Record Sea Turtle Nests on Outer Banks | Richmond News
The Outer Banks is buzzing with sea turtle activity this year, hitting a record 56 nests on the Northern beaches alone — the most since counting began in 2009. Volunteers from NEST patrol at dawn, tracking mama turtles’ unique tracks and protecting nests until hatchlings emerge in dramatic “boil” events. While loggerheads dominate, rare leatherbacks and greens are also making appearances.
