- 0:00Speaker 1: I just want to do a quick passover. They killed him.
- 0:03Speaker 1: So sad.
- 0:06Speaker 2: They killed him. We're sad. Anyway, Hello and welcome to you.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Made the review Beat with You with Nick and Joe.
- 0:14Speaker 1: I'm Joe, I'm Nick, And today.
- 0:17Speaker 2: We are talking about Disney Fluss's Marvel's news show Daredevil
- 0:22Speaker 2: Born Again, Charlie Cox born again as the blind Hero.
- 0:27Speaker 2: He's back, He's Daredevil. We're on episode four, sick Sempra systema,
- 0:33Speaker 2: and we have thoughts, lots of thoughts. Nick, we're coming
- 0:38Speaker 2: off fresh from this episode. How are you feeling.
- 0:42Speaker 1: The show's insane? It is insane. I feel like at
- 0:48Speaker 1: any minute, Murdoch and Kingpin are going to absolutely snap,
- 0:53Speaker 1: and we kind of got some of that during this episode.
- 0:57Speaker 1: We were really close to complete breakage on both their
- 1:02Speaker 1: mental blocks. Yeah, this was every week. This show's got
- 1:08Speaker 1: something more shocking towards the end, which is awesome.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Yeah, today we had a fake out ending, which I
- 1:15Speaker 2: think that's the first time. That's the first time at
- 1:18Speaker 2: least this show has done that. I don't recall the
- 1:20Speaker 2: original Daredevil show ever doing that. It could be wrong
- 1:23Speaker 2: about that. I'm a little hazy on season three, but yeah,
- 1:27Speaker 2: we got the cut to black and then immediate cut
- 1:30Speaker 2: to our overall season villain, which we'll get into in
- 1:35Speaker 2: a little bit. But yeah, I'm right there with you.
- 1:38Speaker 2: This show continues to surprise. I know going into this show,
- 1:42Speaker 2: one of the big worries, big concerns was the migration
- 1:46Speaker 2: of this show from Netflix to Disney. Plus was it
- 1:51Speaker 2: going to be able to retain the same level of
- 1:53Speaker 2: like shock and violence that Daredevil, the Netflix TV show
- 1:58Speaker 2: was known for, And pretty early on the answer was yes,
- 2:03Speaker 2: pretty early on.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Big yes, Yeah, there's been no there's no issues there.
- 2:11Speaker 1: I think from an audience perspective, we're extremely happy with
- 2:14Speaker 1: how this has turned out, especially from a violence perspective.
- 2:17Speaker 1: There's been no slowing down. If anything, we've taken another level,
- 2:21Speaker 1: maybe got to step up potentially. I'm enjoying it.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Very No. No, No, one's head has gotten smashed into
- 2:27Speaker 2: my knowledge.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Well, that's because technically we haven't seen Daredevil since the
- 2:32Speaker 1: very very opening of episode one. You know, we've gotten
- 2:36Speaker 1: Matt Murdoch in his in his law school attire beating
- 2:39Speaker 1: up a couple cops, but we haven't seen Daredevil since
- 2:43Speaker 1: the first like ten minutes of episode one, So there's
- 2:46Speaker 1: a limit of the head smashing without it.
- 2:49Speaker 2: To be fair, I'm not referencing a Daredevil head smash.
- 2:51Speaker 2: I am referencing a Kingpin car door head smashed. I
- 2:55Speaker 2: don't know if you remember that. I want to say,
- 2:57Speaker 2: it's a round episode four, episode five of the original
- 2:59Speaker 2: series where we get the legendary Vincent Diinafrio just starts
- 3:05Speaker 2: smashing a dude's head in with a car door.
- 3:07Speaker 1: It is I don't I don't remember that. We'll clip
- 3:09Speaker 1: that in. I don't remember that.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Sorry if I just awoke in a repressed memory. It
- 3:20Speaker 2: is it is? It is violent.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Well, no, it's just that, like Kingpin's been through so
- 3:24Speaker 1: much since that moment that there's a lot of other
- 3:27Speaker 1: things that come to mind when it comes to Kingpin,
- 3:30Speaker 1: and uh, it's it's really cool how Disney has brought
- 3:35Speaker 1: these characters like into you know, kept them in in
- 3:39Speaker 1: the MCU, and then brought them like basically into our
- 3:42Speaker 1: universe here. We've gotten some cool references through the first
- 3:45Speaker 1: four episodes, Like there was a Spider Man reference a
- 3:47Speaker 1: couple I think it was episode two, we had a scroll.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Did you see the scroll reference in episode four today?
