- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Almost Famous podcast with iHeartRadio.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Hi everybody, welcome to the Almost Famous OG podcast. This
- 0:09Speaker 2: is Trista and I am Solow Today. Bob Guiney, my
- 0:15Speaker 2: co host, who makes me laugh every week or every
- 0:18Speaker 2: other week or every other month or whatever schedule for on.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Bob is on a plane right now. I was just
- 0:28Speaker 2: texting with him. He is going to Louisville for his
- 0:32Speaker 2: annual visit to the Kentucky Derby. So wishing I was
- 0:37Speaker 2: there with him, although no, not really, because I'm in
- 0:41Speaker 2: Utah for a dance competition with Blakesley and it's like
- 0:45Speaker 2: the thrill of my life. Seeing my daughter dance is
- 0:48Speaker 2: just one of my very happy places. And the competition
- 0:52Speaker 2: here is crazy town. I just posted a story on
- 0:55Speaker 2: Instagram and told people that it is. It's it's like
- 1:00Speaker 2: where everyone that you see, the pros that are on
- 1:04Speaker 2: Dancing with the Stars they are they come from here,
- 1:08Speaker 2: well most of them from a studio called Center Stage,
- 1:12Speaker 2: and so the competition here is really really incredible to watch.
- 1:16Speaker 2: It's just like being at a show. So I'm excited
- 1:20Speaker 2: to be in Utah. I wish that Bob was here
- 1:22Speaker 2: with me, but that's okay. Ive got this interview. I'm
- 1:28Speaker 2: excited to talk to Ed Swaderski. I believe that's how
- 1:31Speaker 2: you pronounced this last name. We've met before and haven't
- 1:35Speaker 2: talked in a long time, so I'm excited to catch up.
- 1:37Speaker 2: But he was on Jillian Harris' season, so Hannah, can
- 1:42Speaker 2: you bring him in please? And thank you? Hello?
- 1:48Speaker 1: Ed?
- 1:49Speaker 2: Hey, how are things going. It's been a while, I
- 1:52Speaker 2: know years. I haven't seen you in lifetimes ago, I mean.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Right, I feel like it was uh quite at your No,
- 2:00Speaker 1: we didn't go to your wedding. Were we were at
- 2:02Speaker 1: Jason Mesnick's wedding? Right? Yes? Yes?
- 2:07Speaker 2: Okay? And then also did I come when you were
- 2:11Speaker 2: on Bachelor Pad? Was I a judge that season? Oh?
- 2:15Speaker 1: You know what? Did you? Okay? So I tried to
- 2:19Speaker 1: erase that from my mind.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Right, I'm sure. So Bachelor Pad I came and judged
- 2:28Speaker 2: a circusla thing in Vegas where people were climbing walls.
- 2:32Speaker 2: That was.
- 2:33Speaker 1: That was the one I think before my season, okay.
- 2:36Speaker 2: And then I judged a dance competition at the end
- 2:41Speaker 2: of one season. I think it was dance. No, that
- 2:46Speaker 2: was it was at the Bachelor Mansion. Were you on
- 2:49Speaker 2: ten Lee season? Yes, okay, then that.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Was the sea I thought.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Okay, right, it wasn't it like a leg? Did you
- 2:58Speaker 2: have to do it?
- 2:59Speaker 1: Pretty pretty intoxicated the entire time, So, like you know,
- 3:04Speaker 1: Elvis Presley could have been there and I wouldn't have
- 3:07Speaker 1: remembered it.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, you were Okay, So is that like
- 3:13Speaker 2: a thing? Is this something that you've come to terms with?
- 3:17Speaker 2: Are you? Are you?
- 3:20Speaker 1: I mean, look, it was it is? It is what
- 3:23Speaker 1: it was. You know, it was vacation for me, you know,
- 3:28Speaker 1: and okay, yes, the producers didn't know it, but I
- 3:32Speaker 1: was there. I was there for vacation.
- 3:36Speaker 2: And so you didn't talk about that, like you when
- 3:39Speaker 2: you would go do interviews and we're talking I'm talking
- 3:42Speaker 2: Bachelorette and Bachelor Pad. When you would go do interviews,
- 3:47Speaker 2: was your was your stick? Was your line that you
- 3:50Speaker 2: were there for love? But were you really just there
- 3:52Speaker 2: for vacation? Is that what you're telling me?
- 3:55Speaker 1: I mean I was sort of there for but like
- 4:01Speaker 1: how much fun can you have with a bunch of dudes,
- 4:03Speaker 1: you know, in a barn? Right? Like it depends on
- 4:07Speaker 1: what I A Yeah, true, it's true nowadays. But I
- 4:12Speaker 1: was there for you know, for kind of have fun.
- 4:14Speaker 1: And I didn't really I didn't really know much about
- 4:17Speaker 1: the show at the time. I mean, I knew the concept,
- 4:21Speaker 1: I just I didn't I wasn't like a regular watcher,
- 4:23Speaker 1: so I didn't really know what what I was in for.
- 4:28Speaker 2: So why did you apply for the show? Like going
- 4:30Speaker 2: back to very beginning, had you you had never seen
- 4:33Speaker 2: it before? And did you get nominated or something?
