- 0:00Speaker 1: It's Victoria.
- 0:01Speaker 2: She is calling us from the windy city of Chicago
- 0:05Speaker 2: for a it's a it's a reality show up check.
- 0:08Speaker 3: She watches reality TV, so we don't have.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Now, do I recall correctly, Victoria, we asked you to
- 0:16Speaker 2: check in on this particular show.
- 0:18Speaker 4: Yes, you've pretty you specifically.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Bill, Okay, Uh? Then then I'm going to leave the room.
- 0:26Speaker 4: You know what, I think everyone's pleasantly surprised. So I'll
- 0:30Speaker 4: say too. The reason we went down this hole was
- 0:33Speaker 4: because it's Emmy nominated. So lastly, yeah, we went through
- 0:36Speaker 4: the Emmy nominations of Reality TV, and I gave you
- 0:41Speaker 4: a rundown of each of the shows, and I will
- 0:43Speaker 4: go explore some other things. But I had never seen this,
- 0:46Speaker 4: So we're actually, let's start. We're talking about Love on
- 0:48Speaker 4: the Spectrum, which is very popular from what I understand
- 0:54Speaker 4: I mean. And then now it's Emmy nominated and so
- 0:58Speaker 4: uh and so I had never seen before. It's on Netflix.
- 1:02Speaker 4: I've heard people talk about it, and so let here
- 1:05Speaker 4: we go. And so I just jumped into season four.
- 1:08Speaker 4: And I can't say why I never explored this show,
- 1:12Speaker 4: but so I just watched the first episode of season
- 1:15Speaker 4: four and little did we know. We actually stumbled onto
- 1:18Speaker 4: a Salt Lake City, Utah connections. Yes, and that's what
- 1:23Speaker 4: I realized too. I'm like, oh no, this should be
- 1:25Speaker 4: on our radar. So the other thing I'll say is
- 1:29Speaker 4: the cast is so likable, which very much unlike the
- 1:33Speaker 4: Housewives or the Mormon Wives, is the opposite.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Of reality show. Here now they trying to pair people.
- 1:39Speaker 2: What is the purpose here? Are they trying to pair
- 1:41Speaker 2: people up?
- 1:42Speaker 4: So yeah, so it's actually it's a combination I think
- 1:46Speaker 4: of pairing, but watching them explore relationships. So watching people
- 1:51Speaker 4: on the spectrum navigate relationships. And so I googled it
- 1:55Speaker 4: because I was like, how does this even happen? I'm
- 1:57Speaker 4: gonna go through who we meet on the show, right,
- 2:00Speaker 4: because they're already in the first episode of season four,
- 2:03Speaker 4: they're already going on dates. So what we get is
- 2:04Speaker 4: we get a combination of people who who looks like
- 2:09Speaker 4: our new to season four, have come back from previous seasons,
- 2:13Speaker 4: and so we have we're checking in on relationships, and
- 2:15Speaker 4: then we're watching them start new relationships. And so I
- 2:18Speaker 4: googled it and it looks like they consult with the
- 2:21Speaker 4: individuals themselves that they cast. They get to know them.
- 2:24Speaker 4: It looks like they have like kind of like an
- 2:25Speaker 4: expert matchmaker helping and then somehow they're connecting people and
- 2:31Speaker 4: it looks like they're vetting the gates and the partners
- 2:35Speaker 4: off screen before we're actually like get to see them
- 2:38Speaker 4: on the show. And so it really isn't about them
- 2:41Speaker 4: like going through like a bachelorette bachelor type show. It
- 2:45Speaker 4: really is watching people, I think.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Get to know each other.
- 2:49Speaker 1: All right, well let's meet them. Let's meet them.
- 2:51Speaker 4: So so first we meet Logan. He lives in Las Vegas,
- 2:55Speaker 4: and then what we get is we get interviews directly
- 2:57Speaker 4: with them. We watch them, and then we get interviews
- 2:59Speaker 4: with their fans, so we interviews with his mom and
- 3:02Speaker 4: his sister, and then he goes shopping for a suit
- 3:05Speaker 4: for his first date, so we don't see his first date.
- 3:08Speaker 4: And then we meet Madison and she's in the process
- 3:10Speaker 4: of moving to Plant City, Florida. She was on season
- 3:13Speaker 4: three where she met someone named Tyler. They've been dating
- 3:16Speaker 4: for seven months, and so the date we see with
- 3:18Speaker 4: them is they go on to Valentine's Date and it's
- 3:21Speaker 4: so sweet because they each bring gifts for each other.
