- 2:04on Tuesday. Chris Lawrence and Sandy Biden to talk high school football. Our
- 2:07game of the Week we'll talk to Chris in a couple of moments. Hannah
- 2:08Gardeners here from the Canal Charleston New Main Association with our adoptment. Please spend
- 2:13of the week. It's opening day, Opening Night, I guess tomorrow night
- 2:15for the Mountaineers, and Marshall, Tony Kariti and Steve Cotton are going to
- 2:20join us to talk about that and more. My guest tost this week is
- 2:23from WCHS. The other guys no relation, w c HS I, Witness
- 2:29News and Fox eleven. It's Hannah Client. Hannah, good morning, How
- 2:32are you? Good morning? How are you doing. I'm getting the chilly
- 2:36start today. It's it's nice out there, fall I love it, I
- 2:39love Thank you for joining us. As always, we'll get to know Hannah
- 2:43a little bit later on. I get to know more about her, her
- 2:46life, how she got to Charleston and play the always popular ten questions.
- 2:50You ready for all that? I'm ready? All right. It's football Night,
- 2:53which means high school football the night here at the WCHS Network, and
- 2:57we got a good one to night. Chris Lawrence here to talk about Chris,
- 2:59good morning and how are you good morning? I am well, how
- 3:00are you doing I am doing fine. All right, let's talk about this
- 3:05game tonight. Well we got well, you got Winfield and Herbert Hoover.
- 3:07They will hook up at General Stadium tonight, kickoff at seven o'clock, will
- 3:10be on the air at six thirty, right after the sports line, and
- 3:15this promises to be a good one. Both these teams lost last week and
- 3:17they're opening around. Hurricane beat Winfield pretty good. I don't think a lot
- 3:23of people expected that Scott victory over Herbert Hoover. Perhaps Scott was a little
- 3:28underrated in our pre preseason poll from Metro News, but these are still two
- 3:32ranked teams, and this game has some history because it was last year that
- 3:38they split when they played twice. Winfield won the regular season contest at Falling
- 3:43Rock, but then in the playoffs in the semi finals, Hoover went on
- 3:47the road and beat the Generals in a dramatic victory to earn a right to
- 3:53go to Wheeling last year, so that that was the last time they met
- 3:55two very evenly matched teams. But a lot of different personnel on this year's
- 4:00teams, So it'll be interesting and I think we'll get a better judgment after
- 4:02tonight's game about where these two teams stand as far as how far they can
- 4:08go this year and what the true their true capabilities are. And of course,
- 4:11the early weeks of high school football season, Chris are always interesting because
- 4:15you know you're trying to still trying to get your perfect team ready to go,
- 4:18and you haven't started really for the most part, dealing with injuries and
- 4:21stuffyet although there were a couple of really bad ones I saw last week,
- 4:25but teams are just trying to get the kinks worked out now. It does
- 4:28take that, and you're just trying to find yourself, and of course,
- 4:30like I said, there's opening games you really don't know what you got.
- 4:33Now you can start to build on or learn from the mistakes that happened in
- 4:38week one and move forward, because keep in mind, Hoover went oh and
- 4:43two last year and they wound up in Wheeling, So you know, it's
- 4:46it's all about week to week and focusing on what's at hand, so never
- 4:50give up. Coverage night begins at six thirty and it's you and you and
- 4:57Jar and Jar and Matt guitar Murphy on the sideline doing the doing this sideline
- 5:00thing, and of course, after the games take around for Fred and Dave
- 5:03uh and a host of reports from around the state on Metro News Game Night.
- 5:08Chris, I appreciate you being here, having a great broadcast. Now,
- 5:10what do we got on West Virginia Outdoors tomorrow morning. Well, we
- 5:13will talk about squirrel hunting coming up tomorrow morning. Hunting, squirrel hunting,
- 5:16squirrel hunter hund must be they got Hannah's attention to it. Yeah. Yeah,
- 5:20she's been signed doing the whole football thing since we said sun Man.
- 5:25Yes, we gotta jump on that. What is intriguing about squirrel hunting.
- 5:28I don't know. You gotta turn me a little bit. I got to
- 5:30know a background about I'll have to shoot her several and bring in some squirrel
- 5:33gravy next time she co host, maybe a new new talent or something.
- 5:36Hobby. Yeah, there you go. Yeah, welcome to the fray.
- 5:41Actually, the dove season also opens tomorrow, and this weekend starts the bear
- 5:45hunting season early bear hunting season down in your neck of the woods in Logan,
- 5:48Wolming, Mingo, and mcdowe County. And that's a pretty big deal,
- 5:54particularly for out of state bear hunters where their season isn't open yet and
- 5:57they all come into the coal fields to shoot buyers. All right, there
- 6:00you go. Are you a bear shooter, Hannah, I'll stay out of
- 6:02that one, me too, Go with the smaller animals. There you go.
