- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Hey everybody, welcome to cheesy popcorn.
- 0:02[SPEAKER_00]: My name is Annavar and I'm here with Chris smiles.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: And in case you didn't remember, Chris is the host of New Army's Accro right here on the Rise Network.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_00]: And I am the co-host of Kenna Kauy Dad.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_00]: Also right here on the Rise Network.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_00]: And we are going to talk movie stuff for you guys today.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: If you heard the first episode, we gave you a little bit of our bio.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: If you didn't catch the first episode, we are both have been in the entertainment business for many, many, many years.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_00]: Chris, on the radio, me, and television.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: And so we have a bit of a background in entertainment and show business.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_00]: But more than that, we are avid movie fans of a variety of genres of movies.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_00]: So if we don't talk about a movie you like right off the bat, eventually we will get to it.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: chances are we probably will absolutely I just wanted to give you some feedback I had some people reach out to me already and say that they enjoyed the first episode really yeah so we've got a bunch of great comments from some people that I know and things of that nature as well a couple of work co-workers and things of that nature I asked them to check it out and they they really enjoyed so they're looking forward to this episode not to put the pressure on you or anything but so here we go that's really tough was it's a versus too long was it
- 1:14[SPEAKER_01]: No, it was it to let this story go.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_00]: It was he won't probably you know, I will go.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: I will use sister.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, he doesn't talk like that anymore, though.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_00]: Not anymore, but he did.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to start to show talking about a movie we just saw that just came out.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: We both went to go see it not together.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: No, but that would have been fantastic.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: But Chris had another day.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to talk about F-four.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: Fantastic four.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: Last time I started, so this time you started.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: Fantastic four, of course, set in like the sixties, which was an homage to, you know, Jack Kirby and some of the other writers as well.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, the, I don't know if you caught this or not, but some Marvel fans have.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: the actual year that the movie is set in, eight twenty six is actually Jack Kirby's birthday, so that was a nod to him as well.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: And the movie was fantastic and I mean, you know, what a better way to describe it.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: But it was actually it was it was amazing.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's what I expected to be little slow to get started, I thought.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: But then once they a little bit of a spoiler alert here, in case you don't know anything about the movie, once they got into the whole galactic part of the movie, I thought it picked up really well and I thought it was great.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: Some very interesting scenes from it as well.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: So again, spoiler alert here.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_01]: One of my favorite ones was when Mr. Fantastic and the invisible woman or invisible girl, depending upon how you want to look at it.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_01]: We're having a little conversation about their baby and everything and she's like, okay, you want to see you want to see and then she made her stomach like a visible.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: So that's the spoiler alert right there in case you haven't seen it.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought that was really cool.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: That was probably one of my favorite scenes in the movie.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: Overall, the overall theme family can do things well together when they work together and things of that nature.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that was absolutely amazing.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: I have nothing with great things to say about this and I won't do what I did last week.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_01]: I will tell you that I'm giving it a nine out of ten.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was very good.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: I very rarely give ten out of tens because like that means it's perfect and you know it's not every and then I don't think I've ever seen a movie that I would give it a ten out of ten to be honest with you.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: Nine out of ten, nine point five out of ten?
- 3:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone's in a while, you know, I don't know.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe I'm weird like that.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: So what did you think in where do you fall as far as the rating goes?
- 3:35[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I agree.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_00]: Ten's are hard.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: I could probably... Council Blanca, that's about as close to a ten in my opinion as possible.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_00]: That was like the most perfectly made movie I think.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_00]: No problem.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_00]: No problem.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_00]: Possibly.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was good.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_00]: I would probably give it an eight a little lower than you.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: No problem.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: I hate to say this because I love this guy.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_00]: I love Pedro Pascal.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't like him as Mr. Fantastic.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: I just
- 4:06[SPEAKER_00]: You know, kind of, I had the same feeling with the, um, Da Vinci code.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't think Tom Hanks fit the character.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I would have liked to have seen in Da Vinci code, for instance, somebody like a Morgan Freeman, more of a crusty old guy, instead of a young kind of swab guy.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: Here, um, I thought Pedro did it.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: He did okay, but he didn't.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't convince me, you know, I didn't forget that it was Pedro and focus on Mr. Fantastic.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: I could see that, yeah.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_00]: The other three, yeah, but not so much.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: I agree, the whole message, family together, we can do this.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_00]: I love the scene with, like you said, with seeing the baby and I don't know why we're not there already in, in our medical.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we should already be there.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: This was nineteen sixty four in their doing this for goodness sake.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: We should be able to do the start track stuff now.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: Remember, bones just ran a thing and everything came up.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_00]: You got a broken ankle.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: He's got a broken finger.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: Everything comes out.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: Why aren't we doing that?