- 3:55Speaker 1: So they're giving us some cool little tidbits here, bringing them,
- 3:59Speaker 1: bringing them fully into the MU and it's exciting.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that's when I feel like, that's when
- 4:05Speaker 2: these shows work best, is when, not necessarily when we're
- 4:09Speaker 2: getting like, you know, the exciting crossover. I mean, obviously
- 4:11Speaker 2: we all love that, but when this world feels alive
- 4:15Speaker 2: and it feels like all the other stories are moving
- 4:18Speaker 2: tangently with this story, right, they're all influencing each other.
- 4:22Speaker 2: That's that's when this feels most exciting and actually like
- 4:27Speaker 2: worth all the time and money that we you know,
- 4:29Speaker 2: spend on all of this. Right, So just a real
- 4:32Speaker 2: quick knockout on six Sixtembra SYSTEMA laden, I got a
- 4:38Speaker 2: brush up on it. But from a quick translation, what
- 4:40Speaker 2: we learned was all roads lead to the system. Thus
- 4:45Speaker 2: the system is what the translation of that is. And
- 4:50Speaker 2: it appears to be a reference to the conversation that
- 4:53Speaker 2: Frank and Matt Murdoch have, which, by the way, John
- 4:57Speaker 2: birthall back as Frank Castle right right, just oh man.
- 5:03Speaker 1: It's amazing. That scene was intense, man like, yes, and
- 5:09Speaker 1: the only character that can bring out like the true
- 5:12Speaker 1: feeling that Murdock's been basically just like keeping inside him
- 5:15Speaker 1: for years is Castle. Of course, the only person that
- 5:19Speaker 1: can bring out the true feelings is the guy's basically
- 5:22Speaker 1: been through something extremely similar himself. What a scene like.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Yes, yes, And you know what, I'm so glad that
- 5:29Speaker 2: we're talking about the series on a hole like today
- 5:32Speaker 2: after this episode has come out, because I feel like,
- 5:35Speaker 2: in talking about Frank and Matt's conversation, you can kind
- 5:39Speaker 2: of directly parallel that with the phenomenal scene from episode
- 5:43Speaker 2: one where Charlie Cox and Vincent Jenoffrio are in the
- 5:47Speaker 2: diner together and they're having their scene. Those scenes very
- 5:52Speaker 2: similar yet extremely different, right, Like they're basically at least
- 5:58Speaker 2: like what the scene is trying to convey is very
- 6:00Speaker 2: similar as to characters trying to probe each other, right,
- 6:03Speaker 2: that's the goal of both scenes Whereas the first scene
- 6:07Speaker 2: with Fisk and Murdoch is it's very like it's a
- 6:11Speaker 2: mental like chess game, you know, they're just going tit
- 6:13Speaker 2: for tat, right, Whereas it's just a verbal emotional brawl
- 6:20Speaker 2: with Frank and Matt, you know, and just like just
- 6:24Speaker 2: nothing but absolute honesty coming out. Whereas apparently Frank are
- 6:28Speaker 2: not Frank but Fisk and Matt they're lying, but are
- 6:32Speaker 2: they lying to each other or themselves? It's it's kind
- 6:34Speaker 2: of hard to say in that scene, whereas in this
- 6:37Speaker 2: scene with Frank, Matt's lying to himself and Frank is
- 6:40Speaker 2: just calling bs the whole time. It is. It is
- 6:43Speaker 2: a phenomenal scene, and it's really cool to think about
- 6:45Speaker 2: both of those scenes lining up together and how how
- 6:48Speaker 2: different they are because of the characters involved.
- 6:51Speaker 1: The characters and then acting performances in the show. So far,
- 6:56Speaker 1: so good, especially when it's like a dual, when it's like,
- 7:01Speaker 1: you know, essentially two characters really driving the scene each time, right,
- 7:04Speaker 1: Like you're mentioning the scene from episode one with Kingpin
- 7:08Speaker 1: and Murdoch and then of course this one in episode
- 7:10Speaker 1: four with Castle and Murdoch again. But then the couples
- 7:15Speaker 1: therapy scenes. Who knew couples therapy could be so riveting?
