- 0:02Speaker 1: Radio Radio Radio Commies a Myth and Bullshit, a radiophonic
- 0:16Speaker 1: novella Local Radio hosted by Malamn. Hello, Hello, Hello, Loca Morres,
- 0:24Speaker 1: Welcome to the season three finale of Local Radios. Because
- 0:30Speaker 1: fem revenge has never sounded so sweet. Local Radio is
- 0:34Speaker 1: a radiophonic novella archiving the brilliance and legacies of women
- 0:38Speaker 1: and fems of color. I'm Theosa and I'm Mala, and
- 0:42Speaker 1: we are Las Mammy's of Myth and Bullshit, Las Locas
- 0:45Speaker 1: of Radio, a radiophonic novella, which is just a really
- 0:49Speaker 1: extra way of saying a podcast. I can't believe it's
- 0:54Speaker 1: the season finale, same girl? What what is almost over
- 1:00Speaker 1: a year? Honestly, thank goddess. I'm ready for this year
- 1:04Speaker 1: to be over, y'all. Like I'm exhausted. I like, you know,
- 1:08Speaker 1: I know that the holidays that are important because you
- 1:10Speaker 1: spend time with family, blah blah blah blah blah, all
- 1:13Speaker 1: that stuff. But I'm honestly ready for Like, I just
- 1:17Speaker 1: don't have energy or anything left to give to So
- 1:22Speaker 1: I'm ready for the new decade. I mean, the new year.
- 1:25Speaker 1: I feel you're also entering a new decade. Truly, I
- 1:28Speaker 1: feel you. I feel like I'm just crawling to the
- 1:31Speaker 1: end of the decade. What was that mean that you
- 1:32Speaker 1: posted or that video? Oh my god, So I came
- 1:37Speaker 1: across this video on Twitter and it's like a little
- 1:41Speaker 1: tiny boy trying to like take out the trash and
- 1:44Speaker 1: the trash can just kicks his ass and it just
- 1:48Speaker 1: keeps hitting him on the head the lid and it
- 1:51Speaker 1: falls over and he goes rolling, but he keeps trying
- 1:53Speaker 1: to get up and push it. And I said, this
- 1:55Speaker 1: is me dragging myself to the end of the decade.
- 1:58Speaker 1: And it's true, accurate, it's accurate, accurate. Yeah, it's been
- 2:03Speaker 1: one hell of a year. Like look wise, we've seen
- 2:08Speaker 1: so much growth in our personal lives, work wise, like
- 2:13Speaker 1: all around, it's been one hell of a year for
- 2:16Speaker 1: beliter or for worse. We are still standing. One hell
- 2:19Speaker 1: of a decade. Ye, one hell of a decade. I mean,
- 2:22Speaker 1: we can talk through all the things that podcast wise
- 2:25Speaker 1: we've done an experienced in, but we can also reflect on,
- 2:30Speaker 1: like personally, what we've done and been through since two
- 2:34Speaker 1: thousand ten. Yes, girl, But before we get to that,
- 2:37Speaker 1: we want to do a quick little recap. It has
- 2:41Speaker 1: been a hot minute since we've recorded a live episode
- 2:45Speaker 1: for y'all, and we've done so much since our last
- 2:49Speaker 1: episodes that have been released, if you haven't tuned into
- 2:53Speaker 1: our live Wing Conversation or live conversation with Sizzle and
- 2:57Speaker 1: Norms fromon at the Wing, to a into that on
- 3:01Speaker 1: whatever streaming platform you choose. Um. But we also had
- 3:06Speaker 1: our Look at That Alive a podcast party, yes, that
- 3:09Speaker 1: went off recently at the Paramount and Boil Hids. And
- 3:12Speaker 1: if you don't know about the Paramount, it's a very
- 3:14Speaker 1: historic music venue and boil Hids like Stevie Wonder performed
- 3:18Speaker 1: there back in the day, like everybody everybody, And if
- 3:23Speaker 1: you walk in, you know, the main entrance, they have
- 3:25Speaker 1: lining the walls black and white photos of some of
- 3:29Speaker 1: the greatest like artists ever you know who made their
- 3:32Speaker 1: way and passed through the Paramount on their way, you know,
- 3:35Speaker 1: and performed. And it was funny because I think that
- 3:39Speaker 1: the venue has been closed for some time and they
- 3:41Speaker 1: just reopened this year. So we were like really lucky
- 3:44Speaker 1: to be able to have our event there because the
- 3:46Speaker 1: space is beautiful, it's brand new, it's historic. Yeah, and
- 3:50Speaker 1: I mean they're they're already booked like they have lots
- 3:52Speaker 1: of events and lots of programming, but I can already
- 3:55Speaker 1: foresee that it's going to be hard to have an
- 3:57Speaker 1: event there in the future because they're going to be
- 3:59Speaker 1: still booked. Um. And it's such a beautiful space. If
- 4:02Speaker 1: you were there, thank you so much for coming out.
- 4:05Speaker 1: It was an incredible night. We debuted our short film,
- 4:10Speaker 1: Locate Us Anonymous. We had a Q and A with
- 4:13Speaker 1: some of the UH some of the cast and crew,
- 4:17Speaker 1: and we had a party. And we had three DJs
- 4:20Speaker 1: this time, and we had DJ Sizzle Shout Out and
- 4:24Speaker 1: DJ Sty and Funky Caramelo Our Faves, our Face Yes,
- 4:29Speaker 1: and Fanky Caramelo. Actually, um, I have no words. Put
- 4:34Speaker 1: a mix together based on the music she played for
- 4:37Speaker 1: us that night, So we will meet that in this
- 4:40Speaker 1: Our DJs are too good to us. We don't deserve.
- 4:44Speaker 1: We don't and our luck on mothers who showed up
- 4:46Speaker 1: and those who have come to every look, I thought, alive,
- 4:49Speaker 1: we see you, we love you, we acknowledge you, Thank
- 4:51Speaker 1: you for supporting us. Our parents were there. Um, you know,
- 4:54Speaker 1: we showed our short we we did a viewing of
- 4:57Speaker 1: our short film and it was a lot of fun
- 4:59Speaker 1: and ethical Punk was on our panel, Ethical Punk. He
- 5:03Speaker 1: was also in the cast. The Trappic Got This participated,
- 5:06Speaker 1: Um Hobby who produced the film, Chovin Michelle who like
- 5:11Speaker 1: did directing and editing and sound and everything camera work,
- 5:16Speaker 1: and they were there. Everyone was there. Thank you to y'all.
- 5:20Speaker 1: And we also had Spectrum news coverage which was super
- 5:25Speaker 1: cool and like yeah, some nice press to end. I
- 5:30Speaker 1: think that was our first like local on air news feature.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Thank you Timothy Parker who was the journalist who hit
- 5:40Speaker 1: us up um and we were already in talks with
- 5:42Speaker 1: Timothy Parker for like almost a year before we actually
- 5:46Speaker 1: were able to do something with him. So thanks for
- 5:48Speaker 1: coming out. And we have an event coming up. It's
- 5:53Speaker 1: an event that we're going to be participating in, our
- 5:55Speaker 1: last event of We will be doing a live cast episode,
- 6:01Speaker 1: a live show, live recording if you will, at Moheada's Market,
- 6:06Speaker 1: the Mega Moheada's Market that's will be so we're actually
- 6:10Speaker 1: gonna be hearing from Monica and Gloria of Mohetda's Market.

- 7:30Speaker 1: is wild because it was very wild then, so we're
- 7:34Speaker 1: going to take it up yet another notch. We are
- 7:37Speaker 1: expecting about a hundred vendors and all of our vendors
- 7:41Speaker 1: are women of color or queer, trans people of color,

- 9:10Speaker 1: Um you know, Candy doesn't really talk to a lot
- 9:12Speaker 1: of people, so I'm also excited to hear what Candy
- 9:15Speaker 1: is gonna tell us. She has a fascinating journey. Even
- 9:18Speaker 1: in just last you know years, she's grown so much,
- 9:21Speaker 1: so I think it's going to be super cute and
- 9:22Speaker 1: super exciting. Also, yes, um Yessica will be there, so
- 9:28Speaker 1: it's gonna be like low key high key the ultimate

- 10:36Speaker 1: today and we're excited or call it and sh um.
- 11:25Speaker 1: We wanted to just spend this episode just having fun
- 11:28Speaker 1: and just enjoying ourselves and talking about nineteen in review,
- 11:33Speaker 1: what we've been up to since two thousand ten, even personally,
- 11:36Speaker 1: because before the podcast we had lives, we had lives
- 11:40Speaker 1: with our government names. We don't have lives anymore. We don't,
- 11:44Speaker 1: but we're going to reminisce on the lives that were
- 11:48Speaker 1: join us. So we were thinking, like we asked ourselves, Okay, mama,
- 11:52Speaker 1: what were you doing in like at the beginning of
- 11:54Speaker 1: the decade. And so, MoMA, what were you doing at
- 11:57Speaker 1: the beginning of the decade? And wow, I graduated from
- 12:03Speaker 1: high school in two thousand ten. So I was being
- 12:06Speaker 1: a hot mess in high school and then packing myself
- 12:09Speaker 1: up so I could be a hot mess in Massachusetts.