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: We should be able to do that.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_00]: I thought the visual effects were terrific.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: I like, you know, we talked about Superman having way too many storylines and villains going on.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: I like that this was one, two villains really with silver surfer.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: but I like that it was focused on the one thing.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_00]: And I like that it showed how quickly people who idolize you as a hero can turn on you on a dime.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_01]: That's exactly exactly.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: And I saw my grandson and his only comma he loved it.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: He would give it a nine probably.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't care for the silver surfer being a woman.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't mind.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: I thought that was kind of cool.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of as disappointed that the silver surfer didn't join them at the end.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: Because you know, silver surfer eventually is going to be part of that group.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_00]: I believe.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I mean, she did kind of join them.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_00]: And if you're in the same city storm.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but she didn't end up with them at the end.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_01]: Well, then they wouldn't be called the fantastic for them.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_01]: They'd be the fantastic five, which is what the problem would be with the baby, or the fab five, or, well, no, that's somebody else.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_00]: That's a fab four.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you know, they could have been a fab five.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_00]: The fact that was a guy who claimed he was ring, he was the original drop.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Pete something.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he takes with no.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_00]: I enjoyed it was very enjoyable.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: Again, I saw it my grandson.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_00]: I get it.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_00]: I got a chance to peek over him once and one.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_00]: He tapped me on the shoulder when it was a cool moment.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_00]: So that makes any movie that much better too.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, so that's always called that.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_01]: That kind of reminds me of when I used to take my son to go see the Maro movies when he was a bit younger.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: It was always great to be able to take him to the shows and then see his reaction to anything, especially as he grew up.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: And then, of course, for me, though, I was kind of like, man, I wish I was his age right now, like watching these movies and that kind of stuff.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's the one thing that in the seventies, us kids kind of missed was we didn't have a filmmatic or cinematic version of our comic books.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: We got the TV versions and they were all pretty lame.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think the only thing the only one that I think was any good was the Spider-Man one and I can't remember the actor's name but it's his first name was Matthew and I don't remember the last name but he would that was about the only one.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_01]: It was the late seventies early eighties Spider-Man TV show and it was live action and he used suction cups Superman
- 7:38[SPEAKER_01]: where you were on for super many years and the fifties and the forties and fifties and George Reeves yeah well that was way those had been in reruns probably like late night and reruns on me TV oh they are okay yeah and the best part
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: You know, when you're kid, it's Superman, right?
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: Invincible.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_00]: And then when you go back and watch him as an adult, you're like, you start to see things like Superman flies in almost every episode he flies in through a window, right?
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: And he puts his hands on his hips and the guy shoots him six times in his chest and the bullets bounce off, right?
- 8:09[SPEAKER_00]: And then the guy throws a gun at him and empty gun and he ducks, right?
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, this guy just took six bullets and now he's ducking because of an empty gun.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_00]: But I like George Rees.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_00]: Last week we mentioned George and Chris are for my top two Superman.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: So now coming up one of my favorite movie series.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_00]: They could gun.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, coming up actually today as a matter of fact.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: So I guess first.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, August first.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: Today's not August first.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's when the episodes gonna air on August first.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, it might be airing on July thirty first.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_01]: We're not exactly sure when the release date is going to technically be so you could be right.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_01]: It could be tomorrow or it could be today.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: But the release date of the movie's August first.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely correct and whether you're listening to us on the thirty first of July or listening to us on August first you have the there's your there's your difference.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: I'm looking really forward to Liam Neesum.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: So you you are sold on Liam Neesum as as the new gun.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'll tell you why okay.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's only one reason other than he's a terrific actor but.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: Well two reasons.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: Leslie Nielsen started in the same way that Liam Nielsen started.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: Drama.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_00]: Detective.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we story writers.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't fell into comedy and just tore it up.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think Liam Nielsen's going to do that with this.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: Second of all, more importantly, L N L N.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, gotcha.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: How could you get better casting?
- 9:51[SPEAKER_01]: I gotcha.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: So we're talking about sharing the same initials.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: I can see that.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: Some of the previews that I've seen so far, which by the way, if you've been to the movie theaters within the last couple of weeks, I would say.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: They've pretty much kind of shown you the same preview.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: except for when we went to go see fantastic for there was a brand new one lean was just sitting in front of the camera by himself and and and the ad raising money for comedy right it was just it was like it was like it was like it was an advertisement was kind of like this is your brain on this is your brain and then this is your brain on drugs and then they would crack that egg and put it in a frying pan
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's what a reminder me of.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: And after that preview, I was like, OK, maybe now I can start to see it.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm interested to see it.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_01]: I'm intrigued.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: It'll be the movie that I'll go see this weekend.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_01]: If I, you know, if I don't go see it on Friday night, which I probably won't.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm skeptical, but I'm not, you know, it's not one of those words like, ah, wait till cable, you know.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no, I can't wait for cable.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, absolutely.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_01]: You, you are very, you though are a huge, uh, Leslie Nielsen fan.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_00]: So, yes.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_01]: If I feel like if I was in your shoes, I'd be like, okay, now prove it to me.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_01]: Because like if we look at Liam's career and the movies that he's been in, obviously, I think most people out there in the listening audience probably know him more because of the taken movies.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: Or if you're a Star Wars fan, you know him for his, well, shall we say?
