Speaker A: going the blah blah today, man. Shout out to y'. All. How are y' all doing today? This great. That's great. I love to hear that. I love to hear that. I was summoned again. I'm black. Well, I think I said that right. I'm black. I'm black. Back. I'm back, black people. And we got another doozy. Oh, man, 12. Kizzy done did it again. Well, Calden did it again. And bread. Yeah, they did a phenomenal episode. And again, you know the rules. Go check that episode out before you check my episode out. It's only right. It's only right. And that movie was called 90s movie night. Okay. By 12 cow. The 12 cow podcast featuring Brit Brady. Brit. Brit Renee. I can talk about all. I could talk about this all day. All right? And that's what we gonna do. We gonna get into. Well, I mean, I'm not gonna go over some of their answers because, well, I mean, that. That'll just give it away. Then what's the point of going to the show when I just spoiled it for you? But I gotta give y' all my picks, you know, and. Great show. Phenomenal show, you know. And you know how we do it over here? We. When it's a hit, we remix it. You have to, like. It's only right that you slap the remix on there, you know? And that's what we going with tonight. And this particular. This particular episode, they talked about the black movies in the decade of the 90s. So we gonna start from the 90, from 1990 all the way to 99. And the thing is, they're gonna go with the top black movies from each year. But you can only pick one. You can only choose one movie. Care to explain why? Don't you? It wouldn't be an episode without you explaining it. You know what I mean? Without further ado, let's get to it. We starting at the top of the year, man. 1990. Great year, huh? Great year, by the way. You know what I'm saying? I was eight, you know, I was eight coming into that. Coming into that new decade. And we was introduced to some classic movies that came out the year. I mean, it's a short list starting it off. It's only two movies that you gotta decide from, but it might be a tough one for you. So in 1990, you gotta watch this one black classic movie for the rest of the year. Which one will it be, Baylor? Hmm? Hmm. Are you picking House Party? Are you picking Mo Better Blues? Now, look, I know a lot of y' all are saying this is not even close. With no disrespect. This is a landslide, okay? 98.9% of the black delegation is going to definitely choose house party. Okay? We're going to kick your ass full force, huh? Check out the outfits these niggas was wearing, though. Like, you had dress the definition of dress to impress. Okay, let me give you a little fun fact about House Party. Kidding. Play wasn't the original. That wasn't supposed to be the original cast. Nah, man. Will Smith, DJ Jazzy Jeff, that was supposed to be the original duo. Now, I must say, I would love to have seen that version, but nothing, nothing is going to replace what kid and Play did. Nothing, nothing. And I don't think, again, I would love to see an alternate version because it'd be different. You would have. The jokes would have to be different. You feel me? You got Will Smith on there, you know what I'm saying? So, yeah, I'm going with a House party on that one. It's. To me, that one is a no brainer. No disrespect to anybody. Look, you know, Mo Better Blues was. Was. It's a cult classic. Mo Better Blues is like. Like something that you'll find on Fab on one of Fab's mixtapes or something like that. It's still a classic, you know what I'm saying? It's just that House party is top 10 all time. We got to talk about it. All right? So we're gonna move on to 1991. And now this is where it starts to get a little out the gate, you know? I mean, I know the 90. 1990 was a short list. It was. It was two good, great competitors. It's just one is definitely much more. I wouldn't say respected, but loved more, you know, at the end of the day. But now when we get to 1991. We got house party two. Okay? Then we got the infamous Boys in the Hood. We got the Five Heartbeats, followed after that, then New Jack City, and of course, Strictly Business. Now let me tell you, I love Strictly Business. Not only do I love the movie soundtrack, wasn't too shabby, okay? Strictly business. Ph nama. No, it was true essence of the early 90s right there. New Jack City, one of my favorite cult classics. What? What? I mean, we talking about a star studded cast as well. Because that's what I was going to get to when it came to Boyz n the hood. The winner of the whole thing not even had to get the house party too. Although we love it, we love House Party. We love the whole franchise of House Party. Okay, don't get it twisted, but nothing can replace the original House Party. And in a minute, I'mma have to give y' all the top five of all top five, you know what I mean? I'mma have to do that. When it comes to black cinema, it's going to be. I'm going to do a top five versus a Mount Rushmore. And I'm going to tell you the difference between the two. But I'm going with boys in the hood. And why would I go with boys in the hood? I mean, legendary cast, okay? From Ice Cube to Morris Chestnut. Yo, yo, Cuba Gooding Jr. Lawrence Fishburne, Angela