- 0:03Speaker 1: Well, originally they made root beer with g that was
- 0:08Speaker 1: that was the original recipe. I love so you dirty pop?
- 0:24Speaker 1: Do you remember that era of our lives were like
- 0:27Speaker 1: that was like I mean that it's such a catchy
- 0:30Speaker 1: little like dirty pop pop. Do you know that justin Timberlake?
- 0:36Speaker 1: Just did you know that he co wrote the I'm
- 0:41Speaker 1: loving it jingle? It's a good justin Timberlake. When it's right.
- 0:48Speaker 1: It's its royalties for every time McDonald's uses the bottle
- 0:54Speaker 1: pup ba that makes me so upset. Well, you know
- 1:01Speaker 1: what also I'm loving is that we have Cole s
- 1:03Speaker 1: fully here today to talk about soda, which is a
- 1:09Speaker 1: very interesting topic for this podcast, and I'm as super
- 1:13Speaker 1: excited to get into a conversation literally about soda with
- 1:18Speaker 1: Cole who if you don't know who Cole is, like
- 1:20Speaker 1: you truly are are sleeping on some of them some
- 1:24Speaker 1: of the best culture that exists, truly. Cole is a comedian, actor, producer.
- 1:29Speaker 1: You've seen them on Search Party, on z Way, on TikTok,
- 1:34Speaker 1: on YouTube, truly everywhere, and um, today we're gonna be
- 1:38Speaker 1: talking about our favorite carbonated beverages. We really didn't know
- 1:43Speaker 1: what to expect from this episode, and we talked about
- 1:45Speaker 1: so many things that aren't soda pop, but like, let
- 1:48Speaker 1: me tell you, this is one of my faves. Yeah,
- 1:50Speaker 1: because this is like a virgin the show where we
- 1:52Speaker 1: give yesterday's pop culture today's takes. I'm rest on you now,
- 1:56Speaker 1: I'm fran Toronto. Spot up? Do we have to pay?
- 2:01Speaker 1: Justin Timber? Like, now I saw Josie on the Pussycats. Finally, Yeah,
- 2:11Speaker 1: it's terrible. It's terrible. I'm going to kill you. I
- 2:17Speaker 1: understand why people love it, and that is not my
- 2:20Speaker 1: sense of humor. I think that the movie should have
- 2:24Speaker 1: just because you don't have a good sense of human
- 2:26Speaker 1: The movie should have just been Alan Coming and Parker Posey.
- 2:29Speaker 1: And if the movie was just Alan Coming and Parker Posey,
- 2:32Speaker 1: it would have been an amazing movie. I can't do
- 2:34Speaker 1: this with you. The Pussycats are not compelling. Three of
- 2:38Speaker 1: the most uncompelling protagonists for a movie I've ever seen.
- 2:43Speaker 1: I don't know how they were cast, especially the lead girl,
- 2:47Speaker 1: like she literally looks Rachel Lee Cook. She looks like nobody.
- 2:50Speaker 1: She looks you are you are infuriated, like a shadow
- 2:55Speaker 1: of a human being with a face like a plain
- 2:58Speaker 1: white I ke A Plate and I know that, I
- 3:02Speaker 1: know that art is subjective, but I want to I
- 3:05Speaker 1: want to objectively say that you are wrong. I'm okay.
- 3:09Speaker 1: And then Josie and the Pussycuts is one of the
- 3:12Speaker 1: best movies ever made and every person in is a star.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Let's move on from this argument and talk about something
- 3:20Speaker 1: that we both love, which is girl Girl Girl Girl Girl, Girl,
- 3:25Speaker 1: Girl Girl, which is f Y Island. Um. We for
- 3:29Speaker 1: some reason forgot to talk about it last week, even
- 3:32Speaker 1: though it was the thing that we were like the
- 3:35Speaker 1: most excited to talk about. And for anyone who doesn't know,
- 3:39Speaker 1: f Boy Island is a HBO Max reality show, um
- 3:43Speaker 1: that is now in its second season. And I think
- 3:45Speaker 1: it must be said that like a show with a
- 3:47Speaker 1: title FY Island, which is a bad title for a
- 3:50Speaker 1: team hosted by Nicki Glazer. It sounds it sounds allah
- 3:53Speaker 1: milf Island, like thirty rock farce of a reality TV show,
- 3:57Speaker 1: and it kind of is. It kind of is. But
- 4:00Speaker 1: the thing is like, if you know Rose and I
- 4:03Speaker 1: you know that sometimes we like stand idiot culture and
- 4:06Speaker 1: we're like, this is so good, minions, I'm a thinking god,
- 4:09Speaker 1: but like this is a legitimately prestigiously executed reality TV
- 4:16Speaker 1: show that has totally to me like blown so many
- 4:23Speaker 1: different kind of reality TV tropes out of the water
- 4:26Speaker 1: with crystalline jokes, an excellent conceived contestants that are mind blowing,
- 4:31Speaker 1: lee stupid and yet nuanced and like manipulative. The so
- 4:37Speaker 1: the format for for virgins who have not watched it
- 4:41Speaker 1: is that there are in every season, there are three
- 4:45Speaker 1: women who are looking for love and a group of
- 4:50Speaker 1: twenty four men who have either come to the island
- 4:53Speaker 1: as f boys who you know, only want sex and
- 4:57Speaker 1: money and nice guys who are actually king for love.
- 5:00Speaker 1: And the women have to go on dates with these
- 5:02Speaker 1: guys and then at the end of every episode figure
- 5:05Speaker 1: out who they want to eliminate, and when the suitors
- 5:09Speaker 1: are eliminated, they reveal whether they're an F boy or
- 5:11Speaker 1: a nice guy. And the way the show ends is
- 5:14Speaker 1: that if the women pick an f boy, that man
- 5:18Speaker 1: has the ability to take the hundred thousand dollars that
- 5:22Speaker 1: is up for grabs to themselves or split it with them.
- 5:25Speaker 1: But if they pick a nice guy, then they split
- 5:27Speaker 1: it and you know, like ostensibly run off into the
- 5:31Speaker 1: sunset to be in love and what's funny is like
- 5:34Speaker 1: the actual competitive stakes of the show are really driving,
- 5:39Speaker 1: Like it's a really good engine for the show, and
- 5:41Speaker 1: at the same time, you don't really care about the
- 5:45Speaker 1: money as much as you care about like how it's
- 5:47Speaker 1: all going down, Like you know, over the course of
- 5:50Speaker 1: the show, it's not always a mystery what the status
- 5:54Speaker 1: of the competitors are. And I think what's really interesting
- 5:58Speaker 1: is watching these women, even when they're presented with the
- 6:02Speaker 1: cold hard evidence of their love interest being a fuck boy,
- 6:07Speaker 1: still are like, but I can fix him. It's so
- 6:11Speaker 1: actually like a scientific examination of the human condition and
- 6:16Speaker 1: our our predilection to falling in love with bad people,
- 6:21Speaker 1: like bad men, and thinking we can rehability. One thing though,
- 6:26Speaker 1: that I do like about this show is that the
- 6:29Speaker 1: women are not pitted against each other and they they
- 6:33Speaker 1: each choose kind of their pool of men pretty early
- 6:37Speaker 1: on the season, so they're not competing for the same guys,
- 6:40Speaker 1: and they actually help each other out a lot. And
- 6:44Speaker 1: I also really like I think, especially in season two,
- 6:47Speaker 1: Nikki Glazer, the host, spends a lot more time with
- 6:50Speaker 1: the women and gives them advice, and there is this
- 6:53Speaker 1: sort of like camaraderie and like sisterhood built between them
- 6:58Speaker 1: and they help each other out, which is such a
- 7:01Speaker 1: nice change from most of reality data. You would think
- 7:06Speaker 1: that they would be pitted against each other, that there
- 7:08Speaker 1: would be cat fights, that they would manipulate, that the
- 7:11Speaker 1: producers manipulate them against each other. But I would say
- 7:15Speaker 1: that even though the Funk Boys really do have an
- 7:20Speaker 1: upper hand in the game, you can't say can't say
- 7:23Speaker 1: fun is so hilarious. I love that these women just
- 7:28Speaker 1: like really getting the trenches together, and that even though
- 7:33Speaker 1: the Funk Boys sometimes have an upper hand in the game,
- 7:37Speaker 1: the show is through production, through the way that the
- 7:41Speaker 1: game is created, through all of the jokes that the
- 7:44Speaker 1: host makes, is all designed to humiliate these men. It
- 7:49Speaker 1: is completely and devoted to showcasing the idiocy of these men,
- 7:58Speaker 1: their lack of basic human relational skills, and and exploiting
- 8:04Speaker 1: that for comedy. It's very men. Am I right? Did
- 8:08Speaker 1: you watch all three episodes that dropped this. I loved
- 8:11Speaker 1: when they were like, um, this is where we would
- 8:13Speaker 1: put the footage of their date, but so funny. I
- 8:17Speaker 1: also love that pretty much all of the f boys
- 8:20Speaker 1: are named Garrett, Jarrett, Gary, or like Jared wait friend,
- 8:27Speaker 1: are you are you an F they are a nice uh?
- 8:30Speaker 1: And if they are a nice them, I think I
- 8:33Speaker 1: have some F they tendencies. I'm not gonna lie, but
- 8:37Speaker 1: I think that anybody that knows me would probably say
- 8:40Speaker 1: IM a nice thing because I'm kind of I don't
- 8:42Speaker 1: really have game, and I feel like that is the
- 8:46Speaker 1: the kiss of death for most nice guys. As like
- 8:49Speaker 1: nice as they are, they don't have like game, you know,
- 8:52Speaker 1: and that turns the girls off. Well, Rose, what do
- 8:55Speaker 1: you consider yourself? Do you consider yourself an F girl?