- 4:37Speaker 1: You know what? I O Believer And I was walking
- 4:39Speaker 1: down the street in Chicago, and you know, they have
- 4:43Speaker 1: these guys on the streets that do recruiting. They've got
- 4:45Speaker 1: their clipboards, and I was outside for me, I was
- 4:49Speaker 1: at a meeting when I was outside on the phone
- 4:51Speaker 1: on a call, and this dude walks up to me
- 4:54Speaker 1: with a clipboard, you know. And I had a suit on,
- 4:56Speaker 1: so I probably looked like I was legit, you know,
- 4:59Speaker 1: and and yeah, yeah, yeah, And you know, I worked
- 5:03Speaker 1: for a big software company at the time, so I
- 5:05Speaker 1: kind of looked at him, like, you know, what do
- 5:07Speaker 1: you want to dude, I'm on the phone, and he
- 5:09Speaker 1: was like, I'm I'm recruiting for for a TV show
- 5:11Speaker 1: on ABC, you know my mind. I'm like, uh, I'm like, well,
- 5:16Speaker 1: is it for the bold and the beautiful, because I
- 5:18Speaker 1: don't think I I don't think I want any part
- 5:21Speaker 1: of it, dude.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Not it. And then he convinced you.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Well, it was over the course of a few months.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I wasn't I wasn't really into it, and I didn't
- 5:31Speaker 1: I didn't really know much about Jillian until you know,
- 5:35Speaker 1: I looked her up and the first thing that came
- 5:36Speaker 1: up was, you know, a bunch of YouTube videos with
- 5:40Speaker 1: with her just melting down, you know, with Jason, and
- 5:44Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, yeah, this is chick. Looks like a nutcase,
- 5:46Speaker 1: you know. So I I that wasn't the reason why
- 5:50Speaker 1: I was. I was hesitant, but I just I think
- 5:55Speaker 1: over the course of a couple of months, you know,
- 5:57Speaker 1: I had my job right, and I knew that I
- 5:59Speaker 1: really should be away for that long. Ultimately, I had
- 6:03Speaker 1: consensus with my boss that, you know, that I could
- 6:06Speaker 1: do it, and I pulled it off. I didn't make
- 6:07Speaker 1: the decision until like the day before I left, actually,
- 6:10Speaker 1: But yeah, I don't know if they were just like
- 6:13Speaker 1: light on guys in Chicago, because they kept bugging me,
- 6:17Speaker 1: you know, and I'm like, there's a million people here
- 6:19Speaker 1: you could probably be chasing out for this so.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Well, they clearly saw something in you, because so did Jillian,
- 6:24Speaker 2: and she ended up you know, you guys ended up
- 6:27Speaker 2: getting engaged. But tell me remind everyone about what happened
- 6:31Speaker 2: like mid season with you.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I left, Oh yeah, yeah, oh yeah. That's
- 6:38Speaker 1: the thing about it, like that I was just like
- 6:41Speaker 1: a normal dude, you know, and I just yeah, I
- 6:44Speaker 1: was still working, you know, I was able to continue
- 6:47Speaker 1: working and kind of dating while I was on a
- 6:50Speaker 1: dating show.
- 6:51Speaker 2: And so you know, you were working while you were
- 6:54Speaker 2: on the show, like when you were in La.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Yeah, they this was you know, this was like the
- 6:59Speaker 1: one of the first reasons where I think they allowed
- 7:03Speaker 1: people that because that was one of the terms that
- 7:05Speaker 1: I agreed on when I did the show. I'm like, look,
- 7:07Speaker 1: I can't gone for like three months. You know. I
- 7:09Speaker 1: got to have access to my my laptop, my phone,
- 7:13Speaker 1: you know, and and but it was very scarce, you know,
- 7:16Speaker 1: periodically I could check stuff, and when I did get
- 7:19Speaker 1: on it, I was just so overwhelmed with with chunk.
- 7:22Speaker 1: You know, I'm like, I can't keep doing this. But
- 7:26Speaker 1: halfway through the season, you know, it was I think
- 7:28Speaker 1: it was a blend of just like me feeling feeling
- 7:34Speaker 1: like I was neglecting obviously neglecting some some some key
- 7:38Speaker 1: stuff at work and not. I don't know, I just
- 7:42Speaker 1: wasn't like feeling the environment with all these these guys
- 7:46Speaker 1: and a lot of them and I'm not going to
- 7:49Speaker 1: disparage any of them, but they just I couldn't like,
- 7:53Speaker 1: I couldn't see eye to eye with a lot of
- 7:55Speaker 1: the guys. There were a few guys that were great,
- 7:56Speaker 1: but I was just I was just kind of a
- 7:57Speaker 1: normal dude. I didn't really want to be and in
- 8:01Speaker 1: entertainment like that was never my thing. I just thought
- 8:03Speaker 1: it would be cool to experience it, you know. And
- 8:06Speaker 1: so so I just said, look like, I can't be
- 8:09Speaker 1: here and I I gotta leave, you know, And I
- 8:13Speaker 1: ended up going home. You know, it turns out that
- 8:17Speaker 1: like work, I probably could have been gone for two
- 8:19Speaker 1: more months. You know. It was you know, it was
- 8:22Speaker 1: like an overreaction that you know, you just get kind
- 8:24Speaker 1: of anxiety, right and and yeah, so I was at
- 8:28Speaker 1: home for a couple of weeks. Producers were kept in
- 8:31Speaker 1: touch with me, and they finally just said, look like,
- 8:33Speaker 1: do you have any you know, any aspiration to come
- 8:36Speaker 1: back and and be on the show. Because we think
- 8:39Speaker 1: that Jillian really likes you, and and we absolutely, like
- 8:42Speaker 1: I felt like we had the best chemistry, you know,
- 8:45Speaker 1: like we were just kind of both grounded people. I guess,
- 8:48Speaker 1: you know, we we both you know, just we had
- 8:51Speaker 1: we had the best fit, I think. And I just said, look, yeah,
- 8:55Speaker 1: and I did have ex girlfriends that you know, were
- 8:57Speaker 1: reaching out to me because they knew that I was
- 8:59Speaker 1: on the show, and of course, like I talked to them,
- 9:01Speaker 1: but I didn't have anything at home that I was
- 9:04Speaker 1: really missing, and so I decided to to you know,
- 9:07Speaker 1: take a chance and go back. And you know, everybody
- 9:10Speaker 1: was cool with with work and everything.