Bassett. My, my, my, my. Should have been baby mama. Nia Long, Regina King. Okay, come on. And look, look, I'm gonna throw in another little fun fact. Hey, I might have fun facts all through this joint, but this is your other fun fact. Donovan McCray. I don't know if that'd be saying their names right, but I used to go to that. I, I, I didn't know him. Did I meet, did I meet Darius McCray? Because he is, you know, y' all know him from Family Matters, but they're brothers, okay? And it just so happened that the other brother that didn't get as much fame as you know, this brother, he was in a legendary hood classic, you know what I'm saying? He was the young Ricky that got the, they took his football. Oh, man, Mad dog in there. Yo. Did y' all see the fun fact recently that's been going viral when he was, when he threw the ball back after acting all rah rah, talking about getting a little nigga his ball back and he threw it back to him and then soon after he got kicked in his ass. That's crazy. But yeah, that's what I'm going with. That's what I'm going with when it comes to 1991. Now let's move on to 1992. Strong. Listen, this might be one of the strongest lists out of the whole 90s because it has another top 10 in there. Okay? Another top 10 might be two, depending on your era. And no, I think it might just be that. Okay, but we going with Juice. My God. Class acts, huh? Mo Money Boomerang. Malcolm X. What? What A. Y', all. Y' all could have a. That might be a difficult one right there. That might be another difficult one right there because all of them are fire. But I'm gonna tell you right there, the process of elimination. Class acted here. Love it. Don't get me wrong. I love it. It can go up against a lot of these other movies on this list, but not this one, okay? Because for 1992, I'm 10 years old. And. And let me tell you, 192, my nigga. In 1992. 1992 has a strong case to go against any decade for the best year of movies overall. Fight me on that one. 12 Cal Brit J. Bizzle, if you want to jump in a ring, anybody Drake, huh? Shan G Jizzle, let me know the cool out corner. You niggas too, let me know. Smash. I don't know if he know as much as we think he knows, but that can fight me on it. 1992. Yeah, I'm not even about to. I'm not even about to break down my list because I'll bring it to the fight. But as far as this, this one right here, that need to break down. Process of elimination. A class that gotta go. More money gotta go. That one hurt. That one hurts. So that just leaves Juice, Boomerang, and Malcolm X. That is a strong ass. That's that three alone. Hall of Fame. All them niggas is going into the hall of Fame at the same time. They're getting their gold jackets at the same time. Okay, y' all not understanding. We talking about Tupac, we talking about Denzel, and we talking about Eddie Murphy. You want to talk about black excellence? I don't think y' all understand how important that Malcolm X movie was to us or is to steal. Beautiful movie. Beautiful. Beautiful. And Juice. Come on, man. I'mma say this. I heard some people say that, you know, you gotta take a half a point away, maybe a full point, because of the ending. And that's cool, because up until the ending, it's kind of like scream 7 to me. Love the whole movie until the ending. You know what I'm saying? It's like the J. Cole album. I didn't really care too much until the ending. I could even lie to you. The bonus track. I love that song. But Juice was just a good movie through all the way through, except for the ending. I agree. It didn't bother me. I understood it for what it was supposed to be and what it meant when he said, you got the juice. Now I get it. But it kind of like we almost didn't need it. But I understood where he was coming from. You got the juice. Now you can sell that merch. And it's going. It's going to hit. Because as corny as it sounds, it's still a staple. Like, when I think of Juice, I'm going to think of that, amongst other things. This nigga's scared. This nigga scared is one of my favorite lines. This nigga scared. You don't want the girls to be around you when this nigga's scared is going on. Okay? And the eggs that nigga made. Come on, man. And here's. That's the. That's the original thing right there. Like mixing in the. The. The lunch meat, the. The sandwich meat with the eggs. Throw some cheese in it. You just threw me off. When you do the same eyes. And when you do the 40 ounce up in there, that's when you threw me off. I'm gonna eat the rest. Cause we. And you throw out on some bread, probably toasted. Throw some cheese up in there. We was doing it. It looked crazy. Cause he probably didn't cook it as good as he could have. But I knew what he was trying to do with that, you know what I'm saying? Seeing your. Seeing your baby mama getting picked up by another. Okay. With a car, that's gonna be painful no matter what. You know what I'm saying? The power of that gun. You know, it's just this. From what I heard, this takes over new identity. You know what I'm saying? This nigga scared. The nigga said, you gonna. What you gonna do? Shoot me in the. In the elevator in front of all these people? And Pac was like, great idea, nigga. Yes. And