- 8:58Speaker 1: I'm an F girl? I mean, I know you're an
- 9:00Speaker 1: F girl, as if I needed to ask a girl. Um,
- 9:03Speaker 1: so who are you rooting for for this season? I
- 9:06Speaker 1: don't care. It's not about that for me, I don't
- 9:08Speaker 1: like the truly answer was the Italian stallion Danny. Okay,
- 9:12Speaker 1: it's Danny for me. Danny has bad hair and the
- 9:19Speaker 1: facial hair and terrible facial hair, and still and still
- 9:25Speaker 1: he is so sexy to me, and I think that
- 9:27Speaker 1: is a techn it disgusting. I was really fix him.
- 9:32Speaker 1: That is the basis statement of the show. I could
- 9:37Speaker 1: fix him. Um, what else have you been watching this weekend?
- 9:41Speaker 1: I haven't really been watching a lot of TV. I
- 9:46Speaker 1: did read a book this weekend that I really liked.
- 9:49Speaker 1: It's called Her Majesty's Royal Coven. It's by Juno Dawson,
- 9:54Speaker 1: who is a British author, and it's an urban fantasy
- 10:00Speaker 1: about this group of witches who were like friends and
- 10:04Speaker 1: childhood and now they're like kind of coming back together
- 10:07Speaker 1: in their thirties. And it examines the idea of in
- 10:11Speaker 1: a world where women are witches and men are warlocks
- 10:16Speaker 1: and they're sort of like a power and balance between them,
- 10:19Speaker 1: what happens when there are trans witches, which is I
- 10:24Speaker 1: think really interesting for a fantasy novel to examine. It's
- 10:28Speaker 1: also like very funny and very like there are so
- 10:31Speaker 1: many like really obvious references to things like Buffy and Charmed,
- 10:37Speaker 1: But I want to I want to read. It's really good.
- 10:39Speaker 1: I I read it in a weekend. It was a
- 10:41Speaker 1: really quick read. It's going to be a trilogy. The
- 10:44Speaker 1: book ends on this like insane cliffhanger. It's also it
- 10:49Speaker 1: deals a lot in turfi Ism and the villain of
- 10:53Speaker 1: the book is a turf and it's it's so cool
- 10:57Speaker 1: to see this like very real war old evil turned
- 11:02Speaker 1: into this very fantastical evil. Um, and the book is
- 11:08Speaker 1: very much I think because Juno is a trans author
- 11:12Speaker 1: in the UK, like it very much reads as a
- 11:15Speaker 1: kind of direct response to J. K. Rowling's disgusting terfism,
- 11:20Speaker 1: and I really enjoyed it. Definitely recommend it. Um. Wait,
- 11:26Speaker 1: so you saw Thor and have now watched You've now
- 11:31Speaker 1: gone backwards and watched the first couple Thor movies. Um,
- 11:36Speaker 1: so I'm very interested to hear what you thought of them. Yes,
- 11:40Speaker 1: I watched the first and half of the second because
- 11:43Speaker 1: I think the second one is like I think most
- 11:46Speaker 1: people say that that's like the worst one. I decided
- 11:49Speaker 1: to watch them, honestly, Rose because you said you kind
- 11:52Speaker 1: of preferred that that style to take a a t
- 11:55Speaker 1: d S takeover, and I knew that I was going
- 11:58Speaker 1: to like Tagas movies more. But like I loved the
- 12:01Speaker 1: first Thor movie and I thought it was so I mean,
- 12:04Speaker 1: I love that the lore of Thor and everything around
- 12:08Speaker 1: Asgard is very like Lord of the Rings, like very Rivendell,
- 12:12Speaker 1: And I like that there is a kind of medieval
- 12:15Speaker 1: energy that pumps through the first two movies in a
- 12:20Speaker 1: way that has kind of taken away from us in
- 12:23Speaker 1: the tycha iteration of it. Obviously, I'll always want like
- 12:28Speaker 1: kind of comedy and reality and things that are based
- 12:32Speaker 1: more in like like the humans of And something that
- 12:36Speaker 1: I really appreciate about the most recent two movies is
- 12:40Speaker 1: that like Thor becomes someone who's in you know what
- 12:46Speaker 1: I mean, Like Thor is sensitive, like a kind of
- 12:50Speaker 1: weird baby. Um. I think that it's really cool that
- 12:53Speaker 1: there's this like quintessential character flaw of him being like
- 12:57Speaker 1: toxically masculine in the first movie that has like really
- 13:01Speaker 1: brought him to such a full character arc um in
- 13:05Speaker 1: so many different ways, to be a much more self
- 13:09Speaker 1: realized person who maybe you know it, is proud of
- 13:13Speaker 1: his emotions and sensitivity sometimes Or isn't afraid to love
- 13:17Speaker 1: and and um and still makes mistakes, but at least
- 13:20Speaker 1: he's doing with better intentions and thinking of other people
- 13:23Speaker 1: and stuff like that. I don't know, there's a lot
- 13:25Speaker 1: about the growth of it that I appreciated. And you know,
- 13:28Speaker 1: even though that these four films that divided by two
- 13:31Speaker 1: are very separate, I still felt like the arc was
- 13:35Speaker 1: great um And I think Thor is honestly one of
- 13:38Speaker 1: my favorite franchises. Did you notice that in the first
- 13:41Speaker 1: movie his they bleached his beard and eyebrows and it
- 13:46Speaker 1: was so weird, so weird. I was like, why, I
- 13:52Speaker 1: I really failed to understand, Like, does Thor really have
- 13:56Speaker 1: to be canonically arian blonde like so much that they
- 14:01Speaker 1: needed to bleach his brows and beard like it looked
- 14:05Speaker 1: so fake. I just like I could not like it.
- 14:09Speaker 1: It was just not the t um But I but,
- 14:12Speaker 1: I mean, I'm so glad they fixed his wig and
- 14:15Speaker 1: got him together for these most recent wait we both
- 14:17Speaker 1: saw um Love and Thunder. Yeah. I I agree that
- 14:21Speaker 1: the movie. The Thor films have definitely evolved a lot.
- 14:25Speaker 1: I like what they've evolved into, but I, as you said,
- 14:29Speaker 1: I do kind of prefer the vibe of the earlier movies.
- 14:34Speaker 1: I mean, can we talk about the fact that, like
- 14:36Speaker 1: we were told this is what this was going to be,
- 14:37Speaker 1: like some super gay movie, and it was that it
- 14:41Speaker 1: was nothing of the sort. It was nothing of this sort.
- 14:44Speaker 1: And you would think that when we see this promotional
- 14:47Speaker 1: image of Tessa Thompson Natalie Portman with their arms looking
- 14:52Speaker 1: like that, their arms girl like the and they're not
- 14:56Speaker 1: going to give us even an inkling that maybe they're
- 15:00Speaker 1: gonna hook up like that was so and Natalie it
- 15:04Speaker 1: was actually overwhelmingly hetero. It was overwhelmingly heterosexual. There was
- 15:09Speaker 1: like a brief moment at the beginning where this character
- 15:12Speaker 1: named Axel could maybe be considered trans or they're teeing
- 15:17Speaker 1: it up to maybe be a trans character in the future,
- 15:19Speaker 1: which I don't even want to get into because it's
- 15:21Speaker 1: so conspiratorial and that's exactly what they want us to do. Um.
- 15:26Speaker 1: There was a brief moment where Tessa Thompson's character Valkyrie
- 15:31Speaker 1: talks about her ex girlfriend and then what the rock
- 15:35Speaker 1: guy says that he has to dads, I was like,
- 15:38Speaker 1: fuck off. And then he does get a boyfriend at
- 15:40Speaker 1: the end. Yeah, yeah, that was fine. But it's like,
- 15:42Speaker 1: I don't care about the fucking rock guy. That's not
- 15:44Speaker 1: queer representation. He's a rock, He's a Rocks are part
- 15:49Speaker 1: of the community. Okay, part of the plus if everything,
- 15:56Speaker 1: I mean, did we learn nothing from everything? Just about
- 15:59Speaker 1: to say Phoebe said, please don't erase my eco sexual
- 16:04Speaker 1: ideait I'm sure, Um, Rose, I just I know you
- 16:10Speaker 1: and I already discussed this off Mike, But like we
- 16:13Speaker 1: have to say on the record that Natalie Portman's wig
- 16:18Speaker 1: rotted absolutely. I mean, she phoned this movie in. They
- 16:23Speaker 1: gave her a billion dollars and she said, I'm going
- 16:26Speaker 1: to give you the stupidest ship you've ever seen, and yeah,
- 16:29Speaker 1: you can put this Amazon shake and go. I don't know.
- 16:33Speaker 1: I think her acting. I think her acting was exactly
- 16:35Speaker 1: as good as the movie Um deserved, you know, actually,
- 16:42Speaker 1: I mean it was. It was funny, it was actually
- 16:44Speaker 1: very interesting. It was a stark contrast to watch the
- 16:47Speaker 1: first movie after because she is her and Thor are
- 16:51Speaker 1: so much more totally grounded and it's a it's a
- 16:54Speaker 1: true romance most of the time, and the stakes are
- 16:57Speaker 1: much higher and then not really had to pivot to
- 17:01Speaker 1: being Taikawait absurd Um. And I don't know, I thought
- 17:05Speaker 1: the plotting was just like very lazy throughout and that
- 17:10Speaker 1: all the performances suffered through that. And I also just
- 17:13Speaker 1: wanted way more Tessa Thompson. Why didn't she get to
- 17:17Speaker 1: keep the Thunderbowl? Like why did she have to give
- 17:20Speaker 1: that up? I was like, that's like, I was like,
- 17:22Speaker 1: that's a perfect weapon for her to have now. And
- 17:26Speaker 1: I don't know, I thought Christian Bale was just Voldemorre. Oh.
