Transcript
- 0:00Hour number two, Miller and Condon is Trent and I have
- 0:02another hour to go before we make wafer off the bench.
- 0:05Sean Roberts, Lucas strain from 2:00 until 5:00.
- 0:09Trent's plays of the day still to come in about over 45 minutes
- 0:12or thereabouts. Circa Sports sponsor those.
- 0:15Let's talk some Hawk, shall we? David Eichel joins us,
- 0:17hawkeyeinsider.com, 24/7 sports. David, Trent and Ken, thanks for
- 0:22coming on. How are you?
- 0:24We're hanging in there, man. I can't wait for daytime
- 0:27basketball for conference tournament season.
- 0:29It's one of my favorite times of the year.
- 0:31But you know, life's good. We're we're good, man.
- 0:35This is, like I said, it's one of my favorite times of the
- 0:37year. And you know, it looks like both
- 0:39teams are going to be a part of it, but obviously 2 aren't very
- 0:42different trajectories at the moment.
- 0:44Yeah, that's for sure. Well, let's start ladies.
- 0:46Let's go ladies first. Friend and I were commenting
- 0:48early in the program. You know, they've had a nice
- 0:50year, but then the the rankings came out the top 16, one through
- 0:5516 and there sits I would number six that snuck up on me.
- 0:59David, I called. When you think back to the, you
- 1:02know, that kind of losing streak, the kind of losing
- 1:04streak, the losing streak that they had those tough times, but
- 1:07they've had some really good wins as of late.
- 1:09But I were right there at #6 and that snuck up on me.
- 1:14I mean, I think you did need to I thought they'd be a three
- 1:16seed, you know, maybe more in that 9 to 12 sort of area.
- 1:20But you know, you really can't argue with that.
- 1:23I think Iowa for the most part, outside that three-game losing
- 1:26skid, they've they've exceeded any expectation.
- 1:29I thought their ceiling was a little bit higher than maybe
- 1:31last year's team. But look, Ava Haydn has a
- 1:35legitimate case to be an all American with what she's done on
- 1:38both ends of the floor. You look at even the win
- 1:41yesterday. Obviously no Hannah sulky
- 1:43Wisconsin can't beat Iowa in anything Let me throw this stat
- 1:46at you guys. The freshman on Iowa women's
- 1:50basketball team have not been alive to witness Wisconsin women
- 1:54beat Iowa in basketball come. On nuts?
- 1:58That's crazy. Iowa has beaten them 32 times in
- 2:02a row. The last time they lost was in
- 2:042006. But you just look at 24 regular
- 2:07season wins, second seed in the Big 10 tournament, looks like
- 2:12they're almost locked to be a two seed.
- 2:15And by the way, everybody on that team besides a few people
- 2:18are young. I mean, the, the, the future is
- 2:21so bright for for Iowa and what Jan's done, quite frankly, she's
- 2:25not going to get Big 10 coach of the year.
- 2:27She's not going to get national coach of the year.
- 2:29She probably deserves to gain a little bit more love nationally
- 2:32for what she's accomplished. And doing it, losing a senior
- 2:35starter and McCabe going down, what they've dealt with
- 2:37throughout the course of this year.
- 2:38Emily Rodriguez was supposed to be a big part of this team.
- 2:41She shut it down after that trip down to Florida.
- 2:43And yet here they are with a potential number two seed in the
- 2:47NCAA Tournament, 2 seed in the Big 10.
- 2:49One player I want to talk with you a little bit, David, is
- 2:52Taylor Shremlow. And we've seen she's always had
- 2:54the flair, right? She likes to make that that fun
- 2:57pass behind the back. She's always had that going back
- 3:00to last year as a freshman. But it also a lot of times led
- 3:02to turnovers. And you go back to early in the
- 3:04season, you know, she had a stretch, 4 turnovers in the
- 3:06opener, had five turnovers in a game against Western Illinois, 3
- 3:10turnovers against Miami. That has cut down along with her
- 3:13assist. Is it just her getting more
- 3:15comfortable understanding her role or maybe not trying to do
- 3:18the crazy play every single time?
- 3:20I mean, maybe not trying to do the crazy play every single
- 3:22time, but you have to marvel at the the leap that she's made.
- 3:26And let me put in perspective for you.
- 3:27Over the last two games, she has 20 assists to two turnovers and
- 3:33she's played about 63 minutes of basketball.
- 3:36You take you sign up for every coach in the country signs up
- 3:39for that. I think what jams done with the
- 3:41guards is really interesting because it seems like they're
- 3:44playing chit chat right more off the ball than they were earlier
- 3:47the year. And you know, I think Taylor
- 3:49Stremlo is capable of playing that one.
- 3:51I think she's capable of playing the off guard.
- 3:53But I also just think it's a total confidence booster with
- 3:56Stremlo. Do you remember last year, like
- 3:58the last 10 games of the year, Stremlo would be completely left
- 4:02wide open and she would kind of sit there with the deer in the
- 4:05headlights, hesitate. Can I shoot it?
- 4:07Am I going to get pulled? And that's not an indictment on
- 4:10on Jan. But she just looks scared and
- 4:13indecisive. Guys, she's pulling up from the
- 4:16top of the key with a hand in her face and she's making it.
- 4:18She's driving to the rim. She's shooting 84% around the
- 4:22rim this season. She's not missing those shots.
- 4:25She's pulling up from the mid range game.
- 4:27She just looks like a complete basketball player and once she
- 4:31gets going, doesn't seem like the entire their teams just sort
- 4:34of raring to go. But I also would say this, the
- 4:38confidence her teammates and the coaching staff have had in her
- 4:41has long since been since she got into in the starting lineup.
- 4:44She's a team captain, she's voted team captain over the
- 4:47course of the summer. She's started, she's come off
- 4:50the bench and now she sells into this role and and now you're
- 4:53looking at her saying, you know what, that's a guard and a
- 4:56player that can go win you games when it matters most coming down
- 4:59the stretch. I want to ask you about Addie
- 5:01Deal because we've certainly seen her have a kind of really
- 5:03couple of good games there in that stretch.
- 5:05Late January, I believe it was, she had 20 points in one game.
- 5:09I think she had 220 point games or something right around there.
- 5:12So what's what's going on here? Is this a confidence thing for
- 5:15her? I'm I'm guessing she really
- 5:16didn't struggle, hasn't really struggled at any level in her
- 5:19life, quite frankly, until she got here and when and we've seen
- 5:23that she's been able to fill it up, but it's been a long time
- 5:25since she's been able to do that.
- 5:27What's going on with Addy deal? Is this a confidence thing,
- 5:29David? I think it could be a little bit
- 5:31of a confidence thing, but I also believe this.