- 12:12Speaker 1: And I started college in So I moved myself UM
- 12:16Speaker 1: to Tufts and I moved into the dorms and and
- 12:21Speaker 1: then everything began. And then all the debauchery, all the insanity,
- 12:25Speaker 1: all the wild times, made new friends, UM, traveled, studied abroad,
- 12:29Speaker 1: learned some things, UM, made messes, lost my virginity, caught
- 12:34Speaker 1: some bodies, you know. I had some internships, grew academically,
- 12:39Speaker 1: but also just kind of. I had lots of adventuresn't
- 12:44Speaker 1: many good times, many many good times, many occasions where
- 12:47Speaker 1: I should have been dead after UM. But it's true,
- 12:52Speaker 1: I've just done. I've just been in so many situations
- 12:55Speaker 1: which I've had so many experiences. I look back and
- 12:57Speaker 1: I'm like, bitch, what the funk? Where you do? Wing?
- 13:01Speaker 1: What were you thinking? But I'm alive and it's all good.
- 13:07Speaker 1: I lived to tell all the tales, the ones I
- 13:08Speaker 1: can remember. So and here we are and now it's
- 13:12Speaker 1: about and how about you? Where were you in two? Okay?
- 13:16Speaker 1: So the first thing that comes to mind is that
- 13:19Speaker 1: in I was a hot mess in high school because
- 13:22Speaker 1: I had just come out to my parents and so
- 13:25Speaker 1: I remember being the absolute worst year because my parents
- 13:30Speaker 1: just they had a really hard time with it. Um,
- 13:34Speaker 1: and I like, I'm pretty sure I've shared this story
- 13:37Speaker 1: already on the podcast, like on an earlier episode, but
- 13:40Speaker 1: just to recap to the trauma remind to the new listeners. Um, So,
- 13:47Speaker 1: my mom went through my phone and that's how that's
- 13:50Speaker 1: how she came to the conclusion that I had a
- 13:54Speaker 1: girlfriend that was my friend, that would come over and
- 13:57Speaker 1: would sleep over. And I mean she was my friend,
- 13:59Speaker 1: you know, she was my best friend, and that's like
- 14:01Speaker 1: we were best friends and then we started dating, right,
- 14:03Speaker 1: lovers and friends. It's a it's a thing. And so
- 14:07Speaker 1: she saw she read some text messages and that is
- 14:12Speaker 1: how she found out. So I wasn't. I wasn't ready
- 14:15Speaker 1: to be out, you know, I wasn't ready to have
- 14:17Speaker 1: that conversation, but I was forced into it. So that's
- 14:20Speaker 1: like what I can think of when I think back
- 14:22Speaker 1: on and then in I graduated and then moved away.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Um too, I went to U see Santa Barbara, and
- 14:29Speaker 1: then same like, I wasn't really a party girl though,
- 14:32Speaker 1: even though I did go to Santa Barbara, which has
- 14:35Speaker 1: that fama of being a party school, Definitely, I definitely wasn't.
- 14:39Speaker 1: I wasn't a party girl. I would say my senior
- 14:41Speaker 1: year once I turned twenty one is when she got wild,
- 14:43Speaker 1: Like I was the same thing, hot mess, Like what
- 14:47Speaker 1: what was I doing out? I was out and about
- 14:52Speaker 1: in the worst ways, you know. I looked back and
- 14:55Speaker 1: I'm like, fuck, yeahs trauma bonding with everybody. Yeah, we're
- 15:04Speaker 1: not talking about that. We'll leave that where it needs
- 15:07Speaker 1: to stay. Yes, so we're not doing that and on.
- 15:13Speaker 1: But I also like, same as you, I studied abroad.
- 15:17Speaker 1: I lived in Bedou for six months and that was
- 15:21Speaker 1: an amazing experience and it's been I haven't been to
- 15:24Speaker 1: Bedu since, which is when I studied abroad and So
- 15:28Speaker 1: I'm currently like in the midst of trying to plan
- 15:31Speaker 1: a trip in because I haven't been back. I want
- 15:34Speaker 1: to see my family that are there. I want to
- 15:36Speaker 1: do some new traveling. I want to do some you know,
- 15:40Speaker 1: there were some things that I left, that left that
- 15:42Speaker 1: I left unfinished in Bedu, and I want to go
- 15:45Speaker 1: back and you know, heal some things that I need
- 15:48Speaker 1: to heal and like do those kinds of things. So
- 15:51Speaker 1: I'm excited for this new decade. You know, I think
- 15:54Speaker 1: I saw like, um many versions of myself this past decade,
- 16:00Speaker 1: you know, like being a hot mess, being lost, being confused,
- 16:06Speaker 1: being in bad relationships, being the bad person in the relationship,
- 16:10Speaker 1: you know, all those kinds of things. So, um, I
- 16:13Speaker 1: guess in some I'm thankful for therapy and that I entered,
- 16:19Speaker 1: that I did, that I started that in. So I
- 16:23Speaker 1: feel like I'm ready to leave the decade and like
- 16:26Speaker 1: did some you know, something's happened, but I'm ready to
- 16:29Speaker 1: leave that behind and like all that Absolutely that's a
- 16:33Speaker 1: beautiful thing. You know. Like I think, just like every
- 16:36Speaker 1: New Year's there's this question that comes around what are
- 16:39Speaker 1: we taking with us and what are we leaving behind?
- 16:42Speaker 1: And um, I think therapy is a great thing to
- 16:44Speaker 1: take that will definitely stay with me. Yeah, you know,
- 16:49Speaker 1: my therapist is the only white woman I've ever loved
- 16:52Speaker 1: saying something. Yeah, she asked me, Um, a couple of
- 16:57Speaker 1: weeks ago, she like, we had this very honest conversation
- 17:00Speaker 1: Asian as to why I didn't pick a Latina therapist.
- 17:03Speaker 1: And I was telling her like, you know, at the time, Um,
- 17:06Speaker 1: I wasn't seeing Latina therapist, like I went even like
- 17:09Speaker 1: on an open path where the directory that I was
- 17:12Speaker 1: able to find her on I didn't. I wasn't seeing
- 17:14Speaker 1: any Latino therapist and not in my area. And my
- 17:18Speaker 1: therapist has bright colored hair, like literally like dyed orange.
- 17:22Speaker 1: So when I saw her picture, I was like, this
- 17:24Speaker 1: Oneman is questionably queer. Like for me, that was like
- 17:27Speaker 1: a queer flag, like seeing this really bright hair. So
- 17:31Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, she's a white woman. However she's
- 17:34Speaker 1: questionably queer to me, and her scope of you know,
- 17:38Speaker 1: study and what she works on matched with me and
- 17:41Speaker 1: what I needed. So and that's what matters. That's that's
- 17:46Speaker 1: what's most important, right, Yes, So in conclusion, I'm ready
- 17:53Speaker 1: for a new decade. Yeah, I feel like this new Year's.
- 17:56Speaker 1: I don't know this, you know, impending New Year's. I
- 18:00Speaker 1: just feel more grown than I've ever felt. I feel
- 18:02Speaker 1: more adult than I've ever felt. And I also noticed
- 18:06Speaker 1: that I'm like way less here for the bullshit. Who
- 18:10Speaker 1: has the energy? No nobody, And I'm grateful to be
- 18:12Speaker 1: entering another New Year's single girl, super single, but in
- 18:17Speaker 1: like the best way. I have no regrets. It's like
- 18:21Speaker 1: I feel, I feel good. You've also been like intentionally single.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Hell yet you know because you're not like keep it
- 18:29Speaker 1: away from me. Yeah you're not. Because there are folks
- 18:32Speaker 1: that are like single but dating and looking and out there,
- 18:34Speaker 1: and then there are folks that are like, I'm comfortable,
- 18:37Speaker 1: I'm happy with the single and I'm not necessarily looking absolutely,
- 18:42Speaker 1: and I'm not necessarily looking. I'm not looking. I am
- 18:45Speaker 1: not looking. That doesn't mean I haven't caught several bodies,
- 18:49Speaker 1: because even just in the past two weeks, I mean
- 18:51Speaker 1: we we do well. I've done very well for myself,
- 18:55Speaker 1: which is also why I'm not like yearning, because I
- 18:59Speaker 1: have no needs. You know, all my needs get met
- 19:03Speaker 1: and um, I have a dog, so I have a companion,
- 19:09Speaker 1: you know what I mean. So I'm chilling, and like,
- 19:11Speaker 1: it's not hard to, you know, find people to hook
- 19:14Speaker 1: up with. I have found, you know. I'm not on
- 19:19Speaker 1: the apps though the apps are trash, but I'm gonna
- 19:22Speaker 1: get on that app. It's so funny because I have
- 19:23Speaker 1: never been on the apps, but I've gotten my boss
- 19:26Speaker 1: on the apps. Oh yeah. Like, I like sat there
- 19:29Speaker 1: with her and created a Coffee Meats Bagel app, and
- 19:34Speaker 1: I like was helping her ride her bio and pick
- 19:36Speaker 1: her photos and do all of that. And she's like
- 19:38Speaker 1: asking me about apps, and I'm like, I don't know,
- 19:40Speaker 1: but I know that my friends have had success on
- 19:43Speaker 1: Coffee Meats Bagel. Yes, I have heard good things about
- 19:45Speaker 1: Coffee Meats Bagel. I tried coffee Meats Bagel. But the beans,
- 19:49Speaker 1: the coffee beans, what are the beans? So on coffee
- 19:52Speaker 1: Meets Bagel, you're only allowed to like swipe so many
- 19:57Speaker 1: times in one day, and you have an allowance of
- 20:00Speaker 1: Hoffee beans and once you use them up, you have
- 20:03Speaker 1: to wait until refill your beans, and then if you
- 20:06Speaker 1: pay a certain amount of money, then they upgrade you
- 20:09Speaker 1: to a new level of beans. It was a little
- 20:12Speaker 1: too much for me because I'm like, I want to
- 20:14Speaker 1: just I want to swipe and swipe and swipe and swipe,
- 20:16Speaker 1: but it forces you to limit your daily intakes. Sense does.
