stick
- 49:44Speaker 5: at thirty three, take a quarterback there, or I mean,
- 49:46Speaker 5: who knows. The Browns need a lot of help. I
- 49:48Speaker 5: think that they understand the whole that they're in from
- 49:51Speaker 5: the Deshaun Watson trade, and so they're not going to
- 49:54Speaker 5: force the quarterback pick. If it's not there. They could
- 49:57Speaker 5: go with Travis Hunter at two, you get a left
- 50:00Speaker 5: tackle at thirty three, you add another receiver, another tight end,
- 50:03Speaker 5: another running back, and then maybe they do go the
- 50:05Speaker 5: Kirk Cousins route, and you go into next season with
- 50:08Speaker 5: Kenny Pickett Kirk Cousins as your starters, and you know,
- 50:11Speaker 5: you look at quarterback in next year's draft. So the Browns,
- 50:15Speaker 5: how they manage this quarterback situation will be really interesting.
- 50:19Speaker 1: Jalen Milroe, you bring him up. He's now going to
- 50:22Speaker 1: attend the draft, which to me felt weird because I
- 50:25Speaker 1: really hadn't heard that he was projected in the first round.
- 50:28Speaker 1: He'd hear some whispers, but then you know, Dart obviously
- 50:30Speaker 1: ahead of Milrow at least according to the experts and
- 50:34Speaker 1: including you being one of the experts. But you don't
- 50:36Speaker 1: really go to that unless you're projected to be a
- 50:37Speaker 1: first round pick. What has changed, Honestly, I don't think
- 50:41Speaker 1: anything's really changed. I think Jalen Milroe and his representation
- 50:45Speaker 1: knows there's a chance, a decent chance, he's not drafted
- 50:48Speaker 1: in the first round. But I think that it's when
- 50:51Speaker 1: you manage expectations. It's a little bit different you know,
- 50:53Speaker 1: with everyone remembers Aaron Rodgers and Brady Quinn, and you know,
- 50:58Speaker 1: the cameras were on them non stop the first twenty
- 51:02Speaker 1: five picks in the draft, but that's because there were
- 51:04Speaker 1: a lot of people expected them to go in the
- 51:06Speaker 1: top three and so it was like they were they're falling.
- 51:10Speaker 1: I think with Milroe, the expectation is, yeah, maybe there's
- 51:14Speaker 1: a chance he could go into the first but more
- 51:16Speaker 1: likely he's going to go on day two. And if
- 51:19Speaker 1: you're the NFL, hey that's great.
- 51:21Speaker 5: We have somebody that's going to go across the stage
- 51:23Speaker 5: on day two, you know, play to the crowd. It's
- 51:26Speaker 5: good TV. So I think the NFL is fine with
- 51:29Speaker 5: it as long as the cameras aren't on Jalen Milroe
- 51:32Speaker 5: non stop, starting, you know, with the eighth overall pick.
- 51:35Speaker 5: So managing the expectations are a big part of that.
- 51:37Speaker 5: And for Milroe, you have to think about it for
- 51:38Speaker 5: his family to walk the red carpet and to be
- 51:41Speaker 5: part of that, to be in Green Bay, which has
- 51:43Speaker 5: so much history, and to say you were at that draft,
- 51:46Speaker 5: I mean it's a pretty cool experience. So you could
- 51:48Speaker 5: understand maybe why he would want to be there.
- 51:50Speaker 1: We'll talk about Will Campbell for a second. I measured
- 51:53Speaker 1: on my arm. I measured me, we did the whole thing,
- 51:56Speaker 1: and I got the same size armed as Will Campbell
- 51:58Speaker 1: and I'm six six, one seventy five. I thought that
- 52:03Speaker 1: I would have shorter arms than Will Campbell. But how
- 52:05Speaker 1: much does that actually matter? Because I see when you
- 52:07Speaker 1: list him, you haven't listed as a tackle slash guard,
- 52:10Speaker 1: and is that because of the arm issue?
- 52:13Speaker 5: Well, I think he is a tackle first and foremost.