- 5:34She plays better when she lets the game come to her.
- 5:38There's been a few times this year where I think she speeds it
- 5:40up. She kind of forces a bad shot
- 5:42and I do think it kind of translates over.
- 5:44But I do think over the last couple of games she strung
- 5:47together a couple good plays. I thought she passed the ball
- 5:50very well yesterday and with three assists, she hit that big
- 5:53three pointer when Iowa went on that massive run in the third
- 5:56quarter to ultimately put that game out of reach.
- 5:59I just think that obviously the the the 20 point game, the 18
- 6:02point game, they weren't flukes. Addie deal is going to be that
- 6:05good. I expect her to take a big leap
- 6:07next season. Not anywhere near what Ava did,
- 6:10but Addie is going to average double figures if she, you know,
- 6:13if she returns to Iowa, which I believe she will.
- 6:15But that's we have to kind of precursed that given the
- 6:19circumstances of college basketball.
- 6:21I think it's a little bit of that.
- 6:22I also think it's just understanding the physicality of
- 6:25the women's game. I do think a lot more people are
- 6:27face guarding her. They're kind of hand checking
- 6:29her a little bit. And I do think it's kind of
- 6:31working through the frustration, working through the ebbs and
- 6:34flows. And I think once she gets more
- 6:36steps from her and she kind of gets that swagger back maybe
- 6:39over the course of the summer, I think she's going to be fine.
- 6:42But I'm with you. I do think it's partially a
- 6:44confidence thing. One more youngster I want to get
- 6:46you your thoughts on and that's the future of Journey Houston,
- 6:49who has started two different times when Stalky's been out.
- 6:52What do you see her going forward?
- 6:54She's so good around the rim and elite level rebounder for being
- 6:57under size. She has guard skills.
- 7:00She's 5 foot 11. She's knocked down a couple of
- 7:02three pointers this year. When you kind of look into your
- 7:04crystal ball, you look to the future, say upperclassman
- 7:07Journey Houston, What do you see?
- 7:08What type of player is she? You know, I do think it was very
- 7:12smart of Jan and her to buy into that backup for role this season
- 7:16because Jan did say she kind of had to convince her because like
- 7:20you said, she's a little bit of undersized.
- 7:22I really like her at the three. I think she's shown that she is
- 7:25capable of hitting those outside shots.
- 7:27She's a gritty rebounder. Her physicality inside is very
- 7:30impressive. I think she's a good defender.
- 7:33But the most important compliment I could give her
- 7:36guys, she's just a smart player. She understands her role.
- 7:40She plays like a junior or senior.
- 7:42She doesn't seem to get rattled. She really pulls up and executes
- 7:45those mid range elbow jumpers. I just think they have a
- 7:49complete basketball player. Yes, she could do the high low
- 7:51action, maybe a little bit more of the high than the actual low.
- 7:54But journey, I think you could start anywhere at the two to
- 7:56four spot. And I do think the big question
- 7:59next season is, well, when you get McKenna Volitsko, you're
- 8:02you're going to have a hard time convincing me that she can't run
- 8:06at the starting four or the three next season.
- 8:08So I think journey and her are going to go back and forth.
- 8:11But I love journey being the sixth woman off the bench.
- 8:13I think she's that good. I think by the end of her
- 8:16career, she could be a, you know, an all big 10 caliber
- 8:18player. She's just too smart and too
- 8:21meticulous about the way she goes about things.
- 8:23See, that's been probably the second biggest surprise this
- 8:27season. I still think Chitchat Right is
- 8:29probably a little bit more of a head, but you have to give
- 8:31credit to Journey for really buying in and executing what
- 8:34Chance expected out of her. Let's move to the men's game.
- 8:36They fall to Penn State by a bucket on the road.
- 8:39They went in went into the game as a an overwhelming favorite in
- 8:43that game might might take away David.
- 8:45It was because we've been, you know, we've been waiting for
- 8:48Cooper Koch, right to, to put it together offensively to have one
- 8:51of those games. And you knew he could do it
- 8:53because you've seen him do it leading up to this point.
- 8:56Not only is he making his threes, but that underhanded
- 8:59left-handed lay up off the glass was just a thing of beauty.
- 9:02I thought we were going to reconvene here on Monday, be
- 9:04talking about the Cooper Koch game.
- 9:07Sadly, that wasn't the case as they fall to Penn State.
- 9:09He was really good, but the story was Penn State beating
- 9:12Iowa. I mean, Iowa is who they are at
- 9:16this point, right? I think we all kind of made-up
- 9:19our minds. I think they play up or down to
- 9:21the level of competition at times.
- 9:23And I think this group's really struggled against, you know,
- 9:26putting their foot on the throat of inferior teams.
- 9:28I mean, they lost at Minnesota. They shouldn't have lost that
- 9:31game. They lost to a horrible Maryland
- 9:33team. Then they go on the road and
- 9:34lose the worst team, the Big 10. There's just some woes.
- 9:37And Ben McCollum, again, I've complimented his transparency
- 9:40with the media and with the fan base.
- 9:42He said we are. We are.
- 9:43We struggle against teams that that they shouldn't be
- 9:45struggling against. Obviously, being Cooper Koch
- 9:49going this big, I thought Bennett was OK in that game, but
- 9:52ultimately I was being plagued by the same kind of offense,
- 9:56guards with an explosive first step and Iowa not having the
- 10:01quickness athletically to keep them on the perimeter.
- 10:04But Iowa doesn't have a true rim protector inside.
- 10:07They got into the paint time and time and time again.
- 10:10And with Penn State, what a couple of those three guys,
- 10:14weren't you just sitting there being like, oh, Iowa's not
- 10:17winning this game. This was going to be one of
- 10:19those games. And again, I think you have to
- 10:21get a credit to Penn State's quickness athletically.
- 10:24And ultimately, they made the shots and Iowa made, he thinks,
- 10:27a lot tougher than they were supposed to on themselves.
- 10:30Really did. Alvaro Fugaris had a great game
- 10:33against Ohio State and then he had what, back-to-back misses, A
- 10:38couple of turnovers in the game, missed a front end of a one and
- 10:40one, a terrible defensive decision.
- 10:43How do you get consistency out of a guy like that?
- 10:45It's not a skill thing that there's something going on
- 10:47upstairs. How can you coach into Alvaro
- 10:51Fugaris? How to smooth out those rough
- 10:53edges? I mean, I'm going to go back to
- 10:55when I asked Ben about him after his 20 point outing, he said
- 10:58he's just learning. He's finally learning how to
- 11:00win. He's being a winning player.
- 11:02He's eliminating those losing plays.
- 11:05He's doing the small things that he's really never had to do.
