- 1:13Speaker 2: This is a podcast called 25 Whistles.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Talking football.
- 1:17Speaker 3: And they all wear a whistle. Yeah, it's stupid. But
- 1:22Speaker 3: what did you expect? It's a podcast called 25 Whistles.
- 1:26Speaker 4: 25 Whistles.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Hello.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Blow it up. Thank you.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Welcome. I mean this respectfully.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Uh-oh. Uh-oh.
- 1:33Speaker 5: He's looking at me when he's saying this.
- 1:35Speaker 1: I do. I don't want you to take this like
- 1:36Speaker 1: a slight. It's going to feel like a slight.
- 1:38Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:39Speaker 5: Give it to me.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Are you a poser a lot of stuff?
- 1:45Speaker 6: No.
- 1:45Speaker 3: I like how he took a breath there to think
- 1:47Speaker 3: about it.
- 1:47Speaker 7: Well, I'm trying to think of where he's getting this
- 1:49Speaker 7: question or where this question's coming from.
- 1:50Speaker 3: You know I like you, right?
- 1:51Speaker 5: Yeah, of course. Of course.
- 1:52Speaker 3: We all like you, dude. We like you. Thanks.
- 1:54Speaker 1: First, I'd like to say, as a Tennessee Vols fan
- 1:57Speaker 1: that you often claim.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Would you say you're kind of a poser Tennessee fan?
- 2:02Speaker 5: Yeah, that's more of just fun. Like, hey, I live here.
- 2:04Speaker 5: Why not be a Vols fan?
- 2:05Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. I just saw a picture of you wearing
- 2:08Speaker 1: a cowboy hat. Yeah.
- 2:11Speaker 3: Oh, I saw that too.
- 2:12Speaker 5: That was Halloween.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Halloween. But you've worn cowboy hats out before, too, like
- 2:17Speaker 1: to concerts and stuff.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, to concerts.
- 2:18Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Like, are you a cowboy?
- 2:20Speaker 1: Yeah, you kind of, you got a new thing, like
- 2:22Speaker 1: you just.
- 2:23Speaker 5: No, no, no, no.
- 2:24Speaker 7: It's like when you go to a concert and you're like,
- 2:26Speaker 7: you know what, I'm going to a Cody Johnson show, maybe,
- 2:29Speaker 7: you know?
- 2:29Speaker 5: And you're like, I got a cowboy hat. I only
- 2:31Speaker 5: wear this.
- 2:31Speaker 3: A cosplay cowboy? You want to be Cody Johnson?
- 2:33Speaker 5: I don't go full cowboy, but the cowboy hat.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Well, nobody wears chaps to a concert.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Take the saddle with him.
- 2:40Speaker 5: I would if it made sense, I guess.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Like cosplay Volsvan, cosplay cowboy.
- 2:45Speaker 5: Yeah, it's just fun.
- 2:47Speaker 3: And then he's not from Boston, but he likes- I
- 2:49Speaker 3: don't care about that.
- 2:50Speaker 5: Now we're taking it too far.
- 2:51Speaker 3: That's fine.
- 2:52Speaker 5: Now you're taking it too far.
- 2:53Speaker 3: I mean, have you been to Boston?
- 2:55Speaker 5: Yes, many times.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I just saw you in the cowboy hat and I thought, huh,
- 3:00Speaker 1: maybe it's things like just posing.
- 3:02Speaker 3: No, no, no.
- 3:02Speaker 1: That was strictly- Like Brian Kelly. Wherever he goes, he
- 3:05Speaker 1: has the accent, you know?
- 3:06Speaker 7: No, don't put me in that Brian Kelly category either. No,
- 3:10Speaker 7: I don't have the, I mean, do I talk with
- 3:12Speaker 7: a southern accent? I've been here for five and a
- 3:13Speaker 7: half years. I don't think I'm that far yet.
- 3:15Speaker 3: I'm not that far yet.
- 3:17Speaker 5: I don't think I've done that much yet.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Well, okay, that's all. I just made a note here
- 3:22Speaker 1: that said Kevin wearing a cowboy hat again.
- 3:24Speaker 3: What was your costume? What were you doing?
- 3:27Speaker 5: It was supposed to be just like Rip. I didn't
- 3:28Speaker 5: buy a costume, so I just.
- 3:31Speaker 3: Rip from Yellowstone?
- 3:31Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 3:35Speaker 5: It's Halloween, Eddie.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. But I'm with Bobby. I first saw that
- 3:39Speaker 3: and I was just like, what's Kevin doing?
- 3:41Speaker 1: Well, and then I thought it could be Halloween, but
- 3:42Speaker 1: then you've also worn it out just normal to concerts.
- 3:44Speaker 1: And then I thought, what's this guy up to? Yeah, no.
- 3:47Speaker 3: It doesn't matter.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Just a thought moving on.
- 3:48Speaker 5: No, that was strictly Halloween.
- 3:50Speaker 3: What other teams do you root for?
- 3:53Speaker 5: The Patriots.
- 3:54Speaker 3: No, no, no. We know that. Your opposing team. Yeah,
- 3:57Speaker 3: your opposing team.
- 3:57Speaker 5: Well, I have an LSU hat on right now.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Yeah, but you bought that there.
- 4:01Speaker 5: Yeah, I went to the game and I just like
- 4:03Speaker 5: the hat.
- 4:04Speaker 1: I'm happy to move on. We have Dow Loggins coming
- 4:07Speaker 1: up in a second, who is the head coach from
- 4:09Speaker 1: App State. We'll talk to John Talti. So where should
- 4:12Speaker 1: we start this week, boys?
- 4:14Speaker 3: Whatever you want, man.
- 4:15Speaker 1: I've been texting all my coach friends over the weekend.
- 4:18Speaker 3: They all won.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Arkansas doesn't play, so all my friends win.
- 4:21Speaker 3: That's cool.
- 4:21Speaker 1: So the Kansas game was pretty spectacular. So I'm friends
- 4:25Speaker 1: with Coach Leipold at Kansas, and Kansas was playing Baylor,
- 4:28Speaker 1: and Baylor drove down. They're about to kick a field
- 4:30Speaker 1: goal to win the game. Kansas blocked the kick, and
- 4:32Speaker 1: they won the game. it was a dramatic ending just
- 4:35Speaker 1: to see a block kick be a game winning block
- 4:39Speaker 1: is always awesome yeah if it's your team yeah and
- 4:41Speaker 1: so I text him I just text him a bunch
- 4:44Speaker 1: of exclamation points I never hit a coach up right
- 4:46Speaker 1: after a game with something to say it's just more
- 4:49Speaker 1: like a slap slap slap the keyboard acknowledgement and so
- 4:53Speaker 1: he messaged me back pretty quickly and then I messaged
- 4:55Speaker 1: him last night once all the All the carnage, all
- 4:57Speaker 1: the happy carnage.
- 4:58Speaker 3: Everything settles.
- 4:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Well, how long do you wait before you send the text?
- 5:02Speaker 3: Like as soon as they win?
- 5:03Speaker 1: As soon as they won, I did the slap the keyboard.
- 5:05Speaker 3: Like it.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Where you just send random letters. And then I text
- 5:09Speaker 1: him last night and I said, did you guys have
- 5:11Speaker 1: a special block play for that? Like one you've been
- 5:14Speaker 1: working on or was that just what, it was just
- 5:17Speaker 1: penetration at the right time. And so he didn't give
- 5:19Speaker 1: me permission to share, so I'm.
- 5:20Speaker 3: Not going to. But he answered you. But yeah, of course.
- 5:22Speaker 3: That's cool. We talk every week. Dang, dude, that's awesome.
- 5:25Speaker 1: So I was happy to see that. I text Dal,
- 5:29Speaker 1: Coach Loggins, who's coming up. I text him right after,
- 5:31Speaker 1: and then I waited a couple days to text him
- 5:33Speaker 1: a real one because App State won. They won that
- 5:35Speaker 1: game on Thursday night. So I actually texted him on Saturday.
- 5:37Speaker 3: That felt like ages ago. Like, when was that game?
- 5:40Speaker 1: They beat JMU, who was, again, they're going to the playoff.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Not so fast, my friend.
- 5:44Speaker 5: Thank God.
- 5:45Speaker 1: So text him. I text Satterfield, Cincinnati.
- 5:49Speaker 3: Oh, big win. Big win over Texas Tech.
- 5:51Speaker 5: Big win.
- 5:52Speaker 4: Yes.
- 5:53Speaker 1: So I text them and I said, I'm sure everybody's
- 5:56Speaker 1: going crazy over you guys' win, but that's all good
- 5:59Speaker 1: and stuff, but peak uniforms.
- 6:01Speaker 3: Because they were all red.
- 6:02Speaker 1: And he hit me back 20 minutes later and goes,
- 6:04Speaker 1: you just look like Arkansas. I said, you know what?
- 6:06Speaker 1: It was nice to see the red do the winning.
- 6:07Speaker 3: You're like, you're not wrong.
- 6:09Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:09Speaker 1: So text him. I think those are my, I'm forgetting anybody.
- 6:15Speaker 5: Coach Beamer?
- 6:17Speaker 3: Oh, Beamer, big win.
- 6:18Speaker 1: I didn't text Beamer. That one was like a big one.
- 6:22Speaker 1: And that was Saturday night. So now I'm free to, huh?
- 6:25Speaker 3: Do you know that you.
- 6:25Speaker 1: I'll text him right now.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Hold on. Okay. Waited a couple days. Yeah, let the
- 6:33Speaker 3: dust settle.
- 6:33Speaker 1: To not get lost in the fray. I'm going to
- 6:39Speaker 1: say amazing game. I'll cover 10 bucks of the fine.
- 6:45Speaker 3: That's your share, 10 bucks?
- 6:46Speaker 1: Mm-hmm. Yeah, it's half a million, right?
- 6:49Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah. But hey, dude, it all counts.
- 6:53Speaker 1: I'll cover 10 bucks of the fine if you guys
- 6:58Speaker 1: need it. Man, I'm glad he's winning. That's a big one.
- 7:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:01Speaker 1: And that was a crazy one because that line was
- 7:06Speaker 1: Tennessee was the underdog, and we couldn't believe that. We're like,
- 7:09Speaker 1: why is South Carolina favored by three? And South Carolina
- 7:12Speaker 1: won the game.
- 7:13Speaker 5: Yeah, and they went up early 14-0.
- 7:14Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Of all his fans like yourself, that's got to be difficult.
- 7:18Speaker 3: I was stressed.
- 7:19Speaker 5: Yeah, I was stressed.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I text him there. Yeah, all my friends, they
- 7:23Speaker 1: all won. I also text John Stamos.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 7:26Speaker 5: What did he win?
- 7:27Speaker 3: Who's he coaching for now?
- 7:30Speaker 1: This is what I text him on Saturday. No, Friday night,
- 7:35Speaker 1: 7.16 p.m. Fun fact, we both have wives named Caitlin
- 7:38Speaker 1: and a child named Billy. Mind-blown emoji.
- 7:41Speaker 3: That is mind-blown. And he texts me back, whoa.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Whoa.
- 7:45Speaker 3: That's it.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Whoa.
- 7:46Speaker 5: I just read that in his voice.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Right.
- 7:48Speaker 5: Or heard that in his voice.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Have mercy.
- 7:52Speaker 1: That was on my text.
- 7:53Speaker 3: That's cool.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Yeah, but everybody was winning.
- 7:55Speaker 3: You don't know the UCF coach?
- 7:58Speaker 1: Let me think here.
- 7:59Speaker 3: UCF. Hold on. I don't even know who that is.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Who is the new UCF coach? I did see that, like,
- 8:04Speaker 1: Aranda Baylor got fired.
