- Brad Peters: Welcome to the Recipe for Results. This is your podcast extra for certification in the hotel, restaurant, and bar industry, brought to you by HRB Universal. This is the brief on the Serve Safe Food Protection Manager certification. FTA regulations, specifically section 2102.12, require a certified person in charge to be on duty during food service. So HRB Universal is hosting an official ANSI accredited training and exam session in Laurel, Mississippi to get you compliant. Think of it as a restaurant's ultimate defensive playbook, because without it, you literally can't step on the field and serve food. First, let's look at the logistics for August 17th, 2026 at the HRB Universal Training Center in Laurel, zip code 39440. It's going to run you $179 for the full day from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Or just $129 if you only want to show up at 2 p.m. for the two-hour exam. So why show up at 8 30 in the morning if the test isn't until 2? Well, second, that morning is a fast-paced four-hour review lecture on the FDA food code. Listen, self-study is absolutely required before you arrive. So definitely dive into their training portal or the free mobile app. Please don't walk in blind. Treat this morning session as a quick refresher, not a scratch-to-finish class. Finally, let's talk about the actual exam experience from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. It's completely electronic, meaning you can bring your own laptop or tablet or just use a provided Amazon Fire tablet. It's accessible and offered in English, Spanish, Chinese, and French Canadian, though paper exams are an option if you give them 20 days advance notice. You technically have two hours, but you know what? Most folks actually knock it out in 45 minutes to an hour. Secure your spot for August 17th. Knock out that online pre-reading and pass this exam to keep your customers safe and your restaurant's doors open.