- 52:16Speaker 5: That's where he should start. But I think you feel
- 52:18Speaker 5: good about okay, if it doesn't work out, we could
- 52:20Speaker 5: move him to guard, or if the team that drafts
- 52:22Speaker 5: him already has their tackles in place, you know, like
- 52:25Speaker 5: think about the Bears. If Will Campbell were still available
- 52:28Speaker 5: at ten, you play him at guard as a rookie,
- 52:31Speaker 5: and then eventually he takes over as your tackle. So
- 52:35Speaker 5: you know, ideally, do you want thirty four inch arms
- 52:37Speaker 5: thirty five and droms for your tackles? Absolutely, but I
- 52:41Speaker 5: think it's more of it's something that helps you. But
- 52:45Speaker 5: more importantly, it's about your feet. It's more important about
- 52:48Speaker 5: your body control and your timing and your ability at
- 52:51Speaker 5: the point of attack to overpower the guy in front
- 52:53Speaker 5: of you, and that's what Will Campbell does at a
- 52:56Speaker 5: high level. You think about it, the last three years,
- 52:59Speaker 5: he showed up at Baton, who's eighteen years old, won
- 53:01Speaker 5: the starting left tackle job, and he has been terrific
- 53:04Speaker 5: the last three years in a really good conference. The
- 53:07Speaker 5: last thirty games that he played, he gave up two sacks.
- 53:10Speaker 5: So I think teams are ready to trust the tape
- 53:14Speaker 5: with a guy like this who said the tape says
- 53:15Speaker 5: he can play tackle. And you know, there's some questions
- 53:19Speaker 5: about the combine testing and the lent and the way
- 53:22Speaker 5: they measured, because at the Pro Day he was at
- 53:24Speaker 5: thirty three inches with the arms, and scouts are doing
- 53:27Speaker 5: those measurements as well, and so he wasn't the only one.
- 53:30Speaker 5: There were a lot of players who measured shorter at
- 53:33Speaker 5: the combine. So I think that teams feel good about
- 53:36Speaker 5: Will Campbell as being a tackle.
- 53:38Speaker 1: I'm gonna do a lot of very personal selfish questions
- 53:40Speaker 1: now regarding either this show or where we live. I'm
- 53:43Speaker 1: gonna start with the Titans, and initially yourself included weeks
- 53:47Speaker 1: ago you had thought possibly they would trade that pick,
- 53:49Speaker 1: but now after the Pro Day, I think everybody then
- 53:52Speaker 1: felt because they canceled the other workouts, they are seemingly
- 53:55Speaker 1: in love with cam Ward. Do we feel like the
- 53:57Speaker 1: Titans are a definite cam Ward number one one, like
- 54:00Speaker 1: as close as you could possibly be, or still maybe
- 54:03Speaker 1: they trade it.
- 54:04Speaker 5: You never say never, but especially because we're dealing with
- 54:07Speaker 5: the first year general manager Mike Burgonzi, second year head coach, Like,
- 54:11Speaker 5: you know, we don't have a track record really of
- 54:13Speaker 5: these guys and what they like to do in the draft,
- 54:16Speaker 5: but all signs are pointing to cam Ward. And you know,
- 54:20Speaker 5: the Titans are obviously are not going to tell us
- 54:21Speaker 5: what they're gonna do, but I can talk to every
- 54:24Speaker 5: other team and they'll tell me what they think the
- 54:26Speaker 5: Titans are going to do. And everybody in the NFL
- 54:28Speaker 5: thinks cam Ward is going one to the Titans. And
- 54:31Speaker 5: you can understand why if you think that cam Ward
- 54:33Speaker 5: has a chance to develop into a top twelve to
- 54:36Speaker 5: fourteen quarterback in the NFL, you shouldn't pass the Titans.
- 54:41Speaker 5: If they don't take cam Ward, what is their avenue
- 54:44Speaker 5: to a quarterback? You know, it just it gets a
- 54:46Speaker 5: little bit murky. Who knows next year they might have
- 54:49Speaker 5: the eighth overall pick, and you're on the outside looking
- 54:52Speaker 5: in at one of these quarterbacks. You know, Will Levis,
- 54:55Speaker 5: this is not the same general manager that drafted Will Levis.
- 54:57Speaker 5: So all signs are pointing to cam Ward and think
- 55:00Speaker 5: it makes a lot of sense for them.
- 55:01Speaker 1: One of the guys on the show is a massive
- 55:03Speaker 1: Patriots fan. They're in the top five. I think there
- 55:05Speaker 1: are four. What do you see them doing?
- 55:06Speaker 5: I want to see them in draft? Will Campbell, I do.