- 8:05Speaker 6: I didn't.
- 8:06Speaker 1: They blocked the kick and blocked his job.
- 8:08Speaker 3: I know. Dang.
- 8:10Speaker 5: Oh, Scott Frost is at UCF.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. That's right. That was a crazy win.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Crazy thing about Scott Frost, played at Nebraska, big Husker,
- 8:16Speaker 1: big Husker hero. Obviously coaches, coaches at UCF does really well,
- 8:21Speaker 1: gets a head job in Nebraska, they fire him, their
- 8:24Speaker 1: own boy, then he goes back to UCF and wins again.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Wow, that's crazy.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Mm-hmm. So, yeah, it's really good to see him have
- 8:30Speaker 1: success there.
- 8:31Speaker 3: What about Deion? I don't think they won, but can
- 8:33Speaker 3: you text Deion and be like, good game, coach? Could I? Yes.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Do I? No. I don't keep a consistent enough phone
- 8:42Speaker 1: relationship with him, and so I wouldn't just throw that
- 8:45Speaker 1: at him. All these other guys I talk to occasionally.
- 8:49Speaker 1: I don't think Purdue played this week, did they?
- 8:52Speaker 3: I don't think they did.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Because I looked.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Because I always bet on them. You do? Yeah, just
- 8:56Speaker 3: because of Coach. Because I like Coach Odom.
- 8:59Speaker 1: So, like, I would text him. Like, I'd text with
- 9:02Speaker 1: the Kansas coaches. Ah, Kansas or Dow. Who's coming up?
- 9:05Speaker 1: Dow Loggins. But, yeah, that's what's up. We have John
- 9:08Speaker 1: Talty coming up. Let me know when he gets on, Mike.
- 9:10Speaker 3: All right.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Cowboys tonight.
- 9:12Speaker 3: Tonight, I've been waiting.
- 9:13Speaker 1: I think it all turns around for the Cowboys tonight.
- 9:16Speaker 5: This is it, huh? Now you sound like Eddie.
- 9:18Speaker 3: I think this is it. I look at this and
- 9:21Speaker 3: I'm like, we, we cannot lose this game.
- 9:24Speaker 5: No, you can't.
- 9:24Speaker 1: If you can't, season's over, trade your players.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Yeah, like, it's over.
- 9:28Speaker 5: Especially with the Giants winning again.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Giants are good. And I don't want to spend too
- 9:32Speaker 1: much time talking about tonight's game because, well, now we
- 9:35Speaker 1: have John Talty on. But not only that, it's, people
- 9:38Speaker 1: are going to hear this probably even on Tuesday.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 9:41Speaker 1: And we spend a bunch of time talking about a
- 9:42Speaker 1: game that they already know.
- 9:43Speaker 4: The result of.
- 9:43Speaker 3: And we sound stupid.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Yeah. Or we're speculating about something that's already happened.
- 9:50Speaker 3: All right.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Let me know when John's on.
- 9:52Speaker 3: John is on.
- 9:54Speaker 4: All right.
- 9:54Speaker 1: With us again this week is CBS Sports National College
- 9:57Speaker 1: football writer John Talti. You can check out his book
- 9:59Speaker 1: Lane Being Lane. Lane, which is A +. You can
- 10:01Speaker 1: follow him on Twitter at JTalti.
- 10:03Speaker 3: Okay.
- 10:04Speaker 1: John, I got to tell you this. As of last night,
- 10:08Speaker 1: I just finished your Nick Saban book.
- 10:13Speaker 3: You're going through the Talti bibliography.
- 10:16Speaker 1: And not only that, so I just read Leadership Secrets
- 10:18Speaker 1: of Nick Saban, and I think if you are a
- 10:20Speaker 1: football fan and you're into leadership, it's excellent. I did
- 10:26Speaker 1: not know, because I read all the way through, and
- 10:27Speaker 1: I read all at the end when you were talking
- 10:29Speaker 1: to the players and the people that had played for
- 10:31Speaker 1: him and coached for him, and they were just giving
- 10:32Speaker 1: an anecdote about Coach Saban. And then I read your bio.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Who knew that's what you did before you were big
- 10:38Speaker 1: shot now? you're like running out he was like mr
- 10:43Speaker 1: alabama he.
- 10:44Speaker 5: Was like yeah look at this yeah who knew.
- 10:46Speaker 1: I'm learning more about john talty than i am lane
- 10:48Speaker 1: kiffin and nick saban so now and that was your
- 10:51Speaker 1: first book on the nick saban one yeah.
- 10:54Speaker 8: It was my first book and uh it was actually
- 10:57Speaker 8: the editor of it is a guy based in nashville
- 10:59Speaker 8: um so was you know had that connection uh which
- 11:03Speaker 8: was great but yeah i mean i was just covering
- 11:05Speaker 8: Alabama at the time and, uh, wrote that book. And,
- 11:08Speaker 8: you know, here we are now, uh, without that Saban book,
- 11:10Speaker 8: I'm not on your show. So it's kind of paved
- 11:12Speaker 8: the path for a lot of my career to this point,
- 11:15Speaker 8: which has been amazing. And it's been, it's been cool
- 11:17Speaker 8: seeing it kind of getting a resurgence because of the
- 11:19Speaker 8: Saban docuseries. I think more and more people are picking
- 11:21Speaker 8: up this book, which.
- 11:22Speaker 3: Has been fun.
- 11:23Speaker 1: So I don't feel like a loser asking Nick Saban
- 11:25Speaker 1: questions now, because I just read your whole book about
- 11:27Speaker 1: Nick Saban and you said he was not a part
- 11:29Speaker 1: of the book at all. Did you have a relationship
- 11:32Speaker 1: with him at all while you were doing the book though?
- 11:36Speaker 8: I mean, I covered him for a long time and
- 11:38Speaker 8: then I oversaw our sports coverage at this place called AL.com,
- 11:42Speaker 8: which is a statewide news organization at Alabama. So I
- 11:46Speaker 8: think what's interesting is like when I came into Alabama
- 11:49Speaker 8: at that point, like he was older and I think
- 11:51Speaker 8: he kind of had some of his guys. So it
- 11:54Speaker 8: was hard to kind of get in the mix early on. But,
- 11:57Speaker 8: you know, I feel like he I like to think
- 11:59Speaker 8: he respects what I did and what I do and
- 12:03Speaker 8: was good about the project, I would say.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Did you ever ask him a question and he looked
- 12:07Speaker 1: at you like you were stupid? Yeah, almost every one.
- 12:12Speaker 1: One of my favorite things, I'll tell this story real fast.
- 12:15Speaker 1: I just told this story to somebody recently. So I
- 12:17Speaker 1: remember asking him a question. It was early on in
- 12:19Speaker 1: covering Alabama. And I still think I look youngish, but
- 12:22Speaker 1: this was maybe a decade ago. So I think I
- 12:24Speaker 1: looked like a baby. And I think maybe he thought
- 12:27Speaker 1: I was even younger than I really was. And I
- 12:28Speaker 1: asked him this question and I was asking him basically
- 12:30Speaker 1: during the bye week whether he had been watching film
- 12:33Speaker 1: or something.
- 12:33Speaker 8: And he's like, what do you think? I just watch
- 12:34Speaker 8: film all day. Like, you don't think I do anything else?
- 12:37Speaker 8: It's like, well, no, I kind of think that is
- 12:38Speaker 8: what you do. But he just starts screaming at me.
- 12:40Speaker 8: It's like, OK, whatever. I get it.
- 12:42Speaker 3: And so then he walks away. He looks back.
- 12:45Speaker 8: I think he again, like maybe I just had a
- 12:46Speaker 8: sad look on my face.
- 12:47Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 12:48Speaker 8: And then he comes back and basically starts to apologize
- 12:51Speaker 8: to me. He's like, hey, man, I didn't mean to
- 12:53Speaker 8: jump on you like that. But then he starts revving
- 12:56Speaker 8: himself up and starts yelling at me again. And he's
- 12:58Speaker 8: just like, but you asked me this question. And he
- 13:00Speaker 8: just starts yelling at me all over again. And I
- 13:02Speaker 8: was just like, just who he was. But he was funny.
- 13:06Speaker 8: And there are times where he would definitely let you
- 13:08Speaker 8: have it. But I think he also respected what we
- 13:10Speaker 8: did and understood why we had to ask the questions
- 13:14Speaker 8: we did. I think he was old school in that way.
- 13:16Speaker 1: My final question about the book, because it's fresh, is
- 13:19Speaker 1: that there was a part of the book where you
- 13:21Speaker 1: talk about whenever Kirby beat Nick, to win Georgia's national
- 13:26Speaker 1: championship where Nick was like happy for him, even though
- 13:29Speaker 1: that Saban had lost, but that there was also like,
- 13:35Speaker 1: it wasn't great between them because they thought that maybe
- 13:37Speaker 1: Kirby had left with some of the, the recruiting information
- 13:39Speaker 1: from Alabama.
- 13:41Speaker 3: Are they good now? I think they are.
- 13:43Speaker 8: And he's certainly one of the guys that he speaks,
- 13:46Speaker 8: I think very lovingly of. And I think like, And
- 13:50Speaker 8: you saw that when, you know, when Kirby beat Nick
- 13:52Speaker 8: for that national championship, that there was this moment where
- 13:55Speaker 8: it felt like, okay, like I had a major impact
- 13:58Speaker 8: on this man's career when he was a young guy
- 14:01Speaker 8: all the way to him now winning a national championship.
- 14:03Speaker 8: And I think there was a pride in that. Now,
- 14:06Speaker 8: did he want to beat him by the next day?
- 14:09Speaker 5: Absolutely.
- 14:10Speaker 8: So I don't know that that feeling was long lasting
- 14:13Speaker 8: because of the type of competitor Nick Saban was at
- 14:15Speaker 8: that stage of his life. But I think he certainly
- 14:17Speaker 8: appreciated all that Kirby did for him and and all
- 14:20Speaker 8: that he has since accomplished, and I think now that
- 14:22Speaker 8: he's on the other side of it, the media, like,
- 14:24Speaker 8: Kirby's one of his guys, and you hear him talk
- 14:26Speaker 8: about Kirby in a way that you can tell there's
- 14:28Speaker 8: a lot of respect, and knowing that Kirby is doing
- 14:32Speaker 8: it very similar to how Nick did it at Alabama,
- 14:35Speaker 8: I mean, he has the closest thing to that kind
- 14:38Speaker 8: of famous process that I detailed in the book, and
- 14:41Speaker 8: so I think they're in a really good place and
- 14:43Speaker 8: they're able to joke around and things like that now
- 14:46Speaker 8: in a way that was maybe a little bit harder
- 14:47Speaker 8: when they were the two top dogs of the SEC
- 14:50Speaker 8: competing every year for who is going to be.
- 14:52Speaker 3: The top one.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Am I John Talti's biggest fan?
- 14:56Speaker 3: I think I'm Bobby Bones' biggest fan.
- 14:58Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 14:58Speaker 3: I've read two books. I mean, I'm in. I've spent
- 15:00Speaker 3: weeks with you.
- 15:02Speaker 1: So are you working on anything now, like book-wise? Have
- 15:04Speaker 1: you got a next project?
- 15:06Speaker 3: I'm open to ideas if you've got anything.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Yeah, the downfall of Arkansas Razorbacks and why Bobby can't
- 15:12Speaker 1: stop tweeting every day his complete dismay at the program.
- 15:15Speaker 3: How about that one?
