- 0:14Speaker 1: The quarter's gotta come through.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Save the fence outside and Gail's gotta be here.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Everybody see that Got control.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Everybody just do your job.
- 0:22Speaker 2: You better stand up.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Well, hey, welcome back into the North Florida Sports Network.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Time for an instant reaction.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Still a win.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Still a win, man.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Still a win.
- 0:36Speaker 2: That's a must-tie man.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Everybody do your job.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Yeah, it looks like some gap control is not in effect in the first half.
- 0:45Speaker 1: For any of the halves man.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm on.
- 0:49Speaker 2: I mean it, man.
- 0:51Speaker 2: It's one of those games where it didn't start out well at all, but we thought FSU was gonna get it together, nah, and then kind of lazy lazy golf afternoon.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, you know, they got up 31.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Corner comes through 31 to 10, and it's like they just that was ugly man.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Yeah, it was Still a win, but it's still a win.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Yeah, right.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Let's react to it.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Immediate reaction.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Yes, Immediate reaction.
- 1:28Speaker 2: I mean it's got.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Worst offense has looked since Jacksonville State in terms of Wow play calling.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Yeah, like just what the hell are we doing?
- 1:37Speaker 1: Wow, you know, and it's a mixed bag, like you said it's You're watching the game.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Some of it is very clearly is Travis.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:52Speaker 1: And then some of the play calling is just like dude, what are we doing, man?
- 1:55Speaker 1: End it around with Keon Coleman on third and two.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Do we have to do that to get to yards at a crucial point in the game?
- 2:03Speaker 1: I understand that he's a guy, that's a dangerous weapon, but this is third and two and you got to keep the clock moving Right.
- 2:11Speaker 1: This is why you got these.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Every time I see Jaheem Bell get the ball, I wonder why he's not getting the ball more.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Yeah, he easily probably could have had over 200 yards today and just I get it, though.
- 2:27Speaker 2: It seemed like one of I think it was the.
- 2:30Speaker 2: My first reaction was the scoop and score man we talked about it last game we were talking about big momentum shifts in the pick six.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Good God, man, that's scoop and score and I and just lose.
- 2:43Speaker 2: You got to tip your hat.
- 2:44Speaker 1: That's the game man yeah, and you can't overlook the fact that the defense had just held them on a fourth Down the drive before Right.
- 2:51Speaker 1: They had marched, they had got down the field, but they stood tough and they kept them out of the end zone on fourth down.
- 2:56Speaker 1: And it's like dude, I agree with you, man Like after that it was anybody's game.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Well, yeah, there was good and bad.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Like there, there's very bad.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Boston College is a very, very undisciplined game, right, very bad.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I mean, you saw how many penalties?
- 3:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't.
- 3:16Speaker 2: I thought I was in the twilight zone.
- 3:17Speaker 2: They were calling holding against Florida State defenders.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Yeah, and what was?
- 3:22Speaker 2: They ended up with almost 20 penalties.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Yeah, and it was.
- 3:25Speaker 1: You know, like I said, man, 31 years of terrible calls getting made up for in one game and it.
- 3:32Speaker 1: But, like you said, some of them were obvious, some of them were obvious.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Some of them, you know, but again you know there was a considerable amount of holding.
- 3:41Speaker 1: I'm going to say each way, but just back to the point.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Well, first of all, you got to give credit to Thomas Castellanos.
- 3:51Speaker 2: I mean you told yeah.
- 3:52Speaker 2: You were telling us that FSU actually recruited him as a receiver, and you could see why Kind of an athlete I?
- 3:59Speaker 2: Mean but that Can you imagine?
- 4:01Speaker 2: Being recruited at receiver, being wanting to play in quarterback your whole life?
- 4:05Speaker 2: And then playing against the team that you probably wanted to go play quarterback at, but they were like no, we want you at receiver.
- 4:11Speaker 2: So it looked like he was getting he's definitely he played with an inspired.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Inspired effort.
- 4:17Speaker 2: You were getting that told it's red bandana day.