- 55:08Speaker 5: I want to see them get the left tackle. You
- 55:10Speaker 5: think about how good Drake May was last year as
- 55:13Speaker 5: a rookie with a bad offensive line with very little
- 55:16Speaker 5: help around him. Okay, so well you add Stefan Diggs,
- 55:19Speaker 5: you get better on offense.
- 55:20Speaker 8: There.
- 55:21Speaker 5: Let's help get him more help on the offensive line.
- 55:24Speaker 5: And the only we talk a lot about the hit
- 55:27Speaker 5: rate on second round quarterbacks. The only thing worse is
- 55:30Speaker 5: the hit rate on second round offensive tackles. It is
- 55:33Speaker 5: hard to find offensive tackles in the second round because
- 55:35Speaker 5: if you're good enough, you're going to go in the
- 55:37Speaker 5: first because there are thirty two teams that are looking
- 55:40Speaker 5: for offensive tackle depth. And so you know, maybe ideally,
- 55:43Speaker 5: if you're the Patriots, you trade back to seven, eight
- 55:46Speaker 5: and take him there. But there's a good chance you're
- 55:49Speaker 5: not going to have those offers, and so you stick
- 55:51Speaker 5: you pick. You take the left tackle. Worst case, absolute
- 55:54Speaker 5: worst case scenario. He struggles at left tackle, you move
- 55:57Speaker 5: him inside the guard and you figure out your tackles
- 55:59Speaker 5: that you elsewhere. But you're going to get a starting
- 56:02Speaker 5: caliber offensive lineman who has Pro Bowl potential for the
- 56:06Speaker 5: long term and someone that's going to help your quarterback.
- 56:08Speaker 1: We have a psychotic Cowboys fan on the show and
- 56:11Speaker 1: they're at twelve. What do you see them doing?
- 56:13Speaker 5: Yeah, and I think the Cowboys they target more players
- 56:16Speaker 5: than positions when it comes to these top picks, and
- 56:19Speaker 5: so I think you look at one of the top
- 56:22Speaker 5: receivers this year. They need help on the defensive line,
- 56:25Speaker 5: so you know which pass rushers are their interior on
- 56:28Speaker 5: the edge. They could also use another corner. So how
- 56:30Speaker 5: much do they like Will Johnson from Michigan. I keep
- 56:33Speaker 5: coming back to receiver and how much that can help
- 56:36Speaker 5: open up the offense. Teed McMillan from Arizona, who is
- 56:41Speaker 5: not a burner necessarily with the speed, but he's a
- 56:44Speaker 5: ball winner. I mean his catch radious, his ability to
- 56:46Speaker 5: go up and make plays very similar to like a T. Higgins,
- 56:50Speaker 5: except McMillan's even a little more limber and loose, so
- 56:54Speaker 5: needs to get better as a route runner. But I
- 56:55Speaker 5: think you add a talent like that, and that's just
- 56:57Speaker 5: going to help ce d Lamb. It's going to help
- 56:59Speaker 5: Dak Prescott. And then in the second round you come
- 57:01Speaker 5: back and you get that running back, whether that's Trevon
- 57:03Speaker 5: Henderson or Caleb Johnson, and all of a sudden, that
- 57:06Speaker 5: Cowboys offense is getting a complete makeover within the first
- 57:10Speaker 5: two rounds of the draft, and you're feeling a lot
- 57:12Speaker 5: better about where that offense is headed.
- 57:14Speaker 1: What about Shoulder, He's been all over the map? What
- 57:17Speaker 1: do you have him now? Right now with where we are?
- 57:20Speaker 5: I would guess nine to the Saints. I don't think
- 57:23Speaker 5: he's going. Two to the Browns and three with the
- 57:27Speaker 5: Giants are truly a wild card because we know they're
- 57:29Speaker 5: desperate for a quarterback. But are they going to force
- 57:33Speaker 5: the pick? I lean towards no. And so then it becomes,
- 57:36Speaker 5: all right, where does Shador go? Nine in the Saints
- 57:39Speaker 5: are possibility? Could he fall all the way into the twenties?
