Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with I Heart Radio. So the Ravens are kind of
- 0:19Speaker 1: sort of looking like a contender. Josh Allen, how's that
- 0:23Speaker 1: elbow doing? There's a lot to talk about today. And
- 0:25Speaker 1: oh yeah, Steve White, there's the press or we had
- 0:30Speaker 1: last night in Indianapolis. How are you by the lay?
- 0:33Speaker 1: I'm doing well? Yeah, that that one about as well
- 0:36Speaker 1: as I think a lot of us expected it to,
- 0:38Speaker 1: as well as Steve fresh off the power ranking set,
- 0:41Speaker 1: we have new power rankings for you as well. All
- 0:44Speaker 1: coming up on this show, NFL Now, NFL Network from
- 0:46Speaker 1: our news room in Los Angeles. My name is ANDREWS. Ceciliano.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Let's get to the Josh Allen injury first. This is
- 0:54Speaker 1: Bryce Huff coming off the edge, final possession, fourth quarter.
- 0:58Speaker 1: You see Alan grab at his elbow. He admitted afterwards
- 1:02Speaker 1: it was a bit sore. Big game here for the Vikings,
- 1:05Speaker 1: or rather for the Bills. They get the Vikings coming
- 1:08Speaker 1: up at one o'clock Eastern time in Buffalo. We have
- 1:11Speaker 1: reported Hi, guys, Tom Pellicero, Mike Garret follow that um
- 1:15Speaker 1: the elbow might might limit Allen in practice this week.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Garret fuller. What do we know? Uh, we know that
- 1:23Speaker 1: my pin is crooked? Where is it? Let's get it straight.
- 1:28Speaker 1: There you go, that's half the battle. Josh Allen is
- 1:32Speaker 1: uh yeah, likely to be limited. I mean, let's listen,
- 1:34Speaker 1: there's multiple doctors giving multiple opinions on this one. Sean
- 1:38Speaker 1: McDermott sort of indicated at this press conference on Monday
- 1:40Speaker 1: that we would know a little bit more today as
- 1:43Speaker 1: we got through the day, as they continue to gather
- 1:45Speaker 1: those medical opinions on Josh Allen. Look, you start getting
- 1:48Speaker 1: into certain ligaments, you talk u c L. Everybody here's
- 1:52Speaker 1: u c L when it comes to baseball. It doesn't
- 1:54Speaker 1: mean that Josh Allen's getting Tommy John surgery. That's not
- 1:58Speaker 1: usually a thing for NFL quarterback. So relax on that one.
- 2:01Speaker 1: It is an elbow sprain. How severe is the sprain?
- 2:04Speaker 1: Kenny plays through it. We saw the next past after
- 2:07Speaker 1: he got hit, kind of dove down a little bit,
- 2:09Speaker 1: but then he threw that last one down the field.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Look pretty good right there. So uh yeah, there's hope
- 2:13Speaker 1: in Buffalo that Josh Allen will be able to practice
- 2:16Speaker 1: and play his way through this injury. Tom But we
- 2:19Speaker 1: wait for the final diagnosis. That's right, Mike, and the
- 2:23Speaker 1: diagnosis is key here because, as you mentioned, this is
- 2:26Speaker 1: not strictly a because you have an elbow injury, you're
- 2:28Speaker 1: being shut down, You're ultimately going to have surgery. We've
- 2:31Speaker 1: seen other quarterbacks, including Matthew Stafford, played through an elbow injury.
- 2:34Speaker 1: There's different types of treatments, there's different things that you
- 2:37Speaker 1: can do to manage it, but it all depends on
- 2:38Speaker 1: exactly what Josh Allen is dealing with here, which is
- 2:41Speaker 1: why he gets those additional opinions. So Ian Rappaport our
- 2:44Speaker 1: colleague mentioned it for the first time yesterday that like
- 2:47Speaker 1: they limited in practice this week, but certainly early optimism
- 2:50Speaker 1: about Josh allen status for this week against the Vikings
- 2:53Speaker 1: is also the Bill's most important player, to say the least.
- 2:56Speaker 1: That will absolutely exercise caution here. So this will be
- 2:59Speaker 1: one one to monitor all the way up till the weekend.