- 17:29Speaker 1: I thought Christian Bale was actually the best part of
- 17:31Speaker 1: the movie. I thought he was. I thought he was
- 17:34Speaker 1: legitimately scary. I mean, I don't even want to give
- 17:37Speaker 1: him flowers. I thought it. I just thought that the
- 17:39Speaker 1: conceit of the villain was to Baltimore and I was,
- 17:42Speaker 1: I just I couldn't. I was certainly the look of
- 17:45Speaker 1: the villain was very Voldemore. The look of the villain
- 17:48Speaker 1: was extremely Voldemore. I thought that like a kind of
- 17:52Speaker 1: necromancer shadow dweller thing. I was, like, that just feels
- 17:56Speaker 1: Lord of the ringsy Voldemort. Well, I mean, everything is drive,
- 18:00Speaker 1: But I think this is this is a movie that's
- 18:02Speaker 1: a It's literally about bringing all these you know, gods
- 18:07Speaker 1: from different pantheon's together. It's like the most derivative it
- 18:10Speaker 1: possibly could be, which I thought was on the writing level,
- 18:14Speaker 1: really fun. There's this scene where all the gods they
- 18:17Speaker 1: go to like a god convention essentially, or like a
- 18:19Speaker 1: meeting of all the gods, Greek gods, Norse gods, like
- 18:23Speaker 1: God's from all over and um. And I thought that
- 18:26Speaker 1: that was like I laughed throughout and it was. It
- 18:29Speaker 1: was one of the better parts of the movie. I
- 18:31Speaker 1: think don't need to see Russell Crowe and the m
- 18:33Speaker 1: see you though, Like my fucking god. But you know,
- 18:36Speaker 1: the movie is fine. The movie is really fine. I
- 18:41Speaker 1: mostly like just kind of don't think we need more
- 18:44Speaker 1: Thor movies. And I wonder if there's going to be
- 18:47Speaker 1: another one, because you know, Comic Con was this weekend
- 18:50Speaker 1: and they announced like the next two phases of Marvel,
- 18:54Speaker 1: and it doesn't look like there's another Thor movie coming
- 18:57Speaker 1: anytime soon, although I'm sure he'll show up in other stuff,
- 19:02Speaker 1: like the two Avengers movies that are coming out. God,
- 19:08Speaker 1: I am so I'm fatigued just hearing the announcement of
- 19:12Speaker 1: two more Avengers. But I'm so excited for Agatha Coven
- 19:15Speaker 1: of Chaos obviously. I'm also excited for Echo, this kind
- 19:20Speaker 1: of indigenous story that we're getting. Oh did you watch
- 19:24Speaker 1: the Black Panther trailer? No? Was it good? Oh my god, girl,
- 19:28Speaker 1: It's like it was very emotional. Oh my god, I
- 19:31Speaker 1: have goosebumps even and Angela Bassett was eating Oh my god.
- 19:36Speaker 1: I mean, that's one of my favorite Marvel films ever.
- 19:39Speaker 1: I actually need to rewatch tbh um. Speaking of Angela Bassett,
- 19:44Speaker 1: this is a nice segue into talking about Nope, because
- 19:46Speaker 1: did you see the incredible impression of Angela Bassett that
- 19:50Speaker 1: Kiki Palmer did as part of her Nope press tour. No,
- 19:54Speaker 1: I haven't, and I haven't seen Nope either. You have
- 19:56Speaker 1: to check it out. Well, I want I'll talk about
- 19:59Speaker 1: Nope briefly because I'm sure once you see it will
- 20:01Speaker 1: do like a more deep dive discussion. But what I'll say,
- 20:05Speaker 1: and I'm still kind of like formulating my thoughts about Nope,
- 20:08Speaker 1: but it was a very different movie than I was
- 20:10Speaker 1: expecting it to be. It was much more thoughtful. It's
- 20:16Speaker 1: still like, you know, a big summer action blockbuster, but
- 20:20Speaker 1: like much more heady than I was expecting. And if
- 20:24Speaker 1: you're like kind of placing it in the pantheon of
- 20:31Speaker 1: horror sci fi action films, it's much closer to Arrival
- 20:38Speaker 1: than it is to Independence Day. If that's like the
- 20:41Speaker 1: spectrum that I'm creating for for where those kind of
- 20:46Speaker 1: sci fi movies can be. And it's not scary, right,
- 20:50Speaker 1: I didn't think it was very scary, But what I'm saying,
- 20:53Speaker 1: it's like it's much more hetty and thoughtful and like
- 20:57Speaker 1: introspective and like is really trying to say some thing
- 21:00Speaker 1: about I think like celebrity and surveillance culture. Um. But
- 21:06Speaker 1: you know, well, I won't spoil anything. We'll talk about
- 21:08Speaker 1: it more once you've seen it. But KICKI Palmer is
- 21:12Speaker 1: such a star, um, and she is incredible in this film.
- 21:17Speaker 1: I liked it much more than Us, which I did
- 21:21Speaker 1: not really love. I loved Us. I felt like it's
- 21:25Speaker 1: such a difficult, like sophomore follow up to the masterpiece
- 21:29Speaker 1: that is Get Out with Note. I'm I'm really excited
- 21:33Speaker 1: to see it, um, but I want to keep my
- 21:35Speaker 1: hopes low. As a huge Jordan Peel stand like I,
- 21:39Speaker 1: I'm just like every I just wish he would just
- 21:41Speaker 1: make more. I want like more and more and more
- 21:43Speaker 1: from No. I think I think it's good for him
- 21:45Speaker 1: to I think quality control is very important and that's
- 21:49Speaker 1: and that's what keeps him as you know, he really
- 21:52Speaker 1: is now a must see director. Like when I saw
- 21:55Speaker 1: the movie on a Saturday afternoon, it was packed and
- 21:59Speaker 1: his films are no event event movie is I was
- 22:16Speaker 1: not allowed to drink soda and or pop um when
- 22:20Speaker 1: I was a kid. We were a healthy household. Yes,
- 22:22Speaker 1: so you you call it pop? So did you grow
- 22:26Speaker 1: up in the PMW, the Pacific Northwest, and we call
- 22:30Speaker 1: it pop. We call it pop. But in other places,
- 22:33Speaker 1: can you break down the soda slash pop dichotomy? If
- 22:38Speaker 1: not binary, I don't know where. I don't know where
- 22:41Speaker 1: the line is. I don't know if it's the Mississippi
- 22:44Speaker 1: or dialectical. I mean, I know in the South they
- 22:46Speaker 1: call it it's all coke. It's all coke, right, it's
- 22:49Speaker 1: even pepsi as coke. Yeah, and even seven up is coke,
- 22:53Speaker 1: Like what kind of coke you want? Yeah? Because what
- 22:55Speaker 1: kind of coke you want? And then some people say
- 22:57Speaker 1: cola like put my as he tastes like pepsicola exactly
- 23:03Speaker 1: is already famously said. But you fall on the pop
- 23:05Speaker 1: lines pop. But I wanted to be not from where
- 23:10Speaker 1: I was from, so I called it soda as like
- 23:13Speaker 1: a kind of sort of like, I'm not like you all,
- 23:16Speaker 1: not like other girls. I'm not like other girls. So
- 23:20Speaker 1: I have to know why is soda or pops so
- 23:24Speaker 1: important to you? It's well, I mean it says so.
- 23:27Speaker 1: I mean, already we know now that Fran was parented, Yes,
- 23:32Speaker 1: because of pop a k A soda. It was that dangerous,
- 23:36Speaker 1: It was that and like what did you grow up
- 23:39Speaker 1: drinking pop? Like what kind of soda was? Yeah? I did,
- 23:43Speaker 1: but it was restricted. So um, you know when I
- 23:46Speaker 1: was a teenager, only diet sodas were kept in the house.
- 23:50Speaker 1: My mom was very like health conscious. Um my grand
- 23:55Speaker 1: and you know what, I guess I do know what
- 23:58Speaker 1: kind of soda every person in my life prefers, you know,
- 24:03Speaker 1: like I know my grandma will only drink like caffeine
- 24:06Speaker 1: free diet coke, the caffeine free that nice pretty gold can. Yeah.
- 24:12Speaker 1: I mean I'm a coke girl unless I'm on an
- 24:14Speaker 1: airplane and then it's ginger ale all the way. I
- 24:16Speaker 1: don't know why ginger ale tastes better in the air,
- 24:20Speaker 1: but it does well. They say that like, um, it's
- 24:24Speaker 1: like the bubbles, like when you order diet coke on
- 24:27Speaker 1: an airplane that, um, it takes a long time for
- 24:31Speaker 1: the bubbles to go down, like in the air for
- 24:33Speaker 1: some reason. So it's one of those days harbonated longer.
- 24:36Speaker 1: But it's one of those things that flight attendants hate
- 24:39Speaker 1: it when you order diet coke because they pour it
- 24:40Speaker 1: and then they have to stand there and wait for
- 24:42Speaker 1: the like the foam to go like like another diet coke.
- 24:48Speaker 1: I had a flight attendant on my flight here. She
- 24:51Speaker 1: I slept for like most of the flight, but I
- 24:53Speaker 1: did wake up when the beverage cart came around and
- 24:55Speaker 1: she bent down to be like, anything for you, sweetie,
- 24:58Speaker 1: and I you know, I was wearing a mask and
- 24:59Speaker 1: I and I gave it for you. By the way,
- 25:01Speaker 1: I said, UM, can I have some apple juice please?
