- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Mark Simone Show, live from the
- 0:04Speaker 1: WOR LifeVac studios. Well, here's one of the country's leading
- 0:10Speaker 1: plastic surgeons, Dr. Arthur Perry. You can go to his website, perryplasticsurgery.com.
- 0:16Speaker 1: And he also does a show here on WOR, Saturday
- 0:19Speaker 1: nights at 6. Everybody's got questions and things they want
- 0:22Speaker 1: to know about plastic surgery. So let's talk to him now. Dr.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Arthur Perry, how are you doing?
- 0:27Speaker 2: Good. Mark, thanks so much for having me on the air,
- 0:31Speaker 2: but I noticed I'm not in studio today because you
- 0:35Speaker 2: didn't want those needles near you, right?
- 0:38Speaker 1: Him with the Botox. Listen, I know it's good for you.
- 0:42Speaker 1: It looks good, but I don't have the nerve. I
- 0:45Speaker 1: cry at a flu shot. I'm not getting Botox.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Mark, it's only a matter of time. Only a matter
- 0:50Speaker 2: of time until you give in and we're going to
- 0:52Speaker 2: do it. How have you been, Mark? Good.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Hey, tomorrow night on your show, do you have Dr.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Oz on with you tomorrow night?
- 0:58Speaker 2: I have, oh my goodness, I've been trying to get
- 1:00Speaker 2: him for six months. Dr. Mehmet Oz is going to
- 1:03Speaker 2: be my guest tomorrow, six o'clock mark. He is the
- 1:06Speaker 2: administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid now. He's,
- 1:10Speaker 2: I guess that puts him about number two in the
- 1:13Speaker 2: Department of HHS, and he is revolutionizing healthcare as we speak.
- 1:20Speaker 2: So he's coming on the show. He's going to be
- 1:21Speaker 2: live in the studio with me tomorrow. Isn't that great?
- 1:23Speaker 1: Very good. So did you guys work together at some
- 1:26Speaker 1: point or something? Well, we wrote a book together.
- 1:29Speaker 2: I was on his show 11 times, and he's been
- 1:34Speaker 2: on my show probably about the same. He is one
- 1:39Speaker 2: of the most talented people I've ever met, smartest guy.
- 1:42Speaker 2: A lot of people don't realize he actually invented a
- 1:45Speaker 2: heart valve, a mitral heart valve. He was a cardiac
- 1:49Speaker 2: surgeon for years. He has an MBA, an MD degree.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Of course, he has Emmy Awards. And besides that, he
- 1:56Speaker 2: was captain of the Harvard football team. Did you know that? No.
- 1:59Speaker 1: He's kind of a skinny guy, captain of the football team.
- 2:03Speaker 1: He's a great guy.
- 2:03Speaker 2: So I'm so happy to have him on the show tomorrow.
- 2:06Speaker 2: It'll be a wonderful show.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Very impressive.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Wow.
- 2:08Speaker 1: So, okay, that's tomorrow night at 6 here on WOR. Hey,
- 2:12Speaker 1: I always ask you this. Right now, what's the most
- 2:16Speaker 1: popular plastic surgery procedure?
- 2:18Speaker 2: Oh, this is facelift season. This is it, right? You
- 2:21Speaker 2: thought it was football season, Mark? Yeah. It's facelift season.
- 2:25Speaker 2: We're doing a lot of them. I did, you ready
- 2:27Speaker 2: for this one? I did an 84-year-old woman yesterday, Mark.
- 2:32Speaker 2: And she's more with it than you and me. No,
- 2:35Speaker 2: I'm not.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Okay, you.
- 2:38Speaker 2: And it's her third facelift, and she's vibrant and healthy.
- 2:43Speaker 2: And why not? She really wants to look good. But
- 2:46Speaker 2: it is facelift season right now. People wait. until after
- 2:49Speaker 2: summer to have their cosmetics removed because they don't want
- 2:52Speaker 2: to recover during the summer.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Well, why does she need the third one? Don't they
- 2:55Speaker 1: last for a while?
- 2:57Speaker 2: They last anywhere from seven to ten years, but when
- 3:01Speaker 2: you're 84, it's time for the third one.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Okay, when you get the facelift, you take this here
- 3:07Speaker 1: and you shove it up there, and then what happens?
- 3:10Speaker 1: For like two weeks, you can't go out?
- 3:13Speaker 2: Yeah, you have to hide for two weeks.
- 3:14Speaker 1: You really do.
- 3:15Speaker 2: So you feel okay. It's not a painful procedure. Honestly,
- 3:19Speaker 2: on a scale of one to 10, it's a one
- 3:21Speaker 2: to two.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Really? But you look terrible.