- 6:08All right. So all right, let me ask you this because as
- 6:10I'm not much of an outdoorsman, as you know, even though I ask,
- 6:13even though I am from Logan County, I've almost done a Logan person
- 6:15I've ever met. So what exactly goes into shooting a bear? It's what's
- 6:19the technique? I guess I would say, Well, I mean, largely,
- 6:21it's the allure of it is. Most of the guys who have bearhounds
- 6:27like to run the bear and then once the once the bears finally up the
- 6:30tree, then you can make the decision if you want to shoot it or
- 6:33let it go and go away, and then it'll come down and they'll chase
- 6:36it another time. So it's purely up to you. But they do it
- 6:40early on because you've got so many bears down there that there's there's actually more
- 6:44than the landscape and the public can really tolerate because they didn't get into trouble
- 6:49and they start tearing things up, and so that's the best way to control
- 6:53their numbers is to hunt them and harvest them out of the population. So
- 6:56they do that early, and they do it earliest there because you can't hunt
- 7:00during deer season with a gun in those counties. Okay, so they want
- 7:03they wanted to separate that the gun hunting as far away from deer season.
- 7:08They can't. So let's not do interfere. Chris, I have a great
- 7:11broadcast night. We'll be listening tomorrow morning, and make sure to get to
- 7:14Hannah some some squirrel. We'll definitely have some squirrel. All right, all
- 7:18right, Chris Lawrence, mister outdoors, I appreciate you be here. Thanks
- 7:21all. Let's move on to our Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week from
- 7:25the Canal Charleston New Main Association. Hannah Gardner joins us now via the Bigley
- 7:29Piggley Wiggly hot Line. Hannah Gardner, Good morning, How are you great?
- 7:31How are you welcome back from vacation. I'm doing fine, Hannah Gardner.
- 7:35This is Hannah Kline. Hannah to different yep, Hannah had all right,
- 7:41so I'm just gonna call you Gardner from this point. Is that okay?
- 7:44With you okay, all right, So to get through this, SA
- 7:47al right, the story this morning, we have the story of Brody.
- 7:49Now there's a picture at a description of Brody. It's found at that.
- 7:54We have a post on Dave Allen Radio and Facebook and at Daybase seventy on
- 7:57X. The artist formerly known is Twitter. So Gardner tell us about Brody.
- 8:03Yes, so, Brody he is, like they've said, you can
- 8:07go look at his picture. But he's a little white I would say,
- 8:11not not little little. He's like a smaller than medium past dog. He's
- 8:16like a little wild wild terrier like. I'm not sure exactly what he is.
- 8:22He's a unique looking little thing, but he he's got like a squarish
- 8:26face too, so I'm not sure. So if you have any ideas,
- 8:30let us know. But he is just a little sweet boy. He's two
- 8:33years old. He isn't fixed yet, but he will be. He prefers
- 8:39female dogs over a male dogs. So if you do want to do an
- 8:43introduction with a male dog, you're more than welcome to bring your male dog
- 8:46up here to the shelter and then we can do a meet and greet with
- 8:50the two, just to see how it goes and make sure that everybody's confident
- 8:54and comfortable. But he does like male to earth female dogs, and then
- 8:58he prefers more calm dogs, so dogs that, yeah, sure they want
- 9:01to play, but they aren't like super hyperactive and they're not going to be
- 9:05all us in his space and stuff like that. But he is very,
- 9:09very sweet. He loves people. He's a social butterfly when it comes to
- 9:13people and other dogs. Prefers the female ones though, but he's really good
- 9:20on the leash. He's really really sweet, and he is ready for a
- 9:22home. He's microchips and vaccinated, so, like I said, he is
- 9:28very very He's playful, but he's more of a I'll play for about like
- 9:33ten minutes or so and then I kind of just want to hang out with
- 9:37you and then maybe play again and then hang out with you again. So
- 9:39he'd be a good one for like a nice yard or something like that to
- 9:43run around in. But yeah, he's very very sweet boy. And we
- 9:46hope that he gets adopted soon because we also put him on a news channel
- 9:52as well, because he is a good boy and we just want him to
- 9:54have a home. I think too in West Virginia. I mean, all
- 9:58of it kind tree. Since COVID, you know, we've seen a spike
- 10:03and animals needing adopted. You know, we've covered a lot of this,
- 10:07especially being in news, and it's we've been running at max capacity for a
- 10:11while now, so we're hoping that, you know, even though we're getting
- 10:15a lot of animals adopted, we're getting a lot of animals adopted, but
- 10:18we are still running at max capacity. We have lists for people trying to
- 10:22bring in strays. I mean, it's crazy. So we're hoping you know
- 10:26that if if you do adopt, then that is amazing. If you can't
- 10:31adopt, I always tell everybody that you know, we have volunteering options,
- 10:35we have donations that you can help out with, so there's plenty of ways
- 10:39to get involved. But Brody, yes, he does need a home,
- 10:43and we really are hoping that he gets a home. He's very social,
- 10:46so come up and visit him and even walk him if you can't adopt him.
