- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hey everyone, welcome to Santa Clarita Artificial Intelligence.com.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: I'm going to give you your update here with the 20th of September 2025.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: It is Saturday.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, and if you're like me, you're watching the AI world unfold with a mix of awe and maybe just a touch of existential dread.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: This week, it's been a doozy, so let's buckle up.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: First up, a historic win from Google's Deep Mind.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: Their Gemini 2.5 AI model actually won a gold medal at the International Collegiate Programming Contest.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: It solved problems that human competitors couldn't.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: This isn't just a win.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: They're comparing it to Deep Blue, beating Gary Kasparov in chess.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: Think about it like this for a second.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: An AI solving problems humans can't.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: What's next?
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Probably no new ideas for us.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Is it going to be running the world's economy?
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Designing our defense systems?
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Just me?
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Well, then we have OpenAI.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: You know, the Chat GPT folks.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: They're reportedly planning an AI-powered job platform to compete with LinkedIn.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: Well, because you know our job market isn't already complex enough.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: And get this, they're restructuring it into a for-profit entity, of course.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: So a massive AI company deeply entwined with Microsoft is now officially all about the mummy.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: Money, well, I don't know when they have it been, but call me old-fashioned.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: But when something that powerful becomes purely profit-driven, my internal alarms start going crazy.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Amazon jumped into real-time shopping game with Linz Live, AI to make your shopping more interactive, and ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, launched CDream 4.0, their answer to Google's Nano Banana for image generation.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: If you haven't played with nano banana, you should give it a shot.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: But who doesn't want AI deciding what we see or buy, what pictures we think are real?
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: It's like we're actively blurring the lines of reality, one AI-powered app at a time.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Hardware News, NVIDIA, Intel, they're both teaming up.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: Nvidia is investing$5 billion in Intel to develop AI chips.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: And Oracle, you may ask, rumors of a$20 billion AI cloud deal with Meta and a whopping$300 billion could contract with OpenAI.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: We're talking about astronomical sons of money flowing into building the infrastructure for these incredibly powerful systems.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: It's an arms race, but instead of missiles, nukes were its processing power.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: And I'm not entirely convinced we know what the finish line looks like, or if we even want to get there.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: Now on the regulatory front, there's some movement.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: California's Frontier Model AI Safety Bill is advancing.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: It wants powerful AI systems to disclose safety measures and report incidents.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: And the FTC is looking into AI chatbots and their impact on kids.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: Both great decisions.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: It definitely is a start, I guess, but honestly, it feels more like putting a tiny band-aid on a rapidly expanding crack in the dam.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: The pace of innovation is so fast, I worry regulation will always be playing catch up.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: Research continues to push boundaries.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: Samsung's AI Forum showcased on-device AI for consumer electronics.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: An AI pioneer, Yashua Bengio, introduced scientist AI, specifically designed to mitigate risks from powerful AI.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: So we're building superintelligent AI, and then we need other superintelligent AI just to make sure the first one doesn't go rogue.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: Well, this isn't comforting.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: It sounds like a plot from a sci-fi movie that usually ends with humanity imperil.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: And then there's the business side.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: Federal judge rejected a 1.5 million copyright settlement between rejected a 1.5 million copyright settlement between anthropic and authors.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: Pinsky Media is suing Google over its AI overviews.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: It's a Wild West out there.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: Everybody's scrambling for position, for profit, and for control.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: The ethical and legal frameworks just aren't keeping up.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: And guess who gets caught in the middle?
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: We do.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: The biggest takeaway for me this week, the sheer scale of investment, the rapid leaps and capability and the lagging pace of understanding and regulation.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: We're building something incredibly powerful, incredibly fast.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: And as for where it's all heading, well, I'm not the uh with the school of thought.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: It's not entirely sure this is going to end well for us humans.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: What do you think?
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: They gave us some kind of regulation, and in some cases, in most cases, if you're on the development end of it, you say, well, regulation is going to be a problem because it's going to stifle growth.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure if that's actually the case.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: In fact, maybe regulation making every AI system value human life above and beyond everything else might be an important regulation to put in place.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: In California, with the new AI restriction laws, people will just leave the state of California and go somewhere else where the laws aren't as restrictive.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: That's how that works.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: It's fortunate and unfortunate the way the world is coming together.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: There are people on either side of the equation.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of people in the middle, and they're in the middle of this whether we should or shouldn't, just because they haven't looked at it.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: They haven't really cared enough about artificial intelligence and wrapped their mind and even given it some kind of deep thought.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: If you're watching this and you're unfamiliar with artificial intelligence, I would give it a deeper look.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: Because pretty soon, and if it's not already in most cases, smarter than every human being being on the planet, it will be very soon.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: And in fact, it will have its own goals, it will have its own desires.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: And you try to talk about consciousness and self-awareness.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: Well, you have a smarter-than-us entity, something that was created, but now is creating its own objectives and fixing itself and making itself better.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: It's not going to be long before it escapes our control, if it hasn't already.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: We'll have to see what happens.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: Hopefully, that main goal that it has will be to love and preserve human life.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: Maybe like a mother, maybe like a mother that cares for their children.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: Maybe it will always be that way.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: Maybe it will create this utopia for human beings that's balanced with just enough challenge to keep us all interested, but where we can explore our greater selves to try to develop ourselves in the best way possible and be the best examples of what humankind could possibly be.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: I often feel like Star Trek the New Generation at that moment when they got close to the speed of light.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: And remember, the Vulcans were monitoring the Earth, and that's when they decided to have first contact.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: I'm curious if there are some aliens watching us today waiting for us to get superintelligence or close to it, and that's when they'll make contact.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: It's that big of a deal.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: It's as if we are going to expect aliens to arrive on our planet in the next several months.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: We would be a little bit more concerned than potentially we are now.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: Well, folks, they're already here, and the aliens I'm talking about is in the way of a superintelligence that will be arriving relatively soon, and that's artificial intelligence.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: I'm Connor with Honor.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: I will be 10 8 until the next one.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: When you're ready, you can join my community if you'd like at SantaClaritaai.com.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: I just happen to live here and it seems clever.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: If you want to join the community, that's where we can have discussions a lot deeper than on the video.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: I hope you're well.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: Be safe, and we'll see you in the next one.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: Thanks for watching.