- 15:16Speaker 8: Well, hopefully there's a rise, right? We know the fall,
- 15:19Speaker 8: but maybe there will be a rise in the future.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Spoiler, there won't be. Not anytime soon. There's no rise. Okay,
- 15:25Speaker 1: let's get down to it. Texas, are they good again?
- 15:28Speaker 3: Good again feels like a stretch.
- 15:31Speaker 1: They.
- 15:32Speaker 8: Maybe they're not quite as bad as we thought. I
- 15:34Speaker 8: still think they're not quite as good as we thought.
- 15:36Speaker 8: I mean, that, and I was watching that game, and
- 15:39Speaker 8: you're just like, here we go again. Like, it felt
- 15:41Speaker 8: like they were very close to blowing that game at
- 15:44Speaker 8: the end and ultimately able to hold on, which was
- 15:47Speaker 8: very important, I think, for Arch and Steve Sarkeesian and
- 15:50Speaker 8: all those guys. But, Bobby, I think that the SEC
- 15:54Speaker 8: is just a jumbled mess right now, honestly. I still
- 15:57Speaker 8: think Georgia's the best team. I don't know that they're elite,
- 15:59Speaker 8: but I think that they are a step above And
- 16:02Speaker 8: then you've just got a bunch of teams all kind
- 16:04Speaker 8: of jumbled up, whether that's LSU, Ole Miss, Alabama, Kentucky, Texas.
- 16:11Speaker 8: There's just all these different teams all kind of in
- 16:14Speaker 8: that middle. You saw it in the top 25. From
- 16:16Speaker 8: 10 to 14, it's all ACC teams. And so I
- 16:20Speaker 8: think that is where a lot of these teams are.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Are they good?
- 16:23Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 16:23Speaker 8: They're not bad. They're not elite. They're somewhere in between.
- 16:27Speaker 8: And it just feels like week to week, any team
- 16:30Speaker 8: can lose any game. And so This was one that
- 16:32Speaker 8: Texas had to win at home to stay in the mix.
- 16:35Speaker 8: But I don't think it means that Ole Miss is
- 16:37Speaker 8: a bad team now. I think Ole Miss is still
- 16:39Speaker 8: pretty good. They're just kind of in that same range, basically.
- 16:42Speaker 1: It's pretty wild to watch Texas win that when they
- 16:44Speaker 1: tried to lose that so many times. And I like Arch,
- 16:48Speaker 1: but he had thrown two picks and I think had
- 16:50Speaker 1: fumbled a ball at some point in the third quarter.
- 16:54Speaker 3: That could be off.
- 16:54Speaker 1: I'm just going from memory. but not a great performance
- 16:58Speaker 1: from Arch overall, but they did win. Are we going
- 17:01Speaker 1: to hear less about the other quarterback getting first-team reps,
- 17:03Speaker 1: or do you think that stays consistent with last week?
- 17:06Speaker 8: I think it quiets it down a little bit, but
- 17:09Speaker 8: I think you have to be ready. He had one
- 17:12Speaker 8: interception in that game, Bobby, that was just terrible. Just
- 17:15Speaker 8: a terrible decision. And you're like, come on, Arch. You
- 17:17Speaker 8: were starting to do some things that looked better, and
- 17:19Speaker 8: then you do something like that. And that's kind of
- 17:21Speaker 8: the The good and bad of Arch Manning. So I
- 17:24Speaker 8: think the fact that he won, clearly it was an
- 17:26Speaker 8: emotional game for him. You could tell that, you know,
- 17:29Speaker 8: he had been challenged and was able to get the win.
- 17:31Speaker 8: And so I think you keep riding the hot hand
- 17:35Speaker 8: if it continues to work. But I don't think the
- 17:38Speaker 8: issues around Arch that we've detailed on your show in
- 17:41Speaker 8: the past have just gone away. And I think whether that's,
- 17:45Speaker 8: you know, getting KJ Lacey, who's the backup, you know,
- 17:47Speaker 8: better prepared moving forward, like I think that's something that
- 17:50Speaker 8: still has to be a consideration knowing that even with
- 17:55Speaker 8: a win and even with some, some plays that were good,
- 17:58Speaker 8: there were also some decisions from arch that were not great.
- 18:01Speaker 8: And that could get you in trouble down the line.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Do we feel like the Texas LSU game is a,
- 18:07Speaker 1: I quit match. You lose your out, no chance for
- 18:09Speaker 1: the playoffs.
- 18:12Speaker 8: I think we're pretty much at that, that stage. I mean, there's,
- 18:16Speaker 8: There's still some paths forward. Again, it depends on what
- 18:19Speaker 8: the rest of the SEC does. But I do feel
- 18:23Speaker 8: like the loser of that game is going to have
- 18:25Speaker 8: an extremely challenging path to make it into.
- 18:30Speaker 3: The playoffs.
- 18:31Speaker 8: So that's a big one for both of those teams.
- 18:33Speaker 8: And LSU's got multiple, you know, LSU still has to
- 18:36Speaker 8: play Tennessee. I know Tennessee just lost in the weekend,
- 18:38Speaker 8: but that's still a tough team to play. So, I mean, LSU,
- 18:41Speaker 8: they still have Alabama. I mean, LSU has these multiple
- 18:44Speaker 8: challenging games. So some of these teams, there's just not
- 18:48Speaker 8: a lot of wiggle room at this rate of the season.
- 18:53Speaker 8: And so LSU looked better this past weekend. They're in
- 18:56Speaker 8: the mix, like a bunch of those teams I mentioned earlier,
- 18:59Speaker 8: but out right now I would say they are the
- 19:02Speaker 8: outside looking into the playoff and so they're going to
- 19:04Speaker 8: have to win some of these important games and also
- 19:07Speaker 8: need some teams in front of them to start losing
- 19:09Speaker 8: which you know did happen over the weekend.
- 19:11Speaker 1: A team that's not SEC but that I've been able
- 19:14Speaker 1: to watch a few games is Utah that's a really
- 19:17Speaker 1: cool I don't know if it's novel but novel to
- 19:20Speaker 1: me doesn't feel like it's real but that offense feels
- 19:24Speaker 1: pretty real with those two quarterbacks have you seen anything
- 19:26Speaker 1: like that ever I.
- 19:28Speaker 8: Feel like one of my colleagues, who I think you know,
- 19:30Speaker 8: Brandon Marcello, did a story about that offense earlier. And
- 19:35Speaker 8: I think there's been a little bit here and there
- 19:37Speaker 8: over the years. But it's very rare overall and a
- 19:40Speaker 8: pretty cool wrinkle to what they're doing there. Utah's tough, man,
- 19:45Speaker 8: because there are times where they just don't look super impressive.
- 19:50Speaker 8: And then they, of course, were able to beat Houston
- 19:53Speaker 8: over the weekend. And right now they are the top
- 19:56Speaker 8: dog in the Big 12. I think I'm maybe just
- 20:00Speaker 8: in general a bit of a Big 12 skeptic. I mean,
- 20:03Speaker 8: I think you saw that kind of play out over
- 20:04Speaker 8: the weekend where BYU and Texas Tech both go down
- 20:07Speaker 8: to unranked teams. I think Utah, I still, even though
- 20:11Speaker 8: they're ranked, you know, top five, top six in the country,
- 20:13Speaker 8: I'm still a little skeptical of them being that level
- 20:17Speaker 8: of like elite team. Um, but they have a very
- 20:20Speaker 8: cool kind of operation going there. And I think it's also,
- 20:23Speaker 8: I mean, they are, I think, uh, early on one
- 20:26Speaker 8: of the most successful head coach and waiting transitions we've
- 20:29Speaker 8: ever seen. Um, you know, Kyle Whittingham passing, uh, the
- 20:32Speaker 8: baton to Morgan Scali and that's gone super well so far.
- 20:35Speaker 3: So it's, it's a really cool story.
- 20:37Speaker 8: And, you know, coming up, you got Utah BYU, I
- 20:40Speaker 8: think in two weeks, like that will be a huge
- 20:42Speaker 8: game for, for both of those two teams in terms
- 20:44Speaker 8: of making the playoff.
- 20:45Speaker 1: So we had three coaches get fired, but again, you
- 20:48Speaker 1: had highlighted Wisconsin's turnaround under fickle. Is he an example
- 20:52Speaker 1: of why maybe you like wait a beat before you
- 20:56Speaker 1: fire your coach, especially with all the money they have
- 20:58Speaker 1: to pay out now?
- 20:59Speaker 3: He's the one successful example, really.
- 21:01Speaker 8: So yeah, There's probably more evidence against going that path,
- 21:07Speaker 8: but he is the example of why it could work.
- 21:09Speaker 8: And so you look at coming into the season at
- 21:12Speaker 8: CBS Sports, we had four people on the quote-unquote hottest seats,
- 21:16Speaker 8: and those were Luke Fickle at Wisconsin, Dave Aranda at Baylor,
- 21:20Speaker 8: Mike Loxley at Maryland, and Mike Norvell at Florida State. Well,
- 21:24Speaker 8: just in the last week, Mike Loxley and Dave Aranda
- 21:26Speaker 8: both got fired, and I would say Mike Norvell is
- 21:29Speaker 8: on the hottest seat Kind of currently still employed at
- 21:33Speaker 8: his job. So, you know, three, two out of four
- 21:35Speaker 8: have been failures. And one of those four is still
- 21:38Speaker 8: very much in question as to whether they're going to
- 21:40Speaker 8: make it to the end of the season.
- 21:41Speaker 3: Fickle is a success.
- 21:43Speaker 8: And I do think Fickle did not have the resources
- 21:46Speaker 8: necessary to be competitive early on. He also made what
- 21:50Speaker 8: I think was a pretty big mistake in what he
- 21:52Speaker 8: did of his first coaching staff, what they were trying
- 21:54Speaker 8: to do offensively until long ago. It never really made
- 21:57Speaker 8: sense for what Wisconsin football, at least to me, what
- 22:00Speaker 8: it is. And that did not work. And so he
- 22:02Speaker 8: kind of set himself a couple years behind having to
- 22:05Speaker 8: transition from that offense to more of what we expect,
- 22:08Speaker 8: a little bit more ground and pound with Wisconsin. And
- 22:11Speaker 8: it's finally paying off this year. I mean, they're a
- 22:13Speaker 8: top 25 team. There's a real path to them making
- 22:16Speaker 8: eight or nine wins by the end of the season.
- 22:19Speaker 8: And that's a huge credit to Luke Fickle, but also
- 22:23Speaker 8: in that administration of like, hey, let's give him one
- 22:25Speaker 8: more shot. Let's pour some more money into it and
- 22:27Speaker 8: see what can happen. And it has worked at Wisconsin.
- 22:31Speaker 8: It did not work at Baylor or Maryland to this,
- 22:33Speaker 8: you know, given the results.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Big Shane Beamer weekend, keeping his job now.
- 22:40Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, he's– there's, I guess, a word to
- 22:44Speaker 8: describe October South Carolina that was getting some attention over
- 22:48Speaker 8: the weekend.
- 22:48Speaker 3: Yes, you can say it. Cocktober it is. Yeah, Cocktober. Yeah, okay.
- 22:52Speaker 3: We're a family show. I don't know if I'm allowed
- 22:54Speaker 3: to say that. But, yeah, I mean, so they.