- 11:08He's thinking team first, he's executing, he's practicing
- 11:11harder, all these sort of things.
- 11:13And you know, I hate to be the Debbie Downer of this year.
- 11:16That's going to pay dividends the next season.
- 11:18I don't know if you're going to be able to get consistency out
- 11:20of them, but for the remainder of this season.
- 11:23But I'll go back to another guy who I thought was very good
- 11:26under frame McCaffrey and that one year to year one leap till
- 11:29year 2. How about Philip for Bracha?
- 11:32He ended up being a third team All Big 10 guy and I posted a
- 11:35lot of good things. I think Alvaro can take a
- 11:38similar leap next season if he comes back to Iowa with Ben
- 11:41McCollum because as you said, it's not a skill issue, it's not
- 11:45a talent issue. It's about learning how to win.
- 11:47And I still think right now he's learning how to win.
- 11:50And one other take away I want to mention really quick, not
- 11:53about Alvaro, but about the game.
- 11:55I thought it was one of the few, few times that will happen where
- 12:00Ben McCollum got out coach. I just don't think he put
- 12:03together a great second-half game plan, substitution wise or
- 12:06anything else like that. Again, I might not say this for
- 12:09the rest of the year. I might say not say all next
- 12:11season. I thought it was the first time
- 12:13Ben McCollum did not look like Ben McCollum.
- 12:16I think that's absolutely fair. I do.
- 12:18We talked about that earlier. Just tossing the fact that he
- 12:21hadn't played. Then boom, he's getting 15
- 12:23minutes. Howard's not getting, I don't
- 12:25think enough minutes. Take Sage likewise, but it was
- 12:30what it was. So when when you think back on
- 12:33this, what it what is Iowa do? How do they, I guess flush it
- 12:36and look forward to maybe one of the best, maybe the best team in
- 12:40the country in Michigan. What are you, what are you
- 12:43looking for this week out of this Iowa group as they try and
- 12:46regroup before Michigan comes to town?
- 12:49I mean, you have to flush it because if not, you're going to
- 12:52get absolutely trounced again. I know Michigan lost to Duke.
- 12:55Michigan has been my number one team all year long.
- 12:57I think they're beyond complete. Obviously losing their backup
- 13:00point guard, probably the best backup point guard in the
- 13:02country, is a big loss for them. But this is not a good match up
- 13:06for Iowa. And if you're Iowan, you can't
- 13:08get up this week for two top ten teams.
- 13:11Ben McCollum, be the first one to tell you you probably
- 13:14shouldn't be playing high level basketball.
- 13:16You have to flush it. You have to learn from it.
- 13:18And Iowa needs a gritty defensive effort to stop the
- 13:22size and skill combination of Michigan.
- 13:24Because regardless of the disappointing losses, guys, and
- 13:27I know people want to overreact, Iowa is going to the NCAA
- 13:30tournament. There's still a lot to play for.
- 13:32Like the bubble is garbage this season.
- 13:34They're arguing for a 15 and 14 Auburn team to be in.
- 13:38I was going to make the tournament.
- 13:40You just settle down, take a step off the ledge.
- 13:43And I still think, given everything Ben McCollum and his
- 13:46team, I still think it's been a successful Year 1 despite the
- 13:49lows being, I would say, pretty low.
- 13:53And we're still talking about, you know, we're get away from
- 13:55that 8-9 game. Well, maybe they done it.
- 13:57They have a thing. Yeah, now they'll go to A10 seat
- 13:59and maybe that'll give up a better chance of pulling that
- 14:01out set in the round of 32 or you never know, we've seen
- 14:05fifteens knock off. Can they fall to an 11 and play
- 14:07in the playing game or is that asking too much because.
- 14:10I like, well, you don't have to play the play again either.
- 14:12There's two. That's two spots.
- 14:14Can they fall that far? I mean, if they get embarrassed
- 14:16by Michigan, get embarrassed by Nebraska early out in the Big
- 14:2010. Or Oregon.
- 14:21Who would they play coming out third of the ninth seed?
- 14:24They play one of those two teams, the.
- 14:26Baby, I don't know much rather play a six then take him a
- 14:29chances against a three, right? But you just don't want to fall
- 14:32to Dayton. The only way I think it's
- 14:35possible is if remember if they play, if Iowa plays Oregon,
- 14:40Oregon still might be a quad 3 game at that time and I think
- 14:43they're getting Nate Biddleback. Yeah, Biddle's been back.
- 14:46I don't think. You want to play Oregon?
- 14:48With no, he's a health player. He's a hell of a player.
- 14:52One more from me, David and over to the football side of things.
- 14:56I know you guys always have recruiting news over at
- 14:58hawkeyeinsider.com. What to get your thoughts on?
- 15:01Is it now Root the the quarterback from over in
- 15:03Illinois? I know the other guys have him
- 15:06highly regarded. You guys a little bit lower as a
- 15:09whole at 24/7, but what can you tell us about the recruitment of
- 15:12the QB, who many consider one of the better ones in the class
- 15:15coming up? Let me put this way.
- 15:17He's going to rise on the next rankings update 24/7.
- 15:20This is the guy who was named the Alpha dog at the the recent
- 15:24seven on 7 camp. Yeah, 6 foot four, 205 pounds,
- 15:2741 touchdowns in 7A Illinois high school football to two
- 15:31interceptions. Pretty good.
- 15:35Versatile playmaker with some Iowa ties.
- 15:37I think a lot more offers are going to come his way.
- 15:39This is a guy that will not take his recruitment into the summer.
- 15:42From everything I've been told, he's going to look to make a
- 15:45decision by the end of April or May.
- 15:47He's already visited Iowa's wife and he's going to come back for
- 15:50a visit, I believe the second week of April of some sort.
- 15:54But his goal, he told 24/7 Sports this yesterday.
- 15:58He only wants to take one official visit, and that's the
- 16:01school that he commits to. And that's something, yeah, the
- 16:04other guys have who did, who did they have him ticketed to and
- 16:07then have done an about face and now I think I was the favorite.
- 16:10Now, do you know, do you know which way he was leaning or the
- 16:14speculation was he was leaning? I would say this Iowa, if I'm
- 16:18Iowa, I do not trade spots with anyone right now.
- 16:21How about that? How about that?
- 16:23That'd be a big. One thing, it's a gun deal.
- 16:24No, no, I was in a phenomenal spot.
- 16:28Well for a QB of that size and those stats 41 and 2.
- 16:32And the scouts like him. Yeah, good.
- 16:35David Eichel, we like having him on and we do it, if not weekly,
- 16:38certainly every other week. David, thanks for popping on.
- 16:41We appreciate it. 24/7 Sports, hawkeyeinsider.com, David Eichel
- 16:46joining us. David, thank you, man.