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: Well, yeah, but a lot of people didn't like him as quite on-gen.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't mind them as I didn't mind them at all.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_00]: I actually liked him playing against Samuel Jackson.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_00]: I thought that was cool.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, that was good.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: I agree with a lot of my fellow warzines in that it was just kind of okay.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_01]: Like I didn't get the Ben Canobi feel from him that I want.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_00]: Well, but you're not going to get the Ben Canobi feel from anybody.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_01]: Well, true, but we wanted some sort of mentorish kind of quality from him.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: And I feel like all I got was I have a very certain set of skills.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like it just seemed like it was the same dry approach that he does with everything.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: So, but again, pretty much the same in every movie.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: That's why I'm looking forward to this one because it's really out of his wheelhouse.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: And if he, if he does the dry as far as naked gun is concerned, I think he probably will be successful.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: But I think you should get an asker.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_00]: personally.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_00]: You haven't even seen it yet.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: No, but I don't care.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_00]: Just about Leslie Nielsen should have gotten asked for.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_00]: And they've gone and missed him a good, by the way.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I think it's, I think it's a good move.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_00]: If you're likely to leave me some, by the way, check out a movie called Honest Thief Honest Thief Honest Thief.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_01]: Honest Thief.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'll have to look them on up.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's about as far away from taking as you can get, but it's still Liam needs some John Rock kind of movie.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_00]: So okay, so those are those are our reviews of fantastic four, and that is our looking forward to naked gun, which is coming out.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: where we're a little bit distant on that one, Chris and I, he's not a Liam, he's some family guy, but that's okay.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's not that I'm not a Liam, he's some fan, it's just that everything I've seen him in and even this honest thief that you're talking about, it looks to me like it's an action movie.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but have you seen it?
- 13:15[SPEAKER_00]: No, I'm looking at, it's a prime video.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it surprised you because it is, it is, but it isn't.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_01]: And it's fairly new, twenty-twenty.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_01]: So that, I mean, I'm interested, I'll definitely take a look at it.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you know, now we can get into the kind of movies that you enjoy, which I ram comes.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yes.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: I know that you're a Ramcom guy, you're a hallmark man.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_01]: No, I am not a hallmark man in any way shape or form.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: Although, although a very interesting movie, so doing some research and stuff like that for the show, I did take a look at like what the releases as far as upcoming movies are concerned and stuff like that.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_01]: And I saw on here that a very interesting movie is going to be celebrating its fifteenth anniversary.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_01]: It's called What If
- 13:58[SPEAKER_01]: starting Kevin Sorbo.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_01]: And it was produced by this production group that formed from a church that I used to go to.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_01]: So it's a very, I mean, it's a Christian thing.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that kind of stuff.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: But it was a very interesting thing.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_01]: I think Kevin plays a pastor in that movie.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: And they were trying to wrestle.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_01]: go big and stuff like that.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: No, it not hercules or anything like that.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_01]: But I thought that was interesting that that's coming back out to celebrates fifteen that anniversary.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, neither here nor there.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: But also coming out this weekend, another great flick that I'm interested in is the bad guys too.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_00]: One was excellent.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_00]: It was.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's sealed.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: But I didn't know.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_00]: So my grandson.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't know anything about bad guys at all.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, except for other movies that I've seen where there are literal bad guys.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_01]: But when I saw the first preview for it, I was like, oh, this looks kind of interesting.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_01]: obviously bad guys take over the role of being heroes so you got kind of like an anti-hero theme going on there and I'm really interested in it so I think I'm going to I think this weekend I'm going to watch bad guys one okay and then I think when bad guys two comes in with move here like real close to my house I'll probably go over there and take a lot of good at there
- 15:10[SPEAKER_01]: I miss just a digression here for a second or a diversion, so to speak, which is also another great movie.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, you missed the the second run movie things, the movie chose, you know, like where you should be able to go see a movie.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_01]: It had been out for a while, but then you went to this other movie theater and the movie only cost you like five bucks or fifty or something like that.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_01]: I totally missed those movies.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_00]: I was thinking about that the other day I was like there's no like second when I was a little bit of a million dollars gold and it really would get the movie two weeks later to be two bucks yeah now they're regular theater now and they have first run movies and it's seven dollars it's so cheaper than most other places it's nine actually
- 15:49[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, unless it's seven.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_01]: Well, there you go.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, there you go.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_01]: So you guys double this your double dipping on the discounts there.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_00]: I went there.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_00]: I said I'm which is a first genie.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_00]: He said seven.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_00]: I said how much is it for military?
- 16:00[SPEAKER_00]: He said seven.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_00]: I said so it's a zero, right?