- 10:50He's he's ready to be walked, Yeah, and fostered and whatever.
- 10:54Handah. One week away from Kegs for Canines at the Red Carpet Lounge is
- 10:58going to be the next Friday at the Carpet starts at five thirty, and
- 11:01uh, you just go over there straight after work next week. Tell us
- 11:05how the preps are happening there for for the event's red carpet next Friday.
- 11:09Yeah, so, like you said, we'll be there. It's keke per
- 11:13canines. We're gonna have I believe there's gonna be some karaoke. There's gonna
- 11:18be some strunship bracelet making. There's gonna be a bunch of little stations.
- 11:22We'll have pictures for your dogs if you want to bring them live entertainment.
- 11:26I'm sure we're going to have even a little station for like hair tinseling,
- 11:31if you want some tinsel in your hair. We have merchant sails, a
- 11:37lot of stuff hair tinseling. All right, maybe my producer Hollywood, Jeff
- 11:41and I we'll go over there and get our hair tinsel. Jeff's rocking the
- 11:43ponytail look these days, so maybe maybe we can get his ponytail tinseled up.
- 11:48We can make at work, all right? All right, Well,
- 11:50sounds like a lot of fun. Uh So, And I know it wouldn't
- 11:52be a possible handle without your without your sponsors. And I follow you guys
- 11:58on social media, and I see that you're cons adding new sponsor and that's
- 12:01what makes us entire event possible. Yes, yes, we have so many
- 12:05sponsors and we're so thankful for that. We love having the sponsorships for all
- 12:09the events that we have. But Kegs for Canas there is a good one,
- 12:13and you know we have had quite a lot. So if you aren't
- 12:16on our Kegs for Canas event page, go say that you're going to it,
- 12:20or that you're interested or something, and we hope to see everybody there.
- 12:24I want to talk before we let you go about the terrible flooding and
- 12:28a Monday in eastern Kanawa County to clean up there continues. What are you
- 12:33folks at the shelter scene right now as it relates to the flooding. Yeah,
- 12:37so we've had, you know, of course, the typical stray dogs
- 12:39that get out, the stray up, the get loose and stuff. We
- 12:43have those, but we also have people who have lost their homes, lost
- 12:48a lot of their stuff that they can't really care for a dog at a
- 12:52moment because you know, they've lost so much stuff. We've had animals come
- 12:56up like that as well, and it's very very sad and it's a very
- 13:00heartbreaking situation for the animals also, but the people as well, the people
- 13:05who have those animals. So if you have lost your animal, or if
- 13:09you're having trouble with food or something, you know, we have a food
- 13:13bank for people, so we try to help out and give back to the
- 13:16community for their animals and maybe even for themselves. Sometimes we have cat food
- 13:22and dogs food. But if you have lost your animal, we have gotten
- 13:26some strays in from that flooding area, so check our website or even just
- 13:31come up and walk through our channels. We have plenty of dogs, so
- 13:35come find your baby if you've had it messing for a couple of days.
- 13:37All right, indeed, press it's a good information there. You can head
- 13:41over to dave aland Radio and Facebook or on x and see the picture and
- 13:45the description of Brody. Then go adopt him from the Canal Charleston Mad Association
- 13:48and get ready for kegs for Canines next Friday at the Red Carpet Lounge and
- 13:50Charleston Gardner. We'll talk to you again next week. Thanks a lot,
- 13:54Thank you. Two handahs for the price of one this week at Hannah Gardener
- 13:58again with the cana Shaw's main Association and our dootmut please put of the week.
- 14:03It's Brody. Brodie's the dog's name picture posted not fixed yet, but
- 14:07we'll be micro chipped and vaccinated. Prefers female dogs to male dogs. Prefers
- 14:13female dogs and what do what? I don't know, but as long as
- 14:16they're calm. But then that's not to say if you have a male dog
- 14:18that Brody couldn't hang out with you. Just bring That's what Hannah always tells
- 14:22us. Bring your dog up, you know, and and doing meet and
- 14:26great. We don't know about cats are but there's no reason to believe that
- 14:28that Brodie would have a problem with kids. She says, kid friendly,
- 14:33but they advise caution. But yeah, there you go, good looking dog.
