- 0:00Speaker 1: A couple of quick things on the text line. When
- 0:02Speaker 1: I was talking about all the Bowl games that had
- 0:04Speaker 1: been a part of the broadcast, both as the analyst
- 0:07Speaker 1: in the late nineties to early two thousands and then
- 0:09Speaker 1: play by place and so too. Our man CB said,
- 0:13Speaker 1: I remember when Christmas Day was the only Blue Gray game,
- 0:17Speaker 1: that was the only game was on there. He said,
- 0:19Speaker 1: I know, lifetime long worn. James Brown won the MVP
- 0:22Speaker 1: of the Blue Gray Game he played in. Yeah, and
- 0:24Speaker 1: then it became pretty popular on Christmas Day, the Aloha
- 0:29Speaker 1: Bowl before it was the Hawaii Bowl there, and then
- 0:34Speaker 1: there was that, and then then the NFL kind of
- 0:38Speaker 1: got involved with that, so now you know, yeah, yeah,
- 0:40Speaker 1: Christmas games. And somebody else said old CB said that
- 0:43Speaker 1: ninety five Sugar Bowl game you mentioned is remembered for
- 0:46Speaker 1: the Ron McKelvey news breaking before the game, the roster imposter. Yeah,
- 0:51Speaker 1: it's just amazing you think about all these days, twenty
- 0:54Speaker 1: six year old dude going by Ron mcalvy's real name
- 0:59Speaker 1: was Ron Weaver. And then somebody else said, what's the
- 1:02Speaker 1: worst Bowl you've had to call or been to, not
- 1:05Speaker 1: necessarily score, but experience. And I'm going to tell you
- 1:07Speaker 1: I learned a lesson from this. I kind of had
- 1:10Speaker 1: developed that mindset by the time I got around two
- 1:13Speaker 1: thousand and eight, two thousand and nine, whatever, that I
- 1:17Speaker 1: was really worn out on the Holiday Bowl. He said,
- 1:20Speaker 1: A Holiday bowls San Diego was pretty cool. Eh, this
- 1:22Speaker 1: time of year, the Holiday Bowl is kind of damp
- 1:24Speaker 1: and rainy. Plus back in those days it was played
- 1:26Speaker 1: at Qualcomm Stadium, which was an awful place to call
- 1:31Speaker 1: a football game.
- 1:33Speaker 2: An awful place to call a football game.
- 1:36Speaker 1: And because you're way back from it, because it's a
- 1:38Speaker 1: baseball thing, and it was just bad, not good. But
- 1:43Speaker 1: I learned from twenty ten never take bowl games for granted.
- 1:46Speaker 1: When Texas and go, I said, I'll be good with
- 1:47Speaker 1: any bowl game from Allen and I have been.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Our man.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Greg Tepper, managing editor at Dave Campbell Texas Football Magazine,
- 1:55Speaker 1: has been around his share of postseason bowl games. Did
- 1:58Speaker 1: you ever go to a bowl game when you were
- 2:00Speaker 1: a student at Missouri?
- 2:02Speaker 2: I did.
- 2:03Speaker 3: I went to probably the best season in Missoo history
- 2:08Speaker 3: in two thousand and seven. They played in me two
- 2:10Speaker 3: thousand and eight Cotton Bowl against Arkansas and UH and
- 2:16Speaker 3: dominated Arkansas.
- 2:17Speaker 2: That was Darren.
- 2:18Speaker 3: McFadden and Felix Jones. But the running back who stole
- 2:21Speaker 3: the show that day was Tony Temple who set the
- 2:25Speaker 3: uh who set the Cotton Bowl rushing record in that game.
- 2:29Speaker 3: And I was there, and I was I had enjoyed
- 2:33Speaker 3: my New Year's Eve a little bit too much, so
- 2:35Speaker 3: I remember some of it, but I was there. There's
- 2:39Speaker 3: photographic evidence of me there, So uh, it was a
- 2:42Speaker 3: it was a good time.
- 2:43Speaker 2: And yeah, it was.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Chase Daniel out there slinging it for for Miszoo's Chase Daniel,
- 2:47Speaker 3: Jeremy Macklin, Chase Kaufman, and Martin Rucker. I was a
- 2:50Speaker 3: fun team. That was a really fun team. That was
- 2:51Speaker 3: seven Zoo team.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it was. It was a good team, all right.