- 16:06[SPEAKER_01]: They have two screens there though.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they have a small screen.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's a little intimate theater, which is nice.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's not bad to we saw wicked there and we were not fine.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_00]: Much a lot let's see.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_00]: To big theaters, the impressive theater with the ceiling, obviously, if you've never gone to the table, you know, it's there to impress.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, of course.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_00]: And then Saturday's used to have the guy that came up with the organ.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, and played the organ before the show.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, nice.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that was really, and then he disappeared.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's cool, kind of like fan of the opposite.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I had my grandson thinking it was an animatronic.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_00]: For the first two or three moves we went.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, that's a puppet.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_00]: That's a puppet.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a real person.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: But then the guy blew my game because he got up and walked off.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, Grandpa.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: You're a lion son.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_00]: I gotta stop him.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there you go.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_00]: So Ram comes.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_00]: I did my five, but not in any particular order this time.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_00]: I like Leapier.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, okay.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_00]: I like leap year a lot.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_00]: You've seen it, probably.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_00]: I hate to say this.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna give up half my man card eight times.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, more if and I love it.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_00]: I always find something one little extra thing that we missed.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: We have to put the captions on because the guys got such a thick brog.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_00]: the Irish guy, and so we have to put the captions on.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_00]: The first time we watched it, we watched it again the second time while later, and we realized how much we missed, because we really didn't understand what he was saying.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_00]: And we had to look up what a hang saying which is.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, there you go.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_00]: We're like, what the, how's the hang?
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: So that's mine.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_00]: That's my first one.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_01]: That's like me with, uh, so I married an axe murderer.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_01]: Um, which I guess you can kind of call that a rom-com, not really kind of think about that.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, I didn't have them on the list, but we were talking about things and now I'm kind of like, you know what, that was one of the ones I really like that movie.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's different.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's off the beaten path, so to speak.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's got a great theme song that I used to love, like it listened to on the radio and things of that nature.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just, it's got a twisted plot to it as well.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_01]: And I had to look up what Hagus was because of that movie.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_01]: because I think there was like, oh, we're gonna have Haggis or something like that.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_01]: And then of course, my favorite part of that movie is there's the younger brother, I think, or something like that.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_01]: He's got a huge head.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_01]: So every time he's like, he'd move your head.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_01]: And it's hilarious.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_01]: And of course, they're like watching soccer or something like that.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're like a Scottish family, if I remember correctly.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_00]: I believe so.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm gonna change my list a little bit.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna add that.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_01]: So I so I married an axe murder, not in any order or anything like that.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_01]: But that would be one of my picks as well for romcoms.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_01]: I've got a couple that I think are pretty standard.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see if we have the same ugly truth.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, okay.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_00]: Ugly truth with another action guy turned comedian.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_00]: Who did a great job in that movie, by the way?
- 19:07[SPEAKER_01]: Who is that?
- 19:07[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know familiar with ugly truth at all.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_01]: I feel bad.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's a guy from law biting citizen.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_00]: He's a Australian guy, believe in it.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_00]: Why can't I think of his name all the time?
- 19:20[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my goodness, it's
- 19:23[SPEAKER_00]: High-go, Katherine High-go is the female lead, and they play really super well against her.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_00]: It's a hard butler.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_00]: Is that who you're sure about?
- 19:33[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's a really good movie.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_00]: It starts out surprisingly not a rom-com, but it turns into a rom-com.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_00]: There's a scene in a restaurant.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to spoil it.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_00]: There's a particular scene in a restaurant where they do not business meeting.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_00]: That is just hilarious.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_00]: And Katherine pulls it off.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_00]: beautifully.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think I'm honestly when it comes to her, I think she's very underrated as far as an actresses concerned.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, most people know her from Grey's Anatomy and I she played a thriller.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_00]: She played a thriller.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, Gary is.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what I'm saying.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_01]: I don't I don't think a lot of people give her the credit that she deserves.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think she got kind of that once over thing and you know, she was in pretty
- 20:12[SPEAKER_01]: And she was in that, and she was in that era where that's what they were doing type guys.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_01]: And it's exactly where I was going to go.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think she got typecasted with a lot of things.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that she deserves a second look for quite a few things.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_01]: So here's the one for me, Ramcom Wise, that is probably a standard I would think for most people when Harry Metzalli.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_00]: And I've never seen the whole movie.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_01]: Really?