- 14:35You have a dog. Do his names Brodie as well? I really
- 14:39French? Oh nice, nice chunky thing. All right, all right,

- 18:27How you doing, hello, Hannah? How are you doing? It
- 18:30is game night, Tony, Tomorrow night, and Happy Valley Mountaineers are underdogs
- 18:34going in Many say Tony, it's do or die. Time Now for the
- 18:37climb in Morgantown for coach Neil Brown, your feelings as we head in tomorrow
- 18:41night, well, tremendous challenge. This is a This is a matchup between
- 18:48a team that between two teams that obviously are on different sides of the spectrum
- 18:53here for right now, Penn State goes into this season number seven in the
- 18:57country. People think they have a potential dark horse chance to make it to
- 19:02the college football playoff. I think it's a team that if you take a
- 19:06look at the mock drafts, they've got, you know, double figures and
- 19:08guys on this team that are going to be drafted. And on the other
- 19:11side of it, you know, West Virginia is getting absolutely zero respect among
- 19:17the voters in the Big Twelve Conference, pick to finish dead last in the
- 19:21league. So there's no question. This is not a difficult one to kind
- 19:23of put together. It's Davy against Goliath. And the thing about it is,
- 19:29though you go into these kinds of games, it's the first game,
- 19:32so you really aren't sure, really on both sides. Despite the fact that
- 19:36Penn State pretty much returns intact. They will be starting with a new quarterback,
- 19:41extremely talented, a five star quarterback. But you know, first game
- 19:44possibilities. I think that the biggest thing for West Virginia is that what I
- 19:48want to see is I just want to see them play cleanly. And by
- 19:52that I mean no pre snap penalties. You just cannot start drives first down
- 19:57and fifteen turning the ball over. I just want to see them play cleanly.
- 20:03If they do that, I think they'll be you know, they'll be
- 20:06in this game, and then you'll just have to see how the ball bounces
- 20:07literally and figuratively. That's kind of my overview going into this one. What's
- 20:11quarterback situation for the Mountaineers looking like for tomorrow night. Well, Neil Brown
- 20:17has made it quite clear that he's not naming who the starting quarterback is,
- 20:22and I think folks that followed this closely probably know who the starting quarterback is.
- 20:26But regardless whether it's Garrett Greene or Nico marchiol, I think what West
- 20:30Virginia will have is a more mobile quarterback than they have had in Neil's previous
- 20:37four seasons. You know, we've gone through Jared Deggie and JT. Daniels,
- 20:41and those guys just were not really fleet of foot, and I think
- 20:45in today's game, it's almost incumbent. You have a quarterback, not necessarily
- 20:51that it is a running quarterback, but a quarterback that can extend plays and
- 20:55keep a drive alive. And I think if you have that kind of a
- 20:57guy behind center, that can be massively important for your offense. And so
- 21:03I think a different look at quarterback, no question, and probably more mobility
- 21:07at quarterback. Tony's you and I talked about a few weeks ago when you
- 21:11were down here for the inside the huddle with all the hooplos arounding coach Huggins
- 21:15during the offseason, the cloud of Neil Brown, and now the budget crisis
- 21:19at WVU. Maybe a little football is what we need tomorrow night, and
- 21:25maybe just maybe WVU upset or a win on the road to get us over
- 21:30all that well, it would be the most massive booster shot to everyone.
- 21:37It would be a booster shot to the athletic department, to the university,
- 21:41to the state. I really, truly do believe that there's no question that's
- 21:45been a long and unfortunately memorable offseason for the wrong reasons, and there's no
- 21:51question that this is a program that needs a great wins. It's hard,
- 21:56though, I mean, you go back in a series of history and although
- 22:00we haven't played since the early nineties. I mean the last time West Virginia
- 22:03won there was in nineteen fifty four, and we brought a lot of good
- 22:07teams up there through the years, and they just for whatever reason, I
- 22:11have not been able to get it done. So it would be both,
- 22:15you know, from the emotional standpoint massive of the Capitol and and also statistically,
- 22:22it would be the biggest win on the road in a regular season game
- 22:26for a wv football program. Ever, the previous was winning against a ninth
- 22:32ranked team, and Penn State comes in at seven. So if you just
- 22:36do it by the numbers, it would be the biggest regular season road win
- 22:40if it were to happen. Well, Tony will be listening to course to
- 22:44your broadcasting game against on national television. Our coverage we'll begin tomorrow afternoon at
- 22:48three. We have nine and a half hours of coverage of the Mouth of
- 22:52Ears tomorrow, Tony, have a great season. We'll talk again soon.