- 2:55Speaker 1: First of all, keep it on the college front. How
- 2:58Speaker 1: about the news you guys had been put up there
- 3:01Speaker 1: about uh John k being promoted at Rice from linebackers
- 3:05Speaker 1: coach to defensive CORNA. We know, you know what, and
- 3:09Speaker 1: I'm sure some of the coaches didn't know what their
- 3:11Speaker 1: fate was going to be after the coaching change was
- 3:13Speaker 1: made with Mike Bluegren uh not being retained and Scott
- 3:17Speaker 1: Abell coming in. But how about John k being promoted
- 3:20Speaker 1: defensive coordinator.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Uh, it's fabulous. I think it's a fabulous move. And
- 3:24Speaker 3: I think that what's interesting is that, you know, whenever
- 3:27Speaker 3: a guy makes that lead from high school to college, uh,
- 3:29Speaker 3: you know, as an assistant, there's usually no guarantee of
- 3:33Speaker 3: whether or not it's going.
- 3:33Speaker 2: To work there.
- 3:35Speaker 3: There have been there have been really highly successful high
- 3:37Speaker 3: school football coaches who jump to the college drinks it
- 3:39Speaker 3: just doesn't work out for them.
- 3:40Speaker 2: That's okay.
- 3:41Speaker 3: They're just wired different ways, so you never really know.
- 3:44Speaker 3: But I think that we got word pretty early on
- 3:47Speaker 3: in in John K's time there at Rice that Okay,
- 3:50Speaker 3: this is going to be his forever home here, Like
- 3:53Speaker 3: he's a college guy. Now, he gets it, he fits here,
- 3:56Speaker 3: and he's got the ball knowledge to make it ask
- 4:00Speaker 3: And I think that that's what you've seen here and
- 4:02Speaker 3: he has gained that kind of respect. I think what
- 4:06Speaker 3: you are in what you're going to see here is
- 4:08Speaker 3: the he is on a fast track to being a
- 4:11Speaker 3: college head coach. Maybe maybe not at the FBS level
- 4:15Speaker 3: right away, and maybe they're stopped somewhere at SCS or
- 4:18Speaker 3: something like that, but I think he is on that
- 4:20Speaker 3: fast track. He is following that that kind of trajectory
- 4:24Speaker 3: of going from a position coach to then you know,
- 4:26Speaker 3: even when there's not the results right to going to
- 4:29Speaker 3: defensive coordinator. If things worked out for an under Scott
- 4:31Speaker 3: Abel and uh, you know, the way they play offense,
- 4:35Speaker 3: it actually might behoove them to have a pretty good
- 4:37Speaker 3: defense as a result, then then he may he's going
- 4:40Speaker 3: to start getting some looks. And certainly his his resume
- 4:43Speaker 3: in the high school ranks, uh stands up ins almost
- 4:46Speaker 3: anybody else's. But but we had gotten word about a
- 4:49Speaker 3: year into John k time there at Rice that yeah,
- 4:52Speaker 3: he's a college guy. Now he's he's not heading back
- 4:54Speaker 3: to high school anytime sooner. And I think that that
- 4:56Speaker 3: Scott Abel recognized that whenever he took over there at Rice.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Are you going over to the Toyota Stadium for the
- 5:03Speaker 1: Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl to night between Memphis and West Virginia.
- 5:08Speaker 2: I won't be.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Going over to the Toyota Stadium for the Scooters Coffee
- 5:13Speaker 3: Frisco Bowl of Texas Extravaganza, and and and you.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Know I will be heading over there.
- 5:19Speaker 3: Tonight is actually as you as you well know, tonight
- 5:23Speaker 3: is the last night before the state championship start, and
- 5:25Speaker 3: so tonight I need to make sure my kids remember
- 5:29Speaker 3: what I look like for the next five days because
- 5:32Speaker 3: I'm going to be there, but I'll be paying attention
- 5:34Speaker 3: to what's going on over there in Frisco.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I noticed on Twitter you showed how you
- 5:39Speaker 1: were laying out all your clothes for.
- 5:41Speaker 2: The next several days.