- 57:43Speaker 5: And we talk about the Steelers or maybe we talk
- 57:45Speaker 5: about the Browns of the Giants in the early second round,
- 57:49Speaker 5: trading into that late first to get a Chador or
- 57:52Speaker 5: maybe even a Jackson Dart. So right now, the over
- 57:55Speaker 5: under one quarterbacks in the first round is two and
- 57:57Speaker 5: a half. And even though this draft is more similar
- 58:01Speaker 5: to that Kenny Pickett year where we had one quarterback
- 58:03Speaker 5: in the first seventy three picks as opposed to last
- 58:06Speaker 5: year where we had six in the first twelve, I
- 58:08Speaker 5: still think we're going to see these quarterbacks go. So
- 58:11Speaker 5: if it's at the over unders two and a half,
- 58:13Speaker 5: I'm gonna take the over.
- 58:14Speaker 1: I'm interested about the Giants because again, they signed Russ
- 58:16Speaker 1: and they have Jamis. Is that a band aid for
- 58:19Speaker 1: one maybe two years? And do you really feel like
- 58:22Speaker 1: they could possibly be in the quarterback market at least
- 58:25Speaker 1: round two three.
- 58:26Speaker 5: No doubt. I think signing those two guys as quarterback insurance,
- 58:30Speaker 5: you know, it's a way to make sure you don't
- 58:34Speaker 5: have to force the quarterback. But if the right quarterbacks there,
- 58:37Speaker 5: then do you take him? So they're a candidate possibly
- 58:40Speaker 5: trade up in the late first to get one of
- 58:41Speaker 5: those guys. If they stay with their pick in the
- 58:44Speaker 5: early second round, and the right quarterback is there, Jackson Dart.
- 58:49Speaker 5: You know they've done work on Jalen Milroe. Milroe is
- 58:51Speaker 5: really the wild card, like we've talked about. I don't
- 58:53Speaker 5: think he goes first round, but could very easily go
- 58:56Speaker 5: early second. Teams are really intrigued by him, even though
- 58:59Speaker 5: they know it's going to take time. So what they
- 59:01Speaker 5: did in free agency with Jamis and Russell Wilson more
- 59:05Speaker 5: of quarterback insurance, making sure they don't have the force
- 59:07Speaker 5: to pick this year.
- 59:09Speaker 1: So the Beast, you've been doing it for a while.
- 59:12Speaker 1: We've had you on before talking about I mean, it
- 59:14Speaker 1: is so thorough and the Athletic dot Com you can
- 59:17Speaker 1: see the mock the articles, everything that you do. But
- 59:20Speaker 1: when do you start on this, And I'm imagining that
- 59:22Speaker 1: it's always a rough draft until you actually publish it.
- 59:25Speaker 5: It's a living document, it really is, and it's it's
- 59:28Speaker 5: a year round project. I mean right now, I've already
- 59:30Speaker 5: started working on twenty twenty six and not really on purpose.
- 59:33Speaker 5: It's just inevitably you're talking to a scal you're talking
- 59:36Speaker 5: to a player and they bring up a player for
- 59:38Speaker 5: next year, or you're watching tape and you're watching a
- 59:41Speaker 5: certain pass rusher, but the a tackle starts splashing and
- 59:44Speaker 5: you look them up and say, oh, I can need
- 59:46Speaker 5: to watch him for next year. So yeah, it's a
- 59:48Speaker 5: year round process. The summer is really when I get
- 59:50Speaker 5: a lot of the legwork done. That's where you create
- 59:53Speaker 5: the base so there's expectations going into the season that
- 59:56Speaker 5: then during the season, that's when you really folks on
- 1:00:00Speaker 5: the tape see who's getting better, who's emerging, and so
- 1:00:03Speaker 5: a lot of the work's done by January first, but
- 1:00:06Speaker 5: that's when we get into All Star games and the
- 1:00:08Speaker 5: combine and the workouts and I really start to put
- 1:00:12Speaker 5: to everything, crystallize the reports and the opinions and all
- 1:00:16Speaker 5: of that. But the testing information, that's a huge part
- 1:00:19Speaker 5: of it. Having the test verified testing information for over
- 1:00:23Speaker 5: twenty five hundred players.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: It takes a lot of work to track.
- 1:00:27Speaker 5: It all down get it because I'm not going based
- 1:00:30Speaker 5: off of what I see on Twitter. Every single number
- 1:00:33Speaker 5: in the draft guide is directly from a scout, and
- 1:00:35Speaker 5: so people know they're getting NFL verified numbers, and I
- 1:00:39Speaker 5: think that's a huge part of this, just to put
- 1:00:42Speaker 5: maybe into context what type of athletes these guys are
- 1:00:45Speaker 5: and maybe you know, when our team drafts a guy
- 1:00:48Speaker 5: or if they sign them as a free agent, you
- 1:00:50Speaker 5: just have a better idea of what type of athlete
- 1:00:53Speaker 5: that player is.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: Which I go only by what's on Twitter. Say that's
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: all We're different. That's why we get experts on because
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: I'm only going by Twitter. There were two tied I
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: wanted to mention. I have like two questions left and
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: Tyler Warren. We watched him because Penn State was amazing.