- 3:01Speaker 1: In what is quite arguably the best game of the
- 3:04Speaker 1: week as well, the Bills and the Vikings Minnesota with
- 3:07Speaker 1: only one loss. If Josh Allen can't go, and we're
- 3:09Speaker 1: not saying that's the case, case, Keenum would be the
- 3:12Speaker 1: next man up against his former team, just saying something
- 3:17Speaker 1: to keep an eye on. All right, guys, stay right there.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Let's get to the Colts press conference from last night.
- 3:20Speaker 1: This went down during the first quarter of the Ravens
- 3:23Speaker 1: win over the Saints in New Orleans. Will show you
- 3:25Speaker 1: that highlight a little bit later. Jeff Saturday, congratulations, goes
- 3:28Speaker 1: from TV analysts to head coach with not a lot
- 3:31Speaker 1: of stops in between. He's been a high school coach.
- 3:33Speaker 1: That's it. The presser was an old Teimer, you know,
- 3:40Speaker 1: and Chris and I and talking. We saw things collapse,
- 3:46Speaker 1: and I've seen things, you know, go from bad to worse,
- 3:50Speaker 1: and and and I thought it was time and it
- 3:52Speaker 1: was necessary to make the change. I am very excited
- 3:57Speaker 1: to have as Chris is, to have Jeff Um here
- 4:02Speaker 1: and and Um next to me is the interim head coach.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Um just uh couldn't be more thrilled about having him here.
- 4:11Speaker 1: And yes, he is fully experienced enough, Yes he is
- 4:16Speaker 1: fully capable. He's extremely smart, he's extremely competitive, he understands
- 4:23Speaker 1: the game. If you think I was surprised, I'm gonna
- 4:25Speaker 1: get asked I haven't been a coach, you know. I
- 4:27Speaker 1: wouldn't uh that that that'd be would be silly, right,
- 4:30Speaker 1: So we knew. I knew going in what the expectation
- 4:32Speaker 1: was going to be, the questions that we're gonna be asked,
- 4:34Speaker 1: and uh, I feel fully capable, excited about the opportunity
- 4:38Speaker 1: eight games too. You know, Listen, here's a great part
- 4:41Speaker 1: about my career. I came in nobody expecting anything. I'm here,
- 4:44Speaker 1: nobody expects anything. If it goes well, hopefully it'll go
- 4:47Speaker 1: extremely well. But I have no uh preconceived notion that
- 4:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna be some spectacular or anything. I know, I
- 4:54Speaker 1: gotta work hard and uh, I mean, you know, I'm
- 4:57Speaker 1: audition and not only for this one, but for for
- 4:59Speaker 1: thirty one others, just like everybody else in this game.
- 5:01Speaker 1: And and make no mistake, man, the job is win.
- 5:05Speaker 1: I'm glad he doesn't have any NFL experience. I'm glad
- 5:08Speaker 1: he hasn't learned the fear that's in this league. That's
- 5:11Speaker 1: because it's tough for our coaches. They're afraid, they go
- 5:14Speaker 1: to analytics and it gets difficult. I mean, he doesn't
- 5:18Speaker 1: have all that. He doesn't have that that fear, and
- 5:20Speaker 1: there was no other candidate. We were fortunate that he
- 5:23Speaker 1: was available. Um and he has tons of experience, he
- 5:27Speaker 1: knows this game inside and out. Um, with relationships with
- 5:31Speaker 1: coaches and players. No, there was it wasn't offered to
- 5:34Speaker 1: anyone else. And you know, I don't know, I don't
- 5:39Speaker 1: know Chris and I what we would have done, if anything,
- 5:43Speaker 1: if he wasn't available and willing. Um. So that Um,
- 5:48Speaker 1: that's kind of how it came together. J Mersey says
- 5:50Speaker 1: he was the only man for the job. London Fletcher,
- 5:53Speaker 1: one of our colleagues here in the past, just tweeted this,
- 5:56Speaker 1: here's my resume to all NFL teams looking for a
- 5:58Speaker 1: head coach. Sixteen year vet, two and fifty six consecutive games,
- 6:02Speaker 1: never missed a game, All Pro Hall of Fame, non
- 6:05Speaker 1: the Ring of Fame with the Commanders, radio analysts, volunteer
- 6:10Speaker 1: middle school defensive coordinator at Charlotte Latin High School. One
- 6:15Speaker 1: of my favorite phrases I would say Crutches on this
- 6:18Speaker 1: show is there's a lot to unpack. Well, there's a
- 6:20Speaker 1: lot to unpack from that press conference last night, guys,
- 6:23Speaker 1: and I want to start off by saying, at times
- 6:25Speaker 1: I felt uncomfortable for Jeff Saturday because jimber said the
- 6:29Speaker 1: owners being grilled Chris Baller. The GM is being Grilled'll
- 6:31Speaker 1: tell you why, because this guy just got a big
- 6:33Speaker 1: job and no one's even asking him a question. He
- 6:37Speaker 1: you have to wait, wait, wait, He's sitting there watching
- 6:41Speaker 1: these guys get grilled, trying to defend the higher that
- 6:44Speaker 1: said London Fletcher has a heck of a point, Okay.