- 5:43Speaker 3: That's a chore there, it is because here's the thing,
- 5:46Speaker 3: and this is what people don't understand. Okay, uh, you
- 5:49Speaker 3: have to wait until the teams are decided all in
- 5:52Speaker 3: the games, and then you have to figure out exactly
- 5:55Speaker 3: what colors those guys are, and you have to avoid
- 5:57Speaker 3: those colors because like, for example, you know you and
- 6:00Speaker 3: I are going to be on the call tomorrow for
- 6:01Speaker 3: tomorrow night for Munster and Shiner fat really excited. I
- 6:05Speaker 3: can't show up in a red tie for Munster. I
- 6:07Speaker 3: can't show up in a purple tie for for for Shiner.
- 6:11Speaker 3: I've got to be smart about these things, and luckily
- 6:13Speaker 3: I have a highly trained, extremely savvy fashion consultant and
- 6:18Speaker 3: and stylists who also is my wife that helps me
- 6:21Speaker 3: pick out my outfit.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a good thing. Now there's another way to
- 6:25Speaker 1: look at that chap. Like, for example, I have Richmond
- 6:29Speaker 1: Randall and South ok Cliff on Friday night. Well, they
- 6:31Speaker 1: both have black in their uniforms. I'm gonna wear my
- 6:33Speaker 1: black suit Friday night.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Listen.
- 6:36Speaker 3: That's that's fine. I think that's okay. They're both man, That's.
- 6:39Speaker 2: The thing hit me.
- 6:40Speaker 3: If it's a if it's as if it's green versus green,
- 6:43Speaker 3: I think you're okay to wear a green tie. The
- 6:45Speaker 3: issue is going to be if it's green versus blue,
- 6:47Speaker 3: and you show up in a green tie, then suddenly
- 6:49Speaker 3: the blue team is going to think that you're you're
- 6:51Speaker 3: in the tank for for for them.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a good point. It's good.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Let's talk about some of these games. Uh, we'll start
- 6:57Speaker 1: off with and we've kind of done a little bit
- 6:59Speaker 1: of the breakdown on that anyway. But I don't know
- 7:02Speaker 1: if breakdown is going to be the proper phraseology.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Maybe it will be for the two six man games.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Tomorrow, because I can't remember two state championship games in
- 7:13Speaker 1: the same classification that have perhaps as disparate a viewpoint
- 7:21Speaker 1: on who is probably gonna win and who's probably gonna
- 7:23Speaker 1: lose is what we have in these two games.
- 7:26Speaker 3: It's really interesting, and it's for different reasons. Okay, So
- 7:29Speaker 3: the one A Division two game, Jaydon is a pretty
- 7:32Speaker 3: clear favorite in that game, and that's because they are
- 7:35Speaker 3: playing one of the most unlikely state finalists we've seen
- 7:38Speaker 3: a long time, Oakwood five lost. Oakwood, a team that
- 7:42Speaker 3: was two and five in the middle of the season,
- 7:45Speaker 3: is a title game because they just got white hot
- 7:47Speaker 3: at the right time and they found They've won on
- 7:49Speaker 3: the margins in two real upset wins in the regional
- 7:52Speaker 3: final over Irodale and then in the state semifinal in
- 7:55Speaker 3: what what I think was a real gobsmacker against Oglesby,
- 8:00Speaker 3: but they've found a way through. They're into their first
- 8:02Speaker 3: ever eleven mans or six man state championship under a lump.
- 8:05Speaker 3: JJ Johnson the head coach. I know they're fired up
- 8:08Speaker 3: down there in Oakwood, but Jaden enters that game is
- 8:10Speaker 3: pretty clear favorite, I think simply because of the Cinderella
- 8:13Speaker 3: nature of Oakwood. And then in the one A Division
- 8:15Speaker 3: one game with white Face, a first time state finalist,
- 8:18Speaker 3: undefeated taking on Gordon. You know, this is the only
- 8:21Speaker 3: match of von Beaton's in the state championship games going
- 8:24Speaker 3: on tomorrow at two o'clock and Gordon is a pretty
- 8:27Speaker 3: clear favorite in that one. Even though White Faces the
- 8:30Speaker 3: pret aren't good team, They're not an accidental three fourteen
- 8:34Speaker 3: and oh they're a good ball club. It's that Gordon
- 8:37Speaker 3: has looked like perhaps an historically excellent ball club, and
- 8:42Speaker 3: I think that is the thing that sets them apart.