- 7:18Speaker 1: The couples therapy scenes between Kingpin and Vanessa like so good, right,
- 7:23Speaker 1: and the tension is like you're just waiting for it
- 7:26Speaker 1: to like snap here, right, And of course we get
- 7:28Speaker 1: a crazy reveal at the end of this episode four
- 7:31Speaker 1: about what happened to Adam, which like could have bet
- 7:36Speaker 1: all the money in the world that he was definitely
- 7:37Speaker 1: dead somewhere, but no, it's much worse than being dead.
- 7:42Speaker 1: This is being kept in the prison inside Kingpin's like
- 7:47Speaker 1: penthouse aren't real, right, like what? But yeah, the performances
- 7:52Speaker 1: are just they're amazing. It's it's a fantastic it's fantastic.
- 7:57Speaker 2: So I mean to get at that ending though that
- 8:01Speaker 2: you're talking about, and again it is it's another like
- 8:07Speaker 2: scene where you can kind of parallel what happened in
- 8:09Speaker 2: episode one where you have these two non dialogue scenes
- 8:14Speaker 2: running together right between Matt and Fisk, and it feels like,
- 8:21Speaker 2: more so than the original Dared Devil show, this show
- 8:23Speaker 2: really wants these two characters to be like parallel to
- 8:26Speaker 2: each other as much as possible, Like Vincent Denafrio is
- 8:29Speaker 2: as much at the star of this shows as Charlie Cox.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Yeah, and at.
- 8:33Speaker 2: The end of episode one, you have that great scene
- 8:36Speaker 2: where you have Fisk on the building like accepting his
- 8:40Speaker 2: victory right and overlooking New York and he's basked in
- 8:44Speaker 2: this white light, right and Matt's on the ground in
- 8:48Speaker 2: the street with the chaos and he just has that
- 8:51Speaker 2: red light flashing in the side of his face almost
- 8:53Speaker 2: like the violent nature is like calling him back right,
- 8:57Speaker 2: And then you have the end of this episode where
- 9:00Speaker 2: Fisk is he's he's done right, He's he's back to
- 9:05Speaker 2: just being Kingpin and doing things the way he wants
- 9:08Speaker 2: and reconciling with that violent nature that he has. And
- 9:12Speaker 2: Matt same thing. He's on the roof, he's practicing, he's
- 9:15Speaker 2: getting ready to like go do what he does best, right,
- 9:18Speaker 2: reconcile with the violent nature.
- 9:21Speaker 1: They're both they're both coming home.
- 9:23Speaker 2: They're both coming home, and they're both born again.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Born again. Yeah, exactly, And so the title of the
- 9:29Speaker 1: show presents itself, are they are.
- 9:31Speaker 2: They really born again?
- 9:32Speaker 1: Though?
- 9:32Speaker 2: I mean, like I get what we're going for here,
- 9:34Speaker 2: but like the beginning is we're different, and then three
- 9:38Speaker 2: episodes later, it's we're not different, where it's vacation.
- 9:41Speaker 1: It was a long vacation. They had a great time,
- 9:44Speaker 1: except they didn't. And now we're back and we're ready
- 9:46Speaker 1: to go, and just in time because next week is
- 9:49Speaker 1: a two episode release, we'll get five and six back
- 9:52Speaker 1: to back, probably because we're gonna see Daredevil in his
- 9:59Speaker 1: entirety next week, probably gonna see Kingpin kill someone too.
- 10:01Speaker 1: We're gonna stay along the line of they're both basically
- 10:04Speaker 1: doing the same thing, just in their own way. Then
- 10:07Speaker 1: Daredevil's putting the suit on and Kingpin's gonna do some killing,
- 10:11Speaker 1: and you know, everything's gonna be back to how it was.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Oh boy, there goes Kingpin killing again. Yeah. The reveal
- 10:20Speaker 2: of Adam in the cage, I don't know why I
- 10:22Speaker 2: didn't see that coming. I mean, I figured he did
- 10:25Speaker 2: something to Adam. I just didn't think we know he.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Was something like most likely six feet under right, right,
- 10:32Speaker 1: that is so much worse. He's just dude, have long
- 10:35Speaker 1: hair too. I don't know what Adam looked like when
- 10:36Speaker 1: he was, you know, messing around with r but like
- 10:38Speaker 1: I'm assuming he's been in that cage for a while.