- 25:04Speaker 1: Because that's like that might go to flight beverages or
- 25:08Speaker 1: apple juice or ginger app if I'm flying economy. That
- 25:12Speaker 1: is that's very like tummy safe. Yeah, it is, um,
- 25:15Speaker 1: And she went, I can't hear you, sweetie. And I
- 25:18Speaker 1: was like, and all have an apple juice. And she said,
- 25:24Speaker 1: I still can't hear anything you're saying. And I went
- 25:28Speaker 1: an apple jice and the song chops, and she went,
- 25:33Speaker 1: I still can't hear it. What what what a thing
- 25:35Speaker 1: you're saying. And the person next to me was like
- 25:37Speaker 1: getting annoyed because I was being very loud, right, um,
- 25:40Speaker 1: And so I pulled my mouth down and I'll have
- 25:42Speaker 1: an apple juice and sonships. She was like, okay, now
- 25:45Speaker 1: I got it. The mask on. She wanted to see
- 25:49Speaker 1: the lips. I mean maybe she was hard of hearing.
- 25:51Speaker 1: I don't know, like no, no, no, no, no, let's
- 25:53Speaker 1: let's put her on black and here's her name and
- 25:56Speaker 1: her bad let's and this is the flight root that
- 26:00Speaker 1: I took. That old not old enough, I mean five minutes.
- 26:04Speaker 1: And we've already learned so much about the cultural power
- 26:07Speaker 1: of soda and or pop. Honestly, I mean I grew up,
- 26:10Speaker 1: that's all. That's all we drank. I don't know if
- 26:12Speaker 1: I ever had water until I moved to New York
- 26:14Speaker 1: when I was eighteen. I really don't know. And was
- 26:18Speaker 1: it was it coke or was it pepsi? It was
- 26:20Speaker 1: Safeway brand lemon lime soda? You know, special occasions were
- 26:26Speaker 1: root beer, root beer. But you know that's a thing.
- 26:30Speaker 1: There are people who only drink soda. I really only
- 26:34Speaker 1: drink saltzer now because I have to, But I would
- 26:38Speaker 1: prefer I would I rather be drinking um seven up? Yes?
- 26:41Speaker 1: Are your pop preferences still lemon lime soda? Or do
- 26:45Speaker 1: you have now it's diet coke. It's all about diet coke.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Why not coke zero? Because I like the taste of
- 26:53Speaker 1: the aspartame. It sort of tastes like regular coke. But
- 26:59Speaker 1: with well or like, it's sort of like um. The
- 27:04Speaker 1: taste reminds me of how a new sneaker smells. Yeah, well,
- 27:08Speaker 1: it's it's definitely yeah chemicals. It's definitely its own flavor.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Because I would say coke zero is trying to taste
- 27:15Speaker 1: like coke diet coke it is coke zero is passing um,
- 27:21Speaker 1: and coke zero like is non binary. I mean, diet
- 27:25Speaker 1: coke is non binary. It's like its own thing. I'm
- 27:28Speaker 1: not trying to fit in anywhere on the gender spectrum, right,
- 27:32Speaker 1: it makes sense on conformity here in the pop world.
- 27:36Speaker 1: I mean Pepsi and coke. I think we're both developed
- 27:39Speaker 1: by pharmacists. Well, coke famously used to have cocaine in it,
- 27:43Speaker 1: right everyone, which it still did, which I know, and
- 27:46Speaker 1: then they tried to do new coke or whatever. Do
- 27:49Speaker 1: you remember that? Yeah, but I think it was like
- 27:51Speaker 1: a marketing thing because then everyone really wanted original coke back,
- 27:54Speaker 1: and well they were trying to make it more like pepsi, right, Okay,
- 27:59Speaker 1: because I I can't say the difference. Are we a
- 28:01Speaker 1: pepsi family or a coke family? I mean I go
- 28:06Speaker 1: for diet coke, but you know, did I because of
- 28:10Speaker 1: Britney Spears was I when I was a kid. Of course.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Actually we have to talk about the Pepsi's versus coke
- 28:17Speaker 1: wars of the early adds and how that Britney Spears,
- 28:22Speaker 1: Christina and Pink commercial was like the Gladiator one and
- 28:28Speaker 1: was later the Carmen hip Hopera. No, Beyonce was in
- 28:32Speaker 1: the Gladiator was was she really? It's yeah, I don't
- 28:36Speaker 1: know this ad. You're talking Gladiator. I just remember, just
- 28:42Speaker 1: enjoy the It's Beyonce, Brittany and Pink. Oh I thought
- 28:46Speaker 1: it was Christina. So Brittany, Beyonce and Pink we're in.
- 28:50Speaker 1: But it's pepsi. It's not coke. It's right. And this
- 28:53Speaker 1: was an ongoing contract with Beyonce because I remember another
- 28:58Speaker 1: Pepsi commercial. We're in Beyonce A does the Carmen like
- 29:01Speaker 1: the Carmen Opera, but they rewrite the lyrics to like
- 29:04Speaker 1: be about pepsi. Um. But that era I think of
- 29:07Speaker 1: Pepsi that was like, I mean, nothing was more thrilling
- 29:10Speaker 1: than are you? Why don't they get they don't really
- 29:14Speaker 1: get the girls to do coke coke vers talking about
- 29:20Speaker 1: Pepsi and coke the same way anymore, just the fuel
- 29:23Speaker 1: of the war is not there. We do kind of
- 29:25Speaker 1: live in a post soda world, I think because because
- 29:28Speaker 1: because of the advent of Lacroix, Michelle Obama got she
- 29:33Speaker 1: got in that Oval office and took our SODA's away. Yeah, well,
- 29:39Speaker 1: I mean soda, soda is really bad for you. It
- 29:43Speaker 1: is so bad for you, and and even I mean
- 29:46Speaker 1: diet coke. Like, but then there were also I mean,
- 29:50Speaker 1: do you remember Jones Soda? Yeah, yeah, what's Jones soda?
- 29:54Speaker 1: Jones Soda was like the artisanalster. Yeah, but it was
- 29:57Speaker 1: like available in my like grocery store grocery stores. It
- 30:00Speaker 1: had like new like real sugar in it or something
- 30:03Speaker 1: or something like that, sugarcane. But they also they have
- 30:05Speaker 1: a bottled Shirley Temple that I really would try. Well,
- 30:09Speaker 1: they were hipster because they had black and white photos
- 30:12Speaker 1: on their label. It's it was giving Tumbler. It was
- 30:15Speaker 1: Tumbler before it was like original Instagram where you put
- 30:18Speaker 1: a filter on everything and it had the border. Yes,
- 30:21Speaker 1: it was it was like I think actually maybe Jones
- 30:24Speaker 1: Soda like was the seed for Instagram. But they also
- 30:29Speaker 1: had like green apple and blue bubblegum and my favorite
- 30:32Speaker 1: was melon. They had a melon flavor, and I thought,
- 30:35Speaker 1: I was so she what kind of melon do you
- 30:37Speaker 1: think it was? It was sort of like cantalope. Really yeah,
- 30:40Speaker 1: maybe a little honey do ish. I never would have
- 30:42Speaker 1: guessed that because that's not really a favorable melon. It's
- 30:45Speaker 1: like kind of one of the least popular fruits. I mean,
- 30:48Speaker 1: because I mean those are really cantle opened um, honey
- 30:51Speaker 1: dew are sort of the only melon. Well, I was
- 30:53Speaker 1: thinking water well, but then you would say watermelon, yeah,
- 30:56Speaker 1: you would never would You would never call water melon
- 30:58Speaker 1: and melon. You know what I used to get a
- 31:00Speaker 1: lot like at a Barnes and Noble cafe was an
- 31:04Speaker 1: Italian soda. Oh my god. I grew up getting those
- 31:07Speaker 1: as well. Those are my favorite, really good. Those are
- 31:10Speaker 1: the creamy ones, are they? Well? You can you can
- 31:13Speaker 1: get a creamy it's like seltzer and then they put
- 31:16Speaker 1: some kind of with our cream they add into I
- 31:19Speaker 1: always got it with cream and I love a cream soda.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Dr Brown's cream soda. If you like, go to cats
- 31:25Speaker 1: and get you know, a corned beef sandwich. I honestly,
- 31:27Speaker 1: I I didn't drink any of these growing up, So
- 31:30Speaker 1: I feel like I'm I'm only now getting into the bread.
- 31:34Speaker 1: When were you like, um, did you like go to
- 31:36Speaker 1: friends houses and likesoda there always and it was always bad?
- 31:41Speaker 1: It was naughty. Well, no, because I had been so
- 31:44Speaker 1: conditioned to not enjoy soda that when I when I
- 31:47Speaker 1: would go to my friend's house and they were like
- 31:48Speaker 1: serving soda or whatever, I would drink it and the
- 31:51Speaker 1: carbonation was too much for me. Like it was like
- 31:54Speaker 1: I was like stimulated and I was like this hurts
- 31:57Speaker 1: my mouth, like I can't handle it. Um. But now
- 32:00Speaker 1: I mean, actually, okay, So you said earlier that you
- 32:02Speaker 1: know the soda order of all the important people in
- 32:04Speaker 1: your life. So I'm wondering if you what do I get?
- 32:06Speaker 1: I don't know because there are two correct answers. You
- 32:10Speaker 1: get a coke? No, actually no, you get selt You
- 32:15Speaker 1: just get Seltzer. Do I get a flavored Seltzer? Do
- 32:18Speaker 1: you remember what flavor? No? Lemon lime or blue Power Raid?