- 16:47Have a great rest of your week. We'll talk to you down the road.
- 16:49See you pal. I always appreciate you guys.
- 16:52Thanks. Thank you.
- 16:52David Eichel, as we check in on, I'm glad you brought that up.
- 16:55I saw that over the weekend. That was.
- 16:57Not. Right.
- 16:58I think that's it. Do you remember his dad at?
- 17:01All I remember the name. I've seen the name before.
- 17:03Yes, just one that slipped by the cracks there.
- 17:06But yeah, it continues. And David, with a little insight
- 17:09there, he's going to be rising up the boards over at 24/7 also
- 17:13#2 over at Rivals on Three. Yeah, there was this story that
- 17:17came out I think on Caikert's on Caikert's board this this past
- 17:21over the over the weekend. That would be good to say the
- 17:25least. All right, we'll take your time
- 17:26out, come back and we'll BS for a little while and a variety of
- 17:29topics. David Montgomery on the move.
- 17:31Yes, he's headed to Texas. Busy week as teams try to, you
- 17:35know, navigate the cap and find some space because the legal
- 17:40tampering period. Does it begin next Monday?
- 17:43I think it does. It's such a weird terminology
- 17:46too. Legal tampering, yes, Yeah, I'm
- 17:49pretty sure it does because free agency starts March the 11th and
- 17:52that's Wednesday, so. Should college athletics just
- 17:55change what they do to that too? Right.
- 17:56Just just call it what it is. Absolutely.
- 17:58Miller and Condon, it's 120. You're listening to the Iowa
- 18:01Sports Radio Network. I'm Miller Condon, 125, Iowa
- 18:06Sports Radio Network, Trent and I with you until just before
- 18:102:00 off the bench. At that time, Sean Roberts,
- 18:13Lucas Strain take you until 5 overtime, Iowa from 5:00 until
- 18:176:00. So March Madness coming up this
- 18:19weekend. Both of the Iowa teams play
- 18:21Thursday. Adam Eminecker will join us
- 18:22tomorrow. He'll be part of the broadcast
- 18:24team down there, but we'll talk to Eminecker before he heads
- 18:27down to Saint Louis. Your thoughts on this?
- 18:32Of the of the two, obviously you and I's got the better chance to
- 18:35advance. Oh, absolutely.
- 18:36But how far? Well, right side of the bracket
- 18:41for them. Absolutely.
- 18:42I agree. I think things fell well.
- 18:44You want to stay away from Belmont certainly as long as
- 18:46possible. They've separated themselves.
- 18:47And I do think that you and I matches up relatively well with
- 18:51the Bruins. But, well, if they're playing,
- 18:53you don't see the championship and you got Kevin Harlan on the
- 18:55call and you're there playing on Sunday.
- 18:57Is it noon or one you? I think.
- 19:00I think he's moved, yeah. And what Dick Enberg did that
- 19:04did that, he did. Yeah, when when it started on
- 19:06CBS, which was definitely a big deal to get that huge because
- 19:10back in the day, way back, the championship was on Monday.
- 19:13I remember that. I remember watching Greg
- 19:15McDermott. Yes, we were in Tampa for spring
- 19:18training. We found a bar to put it on.
- 19:20It was a hockey bar. They put the game on.
- 19:23I don't remember they won or lost, but this was probably
- 19:252006. They won that year, yes, that
- 19:29was the first time that he had got the team to that level.
- 19:32They advanced on and yes, they won in Arch Madness and then
- 19:36made a couple more tournaments after that.
- 19:38Dermot had some really good teams but the first team was
- 19:402004 was led by. Is he done, by the way,
- 19:44McDermott, have you heard that, that he's.
- 19:45Thinking that Rumbling's been out there for a.
- 19:47While, well, they've already got his replacement, Yeah, to
- 19:49Creighton. They've already the heir of
- 19:50parents. Been already.
- 19:51But the coaching tree goes a long ways.
- 19:53I mean, you look at the tentacles.
- 19:55I saw something, a graphic over the weekend that just the number
- 19:58of guys out there, they're like 18 guys that under him, yes,
- 20:02that approached under Greg McDermott that are now head
- 20:04coaches not only at the Division One level, but there's tons of
- 20:07shows, but all over the country. Good guy to learn from.
- 20:10Yeah, a good guy. I agree.
- 20:12I agree, I do too. I know it didn't go very well.
- 20:14Names, no, and Wesley Johnson wasn't tampered with.
- 20:18We'd be having a different conversation.
- 20:20But alas, here we are. The cycle fans, happy the way
- 20:23that it certainly turned out for them also.
- 20:25But in 2004, that was that first year they beat Southwest
- 20:28Missouri State in double overtime to punch their ticket
- 20:31to the Big Dance, where they lost by 5 as a 14 seed against
- 20:36the Georgia Tech, I believe. That might have, you know, as I
- 20:39think back, that might have been the year that I watched them on.
- 20:41Monday night? Yeah, that would have been that
- 20:44first one. I think it was so we must have
- 20:47been in Tampa covered Yankee spring training.
- 20:49Yankee spring training I. Think so because the Jock had
- 20:53the Yankees that year, so that would make sense.
- 20:56Jock was the first sports station in Central, OR in Iowa.
- 21:0021 and 10 that year for the Panthers.
- 21:02Ben Jacobson. No, not that.
- 21:04Ben Jacobson player Ben Jacobson The Sioux City Ben Jacobson Eric
- 21:08Crawford. Who you see sure.
- 21:09David Gruber, Brooks Mccowan Matt Schneiderman.
- 21:13Wow, that's a fun. Look down and you you were at
- 21:16the KNAP center yesterday. Yes, went to the knap center,
- 21:19not a full building by any means about his.
- 21:21How did the blue out go over? There was.
- 21:24Lots of blue. Lots of blue.
- 21:25That nearly as much purple really is in the past also now I
- 21:29haven't been the last couple of years when Drake has come back
- 21:32and and people jump back on the bandwagon for the Bulldogs.
- 21:35But yeah not nearly as much purple.
- 21:37But a lot of times you've gone and you and I is really good.
- 21:40Yeah, that I've been in the past and they're good this year.
- 21:43How good? Well, here's that Belmont is
- 21:45your. Boat to win the to win the
- 21:47Valley. To win Arch man.
- 21:48OK, All right, let's start at the top with Belmont plus 155.
- 21:51That's not a price I know that's going to get you, no.
- 21:53No, no, no. How about a long shot,
- 21:55Evansville? That would be a long shot. 500
- 21:58to 1. Are they really are the purple?
- 21:59Aces. So Drake's got to be, what, 200?