- 22:58Speaker 8: Just seem to have these wins in this kind of
- 23:01Speaker 8: time of year. They are a spoiler-type team, and we
- 23:04Speaker 8: saw that again. I mean, Vegas knows they were too–
- 23:07Speaker 8: south carolina was a 2.5 point favorite and they win
- 23:10Speaker 8: by three uh that's just one of those like the
- 23:12Speaker 8: vegas just knows things um and you could tell it
- 23:17Speaker 8: meant a lot to him um after the game um
- 23:20Speaker 8: i think when things aren't going well you start feeling
- 23:23Speaker 8: like the walls are closing in on shane and how
- 23:25Speaker 8: he talks about things and then you know the way
- 23:27Speaker 8: they won and the way he talked about after bringing
- 23:29Speaker 8: up some of the tennessee i guess conspiracy stuff around
- 23:32Speaker 8: the past like you could just tell, man, Shane really
- 23:34Speaker 8: wanted to beat Tennessee and he's feeling himself a little
- 23:36Speaker 8: bit after that win. But, uh, you know, it's, it's
- 23:39Speaker 8: kind of thing that kind of gets you back on
- 23:41Speaker 8: track a bit and hopefully gets you some momentum, um,
- 23:45Speaker 8: headed into, you know, end of the season when it
- 23:46Speaker 8: comes to recruiting and transfer portal and things like that.
- 23:48Speaker 8: So I think Beamer as it stands right now is
- 23:52Speaker 8: in very good position to keep his job going into,
- 23:55Speaker 8: you know, 2027. And We'll see kind of whether they
- 23:58Speaker 8: invest more in that program and what they're able to
- 24:01Speaker 8: do to try to build off of some of these,
- 24:03Speaker 8: you know, pretty big wins that they've had in the last,
- 24:05Speaker 8: you know, two, three weeks.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Before you came on, I texted Shane because I said,
- 24:09Speaker 1: I waited a couple of days to let the dust settle.
- 24:10Speaker 3: Amazing game.
- 24:11Speaker 1: I'll cover 10 bucks of the fine if you guys
- 24:12Speaker 1: need it because I got fined a half a million bucks.
- 24:14Speaker 1: He has already texted me back. These coaches, they need
- 24:17Speaker 1: to do their jobs. They don't even worry about texting
- 24:19Speaker 1: people back. They need to wait like a day. He said, man,
- 24:22Speaker 1: appreciate it. Awesome night.
- 24:23Speaker 3: Need to keep going. Can they win?
- 24:25Speaker 1: I really thought Arkansas could beat South Carolina. I no
- 24:27Speaker 1: longer think that, John.
- 24:29Speaker 8: See, Bobby, I'm of the belief that anything is possible
- 24:32Speaker 8: this year in the SEC. I just think it's a
- 24:34Speaker 8: chaos year, and we just have to accept that anything
- 24:36Speaker 8: can happen any given week. I like that. There's no
- 24:40Speaker 8: result that even surprises me anymore. So I'll tell you,
- 24:44Speaker 8: one of my bosses at CBS Sports is a Texas grad,
- 24:47Speaker 8: big Texas guy. And I told him before, I was like,
- 24:49Speaker 8: I think Texas has a pretty good shot to beat
- 24:51Speaker 8: Ole Miss. He's like, no, we're this, we're that, we're
- 24:54Speaker 8: ranked 107th in EPA, and all these different stats for
- 24:57Speaker 8: why Texas was bad. And I was like, you just
- 24:58Speaker 8: have to accept that because Texas feels like it won't
- 25:02Speaker 8: win this game is exactly why they will win this game.
- 25:04Speaker 8: And that's just kind of the mentality that I have
- 25:06Speaker 8: around this season. So, All the reasons on paper why
- 25:10Speaker 8: Arkansas shouldn't win that game could be the reason why
- 25:12Speaker 8: they do win that game. I just think anything can
- 25:14Speaker 8: happen any given week. And we're seeing that, which makes
- 25:17Speaker 8: the season, I think, so fun. It's also going to
- 25:19Speaker 8: be incredibly hard. for a lot of people, especially the
- 25:22Speaker 8: college ball selection committee at the end of the season,
- 25:25Speaker 8: trying to decipher how to rank these different teams, because
- 25:28Speaker 8: there's going to be a lot of wild results. I
- 25:31Speaker 8: think throwing in was like, oh, you've got to win
- 25:32Speaker 8: over this top 10 team. Then you also lost to
- 25:34Speaker 8: this team. That's like five and seven. And there's going
- 25:36Speaker 8: to be a lot of teams in the SEC with
- 25:38Speaker 8: results like that.
- 25:39Speaker 1: Final question, Texas A & M, they lost again. I mean,
- 25:44Speaker 1: how's the relationship with Texas Ags going over there?
- 25:46Speaker 8: It's not great. Doesn't feel like that's a great situation.
- 25:50Speaker 8: And I think one of the things that I am
- 25:53Speaker 8: curious about with A & M is, you know, you
- 25:56Speaker 8: might have seen over the weekend that Oregon fired its
- 25:58Speaker 8: offensive coordinator. And I've written, I've kind of compared and
- 26:02Speaker 8: linked Oregon and Texas A & M together. And that
- 26:05Speaker 8: in both of those places, they promoted an internal candidate
- 26:10Speaker 8: to an offensive coordinator job. And in each of them,
- 26:12Speaker 8: it did not feel like the right move in the moment.
- 26:15Speaker 8: But the coach was having so much success the previous
- 26:17Speaker 8: season that you kind of give them the benefit of
- 26:19Speaker 8: the doubt. Well, Oregon's already decided, yeah, we messed up.
- 26:23Speaker 8: I think Texas A & M, Mike Yelko, like clearly
- 26:25Speaker 8: that offense is just not working. It's not all Holman Wiggins'
- 26:28Speaker 8: fault as the offensive coordinator. Marcel Reed had some just
- 26:31Speaker 8: absolutely terrible throws in that game that really hurt their
- 26:36Speaker 8: chances to beat Alabama. But I do think there's going
- 26:39Speaker 8: to have to be some soul-searching at Texas A &
- 26:41Speaker 8: M to really evaluate. We had so much momentum coming
- 26:45Speaker 8: off of last year's playoff season. It did not go well.
- 26:49Speaker 8: Some of that, I think, was keeping Marcel Reed, but
- 26:51Speaker 8: also I think it was promoting internally. And they're probably
- 26:54Speaker 8: going to need to bring in an outside voice to
- 26:56Speaker 8: fix what has plagued their offense. And you can just lose...
- 27:02Speaker 8: momentum really fast in the sec and mike elko was
- 27:05Speaker 8: one of the hottest names in the country a year
- 27:07Speaker 8: ago including being mentioned for the penn state job and
- 27:10Speaker 8: you know now people are like oh like did it's
- 27:12Speaker 8: not working where a and m moving forward how are
- 27:15Speaker 8: they going to fix this and so there's going to
- 27:17Speaker 8: be a lot of off-season questions i think around a
- 27:19Speaker 8: and m just kind of how they fell off uh
- 27:22Speaker 8: this season and there's there's a lot to fix there.
- 27:25Speaker 1: There he is the great john talty i'm in the
- 27:26Speaker 1: fan club you can check out lane b and lane
- 27:29Speaker 1: or the leadership secrets of nick saban Or I'm trying
- 27:32Speaker 1: to really get his eighth grade journal to read next. Really,
- 27:35Speaker 1: I've been on it on eBay. I'm trying to get
- 27:37Speaker 1: my hands on anything. John, thank you, and we'll talk
- 27:39Speaker 1: to you soon.
- 27:41Speaker 8: Appreciate it, Bobby.
- 27:42Speaker 3: See you soon.
- 27:42Speaker 1: There he is, the great. The book's good, guys. Eddie,
- 27:45Speaker 1: I know you're a big book reader now.
- 27:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm a reader now. Do you have a copy?
- 27:50Speaker 3: What do you think?
- 27:51Speaker 1: No. I download it and read it on my iPad.
- 27:53Speaker 3: I know you download it. How much is that?
- 27:55Speaker 1: You should read the Lane Kiffin book first. The Lane
- 27:58Speaker 1: Kiffin book is more if you just want entertainment. The
- 28:01Speaker 1: Nick Saban book is if you need a good kick
- 28:03Speaker 1: in the pants. Because it's not just Nick Saban's life story.
- 28:05Speaker 1: It's also like his success principles.
- 28:09Speaker 5: Like inspiration a little bit in there?
- 28:11Speaker 1: I wouldn't say Nick Saban's an inspirational guy. Nick Saban
- 28:14Speaker 1: is a very practical guy. A lot of people would
- 28:17Speaker 1: say that his system is very fail until you don't.
- 28:21Speaker 3: Oh, that sounds familiar. Great book. Yeah. Interesting.
- 28:24Speaker 5: I've seen that somewhere.
- 28:26Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

- 29:31Speaker 2: Cubs aren't in it. What do I care? There are
- 29:33Speaker 2: a lot of Brewers fans.
- 29:54Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just weird to me that, like, for years
- 29:57Speaker 3: and years, I've never seen anyone that I've known personally
- 30:00Speaker 3: be a Brewers fan. You know, people that I've just
- 30:03Speaker 3: talked to on the daily at my kids' baseball games,
- 30:06Speaker 3: basketball games, and then they just come out of the woodworks. Oh,
- 30:09Speaker 3: cool hat. You a Brewers fan? Oh, lifelong Brewers fan, man.
- 30:13Speaker 3: This is awesome. They're looking good. World Series, they want to.
- 30:17Speaker 3: And I'm like, I've never seen them wear Brewers gear
- 30:21Speaker 3: at all. I get on Facebook. Two dudes from high
- 30:23Speaker 3: school with Brewers fans. Go Brews. Dude, I've known you
- 30:27Speaker 3: your whole life. You didn't like the Brewers? It's a
- 30:30Speaker 3: lot of Kevin. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry.
- 30:33Speaker 1: A lot of new Brewers.
- 30:35Speaker 4: Hey, hey.
- 30:36Speaker 5: This isn't about me right now.
- 30:37Speaker 3: I'm surprised you.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Didn't come in in a Brewer sweater today.
- 30:40Speaker 3: Where are these people coming from?
- 30:43Speaker 1: I think they are Johnny Come Brewerly. I have... October
- 30:49Speaker 1: of 1982. That was the last time the Brewers were
- 30:52Speaker 1: in the World Series, right? I have the top 10
- 30:55Speaker 1: songs on the Billboard chart. The week of October 1982.
- 30:59Speaker 1: I love this. At number 10, see if you can
- 31:04Speaker 1: sing a little bit of it. Okay. At number 10,
- 31:06Speaker 1: Steve Miller band, Abracadabra. Oh, yeah.
- 31:09Speaker 3: Abra, abracadabra. You don't know that one?
- 31:13Speaker 1: I want to reach out and grab you.
- 31:14Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah. How did you not know that? That's
- 31:17Speaker 3: not one I can just... Oh, my God.
- 31:18Speaker 5: I'm embarrassed for you. I knew that one, Eddie, and
- 31:19Speaker 5: I'm not the music guy.
- 31:20Speaker 3: Okay, sing it.
- 31:22Speaker 5: We just did. Abra, abracadabra.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Sugar Ray ended up covering it, too, in the early 2000s.
- 31:28Speaker 3: Is this because it's Halloween time, and they're like, ooh, abracadabra.
- 31:31Speaker 3: That'd be kind of cool. Like magic. This was 1982, October.
- 31:34Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Number 10 song.
- 31:36Speaker 3: Halloween time.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Okay, number nine. A Flock of Seagulls, I Ran. Oh,
- 31:43Speaker 1: you don't know music.
- 31:44Speaker 3: Dude, I quit. And I ran.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Ran so far away.
- 31:50Speaker 3: I don't know get away. Dude.
- 31:53Speaker 1: You know music?
- 31:54Speaker 3: And I ran. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. It's all coming back.
- 31:57Speaker 1: I'm ashamed right now.