- 20:22Speaker 1: So she calls them her bagels. She's like, oh, I
- 20:23Speaker 1: have I literally have you know, I'm having dinner with
- 20:26Speaker 1: my bagel. I them going out with my bagels. She
- 20:29Speaker 1: called them her bagels, and it's so funny. I know,
- 20:32Speaker 1: yeah I did that. I have a question. Are those
- 20:34Speaker 1: considered billable hours for you? You You know what? We do
- 20:37Speaker 1: them on the job. So yes, yes, you're technically a matchmaker.
- 20:42Speaker 1: That's to my bio right now. You get paid to
- 20:45Speaker 1: help people find love. I'm thinking of trying like a
- 20:50Speaker 1: speed dating situation. What happened to that one that I
- 20:53Speaker 1: sent you? See, I'm going to take my friend um
- 20:56Speaker 1: uh Juliana with me because I'm down. So for context,
- 21:01Speaker 1: there was this I have to find it and tell you.
- 21:03Speaker 1: It's called like honey speed dating, So we'll tell you
- 21:06Speaker 1: about it in the future. That goes. But there is
- 21:08Speaker 1: this speed dating based here in l A and my
- 21:11Speaker 1: fem tour posted Louda Luna and it's for queer women
- 21:17Speaker 1: and it's like a speed dating and I think it
- 21:19Speaker 1: was that one of the breweries here in l A.
- 21:20Speaker 1: So I was like, Mama, this is perfect queer women breweries,
- 21:24Speaker 1: I p a s exactly say no more. So UM,
- 21:29Speaker 1: I like, I think I'm going to try it out
- 21:31Speaker 1: because I want to try different types of dating, um
- 21:35Speaker 1: and see how I feel. And then I'll tell you
- 21:38Speaker 1: all about it on the pod. I'll give my feedback.
- 21:42Speaker 1: So if and when I find love, you'll be the
- 21:44Speaker 1: first to hear about it. I'll be the first to
- 21:46Speaker 1: hear about it. Yes, Daniel, Then content, yes, content content.
- 21:52Speaker 1: So in review, we've done so much, so many things.
- 21:59Speaker 1: There has been so much growth for Look and I'm
- 22:02Speaker 1: so proud of us because we really stepped out of
- 22:05Speaker 1: our comfort zone. We brought a lot of new things,
- 22:09Speaker 1: like new types of events, new types of events, new contents.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Knew everything in starting with we did a stand up routine.
- 22:20Speaker 1: We really did. We really did with Spanish Chekey Presents.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Shout out to them for inviting us to do a
- 22:27Speaker 1: stand up like that. Never in my life did I
- 22:30Speaker 1: think I would be doing a stand up routine. And
- 22:33Speaker 1: we did it, and we did it. We had them laughing.
- 22:35Speaker 1: It was good. We need to post a video. We
- 22:38Speaker 1: do need to post a video. Just remember because we didn't.
- 22:41Speaker 1: We didn't. We have it, we have video footage, we
- 22:43Speaker 1: haven't proof that we did this. And it was you know,
- 22:47Speaker 1: it was funny. The people were laughing, it was funny.
- 22:49Speaker 1: We were funny. It was funny. We were funny, you know.
- 22:52Speaker 1: And yes, and if you don't think we're funny, you're femphobic. Yeah,
- 22:57Speaker 1: you're a hater. Yeah, stopping a hater. Don't unsubscribe, but
- 23:02Speaker 1: don't don't unsubscribebbe go somewhere, but stay subscribed. Um that
- 23:09Speaker 1: was a lot of fun. Shout out Ras for inviting us.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Um we in addition to our stand up I mean
- 23:16Speaker 1: of the new things we've done, stand up routine, short
- 23:18Speaker 1: film like fiction you know with Loki Is Anonymous, And
- 23:24Speaker 1: if you did not go to look at it alive
- 23:26Speaker 1: and you didn't get the chance to see Lokith's Anonymous
- 23:28Speaker 1: are short, you know, like look out for announcements because
- 23:33Speaker 1: we're not done with that project. There's so much more
- 23:35Speaker 1: that's going to go into Loki's Anonymous, into that world
- 23:38Speaker 1: that we've created. So we're going to make the film
- 23:41Speaker 1: available in other ways as we go, So keep an
- 23:44Speaker 1: eye out, keep an eye out. Yeah, and you know,
- 23:47Speaker 1: in addition to like new things that we did, we
- 23:50Speaker 1: also hosted a look at after Dark and we discussed consent,
- 23:54Speaker 1: pleasure and play with Ebony from Peace Over Violence and
- 24:00Speaker 1: that was, you know, a new type of event that
- 24:02Speaker 1: we had that we were really excited to do and
- 24:05Speaker 1: that you can definitely see again in We'll definitely do more.
- 24:10Speaker 1: That might be my favorite event of the new events
- 24:13Speaker 1: that we did. Look At after Dark but also Mommy
- 24:16Speaker 1: and Mimosas was a lot of fun. Ye, our brunch
- 24:18Speaker 1: else just different vibes. That was a good ass time.
- 24:22Speaker 1: We love a brunch and our listeners like we turned up.
- 24:26Speaker 1: We had a great time. Yes, it was a lot
- 24:27Speaker 1: of fun. We're going to do another brunch, Yes, keep
- 24:29Speaker 1: an eye out. Definitely. We got some cool press. We
- 24:33Speaker 1: got our Forbes feature, We got our Forbes, We got Oprah.
- 24:37Speaker 1: We got Oh Magazine like Oprah Oh Magazine. Hopefully not
- 24:45Speaker 1: the last time, the first, but not the last. Yes,
- 24:48Speaker 1: I would love to see a full spread of look
- 24:52Speaker 1: at that. Our radio productions manifest, Yes Manifest. Yes, we
- 24:58Speaker 1: got where we talked who had a simon about branding,
- 25:02Speaker 1: building your own brand, building a brand. We got the
- 25:05Speaker 1: Spectrum feature, which was really cool a video feature that
- 25:09Speaker 1: was local to l A. You know, that was super dope. Absolutely,
- 25:13Speaker 1: Spectrum was cool. We were really excited UM and it
- 25:17Speaker 1: was funny because we had like friends or I had
- 25:19Speaker 1: a friend be like, oh I love Spectrum News. Okay, cool, perfect,
- 25:24Speaker 1: We're on there. We're on there. So we did Spectrum.
- 25:28Speaker 1: We traveled, We went out of state. We did Wisconsin, Colorado, Illinois,
- 25:34Speaker 1: and Virginia. We were all over the place. We were
- 25:37Speaker 1: all over more traveling in much more traveling. If you
- 25:41Speaker 1: are a student and you're at a campus, hit us up. Look,
- 25:45Speaker 1: I thought our radio dot com fly us out. We'll
- 25:47Speaker 1: be there. Yes, we truly will be We also a
- 25:54Speaker 1: friend of the pod. We also with the l A
- 25:57Speaker 1: Public Library. We were really excited to um invited to
- 26:01Speaker 1: present podcasting workshops as l A made artists. So we
- 26:06Speaker 1: presented podcasting one oh one workshops for free to the
- 26:09Speaker 1: community at how many libraries at eleven libraries, eleven public
- 26:14Speaker 1: library branches throughout l A. Thank you Public Library. That
- 26:19Speaker 1: was a lot of fun. That was so much fun.