- 20:36[SPEAKER_01]: You stopped after the, uh, I have what she's having line and then you were kind of like I'm done.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_00]: Every time I get to that part, I have to leave the room.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_00]: There you go.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_00]: No, I just, um, I didn't know Meg Ryan had that effect on you, but it wasn't me.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, just saying stand up comic really crystal.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_00]: We all love them.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, if you're a stand up comic and you're not in love with Billy Crystal, then you're not a stand up comic.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I didn't know there was that caliber of, uh, is, uh,
- 21:06[SPEAKER_00]: He's a handsome man.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, okay.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_00]: Tell all I'll say.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_00]: And he was in soap.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_00]: I first saw.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, in the competition yourself.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_00]: And he was cut as a button there.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_00]: He's still cut as a button.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: So you Oscar MC that he ever did was fabulous.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_01]: I will agree with you.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_01]: I think he was one of the best Oscar.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he does everything he does.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_00]: He takes over the top.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_00]: His Broadway show.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_00]: Just he's an incredible guy.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you can't help but admire him.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_01]: My favorite movie from him is Mr. Broadway is that what it's called.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: I can't remember what it's called.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_01]: Mr. Saturday night.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_01]: That's my favorite movie.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_01]: I absolutely love that movie.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's actually one of my top five comedies for sure.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I don't know if you can pay a higher compliment to anybody than to say that
- 21:50[SPEAKER_00]: a little Jewish comedian from New York was asked to do the eulogy for the greatest Muslim boxer.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_00]: Ever.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know if you've ever seen it on YouTube.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_00]: I have.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, to be able to, if you can do the first to be asked and to do that and do it the way he did it in a, you know, such a sorrowful time for the family friends.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_00]: And he, there was, you know, you cried, but
- 22:20[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, just the word brilliant doesn't even describe it, so.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_01]: No, and not at all.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, but he's everything.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: I haven't, there has never been a movie.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_01]: Even City, City, City, City, City of Slickers.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_00]: Like that's heard with Gregory Heinz.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_01]: I wish he was still acting.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_01]: to be honest.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's a lot of, he, we've been talking about other episodes that we're going to do.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_01]: He is one that I have for a actor who should have been cast in a different role.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_01]: And when we get to that episode, I'll, I'll show that.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_00]: I think he should have been in taken.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_00]: I think, instead of Liam, I think Billy Cristo and Taken would have been great.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_01]: That would be a very interesting approach to it.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: I would, I would like to see that.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_00]: I have skills.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_00]: I know how to find you.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to find you.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to kill you.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go back for this one.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_00]: The Bishop's wife, the original Bishop's wife, which is very grand.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_00]: Now, the remake with Denzel was good too.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_00]: It was good.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_00]: But the original Bishop's wife, it's not listed as a rom-com, but it really is a rom-com.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, David Niven was brilliant in comedy too.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_01]: Well, but I mean, like, I don't think Ramcom really became a thing until one of the movies that's on my list.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_01]: And I believe just like you that there are movies from the earlier generations that were, they were Ramcom.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_00]: For sure.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_00]: And Colin that.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_00]: So I like the whole concept of, and you get a nice little message too, you know.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_00]: David Niven, a carry grant, is great in any comedy he ever did, but he was another, I think, underrated comic, comedian, actor.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_00]: So the Bishop's wife is on my list.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so another, I guess what people would call standard, pretty woman.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: And I believe that's the movie to me that coined the rom-com thing.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_00]: Probably did.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_00]: Harry Matselli may have two, it's close.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_01]: You're right, either one of them could be that, but I firmly believe from what growing up in that generation.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_01]: I remember them saying, this is the romcom that started at all.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great movie.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: Some people would be like, it's okay.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_01]: But you got the combination, of course, of Richard gear and why can't I think of her name right now.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_01]: Julia Roberts, thank you.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_01]: And it's a story that a lot of people look at and they go, oh, yeah, she's a hooker.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_01]: But at the end of the movie, you really see this, it's not in pace.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that, but you also sense, I see.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_00]: That's not one of my favorites.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_01]: No, and there's nothing wrong with it.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you know, it's no normal music to younger.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it totally is.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying that it's got a great message inside of it.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I'm just saying I think it tries to have a great message.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I'm saying.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think it tries and misses the mark, but for what they were trying to do with it, I think it does, you know, what it was supposed to do.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_00]: It's got moments.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_00]: That's what you're a fan, but I like them.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_00]: I like them a Chicago more.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_00]: Richard Gearsop writes a lot of means, Chicago.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_00]: He really did.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, pretty women's not on, I wouldn't be on my way.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't expect it to be.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's more of the soundtrack for me reminds me of my soundtrack.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's great.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the soundtrack is great.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_00]: But it's seen in the store is great with a, you know, a real-scale drive, high-falutantly.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_00]: That's a great scene.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, the concept of the home movie, I don't know.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_00]: I get it.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_00]: I get it for me.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_00]: Mr. Mughal.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_00]: Now, it is a Ramcom.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_01]: because I want to see how you're going to explain this.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_00]: There's a love interest.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_00]: OK, but end up together at the end.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_01]: You could say that you could then you could by that accord, then you could say that Billy Madison is a rom-com.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_00]: It is.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's not.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_00]: Any time you got a trouble that ends at the end together, that you don't think they're going to end up at the end.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_00]: That's a rom-com in my opinion.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_00]: OK.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_00]: And let her be Nielsen.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_00]: And I forget who the girl was.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_00]: I want to say it was Courtney Cox in there.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_00]: If you can look it up, I will do that.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_00]: He ends up with her.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_00]: And again, Leslie Nielsen, you know, it would have been incredibly hard to do Mr. McGoo from the cartoon.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I get to find anybody that looks like that other than maybe Truman Capote might have looked a little bit like Mr. McGoo.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_01]: So Jennifer Gardner or Kelly Lynch.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_00]: Jennifer Gardner.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_01]: So I could see how you think she looks like Courtney Cox.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_00]: Well, yeah.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm doing that.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_01]: Electra.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_01]: Pretty.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_01]: Looks like Courtney Cox.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm glad they, you know, Mr. McGoo and the cartoon, if you were, I was a little short bald guy.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_00]: They, they get used on the news.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_00]: And instead, total opposite casting, which I thought was great.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_01]: And McGoo is blind to, if I remember.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_00]: And he's very either far near sighting.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, not blind.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_00]: Far near sighting.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_00]: But there's a scene.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_00]: There's a scene with him and a chicken that you got to watch.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_00]: is hilarious.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_01]: I will admit this is another one that I haven't seen.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_01]: It never.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_01]: You're not alone.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_01]: I know I'm not because it was one of those words.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_01]: Well, no, I don't think nobody saw it.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think there are people that saw it.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think there are people that, you know, here's another comment that some people made about the last episode.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_01]: They've actually, one of my friends, co-worker actually said, you know what?