- 4:20Speaker 2: You had that kind of.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:23Speaker 2: And what you saw was them come out and do that and him play inspired.
- 4:27Speaker 2: But you saw a response that was okay, we see you, we're going to continue to do that.
- 4:33Speaker 2: And then, almost like in a microcosm of the season, the way they, like you were just saying 31-10, what happened.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean you find yourself up 31-10.
- 4:42Speaker 1: What did they?
- 4:43Speaker 1: They scored two touchdowns in like 68 seconds on the second half.
- 4:48Speaker 1: They're up 31-10.
- 4:49Speaker 1: They got the ball first and 10 at midfield.
- 4:51Speaker 1: You know you 100und呃.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Maybe midway through the third quarter, probably more time on the clock, plenty of time left to continue to do.
- 5:00Speaker 1: What you thought we were gonna do is just score again and kind of dominate things.
- 5:05Speaker 1: From that point I don't really know where we can pinpoint where the track, you know train, kind of fell off the tracks.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Man I don't, it just went haywire To not score again, to watch them score 19 unanswered points.
- 5:19Speaker 1: They're gonna be like eek out of there with a victory.
- 5:22Speaker 2: That's well you mentioned maybe just not having that sense of desperation.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Yeah, because, when it seemed like, oh my, oh, my God, this game's on the damn line.
- 5:34Speaker 2: It looked like they came to play.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Yeah, but they better not do that.
- 5:39Speaker 1: I do that next Saturday they're gonna get there.
- 5:41Speaker 1: They're gonna ask that they're gonna.
- 5:43Speaker 1: It won't be a game If, if that's the level of play they bring in to Clemson next week.
- 5:48Speaker 1: I don't care how much trouble.
- 5:50Speaker 2: it's struggled, yeah, but it is such an emotional game and the lack of the having a dominance, and it really showed me that the difference between being a top team and being just like a middle of the cheer team, you got to bring it and there's not.
- 6:08Speaker 2: You don't have those three deep, yeah, like you did it back in the day.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Yeah, and I mean you know Jordan Travis, he definitely took a shot, oh, my goodness, he's, he's, you know, he's definitely banged up.
- 6:20Speaker 2: I was getting flashbacks.
- 6:21Speaker 2: It's always when you fall down, and he fell down on that elbow and his left elbow and it looked.
- 6:26Speaker 2: It looked like it could be anything.
- 6:28Speaker 2: My thought was he sprained his shoulder.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Maybe a high I mean, yeah, it's definitely in that shoulder area when you look at the replay and the impact that, like that was the impacts on there, the shoulder girdle.
- 6:42Speaker 1: I just you know he came out through probably what were his two best passes of the game, and early in the second half.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Yeah, he did, but he's tough man.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Yeah, he's tough, he really is.
- 6:55Speaker 2: He's a tough son of a gun man, that did not look it, looked like it, looked like it hurt, like shit.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Yeah, and it come without question, man, yeah.
- 7:04Speaker 1: And I can't imagine I was like oh my God, I hope it's not I hope he didn't break his collarbone.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Yeah maybe he's probably separated his shoulder a little bit.
- 7:14Speaker 2: I mean definitely the way, the impact of it.
- 7:17Speaker 2: And then I was texting my doctor friend like making sure you know, like I'm like what I mean just so many things over the half I was doing, I'm trying to like how much was going into that because but I'll tell- you one thing.
- 7:31Speaker 2: He's tough.
- 7:32Speaker 2: What were you going to say?
- 7:33Speaker 2: He is tough.
- 7:34Speaker 1: He is tough and you know he bounced back, he made some throws, they got up, he missed some throws today on some decisions that were, once again, you know, he chose not to take what was there in terms of you know now I'm going to go a little bit for the home run Right.
- 7:51Speaker 1: And he missed the throws.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Right when you, when you're saying like, hey, get the eight yards if they're giving it to you.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Get the move the chains keep it rolling.
- 8:01Speaker 1: And one of them was on a on a late third down, third and three.
- 8:05Speaker 1: You know we needed to bleed clock.