- 26:20Speaker 1: We've met so many people like listeners, community members, folks
- 26:25Speaker 1: that want to start their new podcast. I've seen a
- 26:27Speaker 1: couple of our workshops students attendees and create their podcast
- 26:33Speaker 1: from like since going to the Workshop beautiful, which is
- 26:36Speaker 1: super dope. Shout out to y'all. Um. We also hit
- 26:40Speaker 1: a really big milestone. We reached five hundred thousand all
- 26:45Speaker 1: time listens. Very exciting, millions, very exciting. You know Indie
- 26:52Speaker 1: no real corporate ads, no corporate ads, no corporate, no
- 26:55Speaker 1: real We have like community ads, but you know, no
- 26:59Speaker 1: corporate answers, so no angel investors, and we don't pay
- 27:04Speaker 1: to promote our work. It's all organic reaches. All thanks
- 27:09Speaker 1: to you. Thanks to y'all. Y'all are the best. You
- 27:11Speaker 1: keep us going. What else did we do this year?
- 27:14Speaker 1: Oh my god, so many things. Uh. We did like
- 27:16Speaker 1: a cute collab photo shoot with foot Locker l A.
- 27:21Speaker 1: The photo shoot was so cute, so much fun. Shout
- 27:24Speaker 1: out to Zeila a Word agency for finding it to
- 27:26Speaker 1: be a part of that project. We were the disruptors, yes,
- 27:30Speaker 1: which is super amazing. That was such a cool opportunity. Definitely. Um.
- 27:34Speaker 1: We had a live podcast at the Wing which was
- 27:37Speaker 1: super fun with Sizzle and Norms of the collective who
- 27:42Speaker 1: we love shout out we love you. We were on
- 27:44Speaker 1: buzz Feed. We were in a video thanks to Curly
- 27:48Speaker 1: Velasquez of Buzzfeeds Better Like, where we talked about myths
- 27:53Speaker 1: that are common in the Latin X community about sex,
- 27:56Speaker 1: and we were the sexperts debunking them. You know, we
- 28:00Speaker 1: love a good sex talk, love a good sex talk,
- 28:03Speaker 1: and Curly invited us to do just that talk all
- 28:06Speaker 1: about sex. It much fun, you know. I think the
- 28:09Speaker 1: overall reception was good. There were some comments that were interesting,
- 28:14Speaker 1: and I can't remember if we talked about that on here,
- 28:16Speaker 1: but you know, I don't remember either, but we can
- 28:19Speaker 1: talk about it now. I mean, we talked about, um,
- 28:23Speaker 1: how your body count doesn't diminish your value as a person.
- 28:26Speaker 1: People didn't. Some people didn't like that. We know, I
- 28:28Speaker 1: think the most people were really upset about the Catholic comments.
- 28:32Speaker 1: We referred to ourselves as recovering Catholic because we are
- 28:36Speaker 1: we are. Some people find that really funny and some
- 28:38Speaker 1: people find it really offensive. Apparently. I'm like, nobody said
- 28:41Speaker 1: for you to not be a Catholic go to church
- 28:45Speaker 1: to MESA. I don't care. Whatever. We're not saying don't
- 28:49Speaker 1: go to church. We're just saying we're not doing that anymore.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Like and It's like we are literally experts. Like I
- 28:55Speaker 1: studied scripture. I had a scripture class the Bible. I mean,
- 28:59Speaker 1: I can quote it back at you. We went to
- 29:01Speaker 1: Catholic schools. We get it. We know the whole deal.
- 29:05Speaker 1: I still go to church once in a while, but
- 29:08Speaker 1: only if my mom and I go to brunch afterwards. Right,
- 29:11Speaker 1: that's like the caveat. That's the caveat. I'm like, if
- 29:14Speaker 1: we go to the seafood brunch after yes, I will
- 29:17Speaker 1: attend Mass. Yes, I will even genuflect for the non Catholics.
- 29:24Speaker 1: Look it up. Um, what else did we do? We
- 29:27Speaker 1: were Tecla Award nominees. We were nominated in the Breakout
- 29:32Speaker 1: Creators of the Year category. We did not take the award,
- 29:36Speaker 1: but it was exciting to be nominated. Some say we
- 29:40Speaker 1: were snubbed, Some some us, but some one could say
- 29:46Speaker 1: we were. We have heard other people say that, but
- 29:49Speaker 1: we are not saying that. I'm just I'm just reporting
- 29:51Speaker 1: back what I've heard. Right, I'm going to edit this.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Don't edit it out, and don't edit this out either.
- 30:02Speaker 1: We didn't win, but it was chilled out. It was chill.
- 30:05Speaker 1: It was chill. It was a really hard category y'all
- 30:07Speaker 1: like competitive. It was competitive, as you know. We were
- 30:12Speaker 1: just greatful. I'll be there on or to blah blah.
- 30:14Speaker 1: But you know what, here's the here's the thing. Here's
- 30:16Speaker 1: the thing. If you look at the scope of who
- 30:19Speaker 1: was nominated, to my knowledge, very few of them or
- 30:24Speaker 1: indie creators. They were either full time doing it. Um
- 30:29Speaker 1: have like are with a network or or a station,
- 30:32Speaker 1: have a corporate spot like all that kind of stuff
- 30:34Speaker 1: that we don't have. So for that reason alone, it's
- 30:38Speaker 1: amazing that we were nominated and then we were recognized
- 30:41Speaker 1: because we really are indie creators. We are still working
- 30:44Speaker 1: our jobs, y'all. It's the worst. It's honestly the worst.
- 30:47Speaker 1: We're burnt out, like we're ready to be done. I'm
- 30:51Speaker 1: like one ft one ft. It's hard, I am. It's
- 30:57Speaker 1: just a lot of work to do everything. Yeah, it's
- 31:02Speaker 1: just not physically, emotionally or mentally possible at this point
- 31:07Speaker 1: to just do it. It's not sustainable. No, it's not cute,
- 31:10Speaker 1: like the working until you like die, you know. It's
- 31:15Speaker 1: just like being overbooked is not cute. We need rest, mom,
- 31:21Speaker 1: and I likely like to lounge. We like to lounge
- 31:24Speaker 1: way too much. For this current lifestyle to to to
- 31:28Speaker 1: maintain for much longer. So basically, um are O G.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Listeners are O G. Look on what is have heard
- 31:34Speaker 1: us complaining about our jobs for three years, and we're
- 31:37Speaker 1: manifesting that we will be full time podcasters, Like we're
- 31:43Speaker 1: meant like it's we are taking the steps, We're making
- 31:47Speaker 1: it happen. We're doing a lot of the groundwork right now. Yeah,
- 31:50Speaker 1: we've been doing it. We've been doing it, but I
- 31:52Speaker 1: think especially like in the past couple of months, like
- 31:56Speaker 1: you know, this is trite, but like putting our ducks
- 31:58Speaker 1: in a row, lining that up so that when we
- 32:01Speaker 1: do take that final or that initial leap into full time,
- 32:06Speaker 1: that we're not like scrambling and trying to pay our bills.
- 32:09Speaker 1: You know, we want to make sure we have a
- 32:11Speaker 1: cushion to land on. Absolutely when we have no more income,
- 32:16Speaker 1: we will have income, just not the same kind of
- 32:19Speaker 1: the same kind of income, an income of our own making.
- 32:22Speaker 1: But you know, it's also like inspiring to see folks
- 32:25Speaker 1: that have left their jobs and to see them talk
- 32:28Speaker 1: about like publicly, like tweet things or post on Instagram,
- 32:31Speaker 1: like I doubled my income. I doubled my annual salary
- 32:35Speaker 1: by like working for myself and like going full time.
- 32:38Speaker 1: You know, and I believe that it can happen. It
- 32:41Speaker 1: really kind of happened. Can because we can actually accept
- 32:43Speaker 1: jobs that we have to turn down, turn down or
- 32:46Speaker 1: maybe not consider or not ask for because we know
- 32:50Speaker 1: we have to go to work on Monday. You know
- 32:53Speaker 1: that forty hours or more that the full time, because
- 32:56Speaker 1: it ends up being more than forty hours in many ways,
- 32:59Speaker 1: that is all time that we could be dedicating to
- 33:04Speaker 1: building our own business. And time really is like gold.