that's Juice. But then we get to Boomerang. And the reason why I'm picking Boomerang over Malcolm X and Juice is because to me, it highlighted black excellence. And I know you're saying, nigga, what do you think Malcolm X is? I'm not trying to separate the two when I say black excellence. That's not what I'm trying to say. But that was a. To me, a biopic that was much needed, and it told a story, especially to the youngsters that may not have understood what was going on. And we understand his role in our. In our. In our culture. We understand that. But living in today times at that time, I needed to see men of power that look like me and friendship and how they struggle within their relationships with women. No, basically, you're learning how to. And not to talk and treat women. You seen the progression of a scorn woman when it came to Halle Berry's role. You see what I'm saying? You've seen promiscuous women, You've seen loud women, You've seen older cougars, you know what I'm saying? You've seen women of business that acted like, you know, it was just power. You had all of that. You had friendships. You had bullshit that happened with inside the friendships. You know what I mean? You had. It was a lot going on in that film. We not even gonna get to the soundtrack, which is probably top three of all time, but we just talking about a lot of shit that. Raised us, you know what I mean? Like, it was. It was a positive. It was positive content created. Even though it had some things in there that we still see today, you know what I'm saying? A lot of. A lot of actions that was going on between the relationships between a man and a woman. You can see the division amongst, like, the gender wars today, you know what I'm saying? It has so many different versions of women characters in there versus the men. And I just thought it was phenomenal. But at the same time, you seen excellence all around that movie. Like when you seen Marcus Place, you know what I'm saying? Like, and they was rich within the community. When you see how the kids just loved. They teach her, you know what I'm saying? Even though the love she has for them never changed, because what she's going through personally, you know what I'm saying? And, oh, man, she was. You want to talk about 90s fine? All these women is 90s fine up in this. All right, I know, I know. I get it. I get it. So, yeah, I'm picking. I'm picking Boomerang for that reason. For those reasons right there. So we're gonna move on to 93. 93. Y' all gonna laugh. Why? Because this isn't the strongest. This isn't the strongest list. But Pure Entertainment in 1993, we got to pick one movie to watch for the whole year. And it's going to start off with us selecting maybe CB4, what's Love, Minister to Society, Poetic justice and Sister, Act 2. Now, I'm gonna get this out the way right now. Shout out to my sugar. Shout out to my sweetie plum pie. And as my wife, aka Marcedo says, aka Marcy Darcy, aka Marcy Mar, aka Barcia, aka Mrs. Baylorism. I didn't even tell her the rest of this list. She didn't even know I was talking about a list when I asked her. Because I just wanted to. I wanted to double check because you never be too sure. I'm getting older. I'm 43. So a lot of I'm forgetting, you know, just a lot of I'm forgetting. But I had to double check. She's gonna pick Sister Sister Act 2 over all these movies out the gate. There's no chance any one of these movies come close to Sister Act 2, one of her favorite movies of all time. And I'm not going to spoil her answer. And I mean, well, I'm spoiled the answer, but I'm not going to explain why. On a later note, you can ask her yourself. Or. Or I'll ask her, but at a CB4, what's Love, Minister Society, Poetic Justice, Sister Act 2. This didn't take long. There's only two movies that's considered extremely raw, entertaining, and that's Ministered Society and Poetic Justice. Another PAC movie. Another PAC movie. But I might have to go to the home team. I might have to go to the home team. And the reason. The reason why I'm going to the home team is because we. We, The Lakers, we sweeping. We already got one of the home teams winning. You know, technically, two. Word on the street, that is House Party. Was. Was. Was. Was a LA movie. Was a California movie. So that's us. That's us. That's us. That's us. Technically. Technically. Look up the. Look up the information. Look up the information. Don't. Don't fight the messenger or fight me. I'm cool with either one. But Minister Society and Poetic Justice, I'm going to have to go Minister Society because Minister Society was Boys in the Hood on steroids. I feel like Boys in the Hoods was always a. It was the top layer of la. It was. It was the introduction to Los Angeles and it really only showed one side of la, and mainly that was the west side. You know what I'm saying? Crenshaw District. So although I could relate to it, I'm familiar with the content that was in that movie, I've been in a lot of those areas where they filmed that. When it comes to Menace to Society, which is shot roughly on the east side, I could relate to that a lot. And it was more vivid than Boyz N the Hood. Yes, I know Ricky got shot. And again, I must