- 8:44Speaker 3: Their defense is allowing something like six points per game,
- 8:48Speaker 3: which is six man football is beyond beyond belief. It
- 8:53Speaker 3: is absolutely remarkable what they've done. So you do have
- 8:56Speaker 3: clear favorites in the six man games, but I think
- 8:58Speaker 3: that they're for different reasons.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Yeah, would you put Oaquid in the category of say,
- 9:03Speaker 1: what was it a few years ago bowling against Gunner
- 9:08Speaker 1: of first time or teams that were in the state
- 9:11Speaker 1: championship and you wonder how.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Did they get here?
- 9:15Speaker 1: I mean, I go all the way back, gosh, I mean,
- 9:18Speaker 1: I can think back to some way on back in
- 9:21Speaker 1: the day where you were just kind of uless. Trinity
- 9:23Speaker 1: in ninety two is five and five going to the playoffs.
- 9:26Speaker 1: They reached the final against a juggernaut and Judson who
- 9:28Speaker 1: beat them fifty two to nothing.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Things like that is like one of these things is
- 9:33Speaker 2: not like the others.
- 9:35Speaker 3: They're definitely in that category. I think that that is
- 9:37Speaker 3: really a lot of what they've been able to do
- 9:39Speaker 3: is they've gotten hot at the right time. They won
- 9:42Speaker 3: the right games by Finn Margins, they pulled some upsets
- 9:45Speaker 3: playing and simple, and I think you've had a couple
- 9:47Speaker 3: of those you mentioned, you know, I think bowling is
- 9:49Speaker 3: an excellent example. Then, of course Vernon Jackson Lee in
- 9:52Speaker 3: the way, do you remember actually another team that had
- 9:54Speaker 3: gonna played Paul Pewett when they moved in the title game.
- 9:57Speaker 3: That was pretty unlikely whenever they kind of rash the party.
- 10:01Speaker 3: But it has been a minute since we had a
- 10:03Speaker 3: true like what are you doing here? Type team in
- 10:06Speaker 3: the state championship game. But I would say certainly Oakwood
- 10:10Speaker 3: would qualify. It's interesting if you were to in one
- 10:17Speaker 3: a Division two, Jayden might be the number one team,
- 10:21Speaker 3: But I think that when you take a where oak
- 10:25Speaker 3: Wood would be, that might be like fourteenth or fifteenth.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Right right, Okay, all right, So you mentioned to a
- 10:30Speaker 1: division one, which you and I are calling tomorrow, and
- 10:32Speaker 1: I that could be a real banger. I if we
- 10:35Speaker 1: resist the temptation to refer to Munster versus Shiner simply
- 10:40Speaker 1: as our colleague Aaron Hartigan.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Calls it the beer cheese Bowl.
- 10:44Speaker 1: If we resist that temptation and we just get down
- 10:47Speaker 1: to how big this game is. It's a pretty dog
- 10:50Speaker 1: one important game and a great matchup.
- 10:54Speaker 3: Oh, it's a spectacular matchup. I think it's one of
- 10:57Speaker 3: the best matchups of the weekend. And you take a
- 11:00Speaker 3: look at what these teams have done well. They actually
- 11:02Speaker 3: that think matchup really well with one another. You're gonna
- 11:05Speaker 3: have Cason Carney at the control of what has been
- 11:07Speaker 3: a high powered monster attack. They have been rolling right now.
- 11:10Speaker 3: The junior quarterback has stepped up in a huge way.
- 11:12Speaker 3: They have a number of weapons on the outside, but
- 11:15Speaker 3: he is really the straw that series of drink. And
- 11:18Speaker 3: then for Shiner folks, the split back verer is back. Okay,
- 11:22Speaker 3: in the Year of Our Lord twenty twenty four, we
- 11:24Speaker 3: got a team running the split back veer in a
- 11:27Speaker 3: state championship game. There's gonna be some There's gonna be
- 11:31Speaker 3: some knowing nods and some Arry smiles across the state
- 11:34Speaker 3: whenever they see the Comanche lineup. They run it really well.