- 33:08Speaker 1: There's like nothing more important of the essence. It is
- 33:10Speaker 1: of the essence. So we're crossing our te s doutting
- 33:13Speaker 1: her eyes, hit the venmo At, look at thought dash
- 33:17Speaker 1: radio to support in this transition. Thank you, and if
- 33:21Speaker 1: you know, because here's the thing, We've had listeners hit
- 33:23Speaker 1: us up that are that like work for corporations that
- 33:27Speaker 1: are looking for ad space. So if that's you, it
- 33:30Speaker 1: hits us, I think your company, your agency Loqua wants
- 33:35Speaker 1: to buy ad space because we have the market that
- 33:39Speaker 1: the that the capitalists want. They want our audience. They
- 33:43Speaker 1: want to quote Hispanic millennial market, and that's why, you know,
- 33:49Speaker 1: So if it, if it feels right, of course, we'll
- 33:51Speaker 1: take an ad. So email us at ALA look at
- 33:55Speaker 1: radio dot com exactly, hit the inbox. We will speak
- 33:59Speaker 1: with you. We will talk to you if you're interested
- 34:02Speaker 1: in sponsorship or or we're looking for like publicists and
- 34:09Speaker 1: like agents and you know, folks to help us get
- 34:13Speaker 1: to the next level, because nobody does it alone. Anybody
- 34:17Speaker 1: you see out there who's really like working in media,
- 34:22Speaker 1: especially as personalities or on camera on air, they probably
- 34:27Speaker 1: have they definitely have some type of a team behind
- 34:30Speaker 1: them to help them elevate and get jobs and get
- 34:33Speaker 1: into the room. So that could be management or agents
- 34:36Speaker 1: or publicists or what have you. And so you know,
- 34:38Speaker 1: we've been working with management UM and we're looking like
- 34:42Speaker 1: who were the publicists out there? Who are the agents
- 34:43Speaker 1: out there? Because all that stuff ends up mattering, and
- 34:46Speaker 1: we've been doing it. We've been doing it by ourselves,
- 34:50Speaker 1: like all of it, all of it. You know. We
- 34:53Speaker 1: have our video photo team, we have um you know,
- 34:57Speaker 1: our homegirl, our digital media intern who helps us with
- 35:00Speaker 1: the Instagram visuals. We have our friends and family that
- 35:03Speaker 1: like volunteer at our events, you know, kind of like
- 35:05Speaker 1: our crew. But when we talk about the social media management,
- 35:09Speaker 1: the content creation, the reach out, the pitching, the negotiating,
- 35:13Speaker 1: all that stuff. We do all of it. So you know,
- 35:18Speaker 1: hit us up, help us. Yes, we're ready. We're ready,
- 35:23Speaker 1: We're ready. Yes, Yes we really are. Yeah ours girl,
- 35:28Speaker 1: I agree? I agree. Another just to finish up our review.
- 35:33Speaker 1: Another really cool thing that we did was we presented
- 35:35Speaker 1: at work It when the podcast festival that was here
- 35:38Speaker 1: in l A. So fun, and we did a lightning
- 35:41Speaker 1: talk on podcast parties, podcast parties and pop ups community building. Yes,
- 35:49Speaker 1: podcasting is like a vehicle for community building, which I
- 35:52Speaker 1: think is something that we've really nailed, to be honest
- 35:56Speaker 1: with you. So that was a lot of fun. And
- 35:58Speaker 1: I don't know if there were a whole lot of
- 35:59Speaker 1: a like Indie l A based podcasts that presented at
- 36:03Speaker 1: work It. I don't think there were no, not at
- 36:05Speaker 1: least not the talks that I went to. I think
- 36:08Speaker 1: that a lot of folks similarly at work It are
- 36:10Speaker 1: with networks and studios and you know, they're in it,
- 36:15Speaker 1: and so work It sent an email and we were well,
- 36:21Speaker 1: they did a survey and they asked like attendees to
- 36:24Speaker 1: fill it out and also presenters, and then they sent
- 36:27Speaker 1: out an email and ours was listed as one of
- 36:29Speaker 1: the highlights of the festival. Yeah, so I hope people
- 36:34Speaker 1: like excellence. Yeah, I hope that whoever was there, like
- 36:37Speaker 1: you know, walked away with something and well clearly they did. Yeah.
- 36:41Speaker 1: And we like to have fun at our talks and workshops,
- 36:43Speaker 1: like we try not to make things too serious, like
- 36:46Speaker 1: we like to have a good time. And so again
- 36:48Speaker 1: if you would like to invite us to your school
- 36:51Speaker 1: or organizing things at radio dot com exactly. And finally,
- 36:57Speaker 1: another big highlight speaking of network, because we hosted a
- 37:01Speaker 1: mini series with Crooked Media and Are. The name of
- 37:08Speaker 1: our podcast series is was self Care and I Crooked
- 37:13Speaker 1: minis and self care is not selfish and so we
- 37:17Speaker 1: examined that idea of self care and who gets to
- 37:20Speaker 1: practice self care, what does self care look like for
- 37:23Speaker 1: different communities, and what does community care look like? And
- 37:26Speaker 1: so it was a four part series and we interviewed
- 37:29Speaker 1: some amazing, amazing individuals, some of our friends, some new friends.
- 37:34Speaker 1: We interviewed the amner of All Heart podcast, poet, activists, therapists,
- 37:42Speaker 1: educator organizer. We also interviewed Sizzle DJ Sizzle and Paolo
- 37:47Speaker 1: Riveros of Collective. We interviewed hood Profit Mike and they
- 37:54Speaker 1: were amazing and we also interviewed Glaudia Mendoza of the
- 37:58Speaker 1: Mammy Cho La Social Club. Yes, a call in a
- 38:02Speaker 1: lot of fun. So Crooked Minis. You can still listen
- 38:05Speaker 1: to me myself, Karen i Um on Apple Podcasts if
- 38:09Speaker 1: you look up Crooked Minis. There are different hosts that
- 38:13Speaker 1: hosts the Crooked mini series every month. So we did
- 38:15Speaker 1: the what September, October? We did the October so I
- 38:19Speaker 1: check us us. Yes, it was a good time. It
- 38:22Speaker 1: was a good time, and it was yeah, I mean
- 38:26Speaker 1: a different format for us, you know than like how
- 38:30Speaker 1: we host our yeah podcasts. And that was our first
- 38:34Speaker 1: time working with a professional podcast network, Cricket and so
- 38:40Speaker 1: they had, you know, their studio space and we went
- 38:43Speaker 1: to Hollywood and they had their producer and their sound
- 38:47Speaker 1: engineer and the seven the other So it was cool.
- 38:49Speaker 1: It was cool and it was funny because it was
- 38:51Speaker 1: the first time where we were you know, of course
- 38:54Speaker 1: we were talent and writers, but we were just that
- 38:56Speaker 1: like we weren't the sound engineers. We weren't working the board,
- 38:59Speaker 1: you weren't doing any editing, and it almost was like
- 39:03Speaker 1: a test in relinquishing control truly, because we really had
- 39:07Speaker 1: no final say in how things were edited and everything
- 39:10Speaker 1: turned out amazing. But it definitely like we are perfectionists.
- 39:14Speaker 1: Even though we're hot messes, sometimes we really are perfectionist
- 39:17Speaker 1: when it comes to our craft. And so we we
- 39:20Speaker 1: really had to let go and that was okay, and
- 39:22Speaker 1: that was okay. And what was interesting too is like,
- 39:25Speaker 1: you know, we're used to hearing our own flow and
- 39:27Speaker 1: how we record, and then THEOSA has you know, her
- 39:31Speaker 1: own ear when she edits and stuff, so then to
- 39:34Speaker 1: listen to do the recording, to know what we said,
- 39:36Speaker 1: and then to hear the way it was put together later.
- 39:39Speaker 1: You know, I caught myself and we talked about this together,
- 39:42Speaker 1: like thinking, oh I would have done that differently, or
- 39:44Speaker 1: I don't like how that was actually edited. So it's
- 39:47Speaker 1: cool because it kind of gave us some insight into
- 39:50Speaker 1: like what we put out is on par with what
- 39:53Speaker 1: professional networks are capable of putting out and editing, you know,
- 39:58Speaker 1: and we can still have notes for the professional network
- 40:01Speaker 1: when we hear it. Yeah, exactly, So we're pros. We
- 40:04Speaker 1: know what we're doing, we know what we're talking about.
- 40:06Speaker 1: Do we do know what we're talking? Yeah? We do
- 40:08Speaker 1: know what we're doing. We really were podcaster podcaster. We're nerds, y'all,
- 40:13Speaker 1: are nerdy? I like it, It's fine. Yeah. We actually
- 40:17Speaker 1: just bought because we've been getting so much, We actually
- 40:20Speaker 1: just bought some equipment so we have like our own
- 40:23Speaker 1: mix now so we can record when we travel. We
- 40:27Speaker 1: got Mollo headphones. Um, we donated a boomstand. So that's
- 40:33Speaker 1: what the mic goes on to Espassio. You know, we
- 40:35Speaker 1: want to give back to the folks that give so
- 40:38Speaker 1: much to us and my nine shout out for being
- 40:45Speaker 1: an amazing community resource. Yeah, this like would not be
- 40:48Speaker 1: possible without them, so found out to them. We love
- 40:51Speaker 1: them so much. So it's been one hell of a
- 40:54Speaker 1: year y'all. Podcast Wise, Life Wise, LifeWise, Mala, Is there
- 41:01Speaker 1: anything you want to share from your en like highs
- 41:07Speaker 1: challenges Wins? Well, I just feel like my big big
- 41:13Speaker 1: move and my big big thing was like leaving my
- 41:18Speaker 1: job last year and getting a new job from and
- 41:22Speaker 1: twenty nineteen has really just been about, like, I don't know,
- 41:25Speaker 1: I think I've settled into my actual life at this
- 41:28Speaker 1: point with my my apartment and my dog and the
- 41:31Speaker 1: podcast and friends and just being super single. I realized
- 41:36Speaker 1: that for the past two years, I've gone on like
- 41:38Speaker 1: one date per year, my annual date. And then I'm like, oh, yeah,
- 41:43Speaker 1: this is why I don't do this ship. This is horrible.