- 9:12Speaker 2: So yeah, So it's funny because I am, you know,
- 9:18Speaker 2: as you know, obviously one of the first, if not
- 9:22Speaker 2: the first, you are, so well yeah, yes, but so
- 9:27Speaker 2: well I wasn't the first bachelor. Oh well I was
- 9:30Speaker 2: the first bachelorette, but not the first show anyway. So
- 9:34Speaker 2: so when someone says like, uh, you know, well I
- 9:38Speaker 2: had girlfriends and I was talking to girlfriends, I'm like,
- 9:41Speaker 2: but is that cool? Like to me, obviously things have changed.
- 9:45Speaker 2: You're in a very happy marriage, and I want to
- 9:47Speaker 2: talk about that soon. At least I assume you're in
- 9:49Speaker 2: a happy marriage and your dad and you know, life
- 9:52Speaker 2: has changed and life has evolved, and I truly believe
- 9:54Speaker 2: that everything happens for a reason, and you're you're meant
- 9:57Speaker 2: to be where you are now. But like to me,
- 10:00Speaker 2: I'm like, you know, the kind of well they call
- 10:04Speaker 2: me the fairy Godmother. So if someone is like, well,
- 10:08Speaker 2: isn't there for the right reasons or wasn't there for
- 10:10Speaker 2: the right reasons or you know, had girlfriends on the side,
- 10:14Speaker 2: I'm kind of like, naughty you, So did you? Did you? Really?
- 10:19Speaker 2: You had girlfriends? And when you went back to Chicago
- 10:22Speaker 2: were you talking to people or were you just there for.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Work in your mid twenties? Like how do you find
- 10:27Speaker 1: girlfriend living in downtown Chicago? Mean? Yeah, yeah, we dated constantly, right,
- 10:31Speaker 1: nobody that I was talking to would I consider like
- 10:34Speaker 1: an actual girlfriend?
- 10:36Speaker 2: Like we weren't, Yeah, got it? You had people you
- 10:38Speaker 2: were talking to?
- 10:39Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, you know, And so I was certainly there.
- 10:44Speaker 1: I wouldn't have gone there if I knew that there
- 10:46Speaker 1: wasn't really a chance, you know, with with it with
- 10:49Speaker 1: a real relationship.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:51Speaker 1: When I got there, though, I realized that, like the
- 10:54Speaker 1: amount of time it's nearly impossible to formally form a
- 10:59Speaker 1: relationship there in that window, right, like, and we learned.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Probably almost impossible, yes.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Twenty five percent of each other while we're there. Afterward,
- 11:08Speaker 1: you know, the next year or two years and we
- 11:10Speaker 1: were together, that's when you learn about you know, moving
- 11:12Speaker 1: in and in like you know, life hits you and
- 11:15Speaker 1: then you.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Learn anything else, right, Yeah, of course, So how did
- 11:29Speaker 2: that all happen? Obviously you and Julian did it work out?
- 11:33Speaker 2: She's happily married, well, happily in a relationship you're I
- 11:36Speaker 2: assume happily married. When you guys were together, what all
- 11:41Speaker 2: happened there? Have you talked to her? You know, I
- 11:45Speaker 2: know that how long did it? How long did it last?
- 11:48Speaker 1: And what together?
- 11:49Speaker 2: What do you feel like happened at the end we
- 11:52Speaker 2: were there?
- 11:53Speaker 1: Let's see, So we were together for for a good
- 11:55Speaker 1: two years after the show.
- 11:58Speaker 2: That's significant in batchel her Land.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I mean we had a lot of tabloid
- 12:03Speaker 1: crap too that that sucked, but we you know, we
- 12:05Speaker 1: got through it. And she moved to Chicago right away,
- 12:09Speaker 1: you know, and and we would go up to to
- 12:12Speaker 1: Vancouver and and you know, we want to visit her
- 12:14Speaker 1: family way up in northern think uh northern yeah, yeah,
- 12:20Speaker 1: near Colonna and even even Peace River way up there.
- 12:25Speaker 1: So it's like parallel to Alaska.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Yeah, amazing.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Yeah. So I mean we we got through all like
- 12:31Speaker 1: the media stuff, you know, and and but it was
- 12:33Speaker 1: just like I think that the day to day life
- 12:35Speaker 1: stuff that really like, like I said, getting to know
- 12:38Speaker 1: the the rest of the spectrum of that person. And yeah,
- 12:41Speaker 1: Julian's great. It was just you know, we just weren't
- 12:45Speaker 1: and I was kind of still in like a not
- 12:47Speaker 1: get serious mode too in my life, and I still
- 12:50Speaker 1: liked working a lot, and so but she moved here
- 12:53Speaker 1: and like, you know, we we had a blast when
- 12:56Speaker 1: she lived here. Like we we did all kinds of
- 12:58Speaker 1: fun stuff. We we you know, like I said, traveled
- 13:02Speaker 1: up to Canada a lot, and went and visited my
- 13:05Speaker 1: family a lot. We had a real real relationship. Yeah,
- 13:09Speaker 1: and I think it just over time, you just you know,
- 13:12Speaker 1: like any relationship, you just figure out that probably not
- 13:16Speaker 1: the best. I think the media sensationalized like our separation,
- 13:21Speaker 1: but it wasn't really that it wasn't that exciting like
- 13:24Speaker 1: it was you know, it was like you know, Ed's
- 13:27Speaker 1: cheating or whatever. And but that that wasn't the case.