- 10:40Speaker 1: That's not how's hair looked.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Yeah, So like that's That's something that's a little unclear
- 10:45Speaker 2: to me, is like how much time has gone by
- 10:48Speaker 2: since he found out about Adam And I think, okay,
- 10:54Speaker 2: so like we know, we know he confronts her about
- 10:57Speaker 2: Adam at the end of episode one where they're standing
- 11:01Speaker 2: it's you know, literally the end when he's standing on
- 11:03Speaker 2: top of the building and and he mentions it, right,
- 11:06Speaker 2: And that's the same scene where Matt is with his
- 11:10Speaker 2: new girlfriend and like they're just like starting out dating, right,
- 11:14Speaker 2: and bring that up because in this episode he basically
- 11:18Speaker 2: says like I love you to her and like how
- 11:20Speaker 2: he can't imagine coming home to his apartment without her
- 11:23Speaker 2: being there.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Well that, Joe, how do you live your life? This song?
- 11:29Speaker 1: That is not I love you?
- 11:30Speaker 2: That is?
- 11:31Speaker 3: That is?
- 11:31Speaker 1: That is It's really nice that you're here when I
- 11:33Speaker 1: come home.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Nah, No, no, I love you. That's not the same thing.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Basically the same thing, entirely the same thing.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Well, good thing. This isn't a podcast about love. We'd
- 11:44Speaker 1: be arguing for another thirty minutes.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Listen, listen. Human language is more nuanced than that, all right,
- 11:49Speaker 2: and can give the blind guys some credit, all right,
- 11:52Speaker 2: he found a more poetic way to say I care
- 11:55Speaker 2: about you.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Yeah, see, that's better. He did say he cares about
- 11:59Speaker 1: her any case.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Clearly, My point is time has gone by, all right, Yes,
- 12:05Speaker 2: you have time for feelings to grow. Yeah, and a
- 12:08Speaker 2: meritly hair.
- 12:10Speaker 1: And I I mean.
- 12:13Speaker 2: He is an artist, so maybe his hair was already long.
- 12:15Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 12:15Speaker 1: I'm want to make a prediction. Kingpin's not going to
- 12:17Speaker 1: kill him, but he is going to cut off his
- 12:18Speaker 1: hands because that's what Vanessa really likes.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Yeah, they had a special they had special attention to
- 12:26Speaker 2: his hands on the on the bars there.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Twenty bucks, twenty bucks. He cuts his hands off.
- 12:31Speaker 2: So I am curious because I don't know anything about
- 12:35Speaker 2: an Atom, at least in the context of King beIN
- 12:39Speaker 2: in the comics. It's the character that we're introduced to
- 12:42Speaker 2: at the end. I suppose spoilers if you don't want
- 12:46Speaker 2: to know his name, but like it will tell you
- 12:48Speaker 2: probably nothing that you don't already know about the character.
- 12:52Speaker 2: I promise I will not reveal anything else because I
- 12:54Speaker 2: don't truly know a whole lot about Muse. Is his
- 12:57Speaker 2: name and the way that the show has depicted him
- 13:01Speaker 2: so far is a hannibal lecter artist, which that's virtually
- 13:05Speaker 2: all I really know about him at this point. But
- 13:07Speaker 2: my point is why I bring this up is he's
- 13:12Speaker 2: an artist. Adam is an artist, so I'm wondering what
- 13:16Speaker 2: the relation is there. I mean, it's safe to say
- 13:19Speaker 2: that Adam is not Muse based on the sequence of
- 13:22Speaker 2: events that we saw, but it does seem curious to
- 13:25Speaker 2: make Adam an artist and our villain is an artist,
- 13:28Speaker 2: you know, so.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Him the Muse killings on Adam.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Perhaps we know that Muse based on his his mural
- 13:37Speaker 2: he has a fascination with Fisk. So at some point
- 13:41Speaker 2: those those worlds will be colliding, and in what role
- 13:44Speaker 2: exactly Adam plays in that, we'll see.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Very interesting, very interesting observation.