- 11:37Speaker 3: Carson shooting their quarterback's been terrific. They got a sophomore
- 11:40Speaker 3: running back in Quincy Jones and more importantly, their defense,
- 11:43Speaker 3: very very really physical ball club. And what I love
- 11:46Speaker 3: about small school. These are two teams that when I
- 11:48Speaker 3: talk with coaches about it, they say, man, they are
- 11:50Speaker 3: really really physical, both of them. They really lay the lumber.
- 11:53Speaker 3: And then you go and you look at their rosters
- 11:55Speaker 3: and for example, Shiner average is one hundred and sixty
- 11:58Speaker 3: eight pounds in this game. So it's gonna be it's
- 12:01Speaker 3: gonna be physical, but maybe in a different kind of way.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I know that.
- 12:04Speaker 1: If folks talk the Verer died with Highland Park in
- 12:07Speaker 1: the late nineties, think again, it's it's come back. Okay,
- 12:10Speaker 1: Uh to a d one Gnado and Stamford.
- 12:13Speaker 2: How about that one?
- 12:14Speaker 3: Another spectacular game and another kind of kind of strength
- 12:18Speaker 3: on strength matchup. You know, Ganado was our preseason number
- 12:21Speaker 3: one team, uh, and they've lived up to the hype.
- 12:23Speaker 3: Josh Irvin, all of thirty years old, will lead Gnado
- 12:27Speaker 3: into the state championship game for the first time ever.
- 12:30Speaker 3: They are so fired up there and they've got a
- 12:32Speaker 3: really great shot here because of quarterback Bryce Ollman and
- 12:35Speaker 3: sophomore running back Logan Burris and a defense I think
- 12:38Speaker 3: is peaking at the right time. But they will have
- 12:40Speaker 3: to get past one of the most unstoppable teams in
- 12:42Speaker 3: all of two A in the Stanford Bulldogs, because Wayne
- 12:45Speaker 3: Hutchinson back in the back in the saddle there, and
- 12:48Speaker 3: they have got a guy in Caston Vega who is
- 12:51Speaker 3: a two way a running back and linebacker. He is
- 12:56Speaker 3: going to take your breath away. I'm really excited for
- 12:58Speaker 3: a whole state to really get a look at that
- 13:00Speaker 3: young man because I think he's really special.
- 13:01Speaker 1: All right, Can Woodville stay on the field with Gunner
- 13:03Speaker 1: and three A D two?
- 13:05Speaker 3: Yes? And I'm telling on you all. Okay, this is
- 13:07Speaker 3: the one. I'm not calling an upset, but I'm telling
- 13:09Speaker 3: you that Woodville profiles as the type of team that
- 13:13Speaker 3: tends to give Gunner trouble in state championship games. Highly
- 13:16Speaker 3: athletic teams win a lot of speed on the outside,
- 13:20Speaker 3: and they've got it. Quarterback Luke Bavin has been terrific.
- 13:23Speaker 3: He's got a terrific story too as well. I want
- 13:26Speaker 3: to say that his mom is like a like a
- 13:28Speaker 3: champion volleyball player from Brazil. It's amazing. And then but
- 13:32Speaker 3: they've got a tad On Hunter at the running back spot.
- 13:34Speaker 3: I don't think they're you know, I think Gunner's your
- 13:36Speaker 3: favorite to win the three pet but I don't think
- 13:38Speaker 3: that this is some sort of walkover. I think Woodville's
- 13:41Speaker 3: got a great shot in this game.
- 13:42Speaker 1: I said at the start of the year the two
- 13:44Speaker 1: most fascinating classifications to me were three A Division one
- 13:48Speaker 1: and five A Division two. And I'm tickled that they
- 13:50Speaker 1: get to call both of those finals and you and
- 13:52Speaker 1: I get to work Columbus Malakoff, which I'm just saying
- 13:54Speaker 1: right now, I think quite well could wind up being
- 13:58Speaker 1: the best game of all of them.
