Ratko Mladic Dies After Genocide Conviction | Dayton News
Ratko Mladic, the notorious “Butcher of Bosnia” convicted for orchestrating Europe’s deadliest massacre since WWII — the 1995 Srebrenica genocide that killed 8,000 Muslim men and boys — has died at 83 while serving a life sentence. Once evading capture for 16 years, he was finally apprehended in 2011 and sentenced in 2017 for genocide and war crimes. His final legal bid for early release, citing health, was denied just last week. His death closes a chapter on one of the most brutal figures of the Balkan wars.