- 41:46Speaker 1: But like I said, I've caught several bodies like I've
- 41:48Speaker 1: done very well this year. Um, so that's been fun.
- 41:52Speaker 1: And that's the thing is because I kept feeling like
- 41:54Speaker 1: I wasn't getting any action in these streets. But then
- 41:57Speaker 1: I did a review no that I was talking to
- 42:00Speaker 1: you one day and I was describing all these people
- 42:02Speaker 1: I hooked up with and You're like who and who
- 42:05Speaker 1: and you were like, oh my god. I'm like, wait,
- 42:08Speaker 1: that's true. Okay, I don't think I said you did.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Did I I'm like, wait, that's true. Go me, go me.
- 42:16Speaker 1: So it's been a good year. I've done some fun stuff.
- 42:20Speaker 1: Damn girl. And how about you? In review interview hope
- 42:25Speaker 1: show again, I'm consistent. I'm consistent, yes, girl, I know
- 42:32Speaker 1: yourself was a mix. I think like there were so
- 42:36Speaker 1: many wins, so many like great things that happened. There
- 42:41Speaker 1: were a lot of challenges, I would say, like big challenges,
- 42:45Speaker 1: Like I had a lot of stuff happening, like family wise, Oh,
- 42:48Speaker 1: my god, I didn't even think about family. You've got
- 42:51Speaker 1: a lot of family stuff too, That's not I buried
- 42:53Speaker 1: that for a reason. Back to you, Back to you.
- 42:57Speaker 1: I had a lot of family stuff that I just
- 42:58Speaker 1: cannot share. Maybe one day in the memoir or just
- 43:03Speaker 1: eventually on the podcast, but now is not the time. Um.
- 43:07Speaker 1: And then I think one big thing that I think
- 43:09Speaker 1: really shook me and I had dealt dealt with the
- 43:12Speaker 1: consequences for months, was I got into a really bad
- 43:15Speaker 1: car accident and I'm fine, but it was one of
- 43:18Speaker 1: those things where people could have died, and I was
- 43:22Speaker 1: amazed to see people get up out of their car
- 43:25Speaker 1: and like walk out like it was that scary and
- 43:29Speaker 1: I was fine. My car had been like minimal damage,
- 43:32Speaker 1: and it was just like dealing with all like the
- 43:34Speaker 1: insurance red tape and that was really stressful, but like
- 43:39Speaker 1: all in all, like the fact that nobody died is
- 43:42Speaker 1: like the biggest blessing I think of because it was
- 43:45Speaker 1: so scary, Like I've never felt that kind of fear before,
- 43:49Speaker 1: where like I just saw a car flip and just
- 43:53Speaker 1: children were inside and it was scary, like scary. So
- 43:56Speaker 1: I think like that was one of my biggest challenges
- 43:59Speaker 1: of is just like dealing with all of that. It
- 44:02Speaker 1: like it really forced me to be um, it really
- 44:06Speaker 1: forced me to fight for myself because I'm an avoider.
- 44:10Speaker 1: Like I'm an avoider, I will avoid my drama, i
- 44:13Speaker 1: will avoid my problems, and I will just like really
- 44:16Speaker 1: just like bury it beneath the surface. And so in
- 44:21Speaker 1: all aspects I think of like either like financially, family wise,
- 44:26Speaker 1: you know, like a car accident wise, relationship wise, personal wise,
- 44:29Speaker 1: like I just learned to like confront things head on
- 44:33Speaker 1: and really just go through the fire and then come
- 44:35Speaker 1: out on the other side of it. So I think
- 44:37Speaker 1: like for me, like yes, challenge, but also like perspective,
- 44:40Speaker 1: like I learned to fight in a different way, so
- 44:44Speaker 1: that would be I guess a mixed win and you
- 44:47Speaker 1: know challenge that I had. Absolutely I remember you texting
- 44:52Speaker 1: me after that car accident. That's very scary, man, just
- 44:56Speaker 1: and being in l a. Car accidents are such like
- 44:58Speaker 1: a thing, but it's so da volatile, so dangerous. It's
- 45:02Speaker 1: so dangerous. And I think, like, so my mom and
- 45:05Speaker 1: I had a bad year like car a wise, like
- 45:06Speaker 1: my mom got into two car accidents recently, and like
- 45:09Speaker 1: same thing was really shaken up. She needs a new car,
- 45:12Speaker 1: like her car was basically totaled. So it's just like
- 45:16Speaker 1: those are things that just like shake you at your
- 45:18Speaker 1: core and you just have to deal with them, like
- 45:21Speaker 1: you really can't not deal with them. And especially in
- 45:24Speaker 1: l a like if you're without a car, like it's
- 45:27Speaker 1: hard to get around your whole disruptive like wrench throne exactly,
- 45:33Speaker 1: it's hard. It's really hard. So you know, we're making
- 45:38Speaker 1: money moves now, we really are. We really are. We're working,
- 45:42Speaker 1: we're working on it. We're like we're taking all the steps.
- 45:45Speaker 1: I'm really excited for, Like I've just that's my intention job,
- 45:51Speaker 1: quitting the job, doing this full time, Like it only
- 45:55Speaker 1: works if we both do it, so we like I
- 45:57Speaker 1: have to believe in each other, have to leave in
- 45:59Speaker 1: our self, have to believe in this project, and I
- 46:03Speaker 1: do you know same, So you know, I'm like excited
- 46:09Speaker 1: for and like everything that's going to come our way,
- 46:12Speaker 1: because you know, exhausted is not the look, no, And
- 46:16Speaker 1: I was talking to my parents about this too, because
- 46:18Speaker 1: you know, of course it's always scary to quit your
- 46:21Speaker 1: job and not have the benefits and not have the
- 46:23Speaker 1: monthly you know, income like guaranteed in the same way.
- 46:27Speaker 1: But I also realized that I had two like bigger unions.
- 46:32Speaker 1: I had my five year college reunion and then you know,
- 46:34Speaker 1: this month, I have my ten year high school re union.
- 46:37Speaker 1: And I'm like, damn, well, in the time that I've
- 46:40Speaker 1: graduated from school and been on my own, like, what
- 46:42Speaker 1: have I done with my education and with the degree?
- 46:46Speaker 1: And I feel like I've done what I want to
- 46:49Speaker 1: do professionally or what I would hope to do professionally
- 46:54Speaker 1: as far as the degree, and right now, being in
- 46:58Speaker 1: my late twenties, not being married, not having kids, like
- 47:01Speaker 1: being out of school, having work experience, I'm like, this
- 47:05Speaker 1: is the time to take that leap that people always
- 47:08Speaker 1: talk about, like it's now or never, And the longer
- 47:11Speaker 1: we wait, the more difficult it will be to take
- 47:14Speaker 1: the leap, Like, we gotta do it now, do it now.
- 47:17Speaker 1: And we're in a place that we can. Yes, we're
- 47:19Speaker 1: not with children, we're not married, no mortgages, no mortgages. Yeah,
- 47:24Speaker 1: like this is the ticket. We have to do it now,
- 47:27Speaker 1: we have to do it. Yeah, damn now, we really
- 47:32Speaker 1: got to do it now. We gotta do it because
- 47:33Speaker 1: we called yall ship because is how we don't tell
- 47:36Speaker 1: we really got to do it, and you'll have to
- 47:39Speaker 1: hold this accountable. Yes, y'all send You said you were
- 47:46Speaker 1: going to quit your jobs, and I see you're still
- 47:49Speaker 1: gainfully employed. But the fun is that it's the worst.
- 47:52Speaker 1: You know. I have ppo insurance and that's like the
- 47:54Speaker 1: best insurance truly, truly, and I don't have to pay
- 47:58Speaker 1: for it. Ah, my company pays for my insurance. I'm
- 48:02Speaker 1: like classified as an executive employee. We just gotta be
- 48:05Speaker 1: as careful as possible. Right, let me not run into anything. No,
- 48:11Speaker 1: I'm making all my dentist appointments all making up. I
- 48:16Speaker 1: already started making my appointments for January. Have to lined up. Yeah. No,
- 48:20Speaker 1: I'm definitely like in the same headspace because while we
- 48:24Speaker 1: have the insurance, we've got to use it. I know.