- 32:24Speaker 1: Blue Power Raid? Yes, not a soda, but it is
- 32:27Speaker 1: what I get. But it comes does it come from
- 32:28Speaker 1: a fountain? There's a at the a m C at them.
- 32:32Speaker 1: This is an m C commercial. Um at the Yeah,
- 32:36Speaker 1: this is a sponsored podcast. Um, brought to empowered by
- 32:39Speaker 1: Nicole kidman Um. There is like a big it's one
- 32:42Speaker 1: of those machines where it has the screen and they
- 32:45Speaker 1: have like seven hundred different kinds of out of one thing.
- 32:49Speaker 1: It's like, yeah, and then your your drink kind of
- 32:53Speaker 1: taste a little tiny bit like the last drink someone happen. Well,
- 32:56Speaker 1: that reminds me, did y'all ever do graveyard of course,
- 33:01Speaker 1: where you get a little bit of every different flavor
- 33:04Speaker 1: At the McDonald in the Midwest, we called that the suicide.
- 33:08Speaker 1: We would also call it suicide cereal mixed cereals, and
- 33:11Speaker 1: you know, it's disgusting but also delicious. It was so
- 33:16Speaker 1: fun feeling like a chef, like a little of this.
- 33:20Speaker 1: You're the barista, and you know what I do still
- 33:24Speaker 1: kind of do that because like a at AMC, I'll
- 33:28Speaker 1: get like mostly regular coke and then a little cherry
- 33:30Speaker 1: coke at the just then a little kiss like but
- 33:36Speaker 1: then I've also been getting slurpees a lot recently, and
- 33:38Speaker 1: I do I do know at at the movie theater
- 33:42Speaker 1: and so I'll do wild cherry on the bottom, then coke,
- 33:45Speaker 1: then a little more cherry than a little more coke
- 33:47Speaker 1: than a little cherry on top and it kind of swirls.
- 33:49Speaker 1: But the thing with a slurpee is that like two
- 33:53Speaker 1: thirds of the way in, it's hard as a rock
- 33:55Speaker 1: and you can't get anything out. Yeah, they got to
- 33:58Speaker 1: figure that out. It's been here they do. Maybe like
- 34:01Speaker 1: there's like a you crack the cup and it heats
- 34:03Speaker 1: up a little. The rest of it. It's a camel crush. Honestly,
- 34:24Speaker 1: along the party lines from childhood lines of like what
- 34:28Speaker 1: pop did you grow up? I also feel like cereals
- 34:30Speaker 1: are also a very like defining thing of like how
- 34:34Speaker 1: you grew up? Did you have specific cereals that you
- 34:36Speaker 1: are growing up? I was a Kicks girl Kicks. We
- 34:41Speaker 1: had It's like the little like corn puffs. It tastes
- 34:44Speaker 1: like kind of nothing. Yeah, they're they're pretty bland kicks
- 34:47Speaker 1: and hunting up bunches of oats were yeah yeah or
- 34:51Speaker 1: me and sometimes like um a um, what's the um
- 34:57Speaker 1: oh frosted miniwheats. I wish they were frosted on both
- 35:02Speaker 1: sides too cheap skates. I know that was actually one
- 35:07Speaker 1: of Michelle Obama's crossing off and you know what, I
- 35:13Speaker 1: want even less on that one side. Well, if there
- 35:15Speaker 1: are some you can get them where. It's just I
- 35:17Speaker 1: know that it wants to eat a soggy, milky piece
- 35:24Speaker 1: of wheat and then it's like cutting up the roof
- 35:27Speaker 1: of your mouth because it's so hard shredded. It's shredded,
- 35:31Speaker 1: literally shredding your mouth. What's we did you? Um? I
- 35:38Speaker 1: mean talk about class like you know, we would we
- 35:41Speaker 1: would have to buy the bag cereal that was underneath
- 35:45Speaker 1: and even though like we couldn't, you know, I was.
- 35:47Speaker 1: I was such a brat, like I was. I was
- 35:50Speaker 1: so mean to my mom, who was just you know,
- 35:52Speaker 1: like trying to do the best she could. I was like,
- 35:56Speaker 1: I'm not going to eat this, like I want name
- 36:00Speaker 1: branch give me. I loved I loved honey bunches of oats.
- 36:06Speaker 1: My grandma would buy honey bunches of oats and then
- 36:09Speaker 1: put like, um, canned milk, like carnation milk that was
- 36:15Speaker 1: like sweet milk. But yeah, it was so sweet. It
- 36:21Speaker 1: was like so imagine me like waking up in the
- 36:24Speaker 1: morning having an orange soda and like sugary honey bunches
- 36:29Speaker 1: of oats with that sweet milk on too, of sweet
- 36:33Speaker 1: a bowl of sweet thick milk. Okay, so do you
- 36:36Speaker 1: do you drink the cereal milk when you're done eating? No, never,
- 36:39Speaker 1: because what I love about leftover cereal milk is then
- 36:42Speaker 1: it's like, well, I guess I have to add a
- 36:44Speaker 1: little more cereal until this is all gone. At fran,
- 36:48Speaker 1: what were your childhood cereals? Raisin bran and I still
- 36:57Speaker 1: okay pretty good? Um. I I did love frosted many weeks,
- 37:05Speaker 1: and we did have kicks growing up. My sister loved kicks, um.
- 37:10Speaker 1: And then I think we had like Life cereal do
- 37:14Speaker 1: you remember, Oh, I love cinnamon Life. Also, why is
- 37:16Speaker 1: it called who named it? Life? Cereal? Like that to me? Seventies?
- 37:21Speaker 1: Did it happening association with the magazine? Maybe? I don't know.
- 37:26Speaker 1: I don't know because the game, the Game of Life,
- 37:28Speaker 1: the Game of Life and Life magazine The Game of
- 37:30Speaker 1: Life actually one of the most boring board games absolutely,
- 37:34Speaker 1: like literally it takes seven years to hate it. Always
- 37:37Speaker 1: liked it. And yeah, so why would you make have
- 37:40Speaker 1: a game that was just like life like expensive? And
- 37:44Speaker 1: so what was young Cole doing while they were you know,
- 37:47Speaker 1: drinking a pop? Oh? I mean pop was just that
- 37:52Speaker 1: was like water, So it was like any any anything,
- 37:55Speaker 1: I mean, but I loved um. Uh god, I remember,
- 37:59Speaker 1: I remember was twenty five cents in that machine at
- 38:02Speaker 1: the safe um and what a steel? Yeah, what a steel?
- 38:06Speaker 1: And then returning the cans in Oregon, you know, five
- 38:10Speaker 1: cents deposit. Oh my god, that is a fifth of
- 38:14Speaker 1: the price of the soda. I know, I know, God,
- 38:17Speaker 1: times have really changed this. What does this country come
- 38:20Speaker 1: to once Michelle Obama took over? Expensive of these days?
- 38:26Speaker 1: How much is soda actually? Actually the idea? So I
- 38:29Speaker 1: actually think soda is really cheap. And I remember a
- 38:31Speaker 1: couple of years ago when they made all soda McDonald's
- 38:35Speaker 1: a dollar, no matter what size it was. I was like, oh,
- 38:38Speaker 1: they really are trying to keep us like really fat.
- 38:40Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, Well they have healthy options now at
- 38:46Speaker 1: Apple slices that are probably like still the same amount
- 38:50Speaker 1: of calories as Do you ever work at a fast
- 38:52Speaker 1: food restaurant? I worked at an Arby's in high school.
- 38:59Speaker 1: What's the Arby's work? Well, I was actually, well, I'm
- 39:03Speaker 1: a vegan now and for some reason, I was also
- 39:05Speaker 1: a vegan then when I worked at arby So you
- 39:09Speaker 1: never had armies, no, no, but I would like, you know,
- 39:12Speaker 1: take the big thing of roast beef out of that
- 39:15Speaker 1: big wet bag that it came in. It was like
- 39:18Speaker 1: just like we described it. It was like just imagine
- 39:22Speaker 1: a big hunk of meat like but with a layer
- 39:25Speaker 1: of salt water around it in a big plastic bag vacuum. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 39:31Speaker 1: And it's just like how did you have to think?
- 39:33Speaker 1: How did you what did you have to do with it?
- 39:35Speaker 1: You have to rip it open? And well I worked
- 39:37Speaker 1: to the drive through, so I never had to do
- 39:39Speaker 1: that interface with the customer. Yeah. Yeah, I was like,
- 39:42Speaker 1: you know, like, hey, I'll entertain the truth. You keep
- 39:47Speaker 1: them fed. Boys. I did have to like sometimes replace
- 39:51Speaker 1: the cheese bag. What's the cheese bag? The same concept? Yeah,
- 39:57Speaker 1: it was liquid cheese that like goes onto the Honestly,
- 40:00Speaker 1: this is all making me want arbies. I mean it does.
- 40:04Speaker 1: I'm a vegan. It looks incredible, does it really? Also,
- 40:07Speaker 1: it probably like isn't meat? No, I'm sure it's not.
- 40:10Speaker 1: It's definitely not cheese. Yeah, it's not cheese. I don't
- 40:13Speaker 1: know what part of a cow that that thing would be.
- 40:17Speaker 1: It's kind of giving not to nerd out a little bit.
- 40:19Speaker 1: But there is an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer
- 40:22Speaker 1: where Buffy works at a fast food restaurant, and the
- 40:25Speaker 1: whole thing is that there's a burger that everyone loves
- 40:28Speaker 1: and has two types of meat, and she thinks that
- 40:31Speaker 1: like the secret is that it's people. But what turns
- 40:34Speaker 1: out at the end is the secret that it's not
- 40:35Speaker 1: really meat. It's like vegetarian. And I would totally believe that,
- 40:40Speaker 1: like Arbies if they were like, this isn't really roast beef.