- 13:30Speaker 1: I mean, there were many many embellished stories that like
- 13:35Speaker 1: you just and you know this more than anybody, I'm
- 13:37Speaker 1: sure that, like you can't control a story once it's
- 13:41Speaker 1: out there, like it's completely out of your hands, and
- 13:44Speaker 1: if you try to defend something, it looks even worse.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Yeah, yeaheah.
- 13:48Speaker 1: So I got a really quick you know, one O
- 13:51Speaker 1: one on how to handle the media, and I just said,
- 13:52Speaker 1: look like we're not going to play along with this,
- 13:55Speaker 1: like we're breaking up. You know, I'm sorry, it's not
- 13:58Speaker 1: one fun. But and then we still kept in touch
- 14:01Speaker 1: for years, you know after Yeah, yeah, it wasn't until
- 14:04Speaker 1: like when I really started dating my wife for real,
- 14:09Speaker 1: you know, and and I just obviously we we we
- 14:13Speaker 1: didn't keep in touch more. And then she was in
- 14:15Speaker 1: her Yeah of course.
- 14:18Speaker 2: So tell me about your your your wife, your daughter,
- 14:22Speaker 2: how life is now.
- 14:25Speaker 1: It's awesome, I am. I moved to the burbs, uh, doing.
- 14:30Speaker 2: A lot of home in Chicago still, right, Yeah, yeah.
- 14:33Speaker 1: A lot of mulch lately. That's super, super exciting. So yeah,
- 14:40Speaker 1: I mean we were let's see s our eighth year
- 14:44Speaker 1: anniversary coming up here in Happy anniversary, early Thanks it's
- 14:49Speaker 1: going to be in July. Excited for that. My daughter
- 14:52Speaker 1: is going to be three and uh a couple of weeks.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Do you have a picture of her where? Yeah, I
- 15:03Speaker 2: want to see. Her name is Olive. I think that
- 15:09Speaker 2: is so cute.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Dancing beauty doing some wild dancing here.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Oh my gosh. That brings me back like I used
- 15:20Speaker 2: to so when I had Max was probably that age
- 15:24Speaker 2: and Blakesley, my daughter, would be like nursing. So I
- 15:28Speaker 2: would lay in my bed, turn on the television to
- 15:31Speaker 2: so you think you could dance or Dancing with the
- 15:33Speaker 2: Stars and or maybe not, Yeah, Dancing with the Stars
- 15:36Speaker 2: because I had been on it first season went before
- 15:39Speaker 2: they were born. So I would just I would put
- 15:42Speaker 2: it on the television and he would just dance along
- 15:45Speaker 2: to the TV. Oh that brings back such happy memory.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Yeah, your little little buggers are they're getting up there?
- 15:51Speaker 2: They're not so little. Yeah. Max is five ten and
- 15:58Speaker 2: I know, yeah he's six to two, but he's way
- 16:02Speaker 2: taller than me. Now he's going to be a sophomore
- 16:04Speaker 2: in high school next year and Blakesley will be a freshman.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Wow.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Yeah, it's crazy Colorado. Yeah, we are, we are, We're
- 16:14Speaker 2: We're actually moving though. I just told everyone last week
- 16:17Speaker 2: the last or the last podcast, we are moving to Denver.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Ryan is a Denver firefighter now. He worked for Vail
- 16:24Speaker 2: for seventeen years and he's been working for Denver for
- 16:28Speaker 2: like three and he's been commuting two hours back and
- 16:31Speaker 2: forth whenever he worked. So we thought it was time
- 16:35Speaker 2: to make the change. We're going to be closer to family.
- 16:38Speaker 2: We're excited for their new school and the opportunities for everybody.
- 16:41Speaker 2: So anyway, that's what we are. But yeah, I love
- 16:45Speaker 2: hearing and I hear your wife is Is she a
- 16:49Speaker 2: co host or an anchor or whatever for Good Day Chicago?
- 16:53Speaker 1: She was for four or five years. Now she does
- 16:57Speaker 1: the evening she's an evening anchor for the Local.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Local amazing for for ABC Local thought, okay, got it.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Yeah, she's been with them for like twelve years or
- 17:12Speaker 1: something like that.
- 17:13Speaker 2: That is awesome. I love it. I did. I I
- 17:17Speaker 2: co hosted Good Day Live and Good Day La a Bunch,
- 17:21Speaker 2: and I just always loved the vibe there. I assume
- 17:26Speaker 2: Good Day Chicago was kind of similar.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Very similar. Yeah, yeah, she liked it too, but you know,
- 17:32Speaker 1: the evening spots are a little more sought after, and like, yeah,
- 17:36Speaker 1: if you're if you're really into the industry, you know,
- 17:38Speaker 1: like that these are it's a it's a great stepping stone.
- 17:41Speaker 1: But she's really into like she wants to be a
- 17:44Speaker 1: you know, an evening acre possibly even at a network.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Oh amazing. Would you stay in Chicago or would you
- 17:49Speaker 2: guys consider leaving?
- 17:51Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't know.