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: He was amazing this year, like the guy would create space.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: But Loveland's also freaking a stud at Michigan, And there's
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: been a bit of debate on which one's better. In
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: your mind, who goes first, and what's the difference in
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: their skill sets?
- 1:01:19Speaker 5: Yeah, and I really don't think it's a debate because
- 1:01:21Speaker 5: it just depends on what type of tight ends you want.
- 1:01:23Speaker 5: If you want the guy that's ready made out of
- 1:01:25Speaker 5: the box and has a higher floor than Tyler Warren's
- 1:01:29Speaker 5: for you. You know what he did last year, Like
- 1:01:31Speaker 5: you said, he had one hundred and four catches for
- 1:01:32Speaker 5: Penn State, and he impacted the game in so many
- 1:01:35Speaker 5: different ways. He had four rushing touchdowns, he had a
- 1:01:38Speaker 5: passing touchdown, you know, he is a well built athlete,
- 1:01:42Speaker 5: He looks the part. He can help you out as
- 1:01:45Speaker 5: a blocker, where with Colston Loveland he's more of the
- 1:01:48Speaker 5: move tight end where big Fast has better upside, but
- 1:01:53Speaker 5: also a little bit more of some question marks there.
- 1:01:55Speaker 5: He was banged up a lot this year, doesn't really
- 1:01:57Speaker 5: have had the frame that you want. So I think
- 1:02:00Speaker 5: if you want to bet on the upside in the athlete,
- 1:02:02Speaker 5: totally understand Colston Loveland is that dude in his ability
- 1:02:06Speaker 5: at the catch point. Him and Tyler Warren. Both these
- 1:02:09Speaker 5: guys are so reliable, so consistent, and I think even
- 1:02:13Speaker 5: though Tyler Warren is a good athlete, Colson Loveland is
- 1:02:15Speaker 5: just on a different level. So if you want to
- 1:02:17Speaker 5: chase that upside, totally get it. Loveland makes sense if
- 1:02:20Speaker 5: you want to go with maybe the better football player
- 1:02:22Speaker 5: right now this second, I think Tyler Warren it makes
- 1:02:25Speaker 5: a lot of sense as well. So it just really
- 1:02:27Speaker 5: depends on which direction you want to go. But I
- 1:02:30Speaker 5: think both are off the board, probably in the top
- 1:02:32Speaker 5: fifteen picks. You know, Tyler Warren, I'd love to see
- 1:02:34Speaker 5: him in Chicago at ten. I think that is an
- 1:02:36Speaker 5: underrated fit. And then with the Loveland I love him,
- 1:02:40Speaker 5: mocking him to the Colts. I think you want to
- 1:02:42Speaker 5: add an explosive playmaker. You know, you're trying to figure
- 1:02:45Speaker 5: out who quarterback is in Indianapolis. Is it going to
- 1:02:48Speaker 5: be Daniel Jones? Is it going to be Anthony Richardson?
- 1:02:50Speaker 5: Give them another target who's going to help open things up?
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: So one more question for Dane. But by the way,
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: Dane's NF I'll draft twenty twenty five the Beast. It's
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: it came out a couple of days ago. Go to
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: the Athletic. I'm a subscriber, so I've already been deep
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: into it. But the Athletic dot com it is the
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: most comprehensive draft guy of the season. And so my
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: final question will be running backs, because there's like thirty
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: running backs that are good. It's a deep running back class.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: But how many in the first round?
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: Two?
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: Three? Probably two?
- 1:03:22Speaker 5: And I think you know, the biggest reason not to
- 1:03:25Speaker 5: draft a running back in the first round this year
- 1:03:27Speaker 5: is exactly what you said. There's there's thirty good ones.