- 28:01[SPEAKER_01]: Because of your podcast, I actually went to the library and grabbed one of the movies.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_00]: No kidding.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's great.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_00]: He's like loaded library people.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_00]: That's excellent support libraries.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_01]: He actually went to go get the shoot us because he was like that sounded like it was interesting.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_00]: So I'd be interested in what he says because that my favorite John Wayne movie for sure.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's what he said.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_01]: He was like, I'm not a big Western guy.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_01]: He goes, but you know, it's John Wayne and you know, your buddy recommended it and he was like, I just went, I was at the library and I was like, oh, you know, and I went and grabbed it.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_01]: And so, so when I see him next, hopefully he'll let me know all about it.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_00]: The ending is fabulous.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_00]: It's one of the best endings of a Western never.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_00]: So what's your next one?
- 28:40[SPEAKER_01]: My next one is actually a silver linings playbook.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, people with... Yes, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, with a bit of a mental health twist to the movie.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_01]: And the reason why I love the movie so much is because when it came out, that was one of those taboo subjects that a lot of people weren't talking about.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I really believe that this movie helped that movement, so to speak.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_01]: And made people realize, hey, you know what, this is a thing.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_01]: And it's not what we thought.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_01]: And I remember, I don't remember which side of the family is, but one of my grandparents had like plates up on the wall.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_01]: And they were very even killed.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_01]: They were all in the right row at column, this and that kind of stuff.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_01]: And as we've learned about mental health along the way, I kind of, you know, and people like, well, we did have that back then.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_01]: No, it just wasn't labeled anything.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_01]: So, but of course, a rom-com nonetheless, a very interesting and twisted kind of story.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yes.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_00]: Again, out of his wheelhouse, but he nailed it.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, absolutely.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_00]: And there's making commercials for Chilato.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_01]: Well, and he's also the voice of the raccoon.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, that was a reference to Guardians of the Galaxy, by the way.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_01]: He's also in another great movie.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_01]: The great hustle or the hustle or something like that.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_01]: I can't remember the title off my head.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_01]: But Jennifer's also in that with him as well, too.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's those two.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_00]: But I thought that was, that was after hangover, too.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_00]: So it was, I mean, total, yeah, hundred and eighty degree turn for sure for sure.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_00]: I want to say he's got nominated for an Oscar, did he win an Oscar?
- 30:18[SPEAKER_01]: I believe he, my most positive was nominated.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he won it for that year.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_00]: But the acting in that, the whole movie, the whole movie was great.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_00]: It really is.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a one of mine because I had to make room for Mr. McGoo.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_00]: Otherwise, it would have been on mine.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_00]: Looked out up and I'll tell you my last one.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going back again here, Chris, and you're too young to probably have ever seen this, but you should see it.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_00]: One of my favorite all-time actors again is Spencer Tracy.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_00]: And when you take Spencer Tracy and you put him with Katherine Hepburn, that you just can't have a bad movie.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_00]: And they did a movie called Desk Set.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_01]: Did I hear you right?
- 30:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_00]: Desk Set.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_01]: You sure this was a movie that was actually in movie theaters and you're not like in some of the theater you weren't supposed to go?
- 31:06[SPEAKER_00]: No, not in the little ones with the booth.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_00]: Desk?
- 31:09[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_00]: Desk?
- 31:10[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_00]: The curtain goes up.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_00]: No, this was called Desk Set.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's about
- 31:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's a group of women who are expert, basically expert librarians and people would call in and ask questions.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_00]: And if they didn't knock off the top of the head, they had a library of books and stuff, they'd go get.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_00]: And Spencer Tracy comes in hired by the company as an efficiency expert to try to figure out a way to get rid of the women and have a computer do all of it instead.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_00]: Like people would call in and ask for, you know, what's the temperature to cook a turkey?