- 17:52Speaker 2: You know what I mean, is your family there, they're
- 17:54Speaker 2: in Michigan, Okay.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Yeah, and her family's Illinois, so we want to stay
- 18:00Speaker 1: in the area for sure. But yeah, for now, we're
- 18:03Speaker 1: pretty happy with everything.
- 18:05Speaker 2: That is awesome. And how did you guys meet because
- 18:08Speaker 2: obviously you both have a little public I pieces there.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Did you guys meet through like an event or blind date?
- 18:18Speaker 2: Or how'd you meet?
- 18:20Speaker 1: Evehn? Cornier than that? Trista, I was like at home
- 18:25Speaker 1: on the couch one day. It was like a holiday
- 18:28Speaker 1: or something, and I put on the local news and
- 18:32Speaker 1: I saw this girl doing the news and I'm like,
- 18:33Speaker 1: because you know, you get to know a lot of
- 18:35Speaker 1: the local media people and like the events, charity stuff,
- 18:40Speaker 1: and and I didn't recognize her, like, oh is this
- 18:43Speaker 1: you know? And so I reached out to her I
- 18:47Speaker 1: actually tweeted her and did, yes.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Yes, that's amazing.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Well, I figured, like why not, you know, I mean
- 18:55Speaker 1: totally I didn't think she'd respond.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Well, you did go on a reality show on National
- 18:59Speaker 2: to le Vision, so it kind of is in the
- 19:01Speaker 2: category ballpark is yeah.
- 19:05Speaker 1: And so yeah, and I think she was gonna respond
- 19:09Speaker 1: to me, and I think I like started stalking her,
- 19:11Speaker 1: like on Instagram. I was like, hey, it's I'm over here,
- 19:14Speaker 1: over here, and I don't know why she agreed to
- 19:18Speaker 1: go to so she did the morning news and so
- 19:22Speaker 1: like her happy hour is like lunchtime. Right, She's done, right,
- 19:28Speaker 1: so she's like, let's let's go to lunch, like lunch,
- 19:31Speaker 1: like what is this a business? Business meetings? But then
- 19:34Speaker 1: you know, I realized, like, okay, so she's like pounding
- 19:37Speaker 1: wine at our lunch and I'm like, wow, this chick
- 19:39Speaker 1: is she's getting after it. But it was it was
- 19:43Speaker 1: actually like okay for a first date. But you know,
- 19:48Speaker 1: we decided to go another day. We did an actual
- 19:50Speaker 1: evening dinner.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Okay, got it. She could stay up.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Yeah, she could stay up, and we had a lot
- 19:56Speaker 1: more fun and but you know, it was pretty typical,
- 20:00Speaker 1: I mean, other than like the tweeting thing. Our relationship
- 20:02Speaker 1: was pretty standard.
- 20:03Speaker 2: You know, Yeah, I got it, that's it. I love it. No,
- 20:09Speaker 2: So so you guys met through that and you actually
- 20:13Speaker 2: are you in marketing now?
- 20:15Speaker 1: I do enterprise sales for a big, big software company.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Oh, you're still in software sales. Okay, got it. Yeah,
- 20:23Speaker 2: Because I was going to say I thought you were
- 20:25Speaker 2: in marketing, and I was going to say you moved
- 20:28Speaker 2: from software sales went through the show. I didn't know
- 20:31Speaker 2: if like the show had any any impact on the change.
- 20:38Speaker 2: But if you're still in the same.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Player, you're right. Actually, so I mean I kind of
- 20:41Speaker 1: really yeah, I've kind of gone back and forth. I
- 20:43Speaker 1: mean I put it in the same category of sales
- 20:45Speaker 1: and marketing. Like I don't do marketing. I sold marketing tools.
- 20:50Speaker 1: So okay, yeah, so similar. But but I did, like,
- 20:55Speaker 1: we wrote this book about Pinterest a while back, and
- 20:58Speaker 1: I think like we did. Did we do an event
- 21:01Speaker 1: at at in Chicago at Rocket or something?
- 21:04Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, yes, that is the last time I
- 21:07Speaker 2: saw you. It was for shop the shop drop drop
- 21:13Speaker 2: off drop off?
- 21:14Speaker 1: Was that what it called one of those like cycle clothing?
- 21:17Speaker 2: You're right, it was me and Molly Mesnik and which
- 21:22Speaker 2: is so crazy because Julian was on Jason season with
- 21:27Speaker 2: Molly and Molly and I were hanging out with you
- 21:30Speaker 2: in Chicago.
- 21:30Speaker 1: It was it's so weird.
- 21:33Speaker 2: That is so crazy. But yes, you're right, Oh my gosh, okay.
- 21:37Speaker 2: And so you were working with with Rocket, like you
- 21:41Speaker 2: helped them with market or something. I was.
- 21:44Speaker 1: I launched my book and we hosted we hosted a
- 21:48Speaker 1: party at Rocket and and uh and so I, you know,
- 21:51Speaker 1: Billy just preash out for a couple of other events
- 21:54Speaker 1: and uh, that's that's where we intersected. But but yeah,
- 21:57Speaker 1: I mean, I I've always kind of been in technology sale,
- 22:01Speaker 1: so it even got it for my entire career. Really,
- 22:05Speaker 1: I never got into like any like regular media stuff
- 22:08Speaker 1: where I was like paid, you know, just uh huh.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Well I don't think it was. It wasn't really a
- 22:13Speaker 2: thing back then. Yeah, you know, I mean, I know,
- 22:16Speaker 2: I did a lot of like spokesperson the things. You know,
- 22:19Speaker 2: I was a spokesperson. They call it actually a spokesperson.