- 22:02They are the second longest. Choice at how much?
- 22:05200 to one. Are they really?
- 22:06They want to bet on the Doggies to win four in a row.
- 22:09Here's your opportunity. No one's ever done it, folks.
- 22:11One team has got there. Yep, that is it.
- 22:13Yep. Could they become the first?
- 22:15Well, it would start with a win against Southern Illinois, then
- 22:18beating Belmont, then either Murray State or UIC, and then
- 22:22the championship against What do?
- 22:23They say trenching friends to be the champ, you got to get
- 22:25through the best. And Belmont awaits on Friday.
- 22:27Chip in the chair, right? Yep, they got a chip in the
- 22:30chair and a 200 to 1 ticket. That game is earlier than it
- 22:33used to be the first, because now that there's and you, you
- 22:36clue me in on this. There's three games on Thursday.
- 22:39Used to be 6 and 8:30, now it's 3:36 and 8:30.
- 22:43Yes. So we'll have the Drake Southern
- 22:46Illinois game that is at 3:30 our time, 6:00 for the 710 game,
- 22:50Valpo, Indiana State and then you and I, Evansville will be
- 22:53the nightcap 830 for that one. And quarterfinals are the same,
- 22:57the same times. Right, right.
- 22:58I wonder if we're getting that's probably an ESPN plus.
- 23:03And it might be on like, well, FanDuel Midwest.
- 23:06That's what I'm wondering, yes, yeah.
- 23:07Or Marquee might pick. Yeah, Marquee's done that in the
- 23:09past too. It'll be on television I'm going
- 23:11to get. We'll find it somewhere if you
- 23:13don't have the plus. So, so Belmont's the favorite.
- 23:15So give me what's Murray State? Murray State you can get the
- 23:20erasers at 12:50. In fact, they are the 6th
- 23:23betting choice. The number two seed is Bradley.
- 23:28Bradley has the fourth longest odds though.
- 23:29I was shocked by that. Brian Wardle had a slow start.
- 23:34They're playing good basketball though, and you can get them as
- 23:37the number two seed at plus 750. Which big difference between
- 23:411:00 and 2:00, right? The favorite and then the second
- 23:43choice. Well, the second they're not the
- 23:44second choice. Who is Illinois State?
- 23:46It's not Illinois State, it's the you and I.
- 23:49Panthers are the second betting choice on DraftKings.
- 23:52Playing on Thursday? Absolutely.
- 23:54What's their odds? Plus 475?
- 23:57You've got to be kidding me. See, This is why I was dumbfound
- 24:01when Emma Necker last Tuesday said that there's a chance that
- 24:05you and I is playing on Thursday.
- 24:06This team should not be playing. No, they're better than that.
- 24:08Absolutely this team. So you saw them in person
- 24:11yesterday. What worries you about the
- 24:13Panthers going up against the Belmont?
- 24:17I, I nothing, I think they're good.
- 24:19I've watched a lot of their games.
- 24:20I've watched a lot more than them and I have Drake this year.
- 24:23I think they're a good team. The Illinois State, their last
- 24:26loss, they just couldn't get a stop.
- 24:29Illinois State was just, they were there defensively.
- 24:30We know you and I is one of the better defensive.
- 24:32They're 21st in the country, defensive efficiency.
- 24:35I understand why they're up there now.
- 24:37I thought I'd be able to get 7-8 to 1, something like that,
- 24:40because they have to have the extra game and we haven't seen
- 24:42it happen before. So I think you and I, they have
- 24:45the pieces absolutely to make a run.
- 24:48Trey Campbell, he could have got a job somewhere, he could have
- 24:50got paid. He stuck around for another
- 24:52year. Leon Bond, he could have gone
- 24:54somewhere and made money. He could have gone back to the
- 24:56ACC where he began his career and made some money.
- 24:59A lot of this group stayed around for this year.
- 25:02They had the downturn when Smith got hurt, OK, they turned it
- 25:05around. Really, it's those last two
- 25:06losses that are head scratching. I would put Bradley second,
- 25:09personally, if we're going to the con and casino in terms of
- 25:12the odds. But I understand why you and I
- 25:14certainly is up there, because this team absolutely can go on a
- 25:17run. So on Friday night I watched, at
- 25:22your suggestion, Miami and Western Michigan.
- 25:25I was wondering if you were as I was getting ready to I keep.
- 25:29Jet out for I never saw the incident at the end of the first
- 25:32half. I I did see it on Twitter
- 25:33afterwards and then I was locked for the rest of the game.
- 25:36Well, yeah, because it was a an hour difference.
- 25:38So I did see the end I I thought Miami got really lucky to win
- 25:42the game. I was pulling like hell for
- 25:43Western Michigan but but nonetheless.
- 25:46That coach blew a gasket, man. Yeah, Travis Steele.
- 25:49He blew he. Snapped.
- 25:50Yes, he did. Travis Steele, you might
- 25:52remember him from Xavier, who is one of the few coaches that
- 25:54haven't been very successful at Xavier.
- 25:56Hard to do. That's a good program that spins
- 25:59and invests in good place to recruit in Cincinnati.
- 26:01He was not very good there. This team that's happened a
- 26:04bunch to him though, they just they find a way.
- 26:07So are you in the Bruce Pearl line of thinking though, they
- 26:09shouldn't get in? They got to win their conference
- 26:10tournament. After what I saw on Friday
- 26:12night, I, I, I really can't argue.
- 26:16I get, I mean, if, if they go unbeaten, they go 33 and 1 and
- 26:19lose in the final of their tournament, it would be hard to
- 26:23keep them out. It would be, I don't want to say
- 26:25criminal, but it would be, it would be disappointing to keep
- 26:29them out. But Pearl, I mean, he took a
- 26:30stand on that. Would it be to Travis Steele's,
- 26:36I don't know better judgement to come out with those emails,
- 26:40those texts, those phone calls that he made to the power
- 26:43conference teams that he tried to get on the schedule?
- 26:46Wouldn't hurt. Because they brought back a lot
- 26:49of guys, a lot of people knew they were going to be good, a
- 26:51good major coming into the year. But I'm guessing there's a but
- 26:54there's a lot of. That's a part too.
- 26:56That's similar emails. I'm wondering if it's going to
- 26:59be looked at, it's grandstanding, or, well, now
- 27:02you're. I don't know if there's a good
- 27:04path for them, no. He finished the chop.
- 27:07I know this about him. He hates music stands, hates
- 27:10him, I. Think what's crazy?
- 27:12He. Decked that thing, Absolutely.
- 27:14I mean, you talk about blowing against.