- 1:03:30Speaker 5: I put draftable grades on thirty running backs this year,
- 1:03:33Speaker 5: So you know, I think you feel good. Okay, let's
- 1:03:37Speaker 5: let's get our tackle in the first Let's get our
- 1:03:39Speaker 5: corner in the first and then because we feel good
- 1:03:42Speaker 5: about rounds two, in rounds three, getting those guys. Now,
- 1:03:45Speaker 5: Ashon Genti he's too good. He's going to go in
- 1:03:47Speaker 5: the top ten, one of the best players in this draft.
- 1:03:50Speaker 5: And then I think Omrion Hampton from North Carolina also
- 1:03:53Speaker 5: goes in that first round. I keep, you know, looking
- 1:03:56Speaker 5: at that fit in Denver and what he would bring
- 1:03:59Speaker 5: to Sean Payton offense with you know, the promised bo
- 1:04:02Speaker 5: Nick showed last year a team that made the playoffs.
- 1:04:05Speaker 5: But then you look at the second round and okay,
- 1:04:07Speaker 5: quin Shawn Judkins and Travon Henderson and Caleb Johnson and
- 1:04:11Speaker 5: we could go on and on talking about these running backs.
- 1:04:14Speaker 5: So teams feel really good about waiting till day two,
- 1:04:17Speaker 5: even into round four and five, and still feeling like
- 1:04:19Speaker 5: they're getting a really good running back. So we're gonna
- 1:04:22Speaker 5: see a lot of running backs come off the board.
- 1:04:24Speaker 5: I think we'll see at least two though in the
- 1:04:25Speaker 5: first round.
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: Okay, my final final question, where do you see scatbow
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: going like around what number pick.
- 1:04:31Speaker 5: I would say somewhere between eighty five and one hundred
- 1:04:35Speaker 5: and fifteen. You know that late third, early fourth. He's
- 1:04:38Speaker 5: not going to be for everybody, but you know, you
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: could see where a lot of teams are going to
- 1:04:42Speaker 5: look at what he does in the passing game, see
- 1:04:44Speaker 5: how physical he is, and say, yeah, okay, we could
- 1:04:47Speaker 5: add that to our offense and we can make that work.
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: You follow him, DP Brugler, and we'll put all the
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: notes in our podcast so everybody can see where to
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: actually go. But the beast, dude, it's it's excellent. Congratulations
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: on finishing it and putting it out. I know how
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: much work it's got to be, so we love it
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: and we appreciate your time.
- 1:05:05Speaker 5: No anytime, I thank you.
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: All right, there is Dan Bugler everybody. Before we wrap,
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: I just wanted to play a clip from another podcast
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: I do with NFL quarterback Matt Castle and the podcast
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: is called Lots to Say, and we had on UFC
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: octagon announcer Bruce Buffer.
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: That is awesome.
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: It was a really good interview, was it. Yeah, it's good, Yeah,
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: he was. It was a great interview.
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: My favorite thing about Bruce Buffer is every time he
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: announces a fighter, he gives him a fist pump and
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: he yelps their names right in front of their face
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: and it almost gets the fighter pump too.
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: I love such a UFC guy every week. Man. So
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: his half brother is the greatest ring announcer of all time,
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: Michael Buffer. But they didn't meet until their twenties. I
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: thought they just grew up and they were just like
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: two little kids going eight years old on four. Not
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: the case at all, that imies. It's a very cool story.
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: But you can go and listen to the full interview,
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: which about half hour long on our podcast called Lots
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: to Say. But here is Bruce Buffer talking about meeting
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: his brother in the timeline of it all.
- 1:06:12Speaker 8: We're long lost haf brothers. We met each other when
- 1:06:14Speaker 8: I was twenty eight years old. I saw him on
- 1:06:17Speaker 8: TV being a huge boxing fan of my dad and
- 1:06:19Speaker 8: my brother Brian and I, you know, watching boxing all
- 1:06:22Speaker 8: our lives. Out came this handsome debonair James Bond looking
- 1:06:28Speaker 8: individual with that famous five words let's get ready to rumble,
- 1:06:31Speaker 8: And when they conrand his name on the screen Michael Buffer,
- 1:06:34Speaker 8: I'm like, WHOA, Who's this right? Because I own telemarketing
- 1:06:38Speaker 8: companies in my twenties and thirties and before the Internet,
- 1:06:43Speaker 8: I never saw my last name in a phone book
- 1:06:45Speaker 8: in the United States, so it kind of really struck me.
- 1:06:47Speaker 8: Funny lost story cut short, my dad never told me
- 1:06:51Speaker 8: that he had been married at the age of twenty
- 1:06:53Speaker 8: when he was going over to serve in World War Two.
