- 0:04Speaker 1: to July twenty fourth, twenty twenty five, better known by
- 0:07Speaker 1: his ring name Hulk Hogan, was an American professional wrestler
- 0:10Speaker 1: and media personality. He wrestled in the World Wrestling Federation
- 0:13Speaker 1: WWF now WWE, World Championship Wrestling WCW, Total NonStop Action
- 0:18Speaker 1: Wrestling TNA, New Japan Pro Wrestling NJPW, and the American
- 0:22Speaker 1: Wrestling Association a d WAY. Known for his showmanship, large physique,
- 0:26Speaker 1: and his trademark blonde horseshoe, mustache and bandanas, Hogan was
- 0:29Speaker 1: widely regarded as one of the greatest and globally most
- 0:31Speaker 1: recognized wrestling stars of all time. He won multiple world
- 0:35Speaker 1: championships across companies, most notably being a six time WWF champion.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Hogan began his wrestling career in nineteen seventy seven and
- 0:41Speaker 1: achieved global stardom after joining the World Wrestling Federation in
- 0:44Speaker 1: nineteen eighty three. His persona as a heroic all American
- 0:47Speaker 1: helped usher in the nineteen eighties professional wrestling boom, during
- 0:50Speaker 1: which he headlined eight of the first nine editions of
- 0:54Speaker 1: the WWF's flagship annual event, WrestleMania, and also regularly headlined
- 0:58Speaker 1: Saturday Night's main event. His first runs Sane as WWF
- 1:00Speaker 1: champion lasted one thousand, four hundred and seventy four days,
- 1:04Speaker 1: the third longest in the belt's history, and he was
- 1:06Speaker 1: the first wrestler to win back to back Royal Rumbles
- 1:08Speaker 1: in nineteen ninety in nineteen ninety one. In nineteen ninety four,
- 1:11Speaker 1: Hogan joined WCW, winning the WCW World Heavyweight Championship six times.
- 1:16Speaker 1: His reinvention as the villainous Hollywood Hogan and leadership of
- 1:19Speaker 1: the New World Order nWo stable revitalized his career and
- 1:22Speaker 1: played a major role in the success of the Monday
- 1:23Speaker 1: Night War wrestling boom of the late nineteen nineties. He
- 1:26Speaker 1: headlined WCW's annual flagship events Arcade three times. Hogan returned
- 1:31Speaker 1: to the WWF in two thousand and two after its
- 1:33Speaker 1: acquisition of WCW, winning the undisputed WWF Championship for his
- 1:38Speaker 1: then record equalling sixth reign before departing in two thousand
- 1:41Speaker 1: and three. He was inducted into the WWEE Hall of
- 1:43Speaker 1: Fame in two thousand and five and inducted a second
- 1:46Speaker 1: time in twenty twenty as a member of the reformed
- 1:48Speaker 1: n WO. Outside of wrestling, Hogan starred in films such
- 1:51Speaker 1: as Rocky Three, No Holds Barred, and Suburban Commando, and
- 1:54Speaker 1: in television shows including Hogan Knows Best and Thunder in Paradise.
- 1:58Speaker 1: He also fronted the Wrestling Boot Band, whose sole record,
- 2:01Speaker 1: Hulk Rules, reached number twelve on the Billboard Talk Kit
- 2:03Speaker 1: Audio chart in nineteen ninety five. Several controversies damaged Hogan's
- 2:07Speaker 1: public image. In nineteen ninety four, he admitted to using
- 2:10Speaker 1: anabolic steroids since nineteen seventy six, a helping stop a
- 2:13Speaker 1: wrestler's unionization effort. In twenty twelve, the media company Gawker
- 2:17Speaker 1: published portions of a sex tape in which Hogan was
- 2:20Speaker 1: heard using racial slurs. Hogan sued Gawker, which was found
- 2:23Speaker 1: liable and subsequently declared bankruptcy. Despite this legal victory, Hogan's
- 2:27Speaker 1: reputation has been described as permanently tarnished, a view reflected
- 2:30Speaker 1: in the mixed public reaction to his death in July
- 2:33Speaker 1: twenty twenty five. Early life, Hogan was born in Augusta, Georgia,
- 2:37Speaker 1: on August eleventh, nineteen fifty three, the son of construction
- 2:40Speaker 1: form in Pietro Peter Bolea and home maker and dance
- 2:42Speaker 1: teacher Ernice Ruth. Hogan was of Italian, Panamanian, Scottish and
- 2:45Speaker 1: French descent. His paternal grandfather, also named Pietro, was born
- 2:49Speaker 1: in eighteen eighty six in Sigliano, Province of Vercelli in Piedmont.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Hogan had an older brother named Alan, who died at
- 2:55Speaker 1: the age of thirty eight from a drug overdose when
- 2:57Speaker 1: he was one and a half years old. His family
- 2:59Speaker 1: moved to Port Tampa, Florida. As a boy, he was
- 3:02Speaker 1: a pitcher in Little League baseball. Hogan attended Robinson High School.
- 3:05Speaker 1: He began watching professional wrestling at sixteen years old. While
- 3:09Speaker 1: in high school, he revered Dusty Rhodes, and he regularly
- 3:12Speaker 1: attended cards at the Tampas Sporratorium. It was at one
- 3:14Speaker 1: of those wrestling cards where he first noticed superstar Billy
- 3:17Speaker 1: Graham and began looking to him for inspiration. Since he
- 3:19Speaker 1: first saw Graham on TV, Hogan wanted to match his
- 3:22Speaker 1: inhuman look. Hogan was also a musician, spending a decade
- 3:25Speaker 1: playing fretless bass guitar in several Florida based rock bands.
- 3:28Speaker 1: He went on to study at Hillsborough Community College and
- 3:31Speaker 1: the University of South Florida. After music gigs began to
- 3:34Speaker 1: get in the way of his time in college, he
- 3:36Speaker 1: dropped out of the University of South Florida. Eventually, Hogan
- 3:39Speaker 1: and two local musicians formed a band called Ruckus in
- 3:42Speaker 1: nineteen seventy six. The band soon became popular in the
- 3:44Speaker 1: Tampa Bay region. During his spare time, Hogan worked out
- 3:47Speaker 1: at Hector's Gym in the Tampa Bay area, where he
- 3:49Speaker 1: began lifting. Many of the wrestlers who were competing in
- 3:52Speaker 1: the Florida region visited the bars where Ruckus was performing.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Among those attending his performances were Jack and Gerald Briscoe.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Impressed by Hogan's physical stature, the brisco brothers asked Hiro Matsuda,
- 4:02Speaker 1: the man of trained wrestlers working for Championship Wrestling from
- 4:04Speaker 1: Florida c w F, to make him a potential trainee.
- 4:07Speaker 1: In nineteen seventy six, the two brothers asked Hogan to
- 4:09Speaker 1: try wrestling. Hogan eventually agreed. At first, Mike Graham, the
- 4:13Speaker 1: son of c w F promoter Eddie Graham, refused to
- 4:15Speaker 1: put Hogan in the ring. According to Hogan. He met
- 4:17Speaker 1: Graham while in high school and the two did not
- 4:19Speaker 1: get along. After Hogan quit Rucus and started telling people
- 4:22Speaker 1: in town that he was going to be a wrestler,
- 4:24Speaker 1: Graham finally agreed to accept the brisco brother's request. During
- 4:27Speaker 1: the first session in training, Matsuda broke Hogan's leg. After
- 4:30Speaker 1: ten weeks of rehab, Hogan returned to train with Matsudah
- 4:32Speaker 1: and blocked him when he tried to break his leg again.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Professional wrestling career early years nineteen seventy seven to nineteen
- 4:38Speaker 1: seventy nine. In mid to nineteen seventy seven, after training
- 4:41Speaker 1: for more than a year with Matsudah, the brisco Brothers
- 4:44Speaker 1: dropped by Matsuda's gym to see Hogan. During this visit,
- 4:47Speaker 1: Jack Briscoe handed Hogan a pair of wrestling boots and
- 4:50Speaker 1: informed him that he was scheduled to wrestle his first
- 4:52Speaker 1: match the following week. In his professional wrestling debut, Eddie
- 4:55Speaker 1: Graham booked him against Brian Blair in Fort Myers, Florida,
- 4:58Speaker 1: on August tenth, nineteen seventy seven, in the c WF.
