- 0:00Welcome to the Guitar Jet Podcast, where you'll skyrocket your knowledge of theory,
- 0:05techniques, and fundamentals for guitar. Hey, welcome to the Guitar Jet Podcast.
- 0:12I'm your guitar teacher and host, Miles Halter, and I thought i'd
- 0:15let you know about my experience and history as a guitarist. If you have
- 0:18any questions for me, you can ask them on my website guitar jet dot
- 0:21com or in my Facebook group, the Guitar Technique Society. I started learning
- 0:26guitar at the ripe age of eight years old. I had an older guitar
- 0:29teacher named Ola, and I was placed in a group setting with four other
- 0:33kids. The five of us all got the same half sized classical guitar start
- 0:37our journeys, the Yamaha CGS one O two. I still have that guitar
- 0:41and I play it almost every day. Fast forward to me being fourteen years
- 0:45old, which is when I got an electric guitar and guitar amplifier for Christmas.
- 0:49Specifically, I got a Squire stratocaster and a Fender Mustang two amp.
- 0:54That amplifier introduced me to the many different effects you can use on electric guitar,
- 0:59which certainly inspired me to pick up my instrument and practice it, at
- 1:03least when I first got it. For about a year after that, I
- 1:06actually took a brief guitar break. I just wasn't feeling it. But then
- 1:08I discovered something that changed my life. Drop D tuning. You see,
- 1:12I'm a big fan of the band Tool, and naturally, like every Tool
- 1:17fan that plays guitar, I wanted to learn how to play Vicarious and Ladderalis.
- 1:21So I hopped on YouTube and looked up how to play these songs and
- 1:25learned right away that they are all composed using drop D tuning. So because
- 1:29of Tool and their use of drop D tuning, I was inspired to start
- 1:33playing the electric guitar every day, and I've played guitar almost every day since
- 1:38then. Now let's talk a bit more about my learning experience from age sixteen
- 1:42to eighteen. Since I was diving deep into guitar, I knew that I
- 1:47had to and wanted to learn more about famous and influential guitar players. So
- 1:51I googled who the best guitar players were at the time, and I found
- 1:53some incredible lists. Through these lists, I just coverged guitar players like Steve
- 1:59Vaie, Gary Moore, John Pertrucci, Buckethead, Guthrie Govin, and Sean
- 2:04Lane. And if you're wondering, I had already discovered the really famous guitar
- 2:07players like Eddie Van Halen, Jose Aftrioni, Jimmy Hendricks and Slash through listening
- 2:12to rock music and playing guitar hero A few months before I turned nineteen,
- 2:16I started teaching guitar. Since then, I've taught a plthrow of students,
- 2:21learned from some incredible guitar teachers, studied lots of guitar greats, have had
- 2:24over ten thousand people read my content on Google, and I've played guitar with
- 2:29lots of great friends, musicians and bands. And that is all I'll leave
- 2:34you with for today. Thanks for listening, and please subscribe to the Guitar
- 2:38Podcast for episodes and resources about guitar theory, techniques, and fundamentals. Keep jamming
