- 0:04Happy Saturday morning, everybody.
- 0:08The Gateway dirt nationals inside the Dome, downtown Saint
- 0:13Louis, they have not disappointed.
- 0:17They have been unbelievable. Off the charts.
- 0:20Crowd on feet. That's the new one.
- 0:25Crowd on feet, Nick Hoffman says.
- 0:29Man, we say that all the time around our shop.
- 0:32Crowd on feet. But boy course we raced on
- 0:37Thursday night, but last night I was at the Dome and we watched
- 0:42and wow, you talk about unbelievable racing.
- 0:46They the the new phrase, it rained inside the Dome.
- 0:53I love it. That means they watered the
- 0:56tracks so much, made the cars, you know, fast.
- 0:59And it was exciting. So that really did help the show
- 1:03last night. It was unbelievable.
- 1:06And we are going to do it, sadly tonight and that's it.
- 1:11But boy, we got a lot to do yet. Racing's going to start at 3:00
- 1:14tonight. I want to say that it's 8:15 and
- 1:22I see you all. You're just getting out of bed.
- 1:25Of course all you drunks are still sleeping.
- 1:28Or some of you feel so bad that you had to get out of bed
- 1:35because you feel so bad. I saw you all last night.
- 1:40You were having the best time of your life.
- 1:42And I'll say one thing about the Dome.
- 1:45It brings out the best I saw. What was it?
- 1:50Oh man, just 333 guys dressed up as pimps.
- 1:56He did. He.
- 1:56I saw three of you dressed up and you was having a good time.
- 2:00Then I saw another man. He was like in a little, you
- 2:05know, wheelchair, electrical wheelchair, like, and he had a
- 2:08big boom box. He was playing music.
- 2:10And man, I'll tell you what, it was awesome to see you all have
- 2:14such a great time. Obviously this Gateway Dirt
- 2:18Nationals is getting bigger and bigger.
- 2:21Listen, I'm. I'm just happy for the sport.
- 2:24Please forgive me for being happy for the sport, the
- 2:29totality of the sport. I don't care what it is, just
- 2:33racing, auto racing. So you know the Chili bowls
- 2:37coming up, that's the middle of January, that's going to be big
- 2:41crowd will be on feet at the Chili Bowl.
- 2:44I know a lot of, you know, full bodied racers or as you you open
- 2:49wheel racers say those taxi cab racers get it.
- 2:53If you race a full bodied car, you're a taxi cab racer.
- 2:57So big week in December, January.
- 3:00It just seems like racing just goes 24/7.
- 3:02Now offseason, When's that? Because they got it now with the
- 3:08Dome in December, Chilly Bowl in January, Volution February, see
- 3:14what I mean? Clarksville in March, you know,
- 3:19so I would say the only week that's kind of off a little bit,
- 3:22really March when you stop and think about it.
- 3:28So coffee with Kenny, right? Coffee with Kenny is my
- 3:34experiences. What, what did the Herminator
- 3:36experience? What do I have to tell you?
- 3:39So last night I'm sitting with this this man and I look over
- 3:45and boy, he's drinking these. I don't know what it was Crown
- 3:48and Coke, Jack and Coke. But by God he's on his about his
- 3:51third one and these babies are going down like water.
- 3:55And I'm like, oh boy, he's going, he's going to light up
- 3:57pretty soon. Sure enough, right on cue, he
- 4:03starts he's not a this man was nice and he was not heckling me.
- 4:08But boy, when people start, when we, when we start drinking, we
- 4:14become chatty. Kathy, when we start drinking,
- 4:19we start talking. This little boy, he meant well I
- 4:23think, but he did one of these deals with me.
- 4:28So. So how did you make it to
- 4:30NASCAR? I said, well, I said how old are
- 4:34you? He goes, I'm 38.
- 4:36I said, so you're 38. I said I'm 60.
- 4:40I said my first my first time in NASCAR was 1989.
- 4:45He's like, I was four years old. I said, well, that's why I
- 4:50really can't tell exactly how I made it to NASCAR, because it's
- 4:53a different game nowadays. No, no, no.
- 4:59How did you make it to NASCAR? How did you make it to NASCAR?
- 5:04And it dawned on me this, this little bitch is heckling me.
- 5:09He's heckling mouth. You know, I get a handful of
- 5:13these people, they they going to get me.
- 5:15They going to get me. I'm going to get him because,
- 5:18see, they're nice. But when they start drinking,
- 5:22they they going to get me. And it made me think, how did I
- 5:27make it to NASCAR? Kenny Wallace, how did you to
- 5:30make it to NASCAR? Well, he asked me about a fourth
- 5:32time. Come on, Wallace, how'd you make
- 5:35it to NASCAR? It dawned on me.
- 5:37I looked at him and I said, well, we built our own
- 5:41motherfuking race car. We built our own race car #36.
- 5:47Cox treated lumber and we put her on a trailer and we went to
- 5:51Daytona. He went like this and we sat
- 5:58QuickTime, ran 192.3 mph and I got lucky and I was on pole for
- 6:06my first NASCAR Xfinity race NASCAR Bush Series.
- 6:12Here we go again. It was the NASCAR Bush Series
- 6:16and it was the Nationwide Series.
- 6:17Now it's the Xfinity Series and I said we built our own race
- 6:22car, Wallace Racing. That's the, that's the sign up
- 6:27there at my shop right now. I took those letters down from
- 6:31like 1991 and and I've had them in my toolbox forever.
- 6:37So then I put them back up. So when you see my dirt shop now
- 6:41those Wallace Racing signs, that was from our very first race
- 6:45shop down in North Carolina. So made me think.
- 6:51But afterwards it dawned on me, this guy, this guy was 38 years
- 6:59old. He was from this new generation.
- 7:00He was trying to get me to say I I I took money and I I gave it
- 7:07to somebody and they they let me drive their car.
- 7:13This is why I told him. You know, when I told the guy,
- 7:17he asked me the 4th time, no walls.
- 7:19How did you make it to NASCAR? I'd like had it up to here.
- 7:25And I said, well, we built our own motherfuking race car,
- 7:29loaded it on a trailer, and we drove inside the Daytona Motor
- 7:34Speedway with my bread truck. You see pictures of that truck
- 7:39that was red. We painted it white, put Cox
- 7:44Tree lumber on it, took my ASA truck trailer.
- 7:49The big bread truck went to Daytona and set QuickTime.
- 7:53We finished 9th. We were running second and broke
- 7:57a vowel spring. But anyway, the old guy brought
- 8:00back memories and he kept trying to Heckle me a little bit.
- 8:05And so finally I just used reverse psychology.
- 8:07I said, I said, well, I'm going to go up here and sit by my
- 8:10daughter. I said thank you for being so
- 8:12nice to me. Whoa.
- 8:17Gets exhausting at times, everybody.
- 8:21Hey, it may be raining outside. It might be raining outside on
- 8:26this Saturday in Saint Louis, but it's sunny inside the Dome.
- 8:31We'll see you at 3:00. Racing kicks off at 3:00 today.
- 8:36Get your ass out of bed. Let's go.