- 3:25Speaker 4: And then he surprises her with like they're sitting on
- 3:28Speaker 4: this like patio, and he surprises her with dinner and
- 3:31Speaker 4: it's McDonald's because it's her favorite. She loves a plane
- 3:35Speaker 4: cheeseburger and fries and placed it on a regular play.
- 3:39Speaker 4: It's adorable. And then we meet Emma and so she's
- 3:43Speaker 4: the one in Salt Lake City. She is absolutely my favorite.
- 3:46Speaker 4: She's so sweet, she's so funny, and she just it'll
- 3:52Speaker 4: be thinking to know her. She they do ask her
- 3:55Speaker 4: she's Mormon, and so they have questions when they when
- 3:59Speaker 4: they're interviewing her in asking questions about relationships, they do
- 4:01Speaker 4: ask about the intimacy and how it relates to the church.
- 4:05Speaker 4: What's really interesting too again getting to know her and
- 4:08Speaker 4: getting to know this world, is there's a school for
- 4:12Speaker 4: neuro divergent adult it looks like it's in Provo and
- 4:14Speaker 4: it's called Scenic View and so we get to see
- 4:17Speaker 4: her working there and it looks like it might be
- 4:19Speaker 4: like a living situation as well, and so that's really interesting.
- 4:24Speaker 4: She goes on a date with someone named Austen. They
- 4:27Speaker 4: build a snow man. It's so interesting.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Well when was this film? When was there any snow
- 4:33Speaker 1: Two years ago?
- 4:34Speaker 4: I mean, yes, it's it's late because it's what's so
- 4:38Speaker 4: funny too, is they're not dressed in full winter gear,
- 4:41Speaker 4: so it's warm enough for them just to wear a
- 4:42Speaker 4: jacket and they had to dig up the snow quite
- 4:45Speaker 4: a bit. But yeah, and then they go to sign
- 4:47Speaker 4: Eric Erickson Laws to have lodge, to have lunch in
- 4:50Speaker 4: one of the snow globes. It's really really sweet. And
- 4:53Speaker 4: then we do see her interacting with her family as
- 4:55Speaker 4: well as they're talking about like because the family is
- 4:59Speaker 4: supportive too of of them, you know, finding a relationship
- 5:02Speaker 4: and figuring out, you know, who their person is going
- 5:05Speaker 4: to be.
- 5:05Speaker 3: So this doesn't feel exploit of at all. No, it's
- 5:09Speaker 3: it's genuine.
- 5:11Speaker 1: It's is there.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Is there some indication of I mean in terms of
- 5:16Speaker 2: behavior these people that they are on the spectrum, I
- 5:19Speaker 2: mean does it seem.
- 5:20Speaker 4: Oh yeah, okay, yeah yeah, And they talk about it,
- 5:24Speaker 4: so they identify with this as well. Actually and talking
- 5:26Speaker 4: about Emma and Austin, so they one of the things
- 5:30Speaker 4: that they were talking about is actually she asks him,
- 5:33Speaker 4: She's like, are you on the spectrum? And he's like yeah,
- 5:35Speaker 4: He's like, and I'm proud. And so they're talking about
- 5:38Speaker 4: owning it and what that means for their identity. They
- 5:41Speaker 4: also some of them talk about their other like coexisting.
- 5:45Speaker 4: I don't, I don't have all the language, but like
- 5:47Speaker 4: someone mentions how they have OCD, and someone mentions how
- 5:49Speaker 4: they have ADHD and how this co existing experience. So no,
- 5:52Speaker 4: they're talking about this experience. Some of them talk about
- 5:56Speaker 4: it as as like their identity and what it means
- 6:00Speaker 4: for them. And I do think I would be curious
- 6:03Speaker 4: why people are interested in the show as I'm watching it.
- 6:06Speaker 4: I'm interested in this very empathetic experience of just getting
- 6:10Speaker 4: to know people, like not even with this specific label,
- 6:13Speaker 4: but like understand just getting to know someone's experience. And
- 6:16Speaker 4: I really like the show for this, like it's just
- 6:19Speaker 4: watching people navigate their lives in a not and to me,
- 6:22Speaker 4: it's not exploitative. But I would be curious, like what
- 6:25Speaker 4: brings people to the show. And I'm still trying to
- 6:28Speaker 4: reflect on why I didn't watch the show initially because
- 6:31Speaker 4: I think I was concerned about this being exploitative. But
- 6:35Speaker 4: I would sincerely invite you all to just watch this
- 6:38Speaker 4: first episode and see what you think, because it's not
- 6:41Speaker 4: what I thought. I think it's very sweet. I don't
- 6:44Speaker 4: know where it goes. I guess I'm speaking very early
- 6:46Speaker 4: on too, because I haven't finished the season, and so
- 6:49Speaker 4: I don't because when you google it testing social media
- 6:51Speaker 4: and internet, when you google these people, these the cast members,
- 6:55Speaker 4: and when you google the different storylines, people have very
- 6:57Speaker 4: strong feelings, of course, and people go to different extremes.