- 40:42Speaker 1: It's just like it's just wheat gluten and like salt. Yeah,
- 40:47Speaker 1: I mean, I actually don't know anybody who like it's like, yeah,
- 40:51Speaker 1: let's go get some Arbies. Like A love Arbies. There
- 40:54Speaker 1: even order like just roast beef sandwich, just sandwich. And
- 40:57Speaker 1: there's an Arby's near me in l A. It's right by,
- 41:00Speaker 1: um it's right by the Netflix office. I've no, I've
- 41:03Speaker 1: never been since I've lived there, but um I every
- 41:05Speaker 1: time I pass it, I do kind of think what
- 41:09Speaker 1: if not? No? Not I I do, like I will
- 41:13Speaker 1: admit like I like fast food from time to time.
- 41:15Speaker 1: Of course, you know I'll hit it. You'll hit a
- 41:18Speaker 1: rock bottom sometime and you'll be like it's time to
- 41:19Speaker 1: go to Rby. Like you'll know I'm surprised it hasn't happened.
- 41:26Speaker 1: There was a Saturday morning recently where I woke up
- 41:28Speaker 1: and like, I had a fridge full of food. I
- 41:30Speaker 1: could have like cooked breakfast, but I thought, you know what,
- 41:33Speaker 1: I really want McDonald's breakfast, and I ordered it delivery.
- 41:36Speaker 1: I did. I couldn't even get in my car and drive,
- 41:40Speaker 1: like you know, less than two minutes to go to McDonald's.
- 41:44Speaker 1: I had to order it delivery. And you better believe
- 41:47Speaker 1: that the second it was dropped off, I like snatched
- 41:50Speaker 1: it because I didn't want anyone, any of my neighbors
- 41:52Speaker 1: to see the delivery bag. They should do like advocate
- 41:58Speaker 1: magazines to where it came in, because like a secret container. Yeah,
- 42:03Speaker 1: but little discretionary like black like film that's over it
- 42:06Speaker 1: as if it's a porn. Did you have a favorite
- 42:09Speaker 1: fast food place still to this day, I mean I
- 42:15Speaker 1: haven't again, I'm vegan, SR. I don't how long have
- 42:18Speaker 1: you been vegan? Maybe like eight years? I know, um
- 42:22Speaker 1: Popeyees is definitely my favorite fast food franchise currently because
- 42:26Speaker 1: we didn't have about when you were a kid, and
- 42:27Speaker 1: when I was a kid, it was McDonald's breakfast Breakfast
- 42:30Speaker 1: breakfast breakfast, and we would only my mom would get
- 42:32Speaker 1: it for us when we would go on vacation. Okay,
- 42:35Speaker 1: I was just about to say, like she didn't let
- 42:37Speaker 1: you have soda, but yeah, we would get breakfast when
- 42:40Speaker 1: we were on vacation. Also, we had a babysitter, Michelle,
- 42:42Speaker 1: who was this Russian woman or no, sorry, she was Polish,
- 42:46Speaker 1: this Polish woman who we anceled. But I know, right,
- 42:51Speaker 1: we pushed her to the point of like mental break
- 42:53Speaker 1: but she would take Um, she would take us to
- 42:55Speaker 1: McDonald's as well. Wait, what was your mom's like if
- 42:59Speaker 1: if she wasn't drinking soda, what was her like? Little vice? Um,
- 43:06Speaker 1: we would have iced tea or mix iced tea with lemonade,
- 43:10Speaker 1: which I still Arnold Palmer and Arnold Palmer right, yeah
- 43:13Speaker 1: that has a name, um juices, I think. But there
- 43:17Speaker 1: was nothing where you were like, Mom, why are you
- 43:20Speaker 1: allowed to have this? And we're not? No, Um, I
- 43:23Speaker 1: don't think so. I'm trying to think my we we
- 43:25Speaker 1: didn't eats. You know what's funny is like, even though
- 43:27Speaker 1: we didn't drink soda as a family, we didn't necessarily
- 43:31Speaker 1: eat like health food, which I'm grateful for, Like my
- 43:34Speaker 1: mom wasn't like you know, water and you know tea
- 43:38Speaker 1: only and like we're going to eat like you know,
- 43:39Speaker 1: healthy food. But she was and she grew up like
- 43:44Speaker 1: you know, under the poverty poverty line in like rural
- 43:48Speaker 1: New Mexico, and so like she grew up I think
- 43:51Speaker 1: with all these foods and knew why they were bad
- 43:53Speaker 1: or whatever. So but I don't know. Yeah, I didn't
- 43:56Speaker 1: grow up Rose. What is your soda order? Then? Like
- 44:00Speaker 1: to coke? I don't love. I love. I love coke,
- 44:04Speaker 1: not like the like Mexican coke with real sugar I love.
- 44:08Speaker 1: I will sometimes get a Mexican coke with real sugar,
- 44:11Speaker 1: like if it's around um or if it's at a
- 44:14Speaker 1: restaurant that has that, I'll order it. Um. I mean,
- 44:17Speaker 1: I don't drink a lot of soda. But if I'm
- 44:20Speaker 1: going to the movies, I have to get a coke. Um.
- 44:23Speaker 1: If I if I am getting fast food, like I
- 44:25Speaker 1: want to coke, or if I'm getting taco bell, you know,
- 44:27Speaker 1: I want Mountain jew Baha blast, Baha baha blast. Remember
- 44:33Speaker 1: code red just to remember cod um. Do you remember
- 44:37Speaker 1: clear PEPSI? I don't remember this clear well, it exists.
- 44:42Speaker 1: I remember like people talking about it and you know
- 44:45Speaker 1: it just skipped. Remember it came to I loved you who.
- 44:50Speaker 1: I drank so much? You know you did not? I
- 44:53Speaker 1: did you who? And um ah, what the funk were?
- 44:57Speaker 1: They called them? The thing dunk a ruse? You you
- 45:03Speaker 1: who dunk a ruse? And a gobble stick? Does anyone
- 45:06Speaker 1: know about is that meat? Yes? It was like a
- 45:12Speaker 1: cheese stick, but it was turkey, no and in it
- 45:19Speaker 1: but wet cold and wet cold and wet not cold. Yeah.
- 45:23Speaker 1: I like the wet element. It was a cold turkey
- 45:26Speaker 1: stick and I loved them so much. I love wet jerky.
- 45:30Speaker 1: I love a wet meat stick. I don't want a cold.
- 45:35Speaker 1: Also around that time was when salad shakers were a
- 45:38Speaker 1: thing at McDonald's. Oh my god, Wow, I love talking
- 45:44Speaker 1: about extinct foods. Code readers really wanted. Was there ever cold?
- 45:48Speaker 1: I think like sometimes things passed over my town because
- 45:52Speaker 1: it was like, we'll try this in the cities. If
- 45:54Speaker 1: it does well, we'll keep going. And it never trickled down.
- 45:57Speaker 1: So did you grow up with you who are no? No?
- 45:59Speaker 1: I think that's either I don't think you. I don't know,
- 46:04Speaker 1: is it? Why didn't you just drink chocolate milk, isn't it.
- 46:06Speaker 1: I did also drink chocolate milk, but you who was
- 46:09Speaker 1: just easier because it was like you just grab among
- 46:13Speaker 1: the among the actual Okay, I don't know like how
- 46:16Speaker 1: much cocaine people were doing. They invented kids snacks. They
- 46:19Speaker 1: were probably drinking original formula coke. But like Gusher's don
- 46:23Speaker 1: carus go gurt. Do you remember when go Gurt emerged
- 46:27Speaker 1: on the scenes and we're like, yeah, I want to
- 46:28Speaker 1: drink this great frozen tube. So good, so frozen. Most
- 46:35Speaker 1: things are better frozen. There's a thing now where people
- 46:38Speaker 1: put grapes in the freezer and I just like, does
- 46:41Speaker 1: it how do you eat that? Does it make them
- 46:43Speaker 1: really hard? Yeah? It makes them really hard. I don't
- 46:45Speaker 1: like putting frozen things on my teeth. I like, um,
- 46:49Speaker 1: I get the little um the milk chocolate peanut butter
- 46:51Speaker 1: cups at Trader Joe's, the little mini ones, and I
- 46:55Speaker 1: put those in the freezer. Okay, that's fair. Were you
- 46:57Speaker 1: a lunchables kid. I was a huge chlunchables kid, especially
- 47:01Speaker 1: lunchables pizza pizza, and I used to try to spin
- 47:05Speaker 1: it on my finger. I would what I would do
- 47:07Speaker 1: is I would um with the pizza. I would eat
- 47:10Speaker 1: one of the crust's plane so that I had more
- 47:14Speaker 1: pepperoni for the other two. I love. I love those
- 47:18Speaker 1: kind of little like hack hacks and like and like
- 47:22Speaker 1: rituals that you do with those kinds of food you
- 47:24Speaker 1: were cooking. I was, yeah, I shot like. I was like,
- 47:28Speaker 1: I was like, you know what, I want more pepperoni
- 47:31Speaker 1: on this pizza. And I'm gonna everyone's gonna look at
- 47:33Speaker 1: over at my pizza and they're gonna be like, wow,
- 47:36Speaker 1: you have so much more on yours. And I'll be
- 47:38Speaker 1: like yeah, And this does make me think, Okay, So
- 47:43Speaker 1: you know, kids when they're in school, like and they're like,
- 47:49Speaker 1: do really disgusting things with food. Yeah, And when I
- 47:53Speaker 1: was in elementary school, when I was in first grade, God,
- 47:55Speaker 1: I haven't thought about this in a long time. I
- 47:57Speaker 1: used to puke like once a week lunch because the
- 48:03Speaker 1: people in the cafeteria would do such gross things with
- 48:07Speaker 1: their food. And I guess I just had like a
- 48:09Speaker 1: really sensitive stomach and I was always yeah, yeah, I
- 48:15Speaker 1: was like the puke girl. I love the puke girl. Actually,
- 48:20Speaker 1: I remember my best friend in grade school would dip
- 48:23Speaker 1: her chocolate chip cookies and ranch. That was like everyone discussed.