- 27:16Well, and the and the the assistant coach, I thought he
- 27:19was going to try and fight him, his own assistant coach, because
- 27:22he was. He was not the whole feedback
- 27:24guy because he wanted to go right through him, Oh my God,
- 27:26and get to those officials. But Miami Ohio continues 29 and
- 27:30O on the season. Did you sign up for Iowa?
- 27:33Miami, Ohio 8-9 game right now. No, I'd like to see 1111.
- 27:38Stop with the 11. Stop putting them in Dayton.
- 27:40Why do you want them to have? I don't want well.
- 27:42Because it's good for business. Because I want.
- 27:44Anybody hates Dayton? No, I know, but I wanted to play
- 27:46and win. Well how about they just win
- 27:49against a six seed? No has to be there, but two do 2
- 27:54do. Right, two of them.
- 27:55Well, it depends how the bracket breaks.
- 27:57Sometimes it's a 12 seed. You definitely don't want that.
- 27:59No, they're not going to be a 12.
- 28:00No, but if you get an extra game out of them, I as long as they
- 28:05win, we've seen them go there as an extra game and lose.
- 28:07And then Scott, I'm Fran McCaffrey, losing his mind over
- 28:11our friend Scott Dockerman, who had the audacity to rightly call
- 28:15it a play in game. And France snap.
- 28:17By the way, Scott Dockerman will join Trent tonight, tomorrow at
- 28:201:00. He spent the best part of a week
- 28:22in Indianapolis at the combine. So we'll to pick Doc's brain on
- 28:26that and other topics. What is this is and this is one
- 28:31of the questions for Doc. But when it comes to Soresby,
- 28:33their quarterback or their former quarterback, did you see
- 28:37they're suing him? Yes.
- 28:38Yeah. They're going to win.
- 28:40Cincinnati's going to win. Yeah, They have a contract.
- 28:42They have a contract. So who's going to pay that?
- 28:45Texas Tech? I believe they're right.
- 28:47They will. Cody Campbell.
- 28:48Yeah, maybe Cody Campbell. Just scratch a check.
- 28:50Yeah, so it's no skin off Soresby's.
- 28:53You know what? Is it?
- 28:54No, he'll be fine. So what we're talking about is,
- 28:56of course, Soresby left Cincinnati after signing a multi
- 29:00year deal and broke the terms of that contract when, you know,
- 29:05better opportunity came along and he's off to Texas Tech and
- 29:09the folks at Cincinnati got all wound up and filed suit against
- 29:13their former starting quarterback and they're going to
- 29:15win. And we saw Darian Mensa do the
- 29:17same thing, leaving. Duke.
- 29:18But you know what did Mensa have to pay?
- 29:20I don't think he did. Yeah, they, they settled did
- 29:23they settled, They settled it and that's what it was.
- 29:25So yeah, same thing's going to happen here.
- 29:27I don't think there's going. To be No, no, he's going to play
- 29:29Texas Tech. The the quote here this from Max
- 29:32Olson of ESPN. Darian, Mensa and Duke agreed to
- 29:34a settlement of their dispute that cleared the way for him to.
- 29:37Any terms or any hint of what it?
- 29:39Was nothing that was listed. Figures, settlement or anything
- 29:43like that. It's all funny money.
- 29:45As well, sadly. Yeah, it's nothing that works in
- 29:48our waters, that is for sure. It is a different level.
- 29:51So Speaking of college football, two things while you were gone.
- 29:55I've always wanted to pick your brain.
- 29:56We just haven't had time. But we got time today to spread
- 29:58our wings a little bit more. I want to start with something
- 30:01that you have heard me grandstanding and yelling about
- 30:04now for the last six years of what the Big 10 did at the end
- 30:06of the season of 2020 thousand. Percent.
- 30:08Right. I have loved it.
- 30:10I thought it should have continued starting the next
- 30:11season and now the new fangled PAC 12 is going to be, or was
- 30:16it, the Mountain West is going to be doing that end of the
- 30:18season. You know that teams are going to
- 30:20get their home games. There's four teams.
- 30:22Four teams are going on the road, but you don't know who
- 30:25those opponents are going to be now.
- 30:27Not a whole lot of flexibility, possibility of rematches with
- 30:31only eight teams. There's not a whole lot of
- 30:32maturations that you can have. We're also talking about him in
- 30:35major the likelihood that this actually matters for the College
- 30:38Football Playoff. No slim and none, however.
- 30:41When you're talking about a 16 team Big 12, an 18 team Big 10,
- 30:47definitely, then you have a lot of different ways that you can
- 30:49make. This is a done deal.
- 30:51Yeah, it's happening this year. You look at their scheduled grid
- 30:54that is out, it is that final week home.
- 30:56It's DVD or Rd. TBD.
- 30:59I love it. I love the idea and it's
- 31:01something I think that should. When will they determine where
- 31:04they're going? Was there a?
- 31:05Sunday, like after the final. They'll play on Saturday, then
- 31:08Sunday. You find out who you're playing
- 31:10next Saturday. Yep, you know you're on the
- 31:12road. Yes.
- 31:13Or you're home. Yep, but you don't know who's
- 31:16coming to your place or where you're headed to.
- 31:18I think it is a tremendous idea, yes.
- 31:21I hope it works. I hope they get some buzz out of
- 31:23it. Now will they will they do kind
- 31:26of there's nothing that they could make a quote.
- 31:29I know how you feel about this ATV show out of it or or get
- 31:33some publicity around the event because it's a it's it's the
- 31:36Mountain West yes, but they've got their own network, don't
- 31:39they? Do they still were they forced
- 31:40to sell that? Did that go belly?
- 31:41Up the Mountain West thing I think.
- 31:43They still do Isn't doesn't CW does they carry a bunch of their
- 31:47they did. Maybe they don't anymore, so
- 31:49there's nothing you could do that way to.
- 31:51Get. Well, you could.
- 31:51I mean, you just put it online. Yeah.
- 31:53Just put up a video feed. You can do it that way.
- 31:56That's definitely the way that it goes that.
- 31:58Yeah, I think it's a tremendous idea.
- 32:00It's something that makes a whole lot of sense for everybody
- 32:02in college football to do this. We learned in 2020 we had.
- 32:06Was it BYU in Liberty BYU and somebody that.
- 32:09Yes, and it was a hell of a game.
- 32:11Coastal. Carolina.
- 32:12It was a hell of a game. Yes, and both of them and.
- 32:15Coastal Carolina got them right. I can't I.
- 32:17Think so. And it was a really tight fit.
- 32:19Oh, now I got to look. Both of those teams, though,
- 32:21were in contention to kind of move up the pecking order.
- 32:24They were having tremendous seasons and it was like Tuesday
- 32:28they came to agreement to play the game on Saturday.
- 32:30You can absolutely do this. It is OK.
