- 0:00SPEAKER_02: Uh I totally understand this feeling.
- 0:02SPEAKER_02: Uh Merle sent this morning.
- 0:04SPEAKER_02: My wife burst into tears reading the news uh to me yesterday.
- 0:09SPEAKER_02: Uh then when uh when I got uh uh when I got to uh uh to the doctors, I guess they had to go to uh talking with the receptionist, she was uh in disbelief.
- 0:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think yesterday you came in.
- 0:22SPEAKER_02: I was sitting with one of our coworkers, and you had said you would just you you came in, you said Dolly Parton just died.
- 0:28SPEAKER_02: And it actually took me a second to register.
- 0:30SPEAKER_02: Like, I'm like, Wait, what?
- 0:32SPEAKER_03: Right, you both the two people sitting in the room both were like, No.
- 0:34SPEAKER_03: No, I got I can't believe it.
- 0:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, especially because we had not heard much recently.
- 0:41SPEAKER_03: The only thing I heard, and this how crazy is this?
- 0:44SPEAKER_03: I'm at a concert last Thursday, and this artist had referenced how um Dolly wasn't feeling good.
- 0:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I was I was thinking, oh, okay, well, you know, I know she's like been kind of sick lately.
- 0:56SPEAKER_03: I know she had like a some sort of kidney infection or uh something like that.
- 1:01SPEAKER_03: And then they the artist covered a Dolly song.
- 1:05SPEAKER_03: But when that reference was made, I stopped for a second and thought, oh, that was weird.
- 1:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:10SPEAKER_03: But then now it makes sense, of course, especially because this artist is so connected to Nashville.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: Now, interestingly enough, uh something I don't think we knew was uh, and they announced this that Dolly had a brief battle with cancer.
- 1:22SPEAKER_02: I did not know that.
- 1:23SPEAKER_02: Me neither.
- 1:24SPEAKER_02: Um and and I do want to be shocked.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: I want to play this.
- 1:27SPEAKER_02: This is interesting.
- 1:28SPEAKER_02: We've talked more than once about death on this show because Allie has no fear.
- 1:32SPEAKER_02: I mean, if the 18 Wheeler comes careening through the second floor and takes her out, I'll be sitting here in disbelief, but uh she'll be like, well, there it is.
- 1:39SPEAKER_02: Bye.
- 1:40SPEAKER_02: Uh but one of the one of the things that we've we've talked about is how people will pre-arrange their um, well, let's say afterlife plans and how they want things to be done.
- 1:52SPEAKER_02: And after Dolly Parton uh passed away yesterday, her family uh obviously this came out uh on Instagram.
- 1:57SPEAKER_02: They put out the official video and statement that was pre-arranged by Dolly.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna play this for you so you can hear how this went.
- 2:04SPEAKER_02: In case you didn't see this part, because I think a lot of people, you get the news and you start kind of going down the rabbit hole of different, you know, uh different sources and what you know what happened, you know.
- 2:14SPEAKER_03: You just different interviews.
- 2:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: But this was the actual statement from her family.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago before I fully absorbed it as a future reality.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: It is an honor, an honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: But sadness lies with us, not with Dolly.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents, and countless others who have watched her and longed for her to meet them in the heavens.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: She has always been on your television, your record player, your CD, and on your phone playlist, becoming an extended part of your family.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: Our family and the team she has entrusted with her legacy will work diligently to ensure her spirit will live with us forever.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: May God bless Dolly Parton and may God bless you all.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: She will always love you.
- 3:00SPEAKER_02: That was her nephew, Brian, Brian Seaver.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: Uh but Dolly and her husband never had kids.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: So uh that's why it came from the nephew.
- 3:08SPEAKER_02: Also, something I did mention, and you'll remember this yesterday.
- 3:12SPEAKER_02: I remember walking back in the studio here, and I go, Didn't her husband pass away about a year ago?
- 3:17SPEAKER_02: And how many times do we hear stories like that where, you know, couples that have been together for so long, one goes and because they've been together forever.
- 3:27SPEAKER_02: Um my gosh, one goes and then it's not long after.
- 3:30SPEAKER_03: Although for some reason And he did die in 2025.
- 3:32SPEAKER_02: For some reason, I thought he was she was gonna keep going.
- 3:35SPEAKER_02: And and I think one of the biggest reasons that affects so many people on so many levels, she was just genuinely a good person.
- 3:44SPEAKER_02: Whether you love her music, don't know three of her songs, uh, don't know much about her, you know, whether it's the books that you know her from, whether it's and do you know she gave, I forgot about this.
- 3:55SPEAKER_02: This was on the news yesterday.
- 3:56SPEAKER_02: So Gatlinburg, Tennessee, right?
- 3:59SPEAKER_02: Devastated by fires a few years back.
- 4:00SPEAKER_02: I mean, like literally almost wiped off the map.
- 4:02SPEAKER_02: Do you know she gave a thousand dollars a month to families that were affected by that till they could get back on her feet?
- 4:09SPEAKER_03: Who who could do that?
- 4:10SPEAKER_03: Apparently, the original checks that were written for that too, she hand wrote them in a hotel room by herself, one at a time.
- 4:19SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 4:19SPEAKER_03: Isn't that insane?
- 4:21SPEAKER_03: Um, back to the book thing.
- 4:22SPEAKER_03: We have a text from 1132.
- 4:24SPEAKER_03: Uh her son Cooper gets a book, and he calls her Aunt Dolly too.
- 4:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I was just telling you the story how my cousin's kid calls her Aunt Dolly, which is just so adorable because she is kind of like everyone's aunt, especially if you're a kid who gets the books.
- 4:36SPEAKER_03: Now, she has tons and tons of music clips out there.
- 4:40SPEAKER_03: You're right.
- 4:41SPEAKER_03: Yesterday went down the rabbit hole watching everything.
- 4:44SPEAKER_03: But what I thought was really, really great was this is a clip of Dolly on Johnny Carson, and not only is she wearing acrylic nails, but they say that this is, and I didn't I didn't realize this, but I guess this is hard to do because it's in D major.
- 4:59SPEAKER_03: So to do this while she's wearing nails is really hard.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: Oh I have come a long way from the hills of Tennessee, and I've worked hard to make the boat back home, real proud of me.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: Now everybody knows my name, no matter where I go.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: But I've never really made the Johnny Carson show.
- 5:22SPEAKER_03: Isn't that adorable?
- 5:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, she's one of 12 as well.
- 5:25SPEAKER_03: And do you know why she does the books?
- 5:27SPEAKER_02: Uh, yes, because her father could not did never learn to read or write.
- 5:32SPEAKER_02: No.
- 5:32SPEAKER_02: And it was a tribute, and he lived long enough to see the Imagination Library launched in his honor.
- 5:38SPEAKER_03: Isn't that adorable?
- 5:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that that's a special thing.
- 5:40SPEAKER_02: There's a lot more that we'll cover with this as we move through the morning because I mean, look, everybody's got some feelings on it.
- 5:47SPEAKER_02: And she transgends formats.
- 5:50SPEAKER_02: You know, I know the Scott and Alley show, we're on Wink 106, we're on Twin Tears Magic, we're on My Radio Jams, which is throwbacks, right?
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: So uh older older wink, if you will.
- 6:00SPEAKER_02: And uh, you know, but there's just something about her that she goes everywhere and she works everywhere.
- 6:06SPEAKER_02: So yeah, there'll be lots more of Dolly on the way.
