Six Lidl stores in Leicestershire are now part of a bold new food-sharing initiative, turning unsold but still edible goods into meals for those in need. Volunteers—called “Food Waste Heroes”—collect fresh produce and bakery items, redistributing them via the Olio app to neighbors. Already, 20 pilot stores are cutting over 1,200kg of waste weekly, with Lidl aiming for 70% waste reduction by 2030.