- 31:42[SPEAKER_00]: Or who were the seven dwarves, stuff like that?
- 31:44[SPEAKER_00]: What are the names of Santa, seven reindeer?
- 31:47[SPEAKER_00]: And Spencer Tracy's trying to kind of get them out, like not on like, and that's the way ahead of its time, because obviously we're there.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_00]: And he ends up going up against Katherine Hepburn, who's the head of the department.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_00]: And then they end up falling in love, and I won't give the rest of it away.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_00]: But there's another gig young is in it who also makes a great foil for any movie he was in young at heart, and was the foil there too, to Frank Sinatra of all people.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_00]: But the fact that it's Spencer Tracy and Kate Hepburn, who were a couple.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_00]: not legally, but they were a couple for years and years and years.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody knew that.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, guess who's coming to dinner?
- 32:31[SPEAKER_00]: Not a rom-com, but just a fabulous movie.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_01]: That's a good movie.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_00]: And I read somewhere that in the final speech that he does, the Spencer Traci does at the end, that a lot of that he rewrote and a lot of that was directed
- 32:49[SPEAKER_00]: to her.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_00]: If you ever watch it again, every time they go to a reaction shot at Hepburn, you can see that she is reacting, not acting.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, totally.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_01]: For sure.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just beautiful.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_00]: And this movie doesn't have that.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_00]: And they did a bunch of them.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_00]: Adam, he didn't know where to vote lawyers.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_00]: Adam's rib was another one that's a Ram come to.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_00]: This one's a little better, I think.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_00]: So if you get a chance, go to library, support your libraries.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_00]: We need libraries.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_00]: Folks, we cannot get rid of libraries in this country.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_00]: It's important.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_01]: So going back to Silverlighting's playbook, I was wrong, Bradley Cooper did win.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_01]: You did.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he, I knew it was not made in two.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_01]: Jennifer Lawrence won Best Actress.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_01]: And they should.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_01]: It actually won a lot of awards.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_00]: Fabulous.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_01]: You fit the Academy Award.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_01]: So, yeah.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_00]: But no Mr. McGoo, but it's good.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_00]: That's my, that's my measure because not even I measure every movie against Mr. McGoogle.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's got at least be that.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_01]: So he just discredited himself.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_01]: Folks.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm kidding.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_01]: I totally kidding anyway.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_01]: So my last pick, I actually had a hard time deciding because there's a movie.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_01]: from my childhood that in my personal opinion was a rom-com and actually helped me get through some very tough times as a kid.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's got a great soundtrack and probably one of the greatest love songs of all time is in it.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_01]: And it's by Peter Gabriel.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_01]: But unfortunately I did not, that movie is called Say Anything.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_01]: I did not put that on my list.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_01]: because I remember that I was looking through a list of like the best romcoms of all time and I was like, there's a movie with Sandra Bullock and I can't remember which one it is, but it was film mostly in Chicago and there's a rumor circulating among my friends and family who have seen the movie because I was going to Columbia College at the time that you can actually see me in the train.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_01]: of one of the shots because I used to take the train to get to school and they just took a random train shot and it looks like me and I've gone back and I've watched the movie a couple times and I'm like, it does kind of look like me.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_01]: So the movie is called While You Were Sleeping.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I love it.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, with Sandra Paul.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think there's a scene.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think where they fall under the tracks and stuff like that.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_01]: It is a great.
- 35:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's absolutely a great movie.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_01]: It deals with amnesia and things of that as well, which is kind of it's been it's the theme sometimes and some of these rom-coms where they get amnesia and then they don't remember things and stuff like that.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, yeah, so that's that she plays that role pretty straight.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and that's just really nice.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and that's another, to me, that was another surprising thing about the whole movie is that she, she does have comedic timing if you've seen her in some other movies.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_01]: Miss King Geneality is one of them that I can think of.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_01]: That those are great, both of them actually.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_01]: I love both of them.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_01]: Some people think the second one's terrible, but I like this.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_00]: And I like the second one.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_01]: Is that the second one was just as good?
- 35:56[SPEAKER_00]: It was okay.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_00]: The first one was it.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's got that sequel thing going on.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_00]: And when you have William Chatter there too.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, oh, okay.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_01]: So it's it's bill cards.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_01]: So you got a bill thing going on.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_01]: No, not bill.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_01]: I meant to say Billy Crystal.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_01]: Billy Crystal.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, not bill cards.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_01]: That was a Ferti and Slip.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_01]: So you got a bill William thing going on your shatter.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_01]: Now you got.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, okay.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_01]: That line name is not bill anyway.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's good.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_00]: I like I saw that movie.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you just leave it.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_00]: Excellent.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's two in a couple times.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_01]: You saw it while I was sleeping.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I was sleeping.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, so you slept there at all.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_00]: I suppose this is how you said it.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'm an I'm in the fugitive, basically.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_00]: Same seal.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_00]: Same thing.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_00]: The scene where he comes out of city hall, because they come to Chicago.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_00]: And he joins the Irish Spring.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_00]: The family Jones comes out.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_00]: If you pause it, you see the ABC seven.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I remember that.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm right below, I'm just, I was doing the man in the street and the views with Frank Matthew.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_00]: Rest in rest in peace, Frank.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_00]: Frank and I were the man in the street.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_00]: We would go up in the sides and talk to people about what it's like to be Irish today.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_00]: So when we saw them, Frank and I we had a stop, we saw them running out into the street and go, we saw them doing the jump.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_00]: We can see him doing the job.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_00]: And the camera, you know, the Frank and I were both short.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_00]: So you can't see us, but you see the booth.
