- 0:06Speaker 1: Maya the Bee Once upon a time, deep in the forest,
- 0:12Speaker 1: there was a honeycomb on a tree. It was an
- 0:15Speaker 1: important day for everybody inside, for today was the day
- 0:20Speaker 1: when the babies would hatch. But this is a story
- 0:25Speaker 1: of someone special.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Meow My eyes burn. Why is it so dark in here? Wow!
- 0:37Speaker 1: This is the story of Maya the Bee. Come on,
- 0:43Speaker 1: bring them out. Hold your places now. You will be
- 0:50Speaker 1: named Maya.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Maya.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Maya. Wait, why, Maya? Why do we need names? Uh, I.
- 1:04Speaker 1: I wasn't told I will have questions to answer. But, well,
- 1:09Speaker 1: we all have names so that others can call out
- 1:12Speaker 1: to us. If I just say, you, B.
- 1:17Speaker 3: Huh?
- 1:17Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:18Speaker 5: What?
- 1:18Speaker 4: Are you talking to me?
- 1:21Speaker 1: Now you know why we need names.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:26Speaker 6: Because we are all same, but also different. That is
- 1:32Speaker 6: absolutely right. That is some good buzzing thought, Maya.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Come on, everyone. Follow me outside.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Wow!
- 1:45Speaker 1: Maya was in awe. It was like being inside a
- 1:48Speaker 1: shiny golden balloon. All the bees were busy with their work.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Some were cleaning the walls of the beehive. Some dropped
- 1:57Speaker 1: pollen into something that looked like a diamond. Some were
- 2:01Speaker 1: simply walking in a line. Well, now, you all will
- 2:06Speaker 1: be assigned work. The ones cleaning the walls are the cleaners.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Then we have the collector bees, the worker bees.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Why do we all have to work?
- 2:16Speaker 4: What kind of a bee are you? Bees don't ask questions.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Oh, don't be so rude, Julian.
- 2:24Speaker 2: She's just a child.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Maya, we have to work because if we don't, we
- 2:31Speaker 1: all will be very confused and useless. If the cleaners
- 2:35Speaker 1: don't clean, then the beehive will get dirty. If the
- 2:39Speaker 1: collector bees don't collect nectar... What is nectar? Honey is
- 2:44Speaker 1: made out of the nectar from the flowers.
- 2:47Speaker 3: There!
- 2:48Speaker 5: You see them?
- 2:49Speaker 1: They are the collector bees. They bring back nectar from
- 2:54Speaker 1: the flowers, and then the worker bees make honey out
- 2:58Speaker 1: of it.
- 2:59Speaker 7: The collector bees bring nectar from the flowers, but how
- 3:03Speaker 7: do they carry the nectar?
- 3:06Speaker 1: Oh, you sweet little child. In their honey stomach, of course.
- 3:12Speaker 2: We all have one. Oh, is that why I feel
- 3:16Speaker 2: hungry right now?
- 3:19Speaker 1: Oh, not at all. That's your food stomach.
- 3:25Speaker 8: If we keep entertaining her, we will be stuck here
- 3:28Speaker 8: all day.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Why can't we be standing here all day?
- 3:33Speaker 1: Days passed. All the newbies were given different jobs. Some
- 3:38Speaker 1: cleaned the beehive from the inside. Some cleared the dry
- 3:41Speaker 1: leaves outside. Some collected nectar from flowers. Some guarded the
- 3:46Speaker 1: hive against predators. Everyone had a fixed place. Except for Maya.
- 3:52Speaker 1: She always saw things differently. When everyone cleaned the walls
- 3:57Speaker 1: with their hands, she would just blow at the walls
- 4:00Speaker 1: and consider the work done. And when the bees would
- 4:03Speaker 1: walk in a line.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Why are you troubling me?
- 4:07Speaker 7: Oh, everyone is worried that I can't find my place.
- 4:12Speaker 7: So I am trying to see if I can walk
- 4:15Speaker 7: like you do.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Well, you are doing it absolutely wrong.
- 4:21Speaker 7: Um, but you are you and I am me. How
- 4:30Speaker 7: can I walk the way you do? Tell me, can
- 4:33Speaker 7: you walk like this?
- 4:35Speaker 3: Oh, of course I can.
- 4:40Speaker 6: See?
- 4:41Speaker 9: Oh, no.
- 4:41Speaker 3: What am I doing? You child are distracting me. What
- 4:48Speaker 3: kind of a bee are you? Oh no, I am
- 4:52Speaker 3: left behind.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Cassandra, the worker bee, and even the queen herself could
- 5:00Speaker 1: not place Maya anywhere. She would just look at everything
- 5:05Speaker 1: in awe and ask a lot of questions.
- 5:08Speaker 2: What's on your head, big bee?
- 5:13Speaker 3: You can't talk to the queen like that. I am
- 5:16Speaker 3: so sorry, your majesty.
- 5:21Speaker 5: Tell me, Maya, why can't you work where we want
- 5:25Speaker 5: you to?
- 5:27Speaker 7: Um, I don't know. Everybody here is always so busy.