- 48:27Speaker 1: I even had the conversation with my partner, can you
- 48:29Speaker 1: put me on your insurance plan? Like we're not married,
- 48:32Speaker 1: but in California you can do domestic partners, So I'm like,
- 48:36Speaker 1: please put me on your plan. Please. That's an idea. Yeah,
- 48:41Speaker 1: we'll see, we'll see what happens. We're young enough venom
- 48:48Speaker 1: help us pay for our insurance. God, you know what,
- 48:51Speaker 1: I'm also hoping, Like I don't know. Part of me
- 48:54Speaker 1: is so pessimistic with the current state of the country,
- 48:57Speaker 1: but part of me is hoping that we actually elect
- 48:59Speaker 1: a president that will provide us with quality health insurance
- 49:03Speaker 1: so that this doesn't have to be a worry honestly,
- 49:06Speaker 1: because it really is and it really like that's what
- 49:07Speaker 1: capitalism does. It forces you to stay at a job
- 49:11Speaker 1: that you hate or that you're not going to grow
- 49:13Speaker 1: at anymore for your health insurance. It's probably not even
- 49:16Speaker 1: that good anyway, that's going to cost you money anyway, exactly. Yeah,
- 49:21Speaker 1: it's a hot ass mess. Right. We all talk about
- 49:26Speaker 1: politics next year, you'all. We really will. I mean, I
- 49:31Speaker 1: don't even want to talk about the election like it's
- 49:34Speaker 1: relevant right now, Like but I don't even want to
- 49:36Speaker 1: go there. All I'm saying is justice for Julian, who
- 49:41Speaker 1: is not getting and that's because people keep asking me
- 49:45Speaker 1: what my who my candidate is candidate is And mine
- 49:47Speaker 1: is Julian Castro for sure, and not because he's Latino,
- 49:52Speaker 1: Like I don't think you should be voting based on
- 49:54Speaker 1: identity politics, but he really is like speaking to the people,
- 50:00Speaker 1: he's like talking about under service, underrepresented communities. He's talking
- 50:04Speaker 1: about poverty in ways that none of the other candidates are.
- 50:08Speaker 1: You know, I went to the border and like a
- 50:12Speaker 1: non I felt in a way that was genuine and
- 50:17Speaker 1: didn't feel super like photo oppy. And he spoke to
- 50:21Speaker 1: asylum seekers who are like in Limbo, who are just
- 50:25Speaker 1: trying to survive on the Mexico side of the border.
- 50:29Speaker 1: And I appreciate that from him. I appreciate and you
- 50:32Speaker 1: know what, We've had presidents and candidates from Texas and
- 50:35Speaker 1: people love that when they're white, and he's from Texas,
- 50:38Speaker 1: and I appreciate that Southwestern experience, but from a person
- 50:42Speaker 1: of color, I think it's really important. And he you
- 50:46Speaker 1: know the fact that he hasn't been on the debate
- 50:48Speaker 1: stages when he has so much to say. His last
- 50:51Speaker 1: I think the last time he was on the debate stage,
- 50:53Speaker 1: I could be wrong, is when the whole Biden that
- 50:55Speaker 1: I think was attacking Biden when he, in my opinion,
- 50:59Speaker 1: was not he was calling a fact and it was
- 51:03Speaker 1: so like angering to me, enraging to me to see
- 51:07Speaker 1: the way they were, you know, doing the like angry
- 51:09Speaker 1: Latino trope and like making it seem like he was
- 51:12Speaker 1: being like super volatile, and he was like being so
- 51:16Speaker 1: levelheaded and just like calm even in the follow up interviews.
- 51:21Speaker 1: And so that was really frustrating to see because I
- 51:24Speaker 1: don't think that he will get the general vote, you know,
- 51:29Speaker 1: I don't think he'll be our Democratic primary. Um here's
- 51:34Speaker 1: wishful thinking, though, but I mean, I don't think the
- 51:37Speaker 1: country is ready for a Latino president post Trump, Like
- 51:40Speaker 1: I don't think so, you know, I don't know. I
- 51:42Speaker 1: don't know if if they're going to let and I'm
- 51:46Speaker 1: just going to use the word I'm just gonna say
- 51:48Speaker 1: diverse candidate as a catch all for everyone who's not
- 51:52Speaker 1: a white man. But I don't see American voters or
- 51:56Speaker 1: the electoral College allowing for another diverse at it anytime soon,
- 52:01Speaker 1: whether that be a woman, whether that be a person
- 52:03Speaker 1: of color or whatever, of whatever gender. I don't see it.
- 52:06Speaker 1: I just feel like the post Obama, like white supremacist
- 52:10Speaker 1: backlash was so strong, is so strong and has so
- 52:14Speaker 1: much momentum. That's again to be a pessimist, fine, but
- 52:18Speaker 1: I just have that sense and that feeling, and a
- 52:20Speaker 1: lot of folks analyzing the situation feel the same way.
- 52:25Speaker 1: It's really hard not to feel pessimistic. And I know
- 52:28Speaker 1: that like hope is revolutionary and that hope is like radical,
- 52:32Speaker 1: and it's like if you're not maintaining hope, then like
- 52:35Speaker 1: what are you doing this work for? Like I feel
- 52:38Speaker 1: that right now, in this current state, I do feel
- 52:40Speaker 1: very pessimistic, and I want to feel hopeful and I hope,
- 52:44Speaker 1: you know, I hope that that changes. But it's hard.
- 52:46Speaker 1: But it is hard. So will I go and vote? Yeah,
- 52:49Speaker 1: but I mean more horror options going to be? You
- 52:52Speaker 1: do think it's going to be Biden? I don't. I
- 52:56Speaker 1: don't know, because you know, like Bernie had a hard
- 53:00Speaker 1: time last election getting on the final ballot, right, I
- 53:06Speaker 1: don't know if people have it for Bernie. I think
- 53:09Speaker 1: people might have it for Biden. But I just feel
- 53:12Speaker 1: like the American voters are so unpredictable. It's impossible to
- 53:16Speaker 1: really call it. I think it really is. Yeah, I
- 53:19Speaker 1: really don't know. We'll see. I guess you know more
- 53:22Speaker 1: about that. But we really do try to stay out
- 53:24Speaker 1: of the not out of politics, but out of the
- 53:26Speaker 1: news cycle. UM content podcast wise, yeah, because you can
- 53:31Speaker 1: get that elsewhere. There's so many other latin X great
- 53:34Speaker 1: Latex podcasts that do that, So we try to, you know,
- 53:38Speaker 1: stay away from that because you can get it elsewhere,
- 53:40Speaker 1: and the election is all over every news outlet. I
- 53:43Speaker 1: personally see my mom is a type of person that
- 53:46Speaker 1: has the news cycle on constantly. So I get overwhelmed
- 53:49Speaker 1: by it. So I need a break from it. So
- 53:52Speaker 1: I don't want to talk about it on the podcast,
- 53:55Speaker 1: you know. So it's like, if you need a break
- 53:57Speaker 1: from it, tune into local radio. That's how I feel, honestly.
- 54:01Speaker 1: There are other things going on in the world that matter.
- 54:04Speaker 1: We could talk politics. Let's talk about Nouri Martinez. Yeah,
- 54:07Speaker 1: Nourri Martinez was elected New City Council president, and she's
- 54:13Speaker 1: the first Latina ever to be president. And it's a
- 54:17Speaker 1: really big deal, y'all. Nouri Martinez was actually we interviewed
- 54:21Speaker 1: her in the in the early season, in the early
- 54:24Speaker 1: part of season three back in January February. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 54:29Speaker 1: you know, and she reps the San Fernando Valley and
- 54:32Speaker 1: has been a lot of amazing workaround women's issues, around trafficking, um,
- 54:38Speaker 1: you know, resources for communities of color, the Valley Pride
- 54:43Speaker 1: that she puts together, the Valley does gets like a
- 54:47Speaker 1: lot of hate or is not included some of the
- 54:49Speaker 1: hated it comes from us, it comes, it comes. It's
- 54:52Speaker 1: directed our ex boyfriends, not Valley residents, specifically to specifically
- 54:57Speaker 1: the ex boyfriends, not the constitut chouance of the san
- 55:01Speaker 1: To be clear, to be clear, we haven't done our
- 55:05Speaker 1: value jokes in a while. We haven't an we haven't
- 55:08Speaker 1: needed to. We haven't needed to. They're not They're not
- 55:10Speaker 1: in our lives at all anymore in a good way.
- 55:12Speaker 1: That's a good thing, very very good, very positive. But yeah,
- 55:16Speaker 1: so um, that's local politics that we can talk about. Yes,
- 55:19Speaker 1: we can also critique Marie Martinez. Her record is on
- 55:22Speaker 1: spot list. There's also plenty we can say about her
- 55:24Speaker 1: history with street ending, this, that and the other. Acknowledge, Yes,
- 55:28Speaker 1: don't come for us, don't come, don't come for us,
- 55:30Speaker 1: don't we a nuanced but it is. It is a
- 55:36Speaker 1: fact that she was elected city council president. That's a fact.
- 55:39Speaker 1: And she's the first Latina. It's just literally and that's
- 55:42Speaker 1: important because hello, like the residents of l A County
- 55:46Speaker 1: are like, you know, there's a big Latino latin X population,
- 55:49Speaker 1: So that says something that the first Latina is being elected. Truly.