- 3:23Speaker 2: You look like you went five rounds with Mike Tyson
- 3:25Speaker 2: for about almost two weeks. So you hide, and then
- 3:29Speaker 2: you come out, and you look good. And it continues
- 3:34Speaker 2: to improve over the course of a couple months, looks
- 3:37Speaker 2: better and better, and then it's yours. And the younger
- 3:39Speaker 2: you are, Mark, by the way, when you have a facelift,
- 3:42Speaker 2: the longer it will last. So if you have one
- 3:44Speaker 2: when you're 50, let's say, it'll last maybe 12 years,
- 3:49Speaker 2: more than that. If you have one at 70, it'll
- 3:52Speaker 2: last like seven years or so, something like that.
- 3:54Speaker 1: So you've got to stay in for two weeks, but
- 3:55Speaker 1: you have to sit there and put ice on all
- 3:56Speaker 1: day for two weeks?
- 3:58Speaker 2: Well, no, we used to use ice. Too many frostbite injuries.
- 4:01Speaker 2: No ice necessary. You just kind of chill out. No
- 4:06Speaker 2: pun intended there. And, you know, no activity, no sports.
- 4:09Speaker 2: But you're in your house watching TV, reading, and just
- 4:14Speaker 2: letting nature take its course. It's a pretty easy recovery.
- 4:17Speaker 2: It really is.
- 4:18Speaker 1: So, in other words, you guys just sit at home
- 4:19Speaker 1: and watch TV all day. That's pretty good. I like that.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, and when the pizza delivery guy comes,
- 4:26Speaker 2: you tell him to just leave it there. You'll slide
- 4:28Speaker 2: the money under the door. Oh, okay.
- 4:30Speaker 1: You don't go to that. So what plastic surgery is
- 4:35Speaker 1: not so popular anymore, fading away?
- 4:37Speaker 2: You know, it's interesting. So every year, the National Society
- 4:41Speaker 2: that represents most of us plastic surgeons, they put out
- 4:44Speaker 2: their statistics, and they put them out last week. And
- 4:46Speaker 2: the usual procedures are the most popular liposuction, you know,
- 4:50Speaker 2: fat suction and breast augmentation. But it is interesting. I
- 4:54Speaker 2: always like to see, you know, what's losing popularity. And,
- 4:58Speaker 2: you know, those resilient butt lifts that we've talked about
- 5:01Speaker 2: in the past. Yeah, they are going away. And for
- 5:04Speaker 2: good reason, they're deadly procedures. There's hundreds and hundreds of
- 5:07Speaker 2: people have died from that procedure. So last year. Yeah,
- 5:11Speaker 2: they were down 5% last year, continuing the trend. The
- 5:14Speaker 2: last three years, they've been down, down, down. That's good.
- 5:18Speaker 2: But also, this one I can't figure out, Mark. Male
- 5:22Speaker 2: breast reduction. It's called gynecomastia. That's when men grow breasts.
- 5:28Speaker 2: It's actually increased in incidence because of all the marijuana use.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Marijuana smokers develop breasts. Really interesting. You're kidding. Yeah. But
- 5:40Speaker 2: for some reason, I don't understand this, the procedures declined
- 5:44Speaker 2: by 8% last year. They went down. Now, I'm going
- 5:47Speaker 2: to predict. I'm going to predict they're going to be
- 5:49Speaker 2: way up next year. You know, we have these year-to-year blips.
- 5:52Speaker 2: But with, you know, you only have to walk down,
- 5:55Speaker 2: you know, the Upper West Side to smell all the marijuana, right, Mark?
- 5:59Speaker 2: You know, it's there. So men are going to be
- 6:01Speaker 2: growing breasts. It's the number one drug that causes male
- 6:06Speaker 2: breast growth.
- 6:07Speaker 1: So what about if women go out and use it?
- 6:10Speaker 1: Will that increase their breasts?
- 6:12Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. So when they're, you know, they have to
- 6:16Speaker 2: have that warning now. No, they really should. They should
- 6:19Speaker 2: have it in the, you know, like smoker's warning. Yeah.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Marijuana warning. This will increase breast size.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Well, among women, you might have just sold a lot
- 6:28Speaker 1: of marijuana.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, I'm not sure it increases women's breast size,
- 6:34Speaker 2: but yeah.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Okay.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Well, you know, there's all sorts of information about marijuana,
- 6:39Speaker 2: but that's another show that's happened. So those are the
- 6:43Speaker 2: procedures that kind of declined. But liposuction, that's fat removal. Mark,
- 6:49Speaker 2: that is the number one procedure for good reason. In
- 6:52Speaker 2: about an hour, I can suction five, six, seven pounds
- 6:56Speaker 2: of fat. And despite all those GLP drugs like Ozempic
- 7:01Speaker 2: and Zepbound, you know, that fat that's still on your
- 7:04Speaker 2: hips after you've lost the weight, nothing, or in your neck. Yeah,
- 7:07Speaker 2: that's what I need, a little suction out of my neck. Yeah,
- 7:12Speaker 2: that stays even after weight loss, and that's where liposuction
- 7:15Speaker 2: comes in.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Hey, we're talking with Dr. Arthur Perry. You can go
- 7:17Speaker 1: to his website, perryplasticsurgery.com. You can listen to him on WOR,
- 7:22Speaker 1: Saturday nights, 6 o'clock. Hey, sometimes you see this bad
- 7:26Speaker 1: plastic surgery, these Boca Raton plastic surgeries. Some parts of
- 7:31Speaker 1: Long Island, you see some really bad plastic surgery. It's
- 7:33Speaker 1: Is that stuff fixable? Could somebody fix that? Oh, yeah.
