- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning. You are currently doing morning
- 0:31chores with me in the house. The reason for this is based on
- 0:35we've had a lot of conversation myself with clients talked about
- 0:39it on here, finishing up the year, finishing up your list,
- 0:42making sure you're doing the things that you wanted to have
- 0:44done before we start adding new things onto the list.
- 0:47And one of the interesting things that has been coming up
- 0:51is well, I, I can't even look at that list.
- 0:54I haven't been looking at that list, which was for that was a
- 0:57rare one. But for some people that is
- 1:00true. They look at the things they
- 1:01really wanted to do, which isn't a problem that it's problems
- 1:04itself because they ignored the ones that they had on there that
- 1:07they didn't want to do, which is a big no, no in my world.
- 1:10But that's a a story for another day.
- 1:13So today, how do you how do you handle it like this is what
- 1:16they're saying to people are even messaging in and saying,
- 1:19Hey, how do I handle this? Because I feel crappy.
- 1:24I didn't do some of the stuff on this list.
- 1:26I don't know where I'm going to find the time.
- 1:28I don't know what's going to happen.
- 1:30I'm even going to get a chance to do all of this.
- 1:33And those are great questions, especially when you have been
- 1:36putting things off. And putting things off is never,
- 1:41ever, ever a good strategy to deal with something when you
- 1:45have to deal with it. It's better to grab the bull by
- 1:47the horns and do it. But let's assume for a minute
- 1:50that you didn't do that because we all do that and we all put
- 1:53things off. Even me, I do it with the things
- 1:56that I don't want to do, which is why I'm very specific and
- 1:59careful about not putting things on my list that are things that
- 2:04I can leverage out or don't want to do for some reason myself.
- 2:10And the ones that I'm really have to be the one to do, I find
- 2:13a way to make it fun. I work at it.
- 2:15I reward myself with chocolate. I go to the NTH degree to to
- 2:20kind of figure out how to make me want to do it more.
- 2:24However, right now we're talking about what do you do when you've
- 2:27got this list in front of you? Well, the first thing is you've
- 2:30got to make it digestible. So This is why you're doing
- 2:33chores with me right now. I don't mind doing my morning
- 2:37chores ever because I have conditioned myself to believe
- 2:41that every time I do one thing, I hear this like little clapping
- 2:46in my head, if you will, where I'm like, OK, that's done,
- 2:49that's done, that's done, that's done.
- 2:50And I like hearing myself go through that process of like,
- 2:54OK, that's taken care of. So currently we are making my
- 2:57bed and as soon as I can make the bed, that is the thing I do
- 3:01to make the bed. And but what I mean by that is
- 3:04because I have to wait for my husband to get up and get out.
- 3:06That's one of those things. As soon as he's up and out, the
- 3:09joke is he doesn't. The sheets aren't even cooled
- 3:12off and he's the beds already made.
- 3:14And that's true it it's actually a true statement.
- 3:17I do laundry every day. I chip away at things.
- 3:20I don't let stuff build up. So doing that gives me a clean
- 3:25slate and I don't have to stress about time because the time I'm
- 3:30buying it back by doing things in increments differently.
- 3:33So that list of things that's sitting there that you may have
- 3:37to do, you have to decide, OK, am I, am I conflating these
- 3:42issues of my daily stuff with the stuff that I didn't get
- 3:46done, which was my goal stuff? Because there are daily goals.
- 3:50There are weekly goals, monthly goes, yearly goes.
- 3:53We have so many goals and we just have to realize, are we
- 3:56conflating them? Is there a way for us to break
- 3:59them out? How do we focus on them and make
- 4:02them digestible? Into digestible chunks, my
- 4:05friends, is the key. And if you can do the digestible
- 4:08chunks, you're going to feel a heck of a lot better in the
- 4:11process because you're going to see more wins along the way.
- 4:15It only makes sense. And as you see more wins along
- 4:18the way, you're going to feel more comfortable and you're
- 4:20going to be like, OK, yes. And one, once you get on a roll,
- 4:24it feels better. So the first thing is don't
- 4:27allow yourself to become the person who just beats yourself
- 4:31up and go, well, that didn't even make a dent in it.
- 4:33Don't allow that. Celebrate every little tiny win.
- 4:37Every, and I mean it, every little tiny win.
- 4:40OK, I just made the bed. Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding.
- 4:42Winner, winner, chicken dinner. No pun intended with the chicken
- 4:45part, but you get my point. Everything that you do, I don't
- 4:49care if it's cleaning the cat box.
- 4:51All those little chores add up. All those little chores make a
- 4:55difference. All those little chores make us
- 4:58feel like we've gotten more and more and more accomplished.
- 5:01I mean, I, I like to believe that nobody can get more things
- 5:05done in a day than me. And that's only because I chip
- 5:09away at all those little ones. I don't make it just about these
- 5:12big giant goals that are not going to happen in one day.
- 5:15They're just not all going to happen in one day.
- 5:17So I don't tear myself apart trying to figure that piece out.
- 5:21I just go through and I do 1111111.
- 5:25So if you've got a lot of things on that list and those things on
- 5:28that list are are really bothering you, chunk them down.
- 5:31Figure out what are the small ones that you can do pretty
- 5:35effortlessly. Even if it's not effortlessly,
- 5:37what are the smaller ones? And just start.
- 5:40And once you start doing it, it will flow and make it a lot
- 5:43easier. So I'm going to go finish the
- 5:45chores of the morning. I'm going to go start my son's
- 5:49breakfast, wake him up because he has a work day today and get
- 5:53him off to, to, to work and see how the rest of my day goes.
- 5:59So I hope you guys have a blessed day and I will see you
- 6:01tomorrow. Remember, chip away small,
- 6:04small, small and I'll see you then.
- 6:06Bye.