- 5:01Speaker 1: A short time later, Hogan don damask and assumed the
- 5:03Speaker 1: persona of the Super Destroyer, a hooded character first played
- 5:06Speaker 1: by Don Jardine and subsequently used by other wrestlers. Hogan
- 5:10Speaker 1: eventually could no longer work with Matsuda, whom he felt
- 5:12Speaker 1: was an overbearing trainer, and left CWF after declining an
- 5:17Speaker 1: offer to wrestle for the Kansas City Circuit. Hogan took
- 5:19Speaker 1: a hiatus from wrestling and managed the Anchor Club, a
- 5:22Speaker 1: private club in Coco Beach, Florida, for a man named
- 5:25Speaker 1: Whitey Bridges. Eventually, Whitey and Hogan became close friends and
- 5:29Speaker 1: opened a gym together. The gym became known as Whitey
- 5:31Speaker 1: and Terry's Olympic Gym. Soon after, Hogan's friend at Leslie,
- 5:34Speaker 1: later known as Brutus Beefcake, came to Coco Beach to
- 5:37Speaker 1: help Hogan and Bridges manage both the Anchor Club and
- 5:39Speaker 1: Whitey and Terry's Olympic Gym in his spare time. Both
- 5:42Speaker 1: he and Leslie worked out in the gym together, and
- 5:44Speaker 1: eventually Beefcake developed a muscular physique. Hogan was impressed by
- 5:48Speaker 1: Beefcake's physical stature and became convinced that the two of
- 5:51Speaker 1: them should wrestle together as tag team partners. Depressed and
- 5:54Speaker 1: yearning to return to wrestling, Hogan called superstar Billy Graham
- 5:57Speaker 1: in nineteen seventy eight with hopes that Graham could find
- 5:59Speaker 1: out a job wrestling outside of Florida. Graham agreed, and
- 6:02Speaker 1: Hogan soon joined Louis Tillot's Alabama territory. Hogan also convinced Leslie,
- 6:07Speaker 1: who had yet to become a wrestler, to come with
- 6:09Speaker 1: him and promise to teach him everything he knew about
- 6:11Speaker 1: the sport. In Alabama, Hogan and Leslie wrestled as Terry
- 6:14Speaker 1: and Ed Boulder, known as the Boulder Brothers. These early
- 6:17Speaker 1: matches prompted a rumor among wrestling fans, who were not
- 6:19Speaker 1: aware of the inner workings of the wrestling business that
- 6:22Speaker 1: the two really were brothers, as few people actually knew
- 6:24Speaker 1: their real names outside of immediate friends, family, and the
- 6:27Speaker 1: various promoters the two worked for. After wrestling a show
- 6:30Speaker 1: for Continental Wrestling Association c WA in Memphis, Jerry Jarrett,
- 6:34Speaker 1: the promoter for the c w A, approached Hogan and
- 6:36Speaker 1: Leslie and offered them a job in his promotion for
- 6:38Speaker 1: eight hundred dollars a week. This was far more than
- 6:40Speaker 1: one hundred and seventy five dollars a week they would
- 6:42Speaker 1: make working for Tillott. Hogan and Leslie accepted this offer
- 6:45Speaker 1: and left Tillot's territory. During his time in Memphis, Hogan
- 6:48Speaker 1: appeared on a local talk show where he sat beside
- 6:51Speaker 1: Lou f Riigno, star of the television series The Incredible Hulk.
- 6:54Speaker 1: The host commented on how Hogan, who stood six foot
- 6:57Speaker 1: seven inches and weighed two hundred and ninety five pounds
- 6:59Speaker 1: with twenty four inch biceps, actually dwarfed the Hulk. Watching
- 7:03Speaker 1: the show backstage, Mary Jarrett noticed that Hogan was actually
- 7:05Speaker 1: bigger than Ferigno, who was well known at the time
- 7:08Speaker 1: for having large muscles. As a result, Hogan began performing
- 7:11Speaker 1: as Terry the Hulk Bowlder and sometimes wrestled as Sterling Golden.
- 7:15Speaker 1: On December first, nineteen seventy nine, Hogan won his first
- 7:18Speaker 1: professional wrestling championship, the NWA Southeastern Heavyweight Championship Northern Division,
- 7:23Speaker 1: recognized in Alabama and Tennessee, when he defeated Bob Roup
- 7:26Speaker 1: in Knoxville, Tennessee. He dropped it in January nineteen eighty
- 7:29Speaker 1: to Bob Armstrong. He briefly wrestled in the Georgia Championship
- 7:32Speaker 1: Wrestling GCW territory from September through December nineteen seventy nine,
- 7:36Speaker 1: as Sterling Golden World Wrestling Federation nineteen seventy nine to
- 7:40Speaker 1: nineteen eighty one. In the fall of nineteen seventy nine,
- 7:42Speaker 1: former NWA World Heavyweight Champion Terry Funk introduced Boleia to
- 7:46Speaker 1: WWF owner promoter Vincent J. Mc mahon, who was impressed
- 7:49Speaker 1: with his charisma and physical stature. M c mayhan, who
- 7:52Speaker 1: wanted to use an Irish name, gave him the last
- 7:54Speaker 1: name Hogan, and also wanted him to dye his hair red.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Bullia claims his hair was already beginning to fall out
- 7:59Speaker 1: by that time, and he refused to die it, simply
- 8:01Speaker 1: replying i'llbe a blonde Irish Blea wrestled his first match
- 8:05Speaker 1: in the w w F under the ring name Hulk
- 8:07Speaker 1: Hogan by defeating Harry Valdez on the November seventeenth episode
- 8:10Speaker 1: of Championship Wrestling. He made his first appearance at Madison
- 8:13Speaker 1: Square Garden on December seventeenth, nineteen seventy nine, defeating Ted
- 8:17Speaker 1: di Biase after a bear hug. After the match, Hogan
- 8:20Speaker 1: thanked Dbiase for putting him over and told him that
- 8:22Speaker 1: he owed him one a favor he repaid. During Diabiasse's
- 8:25Speaker 1: second run with the company in the late nineteen eighties
- 8:27Speaker 1: and early nineteen nineties as the Million Dollar Man, McMahon
- 8:30Speaker 1: gave Hogan former tag team champion Tony Altemar as chaperone
- 8:33Speaker 1: and guide. At this time, Hogan wrestled Bob Backland for
- 8:36Speaker 1: the w W Championship, and he started his first big
- 8:39Speaker 1: feud with Andre the Giant, which culminated in a match
- 8:41Speaker 1: with Andrea at Shay Stadium in August nineteen eighty. During
- 8:43Speaker 1: his initial run as a villain in the WWF, Hogan
- 8:47Speaker 1: was paired with Classy Freddy Blassi, himself a villainous wrestler
- 8:50Speaker 1: turned manager New Japan Pro Wrestling nineteen eighty to nineteen
- 8:54Speaker 1: eighty five. In nineteen eighty, Hogan began appearing in New
- 8:56Speaker 1: Japan Pro Wrestling JPW, where Japanese wrestling fans nick named
- 9:00Speaker 1: him Issu Ban Number one. Hogan first appeared on May thirteenth,
- 9:03Speaker 1: nineteen eighty while he was still with the WWF. He
- 9:06Speaker 1: occasionally toured the country over the next few years, facing
- 9:08Speaker 1: a wide variety of opponents ranging from Tatsumi Fujinami to
- 9:12Speaker 1: Abdullah the Butcher. When competing in Japan, Hogan used a
- 9:15Speaker 1: vastly different repertoire of wrestling moves, relying on more technical,
- 9:18Speaker 1: traditional wrestling holds and maneuvers as opposed to the power
- 9:21Speaker 1: based brawling style American fans became accustomed to seeing from him.