- 22:24Speaker 2: And now I feel like the term has changed to influencer.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Even if you're doing a satellite media tour or you're
- 22:31Speaker 2: just posting stuff on social I feel like it has
- 22:34Speaker 2: definitely evolved, but but I don't. It wasn't as big
- 22:37Speaker 2: of a thing back then. It wasn't, I mean because
- 22:40Speaker 2: social media wasn't as relevant or pertinent or you know, popular,
- 22:49Speaker 2: and and I wanted to see if you uh, you know,
- 22:54Speaker 2: at that event, obviously we were getting recognized, but do
- 22:57Speaker 2: you get recognized still? And I know that was a
- 23:00Speaker 2: long time ago. I mean that had to be ten years.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Ago that it was like it was like twelve I think.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Or yeah when we saw each other. Yeah, no, no,
- 23:09Speaker 1: nowhere near, you know. And like I don't try to
- 23:13Speaker 1: be right either, Like there is a lot I just
- 23:16Speaker 1: I don't. I don't want it, you know. Yeah, I
- 23:19Speaker 1: mean it's fun every once in a while. But like
- 23:20Speaker 1: my my wife gets way more you know, way more
- 23:24Speaker 1: notoriety than you know, for years, Like she's she's she's
- 23:27Speaker 1: more recognizable than I am. I think if someone's like
- 23:31Speaker 1: a hardcore fan, they might you know, or like if
- 23:34Speaker 1: we're out and it's all you'd probably know this. But
- 23:36Speaker 1: anywhere there's alcohol in alve people get a little braver
- 23:39Speaker 1: with you know, approaching you and so.
- 23:42Speaker 2: Or travel, yes, yes, right, if you're ever in an airport,
- 23:47Speaker 2: I feel like being in an airport yeah, yeah, or
- 23:50Speaker 2: being in Texas, Texas.
- 23:53Speaker 1: The epicenter of the Bachelor. Yeah.
- 23:56Speaker 2: I swear if I'm in Texas, I'm like, I will
- 23:59Speaker 2: get recognized.
- 24:00Speaker 1: It's so true.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Yeah, And you don't miss the show at all, Like
- 24:14Speaker 2: you don't miss being on television. You'd rather your wife
- 24:16Speaker 2: do it.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Yeah, because I feel like I'm getting old, and like,
- 24:20Speaker 1: I just I like being a dad, like I like you.
- 24:23Speaker 2: I love that.
- 24:24Speaker 1: I just like I just like being a normal dude,
- 24:27Speaker 1: you know. And even like, it was definitely fun and
- 24:30Speaker 1: I wish everyone could experience it because it's such a
- 24:34Speaker 1: cool thing to see, right how TV works kind of
- 24:36Speaker 1: see all the bs behind the behind the scenes and
- 24:39Speaker 1: how everything happens in reality TV is different from like
- 24:43Speaker 1: real TV but like a real production but in real TV,
- 24:46Speaker 1: like you know, like like real produced.
- 24:50Speaker 2: I totally yeah, I hear you.
- 24:51Speaker 1: But it's just, uh, it's cool kind of see all
- 24:54Speaker 1: the inner workings right of how it comes together. And
- 24:56Speaker 1: I agree the world even.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Like you guys, I went to Seattle.
- 25:02Speaker 1: That was it. You guys didn't go anywhere.
- 25:05Speaker 2: No, I went to Seattle.
- 25:08Speaker 1: What in the world, Why would you?
- 25:10Speaker 2: I know, seriously, they owe me some trips Seattle and
- 25:15Speaker 2: uh Cabo and New York and Vale, you know for
- 25:20Speaker 2: my hometown. But yeah, I always joke my fantasy suites
- 25:26Speaker 2: were in Seattle. Was Good's amazing. I love Seattle for
- 25:32Speaker 2: all those in Seattle. I love Seattle. It was great.
- 25:35Speaker 2: It was a wonderful place. But you know, would I
- 25:38Speaker 2: have treated the Maldives for Seattle? Yes, yes, I.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Would have taken that one.
- 25:43Speaker 2: Uh yeah, yeah, No, I'm not bitter. I'm not bitter.
- 25:47Speaker 2: You can't tell you bitter? Can you traveled? Where did
- 25:52Speaker 2: you guys go on your season?
- 25:54Speaker 1: We went to We went all over. We started out
- 25:58Speaker 1: in Vancouver, which whistler I think. We went up to also.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Right and which was cool.
- 26:05Speaker 1: I've never been there before. I would consider that definitely international.
- 26:10Speaker 1: And then we went to uh Spain. We went to
- 26:15Speaker 1: uh Hawaii. You know, never been to Spain? Why is
- 26:22Speaker 1: my favorite place on Earth? So I was like, oh, love, it.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Was it your favorite place on Earth because you went there?
- 26:28Speaker 2: It was your favorite place on Earth before that?
- 26:30Speaker 1: It was my favorite place on Earth after I went there.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Oh okay, okay, I just didn't have you been with
- 26:36Speaker 2: your wife, like, does she know this is your favorite
- 26:39Speaker 2: place on earth because of the Bachelorette and does she is?
- 26:41Speaker 1: She like, okay, but here's the thing, Like, we've discovered
- 26:46Speaker 1: so many other places, international places to you that I
- 26:48Speaker 1: would say that are very close. But when it really
- 26:51Speaker 1: comes down to it, like why, it's just amazing, Like
- 26:54Speaker 1: it's you know, it's it's ours.