- 13:52Speaker 2: You know, like as far as the amount of conflicts
- 13:57Speaker 2: that can happen in this show, I have no idea
- 13:59Speaker 2: where we're going, because I mean you have obviously we
- 14:04Speaker 2: have Fisk and Matthew, which, like that's there. It's inevitable
- 14:10Speaker 2: that those two will clash again at some point, right,
- 14:14Speaker 2: But then Frank is now back in the mix, and
- 14:17Speaker 2: to what role we don't know. But there's also the
- 14:20Speaker 2: fake police punishers right running around and at least one
- 14:25Speaker 2: who's like gecked out and punish her arm room, right, Right,
- 14:29Speaker 2: So there's that, and now we have MWS.
- 14:31Speaker 1: So like Vanessa could be thrown in there too. That's
- 14:35Speaker 1: a good point because she's running the underground kingpin.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, it seems like at this point, you know, yeah, no,
- 14:44Speaker 2: that's a great point because I mean it feels like
- 14:46Speaker 2: at this point she probably has more more influence over
- 14:49Speaker 2: the families than Fisk.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Does, right, and the other thing too that we have
- 14:54Speaker 1: to mention that isn't related to all the tension, but
- 14:57Speaker 1: kind of is is the the reporter the BB Report.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a great that's a great call out.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Because that's just like, you know, I'm kind of hijacking here.
- 15:14Speaker 2: That's basically my point.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Great because I want like it kind of segues into
- 15:19Speaker 1: like how cool they're shooting this. I love the clippings
- 15:22Speaker 1: of the BB Report that they show to give us
- 15:25Speaker 1: an idea on how the city actually feels about everything
- 15:28Speaker 1: going on. You actually, I actually feel like I live
- 15:30Speaker 1: in this city when I'm watching this show because they're
- 15:33Speaker 1: cutting in these awesome clips from this reporter and her
- 15:36Speaker 1: like independent news, you know, basically like youtubing that she's
- 15:41Speaker 1: doing right. And so I think it's a really interesting
- 15:44Speaker 1: way to tell the story on how the city's feeling
- 15:47Speaker 1: in relation to like how our main characters are like
- 15:50Speaker 1: going about their day and reacting to how the city
- 15:52Speaker 1: is feeling essentially. So I think it's really cool. But
- 15:55Speaker 1: it also throws in that extra factor of like when
- 15:58Speaker 1: she gets some information that may be somebody isn't supposed
- 16:01Speaker 1: to know, right, Like in this last episode, she gets
- 16:04Speaker 1: a leak about the garbage stuff going on, and and
- 16:07Speaker 1: Fisk is really pissed that she finds out about this
- 16:09Speaker 1: and she breaks the story, kind of ruins his plans.
- 16:13Speaker 1: So there's that factor of what's going on in the city.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's a conflict that feels like that's definitely
- 16:22Speaker 2: gonna come up at some point, especially with bb being
- 16:27Speaker 2: the daughter of Ben Urick right and the history that
- 16:32Speaker 2: was between Ben and Wilson Fisk from the original show,
- 16:38Speaker 2: Fisk being responsible for his death right. So yeah, that
- 16:42Speaker 2: that definitely feels like that skeleton will probably come out
- 16:45Speaker 2: of the closet at some point.
- 16:47Speaker 1: For better for words, for BBE, I agree with.
- 16:49Speaker 2: What you're saying though, as far as those clippings, I
- 16:52Speaker 2: do love that because we always get these philosophical arguments,
- 16:56Speaker 2: whether it's between Fisk and Murdoch or Matt and Frank,
- 17:01Speaker 2: about the city, about what's right about justice right. And
- 17:04Speaker 2: in the original show, while a lot of these dialogues
- 17:07Speaker 2: were written really well, you never really get to hear
- 17:09Speaker 2: from the city, and it is really cool that you
- 17:12Speaker 2: get to You get this divisive, these divisive opinions about
- 17:15Speaker 2: what's going on.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, it's just cool to see that everyone's got
- 17:22Speaker 1: there's not one side of course, like every city, that's all.
- 17:26Speaker 1: It's just like it like it is now.
- 17:27Speaker 2: So I have loved how much courtroom action we get
- 17:35Speaker 2: in this show. It's episode three basically was just a
- 17:38Speaker 2: law and Order episode. Yeah, and I loved it.