- 14:00Speaker 3: Let's start with this. It's the best quarterback matchup of
- 14:02Speaker 3: the weekend. In Mike Jones for Malakoff taking on Adam
- 14:06Speaker 3: Shovel for Columbus. That game is fantastic. I'm in the
- 14:08Speaker 3: point to my friend Matt Stepp, I said, this is
- 14:12Speaker 3: a you know, when you when you put together a
- 14:14Speaker 3: wrestling card, a professional wrestling card. Of course, the World
- 14:17Speaker 3: Heavyweight Championship goes on last, but you need a really
- 14:20Speaker 3: big match in the middle to keep people excited. This
- 14:22Speaker 3: is the Intercontinental Championship, is what this is. Okay, this
- 14:26Speaker 3: is Shawn Michaels versus Brett Hart. This is a fantastic
- 14:30Speaker 3: kind of midway point of the State championship games.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Probably the first time anybody's ever compared Columbus to Sewn Michaels.
- 14:35Speaker 2: But anyway, YEA for.
- 14:37Speaker 1: AD two, the Carthage is Carthage's Carthage is Carthage.
- 14:42Speaker 2: But can Levega hang with him?
- 14:44Speaker 3: I think they can, And I'll tell you that you
- 14:46Speaker 3: know Scott Sarratt Fantasy nine and zero State Championship Games,
- 14:50Speaker 3: but Don Hyde is a ball coaching jack and a
- 14:52Speaker 3: defensive wizard that is a terrific chess match. There can
- 14:56Speaker 3: the Lavega defense fine stops on Carthage. And if you
- 15:00Speaker 3: have not seen Waco la Vega Sophtoball quarterback Courtney Parr,
- 15:04Speaker 3: I think he's a real breakout star in this game.
- 15:06Speaker 3: But I think the karth is probably your favorite to
- 15:08Speaker 3: win number ten under scouts are out for eighty one.
- 15:12Speaker 1: I'm excited to get this one because I look at
- 15:15Speaker 1: the contrast. Kilgore has all of this great athleticism and
- 15:19Speaker 1: good coaching and Solana is just a machine, which I
- 15:23Speaker 1: think is sets up for something.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Good playmakers playing a simple bo Bentley, the superstar quarterback
- 15:30Speaker 3: for Solana, he's in box office. And then Jadie Sanders,
- 15:33Speaker 3: the Michigan signee for kill Gore, is a guy who
- 15:36Speaker 3: can take in the distance every single snap. He needs
- 15:39Speaker 3: a lot of fun to watch. And I think this
- 15:41Speaker 3: is going to be a home run hitting contest back
- 15:42Speaker 3: and forth. How does the Salina offensive line, which have
- 15:45Speaker 3: been so good, deal with that rage and red seven
- 15:49Speaker 3: for the Kilgore Bulldog That is a big matchup in
- 15:52Speaker 3: this one.
- 15:52Speaker 1: I was talking to my wife today when I got
- 15:54Speaker 1: off the conference call with Brian Randall, the head coach
- 15:58Speaker 1: of Richmond Randall today and she asked me about this
- 16:00Speaker 1: game in five a D two between Richmond Randall and
- 16:03Speaker 1: South O'cliffe and I said, it will be hard hitting,
- 16:06Speaker 1: it will be fast, and I said, and it will
- 16:08Speaker 1: be mean.
- 16:10Speaker 2: Do you see that that way?
- 16:11Speaker 3: Yeah, these two teams are going to take tire irons
- 16:14Speaker 3: to each other for forty eight minutes. It's going to
- 16:15Speaker 3: be physical. And this is the Randall defense as the
- 16:19Speaker 3: only UIL team to not allow more than fourteen points
- 16:22Speaker 3: in the game this season. They will go up against
- 16:25Speaker 3: the South O'cliffe offense that I think has found some
- 16:27Speaker 3: balance with quarterback Carter Kapeki. The question for me in
- 16:30Speaker 3: this one is a a pedigree disparity Randall's and there
- 16:34Speaker 3: Randall didn't exist the first time Southcliffe made a state
- 16:37Speaker 3: championship in twenty twenty one. And then on the other side,
- 16:41Speaker 3: can the Randal offensive line, which has been a bit
- 16:43Speaker 3: of a trouble spot, can they hold up against a
- 16:45Speaker 3: ferocious front seven.
- 16:46Speaker 1: For South Oacliff's, Smithson Valley and Highland Park. What did
- 16:49Speaker 1: you say the other night on this five eight one game.