- 7:02Speaker 4: They have thoughts about watching people interact. And you see
- 7:04Speaker 4: some of the conversations that people have about you know, oh,
- 7:07Speaker 4: well he talks this way to this person. They're like, well,
- 7:09Speaker 4: you have to understand, like, because they're on the spectrum,
- 7:13Speaker 4: like there's a different way. There might be their way
- 7:14Speaker 4: communicating and so it might not be received the same way.
- 7:17Speaker 4: But it's it's this is fascinating and I think very
- 7:21Speaker 4: very sweet. And the two other people we meet are James.
- 7:24Speaker 4: He's been on all four seasons and he's getting someone
- 7:26Speaker 4: named Shelley, and he's someone I google. When you google
- 7:28Speaker 4: James and Shelley, people have thoughts and so I'll let
- 7:31Speaker 4: you know some of my thoughts about this and what
- 7:33Speaker 4: other people said. And then Connor is and then and
- 7:36Speaker 4: James is in Boston, and then Connor is in Atlanta, Georgia.
- 7:39Speaker 4: And he was on seasons two and three, and so
- 7:41Speaker 4: now he's on four, uh and uh and again like
- 7:45Speaker 4: it's some of them are we're checking none of their relationships.
- 7:48Speaker 4: And it looks for me, from my perspective to it
- 7:50Speaker 4: looks like the casting is very, very thoughtful about about
- 7:56Speaker 4: who feels comfortable sharing their lives. That's the other thing too,
- 7:59Speaker 4: I think whyfe's not explained, like it looks like everybody's
- 8:01Speaker 4: all in and you've got the family. You know a
- 8:03Speaker 4: lot of a lot of them live with their family
- 8:05Speaker 4: or they're very close.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Now can I ask how can I ask?
- 8:08Speaker 2: How do you?
- 8:09Speaker 1: How do they win? The money? Isn't there? They've got
- 8:13Speaker 1: to win some money, don't you.
- 8:14Speaker 4: I think that's also why it's not exploitative, because it's
- 8:17Speaker 4: not like.
- 8:19Speaker 3: We're getting lots of texts from people that just love
- 8:22Speaker 3: for this show. If you need to renew your faith
- 8:25Speaker 3: in humanity, watch this show. It's the cutest thing ever.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Somebody else says the coach on the show, Love on
- 8:32Speaker 3: the Spectrum has autism and helps them navigate the relationships,
- 8:36Speaker 3: not just romantic relationships.
- 8:38Speaker 4: She's interesting. Interesting.
- 8:42Speaker 5: Apparently Sue watched this season and she said everybody should
- 8:45Speaker 5: watch it just to learn how to communicate with your
- 8:48Speaker 5: the person you're dating.
- 8:49Speaker 3: It doesn't matter whether, it doesn't matter whether or not.
- 8:53Speaker 5: And she also says they're more honest than non divergent people.
- 8:58Speaker 5: They sometimes have a dating specialist that teaches them tips
- 9:01Speaker 5: on how to talk to people.
- 9:02Speaker 1: It's good advice.
- 9:04Speaker 4: Interesting. No, I'm I'm now I'm even more curious, so
- 9:07Speaker 4: I will keep going until we have our next you know,
- 9:10Speaker 4: not this, but how can we have.
- 9:12Speaker 1: A drinking game? Come on, we need to have a
- 9:14Speaker 1: drinking game.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Things happen, you can take a drink when things happen.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Do people get dumped at any point? I mean, we'll see.
- 9:23Speaker 2: I know.
- 9:24Speaker 4: I was reluctant on how to form a drinking game
- 9:26Speaker 4: for this. It didn't feel right because there's so all the.
- 9:29Speaker 1: More reason to do it.
- 9:31Speaker 3: Just pour a drink and enjoy it while you're just
- 9:33Speaker 3: sip it while you're drinking.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Game is just back and enjoy it.
- 9:38Speaker 4: We'll celebrate love, you know, And I wouldn't buy everybody. Actually,
- 9:41Speaker 4: that's a good point. When you when they ask questions
- 9:43Speaker 4: about relationships, ask yourself the question that they're asking to
- 9:46Speaker 4: see what you come up with?
- 9:47Speaker 1: A drink is this did you mention? Is this a
- 9:49Speaker 1: Netflix show? Is that what?
- 9:51Speaker 4: Netflix? Netflix? And I jump into season four.
- 9:54Speaker 5: Let's watch together, all right,