- 5:34Speaker 7: They just work, work, work, work, work.
- 5:36Speaker 2: I don't feel happy when I see them.
- 5:40Speaker 7: But I felt happy that day when I fell from
- 5:42Speaker 7: that diamond thing.
- 5:44Speaker 1: And swoosh, and swoosh, I flew.
- 5:47Speaker 2: And round and round I went. My dream is to fly,
- 5:51Speaker 2: to go outside and see the world. Oh, my.
- 5:57Speaker 9: What is she blabbering about?
- 5:59Speaker 3: Dream? Happy?
- 6:02Speaker 1: What kind of a bee are you?
- 6:04Speaker 2: Bees don't dream.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Oh, your majesty, forgive me. She means no harm. I
- 6:12Speaker 1: have been trying to place her myself, but she keeps
- 6:15Speaker 1: talking about going out. Maybe that's what she really wants.
- 6:20Speaker 1: That is what she must be good at.
- 6:22Speaker 2: We can send her out to collect nectar.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Well.
- 6:27Speaker 9: Asking a bee what she wants to be, that's a first.
- 6:33Speaker 3: And also very confusing.
- 6:37Speaker 9: Bees' places are assigned as soon as they are hatched.
- 6:43Speaker 9: But if this is good for the beehive, so be it.
- 6:47Speaker 1: She is old enough to be sent out to collect nectar.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Train her well and let her out. Yes, your majesty.
- 6:58Speaker 1: And so, Maya was taught everything about flowers. She was
- 7:03Speaker 1: then trained to follow the swarm of bees. She was
- 7:07Speaker 1: warned repeatedly to never fly alone. And lastly, she was
- 7:12Speaker 1: warned about the hornets. The hornets were the sworn enemies
- 7:17Speaker 1: of the bees. They would always try to steal honey
- 7:20Speaker 1: and hurt the bees.
- 7:23Speaker 2: We can sting them if they hurt us, right?
- 7:28Speaker 1: The hornets are getting smarter, Maya. They wear armors every
- 7:32Speaker 1: time they attack us. Only their neck can be stung
- 7:37Speaker 1: as they don't wear helmets. But hardly any bee has
- 7:41Speaker 1: managed to sting a hornet in a war. You take
- 7:45Speaker 1: good care not to be found by them, okay?
- 7:49Speaker 2: I will take care.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Maya waved goodbye to Cassandra and left with the swarm.
- 7:55Speaker 1: This was her first trip outside the beehive. The moment
- 7:59Speaker 1: she stepped out, Maya was in awe. The trees, the ferns,
- 8:05Speaker 1: the flowers.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Oh, it's so beautiful out here. I could just buzz
- 8:12Speaker 2: here all day.
- 8:14Speaker 3: Shh.
- 8:15Speaker 1: We are here to work, Maya.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Not to just keep buzzing around.
- 8:19Speaker 8: Just make sure you are always around your swarm.
- 8:23Speaker 1: But Maya wasn't listening. She was busy enjoying her first flight.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Oh, what's that?
- 8:34Speaker 2: It's so shiny.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Oh, so sorry.
- 8:38Speaker 2: I didn't know there was someone there. Hi, I'm Maya
- 8:42Speaker 2: the bee. And you? Oh, you too look like a
- 8:47Speaker 2: bee to me.
- 8:47Speaker 7: And you are pretty lovely, I must say. Oh, wait.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Are you copying me? That's very mean of you. Oh,
- 8:58Speaker 2: you hurt me. You are being very rude.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Well, well, well. Look what we have here. A human
- 9:08Speaker 3: disguised as a bee. Dis... dis.
- 9:12Speaker 2: what?
- 9:14Speaker 3: Disguised. Meaning you are a human under the clothes of
- 9:19Speaker 3: a bee.
- 9:20Speaker 2: But I am a bee. I'm not a human. And
- 9:27Speaker 2: this is also a bee, but a very rude.
- 9:30Speaker 7: One at that.
- 9:31Speaker 3: That's your reflection, dummy. She is not being rude. You
- 9:37Speaker 3: are being rude to yourself. It's all in your head,
- 9:41Speaker 3: just like a human. Trust me, they themselves create most
- 9:45Speaker 3: of their problems. Anyhoo... What are you doing here?
- 9:51Speaker 1: Oh, I am being rude.
- 9:55Speaker 2: My name is Maya.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Maya the Bee! I know. I heard you when you
- 10:02Speaker 3: introduced yourself to yourself before.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Oh, right. Actually, I was out with my swarm to
- 10:11Speaker 2: collect honey.
- 10:13Speaker 3: Oh, no.
- 10:13Speaker 2: My swarm. I got away.
- 10:15Speaker 3: They're all gone. Wait a minute. You lost your way
- 10:19Speaker 3: while you were with your swarm? What kind of a
- 10:22Speaker 3: bee are you? What will you do now?
- 10:26Speaker 2: Oh, I don't know.