- 1:06:57Speaker 8: It was a brief marriage and he came back, a
- 1:07:00Speaker 8: divorce ensued, but a child was born, and last time
- 1:07:03Speaker 8: he saw the child was when he was two and
- 1:07:05Speaker 8: a half. And Michael was raised under the name of
- 1:07:09Speaker 8: Hubert by foster parents great as he calls it, leave
- 1:07:14Speaker 8: it to Beaver upbringing. And when he went in the
- 1:07:17Speaker 8: army at twenty, they said, your birth certificate says you're Buffer,
- 1:07:19Speaker 8: because he was never formally adopted, so they said, you're
- 1:07:22Speaker 8: not Michael Huber, You're Michael Buffer. And had that not happened,
- 1:07:27Speaker 8: and the events had led him into being the legendary, greatest,
- 1:07:30Speaker 8: you know, announcer of all times, as I like to say,
- 1:07:33Speaker 8: and most everybody believes he we wouldn't be sitting here
- 1:07:38Speaker 8: talking right now because we did when he did see
- 1:07:41Speaker 8: him on TV and and my dad called a local
- 1:07:45Speaker 8: arena here in Los Angeles to receive a country club
- 1:07:47Speaker 8: left a message for Michael to call him back, and
- 1:07:49Speaker 8: Michael called him back. That got together for lunch, and
- 1:07:52Speaker 8: it turned out to be his long lost son and
- 1:07:54Speaker 8: we all got together and we got along famously. You know,
- 1:07:57Speaker 8: everybody got along great. And four years later I sold
- 1:08:00Speaker 8: two companies I was doing incredible with but I was
- 1:08:02Speaker 8: burned out, not happy with what I was doing. And
- 1:08:05Speaker 8: I had an epiphany and I said, Michael, I need
- 1:08:07Speaker 8: to become your manager and your partner. I want to
- 1:08:10Speaker 8: make you Richard more famous you ever dreamed, and put
- 1:08:13Speaker 8: you everywhere in the world and TV, make video games, toys,
- 1:08:16Speaker 8: this that the other trademark this phrase properly. He had
- 1:08:19Speaker 8: never even made a hat or T shirt at that
- 1:08:21Speaker 8: time with the saying on it. And I said, I
- 1:08:24Speaker 8: will saw this quit with the money, having the bank
- 1:08:28Speaker 8: and make all this happen. He said, how are you
- 1:08:29Speaker 8: going to do all that? I said, I really don't know,
- 1:08:31Speaker 8: I said, but I'll figure it out. If I'm going
- 1:08:33Speaker 8: to give this up, I'm going to make it happen.
- 1:08:35Speaker 8: And that was, you know, thirty five plus years ago,
- 1:08:38Speaker 8: and now where he where we are today?
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: Okay, that's it? Is there an update on the pickleball
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: guy boys. We have life?
- 1:08:48Speaker 3: Oh okay, snap, he's not dead.
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: We have life.
- 1:08:51Speaker 6: He is alive, and Riley respond, unless somebody's running his account.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: No, wait, did he message you? So he followed me back?
- 1:09:00Speaker 6: Okay, good, So now I can actually message him, great,
- 1:09:03Speaker 6: which I did right away, and that was on Wednesday.
- 1:09:06Speaker 6: He followed me back. I messaged him and let me
- 1:09:09Speaker 6: check again. Make sure Twitter as of nothing.
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: It'll tell you read though, yeah, and so is it read? No?
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: It just says yesterday what happened? Okay, So he's alive
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: a lie.
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: Thank god, it's good.
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: And we're trying to get a response and I'll go
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: play and pick a ball for a thousand bucks. And
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: he's been ignoring Kevin and Reid, but Kevin said, I
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: want to DM you so we can set this up.
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: So now he's follow Okay, we have life. Well at
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: least he's not dead.
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: He's not dead exactly.
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: Okay, thank you guys. If you don't mind, please go
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: subscribe if you really really don't mind, and this could
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: probably help your betting and good luck, go and leave
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: us a comment like review us. Oh he gives a
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: good review, because I'll probably help your betting if you

- 1:09:54Speaker 1: and we also owe money to who won the he.
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: Had here wait red one, the whole thing.
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, stupid. It's so stupid. I know raids like basketball.
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: Oh my god, I don't really know which hoop to go.
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: They look the same.