- 9:25Speaker 1: In addition, Hogan used the axe Bomber, a crooked arm
- 9:27Speaker 1: lariat as his finisher in Japan instead of the running
- 9:30Speaker 1: leg drop that was his standard finisher in America. Hogan
- 9:33Speaker 1: still made appearances for the WWF, even unsuccessfully challenging Pedro
- 9:37Speaker 1: Morales for the Intercontinental Championship on March twenty sixth, nineteen
- 9:40Speaker 1: eighty one. On June second, nineteen eighty three, Hogan became
- 9:43Speaker 1: the first International Wrestling Grand Prix IWGP tournament winner and
- 9:47Speaker 1: the first holder of an early version of the IWGP
- 9:50Speaker 1: Heavyweight Championship, defeating Antonio Innoki by knockout in the finals
- 9:53Speaker 1: of a ten man tournament. Since then, this championship was
- 9:56Speaker 1: defended annually against the winner of the IWGP League of
- 9:58Speaker 1: the Year until it was re placed by current IWGP
- 10:01Speaker 1: Heavyweight Championship that is defended regularly Hogan and Innok also
- 10:04Speaker 1: worked as partners in Japan, winning the MSG Madison Square
- 10:07Speaker 1: Garden Tag League tournament two years in a row in
- 10:10Speaker 1: nineteen eighty two and nineteen eighty three. In nineteen eighty four,
- 10:13Speaker 1: Hogan returned to NJPW to wrestle Anok to defend the
- 10:16Speaker 1: early version of the IWGP title. After Innok one in
- 10:19Speaker 1: the finals of the IWGP League, becoming the new number
- 10:21Speaker 1: one contender to the championship, Hogan lost the match and
- 10:24Speaker 1: title belt by countdout thanks to inference from Riki Choshu.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Hogan also defended his WWF World Heavyweight Championship against Seji
- 10:30Speaker 1: Sekaguchi and Fujinami, among others, until ending his tour in
- 10:33Speaker 1: Nagoya on June thirteenth, losing to Anoki via count out
- 10:36Speaker 1: in a championship match for the early version of the
- 10:39Speaker 1: IWGP Heavyweight Championship. Hogan was the only challenger in the
- 10:42Speaker 1: history of that title that didn't win the tournament to
- 10:44Speaker 1: become the number one contender to the championship. American Wrestling
- 10:47Speaker 1: Association nineteen eighty one to nineteen eighty three, after accepting
- 10:51Speaker 1: an offer to work on the film Rocky three, a
- 10:53Speaker 1: decision Vincent J. Mc mahand disapproved of and subsequently chose
- 10:56Speaker 1: to release Hogan from the promotion for Hogan made his
- 10:59Speaker 1: debut u and in the American Wrestling Association a Boaugh
- 11:02Speaker 1: owned by Verne Gangney. In August nineteen eighty one, Hogan
- 11:05Speaker 1: started his OBBAW run as a villain with Luscious Johnny
- 11:08Speaker 1: Valiant as his manager. This did not last long, however,
- 11:11Speaker 1: as the AWA fans fell in love with Hogan's presence
- 11:13Speaker 1: and Hogan became the top fan favorite of the AWA,
- 11:16Speaker 1: battling the Heenan family and Nick Bockwinkle. Hogan's turn as
- 11:19Speaker 1: a fan favorite came at the end of July nineteen
- 11:21Speaker 1: eighty one, when, during a television taping that aired in August,
- 11:24Speaker 1: Jerry Blackwell, after suffering a pinfall lost to Brad Rangons,
- 11:27Speaker 1: began beating down Rangons and easily fighting off anyone who
- 11:29Speaker 1: tried to run in for the save. Hogan ran in,
- 11:31Speaker 1: got the upper hand, and ran Blackwell from the ring.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Hogan was eventually victorious in his feud with Blackwell, and
- 11:38Speaker 1: by the end of nineteen eighty one gained his first
- 11:40Speaker 1: title matches against Bockwinkle. In March nineteen eighty two, Hogan
- 11:43Speaker 1: defeated Bockwinkel and his manager Bobby Heenan in a non
- 11:46Speaker 1: title handicap match in the International Amphitheater in Chicago, Illinois.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Hogan went on to repeatedly challenge Bockwinkle for the AWA
- 11:53Speaker 1: World Heavyweight Championship, with the matches generally ending in disqualifications.
- 11:57Speaker 1: In April nineteen eighty two feed Backwinkle and was declared
- 12:01Speaker 1: the new AWA World Heavyweight Champion only four the decision
- 12:04Speaker 1: to be overturned by AWA President Stanley Blackburn due to
- 12:07Speaker 1: the use of a foreign object during the match. Hogan
- 12:09Speaker 1: left the AWA in November nineteen eighty three. Hogan reportedly
- 12:12Speaker 1: did this by sending his notice that he was quitting
- 12:14Speaker 1: via a letter to gangne Gagne thought it was a
- 12:16Speaker 1: prank from another promoter until he realized Hogan was not
- 12:19Speaker 1: showing up for a WA shows. Return to WWF nineteen
- 12:22Speaker 1: eighty three to nineteen ninety three. Rise of Holkama Nia
- 12:26Speaker 1: nineteen eighty three to nineteen eighty four. After purchasing the
- 12:29Speaker 1: company from his father in nineteen eighty two, Vincent K
- 12:32Speaker 1: mc mahon had plans to expand the territory into a
- 12:35Speaker 1: nationwide promotion, and he handpicked Hogan to be the company's
- 12:37Speaker 1: showpiece attraction due to his charisma and name recognition. Hogan
- 12:41Speaker 1: made his return at a television taping in Saint Louis, Missouri,
- 12:43Speaker 1: on December twenty seventh, nineteen eighty three, defeating Bill Dixon.
- 12:47Speaker 1: On the January seventh, nineteen eighty four episode of Championship Wrestling,
- 12:50Speaker 1: Hogan confirmed his fan favorite status for any WWF fans
- 12:54Speaker 1: unaware of his late nineteen eighty one babyface turn by
- 12:56Speaker 1: saving Bob Backland from a three way assault by the
- 12:59Speaker 1: Wild Samoans. Hogan's turn was explained simply by Backland, He's
- 13:02Speaker 1: changed his ways. He's a great man. He's told me
- 13:05Speaker 1: he's not gonna have Blassie around. The storyline shortcut was
- 13:07Speaker 1: necessary because less than three weeks later, on January twenty third,
- 13:10Speaker 1: Hogan won his first w w F World Heavyweight Championship,
- 13:13Speaker 1: pinning the Iron Sheik, who had Blassy in his corner
- 13:16Speaker 1: in Madison Square Garden. The storyline accompanying the victory was
- 13:19Speaker 1: that Hogan was a last minute replacement for the Sheikh's
- 13:21Speaker 1: original opponent, Bob Backland, and became the champion by way
- 13:24Speaker 1: of being the first man to escape the camel clutch
- 13:26Speaker 1: the iron Sheek's finishing move. Immediately after the title win,
- 13:30Speaker 1: commentator Guerrilla Monsoon proclaimed Holkomania is here. Hogan frequently referred
- 13:35Speaker 1: to his fans as Holkomaniac's in his interviews and introduced
- 13:38Speaker 1: his three demandments, training, saying prayers, and eating vitamins. Eventually,
- 13:42Speaker 1: a fourth demandment, believing in one's self, was added. During
- 13:44Speaker 1: his feud with Earthquake in nineteen ninety, Hogan's ring gear
- 13:48Speaker 1: developed a characteristic yellow and red color scheme. His ring
- 13:51Speaker 1: entrances involved him ritualistically ripping his shirt off his body,
- 13:54Speaker 1: flexing and listening for audience cheers in an exaggerated manner.