- 31:58Speaker 3: Dude, I was. So was I.
- 32:00Speaker 1: You're older than me.
- 32:01Speaker 3: Three years old.
- 32:02Speaker 5: But you're older than me.
- 32:03Speaker 1: You know music.
- 32:04Speaker 3: How old were you? Two?
- 32:05Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 32:06Speaker 3: Yeah. What else? What else is on that chart? You
- 32:08Speaker 3: know music. Go.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Number eight. America, you can do magic.
- 32:14Speaker 3: Oh, man. Now I'm thinking every little thing I do
- 32:17Speaker 3: is magic.
- 32:18Speaker 1: That's the police.
- 32:19Speaker 3: I don't know this one.
- 32:20Speaker 5: I've got magic to do.
- 32:22Speaker 3: Me and you, I've got magic to do. Never heard
- 32:25Speaker 3: that in my life.
- 32:26Speaker 1: Is that it?
- 32:26Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 32:27Speaker 1: I got to be honest with you. I don't know
- 32:30Speaker 1: that one.
- 32:31Speaker 6: We may.
- 32:32Speaker 3: What's it called?
- 32:32Speaker 1: You Can Do Magic?
- 32:34Speaker 3: Two magic songs. I'm telling you. There's something.
- 32:37Speaker 5: The 80s were magic time.
- 32:39Speaker 1: Do you think we'll know it?
- 32:40Speaker 3: Here we go.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Hold on. Never.
- 32:46Speaker 3: Nope. And who is that? America? Wait, wait.
- 32:52Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 32:53Speaker 3: Never heard that in my life. Oh, that's garbage. All right.
- 32:59Speaker 1: Number seven. This one you'll know.
- 33:01Speaker 3: Come on. Come on.
- 33:02Speaker 1: Jackson Brown, Somebody's Baby.
- 33:07Speaker 3: Somebody's baby.
- 33:09Speaker 1: No, you're going to mess it up in my head
- 33:11Speaker 1: if you don't. You know it.
- 33:12Speaker 3: Somebody's baby. Jackson Brown, man. All I know is take
- 33:16Speaker 3: it easy.
- 33:16Speaker 1: She's got to be somebody's baby.
- 33:20Speaker 3: Oh, you're messing me up. Come on, do it, dude.
- 33:21Speaker 1: She must be somebody's baby.
- 33:23Speaker 3: Oh, I'm there.
- 33:27Speaker 1: She's got to be somebody's baby. She must be somebody's baby.
- 33:33Speaker 5: There we go.
- 33:34Speaker 3: You hear it, Kevin?
- 33:34Speaker 5: Yeah, from Fast Times. That's what I think of with
- 33:36Speaker 5: that song at Ridgemont High.
- 33:38Speaker 3: She must be. Okay, hold on.
- 33:40Speaker 1: You're going to get it. All these songs are messing
- 33:42Speaker 1: me up, but... You'll know it for sure. Somebody's baby.
- 33:48Speaker 1: Hold on.
- 33:52Speaker 3: Let it get there. It's a good song.
- 33:55Speaker 5: Somebody's baby.
- 33:58Speaker 3: I don't know if I heard this one. Hold on.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Anyway.
- 34:05Speaker 3: Man, I feel like 82. I was just missing out
- 34:06Speaker 3: on music then.
- 34:08Speaker 1: So far we got three decent songs though. Next up.
- 34:13Speaker 3: Heart attack, Olivia Newton-John.
- 34:15Speaker 6: No.
- 34:16Speaker 3: Me either.
- 34:16Speaker 1: Brandon? Nope. Kevin's not going to know this stuff.
- 34:20Speaker 3: So far, the three, he's like, oh, yeah, good.
- 34:22Speaker 1: One, he's a little young, and then two, he's not
- 34:24Speaker 1: really a music guy.
- 34:25Speaker 3: No, I know that. He's a poser sports guy. Yeah,
- 34:28Speaker 3: he likes the Brewers.
- 34:28Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hold on. Heart attack, Olivia Newton-John. She's
- 34:38Speaker 1: a main heart attack.
- 34:39Speaker 3: Heart attack. Dude, those 80s drums are the best.
- 34:45Speaker 1: I don't know that song.
- 34:46Speaker 3: It makes me want to do the 80s dance, you know?
- 34:48Speaker 3: Side to side. You're doing Carlton? Okay, number five. I guess, yeah.
- 34:52Speaker 3: Joe Cocker.
- 34:53Speaker 1: You'll know this one. This will be the one you know.
- 34:54Speaker 3: Joe Cocker.
- 34:55Speaker 1: Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes. But you know the song,
- 34:58Speaker 1: Up Where We Belong.
- 35:02Speaker 3: Where we belong. Lift us up where we belong.
- 35:07Speaker 5: Okay, I'm back, baby.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Okay, number four. Michael McDonald. I keep forgetting every time
- 35:13Speaker 1: you're near.
- 35:14Speaker 3: I keep forgetting. I keep forgetting. I don't know. I
- 35:17Speaker 3: have no idea. That's close. Do you know that? I
- 35:19Speaker 3: keep forgetting. Oh, I know that one. I keep forgetting.
- 35:26Speaker 1: I don't think people understand because I didn't. how hard
- 35:29Speaker 1: it is to do all these songs. Whenever you get
- 35:31Speaker 1: one melody and you're searching for it, you can't find another,
- 35:33Speaker 1: even if you know it.
- 35:34Speaker 3: Okay. I keep forgetting.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Here we go.
- 35:41Speaker 3: Oh, come on, baby. Do you know what that's from?
- 35:43Speaker 5: Warren G.
- 35:44Speaker 3: Oh, that's the sample. It's a sample. Regulators.
- 35:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 35:51Speaker 3: Okay. Good job, Brandon. I would have never gotten there.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Next up, the Alan Parsons project at number three, Eye
- 36:04Speaker 1: in the Sky.
- 36:05Speaker 3: And just the eye in the sky, maker of rules
- 36:10Speaker 3: that believe you're right. Nailed it. Is that really it? Yeah.
- 36:16Speaker 1: Good, dude.
- 36:16Speaker 3: Like I just made that up.
- 36:17Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 36:18Speaker 3: You're so confident.
- 36:21Speaker 1: Rules. Good job. Nice.
- 36:24Speaker 3: This is like a TV theme.
- 36:26Speaker 1: Number two, you'll know both of these two. These are
- 36:29Speaker 1: massive songs. Men at Work at number two with, what's
- 36:32Speaker 1: the biggest Men at Work song you know?
- 36:34Speaker 3: Down Under.
- 36:35Speaker 1: The second biggest.
- 36:36Speaker 4: Okay.
- 36:38Speaker 3: I think that's it, dude. No, you know this one.
- 36:40Speaker 3: That might be it. Safety? Who can it be now?
- 36:44Speaker 1: Who can it be now?
- 36:47Speaker 5: That's a good song.
- 36:48Speaker 1: And then number one, massive.
- 36:50Speaker 3: Yeah. Melon Camp? Yeah. Jack and Diane. Jack and Diane.
- 36:57Speaker 1: Number one song on this day. October 1982.
- 37:01Speaker 3: And that was the last time the Brewers won?
- 37:05Speaker 1: Went to the World Series.
- 37:06Speaker 3: They went.
- 37:07Speaker 4: Dang.
- 37:07Speaker 3: Man, so all these fans that I've been meeting.
- 37:09Speaker 1: I don't think they won that year, but we'd have
- 37:11Speaker 1: to fact check that. I think it's just when they went,
- 37:13Speaker 1: but they could have won.
- 37:14Speaker 3: So these people that I've been seeing, they've waited that long?
- 37:18Speaker 6: Dang.
- 37:21Speaker 5: Cardinals won it.
- 37:21Speaker 1: Yeah. Okay. In that same year, the biggest celebrities were? 82.
- 37:27Speaker 3: We'll do five.
- 37:30Speaker 1: Yeah, see if you can name one of the biggest
- 37:31Speaker 1: celebrities in 1982.
- 37:35Speaker 3: 82. John Travolta's got to be one of the big celebs.
- 37:38Speaker 1: John Travolta did not make the top 10.
- 37:39Speaker 3: Kevin?
- 37:40Speaker 1: Madonna. No, probably a little early on her being a monster.
- 37:44Speaker 1: Just a little.
- 37:45Speaker 3: Brandon? Tom Selleck?
- 37:47Speaker 1: No, but I would say Tom Selleck's dad.
- 37:50Speaker 6: Oh, okay.
- 37:51Speaker 1: What?
- 37:52Speaker 3: Not his real dad. Oh, okay, okay.
- 37:53Speaker 1: But who's like Tom Selleck's dad? He's number one.
- 37:58Speaker 3: Sean Connery? Burt Reynolds. Oh, dude, that's so good. Burt Reynolds, yes.
- 38:01Speaker 1: The biggest movie star of 1982. Wow, wow, wow. Rocky
- 38:05Speaker 1: III was enormous. Okay, so Sylvester Stallone. Michael Jackson was
- 38:08Speaker 1: at three. Dolly Parton's at four. Clint Eastwood's at five.
- 38:11Speaker 3: Spielberg.
- 38:12Speaker 1: Johnny Carson at seven. Eddie Murphy. Jane Fonda and Harrison
- 38:14Speaker 1: Ford at ten.
- 38:15Speaker 3: Wow.
- 38:16Speaker 1: And the ten biggest movies released in 1982. E.T.
- 38:17Speaker 3: At one.
- 38:21Speaker 6: Huge.
- 38:21Speaker 1: Tootsie, An Officer and a Gentleman, Rocky III, Porky's.
- 38:26Speaker 3: I remember going to the movie store and seeing Porky's,
- 38:29Speaker 3: and it was like a girl in the shower and
- 38:32Speaker 3: them looking through a hole. Yeah.
- 38:35Speaker 1: I never saw Porky's. I never saw... I don't even
- 38:38Speaker 1: know that I've seen E.T. I just know the references.
- 38:40Speaker 3: Oh, dude, you have to see E.T. I don't.
- 38:41Speaker 1: I really don't have to.
- 38:42Speaker 3: You really do. That's the thing.
- 38:44Speaker 1: I don't have to.
- 38:44Speaker 3: Did you say don't?
- 38:45Speaker 4: Yeah, don't.
- 38:46Speaker 3: Why not? It's just.
- 38:48Speaker 1: I know all the references. Yeah.
- 38:49Speaker 3: I know, but wouldn't it be cool to see those
- 38:51Speaker 3: references come to life?
- 38:53Speaker 1: I don't think so, so I don't.
- 38:55Speaker 3: But I get it. So thank you, though. And then
- 38:58Speaker 3: what was the other one?
- 38:58Speaker 6: Tootsie.
- 38:59Speaker 3: Do you remember Tootsie?
- 39:00Speaker 1: Never saw it.
- 39:00Speaker 3: Dustin Hoffman? Dustin Hoffman dresses like a chick. Named Tootsie.
- 39:06Speaker 1: Figured what you said.
- 39:07Speaker 3: I feel like I watched it, but I don't remember it.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Recap of the games here, NFL-wise.
- 39:14Speaker 3: The Bears are good.
- 39:15Speaker 1: We talked about that a little bit.
- 39:17Speaker 3: Bears are good.
- 39:18Speaker 1: The Steelers and Saints, that game, it just felt like
- 39:23Speaker 1: they were playing in mud the whole time. The Steelers
- 39:25Speaker 1: aren't good. No. I think they're 5-2, and they're not good.
- 39:29Speaker 3: They keep winning.
- 39:30Speaker 4: I know.
- 39:30Speaker 3: And costing us money.
