Transcript
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: What's up everyone?
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Comedy Podcast, where comedy majors my commute.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, David Thompson, and this is episode 19.67.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: Uh, and let me tell you why.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: Let me tell you why it's 19.67.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Uh because Melissa and I, uh Melissa Nami, who's uh gonna be my guest in episode 20, uh she's been busy, I've been busy, she's working on location at uh job sites, I am getting me.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: Uh and then I just started a new job.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: So I'm getting used to these hours, you know, these degenerate degenerate hours of the morning.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Um because I'm used to staying up, you know, I'm used to going to shows, I'm used to doing shows, I'm used to just to doing shows, you know.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: And then now I'm waking up at four o'clock in the morning, and I'm just like, man.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: But I just got an email uh congratulating me on so many concurrent listeners this last week, and I'm like, I need to freaking put out an episode because we're already we're pushing Thursday.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: It's Thursday, and I haven't put out the episode yet, because we haven't done it yet.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: I'm just being honest, we haven't done it yet.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: You know?
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: So I'm like, you know what?
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: 19.67 is coming up.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: So that's where we're at now.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: But yeah, so I started this new job.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Uh I can't say where I work, but I work with trains, which is pretty great.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: Uh I've been in I've been enjoying it thoroughly.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Uh obviously the hours are different for me, but the overall enjoyment of the job and how much I'm making is very pleasant.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: So that is my synopsis so far.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Uh very interesting set of people for sure that I work with.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: A lot of characters.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Everybody has a nickname.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: I haven't been given a nickname yet because I'm not I'm not there yet where they're like nickname status.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: They you have to be in the in crowd to get nickname status.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: I'm not in the in crowd yet.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: I'm still on the outside.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: You know, I'm still I'm still on the outside of the rope.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: I'm not I'm not family yet.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: You know, one of the things they say is like, hey, we're not just coworkers, we're family.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: I'm like, really?
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: We're family?
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: Are we?
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: That's beautiful, that's a beautiful thing.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: Thank you for that.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: I just I needed more family.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: That's what I needed more of.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: I needed I needed more family.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: That's that's great.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: More people to buy freaking Christmas presents for?
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Is that why you're paying me more?
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: Is that why you're paying me more than my other jobs did?
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Because I got more Christmas presents to buy.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: You know?
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Excuse me.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: So yeah, that's cool.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Woke up this morning and I'm like, am I sick?
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: Got a little got some sniffles.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: I'm like, you know what, I these are allergies.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: And I used to never have allergies as kids.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: As kids?
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: What the fick?
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Am I multiple children?
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: As a kid, I never had allergies.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: At least in my recollection of it.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: That was never a thing.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: And for some reason as a as an adult, you know, if I walk into a dusty room and and then just turn around, do a 180, and walk out, I'm I'm gonna be sneezing and coughing for like three days.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: That's just what it is now.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: I don't know what that is, you know, I have no idea what that is, but it just is.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: It just is.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: You know, I'm in this classroom learning my new job, and there's sick people in there, and so that's why I was concerned, because there's sick people in there, and there's there's guys with their snot, and they're and they're sneezing, and they're coughing every day.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm just in there, and there's coughing, and there's sneezing and now I have coughing.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: No coughing.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: I have runny nose and sneezing.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: Is that related?
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: It's possible, and then I was doing a little module, you know, just one of those little online things you gotta do when you start a new job.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: And it wasn't working on the laptop they gave me, so they gave me the sick guy's laptop.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, hey, thank you.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: Now I'm sick.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry, I'm gonna eat in your ear because I have to eat a banana because I'm hungry.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: I apologize.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: But um, yeah, I'm like, now you just condemned me to being sick.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: You know?
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: What happened to us being family?
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: You know?
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: You gonna I thought you're gonna watch watch my back.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: Or is it oh like we're family, let's go through this together.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: Like, let's all get sick.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: Quick.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: I put the banana on the passenger seat and then it's like, put the seatbelt on.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: Freaking, I didn't realize this banana was so thick.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: That's crazy.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: Pause.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: Um, no, but it's cool though.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: I'm excited to have this job.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: You know, we were freaking praying for this job, we were hoping for this job, we were I was putting in applications like crazy, you guys.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: I needed a freaking job.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: You know, what the frick is going on here?
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: Why is this thing giving me so much trouble right now?
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: You guys know how it is.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: We got technical difficulties over here.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: I got this here.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: I got this back here.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: Is it my joke book?
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: Is that the problem?