- 17:41Speaker 1: It was awesome. I wrote down something about like what
- 17:44Speaker 1: she Ho wanted itself to be, you know, like a
- 17:46Speaker 1: courtroom drama, Like we wanted this in Sheehok and we
- 17:49Speaker 1: didn't get a courtroom drama. We got it an episode
- 17:52Speaker 1: three of this one, which is awesome.
- 17:54Speaker 2: You know. I had that same thought, Like I almost
- 17:57Speaker 2: kind of hated myself for it because I was like,
- 17:59Speaker 2: you know, she Hulk was just a fun comedy, courtroom comedy,
- 18:04Speaker 2: and like it wasn't trying to be anything else. But
- 18:06Speaker 2: we wanted the court room drama.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Wanted that, we wanted the drama.
- 18:13Speaker 2: I wanted this superhero drama, like, hey, we got it.
- 18:17Speaker 2: And honestly, like I thought it tightened really well too,
- 18:23Speaker 2: or hand maybe not tighten. I thought it laid down
- 18:28Speaker 2: the groundwork of where we are in this world and
- 18:32Speaker 2: how this world feels about like superheroes, right, we Actually
- 18:36Speaker 2: I think we learned in she Hulk that the Cecovia
- 18:39Speaker 2: Accords had been repealed and superhero registry was like no
- 18:44Speaker 2: longer like a thing, So like, if it's no longer
- 18:45Speaker 2: a thing, like, where are we legally with vigilantes? Right?
- 18:51Speaker 2: So it's really interesting to see legally how that plays out,
- 18:55Speaker 2: and then you know how people's feelings and thoughts are
- 18:58Speaker 2: about vigilanteism. I freaking love this is a like, if
- 19:04Speaker 2: you're not paying attention line, you'll miss it. The debate
- 19:08Speaker 2: that Fiscus having with another politician in episode one, and
- 19:15Speaker 2: you only see Matt watching TV, so it's like you're
- 19:17Speaker 2: not even directly witnessing the debate. You're just you're watching
- 19:20Speaker 2: the TV with Matt, and you're kind of kind of
- 19:23Speaker 2: listening to what fisc is saying. The politician says something
- 19:26Speaker 2: along the lines of you know, we're gonna we're gonna
- 19:29Speaker 2: start registering these vigilantes, and Physic chimes in and says,
- 19:35Speaker 2: registering vigilantes, you might as well make a grocery list
- 19:39Speaker 2: of cancers. That was a hilarious lot and then he
- 19:46Speaker 2: gets right into I propose action, which like, I would
- 19:52Speaker 2: never vote for someone like that, but that that would
- 19:53Speaker 2: get my attention. That would get my attention.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Oh, I get you had heard it here first, folks,
- 20:00Speaker 1: Joe did not vote for Fisk and the election, but.
- 20:04Speaker 2: He almost can fix it.
- 20:06Speaker 1: It was close, yeah, real quick, because we're on the
- 20:12Speaker 1: courtroom drama episode that was awesome. I'm really pissed at
- 20:17Speaker 1: White Tiger's dad, super disappointing. That's the performance from was
- 20:27Speaker 1: it his daughter's his niece niece Angela? That quick performance
- 20:32Speaker 1: at the beginning of episode four. Excellent job by that
- 20:36Speaker 1: young actress. That was really cool and heart wrenching, a
- 20:40Speaker 1: great call out. And then well what was the other
- 20:44Speaker 1: The other speech in episode four from like a non
- 20:47Speaker 1: main character is Fisks. I don't even know the kid's name,
- 20:52Speaker 1: the guy who leaked the garbage article to the bb report.
- 20:55Speaker 2: I damn it.
- 20:56Speaker 1: I forget his name because it's really not important because
- 20:59Speaker 1: he's basically a he's basically the idiot in the room
- 21:02Speaker 1: every time. But he like somehow and he admitted it
- 21:07Speaker 1: to himself at the end that he shouldn't even be there,
- 21:09Speaker 1: you know. But his speech was really and his apology
- 21:13Speaker 1: was really awesome. I thought he did a great job there,
- 21:16Speaker 1: And obviously I think that if Fisk doesn't have the
- 21:19Speaker 1: forgiveness conversation in the therapy session earlier in the episode,
- 21:23Speaker 1: Fisk probably doesn't let it fly, but he's working on himself,
- 21:27Speaker 1: so maybe it's progress. But I think it's safe to
- 21:32Speaker 1: say that this kid signed his own death warrant when
- 21:35Speaker 1: he said it would never happen again. There's no way.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Oh yeah yeah. My immediate thought to that, like, I'm sorry.