- 32:34I would love to see that and all right, we know that the future
- 32:38college football is going to look a whole lot different.
- 32:40The way that this is all going to be structured is going to be
- 32:43different. I think this is another
- 32:44tremendous idea that somebody and a lot of times that's how it
- 32:48has to start, right? Smaller conference comes up with
- 32:50the idea and it morphs into what it is today.
- 32:54The other college football story that happened I thought was
- 32:56pretty important while you were gone was North Dakota State
- 33:00departing for the new Mountain West.
- 33:02They are going to have to catch up in terms of scholarships, not
- 33:05as many scholarships, but we know in this state, both sides
- 33:09of the state, what North Dakota State can do Kansas State knows
- 33:13the same. This is an incredibly good
- 33:15program. They're going to be I believe
- 33:18one of the favorites. You're in the year out in that
- 33:20newfangled Mountain West who not real tough anymore compared to
- 33:24what it was after. You lose Boise and you lose
- 33:26Colorado State and San Diego State, Fresno as they depart for
- 33:30the new PAC 12. It is a winnable league and you
- 33:34want to do it now because as all these deck chairs are shuffling
- 33:37and we're figuring out what it's going to look like, I think the
- 33:40Bison made the right move. Are they going to win a national
- 33:42championship? No.
- 33:44However, we just saw James Madison in the College Football
- 33:46Playoff. They're power.
- 33:48Trend within five years, North Dakota State in the College
- 33:51Football Playoff. I don't think it's a stretch.
- 33:54One of their players, well, look at the the starting guard for
- 33:58North Dakota State last year. He's with the Seahawks.
- 34:01He's a first round pick. I can't think of his name.
- 34:05God, age gets you. They got some dudes every year.
- 34:09Trey Lance's kid brother was one of the stars of this weekend.
- 34:12An Indianapolis 63 wide receiver.
- 34:14Run like the wind. What the Hell's that kid's name?
- 34:16He's got a really cool name. Like I, I, I don't even know,
- 34:19you know, I can't find. You're the draft guy.
- 34:21Yeah, I can't find the BYU Coastal Carolina game.
- 34:26Well, let's see Coastal Carolina football in 2020.
- 34:29Let's bring up their schedule. 2020 Coastal Carolina, because
- 34:32it was Jamie Chadwell in Coastal Carolina.
- 34:34They play. It was BYU.
- 34:35There you go, it was BYU. It happened on December 5th at
- 34:402217. Coastal Carolina got the
- 34:43victory. In that one I remember watching,
- 34:45it was a hell of a football game.
- 34:47We didn't have a whole lot else to do.
- 34:48No, we didn't. We'll take a time out, we'll
- 34:50come back, we'll finish up the program.
- 34:52Trent's plays of the day. Iowa State has that number
- 34:54number moved. It was 7 1/2 when we went on the
- 34:57air. It remains.
- 34:59It's 7 1/2 everywhere, 7 1/2 everywhere.
- 35:03Arizona is a 7 1/2 point favorite over the clones
- 35:05tonight. There's one other decent game
- 35:07Duke plays NC State. NC State on the road in Raleigh,
- 35:149 1/2. The number for that one.
- 35:16Does it matter they're. Just watching them a lot against
- 35:19Virginia Saturday. They're just, they really are.
- 35:23Are are we headed for Duke Michigan Part 2?
- 35:27I would take. That I would too.
- 35:28We've had some clunkers on Monday nights.
- 35:31Yep. For the championship, I want to
- 35:32see Duke beat Florida in the semifinal.
- 35:34That's what you want? Yeah.
- 35:36Sight unseen. You give me that right now on a
- 35:38platter. I think that's probably Arizona
- 35:41is going to have a say. Plenty of teams.
- 35:44There's going to be a close call on a Sweet 16.
- 35:46There's it's not going to be easy.
- 35:47It rarely is unless you're Yukon a couple years ago and the path
- 35:51that they went through. Do you feel like I do that after
- 35:54watching Illinois on Friday night?
- 35:56My hopes were kind of dashed that, you know, any hopes for
- 35:59cashing that 80 to 1 ticket? Probably not going to happen.
- 36:02I'd never had hopes for you in that ticket and I think I told
- 36:05you very different times. Again, it's about winning a
- 36:08national championship and with that defense it's not going to
- 36:11happen for them. I love.
- 36:14I know you have sold me. October is the best month for
- 36:17sports. Completely agree.
- 36:19You got me. We don't get football this month
- 36:21right? This is my favorite time of year
- 36:23though. You know, it's a blast.
- 36:24I I love the month too. I do.
- 36:26You starting tonight with the Horizon League that's get
- 36:28started with their conference tournament this evening and over
- 36:31the next 14 days we're going to have over 340 teams that have a
- 36:36chance to punch their ticket to get to the dance.
- 36:39Watching these small conference tournaments, how much it matters
- 36:42to these guys. You can talk about NIL, you can
- 36:44talk about all those different things, but start watching.
- 36:46Start watching. Well, for a lot of these guys,
- 36:48it's an audition for next. Year, no doubt about it, this is
- 36:51an opportunity for so many people across the country to get
- 36:54there. And for us in this state, it's
- 36:56Iowa State taking that next chance and it's making that next
- 36:59step, right? And getting past the Sweet 16
- 37:00for Iowa's getting to a Sweet 16 for you and I and just getting
- 37:03back to the tournament after the drought that they've had.
- 37:06Everybody, though, has a chance and you will see it starting
- 37:09with the Horizon League all the way through until we get to the
- 37:11championship game of the Big 10 tournament.
- 37:13This time, in the grand scheme of things, does it matter?
- 37:16We'll get into the bracket? Yeah, it does matter.
- 37:18We know that. Does seating matter by the time
- 37:20we get to next weekend? Not really.
- 37:22I think what we see is actually overrated.
- 37:24We've learned that throughout the years.
- 37:26But what it does at the mid major and the low major level,
- 37:29this for me is what makes college basketball so special.
- 37:32I can't wait. And I got my ESPN app ready to
- 37:34go because a lot of these games are ESPN Plus.
- 37:37As Michael said, basketball during the day.
- 37:39I mean you got to love it right during the weekday and you and I
- 37:43is the 2nd. Choice in Saint Louis isn't
- 37:44that. That truly is that tells me
- 37:46there's a really good chance that maybe they could.
- 37:49Wouldn't that be something 145? Miller and Condon, glad you're
- 37:52with us. Our final segment, trends, plays
- 37:54of the day. That's next.