- 22:55Thanks a lot man, all right, Dave Hannah, thank you guys very
- 22:57much. Take care. I'd agree to n Creedy the Voice of the Mountaineers.
- 23:02Tomorrow night is also an opening night for the Kelly Green and White in
- 23:07Huntington is Marshall. We'll welcome Albany to the Joe. The voice of the
- 23:10Thundering Herd is Steve Cotton and he joins us now, Steve, good morning.
- 23:12How are you doing well? Dave? It is almost here. Indeed,
- 23:18it is almost by the way, Steve. My guest host is Hannah
- 23:23Klein from w CHS Television no relation and uh in Fox eleven Eyewitness News.
- 23:29So Steve, Hannah, good morning, Hannah. Your buddy Mark Martin will
- 23:36be on the call on the Mark. Mark's great. Mark is awesome.
- 23:40Mark's a great guy, all right, Steve. It is rise and shine
- 23:42time in Huntington. Expectations are high for Coach Huff and the Herd this season.
- 23:48Opening night happening tomorrow night. Quick congratulations to head coach Charles Huff and
- 23:52his wife Jessica on the birth of their new son a couple of days ago.
- 23:55Blaze Otto Huff has exited the trail for portal. Uh I guess it's
- 24:02okay? Phrases that way, Steve. Sure, And as if opening week
- 24:07weren't enough on the coach's place, that's a lot ahead. It's it is
- 24:12kind of funny because Hoppy several weeks ago, had an interview with coach huff
- 24:18And and Hoppy being Hoppy, he had to apologize afterwards, like profusely,
- 24:22but Hoppy had him bonded the show and he said, why is it every
- 24:25time I talked to you your wife's pregnant? And Hoppy felt bad about it
- 24:29later and I was, I thought it was hilarious. So I thought it
- 24:32was hilarious. Hoppy, you know, being Hoppy has to go on to
- 24:33apologize like twenty five times. I shouldn't have said that. Whatever, Yeah,
- 24:37it's funny, Hoppy. It's all good, Steve. What don't we
- 24:38know about this Albany team? So Albany is gonna throw the ball all over
- 24:44the place. They have a quarterback named Reese Hoffenbarger and he's gonna be have
- 24:52his name called out a lot tomorrow. I got last year as a freshman
- 24:56through twenty four touchdown passes and only four inner septions. That's great numbers for
- 25:03a senior, for a veteran to do that as a freshman. And this
- 25:07is an Albany team that already has a game under its belt. They played
- 25:11a week zero game last week against Boredom, and he threw four touchdown passes
- 25:15and no interceptions, and they got a relatively easy win there. He hit
- 25:19eleven different receivers, so he sees the whole field. He takes advantage of
- 25:25the weak spot, and that's a pretty nice test for the Marshall defense right
- 25:29off the bat. Yeah. Indeed, Now what conference is already out of?
- 25:32Are they in a conference? Their COLONIAL'SCS conference. So we have a
- 25:38team that already has the game under its belt, playing with confidence, and
- 25:42now they're dreaming the dream if they can go knock off an FBS team,
- 25:48boom, they're setting themselves up for a huge year. Yeah. Absolutely.
- 25:52And in sports, Steve, you know they say Neaver look ahead. But
- 25:56if you're the herd, it could be easy doing a Noka. Huff doesn't
- 25:57want that to happen. He Carolina cover it up. And then you got
- 26:02Virginia Tech on the twenty third. It's my birthday hand if you want to
- 26:04write that down at Jonesy Edwards stating that that game is now sold out.
- 26:10I understand, Steve, North Carolina State on the road October seventh. It
- 26:14could be easy for Huffing there, huffs her to look past all beneen this
- 26:18game, but I know that they don't want to do that. Well,
- 26:21that's true, and they have really been able to keep Guy's focus pretty well
- 26:26throughout Huff's tenure now going into year three, and that is you know,
- 26:33I understand the thought of you know, it's easy to look ahead. We
- 26:37can do that as fans. It doesn't cost any points, it doesn't cost
- 26:40the turnover. But think about these guys on the college football gridiron. If
- 26:47you give them a month's vacation, there's still these days working out practice,
- 26:53offseason conditioning, say three hundred days a year, and they're doing that.
- 26:59Dave to play twelve games. You hope you play well enough in those twelve
- 27:03that you get to play a thirteenth or fourteen. So that's part of what's
- 27:07special. And for the fans too. Every college football game is such a
- 27:11huge deal. Now all college student athletes are you know, throw out the
- 27:15ballpark number, three hundred days a year they're working out. But basketball then
- 27:21plays thirty games, so it's a ten to one race show. Baseball softball
- 27:25play fifty games, so that's a little different. Every football game is such
- 27:29a big deal, and you would hope that the guy and talking to the
- 27:33Marshall players this week, especially the seniors, the veterans, the leaders.