- 21:44Speaker 2: The Penguin like changed me forever about gangsters taking on
- 21:50Speaker 2: father's son rules with just random kids, Like, yeah, this
- 21:54Speaker 2: kids screwed.
- 21:55Speaker 1: Why do you have to bring up VIC Man, I'm
- 21:57Speaker 1: still healing.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Spoilers if you haven't seen The Penguin.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Yeah, Also, this is currently a Marvel mcu episode. Don't
- 22:07Speaker 1: bring DC into this be doing.
- 22:11Speaker 2: I'm just saying, man, he changes me, changed me forever. Boy,
- 22:15Speaker 2: it was a should watch The Penguin. It's a really
- 22:18Speaker 2: good show.
- 22:19Speaker 1: But right here there you go.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I I agree that that character feels like
- 22:28Speaker 2: a doomed character. I mean it feels like any anyone
- 22:31Speaker 2: that Fisk is willing to pour any amount of love
- 22:34Speaker 2: into they're they're doomed. And that does what that is
- 22:40Speaker 2: what that feels like to me right where Fisk he is.
- 22:44Speaker 2: He's got this increasing distance between him and Vanessa. He's
- 22:50Speaker 2: lost Maya, right, someone that he even described as a
- 22:56Speaker 2: Saragate daughter. And you have this this kid who just
- 22:59Speaker 2: like worships the ground and that he's on. And even
- 23:03Speaker 2: though I think Fisk, you know he that that kid
- 23:07Speaker 2: appealed to all of the right like notes for Fisk,
- 23:11Speaker 2: right right, I think Fisk is correct in what I mean. Like,
- 23:16Speaker 2: as the kid was talking, I was like, this is
- 23:17Speaker 2: obviously what's supposed to come across. But the kid is
- 23:20Speaker 2: obviously incredibly courageous for a just like sticking his neck out.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Because like everyone appears to know to a degree what
- 23:30Speaker 2: Fisk is right, Like maybe they don't know exactly, but
- 23:33Speaker 2: like they all sort of know.
- 23:35Speaker 1: They all know.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Yeah, the rumor about the car people know about the
- 23:40Speaker 2: car door. People were like, yeah I heard her rumors
- 23:42Speaker 2: smashed the car dude's head with a car door. Yeah,
- 23:45Speaker 2: they know, so like a courage is and then be
- 23:49Speaker 2: like super loyal right for for better for worse. But yeah,
- 23:53Speaker 2: I totally agree with you. The performance was awesome. That
- 23:56Speaker 2: kid is screwed, well said.
- 24:00Speaker 1: That's that's the line. Moving on one other thing that's
- 24:08Speaker 1: really cool is I love the detective work from Murdoch
- 24:12Speaker 1: in these first couple of episodes, right, like finding the
- 24:15Speaker 1: casing from the White Tiger death and then using his
- 24:19Speaker 1: nose to uh realize I guess that it or he
- 24:26Speaker 1: whatever his nose in his hands, I guess to figure
- 24:28Speaker 1: out the casing had a punisher thing on it. Then
- 24:29Speaker 1: he went to find Castle, uh right, because he like
- 24:34Speaker 1: he had to hunt down Castle because he didn't know
- 24:36Speaker 1: where he was. So, like, you know, he's just like
- 24:39Speaker 1: and he's got a line. He's basically a walking line detector,
- 24:41Speaker 1: which you've kind of knew that already, but like, I
- 24:44Speaker 1: just love seeing the built in detective work that Murdock's
- 24:47Speaker 1: got based on his.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Like oh yeah, and like couple that with the the
- 24:52Speaker 2: editing that we're seeing for to highlight his powers. Right,
- 24:56Speaker 2: I think Born Again is doing such a better job
- 24:59Speaker 2: of showing us how he perceives the world. There's that
- 25:04Speaker 2: shot in episode one in the bar where Matt hears
- 25:08Speaker 2: the phone conversation of Foggy outside and we get to
- 25:13Speaker 2: see Matt and then the camera pushes past Matt and
- 25:18Speaker 2: everything goes out of focus. But like as the camera
- 25:20Speaker 2: is pushing closer and closer to the window where Foggy is.