- 26:57Speaker 2: Yeah, but I feel like my husband would be like,
- 27:00Speaker 2: because I did go to Hawaii for the Bachelor, and
- 27:03Speaker 2: I feel like he would be like, well, this is
- 27:04Speaker 2: where you were with Alex, So I don't want to go,
- 27:07Speaker 2: you know what I mean?
- 27:09Speaker 1: That's right. I didn't realize they did that with you
- 27:12Speaker 1: that I didn't know that you were pulled from.
- 27:15Speaker 2: I was from the first season.
- 27:17Speaker 1: So you okay, so you traveled on a Bachelor, Well
- 27:20Speaker 1: just Towa. That was well. I would definitely be pissed
- 27:23Speaker 1: that if I were you, Like, what happened to the
- 27:25Speaker 1: budget here?
- 27:28Speaker 2: There was not one.
- 27:31Speaker 1: It's interested. We don't know if this is going to work.
- 27:33Speaker 1: So we're going to Cleveland, Ohio.
- 27:35Speaker 2: Yeah you're excited? Yeah, I mean any place. Honestly, I
- 27:43Speaker 2: feel like I'd love traveling, even if it's all over
- 27:46Speaker 2: the United States. I don't care like wherever it is.
- 27:49Speaker 2: I love to travel, but you know, it would have
- 27:52Speaker 2: been nice to go to Spain. So it's all good.
- 27:55Speaker 2: It's all good, it's all good. I would take my
- 27:58Speaker 2: relationship with my husband for almost twenty years in December
- 28:02Speaker 2: over a trip to the Maldives. It's fine, my life,
- 28:07Speaker 2: so it's all good.
- 28:09Speaker 1: Yeah, you guys are you guys are like the best family.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Oh I had fun at Messick's wedding. We were at
- 28:16Speaker 1: the pool with your kids. Oh, everybody was just so fun.
- 28:19Speaker 2: Remember yeah, was that was where Sarah Bryce and Charlie
- 28:25Speaker 2: O'Connell there was that the wedding?
- 28:27Speaker 1: Or yeah, that is the actor guy right.
- 28:32Speaker 2: Yes, Jerry, he's Jerry's brother brother.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Yes, yes, he was there and I don't know why
- 28:38Speaker 1: why was he?
- 28:38Speaker 2: Why was he?
- 28:40Speaker 1: Yes?
- 28:41Speaker 2: Oh why was Jerry? No, Charlie was there because he
- 28:44Speaker 2: was a bachelor.
- 28:44Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, yeah that's what. Yeah. I didn't follow no, sorry, yes,
- 28:50Speaker 1: but prior to it, right, I didn't follow it, so
- 28:52Speaker 1: I didn't really know.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Have you watched since No? I'm like, no, does your
- 28:58Speaker 2: wife watch a wife.
- 28:59Speaker 1: Watches a kid? I think she's a couple of seasons behind.
- 29:02Speaker 2: Did she watch it when you were on.
- 29:04Speaker 1: She didn't and she hasn't.
- 29:06Speaker 2: And she hasn't and she won't.
- 29:08Speaker 1: I don't think she doesn't want to. It's just that
- 29:10Speaker 1: we're just busy and likes to go back through like
- 29:14Speaker 1: archives of old I mean, yes, she's married to me,
- 29:17Speaker 1: but there's nothing there that she was probably probably get
- 29:21Speaker 1: excited over, you know.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I get that. I just didn't know if
- 29:25Speaker 2: there was any curiosity. I feel like that is a
- 29:27Speaker 2: that is probably a majority of how people feel if
- 29:30Speaker 2: they met their significant other after the show. Obviously after
- 29:35Speaker 2: the show, if they met their significant other and their
- 29:38Speaker 2: significant other did not watch before, then they probably will
- 29:42Speaker 2: never won't want you to feel like that's like, that's normal.
- 29:46Speaker 2: But I wonder how much curiosity is there, you know,
- 29:49Speaker 2: if you want to call it up, if you can
- 29:51Speaker 2: even I don't even know if you can access it.
- 29:53Speaker 1: I think they may have sent us like DVDs, like
- 29:56Speaker 1: I have some archive of it.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Oh you have DVDs because I have VHS tapes.
- 30:01Speaker 1: Oh do you really? Yeah? Well, well I was in
- 30:04Speaker 1: low deaf too, so.
- 30:06Speaker 2: Oh way low deaf was me. I'm kind of like
- 30:10Speaker 2: glad for that because high definition scares me. Now, yes, yeah,
- 30:15Speaker 2: so all my wrinkles, yes, all my pores. I mean
- 30:19Speaker 2: you're seeing everything. Thank goodness for low definition.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Seriously.
- 30:27Speaker 2: Okay, so future plans. Are you guys planning on expanding
- 30:30Speaker 2: your family?
- 30:32Speaker 1: We'd like to I mean, yeah, my wife is she
- 30:35Speaker 1: just turned forty forty one actually.
- 30:38Speaker 2: Now, oh she's a spring chicken.
- 30:41Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, but like we had a hard time with
- 30:44Speaker 1: our first pregnancy. Just got it all kinds of I
- 30:48Speaker 1: U I y up the wise uh huh literally, but
- 30:56Speaker 1: like giving giving your shots, you know, every day, and
- 30:59Speaker 1: it's just like it's really hard on her. Yeah, and
- 31:03Speaker 1: so we would love to you. It's just like we
- 31:06Speaker 1: really want to go through that part of it. I
- 31:08Speaker 1: would love to have like, you know, two more kids probably,
- 31:11Speaker 1: but really.
- 31:12Speaker 2: You just don't know.