- 8:07Speaker 1: If we can't get the first down, at least keep the clock moving.
- 8:10Speaker 1: And not only did he not throw it to Toa Fili right there in the flat, that would have got the first down.
- 8:16Speaker 1: You know it was a bad throw to.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Wilson stops the clock, everything like that and that kind of ties into play calling.
- 8:23Speaker 1: You know, like that, now you got a question to play calling.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Everybody is going to say why don't you just run the ball?
- 8:27Speaker 1: Things like that.
- 8:29Speaker 1: And it's just the offense not being sharp, not being on the same page for whatever reason, johnny Wilson played incredibly today.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Him and Jehebel.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Those were four catches, two guys out there giving their jobs, Johnny Wilson, you know a big, a big game for him, in particular coming off zero catches in the last game.
- 8:47Speaker 2: That was a really good positive to see him.
- 8:50Speaker 2: He shows what his potential is.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:54Speaker 2: I mean, he is an absolute freak of an athlete.
- 8:56Speaker 2: His wingspan is unlike any other in the game right now.
- 9:01Speaker 1: So over the, over the middle, he is almost money every time.
- 9:08Speaker 2: It's a mental game.
- 9:09Speaker 2: It really matters how they're not.
- 9:10Speaker 2: He pulls out a mental of a game.
- 9:11Speaker 2: It is yeah, and it's almost like Norvell knew this game was going to, knew there was going to be some, some adversity here and I think, like all seminal fans thought that adversity was met In the second half, when they were up 31 10, you're sitting right there.
- 9:30Speaker 1: I think that was, and that's man.
- 9:33Speaker 1: You haven't seen the team really have the bad bounces like that in a while and they had some bad bounces.
- 9:39Speaker 1: You know, benson, on the on the kickoff.
- 9:41Speaker 1: You know I Toa feelie.
- 9:44Speaker 1: The ball just looks like this.
- 9:45Speaker 1: You know grim reaper comes in and just pulls it out of his hands.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Yeah, it's, that can happen when we let him hang around stuff like that and it it was in a red bandana game.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Yeah, let's not sleep on that.
- 9:57Speaker 2: You know that there.
- 9:59Speaker 1: And I mean, you know they won the game.
- 10:02Speaker 1: It's still a win.
- 10:03Speaker 1: What's concerning is that they didn't put any points on the board in the second half.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Yeah that that's you know.
- 10:12Speaker 1: You're gonna play offenses way, way better than BC.
- 10:16Speaker 1: They're not gonna have nine procedure penalties.
- 10:18Speaker 2: You didn't, you mean they didn't, they didn't score in the Fourth quarter like after you had it 31 to 10.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:26Speaker 1: It?
- 10:26Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 10:27Speaker 1: I mean, I want to say that this is the one to see the offense finish the game.
- 10:32Speaker 2: They didn't finish the game like they like.
- 10:34Speaker 2: You want to see a team finish the game and that's on both sides.
- 10:37Speaker 1: They have, when they, when they have the clear opportunity, you know like they're, it's right there.
- 10:42Speaker 2: You know I will say but man, I'm telling you right now, I don't think you're ever gonna see that quarterback for them play a better.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Oh, he's playing out of his mind.
- 10:51Speaker 2: You look at the circumstances.
- 10:52Speaker 2: If he does, they're gonna be yeah if he plays like that every and that's where Florida State got beat in the first half was just a scrambling ability by him and his Determination yeah, he made him look stupid in the first half.
- 11:04Speaker 1: I was the difference in the first half and then you know, second half, he, uh, and they, they, they stuck around.
- 11:10Speaker 1: He did enough for them to stick around and then he made some, just right, ridiculous, throws on the run.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Yep, you know, I don't offense.
- 11:20Speaker 2: I thought the offense in the first half looked great.
- 11:22Speaker 2: I thought it looked.
- 11:23Speaker 2: It ran like a machine, I thought they.
- 11:25Speaker 2: But it was limited in possessions.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Yeah, it moved the ball.
- 11:31Speaker 1: It did, it did.