- 37:22[SPEAKER_00]: And if you can imagine, we're right next to the booth, right to the right of the booth as you're looking at it.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_00]: We are right there.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_01]: Never got a nickel.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_01]: Well, for that, you weren't actually on film.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_01]: So.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_00]: True, but I was there in essence.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_00]: And so I shouldn't have got something.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_01]: Wasn't that a show on ABC essence?
- 37:40[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like it was.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's a shampoo.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_00]: It is.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_00]: It is.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_00]: It is.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_00]: So I got introduced one time by a very funny comedian named Paul Gilmarton.
- 37:54[SPEAKER_00]: No, that's not true.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_00]: Bill, he's in the movie Major League and I can't think of his last name now.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_00]: But his first name is Bill again.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_01]: We go with the Bill thing.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_00]: I was the MC and I introduced him and he said, uh, he said, hey, everybody, how about a hand for Anavar and people clapped and he said, Anavar, a comedian and a fragrance available at Marshall Fields.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and he's in a couple.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_00]: He's not in all the major league movies.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_00]: He's one of the guys.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_00]: If you remember major league, there were three fans, one was dresses in Indian.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_00]: And they had that that's him.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_00]: He was the guy dressed as Indian.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, OK.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_00]: OK.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_00]: So that's good.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_00]: That's why we do this show because not only are we movie fans, but we have actually been in movies.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_00]: Credited.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_00]: Although I was a care bear in a TV show.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_00]: I was tender hard.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_01]: So we even have a care bear connection.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_00]: I have a care bear.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_00]: Were you care bear?
- 38:52[SPEAKER_01]: So I, in some festival, I don't remember if it was Vernon Hills or if it was Northbrook days.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_01]: But I worked for a guy who was responsible for the costume characters.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, if you have kids right now, you might want to tell them to put their headphones on because you don't want them to know this.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, so I was one of the costume characters.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_01]: And it was, I was, I was Shrek one day.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_01]: I was a care bear another day.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_01]: I had the cloudy care bear.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know which one that is and never looked it up.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_01]: And then I got to play Elmo.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_01]: And then the very last one.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_01]: And then when I was in high school, I was trucking trucking.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_00]: So that was tender heart in that costume in August in ninety degree weather.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_00]: They literally had a caromy off the set and put me somewhere so I could cool down every half hour.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_00]: It was crazy.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_01]: That happened to me a couple times at that festival that I was at.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_01]: I did get pulled off and they had a like a cooling RV kind of thing.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they just, they passed them now.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_00]: They have fans in the costume.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't have fans back then.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_00]: It was just like a thousand degrees in there.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_01]: Those fans don't work very well either.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_00]: So it would have helped a little bit.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 40:12[SPEAKER_01]: Probably.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that's our show Chris has been a blast talking movies with you as usual.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe we can go see Nick again together.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, okay.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'm down.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_00]: I think that'd be fun because my wife says she might come.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_00]: If you get you, I've took my microwave for come.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure that we could make it a double day.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_00]: That would be great.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_00]: And if we go on a Tuesday, it's only five bucks that imagine theater and Frankfurt.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_01]: I think most theaters are like five bucks on two days.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_00]: They are.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_00]: But, you can read them out for it, imagine.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_01]: But, nice plug bear.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_00]: So, I'm just saying.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, imagine theater, Frankfurt, if you'd like to advertise on the show, we're more than willing to help you out there.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_00]: So, there you go.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_00]: Check the horizon at work.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_00]: And, and subscribe to the horizon at work, by the way, on YouTube and everywhere you do your podcasts.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_00]: Can I call you dad, is my show?
- 40:58[SPEAKER_00]: And Chris to show is?
- 40:59[SPEAKER_01]: New on Music Row.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_00]: You don't want to miss that one folks.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_00]: Chris, thanks very much.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_00]: I've been a pleasure as usual.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_00]: So it's pleasure hanging out with you.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_00]: And we'll see you on the next one.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, we will.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_01]: Until then, have a great day.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_00]: And we'll just say keep keep the men's room cleaned for me.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yes.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_00]: Never do you.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_00]: You used to say.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_01]: No, I thought it would save us the aisle seat.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, maybe me was the aisle.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_00]: I older men's.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_00]: I'll get that confused.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, we'll see you soon, guys.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_00]: Take care.