- 27:37They talk about perishing that dwindling number of games where they get to run out
- 27:44onto the turf. I'm the Jyllan C. Edwards Stadium, James F.
- 27:48Edwards Field, so I think I'll be surprised if they are thinking about anything
- 27:52but Albany when they're off the field Saturday. And you know, Steve,
- 27:56I love what Huff has done in Huntington, taking for some larger schools by
- 28:02making game Day in Huntington not just about the game itself. I mean they've
- 28:07been partying in Huntington for a couple of days now getting ready for his Lots
- 28:10are going to open at noon tomorrow, the Thunderwalk is at three thirty,
- 28:14FanFest is at three forty five, and then it's time to kick some tail
- 28:18of albody at six. I love the excitement level that Huff has brought to
- 28:22the town. Not that they needed it, because it was always exciting,
- 28:26but and I remember Steve and you and I were probably at the same event
- 28:30when before Huff and coached his first game, he came in and he was
- 28:33meeting with a group of people in Putnham County over fireside grill and he talked
- 28:37about what he wanted to bring to Huntington on game day and some of the
- 28:41things he said. He said, you a lot of our Marshall fans don't
- 28:44necessarily even get to go to the game, you know, because they don't
- 28:47have the money and whatever he's got DJs. He's turned this into a big
- 28:51party in downtown, I mean, right next to the stadium. Steve,
- 28:53I think that's great, man. What do you think The atmosphere is fabulous
- 28:59on game day. If you've never been to a Marshall game, make sure
- 29:02you get to one this year Saturday. Be great. But yes, last
- 29:07night we had his first radio show of the year at restaurant Giovanni's. They're
- 29:12right across from the stadium. Place was packed, everybody decked out and Kelly
- 29:15Green they're going strong. In fact, what a weekend Marshall. Last night
- 29:22started a volleyball tournament the Herds hosting all weekend, had a women's soccer win
- 29:26over Ohio University tonight, more volleyball and the men's soccer team, which is
- 29:30right number five in the country, plays at seven fifteen against Xavier tomorrow.
- 29:37You have volleyball, and then the football game and more soccer on Sunday.
- 29:41So people have come in and you know, they've gotten their hotel room,
- 29:45come in from out of Pound. They're making a whole weekend out of it.
- 29:47And certainly, even though it's a six o'clock kickoff, Dave, there
- 29:51will be a few people at sunrise who have their grills going, the eggs
- 29:56and the bacons, the smells and will walk around. So it's a full
- 30:02day of hair. It's gonna be fun. It's gonna be electric and honey
- 30:06to tomorrow throughout the season, Steve, my hero, we'll talk again,
- 30:08sued Man. Thanks a lot and I'll see you tomorrow, Dave. Looking
- 30:12forward to it all right, Steve Cotton, Voice of the Thundering Herd.
- 30:15Good stuff have you had since you've been in West Virginia. We're gonna get
- 30:18to you a little bit later on hand. In your background, if you
- 30:21had a chance to attend some Marshall games, well, yeah, you know
- 30:22what, My great grandma always loved Marshall and she always said they were the
- 30:29most passionate man based school. Oh my gosh. And last year covered a
- 30:33couple of Marshall games. Loved them. Yeah, best fans ever. Oh
- 30:37yeah, I'd love to hear that. By the way, I didn't know
- 30:40this, so I was listening to Chris coming in. This Morny's day is
- 30:42something like college color days. I did not know that. I'm driving in
- 30:47and I'm wearing my Marshall shirt, which I generally speaking if I can on
- 30:51Fridays before a Herd game, I usually wear the Marshall green anyway, and
- 30:55so I've got the Marshall shirt on our man. I think Jared Lewis is
- 30:57back there with his kne He's a Notre Dame guy. Get the Notre Dame

- 34:35buddy. Oh yeah, Am I ready? I suppos to ask you if
- 34:37you're ready? All right, let's go to the phones. So I've understand.
- 34:39We've got a friend at Joe on the lin Joe, good morning,
- 34:43how are you morning. Dave's got a lot of things happening in Nitro,
- 34:49okay this weekend. You know. The big thing is that anybody traveling across
- 34:55the Dick Henderson Bridge Sunday evening is going just have to maybe use the Dunbar
- 35:01Bridge or the Interstate Bridge because from eight thirty pm to ten thirty pm,
- 35:07we're going to be closing the Dick Henderson Bridge. As the City of Saint
- 35:13Alban's in the City of Nitro, we have teamed together for the second annual
- 35:17Saint Albans Nitro Fireworks Show that will be happening at nine thirty. The fireworks
- 35:23will be shot off from the boat ramp on the Saint Alban's side. So
- 35:28from eight thirty until ten thirty will be closing the Dick Henderson Bridge to vehicle
- 35:34traffic. We will let pedestrians come on out and have one of the best
- 35:37viewing areas for a just a great fireworks show. That's again the Sunday at
- 35:43nine thirty, closing the bridge at eight thirty, reopening it at ten thirty.
