Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Haritina Mogoșanu: Astrobiology Network Executive Director on NASA's first crewed lunar mission in 50 years
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: A very exciting because this morning at eleven twenty four,
- 0:02Speaker 1: Artemis two will send four astronauts on their way around
- 0:05Speaker 1: the Moon, NASA's first mancraft to go beyond a saw
- 0:08Speaker 1: but since nineteen seventy two. Very excited about this is
- 0:12Speaker 1: Hurry Tina MORGUSANYU Astrobiology Network with us this morning.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Good morning, Good morning.
- 0:18Speaker 1: So why do we need to do a drive by first?
- 0:20Speaker 1: Why can't we just land there and set up a
- 0:22Speaker 1: base straight away.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Hurrytina, because it is safer and this mission has proven
- 0:29Speaker 2: the fact that you really have to check your equipment.
- 0:31Speaker 2: See the very first moon landing was a military operation
- 0:36Speaker 2: that was run as a race between the two countries
- 0:40Speaker 2: that at the time, the United States and the USSR
- 0:44Speaker 2: They were trying to prove each other who was winning
- 0:50Speaker 2: more things, and the Russians were winning, and then the
- 0:53Speaker 2: Americans thought, we have to go to the Moon, so
- 0:55Speaker 2: they really ketted it as a military operation. Whereas now
- 0:59Speaker 2: everything that is happening is taking into consideration the safety
- 1:03Speaker 2: of the crew, the well being of the people who
- 1:06Speaker 2: are on board, and it's phenomenal because they really care
- 1:09Speaker 2: about the people who are there. For astronauts, we're gonna
- 1:12Speaker 2: be really.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Well taken care of, Hurtina. Is this all about minerals
- 1:17Speaker 1: and rare earths and business?
- 1:20Speaker 2: Yes and no, Yes and hopefully no, Hopefully humankind as
- 1:25Speaker 2: we are wonderful. I'm an optimist. I believe in us
- 1:29Speaker 2: and humankind and our power to produce good from everything.
- 1:35Speaker 2: We will take this forward, then we will also produce
- 1:38Speaker 2: space beIN offs, which are all these technologies that are
- 1:43Speaker 2: now improving life, like MRI scanners and all of the
- 1:47Speaker 2: good things, even mobile phones that I am using right
- 1:50Speaker 2: now to improve lives here on earths. So space travel,
- 1:55Speaker 2: it's a phenomenal thing that is helping us, has helped
- 1:58Speaker 2: us as human humans evolve beyond incredible conditions because spaceflight
- 2:05Speaker 2: is so hard, and because it is so hard, we
- 2:08Speaker 2: have to come up with so many ideas and things,
- 2:11Speaker 2: and those ideas and things they're mostly used here on Earth.
- 2:14Speaker 2: So that's why space space flight is so good. Not
- 2:17Speaker 2: necessarily because some people go to the Moon. You know,
- 2:20Speaker 2: it's not going to be too many of them, and
- 2:22Speaker 2: not everybody's going to be able to go there, though
- 2:24Speaker 2: I do hope we will.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Yeah, would you hurrytan if I gave you a ticket
- 2:29Speaker 1: that said you could live on the moon, would you go?
- 2:32Speaker 2: I would time when Mary not live on the moon.
- 2:35Speaker 2: I love, I love where I am in Whirarapa Dark
- 2:38Speaker 2: Sky Reserve, but I bet the moon has an amazing,
- 2:41Speaker 2: amazing night sky.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Hurytanare nice to have you on the program, Hurtina Morgusanya,
- 2:46Speaker 1: who is very excited for more from early edition with
- 2:50Speaker 1: Ryan Bridge. Listen live to News Talks it being from
- 2:53Speaker 1: five am weekdays, or follow the podcast on iHeartRadio.