- 11:32Speaker 1: It looked like whenever they they're like okay, we, now we're gonna move the ball and score like they did times.
- 11:37Speaker 2: You need that, but you need to stick with that.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Yeah and keep.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Pressing that button.
- 11:42Speaker 1: I don't know if it's if we've reached the problem yet, but I think there's a bit of, you know, conscious effort to make sure everybody's getting touches Well that was something that you would and sometimes that's just not gonna happen.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Yeah coming into the years like there's only one ball.
- 11:59Speaker 1: I'm looking at the key on Coleman usage.
- 12:01Speaker 1: You know, some of the the plays designed for him today looked like it kind of felt like they're trying to force it to him.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Well, I think that's no.
- 12:10Speaker 2: I mean, I yeah and I think you need to.
- 12:12Speaker 2: I think it's about showing a game plan that you can have.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Hey, you need to look out for this guy, and it's just a setting the.
- 12:20Speaker 1: I get that I was a little bit of a chess Playing.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Maybe you might have given away too much.
- 12:24Speaker 2: You need to simplify it and get that win first.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Yeah, or you do these type of plays.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Yeah, what I'm, what I'm saying, it ultimately, like my thing is, does.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Do we necessarily need to run an end around With him on third and two, when it's a crucial third down to pick up?
- 12:39Speaker 2: right Like where's the Efficient?
- 12:42Speaker 1: either like we build the office in line to be a hembel option.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Yeah, where you can run it with Jordan Travis, where because he's clearly most effective when he's on the run- yeah, I know the ability he has to run the football and the ability he showed early in his career to Change games, running the football is in the back of all defensive coordinators mind.
- 13:04Speaker 2: And his ability to improve as a passer.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Yeah was his, is his kryptonite here.
- 13:10Speaker 1: But you cannot Lose what has scared the defenses in the first place, which was the running ability run threat and you saw that in the first half they were running the ball with him.
- 13:23Speaker 1: He's improved dramatically on his decision-making in that read yeah and that read option game.
- 13:29Speaker 1: So, yeah, there could be a day he did it again today, picking up a couple first downs that were like, dude, if it, if you had any of our other quarterbacks in there, that was a blown-up play.
- 13:38Speaker 1: I mean, it Is just such a mixed bag.
- 13:42Speaker 1: You're glad it's still a win man, but it was there was.
- 13:45Speaker 1: There was some ugliness in it.
- 13:47Speaker 2: I mean, this is a game that was with four touchdown.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Favorite, like I haven't been, I haven't been cussing in cussing at Mike Norvell on the on TV for a while.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Yeah, since you know a couple, I think it's one of those things where that's things can snowball.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Yeah and then you saw the ultimate snowball kind of play in the momentum shift when that scooping score.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Yeah, that was, that was huge and it, and then when you have a rampant red bandana game.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Yeah, the red man, that's.
- 14:15Speaker 2: that's man they remind me of the cancer game.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm certainly not trying to know.
- 14:21Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no, no, not at all, I would be thrilled.
- 14:23Speaker 2: I don't know just saying you have that's when you have to bring respect, that by bringing your a game, because let you let always.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Is it always?
- 14:32Speaker 2: You're gonna get your best effort in Boston College.
- 14:35Speaker 2: I mean damn, they had a lot of penalties.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Yeah they were fired up.
- 14:40Speaker 1: They're fired up.
- 14:40Speaker 1: They were fired up.
- 14:41Speaker 2: They were.
- 14:42Speaker 2: They were nervous, but it was a huge game for them.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Yeah, you could tell it was their season.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Casalana's cadence was was giving them problems.
- 14:50Speaker 1: There was something he was doing pre-snap in the first half.
- 14:53Speaker 1: That was just throwing them off, that, yeah, and it killed him.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Well, that makes sense being that the Of what his history is and who he's playing, and the emotional, the emotional feeling that that team was had Kind of like.
- 15:08Speaker 2: It's kind of how the game were played they were ready to play and they're ready to fight almost too much.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Almost too much.