- 10:28Speaker 7: I will collect some nectar and find my way back home,
- 10:33Speaker 7: I guess.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Well, there is a good bunch of juicy flowers over
- 10:38Speaker 3: there you can try.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Aw, it's so kind of you to help me out.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Thank you, Mr.
- 10:45Speaker 4: Grasshopper.
- 10:46Speaker 3: The name is Hopper. Flip-hopper. Oh, of course.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Flip-hopper. Thank you.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Maya collected all honey she could and buzzed her way
- 10:59Speaker 1: back home. She flew through the tall trees and bushes,
- 11:04Speaker 1: and yet it was a long way to go.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Oh, I am tired. Maybe I can rest somewhere for
- 11:11Speaker 2: a while. I can keep flying later.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Just then, Little Maya was looking for a flower.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Let me go!
- 11:22Speaker 8: Let me go! Not so soon, you little bee. Queen
- 11:28Speaker 8: is going to be so happy with me.
- 11:30Speaker 4: Us!
- 11:31Speaker 3: Us! She is going to be so happy with us.
- 11:35Speaker 3: We found a cute little bee.
- 11:38Speaker 8: Don't call her cute, you idiot. She is our sworn enemy.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Oh, you were right. That little ugly bee with cute eyes.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Let's just go.
- 11:51Speaker 1: The hornets locked up Maya in a small room. Maya
- 11:55Speaker 1: was very scared and tried to run away, but failed.
- 12:00Speaker 2: What do I do now?
- 12:03Speaker 3: Shh!
- 12:06Speaker 8: This is a very secret plan, okay? Listen, we are
- 12:10Speaker 8: going to teach those bees a lesson tomorrow.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Oh, should I carry my red pen?
- 12:16Speaker 1: What?
- 12:17Speaker 3: No, not that lesson. We are going to attack their
- 12:20Speaker 3: beehive tomorrow. Be ready. Oh, what to do about the
- 12:27Speaker 3: one we caught?
- 12:28Speaker 8: We will see what to do about her tomorrow morning.
- 12:31Speaker 8: Come on now, let's go and help the guards.
- 12:35Speaker 1: The hornets were not aware that Maya was listening to
- 12:38Speaker 1: their plan.
- 12:39Speaker 7: No, they are going to attack my hive.
- 12:44Speaker 2: No, I cannot lose hope. I have to save my family.
- 12:49Speaker 1: That night, Maya could not sleep. She kept thinking of
- 12:53Speaker 1: what to do next.
- 12:55Speaker 2: How do I stop the hornets?
- 12:58Speaker 1: Only their neck can be stung as they don't wear helmets.
- 13:02Speaker 1: But hardly any bee has managed to sting a hornet
- 13:05Speaker 1: in a war.
- 13:07Speaker 9: Wait!
- 13:07Speaker 2: I've got it!
- 13:09Speaker 1: As the sun rose, the hornet came to Maya's room.
- 13:14Speaker 3: Hey, little bee! Wait! Where is she?
- 13:24Speaker 9: Ha!
- 13:26Speaker 2: That's what you get for calling me ugly! I have
- 13:29Speaker 2: to warn the queen!
- 13:31Speaker 1: Maya flew as fast as she could and reached her hive.
- 13:35Speaker 1: She narrated the whole incident to the queen.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Oh, no! Quickly, alert the guards. We have to stay prepared.
- 13:46Speaker 1: The hive was now ready for the attack. When the
- 13:49Speaker 1: hornets came, the bees attacked with full energy. They flew
- 13:53Speaker 1: from above and stung the hornets' necks. Maya had taught
- 13:57Speaker 1: the bees well. The hornets were all confused and dazed.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Fall back!
- 14:03Speaker 1: Fall back! They ran away in no time.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Yay! We won!
- 14:10Speaker 3: Where are you going, Hornet?
- 14:13Speaker 2: Bees are the best. Bees are the best. Bees are
- 14:16Speaker 2: the best.
- 14:18Speaker 1: We are all very thankful to you, Maya.
- 14:22Speaker 5: It's your bravery and intelligence that saved us today.
- 14:27Speaker 2: This is my home. I will do anything to protect it.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Ooh, my child. I am so proud of you.
- 14:38Speaker 5: Tell me, what do you want to become when you
- 14:41Speaker 5: grow up?
- 14:46Speaker 2: I want to be a teacher. I will tell all.
- 14:50Speaker 7: The bees about my experiences and teach them to be
- 14:54Speaker 7: their kind of bees.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Their kind of bees?
- 14:58Speaker 9: Yes.
- 14:59Speaker 3: Yes!
- 15:00Speaker 2: Everyone keeps asking me, what kind of a bee are you?
- 15:04Speaker 3: Well, I am.
- 15:07Speaker 2: My kind of bee. And so are all of us.
- 15:12Speaker 4: I want to be my kind of a bee, too.
- 15:16Speaker 4: Your kind of a bee is boring. Be my kind
- 15:19Speaker 4: of a bee.
- 15:22Speaker 5: Well, Maya, you are a good teacher for sure. And
- 15:27Speaker 5: we are happy to have you back.