- 7:37Speaker 2: I do a lot of revisionary surgery. Fortunately, not my
- 7:41Speaker 2: first cases. But this past week, I saw a woman
- 7:45Speaker 2: who had a breast augmentation 24 years ago, and she
- 7:48Speaker 2: lived with a terrible deformity. You know, her implants were
- 7:53Speaker 2: in one area of her chest, and her breasts kind
- 7:55Speaker 2: of drooped over them. And, yes, so it's more complicated
- 7:59Speaker 2: to fix these things. But I enjoy that kind of
- 8:01Speaker 2: surgery because... Here we remove the implants, put in new models,
- 8:05Speaker 2: you know, get the new models, Mark. There are some
- 8:08Speaker 2: technical advances in breast augmentation. And then do a breast
- 8:13Speaker 2: lift so we can make breasts look significantly better, even
- 8:16Speaker 2: if they've been not so nicely augmented with breast implants.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Very common, but surgery... you know, we call it secondary
- 8:27Speaker 2: surgery or redo surgery, always more difficult than the first one.
- 8:31Speaker 2: There's scar tissue to contend with and, you know, other
- 8:36Speaker 2: issues that make that surgery more difficult. But it's challenging
- 8:39Speaker 2: and it's really, it's very rewarding for me because people
- 8:44Speaker 2: are just stressed when they've had bad plastic surgery and
- 8:47Speaker 2: they come in and we fix it and they're so happy.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Those are the happiest patients.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Yeah. There are some people who get too much plastic surgery, right?
- 8:55Speaker 1: Just say to them, you've had enough. Stop for a while. Yes.
- 9:00Speaker 2: And plastic surgeons need to know when to say no.
- 9:03Speaker 2: And most good plastic surgeons will turn people down. if
- 9:06Speaker 2: they've had too much or they're not good psychological candidates.
- 9:09Speaker 2: But we all know there are plastic surgeons that are
- 9:11Speaker 2: willing to do anything, Mark, like take out ribs to
- 9:15Speaker 2: make waist smaller. Have you heard of that one?
- 9:18Speaker 1: No.
- 9:19Speaker 2: It's incredible. You know, I think one of the Kardashians
- 9:22Speaker 2: did that. And, you know, God gave us ribs for
- 9:25Speaker 2: a pretty good reason. They protect our heart. I They
- 9:28Speaker 2: protect our lungs. They protect our liver. And when you
- 9:31Speaker 2: take those out for cosmetic reasons, there's one word I say.
- 9:35Speaker 2: It's called stupid. It's just stupid. But people are doing it.
- 9:40Speaker 2: And plastic surgeons are willing to take people's money and
- 9:44Speaker 2: do the operation that they want, even if it's not
- 9:47Speaker 2: the best one, unfortunately. Most won't, but there are always some.
- 9:51Speaker 1: You want a great plastic surgeon, you go to Dr.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Arthur Perry. His website is perryplasticsurgery.com periplasticsurgery.com. And he has
- 10:00Speaker 1: his own show here on WOR, Saturday nights at 6,
- 10:04Speaker 1: Saturday night at 6. In fact, tomorrow night is the
- 10:06Speaker 1: show with Dr. Oz. You want to hear that. And Dr.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Arthur Perry, thanks for being with us.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Mark, thanks so much. And next time I'm bringing the Botox,
- 10:17Speaker 2: we're going to be in the studio.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Get ready. You get ready because I'm not getting any Botox.
- 10:23Speaker 1: He did it to Larry Mendte. It looked good.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Yeah, he looked great. Thank you so much, Mark.
- 10:29Speaker 1: It's been a pleasure. Take care. Hey, don't forget, coming
- 10:32Speaker 1: up at noon, it's Buck Sexton, Clay Travis. They do
- 10:35Speaker 1: a great show every day. We've got the biggest names
- 10:38Speaker 1: in talk radio here. Then at 3 o'clock, you've got
- 10:40Speaker 1: the most listened to radio show in America, Sean Hannity.
- 10:44Speaker 1: You've got Jesse Kelly at 6. You've got the very
- 10:46Speaker 1: funny Jimmy Fallon. 9 o'clock. I'm here every day, 9 a.m.
- 10:50Speaker 1: to noon. Three hours now, 9 to noon. Then, of course,
- 10:53Speaker 1: 6 to 9. Curtis Lewa and Larry Menti. It's all
- 10:56Speaker 1: on 710WOR.