- 35:46Love it when those two cities work together, because it can be done
- 35:52right, it can be done. And it was last year at some time
- 35:59I got called all into the Principal's office but are known as Mayor case Bolts
- 36:04office. And when I walked in there there was Mayor Scott James of Saint
- 36:07Alban's and he was in there and I just looked and I said, okay,
- 36:13my to do list just got and they said, hey, we want
- 36:17to put our pull our resources together and just throw it down for a big
- 36:22fireworks show for everybody in the area, and not only for the Saint Alban's
- 36:28and Nitro area, but anybody they wants to come in to see one of
- 36:30the larger fireworks shows of the year and that'll be happening on Sunday. And
- 36:37it was funny because they said where do you think we should do it?
- 36:38And I said, as a matter of fact, I've been thinking about closing
- 36:42the Dick Henderson Bridge. And they had the deer and the headlights look at
- 36:45me and I said, we'll make it happen and through you know all we
- 36:50had to do working with the dh They said you have to do a B
- 36:53and C. And we follow what they said. And it's happening again this
- 36:58Sunday night. It's going to be a lot of fire and anything else we
- 37:00needn't know about. Joe, Well, I'll tell you what coming up coming
- 37:05up on Sunday. Also, the Nitro Sports Complex will be having its final
- 37:08bash of the year. Starting around two o'clock or so, we'll have the
- 37:14pool open the new Nitro Sports Complex pool will be open for a few hours
- 37:20for the two legged variety, the humans of the world. Then later in
- 37:23the afternoon we're gonna be opening it for a doggie paddled dogs swim on dog
- 37:30days of summer as it may be. But it'll all be free, giving
- 37:35away some pieces, having some fun, having a dj out there just throwing
- 37:37it down and then fireworks for the Saint Alban's Nitro fireworks that night. So
- 37:43it's gonna be a lot of fun, all right, Joe, you always
- 37:45got it going on there and Nitro and your friends and across the bridge and
- 37:49Saint Albans as well. We'll talk again, Sue, buddy, thanks a
- 37:51lot, Thanks, Dave, I appreciate you. You stay safe, all
- 37:53right? Well, he's the one blowing up a bridge. The hell is
- 37:58he telling me to stay safe for some one's gonna set the Dick Henderson Bridge
- 38:00on. No, he's not. It's it's it's fireworks. Gonna be a
- 38:04lot of Last year was pretty big. So are you there last year?
- 38:07Yeah, we were out there last year. So I always bugging Joe's Yeah,
- 38:09Well Joe bugs us enough and I mean added the best possible way.

- 38:28eleven. Uh, totally unrelated. Those two they used to actually be one,
- 38:35you know, the television radio, but we got divorced several years ago.
- 38:38Let's get to know Hannah Klein. Where's home for Hannah Clin? Where
- 38:42you from? Me? And so originally from Florida, went to Ohio State.
- 38:45My parents are from part of Florida. I lived all over. So
- 38:49lived in Jacksonville, grew up in the West Palm Beach area, and then
- 38:52lived in Naples for about a year. Expensive and went to a high state,
- 38:58got my degree in sports broadcasts, graduated from there, and life kind
- 39:01of took off. Started working with groups like ESPN, Fox, NFL network,
- 39:07worked the twenty twenty Super Bowl. Really, I was on SKYT I
- 39:09loved it, loved it to death. Thought sports was sports? Was it?
- 39:14But then COVID hit. Yeah, lost my job in sports and then
- 39:17ended up packed my bags, jumped in my little car and drove to Charleston,
- 39:22West Virginia. So how long ago was that? Do you? So?
- 39:24I'm almost two years been in Charleston two years? So what was it?
- 39:30It made you want to get into this medium in general? I mean,
- 39:34you know, well you I mean you started off in sports, and
- 39:37you still do some sports stuff and now, but you're also doing some some
- 39:40some some other news as well. What was it that made you say,
- 39:43Hey, I want to be on television. You know, honestly, I
- 39:45got into sports media class by accident. I was the only walked in the
- 39:50wrong room. I did, I did. They put me in there.