- 39:31Speaker 1: I know, but it's weird because they're not good. Nothing
- 39:33Speaker 1: they do is fast, but they keep winning. The Vikings
- 39:37Speaker 1: are still undefeated. They're the only undefeated team. Crazy. They
- 39:40Speaker 1: beat the Colts 16-10. They had to come back to
- 39:43Speaker 1: win that game, and I think the Colts are now
- 39:45Speaker 1: going to trade everybody. They may trade their mascot.
- 39:47Speaker 3: It's a good mascot.
- 39:48Speaker 1: They may trade everybody. And the Colts were just pretty
- 39:52Speaker 1: bad to almost good, but they have no chance, so
- 39:55Speaker 1: now they're just going to trade everybody.
- 39:56Speaker 3: But wasn't their kicker, like, really, he hadn't missed one,
- 39:59Speaker 3: and then he missed two?
- 39:59Speaker 8: He missed, yeah.
- 40:01Speaker 5: Is that one of the teams you guys have to lose?
- 40:02Speaker 1: Uh-huh.
- 40:02Speaker 6: Right?
- 40:03Speaker 1: Okay, good.
- 40:03Speaker 3: That's great. All right, cool.
- 40:04Speaker 1: Dolphins and Jets, who cares?
- 40:06Speaker 3: But the Dolphins win their first. They're no longer defeated.
- 40:09Speaker 3: That's true.
- 40:10Speaker 1: In any hope that the Jets had of maybe we can,
- 40:13Speaker 1: you just lost to the worst team. 0-5 or 0-6 Dolphins,
- 40:18Speaker 1: whatever they were. Bengals and Ravens, weird game. Again, I
- 40:22Speaker 1: thought Lamar was going to play until he wasn't. So
- 40:26Speaker 1: you're playing with a backup quarterback, and then Snoop only
- 40:28Speaker 1: looked good for the first half. Yeah. And then apparently
- 40:30Speaker 1: Jamar Chase wanted to give him a heck of a speech,
- 40:32Speaker 1: and they come out. And Joe Burrow threw four touchdowns,
- 40:37Speaker 1: but the Bengals are good. Browns and Titans, the Browns
- 40:41Speaker 1: also aren't good.
- 40:42Speaker 4: I know.
- 40:42Speaker 3: I thought the Titans were going to win. Me too.
- 40:44Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 40:45Speaker 5: It was actually a good game.
- 40:47Speaker 1: Here's what the Browns do every game. We kind of
- 40:49Speaker 1: suck first quarter. No, we for sure suck second quarter.
- 40:52Speaker 1: Third quarter, no, we just kind of suck again. Fourth quarter,
- 40:55Speaker 1: here we go, baby.
- 40:55Speaker 3: Put shoes on.
- 40:56Speaker 5: Get them tight.
- 40:57Speaker 3: Then Watson just goes off.
- 40:58Speaker 5: He's got the most game-winning drive.
- 41:01Speaker 1: He threw for 308 yards.
- 41:02Speaker 3: That's crazy, man.
- 41:03Speaker 1: They won it with a field goal with just a
- 41:05Speaker 1: few seconds left at the end of the game.
- 41:06Speaker 3: It was wild.
- 41:07Speaker 1: Yeah. I still think, though, that the Browns, and I
- 41:09Speaker 1: think they're in first place, but I think the Browns
- 41:11Speaker 1: and the Steelers are both posers. Right? They're the Kevins
- 41:13Speaker 1: of the NFL.
- 41:14Speaker 5: Whoa, I wouldn't go that far.
- 41:15Speaker 3: I was going to say, right?
- 41:19Speaker 1: Baker comes back, and the Bucs just kill the Panthers.
- 41:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I wasn't able to see that one. Was he
- 41:23Speaker 3: wearing a glove or something?
- 41:24Speaker 1: Yeah, a padded glove, and apparently they went to the
- 41:26Speaker 1: baseball team to get it, like to have it made.
- 41:28Speaker 3: Oh, the Rays.
- 41:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:29Speaker 3: Because they have nothing going on. nothing going on i
- 41:34Speaker 3: know you're busy but.
- 41:36Speaker 1: You're up in milwaukee but yes it's bad i mean
- 41:39Speaker 1: that game is over from the beginning yeah yeah dude
- 41:42Speaker 1: like what i thought the panthers like were a decent
- 41:44Speaker 1: team nfl this year is more than ever has been
- 41:48Speaker 1: who knows going into it bad teams are good for
- 41:51Speaker 1: a week good teams are bad the falcons beat the
- 41:53Speaker 1: 49ers that was cool how is everybody in san francisco
- 41:55Speaker 1: hurt all the time i don't get it either and
- 41:58Speaker 1: guys it's easy it's the power plant yeah the McCaffrey
- 42:01Speaker 1: goes out and looks like he's dead.
- 42:03Speaker 3: He comes back.
- 42:04Speaker 1: But everybody gets hurt.
- 42:06Speaker 3: They lose.
- 42:07Speaker 1: I mean, Pennix, he's fine to pretty good.
- 42:11Speaker 5: But they don't go out this next week and have
- 42:13Speaker 5: a horrible game.
- 42:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 42:15Speaker 1: The Giants are pretty good.
- 42:17Speaker 3: I know.
- 42:17Speaker 1: Here's the thing about the Giants.
- 42:19Speaker 3: They're pretty good.
- 42:19Speaker 1: I know.
- 42:20Speaker 3: It's scary.
- 42:20Speaker 1: I know. And their defense is good, obviously.
- 42:24Speaker 6: Also, J.J.
- 42:24Speaker 1: McCarthy's not nine. I didn't notice it last week.
- 42:28Speaker 3: He was 18. Yeah. Did he change? Like, he.
- 42:31Speaker 1: When he came to the Giants, they already had someone
- 42:33Speaker 1: wearing nine.
- 42:33Speaker 3: Got it.
- 42:34Speaker 1: I didn't notice when he went in to play some
- 42:36Speaker 1: snaps last week. Dude, he's good.
- 42:39Speaker 3: So what were they doing over there? Because I heard
- 42:41Speaker 3: Winston going in.
- 42:43Speaker 1: He had a running package. That's all I saw him
- 42:46Speaker 1: going for.
- 42:47Speaker 3: But a few times, because I heard him maybe a
- 42:50Speaker 3: couple times.
- 42:50Speaker 5: I just saw one clip of a fourth down, I believe.
- 42:53Speaker 1: Anytime I saw him in, and again, I was doing
- 42:55Speaker 1: full tickets. I was bebopping around. Although I went to
- 42:58Speaker 1: that game, especially because I went to overtime.
- 43:00Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 43:01Speaker 1: Anytime I saw him in, it was for something.
- 43:03Speaker 3: Running. Yeah.
- 43:05Speaker 1: But I only saw him in one or two plays.
- 43:08Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe two. I was driving and I kind of would,
- 43:10Speaker 3: I put on red zone while I'm driving, but I
- 43:12Speaker 3: don't watch it because I follow the rules. So I'm
- 43:14Speaker 3: just listening to it. And they're like, Winston.
- 43:16Speaker 1: Good man.
- 43:17Speaker 3: And then I'm just like, well, I wonder why he's
- 43:18Speaker 3: in there. It's kind of weird.
- 43:19Speaker 1: Will you pull up the NFC East odds, Kevin? Yeah.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Broncos beat the Cardinals. We knew that. Then it got
- 43:27Speaker 1: kind of normal. Rams 35, Raiders 21. Stafford threw for
- 43:31Speaker 1: three touchdowns. Blake Horne looked good. Yeah, he did.
- 43:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 43:36Speaker 1: Lions and Packers.
- 43:37Speaker 3: It was funny.
- 43:37Speaker 1: Whenever the Packers ended up jumping off sides and all
- 43:42Speaker 1: of the Lions started dancing across from them.
- 43:44Speaker 4: Hilarious.
- 43:44Speaker 3: Doing the dance and pointing.
- 43:46Speaker 1: Yeah, it looked like what I saw. It doesn't look
- 43:48Speaker 1: like I saw the video of it. They compared all
- 43:50Speaker 1: the characters from Snoopy doing the dance when they're all dancing.
- 43:54Speaker 1: And they were going in and out of all the
- 43:56Speaker 1: Packers dancing after they won. It was so funny.
- 43:58Speaker 3: It really was funny.
- 44:00Speaker 1: And then Seahawks just, I mean, put it to the Chiefs. Yeah.
- 44:05Speaker 3: The Chiefs tried to come back at the end there,
- 44:07Speaker 3: but just couldn't do it.
- 44:08Speaker 5: A field goal. Missed field goal.
- 44:09Speaker 1: I saw that Kenneth Walker didn't even shake hands.
- 44:11Speaker 3: He just left.
- 44:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:12Speaker 5: I was a little disappointed.
- 44:14Speaker 1: Do I really care? Nah.
- 44:16Speaker 3: You were disappointed.
- 44:16Speaker 7: Yeah, just because, I don't know, he won a Super
- 44:18Speaker 7: Bowl with them. And it's like, I get if you
- 44:19Speaker 7: don't like your GM or your owner, maybe they got
- 44:21Speaker 7: into something. But at least a couple of your teammates
- 44:23Speaker 7: that you played with.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 44:24Speaker 3: That's all.
- 44:25Speaker 1: Maybe he didn't like anybody. Oof.
- 44:27Speaker 3: What do you got?
- 44:28Speaker 1: Let me see if I can guess.
- 44:29Speaker 3: You know it.
- 44:30Speaker 1: Because I would bet you that the Giants aren't beating
- 44:32Speaker 1: Dallas yet. It's going to be based on tonight's game.
- 44:34Speaker 5: Oh, interesting.
- 44:34Speaker 1: So I'm still going to have the Cowboys, then the Giants.
- 44:40Speaker 3: But wouldn't the Giants go up because they do have
- 44:42Speaker 3: proof of their win? I don't know.
- 44:44Speaker 1: I don't know the answer.
- 44:45Speaker 3: That'd be my guess.
- 44:45Speaker 1: So I'm going to go Cowboys still because the betters
- 44:49Speaker 1: are ridiculous.
- 44:50Speaker 3: Giants, they're pretty good.
- 44:52Speaker 1: Commanders, Eagles.
- 44:55Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 44:56Speaker 3: What do you got?
- 44:57Speaker 5: Flip the first two.
- 44:58Speaker 3: It's the Giants?
- 44:59Speaker 5: It is the Giants, yeah.
- 45:00Speaker 3: How close are they?
- 45:00Speaker 5: Plus 115 and the Cowboys are plus 154. So very close.
- 45:03Speaker 3: So very close.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Wow, they're right. Okay, so the Giants are up. But
- 45:07Speaker 1: if the Cowboys win tonight, they'll jump.
- 45:08Speaker 3: They'll switch that, you think?
- 45:09Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 45:09Speaker 1: Yeah. I think I'm going to make a future on
- 45:12Speaker 1: the Giants winning that division.
- 45:15Speaker 3: But don't you have the Cowboys?
- 45:16Speaker 1: Winning the Super Bowl. And also, you can't let your
- 45:19Speaker 1: past bets, they already exist.
- 45:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I get that.
- 45:23Speaker 1: They don't cancel each other out. All right, we've got
- 45:25Speaker 1: a cool interview with the coach coming up. All right,
- 45:33Speaker 1: let's bring in App State head football coach, Dow Loggins.
- 45:36Speaker 1: Coach spent 16 years in the NFL, including stops with
- 45:38Speaker 1: the Bears and Dolphins and Jets before making the move
- 45:41Speaker 1: to college football. He's in his second season at App State. Coach,
- 45:45Speaker 1: my first question is, how in the world do you
- 45:48Speaker 1: keep your team from being so hyped going into the
- 45:50Speaker 1: next game?