- 37:55It's the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 37:58Hi, Miller and Condon. Our final segment, Circus sports
- 38:03at Las Vegas in the app here in the state of Iowa, over in
- 38:07Illinois, down in Missouri, Circus sports, wherever you're
- 38:11listening. Circus sports might be in a
- 38:14state where you reside, Kentucky also out there, Colorado
- 38:17likewise. All right, Arizona and Iowa
- 38:20State tonight. What do you expect to see?
- 38:22Do you expect to see a spirited rebound by Iowa State where
- 38:26they've lost before? They've come back and they've
- 38:28played very well. But this is Arizona in Tucson.
- 38:32The match up is scary. The match up is they're so big.
- 38:36They just got one guy after another.
- 38:39But yeah, to your point about them bouncing back, I I think we
- 38:42will see that. The only time it didn't happen
- 38:44was after the Kansas loss against Cincinnati when they
- 38:46went on the road and lost that one back-to-back.
- 38:48But they have responded. TCU come back in throttle,
- 38:50Kansas, BYU come back dispatch Utah pretty easily.
- 38:55I think they're going to play better and.
- 38:56Has BYU won a game since then? I don't think they have.
- 38:58They got embarrassed again. This.
- 38:59Weekend they lost in West Virginia and they got beat by
- 39:02UCF in the middle of the week when they got blown out there.
- 39:04Talk about another team go in the wrong direction.
- 39:06We talk about Iowa. It's not in a vacuum.
- 39:09It's not just about your Hawkeye.
- 39:10Hawkeye fans. So what's happened around you?
- 39:12And that's why they're still in good shape at BYU.
- 39:14Still 8-9 game with BYU there. Youth, you're number one seed
- 39:19and you got to face off against Debansa.
- 39:20Yeah, it might be the number one pick in the draft when it comes
- 39:23to Arizona. Obviously the guards, Buris and
- 39:25Bradley, that freshman Karchenkov, I think is how he's
- 39:29such a smart player. They got a big kid in the
- 39:31middle, 7 foot 2. Of course, the other fresh,
- 39:33there's three freshmen, right? Karchenkov, Pete and Buries are
- 39:37all freshmen. And they're getting Aristotle
- 39:38back, who played the last time just a couple of minutes towards
- 39:40the end of it. So he's back, another freshman
- 39:42and my favorite player on the team.
- 39:44He's not the best player by any. Del orso.
- 39:47You know me well, don't you? You know me well.
- 39:49I absolutely love that dude. He can knock down some 3
- 39:52pointers. He seems to have his nose in the
- 39:54middle of everything. He is on the floor all the time.
- 39:56He got banged up in a game recently.
- 39:58Remember what it was where he went down?
- 40:00He turned his ankle. That's what it was maybe a
- 40:02couple weeks ago. But he's one of those guys I
- 40:05just always really like. I don't think it's a great
- 40:07matchup, but I believe it not I believe in.
- 40:12The organizational control that he has, the things that it's not
- 40:15going to completely fall apart, that they're going to play well.
- 40:17Is it good enough to beat them? I don't think so.
- 40:20All right. Let's open the Condon casino,
- 40:22OK, And we're going to, we can't bet on props here, the player
- 40:26props in the state of Iowa. But if you could, where would
- 40:31you put the points for Toure at? 4 1/2 that's going to just.
- 40:36Say the same thing 4 1/2. Well, they are available in
- 40:39other states, right? Do you want to see if I can find
- 40:41them? If you can.
- 40:42I think I can. I don't know if they'll have him
- 40:44listed though. They do not they.
- 40:48Who do they have? Jefferson.
- 40:49I got. Jefferson 16 1/2.
- 40:51All right, Manchelevich. Also 16 1/2.
- 40:53Lipsy, 11 1/2. OK.
- 40:55Then go to, then drop down to Arizona buries.
- 40:59He has to be the. He has to be the the most points
- 41:02listed. Right 16 OK then.
- 41:04Bradley 14 1/2. Peak 12. 11 1/2 OK,
- 41:09Kretschegoff, he is 10 1/2. There's Deroso 7 1/2, Del Rosso
- 41:15and Buchanan 6 1/2 at the bottom of the list, but.
- 41:19They're outside. It's 7 1/2 points.
- 41:24It's a lot of points for. Now is this an official pick or
- 41:28an? Opinion.
- 41:28This is an opinion. This is not an official pick.
- 41:31I'll log it if I do I, I think I'd grab the point.
- 41:34I think I would too. You're with me, OK?
- 41:36I would too. A family place.
- 41:38So if we get it wrong, I'm going I'm going to officially put it
- 41:40in and blame you if it goes wrong.
- 41:42How's that going? Does that work?
- 41:43Sure. Yeah, you know I don't bet
- 41:45games, but why not? I do not have a play in the
- 41:47Duke, North Carolina game and I haven't gotten anywhere yet.
- 41:51So as I mentioned earlier, the Horizon League starts tonight.
- 41:55I love it. I love conference tournaments.
- 41:57It doesn't matter what maturation it is.
- 41:59I absolutely love these things each and every time.
- 42:02However, the Horizon League, you got 2 awful teams going at it.
- 42:07Cleveland State tonight, they're hosting, they're 10 and 21
- 42:11against Ooey Pooey. Now, just Indiana University at
- 42:15Indianapolis, who is 7 and 24, That is the lid lifter tonight
- 42:20in college basketball for the conference tournaments.
- 42:23I don't know if I'm going to get a play.
- 42:25IU Indy has lost, what is it, six in a row.
- 42:28Cleveland State has lost seven in a row.
- 42:31Something's got to give tonight. They'll be point scored.
- 42:34I do know that. You do not have an official play
- 42:37as of this time. Iowa State, you're in.
- 42:40I'm going to do it. We're going to put one in there.
- 42:42There's a few other low major game, major games that are
- 42:44happening. Haven't jumped at anything yet.
- 42:46I'll probably take a peek at some NBA later this evening, but
- 42:49we're just going to make a one. I'm going to take the Cyclones
- 42:51as my solo play here tonight. Can we get a one?
- 42:54And no, we get one just to get things started.
- 42:57Start the week off Wow. What did that feel?
- 42:59Great. Indeed.
- 43:01All right. Tomorrow, Adam Emmenecker will
- 43:02join us. Doko Pizza sponsors that.
- 43:05We'll preview the Valley tournament with Emmenecker,
- 43:07Scott Dockerman back from Indianapolis.
- 43:09We spend a week, we'll talk to Doc about that and other college
- 43:12football topics. And then another thing we're
- 43:15working on for the women's tournament with a Big 12
- 43:19tournament, too, I will hopefully be able to line up
- 43:21Tommy Birch, if you're listening, that's going to do it
- 43:24for us. Miller and Condon with you every
- 43:26Monday through Friday from noon until 2, talking sports with you
- 43:30on the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