- 13:58Speaker 1: The majority of Hogan's matches during this time in involved
- 14:00Speaker 1: him wrestling heels who had been booked as unstoppable monsters,
- 14:03Speaker 1: using a format which became near routine. He delivered steady offense,
- 14:07Speaker 1: but would eventually lose momentum, seemingly nearing defeat. After being
- 14:10Speaker 1: hit with his opponent's finishing move, he got a sudden
- 14:13Speaker 1: second wind, fighting back while feeding off the energy of
- 14:15Speaker 1: the audience, becoming impervious to attack, a process described as
- 14:18Speaker 1: hulking up his signature maneuvers pointing at the opponent, later
- 14:21Speaker 1: accompanied by a loud u from the audience shaking his
- 14:24Speaker 1: finger to scold him. Three punches, an Irish whip, the
- 14:27Speaker 1: big boot, and running leg drop followed, insuring victory. In
- 14:31Speaker 1: nineteen eighty four, similarities between Hogan's character and that of
- 14:34Speaker 1: the Incredible Hulk led to a quick claim deal between
- 14:36Speaker 1: Titan Sports, Marvel Comics, and himself, wherein Marvel obtained the
- 14:39Speaker 1: trademarks Hulk, Hogan, Hulster, and Hulcomania for twenty years, and
- 14:43Speaker 1: Titan agreed to no longer refer to him as Incredible,
- 14:45Speaker 1: nor simply Hulk, or ever dress him in purple or green.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Marvel also subsequently received point zero nine percent of reportable
- 14:52Speaker 1: gross merchandise revenue associated with Hogan one hundred dollars for
- 14:55Speaker 1: each of his matches, and ten percent of Titan's portion
- 14:58Speaker 1: of his other earnings under this name, or ten percent
- 15:01Speaker 1: of the earnings if Titan held no interest. This extended
- 15:03Speaker 1: to WCW, whose paaring company Turner Broadcasting System, merged with
- 15:07Speaker 1: Time Warner in nineteen ninety six and became sister companies
- 15:10Speaker 1: with Marvel rival d C Comics, as Hogan was well
- 15:12Speaker 1: under way with the ENWO story line under the Hollywood
- 15:14Speaker 1: Hogan ring name at the time. This avoided Time Warner
- 15:16Speaker 1: the awkward situation of paying Marvel the rights of the
- 15:18Speaker 1: name while owning its chief rival. In a story in
- 15:21Speaker 1: nineteen eighty eight's Marvel Comics Presents Number forty five, a
- 15:24Speaker 1: wrestler resembling Hogan was tossed through an arena roof by
- 15:27Speaker 1: the Incredible Hulk because he picked the wrong name. International
- 15:30Speaker 1: Renown nineteen eighty five to nineteen eighty eight. Over the
- 15:33Speaker 1: following year, Hulk Hogan became the face of professional wrestling
- 15:36Speaker 1: as Vince mc mount expanded the WWF into mainstream pop
- 15:38Speaker 1: culture through the Rock and Wrestling Connection on MTV. This
- 15:42Speaker 1: period saw large increases in viewing attendants, television ratings, and
- 15:45Speaker 1: pay per view bys. Hogan was the main attraction at
- 15:47Speaker 1: the first WrestleMania, held on March thirty first, nineteen eighty five,
- 15:51Speaker 1: where he teamed with actor and wrestler Mister t to
- 15:53Speaker 1: defeat Rowdy Roddy Piper and Mister Wonderful Paul Orndorf. Hogan
- 15:57Speaker 1: made multiple successful title defenses throughout nineteen eight and in
- 16:01Speaker 1: the fall. He occasionally wrestled in tag team matches with
- 16:04Speaker 1: the Machines as Hulk Machine under a mask copied from
- 16:06Speaker 1: NJPW's Gimmicks super Strong Machine. At WrestleMania three in nineteen
- 16:10Speaker 1: eighty seven, Hogan defended his title against Andre the Giant,
- 16:13Speaker 1: who had been promoted as undefeated in the WWF for
- 16:16Speaker 1: fifteen years. In the months leading up to the event,
- 16:18Speaker 1: a storyline was introduced in which Hogan was awarded a
- 16:20Speaker 1: trophy for being champion for three consecutive years. Shortly afterward,
- 16:24Speaker 1: Andre received a slightly smaller trophy for his undefeated streak.

- 16:47Speaker 1: that the nine hundred was speaking on an episode of
- 16:50Speaker 1: Piper's Pit. Andre appeared with manager Bobby the brainheenan turning
- 16:53Speaker 1: heel and challenging Hogan to a title match at WrestleMania three.
- 16:56Speaker 1: The match was promoted as one of the biggest in
- 16:58Speaker 1: wrestling history at the event. Hogan successfully defended the title
- 17:01Speaker 1: by body slamming the five hundred twenty pound Andre, winning
- 17:04Speaker 1: the match with the leg drop. Hogan was named the
- 17:06Speaker 1: most requested celebrity of the nineteen eighties for the Make

- 17:29Speaker 1: the Mega Powers one thousand, nine hundred and eighty eight
- 17:32Speaker 1: to one thousand, nine hundred and eighty nine. Hogan lost
- 17:35Speaker 1: the WWF title to Andre the Giant on the main
- 17:37Speaker 1: event one after a confusing set up involving the Million
- 17:39Speaker 1: Dollar Man, Tedy Biase and referee Earl Hebner, who secretly
- 17:42Speaker 1: replaced his twin brother the real referee. After Andre delivered
- 17:46Speaker 1: a belly to belly suplex on Hogan, Hebner counted the
- 17:48Speaker 1: pin even though Hogan's shoulder was off the mat. After
- 17:50Speaker 1: the match, Andre gave the title to DiBiase as part
- 17:54Speaker 1: of their deal. However, WWF president Jack Tunney ruled that
- 17:57Speaker 1: a title couldn't be sold, so the championship was vacation
- 18:00Speaker 1: for the first time ever. At WrestleMania four, Hogan entered
- 18:03Speaker 1: a tournament to win the vacant title. He and Andre
- 18:05Speaker 1: both got buys into the quarter finals, but their match
- 18:08Speaker 1: ended in a double disqualification. Later, Hogan helped stop Andre
- 18:11Speaker 1: from interfering in the final match, which allowed Randy Savage
- 18:14Speaker 1: to beat Die Biasse and win the championship. Afterwards, Hogan, Savage,
- 18:17Speaker 1: and manager Miss Elizabeth formed a partnership known as the
- 18:20Speaker 1: Mega Powers, feuding with the Megabucks and the Twin Towers
- 18:23Speaker 1: and the rest of the year. By the end of
- 18:25Speaker 1: nineteen eighty eight, the Mega Powers had begun to fall
- 18:27Speaker 1: apart after Savage grew jealous of Hogan and suspected romantic
- 18:30Speaker 1: tension between Hogan and Miss Elizabeth. At the nineteen eighty
- 18:33Speaker 1: nine Royal Rumble, Hogan accidentally eliminated Savage while trying to
- 18:36Speaker 1: get rid of another wrestler. Soon after, at the main
- 18:38Speaker 1: event IWO, during a tag match against the Twin Towers,
- 18:41Speaker 1: Savage accidentally knocked down Elizabeth. Hogan took her backstage for help,
- 18:45Speaker 1: leaving Savage alone in the ring. When Hogan returned and
- 18:48Speaker 1: asked for a tag, Savage slapped him and walked out.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Hogan finished the match and won on his own. After
- 18:53Speaker 1: the match, Savage attacked Hogan backstage, breaking up the partnership
- 18:57Speaker 1: and officially starting their feud. This culminated at WrestleMania five,
- 19:01Speaker 1: where Hogan defeated Savage to win his second WWF World
- 19:04Speaker 1: Heavyweight Championship. Final WWF Championship reigns and Steroid Scandal nineteen

- 19:13Speaker 1: as champion, he starred in the film No Holds Barred,
- 19:15Speaker 1: which was the inspiration of a feud with Hogan's co
- 19:17Speaker 1: star Tom Luster Junior, who appeared at wrestling events as
- 19:20Speaker 1: his film character Zeus. The duo would fight multiple times
- 19:23Speaker 1: across the country during late nineteen eighty nine, including tag
- 19:26Speaker 1: team matches at SummerSlam and at the No Holds Barred
- 19:29Speaker 1: pay per view, with Hogan winning each match. Hogan also