- 45:51Speaker 6: Yeah, that's the challenge of the coach is, so you
- 45:55Speaker 6: win this Thursday night game, massive, massive win, great atmosphere,
- 45:59Speaker 6: great crowd, student section, rush the field. And now they've been,
- 46:03Speaker 6: as the kids say, glazed all week. And a lot
- 46:06Speaker 6: of pats on the back. So now we've got to
- 46:08Speaker 6: get ready to go play our biggest rival in Georgia Southern.
- 46:11Speaker 6: Coach Parcells used to talk about this, Bobby. It's a
- 46:16Speaker 6: rock in your shoe mentality. You just drop a little
- 46:18Speaker 6: pebble in your shoe. And every time you feel that
- 46:21Speaker 6: little pain, you've got to make sure you're coaching somebody.
- 46:25Speaker 6: You've got to continue to control the narrative. Because in
- 46:28Speaker 6: the instant gratification world that we live in, everyone's you know,
- 46:33Speaker 6: going to live on next week instead of turn the
- 46:34Speaker 6: page or last week instead of turn the page and
- 46:37Speaker 6: go on.
- 46:38Speaker 1: Were you able to see, though, a bit of how
- 46:39Speaker 1: your team would react after a big win? Because the
- 46:41Speaker 1: week before, again, you guys were able to kind of
- 46:44Speaker 1: to pull that off in a dramatic fashion.
- 46:46Speaker 3: Then you do it again.
- 46:47Speaker 1: Is there a little bit of you that sees your
- 46:48Speaker 1: team after a big win kind of refocus so you
- 46:51Speaker 1: know a bit of what you're dealing with now?
- 46:53Speaker 6: Yeah, I think that what we've done is we've been
- 46:55Speaker 6: able to handle some adversity. You know, we go into
- 46:58Speaker 6: the halftime at Coastal, we're down 10 points and we
- 47:01Speaker 6: played played really bad last two and a half minutes.
- 47:04Speaker 4: Of that, that half.
- 47:06Speaker 6: And then to be able to respond the way we
- 47:07Speaker 6: didn't come back and win the football game versus rival.
- 47:10Speaker 6: And then you go play a Thursday night game where you're,
- 47:14Speaker 6: you know, 14 point underdogs or whatever it was. And
- 47:18Speaker 6: there was no one in this building or this locker
- 47:19Speaker 6: room that believed that we weren't going to win that
- 47:21Speaker 6: football game.
- 47:22Speaker 4: We felt like we were the better team.
- 47:24Speaker 6: We felt like we were the most prepared team and
- 47:25Speaker 6: been trained and been through some hard things together. So yeah,
- 47:29Speaker 6: I do think there's that. You've been able to deal
- 47:31Speaker 6: with prosperity or with adversity, but now you've got to
- 47:34Speaker 6: figure out how to deal with prosperity. And the Coastal
- 47:37Speaker 6: win was big, but now this one was even– it
- 47:40Speaker 6: was just more– it was national TV.
- 47:43Speaker 4: It was the way the game was won.
- 47:44Speaker 6: It was versus a media darling that everyone was talking about,
- 47:48Speaker 6: college football playoff. So now there's a little bit of
- 47:50Speaker 6: humbling and hungriness that needs to come back into play
- 47:54Speaker 6: to get ready for this next one, which will be
- 47:55Speaker 6: a big one for us because it is our rival.
- 47:57Speaker 1: I was looking at you guys' offense through the season
- 48:01Speaker 1: so far. You're averaging around 30 points a game, if
- 48:03Speaker 1: not a little bit more. So what are you guys
- 48:07Speaker 1: doing offensively to score so many points?
- 48:08Speaker 4: I think it's the quarterback.
- 48:10Speaker 6: I think if you take away that one game that
- 48:11Speaker 6: we didn't play very well in a monsoon against.
- 48:14Speaker 4: ODU, we've been scoring points and we've been throwing the
- 48:16Speaker 4: football really well.
- 48:17Speaker 6: But it's Malachi Singleton, who we signed that was at Purdue,
- 48:21Speaker 6: was at Arkansas before that.
- 48:22Speaker 4: He had a great career there.
- 48:25Speaker 6: You know, playing some big games, the SEC and the
- 48:27Speaker 6: Big Ten, but playing at a very high level.
- 48:29Speaker 4: And look, every offense, every team is going to be
- 48:31Speaker 4: as good as the quarterback is. So we have him.
- 48:34Speaker 6: And then we also have another quarterback, Henry Hasselbeck, who
- 48:36Speaker 6: I coached his dad with the Titans. Matthew was with
- 48:39Speaker 6: the Titans those nine years and eight years. And he's
- 48:42Speaker 6: been able to come in as Mally's been getting through
- 48:45Speaker 6: injury and playing through some things and also giving us
- 48:48Speaker 6: a shot in the arm is Because right now we
- 48:50Speaker 6: are a pass rush football team. We're not running the
- 48:52Speaker 6: football the way we want to be able to run
- 48:53Speaker 6: the football. And Henry gives us a little life that
- 48:56Speaker 6: way for his ability to have the plus one quarterback
- 49:00Speaker 6: run game.
- 49:01Speaker 1: Has that plus one quarterback been the most needed it's
- 49:05Speaker 1: ever been needed now in today's game?
- 49:07Speaker 4: Absolutely, Bobby. I don't know how people do it without it.
- 49:10Speaker 6: You have to have a special offensive line, a special
- 49:13Speaker 6: running back. It puts more pressure on everyone to be
- 49:16Speaker 6: able to sit on a spot and throw the end
- 49:20Speaker 6: today's college football, it makes defenses defend 53 and a third,
- 49:24Speaker 6: which I think is such a big, big part of
- 49:27Speaker 6: playing winning offense and being a good football team.
- 49:31Speaker 1: So you guys had 66 new players, transfers and freshmen.
- 49:36Speaker 1: At what week, usually now that you've done this a
- 49:38Speaker 1: couple of years, at what week does it start to
- 49:40Speaker 1: gel where you feel comfortable with the team?
- 49:43Speaker 4: I think the last two weeks.
- 49:44Speaker 6: We've had some big wins, like beating East Carolina on
- 49:47Speaker 6: the road, being underdogs there. Took NC State down to
- 49:51Speaker 6: the fourth quarter. I mean, it's a tie game in
- 49:52Speaker 6: the fourth quarter, 31-31. Then you lose a game. You
- 49:57Speaker 6: have a bye, and then you lose a game that,
- 49:59Speaker 6: in my opinion, we should have won. And like I said,
- 50:01Speaker 6: we dealt with some conditions. But you can see how
- 50:04Speaker 6: in that moment, okay, how are we going to respond?
- 50:06Speaker 4: And come out and.
- 50:07Speaker 6: Beat coastal the way we did coming from behind. And
- 50:10Speaker 6: then you go play JMU. So I think every week.
- 50:13Speaker 4: Teaches you something about your football team. I think it,
- 50:16Speaker 4: I think a team decides.
- 50:17Speaker 6: Who it is through demonstrated ability on Saturdays and Thursday
- 50:21Speaker 6: nights and Friday nights in the Sunbelt on the field.
- 50:23Speaker 6: And I think they, it was a connected group. We
- 50:25Speaker 6: worked really hard with all the new players that we
- 50:27Speaker 6: had to build a connection.
- 50:29Speaker 4: We've done a things from going.
- 50:31Speaker 6: To Hendricks motorsports to, uh, Every Thursday I have a
- 50:34Speaker 6: different group in my house, you know, feeding pizza wings,
- 50:38Speaker 6: just trying to get closer as a team, trying to
- 50:40Speaker 6: do all those little things that you have to do
- 50:43Speaker 6: to create connection. But none of it matters if you
- 50:46Speaker 6: don't win on Saturdays. So I think the team determines
- 50:49Speaker 6: who it is on Saturdays, do demonstrated ability.
- 50:52Speaker 4: And that's how you build confidence.
- 50:54Speaker 6: And as you start to grow together and you start
- 50:55Speaker 6: to figure out, you have to build– one thing when
- 50:57Speaker 6: I was coaching Matt House back.
- 50:59Speaker 4: In 2011, he said you have to win– You have
- 51:02Speaker 4: to win as you build. You can't be the coach
- 51:04Speaker 4: that says it's close. It's close. We're almost there.
- 51:06Speaker 6: We're going to get there. You have to win as
- 51:08Speaker 6: you build. We found ways to win games, and I'm
- 51:10Speaker 6: not happy with where we're at. We're 5-2. I think
- 51:13Speaker 6: our kids have played really hard, and I think they believe,
- 51:15Speaker 6: and I think they have a resilience that I'm really
- 51:18Speaker 6: proud of. But we are winning as we build, and
- 51:21Speaker 6: it gives us more time to continue to grow this roster,
- 51:24Speaker 6: develop our players, continue to recruit great players. But at
- 51:28Speaker 6: the end of the day, this is a production business,
- 51:30Speaker 6: and you have to show growth to continue to sell
- 51:34Speaker 6: the vision you have and continue to get people to
- 51:36Speaker 6: buy into it. So I'm proud of our team for
- 51:39Speaker 6: buying into that as well.
- 51:40Speaker 1: What does your phone look like after a dramatic win
- 51:43Speaker 1: of a nationally televised game?
- 51:44Speaker 4: 2,185 text messages.
- 51:46Speaker 6: And I'm going to say this because you and I text.
- 51:52Speaker 4: I return to every one of them.
- 51:54Speaker 6: Wow.
- 51:54Speaker 4: Every single one of them.
- 51:55Speaker 6: And now look, you're on an adrenaline high for about
- 51:58Speaker 6: 24 hours where you can't sleep.
- 52:00Speaker 4: I got home at one 40. I had to FaceTime
- 52:03Speaker 4: one of my players.
- 52:04Speaker 6: Um, they got hurt in the game and, uh, it's that,
- 52:07Speaker 6: that part's hard cause he's in tears and I'm in
- 52:09Speaker 6: tears and it's, he played his butt off and, uh,
- 52:11Speaker 6: probably gonna be down for a while. And, uh, but then,
- 52:14Speaker 6: and the techs are just, they're just, they're coming in
- 52:17Speaker 6: and look, it makes you grateful for the journey you're on,
- 52:20Speaker 6: the people, the relationships you make in this process.
- 52:23Speaker 4: And, uh, It's the greatest game in the world. There's
- 52:25Speaker 4: nothing like it.
- 52:26Speaker 6: And there's nothing like those celebrated locker rooms after big wins.
- 52:31Speaker 6: There's nothing like that. But, you know, it.
- 52:34Speaker 4: Gets lonely when you don't win.
- 52:36Speaker 6: You get maybe four text messages and it's from your
- 52:38Speaker 6: mom and dad and your closest friends saying, hey, sorry,
- 52:41Speaker 6: or hey, thinking about you. But to get a big
- 52:44Speaker 6: win like that and have the relationships that we've built
- 52:47Speaker 6: through this whole exciting journey, it was awesome.
- 52:51Speaker 1: I've heard coaches say, Similar things to what you said.
- 52:54Speaker 1: When it's going well, you're popping, everybody's hitting you. When
- 52:57Speaker 1: it's not, they don't. But let me ask you this.
- 52:59Speaker 1: Why are we supposed to text our buddy that loses?
- 53:02Speaker 4: Yeah, it sucks to be you, bro. I mean, it is.
- 53:06Speaker 6: There's nothing that you can say that makes a coach
- 53:09Speaker 6: or a competitor feel better.