say this, I don't want to spoil anything, but the fact that they did take Ricky back to the house after he got shot, I will never understand that at all. I don't understand bypassing the hospital, which I ain't gonna lie in that area. It's not exactly. They weren't exactly close to a hospital. But regardless, you still should have took that nigga to. You should have took him to the hospital. Right? But Minister Society was. Was great because there's a. There's a theory out there that, that, you know, Kane was. Was basically both him and O Dog, you know, he had two different personalities. He has split personalities, you know what I'm saying? Which is weird. You know, it's just a theory. It's just a theory. But some people are going to run with it because it just makes it that much more interesting. Star Studded Cats as well. And reality. Yeah. Very relatable movie. Very relatable movie. So I'm gonna go with Minister Society over Poetic Justice. Great, great drama. Love story, though, you know what I'm saying? Yo, this is your cousin Lucky. You know, that's. That's infamous in the black community. We could walk up to them now. Maybe not anymore, but back in the 90s, you could stumble upon a family reunion at one of the big ass parks and just blend in because technically we all family. Anyway, let's move on to 1994. 1994. This was a cold list. You like to hear it? Here it go. 1994. One movie to pick for the rest of the year. We got Fresh Crooklyn. Jason's lyric, above the rim and low down, Dirty, Dirty Shame. That's a strong list right there. Black people, if you not black, then you probably wouldn't understand why this is one of this. Probably the second strongest list on here. Fresh is a classic. Love that movie, huh? Stupid dope moves. I bust those stupid dope moves. Okay, now there was a lot of stuff that didn't make sense in there to me. I'm not here to critique it in that type of way, but that was a very raw movie as well. Very raw movie, you know what I'm saying? Crooklyn. I like Crookly Brooklyn, but Crooklyn is like the seventh song on a lot of hip hop CDs back in the day. It's a great song. You're going like, you're not gonna skip. When it's on, you're not gonna skip it. You know what I'm saying? It's not a go to. And I feel like you need to watch Crooklyn in the Summertime. I feel like you have to watch it then. Great movie, though. Great movie. Jason Lyric. This was Tyler Perry before Tyler Perry. And I love this movie. When it first came out, scared the shit out of me. Trench scared the shit out of me in this movie, you know what I mean? Because I'm like, what is going on? And it was like the ending was that nigga was. That thing was a demon child. Like, he. He just couldn't get out of his own way, you know what I mean? Yeah. And just like a lot of our issues in the black community, a woman is involved and a love triangle. Not even a love triangle, but the love for his brother. Love, hate for his brother. It's difficult trying to. Trying to be there. Love. Your brother fresh out of the, you know, behind bars. He went to jail ultimately for, like, protecting you and whatever else he did. Nigga had always. He been about that, he been about that. And you are the good kid, you know what I'm saying? You do everything by the book. You just happen to bump into a chick, she catches your attention, you know what I'm saying? You had to work for it. You got it, you know what I'm saying? Then your brother come home and see that a lot of your attention is being taken up by this, by this one chick. And it's like he don't know how to handle that because he ain't ever really been properly loved, you know what I'm saying? And it's hard for him. It's. Yo, the Is all upstairs. That psychological. That the. The. No medication. And this was drinking, too. Yeah, man, that was a cold movie right there. Jason. Lyric above the Rim. Another Pac movie. Yo, pac has made three appearances in the. In the 90s already. Okay? So shout out to Pac, man. What can I say? I mean, an elite basketball movie, you know what I'm saying? And it was much needed in the 90s. We had great basketball in the 90s. Great basketball. And this is one of those good ones. Low down. Dirty Shane. Hood classic. Don't get me wrong, It's. It's a hood classic for sure. Okay. Definitely a hood classic. This was the wrong list for that movie to be in. Wrong list for that kind of like CB4 too. Like CB4 is. You go. You're gonna put CB4 and low down Dirty Shame in the same. If you put them on the list, it's gonna be a dog fight. It's going to be a dog fight. Okay. Keenan Ivory, Wayne, like, is going to be a literal dog fight between those two. All right, Shout out to Chris Rock because he made a list a couple of times too. He. He been in a couple of movies too, this decade so far. But the winner is going to go to above the Rim. Yeah. Dwayne Martin's gonna go. That's gonna go to my guy. Got to. Got to, because we got the. We got shit. This came. Oh, this came from work with like the corduroy zone. My came for work with the corduroys and dropped 37 on you. What? Huh? And he was just quiet. The didn't bother nobody. You know what I'm saying? Like, leave alone, man. The did play one on one