- 25:24Speaker 2: You're hearing like the peripheral sounds start to like fade out,
- 25:28Speaker 2: get foggier, if you will, as the Foggy voice becomes
- 25:34Speaker 2: like more narrow and more concentrated. That is some awesome
- 25:37Speaker 2: visual editing. That's some awesome audio editing, and like, I
- 25:41Speaker 2: feel like his powers have never looked and sounded cooler
- 25:44Speaker 2: than they do in this show.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a great point, and the editing is fantastic,
- 25:49Speaker 1: along with the fight choreography of course, like is they're
- 25:51Speaker 1: crushing it. You brought up Foggy just want to do
- 25:55Speaker 1: a quick passover? They killed him.
- 25:57Speaker 2: So sad they killed them.
- 26:01Speaker 3: We're sat anyway, moving on, Yeah, that was so shocking
- 26:09Speaker 3: episode one, like on, like every episode has such shocking
- 26:14Speaker 3: moments so far.
- 26:15Speaker 1: I'm assuming that's just the mL of the show moving forward,
- 26:18Speaker 1: Like there's no way Episode five and six on end
- 26:21Speaker 1: with another crazy thing that's going on, So we'll see.
- 26:24Speaker 2: But I did enjoy how fast the show was, all right,
- 26:30Speaker 2: So let me rephrase this. I really enjoyed that the
- 26:33Speaker 2: show was going to acknowledge where it had come from
- 26:37Speaker 2: and as quickly I don't know how smoothly this is necessarily,
- 26:41Speaker 2: but as quickly as it can create the segue between
- 26:45Speaker 2: original Daredevil and Born Again. Right, Yes, like we're getting
- 26:50Speaker 2: rid of our trio, our entourage, right, and we are
- 26:54Speaker 2: reinforcing this as a fisks show and that this is
- 26:56Speaker 2: a Matt Murdoch show, and we're going to surround them
- 26:59Speaker 2: with new characters, mostly.
- 27:01Speaker 1: Some may characters. Mostly.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Yeah, yes, I think other than I mean, Karen survived,
- 27:06Speaker 2: but she's out of the show basically for now. Other
- 27:10Speaker 2: than Vanessa, I don't think that there are any other peripheral,
- 27:13Speaker 2: peripheral characters. Well, I guess Frank now right, but I
- 27:17Speaker 2: wouldn't have called him a regular character on Daredevil.
- 27:20Speaker 1: Yeah. So yeah, they're they're doing a great job there,
- 27:22Speaker 1: and really it's it's just it's fresh, the whole thing.
- 27:25Speaker 1: So they've really done a great job.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Actually, you know, there was one thing I wanted to
- 27:31Speaker 2: bring up for before we close things out episode three,
- 27:35Speaker 2: when we're talking about all the people that White Tiger
- 27:37Speaker 2: saved and all the different police officers who who respected that.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Officer Morales Is mentioned that that's like that's a that's
- 27:48Speaker 2: a Miles Morales reference, right, Like you can't just do that, right, gotta.
- 27:53Speaker 1: Be They already mentioned Spider Man two, like.
- 27:55Speaker 2: Right, like, yeah, you can't just bring up an officer
- 27:59Speaker 2: by last name and not make us think of Miles's dad.
- 28:02Speaker 2: Immediately got a little.
- 28:04Speaker 1: TV show based in New York. They're giving us all
- 28:06Speaker 1: the cameo all that not cameos, but all the slight
- 28:09Speaker 1: mentions of all these other things going on in the
- 28:11Speaker 1: MCU really cool.
- 28:13Speaker 2: A lot to look forward to the show, I think,
- 28:15Speaker 2: ultimately I am. I'm just really excited to see people
- 28:20Speaker 2: start suiting up. You know, I want to see Matt
- 28:22Speaker 2: suit up. I want to see Fisk suit up. I
- 28:24Speaker 2: want to see I really want to see Frank suit up.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I want to see the new suit Man. There's
- 28:29Speaker 1: I know there's gonna be a fresh take on it. Yeah.
- 28:32Speaker 1: We're just excited to see what happens next. And we'd
- 28:36Speaker 1: love to know what you guys think. To let us