- 53:12Speaker 4: There's not.
- 53:13Speaker 6: That's what it is. You know because you're a sports guy.
- 53:18Speaker 6: You know how hard it is to find a win. Um,
- 53:21Speaker 6: you know, you also know how crushing a loss can be.
- 53:24Speaker 6: And as a coach, you go back to this. The
- 53:26Speaker 6: only thing you care about is the psyche of the team.
- 53:28Speaker 6: And that's what you're thinking about is how do I
- 53:30Speaker 6: get these guys past this and win the next game?
- 53:33Speaker 6: Coach Parcells used to talk about the psychology of result.
- 53:35Speaker 6: Sometimes you win and you don't play well. Sometimes you
- 53:38Speaker 6: win and you play really well. And then now all
- 53:41Speaker 6: of a sudden you're overconfident and there's the, the, sometimes
- 53:44Speaker 6: you lose and you play well.
- 53:45Speaker 4: Sometimes you lose and you don't play well.
- 53:47Speaker 6: It's really all games fall into one of those four
- 53:49Speaker 6: categories of, And as a coach, you're managing that more
- 53:52Speaker 6: important than you're managing.
- 53:54Speaker 4: Who texts you, who you didn't get texts from.
- 53:57Speaker 6: When you do win and you're a head coach, you
- 53:59Speaker 6: do get some cool texts from cool people.
- 54:03Speaker 4: And that part's fun.
- 54:04Speaker 6: But you only get those texts when you prepare the
- 54:08Speaker 6: right way and you go out and you win games.
- 54:10Speaker 1: So if and when you guys eventually drop one this year,
- 54:14Speaker 1: next year, who knows, five years, and I send a
- 54:17Speaker 1: sucks for you, bro, we're good.
- 54:19Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, look, I was in Chicago. I was
- 54:21Speaker 6: a coordinator for the Cubs, and they won the World Series.
- 54:23Speaker 6: And Joe Maddon was there. He was like, hey, we're
- 54:25Speaker 6: just trying not to suck. And that was like his
- 54:27Speaker 6: team philosophy or motto or whatever. And, hey, sucks to
- 54:32Speaker 6: be you is understood by it.
- 54:37Speaker 1: What about whenever you have a hot week, are you
- 54:38Speaker 1: able to use this to raise money? Like, okay, you're popping,
- 54:42Speaker 1: so let me hit some of the boosters up that
- 54:44Speaker 1: maybe you're thinking about donating.
- 54:46Speaker 4: Oh, look, Bobby, you know this. You know this better
- 54:49Speaker 4: than anyone, man.
- 54:50Speaker 6: Like this is a production business and you have to
- 54:53Speaker 6: win as you build or you will.
- 54:55Speaker 4: Like I can't sit here and say, guys, we're close. Hey,
- 54:58Speaker 4: I can't sell that.
- 54:59Speaker 6: Hey, we have the number one class in the history
- 55:00Speaker 6: of our conference and recruiting. If I'm not winning, they
- 55:03Speaker 6: don't care. They want to see the direction it's going.
- 55:06Speaker 6: They want to see wins. So when you do win,
- 55:09Speaker 6: it gives you a bigger platform because look, the economy
- 55:12Speaker 6: is better. The food tastes better. The community is making
- 55:15Speaker 6: more money. And people want to give when all of
- 55:18Speaker 6: a sudden it's like, hey, they're five and two. They
- 55:20Speaker 6: just beat JMU on national TV.
- 55:22Speaker 4: It is going the right direction.
- 55:24Speaker 6: All of a sudden that phone conversation turns a little
- 55:26Speaker 6: bit different and people are more willing to give. It's
- 55:30Speaker 6: a show me business. You're asking people to donate money.
- 55:33Speaker 6: It's like, Hey, don't tell me about it.
- 55:35Speaker 4: Show me. You've got to show me that you're fixing
- 55:37Speaker 4: this program. You've got to show me that you guys
- 55:39Speaker 4: are building it.
- 55:40Speaker 6: You've got to show me that you guys can beat
- 55:42Speaker 6: the big opponents on national TV. So I think that's
- 55:45Speaker 6: a huge part of it. If you lose those close games,
- 55:48Speaker 6: people get tired of hearing, hey, we're close. We're close.
- 55:51Speaker 6: We're trying to sell a vision. We're not trying to
- 55:52Speaker 6: sell hope. Hope's not a strategy. And you can sell winning.
- 55:56Speaker 6: So wins like this, the last two wins, have helped
- 55:59Speaker 6: us to get to 5-2. And now we've got to
- 56:01Speaker 6: go on the road and beat our rival. Georgia Southern,
- 56:05Speaker 6: on the road, and they're well-coached, and they're a talented team.
- 56:07Speaker 6: But without a doubt, the only thing that sells is winning.
- 56:11Speaker 1: Final question, what's Boone like?
- 56:13Speaker 4: Boone is a great place. Good people. It is small.
- 56:18Speaker 6: If you like mounds, if you like outdoors, I think
- 56:21Speaker 6: you would love this. I think you and your wife
- 56:22Speaker 6: would love to come up on a visit and check
- 56:24Speaker 6: us out. There's some great spots. It is a football place,
- 56:31Speaker 6: and we care about it a lot. they will tell
- 56:34Speaker 6: you their expectations. We're playing Coastal, one of our biggest
- 56:36Speaker 6: donors who I have so much respect for, former player here,
- 56:40Speaker 6: self-made man, Tommy Sofield. He goes, let's win by 14.
- 56:44Speaker 6: I was like, we hadn't beat Coastal in four years.
- 56:47Speaker 6: We're not just happy with one. We just win by one.
- 56:50Speaker 6: We won't be happy. But the place like this is
- 56:53Speaker 6: what makes the app awesome is there's an expectation. And
- 56:56Speaker 6: there's only expectations if there's been previous success. When I
- 56:59Speaker 6: took the job, my thought was, Wherever there's been tradition,
- 57:03Speaker 6: wherever there's a past, it can be recreated. So everyone's like, hey,
- 57:06Speaker 6: why are you leaving South Carolina? You've got this great quarterback.
- 57:10Speaker 6: You're a game away, inches away from being in the
- 57:12Speaker 6: college football playoff. You just beat Clemson. And that was
- 57:14Speaker 6: my thought is, hey, wherever there's tradition, it can be recreated.
- 57:18Speaker 6: If there's no tradition, it cannot be built back to
- 57:21Speaker 6: what you want it to be.
- 57:22Speaker 4: So it's a cool place. I definitely think you need
- 57:24Speaker 4: to come out here and check out a game day.
- 57:26Speaker 4: I think you'd enjoy it. And I think we'd have
- 57:28Speaker 4: a blast doing it.
- 57:29Speaker 1: Yeah, the problem is, and I agree. You don't have
- 57:31Speaker 1: to recruit me, Coach. You're like my main backup. I
- 57:35Speaker 1: text you all the time.
- 57:37Speaker 6: I'm number six. I'm trying to get in the top five,
- 57:40Speaker 6: and you got me at six. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 57:42Speaker 3: That's okay, though.
- 57:43Speaker 1: But I follow. I watch at least parts of every game.
- 57:46Speaker 1: But here's my point with that is it's weird for
- 57:48Speaker 1: me because if I'm like, hey, Coach, I want to
- 57:51Speaker 1: come to a game, and then you lose, that's awkward
- 57:54Speaker 1: for me to be there as a guest on a
- 57:57Speaker 1: losing game.
- 57:58Speaker 4: Well, then we got to win.
- 58:00Speaker 3: I agree.
- 58:01Speaker 4: Hey, put the ball on my court. I believe in
- 58:04Speaker 4: this football team.
- 58:05Speaker 6: You tell me when you want to come, we'll set
- 58:06Speaker 6: you up.
- 58:07Speaker 1: He promises a win. 1969 Joe Namath guarantees a victory. Hey, Coach,
- 58:14Speaker 1: continued success. Obviously, I've been watching and rooting for you
- 58:17Speaker 1: guys all year. Love to see what you're building there.
- 58:20Speaker 1: And hopefully we'll talk to you again soon. Love to
- 58:22Speaker 1: see it, Coach. Have a great rest of the week.
- 58:24Speaker 4: Appreciate it.
- 58:24Speaker 6: A ton of respect for you and everything you've accomplished
- 58:26Speaker 6: and continue with your.
- 58:27Speaker 4: Success, man.
- 58:28Speaker 3: Thanks, Coach. See you later.

- 59:46Speaker 1: Clemson lost again.
- 59:47Speaker 3: I know. I know, dude. I mean, how does anyone
- 59:51Speaker 3: argue the curse? No one can argue.
- 59:54Speaker 1: For those that don't know the curse, it's the wind
- 59:56Speaker 1: chime curse of our show. Since we did that, we
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: looked at the date. They've started sucking.
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: Now, it could be a myriad of things. It could
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: be lack of NIL, not embracing the transfer portal.
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: Nope.
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: It's the wind chime curse. Yep. Thank you. There it is.
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: Now, here's my question.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: Can Davo just come and talk to you, do an interview,
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: and all this go away?
- 1:00:21Speaker 6: Yes.
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: Like, why doesn't anyone in his circle hear this and
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: be like, Coach, you have to go on this show?
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: Because they don't believe it.
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: How do you not believe it? The proof is in
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: the wind chimes. Exactly.
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: Nice.
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: That's the saying.
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: Nice, dude.
- 1:00:35Speaker 5: Put it on a shirt.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: Really good. That's the saying.
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: That's crazy, guys.
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: So I like Clemson fans. I don't even dislike Clemson,
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: the football team.
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: I had to do what I had to do.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: And you guys remember last week, I wind chimed Baylor
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: and you saw what happened. And the week before that,
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: I wind chimed Maryland and North Carolina State.
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: Yes. They all lost their coaches.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:57Speaker 5: Gabbo, you're listening.
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: Yeah. It's real.
- 1:00:59Speaker 5: Yeah, you want to keep your job.
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: It's a real thing.
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: Well, I don't know, but I'm just saying you lose.
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: Okay. Well, you're obviously losing, man. Something needs to change.
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: You lose.
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: I did see that Luke Bryan's son committed to Georgia.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: I knew he got the offer. Yes. But he committed.
- 1:01:13Speaker 5: Good for him.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: Good for him.
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: Hey, When I read comments, and I shouldn't read comments,
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: but when I read comments, every single comment is like, well, yeah,
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: no crap. His dad gives so much money to the university.
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: Is anyone going to believe that, oh, okay, cool, they
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: really do want him because he's a good quarterback?
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: My answer to that would be, who cares what people believe?
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: They're going to say what they say. I would like
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: to see the other three-star quarterbacks that they've recruited. Yeah. Also,
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: he could have such a high upside with the limited
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: time starting. There's just a lot of factors here.
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: It's just like everyone's hating. Everyone is hating on this.
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: Checks out.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: Everybody hates on everything. Especially if it's good for someone else.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: Everybody hates on everything.
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: It's good for someone else.
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: That's it.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: Thanks to Coach Dal Loggins. Thanks to John Talti.
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: Thanks to you guys. Thank you, man. All of you.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: Thank you for being here. And we will see you
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: guys later in the week. Please go over to YouTube.
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: We really could use the YouTube followers. We have 11.
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: That's it? We only have 11? Pretty much. Guys, come on.
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: We have more than that. But we really have very few.
- 1:02:29Speaker 7: I'm going to make some burner accounts right now.
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: I started thinking, like, why do we even do this?
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: Well, our audio does really well.
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: Okay. Our video.
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: At 25 whistles on YouTube. Man, we'd appreciate that.