by himself, though. He's supposed to been playing against his brother. You know who. You gotta answer this question though. Like, the way. The way niggas. You gotta. You gotta explain something to me. Like how niggas died in that movie. You know what I mean? Like, shout out to Bernie Mac, first of all, you know what I'm saying? Cause Bernie Mack has a couple of movies under his belt so far as well. When we. When, you know, when we start talking about the 90s. But the way niggas die, I'll never understand it. I'll never understand it. A tap a backboard and a break and he falls out the window. Where the would you playing basketball at? Where. But look, here's the thing about parking. That movie. The was wearing Carl Kanai, wasn't he? Huh? That's when was wearing clothes three times bigger than they. What they were supposed to been wearing. Everything was baggy. Everything was baggy, you know, and then, and then, and then I got the. I got. I. I got the jersey at the crib. I got Pac's jersey at the crib from the tournament. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We got to talk about pot characters in a few. We might have to rank his characters of all time when it comes to the movies. Now we got another one coming up. The year is 1995. That was getting crazy. It's getting crazy right now. All right, because this is another strong list. This could be 2a, 2b. You know, this could be tied for second. But 1995 was cracking dead President Waiting to Exhale, Higher Learning Vampire in Brooklyn and Friday Now Let me just say this. Shout out to Eddie Murphy. Shout out to Ice Cube. Because they've been in a shitload of movies between the 90, 1990 and 95 so far. So shout out to them. Dead President, another cult classic. Okay? I'm talking about that movie right there. Hey, anytime a nigga pull up on your side of the car and start talking to your girl directly, don't even acknowledge you until she says, do you drive off. Somebody gotta do it. Somebody gotta do it. And don't if, if a nigga. Hey, not a nare nigga. Better talk to my girl while, while smoking those cigarettes. Smoking a joint or eating or a lollipop. Are you crazy? You want to talk about disrespectful? Their Presidents was it though? I mean, they showed they had, they had, they had content of the war these niggas was in, how these niggas came back. They talk about the drug addiction, lack of jobs, racism. It was cracking. Thirsty and hungry at the same time. Niggas almost got away with some bread. It was going down. But to see everybody like, yeah, Dead Presidents was one of them ones. Waiting to Exhale, another cult like classic. This was a good one. He's almost 13. One of the most classic movie scenes of all time. Whitney Houston was a part of this. Angela Bassett. They had women's up in here, you understand what I'm saying? Nice. Women's Waiting to Exhale had a classic soundtrack too. Great soundtrack. I loved it. And it was a good movie and it was a good message, you know what I'm saying? Seeing it basically show black women in their struggles in the dating world at that time, you know what I mean? And star studded cast as well. I fuck with it. Higher Learning. This set it off. You want to talk about racism, that's basically what this whole movie was about. Ice Cube, once again, once again, you know what I'm saying? Higher Learning was a. It was a good movie. It was a good movie. Hey, shout out to a Busta Rhymes. I see you. I see you. Tyra Banks. I see you. Great movie, great movie. Gonna get your blood pressure going for sure. Vampire in Brooklyn. Very underrated. Classic. Very underrated. This was a legit. This was different because this is Eddie Murphy in a scary movie. This movie was scary. You know, I was a kid, you know what I'm saying? I was a kid. I mean, we talking about, we talking about middle school. I was in middle school. But this, this, that was a legit scary movie. My legit scary movie. So I. And it had A lot of funny. The Priest, it had a lot of funny moments in that movie. A lot, a lot. And shout out to Pops. Pops has been from house party to Friday the Vampire in Brooklyn. Shout shot. Pops was in a lot of goddamn movies, man. Shout out to him. And then we have Friday. And speaking of Pops, we got Friday. Speaking of Cube, we got Friday. And this is why I gotta go with. I gotta go with Friday. Because Friday might be the best black culture movie of all time. It might be. All this shit happened on one block. Don't get me wrong. At one point, them did go to the liquor store, okay? But everything else was on that blog. Name that. Act hard. Hey, did y' all realize Big Worm was just tripping over like 40, 50 or some like that? It wasn't even a lot of money and you broke ass would not help him out. It's a lot of. It was a lot going on. And it was a lot that happened on that blog, dog. A lot that happened on that block. Legendary. Legendary. From Scared to Go Outside. Dub C was in a movie. Fun fact for y' all that don't pay attention like that. And it was a sleeping in old girl bed when she was calling, cussing out Craig, talking about, you ain't got to lie, Craig. You ain't got to lie. Now tell me who. 1996, man, we picking Friday for 95. 1996, it's getting better. 