- 48:29Speaker 1: It was sort of show. It was sort of a show,
- 48:32Speaker 1: but it was also like everyone knows Maria loves ranch.
- 48:36Speaker 1: How much does she love it? And she's like, I
- 48:37Speaker 1: love it so much, I'll get my chocolate chip cookies
- 48:40Speaker 1: in it. And we'd be like, whoa, Okay, you win.
- 48:44Speaker 1: You love ranch the most. One of my bullies and
- 48:47Speaker 1: boy scouts used to eat barbecue sauce out of packets
- 48:51Speaker 1: just straight up. Well I did. Used to um with
- 48:54Speaker 1: the lunch bles pizza. If I had a little Marin
- 48:56Speaker 1: aerosoft sauce left in the squeeze tube, I would just
- 48:58Speaker 1: sucking or not shooting marinera with them. Those like little
- 49:07Speaker 1: packs of crackers that have the cheese or the peanut butter,
- 49:10Speaker 1: and yeah, I used to scrape the cheese or the
- 49:12Speaker 1: peanut butter off, take a pocket of mustard, make a
- 49:15Speaker 1: little mustard sandwich with crackers, and then eat it. That
- 49:19Speaker 1: sounds good. Wait, why didn't you just get like ritz
- 49:21Speaker 1: crackers and do that like no, no, no, no, remnant? Yeah,
- 49:26Speaker 1: because I think I think, yeah, but as I think,
- 49:29Speaker 1: I ate the peanut butter and then made the sandwiches
- 49:31Speaker 1: and also the rich cheese cracker things, which are again
- 49:34Speaker 1: a very specific nostalgic food. Those had the essential chemically
- 49:38Speaker 1: taste of all the snacks at the time. You know
- 49:40Speaker 1: that that kind of synthetic layer of on everything, which
- 49:44Speaker 1: I think would be essential to your mustard. Yeah. I
- 49:46Speaker 1: also am loved getting bugles and putting them on my fingers. Yeah,
- 49:56Speaker 1: so it looks like it looks like ales. Yeah, it's
- 50:01Speaker 1: honestly every which which undertone, which does every comedian ever
- 50:06Speaker 1: existed to have ever existed? That was the first. Well.
- 50:08Speaker 1: I also used to do it with um black olives
- 50:11Speaker 1: when we went to when we went to my grandparents
- 50:13Speaker 1: who lived at a country club. Their their country club
- 50:15Speaker 1: has a buffet, and it's like every day is like
- 50:18Speaker 1: a bar mitzvah um, and there was always a huge
- 50:20Speaker 1: But I was really I was obsessed with pickles when
- 50:23Speaker 1: I was a kid, and like still am. Like the
- 50:25Speaker 1: other day, I was at our at the hotel, I'm
- 50:27Speaker 1: staying out, and I walked over to the decal market
- 50:31Speaker 1: that's like in the building where UM Target is and
- 50:34Speaker 1: I went to cats As Delhi and just got a
- 50:36Speaker 1: bag of pickles to bring back to my hotel room
- 50:38Speaker 1: and like snack on. Um. No. But when I was
- 50:41Speaker 1: a kid, I was obsessed with olives and I would
- 50:42Speaker 1: put them on my fingers and just like beat them
- 50:44Speaker 1: up one day one like, yeah, okay, here's the theory
- 51:03Speaker 1: to be positive cold. Do you think that, um, the
- 51:06Speaker 1: way that we interacted with like soda um was like
- 51:10Speaker 1: a training ground for the way maybe some of us
- 51:13Speaker 1: experimented with more illicit substances as adults. I definitely loved
- 51:17Speaker 1: pretending like that was my cocktail at the end of
- 51:19Speaker 1: the day, you know, like coming home, Like as soon
- 51:22Speaker 1: as I get in the door, I'm having a lemon lime. Um,
- 51:27Speaker 1: I'm I'm putting my feet up to the same thing.
- 51:33Speaker 1: Make me a drink I would pour. I would pour
- 51:35Speaker 1: an Arizona iced tea into like a tumbler like it
- 51:38Speaker 1: was a Scotch. And then I would break out a
- 51:41Speaker 1: pretzel a pretzel stick like it was a cigarette. Like
- 51:44Speaker 1: would you sit there, like at the office, would you
- 51:48Speaker 1: recline into a chair? And yeah, it was very It
- 51:52Speaker 1: was very Tennessee. William Yeah, um, okay, I see that
- 51:56Speaker 1: for you. Um, they remember those candy cigarettes, the Spider Man. Why, honestly,
- 52:00Speaker 1: just think that the pretzel stick was more satisfying. I agree,
- 52:03Speaker 1: But candy cigarettes were banned because I think it was
- 52:06Speaker 1: discovered that they were literally trying to like turn kids
- 52:08Speaker 1: on the side. I'm sure right, um. And also wasn't
- 52:12Speaker 1: a camel wasn't the camel from Camel cigarettes also banned
- 52:16Speaker 1: because oh they like Joe Cool, not his name being
- 52:21Speaker 1: Joke Cool. That's like two on the note. I wonder
- 52:25Speaker 1: to these days. He's out of work, he's touring with Louie.
- 52:31Speaker 1: He's actually working with JK Rolling on her next project.
- 52:36Speaker 1: He's in turf Where was Joe Cool on January set? Yeah?
- 52:44Speaker 1: J K Rowling is writing the stage adaptation of his life. Absolutely,
- 52:48Speaker 1: that's Joke Cools going to do. I Um. I wish
- 52:55Speaker 1: that we were more UM soda forward, Like I wish
- 53:00Speaker 1: that we kept um like there were soda pairings, you know,
- 53:06Speaker 1: like a yeah, a soda flight. I do think that
- 53:12Speaker 1: exists because you can well, like at Universal or Disney,
- 53:16Speaker 1: there's um a places that are not that you can um.
- 53:26Speaker 1: There's there's definitely a place of Universal where it's like
- 53:28Speaker 1: sodas from around the world. It's like coke in every
- 53:33Speaker 1: different country and continent around the world, and you can
- 53:35Speaker 1: try all these different Yeah, you know that that existed.
- 53:40Speaker 1: Me and my friends have this multimillion dollar idea. So
- 53:42Speaker 1: those listening at home please do not steal this idea
- 53:44Speaker 1: of having a water world wherein we have all the
- 53:47Speaker 1: waters of the world, and New York tap water obviously
- 53:50Speaker 1: would be probably the most popular water that we would sell.
- 53:53Speaker 1: Could also be like, you know, this is tap water
- 53:55Speaker 1: from I don't know, Minnesota, or like tapiter and water,
- 54:00Speaker 1: or you know what I mean. Do you buy soda
- 54:02Speaker 1: to have at home? I buy Lacroix, But then every
- 54:05Speaker 1: like if I was being honest with myself and who
- 54:08Speaker 1: I am, I would I would be drinking regular soda.
- 54:12Speaker 1: What's your favorite Lacroix flavor? Key Lime? Mine too. I
- 54:19Speaker 1: think that's my favorite too. Yeah, I love um mixing
- 54:23Speaker 1: it with with like other juices and things too, just
- 54:27Speaker 1: like lemonade, but instead of water using key lime Lacroix.
- 54:33Speaker 1: You know what else as good as um, they're lemon
- 54:36Speaker 1: cello Lacroix. That one's pretty good. I don't I don't
- 54:39Speaker 1: love that. I like key lime. Yeah, lemon cello key
- 54:42Speaker 1: lime is the fuck lemon cello lemon Let's let's talk,
- 54:47Speaker 1: can we talk about the abuse. So for some reason,
- 54:50Speaker 1: that line of Mariah Carey's and Precious the Cadence, the
- 54:53Speaker 1: way she said it sticks in my head and it
- 54:55Speaker 1: was really inappropriate. It's not like funny, but can we
- 55:01Speaker 1: talk about the abuse to Monique? But coconut coconut? It
- 55:06Speaker 1: tastes like toothpaste. Yeah, I don't love it. I sort
- 55:09Speaker 1: of get off on how gross it is. Yeah, I
- 55:12Speaker 1: like that. It's a little step punishment. You're punishing yourself,
- 55:17Speaker 1: like like, well, I like it in a d S
- 55:19Speaker 1: relationship with you, that's basically the same thing as the
- 55:22Speaker 1: ranch dressing on the cookies. Yeah, I like it. Yeah,
- 55:27Speaker 1: I'm gonna borrow. I'm gonna be a barf girl. If
- 55:31Speaker 1: you had to have a soda, if you had to
- 55:34Speaker 1: have it for lunch today at lunch, what would you pick?
- 55:37Speaker 1: And saltzer doesn't count, seltzer doesn't count. Um, we forgot
- 55:42Speaker 1: about orange soda. I mean that's I love loves orange soda.
- 55:48Speaker 1: I do, I do, I do I honestly, I'm not sure.