- 19:32Speaker 1: defeated Savage to retain the WWF Championship in their official
- 19:35Speaker 1: WrestleMania rematch on October tenth at the London Arena. Hogan
- 19:39Speaker 1: would to go to win the nineteen ninety Royal Rumble
- 19:41Speaker 1: Match before losing to Intercontinental Champion The Ultimate Warrior in
- 19:44Speaker 1: a title versus title match at WrestleMania six on April first,
- 19:48Speaker 1: nineteen ninety. Hogan soon became embroiled in a heated feud
- 19:51Speaker 1: with a four hundred and sixty eight pound Earthquake, who
- 19:53Speaker 1: had crushed Hogan's ribs in a sneak attack on The
- 19:56Speaker 1: brother Love Show in May nineteen ninety. On television, announcers
- 19:59Speaker 1: explained that Bo Hogan's injuries and his wrestle Mania six
- 20:02Speaker 1: loss to Warrior took such a huge toll on his
- 20:03Speaker 1: fighting spirit that he wanted to retire. Viewers were asked
- 20:06Speaker 1: to write letters to Hogan and send postcards asking for
- 20:08Speaker 1: his return, and would receive a postcard sized picture autographed
- 20:11Speaker 1: by Hogan as a thank you. Hogan returned by SummerSlam,
- 20:14Speaker 1: and he dominated Earthquake for several months in a series
- 20:16Speaker 1: of matches across the country seventy five. His defeat of
- 20:19Speaker 1: this overwhelmingly large foe prompted Hogan to add a fourth demandment,
- 20:23Speaker 1: believing in yourself, led to him becoming known as the
- 20:25Speaker 1: Immortal Hulk Hogan. In January nineteen ninety one, Hogan became
- 20:29Speaker 1: the first wrestler to win two Royal Rumble matches in
- 20:31Speaker 1: a row. At that year's Royal Rumble at WrestleMania seven,
- 20:34Speaker 1: Hogan defeated Sergeant Slaughter for his third WWF championship. In
- 20:38Speaker 1: the fall of nineteen ninety one, Hogan was challenged by
- 20:40Speaker 1: Rick Flair, the former NWA World Heavyweight Champion who recently
- 20:44Speaker 1: arrived in the WWF. The challenge went unmet as Hogan
- 20:47Speaker 1: lost the WWF Championship to the Undertaker at Survivor Series.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Jack Tunney immediately granted Hogan a rematch at This Tuesday
- 20:53Speaker 1: in Texas six days later, which Hogan won. Flair interfered
- 20:56Speaker 1: in both matches, resulting in the championship once again being
- 20:59Speaker 1: declared vacant. It was decided that the winner of the
- 21:02Speaker 1: nineteen ninety two Royal Rumble match would also be declared
- 21:05Speaker 1: the new WWF Champion, Hogan entered in the number twenty
- 21:08Speaker 1: six spot, but failed to regain the championship as he
- 21:10Speaker 1: was eliminated by friend Sid Justice. In turn, Hogan helped
- 21:13Speaker 1: cause Sid's elimination, leaving Flair as the winner and new
- 21:16Speaker 1: w w F champion. Hogan and Sid subsequently made up
- 21:19Speaker 1: and teamed together on Saturday night's main event thirty against
- 21:22Speaker 1: Flair Undertaker, but during the match, Sid abandoned Hogan, starting
- 21:25Speaker 1: a feud. At WrestleMania eight, Hogan defeated Sid via disqualification
- 21:30Speaker 1: due to interference by Sid's manager, Harvey Whippleman. At this time,
- 21:33Speaker 1: new sources began to allege that George was Ahorian, a
- 21:36Speaker 1: doctor for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission, had been selling
- 21:39Speaker 1: steroids illegally to wrestlers in general and Hogan in particular.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Hogan appeared on an episode of The Arsenio Hall Show
- 21:44Speaker 1: to deny the allegations. Due to intense public scrutiny, Hogan
- 21:47Speaker 1: took a leave of absence from the company, later saying
- 21:50Speaker 1: that the steroid problem at the time was horrible. That's
- 21:52Speaker 1: the kind of stuff most guys did before breakfast. Hogan
- 21:54Speaker 1: returned to the w w F in February nineteen ninety three,
- 21:57Speaker 1: helping out his friend Brutus Beefcake in his feud with
- 21:59Speaker 1: Money and corporate ded Erwin R. Schuster and the Million
- 22:02Speaker 1: Dollar Man Ted Di Biase, and officially renaming themselves the
- 22:04Speaker 1: Mega Maniacs, taking on Money Ink's former manager, the Mouth
- 22:07Speaker 1: of the South, Jimmy Hart. At WrestleMania nine, Hogan and
- 22:11Speaker 1: Beefcake lost by disqualification to Money Inc. In a match
- 22:14Speaker 1: for the WWF Tag Team Championship. Later that night, Hogan
- 22:17Speaker 1: won his fifth WWF Championship by pinning Yokozuna in an
- 22:20Speaker 1: impromptu match only moments after Yokozuna had defeated Brett Hart
- 22:23Speaker 1: for the championship. Hogan reportedly used his influence to have
- 22:26Speaker 1: the finish of WrestleMania changed the weekend of the events
- 22:28Speaker 1: so he would be champion during an upcoming international and
- 22:31Speaker 1: de facto farewell tour. At the first annual King of
- 22:33Speaker 1: the Ring pay per view on June thirteenth, Hogan defended
- 22:36Speaker 1: the WWF Championship for the first time this reign in
- 22:39Speaker 1: a rematch against Yo Kazuna. Yokozuna kicked out of Hogan's
- 22:41Speaker 1: signature leg drop and scored the pinfall win. After Hogan
- 22:44Speaker 1: was blinded by a fireball shot by a Japanese photographer
- 22:46Speaker 1: actually a disguised Harvey Whippleman, the victorious Yokozuna proceeded to
- 22:51Speaker 1: give Hogan a Banzai drop. This was Hogan's last WWF
- 22:55Speaker 1: pay per view appearance until two thousand and two, as
- 22:57Speaker 1: both he and Jimmy Hart were preparing to leave the promotion.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Hogan and continued his feud on the International House Show
- 23:01Speaker 1: circuit with Yokozuna until August nineteen ninety three. After that,
- 23:06Speaker 1: Hogan sat out the rest of his contract, which expired
- 23:08Speaker 1: later that year, before he lost the belt to Yokozuna.
- 23:10Speaker 1: On May third, nineteen ninety three, Hogan returned to NJPW
- 23:13Speaker 1: as WWF Champion and defeated IWGP Heavyweight Champion The Great

- 23:21Speaker 1: against Muta again, this time under his real name Kigi
- 23:24Speaker 1: Muto on September twenty sixth, nineteen ninety three. Hogan also
- 23:27Speaker 1: wrestled the hell Raisers with Muta and Masihirochono as his
- 23:30Speaker 1: tag team partners. His last match in Japan was on
- 23:32Speaker 1: January fourth, nineteen ninety four, at Battlefield, when he defeated
- 23:36Speaker 1: Tatsumi Fujinami World Championship Wrestling nineteen ninety four to two thousand,
- 23:40Speaker 1: World Heavyweight Champion nineteen ninety four to nineteen ninety six.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Starting in March nineteen ninety four, Hogan began making appearances
- 23:47Speaker 1: on WCW television as interviewer Gene Okerland, who was now
- 23:51Speaker 1: at WCW employee, visited him on the set of Thunder
- 23:54Speaker 1: in Paradise episodes. Hype then built over whether Hogan should
- 23:57Speaker 1: remain with Thunder in Paradise or join w CW ni
- 24:00Speaker 1: an opportunity to wrestle Rick Flair. On June eleventh, nineteen
- 24:03Speaker 1: ninety four, Hogan officially signed with Ted Turner's World Championship
- 24:06Speaker 1: Wrestling WCW in a ceremony that was held at Disney
- 24:09Speaker 1: MGM Studios. The next month, with Jimmy Hart as his manager,
- 24:12Speaker 1: Hogan won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship in his debut match,
- 24:15Speaker 1: defeating Rick Flair in a dream match at Bash at
- 24:17Speaker 1: the Beach. Hogan continued his feud with Flair, who defeated
- 24:20Speaker 1: him by count out on the Clash of the Champions

- 24:25Speaker 1: a steel cage match with Flair's career on the line
- 24:28Speaker 1: and Mister t as the special guest referee that Hogan won.