1996 was a popping year. We got. Set it off. Set it off. Don't be a menace. A Thin Line. The Preacher's Wife, Bad Beach. I mean, shout out to. Shout out to Denzel, shout out to Whitney. You know what I'm saying? They. They still. They making cameos through the 90s. Then lie. Thin line between love and hate. Another west coast movie. I love that. Chocolate City. Ladera. Ladera. La Dare. No, not. And not Ladera. We talking about. I said La Dare, not La Dare. What's the. Damn. I can't even think of it right now. I'm so mad. Leimert Park. Shit. Leimert Park. That's what I meant to say. Leimert park set it off as fire. Okay? Another cult classic. It was sad mostly. Shit popped off. Cause a nigga got his hair cut and got, you know, the nigga got the gang put in his head. That was stupid. Watch your kids at work. Don't get your kids taken away from you. And I'm in a bind, nigga. I'm in a bind. And that's not funny to laugh at at all. Trust Me, that's one thing I do not want to laugh at, but I'm in the bind. Nate is one of the coldest scenes. And it's just, it's pretty bad. It's pretty bad if you really think about it. Don't be a menace. You gotta love it. You know? I mean, shout out to. Shout out to Marlon and Sean, you know what I mean? They held it down with that, and it mimicked a lot of shit on the west coast. So that was dope. And a lot of n. Didn't get the joke about the son being older than the, the actual son, but being tucked in like he's a kid that if you don't know the joke behind that, then I can't, you know, I can't help you. But it does tie in to, it does tie into boys in the hood. A thin line. I was Lee Martin. You got, you know, Come on, man. You got Bobby Brown. My. Huh. Bobby Brown. And, and he did, and he did good. I think he did. I, I, I think he did. I think he did great in that movie. You know what I'm saying? Now that's not what we here for. We here for Lynn. Lynn Whitfield. We talking about Brandy Webs, Randy Webb. Sexy. You want to talk about sex appeal? Sex appeal was crazy. The sex appeal with Brandy Webb was crazy. But you knew something was off, huh? Soon as she starts slapping her shit in the jaw with those pool balls, it's time to. Yeah. Even though nobody's seen it, but yeah, you got to get away. You gotta. Yeah. And shout out to Regina King. She has been all through the 90s. Another one. The Preacher's Wife again. I mean, we know who was in that. And then Fat Beach. No, no. If there was any. Let me just say this. I don't want to be, I don't want to be disrespectful or anything like that. This is Fat Beats is one of those movies that you watch on a Saturday when there's nothing to do until later on and it's on. Bet that's when you're gonna watch that classic. Don't get me wrong. But it's like it's, it's a house classic. It's a house classic. It's not a strong suit is we're not going to the aliens and saying, hey, man, look here, check this out. We gonna have to. They gonna have to find that one. They're gonna have to find that one. Like a goodie bag stash a porn you. They go, hey, hey, what's this. And just tell them to throw that on. I'm gonna watch it, okay? I'mma watch it. You gotta watch it. You got to. You know, you gonna watch Coolio, you gonna watch Brian Hooks. That's who you watching it for, mainly. But they didn't. They didn't. They didn't. They didn't. They didn't have it. They didn't have a chance with this one, Big dog. No, I'm gonna go with it. I'm gonna go with it. I'm go with A Thin Line. I'm gonna go with A Thin Line. I love that movie. That movie was great. And I really wanted that love connection to happen or whatever, but, you know, he had to get out of his own way and he had to learn. And the most important thing is she wasn't the villain like that. She was crazy, but she. I mean, he hassled her. You know what I'm saying? He was persistent. Like the. Just kept. He kept going. He wanted that, and I could see why. Ready? Webb was bad, and she was breaded up. But stop playing with. Stop playing with their feelings. You stop playing with their feelings like that, you ain't gonna have no issue. Let's move on to 97, man. We're getting closer to the end right now. 97. 1997. That's when I'm in high school. Okay, 1997. Probably what, 14. And probably 14 at that point. We got Babs. Okay, you know who we gonna shout out? You know who we gonna shout out? And here's the thing. There's a movie missing off of here, but I don't think they consider it a black movie, though. But shout out to Babs. Love Jones. Eve's value. Soul food, booty call. Process of elimination with this one. And we're going to start with Babs. Babs is another Saturday movie that I' ma watch. Don't get me wrong. I like what Halle Berry did in that thing she did, okay? It's a movie that I know. It's a movie that I watch. It's a movie that I probably wouldn't change from if it came on and I was at home on a Saturday or a Sunday. But no, it don't stand a chance of me watching this for a whole year in 1997. Love Jones. That is a. And I want to stop using this term since I found out the origin story of it. But it kind of like fits, though. This is like neo soul, okay? Neo soul. That's basically what Love Jones was. It was a whole