- 0:58We will take a look together at the five core principles of.
- 1:02NDI, welcome back to the Everyday Eurasia Podcast.
- 1:05I'm your host this week, Chad Gibbons.
- 1:07I'm the discipleship coordinator here on the Eurasia region.
- 1:10And this week we're talking discipleship.
- 1:13Specifically, we're talking about NDI, Nazarene Discipleship
- 1:17International, the discipleship arm of the Nazarene Church.
- 1:21And today we're looking at the third core principle of NDI.
- 1:25This is the principles that we hold on to as we become
- 1:29disciples and make disciples, and that is fervent prayer.
- 1:35Discipleship can't happen without prayer.
- 1:38Now I just have one thought for us today and that is I think
- 1:42sometimes our prayers are backwards.
- 1:44If you haven't prayed today, I encourage you to do so.
- 1:47But as you do it today, I want you to try something different.
- 1:50I, I, I believe this will help. I'm taking this idea from
- 1:53Colossians chapter one, verse 9 through 14, where Paul writes as
- 1:59he's talking to the the church in Colossi.
- 2:03There he says for this reason, since the day we heard about
- 2:06you, we have not stopped praying for you and listen to Paul's
- 2:10prayer for the church. We continually ask God to fill
- 2:16you with the knowledge of His will through all the wisdom and
- 2:21understanding that the Spirit gives.
- 2:23His prayer is that God would fill them with the knowledge of
- 2:26His will. Why verse 10?
- 2:30So that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please
- 2:34Him in every way, bearing fruit in every good work, growing in
- 2:39the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power
- 2:44according to His glorious might. So that you may have great
- 2:48endurance and patience and giving joyful thanks to the
- 2:52Father who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of His
- 2:56holy people in the Kingdom of light.
- 2:58For he has rescued us from the from the dominion of darkness
- 3:02and brought us into the Kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we
- 3:07have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
- 3:10Wow, what amazing thing Paul wants for the church.
- 3:14But what does it start with? Paul says, my prayer for you is
- 3:18that you would be filled with the knowledge of God's will.
- 3:22Now that is ironic to me because I feel like a lot of our prayers
- 3:28are the exact opposite of that. We come to God and maybe we're
- 3:34in a difficult place in our lives.
- 3:36Maybe you're in a difficult place in your life right now.
- 3:40And if you're like me, you come to God and you say, God, I need
- 3:43help. I need you to Get Me Out of
- 3:45this. Or there's a doctor's
- 3:48appointment coming up or an interview coming up or something
- 3:52at work happening and you say, God, I need this to happen.
- 3:57I need so and so to do this. I need this job to come through.
- 4:04You have these ideas and you bring them to God and you say,
- 4:08God, please make this idea happen.
- 4:10In a sense, your prayer time is spent filling God with the
- 4:14knowledge of your will. Where Paul says my prayer for
- 4:19you is that you would be filled with the knowledge of God's
- 4:23will. So why do we spend all our time
- 4:27trying to fill God with the knowledge of our will?
- 4:31Certainly God knows our will. Certainly God knows what we need
- 4:36before we even ask him. Didn't Jesus say that?
- 4:40So why do we spend all of our time in prayer, telling God
- 4:43something he already knows, telling God, giving God ideas
- 4:48for what He needs to do for us? I'd like you to try this.
- 4:52As you pray, try not telling God what you need and instead today
- 5:01ask God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through
- 5:05all wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives.
- 5:08In your prayer, try to be silent.
- 5:11Try not to say anything and ask God that He would fill you with
- 5:18what he wants to say instead. Lord, as we come before you now
- 5:25and as we go about our lives that have become so busy, I ask
- 5:32for each person listening to this podcast that that the most
- 5:35important thing would be that you would fill them with the
- 5:38knowledge of your will. I know there's many people going
- 5:41through many difficult things, very serious and even life
- 5:45threatening things, but I believe Lord the most important
- 5:48thing for all of us would be for you to fill us with the
- 5:52knowledge of your will through wisdom and all the understanding
- 5:57that the Spirit gives. Lord, let it be so today, in
- 6:01Jesus name, Amen. Thank you for listening to the