- 24:31Speaker 1: Hogan's fame helped WCW to increase their popularity in the
- 24:34Speaker 1: numbers of PPV in ratings, but WCW was centering the
- 24:37Speaker 1: bookings around Hogan and many of his friends. Hogan headlined
- 24:40Speaker 1: w CW's premier annual event, Starcad Starkad Triple Threat in

- 25:10Speaker 1: with the Dungeon of Doom, which led to a war
- 25:12Speaker 1: Games match at Fall Brawl, where Hogan's team Lex Luger
- 25:15Speaker 1: Randy Savagen's Sting won. Hogan's reign as WCW World Heavyweight Champion,
- 25:20Speaker 1: which at four hundred and sixty nine days, is the
- 25:22Speaker 1: longest in the title's history, ended when he lost the
- 25:25Speaker 1: WCW World Heavyweight Championship to The Giant at Halloween Havoc
- 25:28Speaker 1: via disqualification. Following the controversial loss, which was due to
- 25:32Speaker 1: a contract clause, the WCW World Heavyweight Championship became vacant
- 25:35Speaker 1: and a new champion was to be crowned in a
- 25:38Speaker 1: sixty man three ring Battle Royal at World War Three,
- 25:40Speaker 1: where The Giant cost Hogan the title. This led to
- 25:43Speaker 1: a steel cage match between Hogan and the Giant at
- 25:45Speaker 1: Super Brawl six, where Hogan won to end their feud.
- 25:48Speaker 1: In early nineteen ninety six, Hogan reformed the Mega Powers
- 25:51Speaker 1: with Randy Savage to feud with the Alliance to end Holkomania,

- 26:03Speaker 1: July seventh, during a six man tag team match pitting
- 26:05Speaker 1: the outsiders Kevin Nash and Scott Hall against w c
- 26:09Speaker 1: W loyalists, Hogan interfered and attacked Randy Savage on behalf
- 26:12Speaker 1: of Hall and Nash, thereby turning heel for the first
- 26:14Speaker 1: time in nearly fifteen years. After the match, Hogan delivered
- 26:17Speaker 1: a promo accosting the fans in w c W for
- 26:19Speaker 1: underappreciating his talent and drawing power, and announcing the formation
- 26:23Speaker 1: of the New World Order. En Woe. The new stable
- 26:26Speaker 1: gained prominence in the following weeks and months. Hogan grew
- 26:29Speaker 1: a beard alongside his famous mustache and dyed at black,
- 26:32Speaker 1: traded his red and yellow garb in for black and
- 26:34Speaker 1: white clothing, often detailed with lightning bolts, and renamed himself
- 26:38Speaker 1: Hollywood Hulk Hogan, often shortened to Hollywood Hogan. Hogan won
- 26:42Speaker 1: his second w c W World Heavyweight Championship at Hogwilde
- 26:45Speaker 1: on August tenth by defeating the Giant for the title.
- 26:48Speaker 1: He spray painted En Woe across the title belt, scribbled
- 26:50Speaker 1: across the name plate, and referred to the title as
- 26:52Speaker 1: the En Woe Title. Hogan then started a few lex
- 26:55Speaker 1: Luger after Luger and the Giant defeated Hogan and Dennis
- 26:57Speaker 1: Rodman in a tag team match at Bash at the
- 26:59Speaker 1: Beach on July thirteenth, nineteen ninety seven. On the August
- 27:03Speaker 1: fourth episode of Nitro, Hogan lost the title to Lex
- 27:05Speaker 1: Luger by submission. Five days later, at Road Wild on
- 27:08Speaker 1: August ninth, Hogan defeated Luger to regain the WCW World
- 27:11Speaker 1: Heavyweight Championship. Hogan then lost the title to Sting in
- 27:14Speaker 1: a match at Starkad on December twenty eighth. In the match,
- 27:17Speaker 1: WCW's newly contracted Brett Hart accused referee Nick Patrick of
- 27:20Speaker 1: fast counting a victory for Hogan and had the match
- 27:23Speaker 1: restarted with himself as referee. Sting later won by submission
- 27:27Speaker 1: after a rematch the following night on Nitro, where Sting
- 27:30Speaker 1: controversially retained the title, the WCW World Heavyweight Championship became vacant.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Sting went on to win the vacant title against Hogan
- 27:37Speaker 1: at super Brawl eight on February twenty second, nineteen ninety eight,
- 27:40Speaker 1: and Hogan then developed a rivalry with former friend and
- 27:43Speaker 1: recent Ennuo recruit Randy Savage, who had just cost Hogan
- 27:46Speaker 1: the title match at Super Brawl by hitting him with
- 27:47Speaker 1: a spray can. The feud culminated in a steel cage
- 27:50Speaker 1: match at Uncensored on March fifteenth, which ended in a
- 27:53Speaker 1: no contest. Savage took the WCW World Heavyweight Championship from
- 27:56Speaker 1: Sting at Spring Stampede on April nineteenth, while Hogan team
- 27:59Speaker 1: with Kevin Nashed take on Roddy Piper and The Giant
- 28:01Speaker 1: in the first ever batmtch. Hogan betrayed Nash by hitting
- 28:04Speaker 1: him with the bat and then challenged Savage the following
- 28:07Speaker 1: night on Nitro for the world title. In the no
- 28:09Speaker 1: disqualification match for Savage's newly won title, Nash entered the
- 28:13Speaker 1: ring and hit a power bomb on Hogan as retribution
- 28:16Speaker 1: for the attack the previous night, but Brett Hart interfered
- 28:18Speaker 1: moments later and jumped into attack Savage and preserved the
- 28:21Speaker 1: victory for Hogan, who won his fourth WCW World Heavyweight Championship.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Nash's attack on him signified a split of the n
- 28:27Speaker 1: WOE into two separate factions. Hogan's became NUO Hollywood and
- 28:30Speaker 1: Nashes became nWo Wolfpack. That feuded with each other for
- 28:33Speaker 1: the remainder of the year. Hogan defended the title until
- 28:35Speaker 1: July of that year, when WCW booked him in a
- 28:38Speaker 1: match against newcomer and then WCW United States Heavyweight Champion Goldberg,
- 28:42Speaker 1: who had yet to lose a match in WCW. Late
- 28:45Speaker 1: in the match, Hogan was distracted by Karl Malone, and
- 28:47Speaker 1: Goldberg pinned Hogan to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship
- 28:51Speaker 1: on the July sixth episode of Nitro. Hogan spent the
- 28:53Speaker 1: rest of nineteen ninety eight wrestling celebrity matches. His second
- 28:56Speaker 1: tag team match with Dennis Rodman pitted them against Diamond Dallas,
- 28:59Speaker 1: Page and Karl Malone at Bash at the Beach on
- 29:01Speaker 1: July twelfth, and at Roade Wild on August eight. He
- 29:04Speaker 1: and Eric Bischoff lost a page in Jay Leno thanks
- 29:07Speaker 1: to interference from Kevin Eubanks. Hogan also had a critically
- 29:10Speaker 1: panned rematch with The Warrior at Halloween Havoc on October
- 29:12Speaker 1: twenty fifth, where his nephew Horace aided his victory. On
- 29:15Speaker 1: the Thanksgiving episode of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,
- 29:18Speaker 1: Hogan officially announced his retirement from professional wrestling, as well
- 29:21Speaker 1: as his candidacy for President of the United States. Campaign
- 29:24Speaker 1: footage aired on Nitro of Hogan and Bischoff holding a
- 29:26Speaker 1: press conference, making it a pure legitimate Both announcements were
- 29:30Speaker 1: false and made as publicity stunts to draw some of
- 29:33Speaker 1: the hype of Jesse Ventura's Minnesota gubernatorial win back to him.