- 39:52And I learned sports through my mom. So I went to every single high
- 39:57state game together and my dad would sit far away up in the B deck
- 40:00away from me. My mom and we'd sit there every year, same seats,
- 40:02and she'd teach me plays and routes with a clipboard. And that's why
- 40:07I learned football. And uh, I never thought that I'd end up in
- 40:09media. I guess I always want to go kind of the medical route.
- 40:13But once I took that sports media class, I knew there was a kind
- 40:15of a little niche for it. All right. Well, well, since
- 40:19you've arrived in Charleston, what have been some of your favorite things here in
- 40:22the in the market. There's a lot. I just bought my first home,
- 40:25so out in the Hurricane area right now. YEA, yeah, I'm
- 40:29welcome to Putnam County. I know, I love it, love Putnam County.
- 40:31But honestly it's the people. So never thought I'd end up in news.
- 40:36I always thought I'd stay in sports, but I never wanted to be
- 40:38in news. I always thought you sawed. I mean, I saw you
- 40:40last week? Did during that their high school coverage? Yes, we do
- 40:45F and R out there, so I'm able to kind of dip my tone.
- 40:46Sports still do news, but it's really it's really the relationships that I
- 40:51build. So you know, either it's sports, it's news, whatever it
- 40:54is. I get to meet people out in the community. See. And
- 40:57this is kind of the difference, I think between when you have guys and
- 41:00when you have gals on the ship, because most guys would have said,
- 41:01when I say what do you like most about Charleston, they would talk about
- 41:05chicken wings. Oh, the chicken wings or something like that. The best
- 41:08burgers ever? Had You ever had a pepperoni role before you came to West
- 41:12Virginia. Mark Martin was the first person that gave me a pepperone. Good
- 41:15old Mark, He's the best. Yeah, he brings them off and that
- 41:17in popcorn. You ever see Mark? He loves popcorns? Okay, you
- 41:21ever see him? Bring him room back of popcorn. All right, I'll
- 41:22have to I'll have to remember that I had lunch with Mark uh back in
- 41:28the spring. We were an event at Marshall together and I get to set
- 41:30to with Mark and Steve Cotton. Yeah, and uh, I felt like
- 41:34I felt full, very small between those two considering everything. But they have
- 41:37done in their broadcasting career and I'm you know here, you know, one
- 41:39hour a day doing what I do here. But uh, so you got
- 41:44an interesting I don't know, I don't know if you call had a pastime
- 41:46or something, but something else that you do on the side other than media.
- 41:50You're you're you're into pageants. I am, yeah. So never I
- 41:54did, never grow up competing, started actually competing because of my sister.
- 42:00I would kind of joke make fun of her whenever she competed. I was
- 42:02very a tomboy, but uh found a little bit of a niche for it,
- 42:06loved it. Actually just competed for Miss West Virginia. So I got
- 42:09fourth runner up, so some scholarship money kind of got my name out there.
- 42:14But I always did it kind of for my grandpa. For years.
- 42:16My grandpa would always say every morning he'd have a cup of coffee out at
- 42:21the kitchen and he'd say, there she is Miss America. And the older
- 42:24I got, I was like, I'm not gonna compete. I'm not gonna
- 42:27do it right, And they each limit changed. So it's twenty eight now,
- 42:30and I thought, might as well, you know, jump in in.
- 42:34And then I got fourth runner up and I was like, Hm,
- 42:36well that's congratulations. It's not it's not bad. Yeah, it's Are you
- 42:39gonna try again in the future. I think I'm gonna try next year,
- 42:43So it'll be out in the Martinsburg area. I believe they're gonna have it
- 42:45out there again. But it's a whole week, definitely a long week.
- 42:50So different divisions. So there's you have gown interview on stage, question talent
- 42:57and they have fitness swear. Now okay, so so can you give us
- 43:00a preview of your talent? I mean, what are you gonna do?
- 43:02I am not a singer, I'm not a dancer, and you would probably
- 43:06boove me off stage if I did so. Background about me. I come
- 43:08from a construction family, so learned everything from demoo door knobs. My grandfather
- 43:14was a carpenter and my dad passed on construction to my sister and I.
- 43:16You always wanted boys and got two girls. But I taught people how to
- 43:21fix a faulty wire. So I knew I love public speaking, and I
- 43:23knew I know a little bit about constructions, so I kind of tied the
- 43:28two together and taught people in the crowd how to fix a faulty wire.
- 43:30Really. Yeah, well that's interesting. That's something definitely different. Yeah wow,
- 43:34Well you can teach me something about that, because I know, I
- 43:36know absolutely nothing about I got a wife that is the handyman around the house.
- 43:39It's not necessarily me. I tell you what, my dad, He'll
- 43:43kill us. It's everything from demoo, door knobs. That's my dad.
- 43:45So yeah, renovating a house right now because of him. So it's a