- 31:14Speaker 1: I would like to have one more just so she
- 31:16Speaker 1: as sibling, you know, because yes, that's how I felt.
- 31:21Speaker 2: I actually had a really hard pregnancy or a difficult
- 31:25Speaker 2: time getting pregnant as well, and we did iuis, but
- 31:29Speaker 2: not we started the IVF process and never had to
- 31:35Speaker 2: go through it because I ended up getting pregnant. But
- 31:38Speaker 2: what I will say is for the second and you're
- 31:42Speaker 2: you know, your daughter's three, so maybe this can still happen.
- 31:45Speaker 2: But we had a really hard time with Max, and
- 31:48Speaker 2: then after I stopped nursing, I got pregnant with Blakesley
- 31:51Speaker 2: like that, like it's pretty easy. Yeah, So you just
- 31:55Speaker 2: never know. And you know, you hear all these stories
- 31:57Speaker 2: about how people want a child, like are actively trying,
- 32:04Speaker 2: going to doctors, whatever, and the stress and the anxiety
- 32:08Speaker 2: around it not happening can take over for the natural
- 32:14Speaker 2: ability of your body to create, you know. And so
- 32:18Speaker 2: I feel like so many you hear these stories of
- 32:19Speaker 2: people who go on to like adopt and then they
- 32:23Speaker 2: get pregnant or right exactly. So you know, I feel
- 32:28Speaker 2: like probably a lot of it has to not in
- 32:32Speaker 2: your case specifically unnecessarily, but yeah, you just never know.
- 32:36Speaker 2: So who knows. I would love that for you. I
- 32:40Speaker 2: just I love that my kids were close when they
- 32:44Speaker 2: were younger, not so much right now, just because they
- 32:47Speaker 2: have totally different things.
- 32:48Speaker 1: So they're three years apart, though they're.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Twenty months apart, okay, but three years is I mean.
- 32:54Speaker 2: I know people who have like big chunks of time
- 32:58Speaker 2: in between the kids, and it's a great thing, you know.
- 33:01Speaker 2: I think there's pros and cons for everything, you know,
- 33:03Speaker 2: So you just never know. You just got to keep
- 33:07Speaker 2: trying if that's what you want. And I'm sure Olive
- 33:09Speaker 2: would love a sibling.
- 33:11Speaker 1: She would. She loves being around kids. I mean it's
- 33:15Speaker 1: weird because like we'll go to the playground and I
- 33:17Speaker 1: feel bad because I think these kids, you know, that
- 33:20Speaker 1: have gone through the pandemic, like they're just not conditioned
- 33:22Speaker 1: for like hanging out with other kids. And somehow she
- 33:27Speaker 1: she's very extroverted though, so she'll like walk up to the
- 33:30Speaker 1: kids and they look at her like she has three heads.
- 33:32Speaker 1: You know. Oh, I know, I feel bad. I'm like, oh,
- 33:35Speaker 1: you know she could. You can tell that she's kind
- 33:37Speaker 1: of sad because she's like, why don't don't they want
- 33:39Speaker 1: to play with me? And I'm like, I don't know,
- 33:42Speaker 1: it's nothing, that's no.
- 33:45Speaker 2: I love that she's extroverted and can do that because
- 33:48Speaker 2: my kids were not that way and I always wished
- 33:52Speaker 2: for that. That's great encourage that for sure. Yeah, okay,
- 33:56Speaker 2: I have to tell you. I was texting Bob. You know,
- 34:00Speaker 2: Bob is my we co host this together, right, yeah,
- 34:05Speaker 2: Bob Guinea. So I was texting him to see if
- 34:09Speaker 2: he was going to be here, and he said that
- 34:12Speaker 2: you guys, maybe share a birthday.
- 34:14Speaker 1: May May eighth, Uh not.
- 34:17Speaker 2: When's your birthday?
- 34:20Speaker 1: July twentieth birthday?
- 34:23Speaker 2: So he is wrong, not that birthday. I might have
- 34:28Speaker 2: multiple No, I don't know. Anyway, he was like, yeah,
- 34:36Speaker 2: I believe he and I share a birthday, and he
- 34:40Speaker 2: put although he's much younger and I and I said,
- 34:43Speaker 2: isn't everyone.
- 34:46Speaker 1: I love like you two are my hands down, Like
- 34:49Speaker 1: I mean, you're the most thank you notable. But I
- 34:53Speaker 1: ran into him at the Kentucky Derby.
- 34:55Speaker 2: I know, I'm very jealous. I love the Derby and
- 34:58Speaker 2: he goes every You're like, this is his thing, so
- 35:03Speaker 2: he shouldn't be here. But I was like, yay, I
- 35:05Speaker 2: gotta laugh out of Bob Guinea, even if it was
- 35:07Speaker 2: on a text.
- 35:08Speaker 1: So he's down there now, he is.
- 35:10Speaker 2: He was on a plane to Louisville when I texted him,
- 35:13Speaker 2: and that's where.
- 35:13Speaker 1: I ran into him last, like three years old.
- 35:16Speaker 2: Okay, did you always used to go to Jerby?
- 35:18Speaker 1: No, first time going. And in fact, he was like
- 35:21Speaker 1: on the red carpet for some event, and I was
- 35:24Speaker 1: like getting chased down by the security trying to get
- 35:28Speaker 1: into like a red carpet party. And I'm like, Bob,
- 35:32Speaker 1: get me.
- 35:32Speaker 2: In, let me in please.
- 35:34Speaker 1: He's like, look at me, like, who are you?
- 35:36Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 35:37Speaker 1: I mean, he's we've never met, we never met in