- 29:36Speaker 1: After some time off from w CW, Hogan returned on
- 29:39Speaker 1: the January fourth, nineteen ninety nine episode Nitro two challenged
- 29:43Speaker 1: Kevin Nash for the w CW World Heavyweight Championship, which
- 29:46Speaker 1: Hogan won for the fifth time. The match ended controversially
- 29:49Speaker 1: known as the finger Poke of Doom. The match saw
- 29:51Speaker 1: Hogan poke Nash in the chest with his index finger,
- 29:53Speaker 1: prompting Nash to theatrically throw himself onto the mat and
- 29:56Speaker 1: allow Hogan to pin him. The victory marked the reunion
- 29:58Speaker 1: of both annimal factions in to one villainous group. The
- 30:01Speaker 1: incident had negative ramifications for WCW as a whole, with
- 30:05Speaker 1: some wrestling journalists crediting it as the beginning of the
- 30:07Speaker 1: company's ultimate downfall. Final years in WCW nineteen ninety nine
- 30:11Speaker 1: to two thousand, Hogan lost the WCW World Heavyweight Championship
- 30:14Speaker 1: to Rick Flair at Uncensored in a steel Cage First
- 30:17Speaker 1: Blood match. Later, Hogan was severely injured in a Texas
- 30:20Speaker 1: Tornado match for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship featuring him
- 30:24Speaker 1: Diamond Dallas, Page, Flair, and Sting. At Spring Stampede. On
- 30:28Speaker 1: the July twelve episode of Nitro, Hogan made his return
- 30:30Speaker 1: as a face for the first time in three years,
- 30:32Speaker 1: and accepted an open challenge from Savage, who had won
- 30:35Speaker 1: the WCW World Heavyweight Championship at Bash at the Beach
- 30:38Speaker 1: the night before. In a tag team match by pinning
- 30:40Speaker 1: Kevin Nash thanks to interference from Nash, Hogan defeated Savage
- 30:43Speaker 1: to win his sixth and final WCW World Heavyweight Championship.
- 30:46Speaker 1: On August ninth, nineteen ninety nine, Hogan defeated Nash at
- 30:50Speaker 1: Road Wilde to retain the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. At
- 30:53Speaker 1: Fall Brawl on September twelfth, Hogan retained the championship against Sting.
- 30:57Speaker 1: On October twenty fourth, at Halloween Havoc, Hogan was to
- 31:01Speaker 1: face Sting for the w c W World Heavyweight Championship
- 31:03Speaker 1: Hogan came to the ring in street clothes, laid down
- 31:06Speaker 1: for the pin, and left the ring. Hogan was then
- 31:08Speaker 1: convinced by newly hired headbooker Vince Russo to take time
- 31:11Speaker 1: off with no clear return date, despite reservations. Hogan later
- 31:15Speaker 1: commented on the match, those were whack times. That was
- 31:18Speaker 1: the old Russo and the old me. It was all stupid.
- 31:21Speaker 1: In two thousand, Hogan feuded with the cruiserweight Billy Kidman.
- 31:24Speaker 1: Their feud had negative reception, being voted as the worst
- 31:26Speaker 1: feud of the year by readers of the Wrestling Observer newsletter.
- 31:29Speaker 1: According to Bischoff, Hogan didn't want to work with Kidman,
- 31:32Speaker 1: but he wrestled him to increase the morale of the
- 31:34Speaker 1: roster since many wrestlers though they would not have an opportunity.
- 31:37Speaker 1: In w CW at Bash at the Beach on July ninth,
- 31:40Speaker 1: he was involved in a controversial segment. Hogan was scheduled
- 31:43Speaker 1: to challenge Jeff Jarrett for the w c W World
- 31:45Speaker 1: Heavyweight Championship. Before the match, there was a backstage dispute
- 31:49Speaker 1: between Hogan and Russou. The match ending was changed to
- 31:51Speaker 1: a work shoot, where Jarrett laid down for Hogan and
- 31:53Speaker 1: Hogan disparaged Russo and the company on the microphone afterwards.
- 31:57Speaker 1: Moments later, Russo came to the ring and said this
- 31:59Speaker 1: would be the last time fans would ever see that
- 32:01Speaker 1: piece of shit in a WCW ring, whilst revealing Hogan's
- 32:04Speaker 1: creative control clause in his contract giving Hogan final say
- 32:07Speaker 1: on any storyline decisions. As a result, Hogan filed a
- 32:10Speaker 1: defamation of character lawsuit against Russo soon after, which was
- 32:13Speaker 1: eventually dismissed in two thousand and two. Russou claims the
- 32:16Speaker 1: whole thing was a work, and Hogan claims that Russou
- 32:18Speaker 1: made it a shoot. Eric Bischoff agreed with Hogan's side
- 32:20Speaker 1: of the story when he wrote that Hogan winning and
- 32:22Speaker 1: leaving with the belt was a work and that he
- 32:24Speaker 1: and Hogan celebrated after the event over the success of
- 32:27Speaker 1: the angle, but that Russou coming out to fire Hogan
- 32:30Speaker 1: was an unplanned which led to the lawsuit filed by Hogan.
- 32:33Speaker 1: It was the last time he was seen in WCW
- 32:35Speaker 1: post WCW Endeavors two thousand and one. In the months
- 32:38Speaker 1: following the eventual demise of WCW in March two thousand
- 32:40Speaker 1: and one, Hogan underwent surgery on his knees in order
- 32:43Speaker 1: for him to wrestle again. As a test, Hogan worked
- 32:45Speaker 1: a match in Orlando, Florida, on November fourteenth for the
- 32:48Speaker 1: e Excitement Wrestling Federation x WF promotion run by his
- 32:52Speaker 1: longtime manager Jimmy Hart. Hogan defeated Kurt Henigan this match
- 32:55Speaker 1: and felt healthy enough to accept an offer to return
- 32:57Speaker 1: to the WWF in February two thousand and two. Two
- 33:01Speaker 1: second return to w w F WWE two thousand and
- 33:04Speaker 1: two to two thousand and three at No Way Out.
- 33:06Speaker 1: On February seventeenth, two thousand and two, Hogan returned to
- 33:09Speaker 1: the WWF as a heel, returning as leader of the
- 33:12Speaker 1: original En Woe with Scott Hall and Kevin Nash. The
- 33:14Speaker 1: three got into a confrontation with The Rock and cost
- 33:17Speaker 1: Stone Cold Steve Austin a chance at becoming the undisputed
- 33:20Speaker 1: w w F Champion against Chris Jericho in the main event.
- 33:22Speaker 1: The NWOE feuded with both Austin and The Rock, and
- 33:25Speaker 1: on the February eighteen episode of Raw, Hogan accepted The
- 33:28Speaker 1: Rock's challenge to a match at WrestleMania eighteen. On March seventeenth,
- 33:31Speaker 1: where Hogan asked Hall and Nash not to interfere, wanting
- 33:34Speaker 1: to defeat the Rock by himself. Despite the fact that
- 33:36Speaker 1: Hogan was supposed to be the heel in the match,
- 33:38Speaker 1: the crowd cheered for him heavily. The Rock cleanly won
- 33:41Speaker 1: the contest and befriended Hogan at the end of the bout,
- 33:43Speaker 1: helping him fight off Hall and Nash, who were upset
- 33:45Speaker 1: by Hogan's conciliatory attitude. After the match, Hogan turned faced
- 33:49Speaker 1: by siding with the Rock, though he continued wearing black
- 33:51Speaker 1: and white tights for a few weeks after WrestleMania eighteen
- 33:53Speaker 1: until he resumed wearing his signature red and yellow tights.