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: Is it my joke book?
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: I have my joke book on the seat.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: It's just, you know what?
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: Frick it.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: It's just what it is.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: I think we're okay now.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, no, I just I needed a job.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: You know, I was doing DoorDash for years, and that just was not cutting it.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: Barely covering the bills, you know.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: And that's just my gambling problem betting on the bills.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: No, I'm just kidding.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, I needed a I needed a job, and this job was a good job.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: The schedule to start, you know, obviously is different.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: And that's gonna change again.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: My my schedule is going to change again.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: And so we'll see what happens with how that affects my comedy.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I'm just I'm feeling I'm feeling a little a little FOMO.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: I'm feeling a little FOMO, you know.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: Everybody's going out and they're doing shows and and open mics and they're doing stuff, and I see I see all the posts and stuff, and I'm just like, ah, I'm just here, you know, I'm just exhausted.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: My body is just like so tired.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: I just I haven't gone out and done anything.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: Now, my next show, if you guys want to come see me, my next show is I'm opening for Steph Clark at the Rock Gallery in Palm Springs this Friday.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: So, oh that's tomorrow.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: That's tomorrow.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: Uh so I'm doing that, which is cool.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: And so that'll be exciting to kind of uh step back into doing a little stand-up.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna be I feel like I'm gonna be a little rusty because I wouldn't have performed for six days, but you know, we're just we're doing all the hits.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: We're opening for Steph and and uh her husband's featuring, so we're just gonna do the hits, you know.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: Maybe we'll throw a new one, a new one in there.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, I've been I have been thinking about some stuff.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: Um what did I write down?
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: Let me look at my joke book and see what I wrote down.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: I was writing down something.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: Uh oh yeah, just the price of diesel is so expensive.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: It's like$8.90 a gallon for diesel.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: I was like, you have to you definitely have to have multiple jobs if you have a diesel truck.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: And like it's so expensive you're probably gonna have to D sell.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: Like sell sell D D sell.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: That's stupid.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: It's freaking stupid.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: What else did I write down?
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: What else did I- Oh yeah, I told my wife a stupid joke.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: I was like, um, you know, now because I'm like working with trains and stuff.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: I was like, um what does a Latina on trial for murder and a train have in common?
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: They both have a locomotive.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, she didn't like it either.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: Frick! Um Frickin' frick.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: Frick, I felt I felt the cringiness through I felt the cringiness through the thing, through the phone.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: I felt it.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: What else did I put down here?
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: Oh, I put um this is more like a young couple thing.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: I don't know, maybe if somebody, if there's a couple that says they're like a couple years in or they're just dating or whatever.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: Uh I I wrote a little thing about how like when you're a young couple, when you haven't been married that long, like you guys will still make out when you're sick.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: And then when you're advanced in years, if you're if your partner's sick, you're like freaking get away from me.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: I don't want that freaking sickness.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: You'll put them in another room, you know.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: But when you're young, you know, you'll make out you know, when you got snot running down your faces, you'll make out still and just and just and just eat the snot.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: Something something like that.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: Whoa, whoa! Almost an accident in front of me.
- 11:01SPEAKER_00: That would've that's almost a Carmen exclusive.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: That this freaking car just got freaking melted.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: Um that's a big truck and a little car.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: It's one of those little Kiyas, those little tiny ones, and then this big truck just like came over into the lane, almost just squashed that little that little thing.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: That would have been a Car Media exclusive.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: We would have had to get out and help.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: That would have been nuts.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: That would have been absolutely nuts.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: Um what else?
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: What else?
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: Um there was other stuff I wrote down.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: Just trying to remember where it was.
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: Where I wrote it down or what it was.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: You know, I I think uh well, first of all, we recorded the first episode of our new pod, me and Ed.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: Which is very cool.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: I meant to upload it this week, but I just haven't yet.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: Just haven't.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna stop eating.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna stop eating.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: I know some people are like, yeah, we're we're getting out of here.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: Fick! Cause I took because I took one bite.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry! I gotta eat on my way to work.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: No, that's unprofessional.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: I shouldn't do that.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna do that.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry.
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry, the banana is so good.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: The banana's so good.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: Pause again.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: What the frick?
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: That's crazy.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: Uh, but I'm very excited.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: Um, got some really cool shows coming up.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: If you haven't been out to a show in a little bit, come check it out.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: Uh I know you know my locomotive joke probably isn't bringing out the masses, but I definitely got other stuff I'm working on.