- 55:54Speaker 1: I heard I read somewhere um that there are more
- 55:59Speaker 1: Latin Knows in l A County then they're all. Then
- 56:01Speaker 1: there are people in the state of Iowa. There are
- 56:05Speaker 1: so many of us. This is my thing. We know
- 56:09Speaker 1: that there's millions of people of color, of of of
- 56:13Speaker 1: all kinds of racial and ethnic backgrounds in the United States, millions,
- 56:17Speaker 1: millions Latinos alone, millions Asian folks, millions, Black folks, millions.
- 56:22Speaker 1: There are millions of people, and we continue to be
- 56:25Speaker 1: considered like niche or special interest, a minority. Not really
- 56:29Speaker 1: an addendum, an amendment. I think, I think less and less.
- 56:34Speaker 1: But when we still think about American politics or what
- 56:37Speaker 1: we consider American history, or like what is considered the
- 56:41Speaker 1: people and the majority in the mainstream, there's this sense
- 56:44Speaker 1: that it's a white majority when it's not. Not. Well,
- 56:47Speaker 1: my not really is that the fact that people are
- 56:50Speaker 1: now specifically corporations are now investing and putting in their
- 56:55Speaker 1: dollars to the Latino market because they see are buying power.
- 56:59Speaker 1: They really didn't one point three trillion, and our money
- 57:03Speaker 1: does not stay in the Latin X market like in
- 57:07Speaker 1: within our Latin X businesses and communities. So just something
- 57:11Speaker 1: to keep in mind when you see like these really
- 57:14Speaker 1: big corporations trying to get our dollars, because they're working
- 57:19Speaker 1: on it. They're working hard. Yes, also shout out because
- 57:23Speaker 1: we've had some amazing guests on the podcast this season
- 57:28Speaker 1: in general of course, but specifically this season, and we
- 57:31Speaker 1: interviewed them at the beginning of the year and now
- 57:34Speaker 1: to see where some of our guests are. For example,
- 57:37Speaker 1: Galia Yes she is a National Book Awards finalists and
- 57:44Speaker 1: she has been long listed for multiple awards, and so
- 57:48Speaker 1: when we when we interviewed her, she was talking about
- 57:51Speaker 1: her book not getting the attention that we deserved from
- 57:54Speaker 1: mainstream and then all of a sudden, boom, it blew
- 57:57Speaker 1: up and I'm like, wow, I'm really glad we got
- 58:00Speaker 1: her when we did Girl our impact her Sabrina and
- 58:06Speaker 1: Cordinas also Bridge Shoves. She like launched shop line as
- 58:12Speaker 1: an e commerce place, online directory, so that's really exciting.
- 58:17Speaker 1: Like she made major moves with shop. Latin X was
- 58:20Speaker 1: on this season as well. It's like Latin x Etsy
- 58:23Speaker 1: almost That's exactly a great way to describe it. Go
- 58:26Speaker 1: shop Latin lat X, Yeso and all her wins this year,
- 58:31Speaker 1: her third book, her third book, her column. Yes, yes,
- 58:37Speaker 1: writing a TV show like all these amazing things. Rizzose
- 58:41Speaker 1: Curls doing big things, doing big things, Beau stuff, all
- 58:45Speaker 1: of our of our Times feature right, not a guest,
- 58:51Speaker 1: a future guest, but a friend with a friend of
- 58:53Speaker 1: the pod. Who else? I mean, we had THEA on
- 58:58Speaker 1: the pod and Noni Lamar. They're doing amazing things with
- 59:02Speaker 1: all heart podcasts and just in general. We had Cat
- 59:05Speaker 1: Dahlia on the podcast. She's releasing new music again. Yeah.
- 59:09Speaker 1: Wed the skincare skincare, Oh my god, killing it. She's
- 59:13Speaker 1: killing it for show, killing the game. Yeah, y'all. We've
- 59:16Speaker 1: had some amazing guests. I know that we're not naming everyone.
- 59:19Speaker 1: It's hard to remember everything and collaborations and sponsorships. Viva
- 59:23Speaker 1: Cosmetics I'm wearing right now, and they launched the rebrand.
- 59:27Speaker 1: I'm wearing their highlighter. I wear that literally every day,
- 59:31Speaker 1: the highlighters. The highlighter is really good. I'm wearing one
- 59:34Speaker 1: of the red lipsticks. I'd have to look at the
- 59:36Speaker 1: I don't remember what it's called, but it's really good.
- 59:38Speaker 1: Um Via Cosmetics, The Bloomy. The Bloomy is doing amazing thing.
- 59:43Speaker 1: They've sent us many vibrators. Thank you. I have a
- 59:46Speaker 1: vibrator drawer now I have like a little vibrator collections
- 59:50Speaker 1: and my intimate care collection, Intimate Care collection, and then
- 59:54Speaker 1: right next to it, I have my birth control perfect
- 59:57Speaker 1: love that. Yeah. I feel like this year I have
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: more like like Vulva a Coutremont than ever before. Now
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: I'm really into things for my Volva. Yes, it's like
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: its own like hobby. Yes, it really is need its
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: own care. It's online products what I got. So, I mean,
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: like just so many things, so many things stuff. Everyone
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: is doing amazing things. We're doing amazing things. It's been
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: a long episode. It's been a long year. It's been
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: a long ast year. A good year, but a long year.
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: We're tired. We're tired, We're ready. We're gonna also speaking
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: of Okay, so let's transition into season four announcements. So
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: details are going to be kept at a minimum, but
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: we will be launching season four make January, so we're
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: going to be taking a break the rest of the year.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: There's just a couple of weeks left, and we will
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: be re releasing some episodes during our break that you
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: can go back and listen. To if you miss them,
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: if you're a newer listener, if you want to re listen,
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: We'll be releasing some older episodes from the first and
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: second season. We will also be launching our Patreon newly.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: So we are relaunching our Patreon. If you are one
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: of our fourteen patrons that are listening, shout out to you.
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: Thank you. We have not actually been We have our Patreon,
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: but it has not been active, so it's really just
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: been a donation site that folks contribute to monthly, which
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: is amazing. Um, So we are relaunching it and we're
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: going to have new incentives. We're excited to be working
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: on it again. We're excited too because we're gonna start,
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: um you'll find in season four we're going to start
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: eventually having ads on our episodes and our caps. So
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: something that we're offering on the Patreon is an ad
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: free listening tier, So whether you are interested in ad
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: free listening, We're also going to be offering out one
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: of the tears, things like access to our private Google
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: Voice number if you want to call in or leave voicemails.
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: We're also at a different tier launching like a Social
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: circle of social club and you'll get access to information
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: about meetups and hangouts and socials and things like that.
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: So check it out. It's patreon dot com slash look
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: at Underscore Radio if you want to check out the
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: prices and the incentives it's gonna be. You know, I
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: think we're also thinking about Instagram and the way that
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: it's changed. You know, we've talked about shadow banning before,
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: and we continue to see our content not being pushed
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: down or not being engaged with in the same way
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: that it used to be UM. And then at the
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: same time, our followership is increasing, so it just doesn't
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: add up. It's weird. It's really weird. So because of that,
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: we are going to be paying extra attention to Patreon
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: because that is really where we will be able to
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: own our content, put it on there, engage with y'all
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: in organic ways UM in ways that we can't do
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: with the Instagram anymore. Right, And if you're really into podcasting,
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: you know that there are some podcasts that are only
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: available on Patreon behind a paywall, so we're not doing
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: that with Look I thought out. It's the episode that
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: cuts will still be available free to listen and download
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: on Apple Podcasts. On Spotify, audio Boom, SoundCloud. But if
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: you would like to keep up with all these other
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: incentives and listen add free. The Patreon is a great place.
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: And we say this all the time, But if you're
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: a content creator, um, and your primary method of reaching
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: your audience or displaying your work is on Instagram, just
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: be aware that all platforms come to an end and
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: that we don't own that ship. Other random ass white
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: people own Instagram, so we don't own that stuff, and
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: we don't own that piece of digital real estate. So
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: it's also important to think about for yourself, if you're
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: a constent creator, where else is your workhouse? Where is
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: your home based? Visit our website, look at that our
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: radio dot com. Yeah, also in accountability purposes, we are
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: launching a newsletter so that will be one way that
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: you can keep up with us. That we will be
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: arriving to your into your inbox, so it won't all
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: be on the Instagram the way it has been, you know,
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: in the past three years of look at thought our radio.
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: We're really trying to find different ways to reach y'all.
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: That's not just social media, more of like a direct
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: contact with y'all, you know, UM, and we're gonna be
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: launching some new segments in see during season four and
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: just a lot of new stuff coming, a lot of
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: fresh stuff coming. We're really excited for all of that.
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: It's gonna be a good time. It's gonna be a
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: good time. So I feel like that just about does it. So, um,
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: this has been our year in review and our decade
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: in review. Really, UM, thank you so much, so so
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: much to all of our new listeners. Are O G listeners,

- 1:05:07Speaker 1: you've enjoyed our episodes and the things we've had to
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: say or ship talking. Hopefully you've come to an event