- 33:56Speaker 1: During this period, the Hulk Rules logo of the nineteen
- 33:58Speaker 1: eighties was redone with the ten Hulk still rules, and
- 34:01Speaker 1: Hogan also wore the original Hulk Rules attire twelve years
- 34:04Speaker 1: earlier when he headlined WrestleMania six at the same arena
- 34:07Speaker 1: in the SkyDome. For a time, he was still known
- 34:10Speaker 1: as Hollywood Hulk Hogan, notably keeping the Hollywood Hogan style
- 34:13Speaker 1: blonde mustache with black Beard while wearing Hulkamania like red
- 34:17Speaker 1: and yellow tights and using the Voodoo Child entrance theme
- 34:19Speaker 1: music he'd used in WCW. On the March twenty five
- 34:22Speaker 1: episode of Raw, Hogan was drafted to the SmackDown brand
- 34:25Speaker 1: as part of the inaugural draft lottery. On the April
- 34:27Speaker 1: four episode of SmackDown, Hogan began a feud with Triple
- 34:30Speaker 1: H and then defeated Triple H for the Undisputed WWF
- 34:33Speaker 1: Championship at Backlash on April twenty first. Two weeks later,
- 34:36Speaker 1: WWF changed its name to WWE, hence Hogan was the
- 34:39Speaker 1: final WWF champion and the first at ww champion. On

- 34:54Speaker 1: with Kurt Angle, resulting in a match between the two
- 34:56Speaker 1: at the King of the Ring on June twenty third,
- 34:58Speaker 1: which Angle won by submission. On the July four episode
- 35:01Speaker 1: of SmackDown, Hogan team with Edge to defeat Billy and
- 35:03Speaker 1: Chuck and capture the w W Tag Team championship for
- 35:06Speaker 1: the first time. They celebrated by waiving the American flag
- 35:08Speaker 1: as the overjoyed audience sang along to Hogan's theme song,
- 35:11Speaker 1: Real American. They lost the belts to the UnAmericans, Christian
- 35:14Speaker 1: and Landstorm at Vengeance on July twenty first. In August,
- 35:17Speaker 1: Hogan was used in an angle with Brock Lesner, culminating
- 35:20Speaker 1: in a main event singles match on the August eight
- 35:21Speaker 1: episode of SmackDown, which Lesner won by technical submission. Lesner
- 35:25Speaker 1: became only the second w W wrestler to defeat Hogan
- 35:28Speaker 1: by submission after Kurt Engel. Following the match, Lesner continued
- 35:32Speaker 1: to beat on Hogan, leaving him bloody and unconscious in
- 35:34Speaker 1: the ring. As a result of Lesner's assault, Hogan went
- 35:37Speaker 1: on hiatus until early two thousand and three, shaving off
- 35:39Speaker 1: his black Beard and dropping Hollywood from his name. In
- 35:41Speaker 1: his return, Hogan battled the Rock, who had turned heel
- 35:44Speaker 1: once again at No Way Out on February twenty third,
- 35:46Speaker 1: and lost and defeated m c mahon at WrestleMania Unteen
- 35:49Speaker 1: on March thirty in a street fight build a twenty
- 35:51Speaker 1: years in the making. Hogan's next storyline had MacMahon forcing
- 35:54Speaker 1: Hogan to sit out the rest of his contract, leading
- 35:57Speaker 1: to him debuting the masked Mister America character. On the
- 36:00Speaker 1: May one episode of SmackDown, Mister America debuted on a
- 36:02Speaker 1: Piper's Pit segment. Mc mahon appeared and claimed that Mister
- 36:05Speaker 1: America was Hogan in disguise. Mister America shot back by saying,
- 36:09Speaker 1: I am not Hulk Hogan brother. The feud continued through May,
- 36:12Speaker 1: with a singles match between Mister America and Hogan's old
- 36:15Speaker 1: rival Rowdy Roddy Piper at Judgment Day on May eighteenth,
- 36:18Speaker 1: a match Mister America won. Mister America's last WWE appearance
- 36:21Speaker 1: was on the June twenty sixth episode of SmackDown, when
- 36:24Speaker 1: Big Show and the World's Greatest tag team Charlie Hass
- 36:27Speaker 1: and Shelton Benjamin defeated Brock Lesner, Kurt Engle, and Mister
- 36:30Speaker 1: America in a six man tag team match. After SmackDown
- 36:32Speaker 1: went off the air, Mister America unmasked to show the
- 36:35Speaker 1: fans that he was indeed Hogan, putting his finger to
- 36:37Speaker 1: his lips, telling the fans to keep quiet about his secret.
- 36:39Speaker 1: The next week, Hogan quit w WE due to frustration
- 36:42Speaker 1: with the creative team. On the July three episode of SmackDown,
- 36:45Speaker 1: mc mayhon showed the footage of Mister America unmasking as
- 36:47Speaker 1: Hogan and fired him, although Hogan had already quit in
- 36:50Speaker 1: real life. It was later revealed that Hogan was unhappy
- 36:52Speaker 1: with the payoffs for his matches after his comeback under
- 36:55Speaker 1: the Mister America gimmick second return to MGPW two thousand
- 36:58Speaker 1: and three. Hogan returned to NJPW in October two thousand
- 37:02Speaker 1: and three when he defeated Masahiro Chono at Ultimate Crush

- 37:08Speaker 1: Total NonStop Action Wrestling TNA began making overtures to Hogan,
- 37:13Speaker 1: culminating in Jeff Jarrett, co founder of TNA and then
- 37:16Speaker 1: NWA World Heavyweight Champion, launching an on air attack on
- 37:19Speaker 1: Hogan in Japan after the Chono match. The attack was
- 37:22Speaker 1: supposed to be a precursor to Hogan battling Jarrett for
- 37:24Speaker 1: the NWA World Heavyweight Championship at TNA's first three hour
- 37:28Speaker 1: pay per view. Due to recurring knee and hit problems,
- 37:31Speaker 1: Hogan did not appear in TNA third return to WWE

- 37:52Speaker 1: The build up to Hogan's Hall of Fame induction and
- 37:55Speaker 1: preparation for his WrestleMania angle was shown on the first
- 37:57Speaker 1: season of Hogan Knows Best. Next next night, on RAW,
- 38:00Speaker 1: Hassan and Dive came out to confront an assault fan
- 38:03Speaker 1: favorite Seawn Michaels at Backlash on May one, Hassan and

- 38:16Speaker 1: asked questions by Carlito concerning his daughter Brooke, Hogan attacked Carlito.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Kurt Engel then also appeared making comments about Brook, which
- 38:23Speaker 1: further upset Hogan, who was eventually double team by Carlito
- 38:26Speaker 1: and Engle, but was saved by Shawn Michaels. Later that night,
- 38:29Speaker 1: Michaels and Hogan defeated Carlito and Angle in a tag
- 38:31Speaker 1: team match. During the post to match celebration, Michaels performed
- 38:34Speaker 1: the Sweet Chin music on Hogan and walked off. The

- 39:13Speaker 1: attacked Hogan in the parking lot. He later challenged Hogan
- 39:16Speaker 1: to a match at Summer Slam on August twentieth, which
- 39:18Speaker 1: Hogan won. This was Hulk Hogan's final match wrestling for
- 39:22Speaker 1: the WWE, although he had negotiations for a match against
- 39:24Speaker 1: John Cena at WrestleMania twenty five, which ultimately fell through
- 39:28Speaker 1: Memphis Wrestling two thousand and seven. During this time, Hogan
- 39:31Speaker 1: was invited to join Memphis Wrestling to face Jerry Lawler.

- 53:20Speaker 1: a better worker than Flair. For me, I always had
- 53:23Speaker 1: amazing matches with Hogan because he knew exactly who he
- 53:26Speaker 1: was as a baby face, as a heel, whatever. He
- 53:28Speaker 1: was so great, he knew his audience. He didn't do
- 53:31Speaker 1: anything he didn't have to. It was one of my
- 53:33Speaker 1: favorite times in my career. On February twenty, twenty nineteen,
- 53:36Speaker 1: it was announced that Chris Hemsworth would portray him in