- 55:53Speaker 1: I think I would pick a diet coke. Yeah, coke,
- 55:56Speaker 1: diet coke, I think I would want, Like I agree
- 56:00Speaker 1: with Rose, It's like the circumstances in which I drink
- 56:02Speaker 1: that are getting fast food in it makes aesthetic sense.
- 56:05Speaker 1: I just realized what it is about diet coke that
- 56:07Speaker 1: I love so much. It's very teacher's lounge, so teacher's lounge,
- 56:14Speaker 1: and there's something about drinking it that makes me feel like, well,
- 56:18Speaker 1: now I'm allowed in the teacher's lounge. I'm just like
- 56:20Speaker 1: Miss Vanada in seventh grade? Would you do kind of
- 56:23Speaker 1: have teacher's lounge? And that's why I could cry because
- 56:27Speaker 1: I feel so seen right now, like the ethos of
- 56:30Speaker 1: almost every character you've ever yeah, yeah, I mean truly,
- 56:34Speaker 1: every character I've ever done is just like me trying
- 56:37Speaker 1: to get into the teachers Well. There was no space
- 56:41Speaker 1: more coveted, oh none, And I felt like I deserved
- 56:44Speaker 1: to be in there. It was like, if anyone in
- 56:47Speaker 1: this school deserves to be in that room, it's me.
- 56:50Speaker 1: It was the room of requirement, basically. You and I
- 56:52Speaker 1: remember walking back every time the door was like just close,
- 56:55Speaker 1: and You're like, did you rever get to go in?
- 56:58Speaker 1: I feel like I so. I was in student government
- 57:03Speaker 1: for some reason. I had to do morning announcements. Did
- 57:10Speaker 1: I live the show? The original? He's the original podcast,
- 57:17Speaker 1: and I think under those circumstances, I once went inside
- 57:20Speaker 1: the teacher's lins, but I remember being gooped. I remember
- 57:22Speaker 1: being like what you were, and it was like being here.
- 57:25Speaker 1: I shouldn't be in here. Yeah, I shouldn't be here.
- 57:28Speaker 1: I shouldn't be up here. Yeah that's should I shouldn't
- 57:33Speaker 1: be up here. Honestly, neither of us know what actually
- 57:36Speaker 1: sounds like. I dare you? Yeah, that's good. How dare you?
- 57:41Speaker 1: You stole my future? Anytime we do an impression, it
- 57:45Speaker 1: gets like either it's either Kate or dumbled. Greta Thunberg
- 57:49Speaker 1: has never has never drank a soda in her Oh
- 57:53Speaker 1: my god, you think, yeah, it's like in an aluminum can,
- 57:58Speaker 1: and you're right. She has never verset. She's never had
- 58:01Speaker 1: anything but water. Do you ever go to get a
- 58:03Speaker 1: soda at the bodega like I can at the bodega
- 58:05Speaker 1: and they give you a straw? Yes? I love that
- 58:07Speaker 1: because I love drinking can. I don't actually know if
- 58:12Speaker 1: there was like a city ordinance or something, but they
- 58:15Speaker 1: started giving straws because they were finding like rat feces
- 58:20Speaker 1: on I do remember the rat so they were like,
- 58:23Speaker 1: we need to avoid that. So everyone gets a stronestly.
- 58:26Speaker 1: I think it's part of the flavor. Yeah, a little spice.
- 58:30Speaker 1: I mean it's and it's a plastic straw. So it's
- 58:32Speaker 1: kind of like, you know, bad for the environment. You know.
- 58:35Speaker 1: How do you go into the teacher's lounge. I have
- 58:37Speaker 1: never been in the teacher's lounge. I didn't want to.
- 58:39Speaker 1: I was a bad girl. Okay, right, that's that to me.
- 58:43Speaker 1: That's like, fuck you, I'm gonna go in there, yeah
- 58:45Speaker 1: and take a dump. Did you go to the principal's
- 58:49Speaker 1: office where you have? I have gone not to the
- 58:52Speaker 1: principal's office, but the guidance counselor's office. Many times they
- 58:56Speaker 1: were like, we need the big guns. Yeah. I actually
- 58:58Speaker 1: was reminded of this recently. One time I was called
- 59:01Speaker 1: down to the office. I had no idea why, and
- 59:03Speaker 1: I was like, maybe it's like first because I did
- 59:05Speaker 1: a lot of theater in high school, like some theater thing.
- 59:07Speaker 1: And I turned up and both my parents were sitting there.
- 59:10Speaker 1: And that was a gag in and of itself because
- 59:12Speaker 1: my parents were divorced and it was very contentious divorce.
- 59:16Speaker 1: So to have them both in the same place, I
- 59:18Speaker 1: was my wig was gone, and it was like season finale,
- 59:25Speaker 1: And it was because I had forged my mom's signature
- 59:29Speaker 1: on some document. It was like it was like because
- 59:32Speaker 1: I was doing bound in some class and it was
- 59:34Speaker 1: a note that they sent home or or honestly might
- 59:37Speaker 1: have been like a permission slip or something. And truly
- 59:41Speaker 1: it was because my mom was like, I don't have
- 59:43Speaker 1: time to sign that, just like forge my signature, because
- 59:46Speaker 1: in high school I had one of her credit cards
- 59:47Speaker 1: and I just used to like forge her signature all
- 59:49Speaker 1: the time and she was like, just do it. Um,
- 59:52Speaker 1: And I don't know why I got into so much
- 59:54Speaker 1: trouble about it. Also, it probably was like there was
- 59:56Speaker 1: something else going on to but um, yeah, that was that.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: It was kind of the only time that I ever
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: really got reprimanded. I've only been sent to the principle's
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: office once for saying ass but I didn't even say
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: it in context. I was repeating, are you crying? Were
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: you Like I was mortified. I hated being in trouble
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: like that. Well, I was a good Christian girl, and
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: so like there was really no realm of possibility where
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: I would ever be sent to the principal's office. But
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: my high school high school, my middle school bully Renee Rosky. Yes,
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: I said her full name. We're going to find you.
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: I actually like I saw her at a hair salon
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: like in sometime in adulthood, and she was very nice
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: to me. Um but like I um, she she would
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: swear all the time and we were arguing about swear
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: words and I remember saying she said asked or whatever,
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: and I was like, ass like, isn't even a bad word.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: It means donkey or something like that. And then the woman,
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: you know, the lunch lady, like you know, monitoring the
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: there's always those lunch ladies, like literally the cops of
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: the school a cab including she was like, what includes
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: ladies and I went to them. I was like I
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: had a few instances like that. We're then now looking back,
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: I was like, oh, she hated fats that that had
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: nothing to do with like she was just like disgusted.
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: That was like, why are you sitting with the girls?
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: Get away from them? And I was what exclusively? So
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: I was like, oh, no, I did something wrong. And
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: then I like, I'll like have a dream about it
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: and I'll be like, wait, that wasn't I wasn't bad.
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: It was just homophobia, like she was kind of right,
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: she looks kind of right. I shouldn't have been with
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: those girls were bad. I mean the girls that I
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: spent my lunches with were you know, um girls that
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: I thought were like my best friends. And only retrospectively,
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, they didn't know them at all, and
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: they didn't invite me to any of their birthday maybe
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: actively excluded me, but they were like, oh, it's like
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: girls all only you know. That was like, oh, sorry,
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: it's girls only. Little did they know? Little did they
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: know secrets I had. I had a group of of
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: girl friends in middle school. We were like one big
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: click and then at the beginning of the next year
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: of school, half of the group decided that they wanted
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: the like kind of less cool, we're like the weirder
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: girls like out of the group. And the way that
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: they told us was that they went around in a
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: circle and they each said one word of like their
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: breakup text, which was like we don't want to hang
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: out with you and me more wow wow, And it's
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: a stage. And I feel like, I like, did they
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: dump you that way? Or I was dumped? No? Isn't
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: not surprising that I wasn't one of the part that,
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: um but yes and no, and one of them also
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: slapped me really hard one All right, that's not because
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: you know I was the only like you know boy
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: in the group, and I think they thought they could
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: get away with it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I really wanted
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: to be in with the smart girls. They were not No,
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: they weren't the nerds. They weren't like gross, but they
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: had like you know, like they had their healthy lunches
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: like packed, and like everything was organized and like, um,
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: all their school supplies were like matching, you know, like
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: I wanted THEO. I wanted to be friends with those girls,
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: not the text girk covers. Yes they had yeah yeah
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: yeah and binders, the ones that like cried when they
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: got bees. I loved those girls. I wanted to be them.
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: But then they were like as soon as middle school
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: happened and it was like puberty, they were like you
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: what are you doing here? And I was like the
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: whole time? Please, They were like no. Now they're all
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: married to like marines. That is the apply. Yeah, their
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: Facebook photos are them holding a gun? Where where were they? Yeah? Exactly?
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: So called did you ever get inside the teacher's lounge.
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: I did. I broken. Yeah, it was on a weekend
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: and me and my friends broke into the school and
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: then we got into the teacher's lounge and it was like,
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: don't meet your heroes. It was so disappointing. It was
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: like the ugliest, oldest like couches and like it was
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: just sad. It was like it was not what I
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: the lighting. It was like so bright fluorescent lighting. I
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: imagine teacher's lounge like a warm, welcoming yeah yeah, yes,
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: softly like yeah, like a womb a snack bar like
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: yeah yeah yeah, like like food you couldn't you know,
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: like menus Like I thought it would be more like
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: a spa waiting area and it was. It was basically
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: like here some leftover furniture from the health room and
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: a lot of empty tupperware and a lot of empty tupperware,
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: bad biting and diet coke and diet coke. You can