New soul movie. All right. Eve's Bayou. How do I feel about this movie? I watched it. I liked it. I think it stops right there. I think this is one of those movies where I know is it. It might be somewhat important to the culture, and I know why some people will have it as a classic, and I'm just like, okay, I'm not gonna argue with it. That's where I'm at with that one. Overall, it comes down to Soul Food and booty call. Booty call is dope because you got two square niggas that just trying to get some ass at the end of the day, you know, and they go through these obstacle courses and shit like that just to get. Just to get the. You know, because the. The. They got the running rounds right now. It's basically the running rounds. Comedy all through that. You know what I'm saying? Soul food might take it because it had one of the best black family drama scenes of all time. God damn it, Faith. God damn it, you. Because, you know, she had one of the coldest bars of all time. You know what I'm saying? When she said the family is. I don't even want to say it like that. She said it was so much venom. But y' all know the scene, and, you know, she pick up that Michael Myers knife, and she was about to do some real damage with that. Okay, about to do some. About to do some real. But, Bird, you filthy. You wrong for that. You're dead wrong for that. But that bathroom scene, I'm picking soul food. I'm picking soul food. Let's move on to 98, man, so we can close this out. 1998, pretty strong here. Y' all gonna like this one. Belly the players Club. How Stella Got Her Groove Back. Why do fools fall in love? He got game now. Why do fools fall in love? I'm. I'm putting that in the same. I'm putting that in the same boat as ease by you. Whatever I said about that movie is what I'm saying about why do. Why do fools fall in love? So that's why we're going to leave that. Okay, Now. How Stella Got Her Groove Back. Cool. Not for me. Liked it. I'm cool with it, but that's not for me. You know what I'm saying? Like that. I think that target audience was for, like, my mom at the time. Again, I'm in high school, so I'm. I'm like. I'm not the target audience for that. Although I'm watching because 90s fine type of women is in there. Okay, I'm good with that, but it's not for me. Right. So now we move on to Belly, the players club. And he got game. That's a strong three right there. That's a strong three right, right there. Because he got game. My what I think the way that movie was shot, like Spike Lee just has a way of capturing scenes in his movie. He does. It is. It's crazy how he shoots his movie, you know what I mean? And then exposed the player in your city or in your state. And behind the scenes of him getting this type of attention and all this shit thrown at him. It said a lot about basketball culture at the high school level. And I think people look past that because of the actors and actresses that's on the movie and what's going on, but they really not paying attention to the. The. The obstacles of this player and what he had to go through. You know what I'm saying? Raising his sister. You know, his. His dad was the one who got him to the point where he was playing basketball better than anybody in his state, damn near in the country. But an accident that led to his mom passing away, it. That's a heavy ass story right there is. And then when the money is. Is thrown at him and. And come on. They talk about the behind the scenes that are not like what this was before. Nil Deals. My. Like if. If the Nil deals was back then. Look, all the. That he probably would have got my. Are you kidding me? It's not gonna be an easy call right here. Not at all. Not at all. Then we got Belly. Are you kidding me? Hi Williams. That intro alone is shutting down. A lot of niggas in this in. In the 90s. Something that we never seen before. All right. Gave Jamaica a lot of love. Come on, man. And the way that shit was. The. The way that cinematography was. Was crazy. Especially the. The. The. The. The Sting. That was. That shit was crazy. That was crazy. You got Method man in there. He made a cameo like Method man, dmx, Nas, they all did great. My az like they had. They had in this. That. That we was listening to in that decade. She was crazy, man. Great movie. Classic movie. Keisha was. Oh, she will ever be Forever be fire in that movie. What? And then we got the Players Club. Oh, man, when Players Club hit. Hit the scene. That was different. Never let your young cousin come stay with you and wear draws or have her walk around in draws while. While. While Lance is there. Don't do that. Little cousin thick. She out There of thickness. Well, at the time, she 90s thick, you know what I mean? Then you got Ronnie over here setting up private events and she over there with the Bill Cosby shit. Like you can't trust her. And you damn sure can't trust her cousin who he has made another cameo because he's in another movie in the 90s, you know what I mean? Shout out to minister Society. He got his ass whoop. Got his ass whooped. And he deserved to get his ass whooped in this movie. Now, my pick. I gotta go. I gotta go. He got game. I gotta go. He got game. I have to. I have