- 16:52Speaker 1: If you like blocking and tackling, you like this game.
- 16:55Speaker 3: Yeah, this is just real fundamental football, Like these are
- 16:58Speaker 3: teams that are just good at the little thing. They
- 17:00Speaker 3: don't beat themself, and of course they're exceptionally well coached.
- 17:03Speaker 3: Randy Allen versus Larry Hill, it's number two versus number nine.
- 17:07Speaker 3: As far as the winningest coaches in Texas high school
- 17:09Speaker 3: football history, they've got to combine seven hundred and sixty
- 17:12Speaker 3: four wins behind between them. So there's a great chess
- 17:15Speaker 3: match here at the nanco for me is quarterback Buck Randall,
- 17:17Speaker 3: the sophomore for Highland Park.
- 17:19Speaker 1: So that's a very un Highland Park type name. I
- 17:22Speaker 1: just have to say that, you know all right. And
- 17:24Speaker 1: finally in six A, I've got Drew Sanders coming on
- 17:27Speaker 1: next hour. His Vandergrift team, I know, is raised an
- 17:31Speaker 1: eyebrow er two, you know when they blistered Steel and
- 17:34Speaker 1: then coming back from down fourteen early in down ten
- 17:38Speaker 1: late and a half to beat a really good Summer
- 17:39Speaker 1: Creek team. And they play this South Lake Carroll team
- 17:42Speaker 1: that refuses to go away even as they continue to
- 17:44Speaker 1: lose running backs.
- 17:46Speaker 3: I think two teams of destiny, right, I mean these
- 17:49Speaker 3: are two, and I think a really underrated quarterback matchup.
- 17:52Speaker 3: Miles Talo Decky, the quarterback for Vandergrift has been nails
- 17:54Speaker 3: down the stretch, and then Angelo Renda for South Lake
- 17:57Speaker 3: Carrol has stepped up in a big way because they
- 17:59Speaker 3: are on running back number three. The other game within
- 18:02Speaker 3: the game here is that offensive line for Vandergriff, which
- 18:05Speaker 3: has been so good for them, up against a really
- 18:07Speaker 3: athletic front for Southla Carroll led by Jack Van Dorsalier.
- 18:11Speaker 3: That is a real money matchup in the second the
- 18:14Speaker 3: penultimate game of the season, all right.
- 18:16Speaker 2: And then finally you have the six A D one.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Jerry Forrest and Pigskin Preps computer either sees it disclosure
- 18:24Speaker 1: a chicken down. It says it's a pickham game between
- 18:27Speaker 1: west Lake and North Crowley.
- 18:28Speaker 2: Do you see it similarly?
- 18:31Speaker 3: I do. I think there's I think there's a notion
- 18:35Speaker 3: that that North Crowley has got too much weaponry. And
- 18:38Speaker 3: certainly they are beloaded to Chris Jefferson, Quinton Gibson, Cornelius Warren,
- 18:41Speaker 3: Daniel Bray, all the playmakers they got. But my thing
- 18:45Speaker 3: is in a tonnel weapons in North Shore and call
- 18:52Speaker 3: an Elliott Schopper. What a player for Westlake? Can Reese?
- 18:56Speaker 3: Why is the quarterback coming off his best game of
- 18:59Speaker 3: the Chaparrelle Kenny come up with an even better game
- 19:02Speaker 3: he can than. I think Wesley's gonna win the title.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Okay, by the way, I'll leave you with this, Texter said,
- 19:07Speaker 1: reminded us that Shawn Michaels actually played football for the
- 19:10Speaker 1: Randolph Rohawks.
- 19:12Speaker 3: It all comes back to high school football.
- 19:15Speaker 2: Hey, I'll see you up there tomorrow. I appreciate the
- 19:18Speaker 2: time today, looking forward to it.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Well, all right, that's Greg Chaffer managing get Her at
- 19:22Speaker 1: Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine. He'll join me on the
- 19:25Speaker 1: call tomorrow night for Shiner and Munster I've got the
- 19:29Speaker 1: two six man games prior to that with Granger Hunters.
- 19:31Speaker 1: He'll join me on that and then there'll be other
- 19:33Speaker 1: games throughout the week. Well here from Quinn. You were
- 19:35Speaker 1: coming up on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone.