- 15:16Speaker 1: You could see that with the penalties and I mean dude, I'm serious if that kid plays like that the rest of the season.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Yeah they're not gonna get 20 penalties every game.
- 15:25Speaker 1: No they might actually be like right that gets people.
- 15:29Speaker 2: I Can't believe, I don't.
- 15:32Speaker 1: I don't know if he's gonna play at that level for the right, it seemed like an inspired effort.
- 15:36Speaker 2: It really did, and when you told me that he was recruited by Florida State yeah, now.
- 15:40Speaker 2: We'll see what out.
- 15:41Speaker 1: for one thing he's not gonna he's not gonna get to play against team that struggled to tackle mobile quarterbacks like Florida State does still.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Still, that's another thing.
- 15:51Speaker 1: That that's Actually my biggest gripe of the game is the tackling was just awful.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Well, this is another, but hey, you know, I guess yeah it's still a win.
- 16:02Speaker 2: It's still a win, man.
- 16:03Speaker 2: It was ugly.
- 16:04Speaker 2: It was ugly and there it could have been.
- 16:06Speaker 2: There was times where they had the ball First down and range the score down to.
- 16:13Speaker 2: The defense stood up.
- 16:14Speaker 1: I want to believe that the reason the middle of the field was open so much is because it came, then it was out, and Kevin Knowles is just not that guy definitely wouldn't, mind seeing some of it, some of the the Hussie.
- 16:26Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 16:27Speaker 2: I mean, this is we'll find out, yeah we'll see man it isn't yeah, want to know in the ACC they want to know.
- 16:34Speaker 2: In the ACC you got to clean it up because you never know when Someone's gonna put a head on the ball and get a scuba and score, or one mistake away from having a pick six.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Yeah, anything like that guy pulls a hammy, a Big, long score.
- 16:49Speaker 1: God, that was ugly.
- 16:52Speaker 1: We had to go.
- 16:53Speaker 1: There were some bright moments, though.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Man Jaheem Bell yes, should have had two touchdowns.
- 16:58Speaker 1: That was a touchdown.
- 16:59Speaker 2: This seems like a fierce weapon.
- 17:01Speaker 2: I think it was described really well in the game and he looks like an oversized receiver who runs like a running back.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Yeah, he's that dude that just like I'll play anywhere you want man.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm going to play wide receiver and defensive tackle.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Simplify it, you know, go with what works.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Dj Lundy played really well.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Yeah, got himself a touchdown.
- 17:21Speaker 1: He looks a lot better this season overall.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot, faster man A lot faster.
- 17:26Speaker 1: That's good man, that's good man.
- 17:29Speaker 2: I mean you got to get out with the win in your 3-0.
- 17:34Speaker 1: I mean he was the only one that could crash down on that running back for Boston College Right, like if it was anybody else.
- 17:40Speaker 1: They were getting five yards of clip.
- 17:41Speaker 1: He thumped them a couple of times and that was it.
- 17:46Speaker 2: But what happened though?
- 17:48Speaker 2: I mean what happened, Jeff.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Haffley is a really good coach.
- 17:52Speaker 2: He's got to yeah, he is.
- 17:54Speaker 1: He's a good coach.
- 17:55Speaker 2: He doesn't have, he doesn't get it yeah coordinator.
- 17:56Speaker 1: I'm not talking about head coach, Talking about a turn making adjustments at half-time, stuff like that.
- 18:01Speaker 2: And when you see what happens when you take your foot off the gas and you're not playing devoted and the attention span really was what was on display.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Yeah, that was.
- 18:11Speaker 1: That was cool.
- 18:12Speaker 2: The emotional attention span that happens in these games.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Yeah, it just seemed like I can't, but Boston College with a had had a spirited effort.
- 18:25Speaker 2: I saw the coach.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Haffley gave Norvel Red Bandana after the game.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Yeah, man, I think it was that Typically capped.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it was just saying you have a great team, we gave you everything we had.
- 18:36Speaker 1: And we almost could have beat you.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Yeah Well, I mean All bounces a couple of different ways.