to. It's hard to pick between Belly and, and, and. And. And the players club. A lot of. A lot of funniness coming from the players club. Shit from Belly, too, but Belly was more of a drama. But he got game. That cinematography and just knowing how the basketball. How the business in basketball was back then, that's what sold it for me. And then, last but not least, 1999. Shout out to Prince, man. One movie to watch for the rest of the year. And it comes down to the Final Four. It's a hell of a Final Four. In Too Deep, the Best man, the Wood and Life. Yo, I know I said 1992 is gonna give niggas problems, but if we was to put that 92 versus this 99, taking out more money, That's a strong four versus four right there. Easy. I'm gonna do process of elimination for the last one, 1999. God damn, man. I hate to do this. It's gonna be life. It's gonna be Life. By far, by far one of the most entertaining comedies. And it has some sad moments in it too. You know, it got the racial component. You got Eddie and you got Martin. And at the time, that's major, you know what I'm saying? At the time, that's major dope. I can't knock that one, Bernie Mac, you know what I'm saying? But I can't. I can't when it comes to the other three. Because the best man, that the best. Because the best man, let me tell you, when it comes to the best man, that was a game changer to me. I think that was a game changer to black cinema, period. You know what I'm saying? Along with why Did I Get married? And stuff like that. But I think the Best. I think the Best man was one of those things where this was probably the closest film to come close to Boomerang for me. Now, they had their friendships and stuff like that. But I think what sold. I think what sold it for me was it was. It was friends trying to navigate through life with love, life on the side. That's why I fuck with the best man. I like the best man. I even like the best man, Holiday. I like all that shit. That shit is fire. But no, it's going to come down to in too deep versus the Wood. And let me just say. Into deep. You ain't no cop, J. Reed. You ain't no cop. You want to talk about crazy? They call himself God, was afraid of him in the streets. That ll had a lot of power in that movie. Okay, okay. But J. Reed, AKA Omar Epps, that nigga was undercover so long that had to go to therapy, grew his hair out, started looking like JCole. Great movie, man. Very graphic, too, in certain aspects. This. Cutting tongues off and like that, and folding up dismembering bodies and throwing them in a dumpster like that. And then inviting to his. To his baby shower like wild times. But when you talk about one of the most relatable movies of all time, when it comes to this and Baylor, the Wood, and I'm talking about. No question, it's the Wood. And I love. I love. I love life. The best man in 2D. Pause. Because when you say that all together, back to back, like I just said it, it sounds crazy. But the. And even saying the Wood, that's crazy. Yeah, this is. This is a pause category, though, because in too deep. The Wood, the best man. Pause, all of that. Okay, I don't. I know, but the Wood, like, I mean, that was where I was born at. I was born in Inglewood. Raised on the east side, though. You know what I'm saying? And I think we got a lot of west coast rep representation on his. On his. On these lists. And I think. I think we had. We might have had. Got a 3P or even more, you know, Poetic justice is the west coast movie, too, now. It's a West coast movie, too, now. Okay? So the Wood man, I think the most relatable thing is I can relate to. I can relate to Mike. I can relate to the main character. I didn't come from a different state, though. But as far as his journey through, like, elementary and middle school, I can relate to that. I can relate to that. Going to those house parties, dealing with gang members, having a crush on a girl and her brother just so happened to be a gang member. I've been through that in elementary and high school and middle school. Middle school probably was the most dangerous parties for me. High school was some dangerous parties too, but middle school was real crazy. It was real cracking in middle school. I was going to all kind of house parties. I was one of house parties on Vermont, nigga. Vermont is voted one of the most dangerous streets in la. Is the dangerous street to be on in la. Vermont, nigga. So it's the wood for me. It's the wood for me. Love it, love it, love it. You got comedy, you got throwbacks, you got again, star studded cast, black excellence. Can't beat that. Can't beat that. So that's, that's my picks for the. For that decade from 90 to 99. Just classic movie classic. But I do want to have that fade wherever I feel like they could pick another year outside of 1992. I just gave y' all one. I just gave y' all one. I don't know if y' all remember which one that was, but if y' all want to have that fade, let me know. All you movie buff, let me know. I'm ready. But those are my pigs, 12 cow. Those are my pigs, Brit. If y' all have anything to say about that, I'm gonna tell y' all right now. I'm not trying to fight with y', all, okay? I love y', all, but I'm always right. Okay? Yeah,