- 6:48Speaker 1: And there are other coaches on that staff that have
- 6:50Speaker 1: been head coaches John Fox, Gus Bradley, college head coaches,
- 6:55Speaker 1: Scotty Montgomery, CFL head coaches Scott Milanovitch that could have
- 6:58Speaker 1: gotten that job. Let's start with the staff. Tom, who's
- 7:02Speaker 1: calling plays? Do we know yet? Andrew? What I can
- 7:07Speaker 1: tell you is that Jeff Saturday has spent this morning
- 7:11Speaker 1: meeting with members of the offensive coaching staff trying to
- 7:14Speaker 1: formulate a plan. The other coaches have been going through
- 7:17Speaker 1: their normal game planning process, as normal as it can
- 7:19Speaker 1: be when your play caller and your offensive coordinator have
- 7:22Speaker 1: been fired in the past eight days here and just
- 7:24Speaker 1: trying to get ready for a game coming up this
- 7:27Speaker 1: weekend that is still meaningful for a Cold's team that's
- 7:30Speaker 1: very much alive in the postseason picture. I would point
- 7:33Speaker 1: to a few things in watching that press conference last night.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Let's start with the fact that Jim Mercy saying that
- 7:39Speaker 1: Jeff Saturday was the only man for the job is
- 7:42Speaker 1: sort of the reason that the Rooney rule exists. It
- 7:44Speaker 1: just does not apply to interim head coaches. They will
- 7:47Speaker 1: have to run a search after the season. But Ursa
- 7:50Speaker 1: also said this is for eight games, hopefully more. In
- 7:53Speaker 1: other words, he's going into this with a guy who
- 7:56Speaker 1: has never coached above the high school level, and admittedly,
- 7:59Speaker 1: according to Jeff Saturday was shocked that he got the
- 8:02Speaker 1: call in the past twenty four hours, preyed on at
- 8:04Speaker 1: the sided he was being called for a reason to Indianapolis,
- 8:07Speaker 1: Jim Ursay is hoping this person is going to figure
- 8:10Speaker 1: out in the next couple of months how to be
- 8:12Speaker 1: a head coach and then be given that job moving
- 8:16Speaker 1: forward here. Having said that, this is also an indication
- 8:19Speaker 1: of something that people who know Jim Ursay know very well,
- 8:22Speaker 1: which is he is largely a hands off owner. He
- 8:25Speaker 1: does not get involved in the nitty grinny of personnel
- 8:29Speaker 1: and football decisions up until the point that he sees
- 8:32Speaker 1: things going south. And you can certainly point back to
- 8:35Speaker 1: the end of last season with the way that things
- 8:37Speaker 1: played out. Carson Wentz, who was unvaccinated, getting COVID than
- 8:41Speaker 1: playing poorly in the last two games the season, or say,
- 8:43Speaker 1: released that video outside an airplane. He was very obviously,
- 8:46Speaker 1: very unhappy. They move on from Wentz Frank Rereich, who
- 8:49Speaker 1: had advocated for Carson Wentz to come in. He ends
- 8:52Speaker 1: up allowing Frank Rereich to get another quarterback, which ends
- 8:55Speaker 1: up being Matt Ryan. Within the past few weeks, Matt
- 8:58Speaker 1: Ryan bench, their office coordinator, Marcus Brady fired, Frank Reich fired,
- 9:03Speaker 1: and Jeff Saturday higher. All those things have Jim Ursay's
- 9:07Speaker 1: fingerprints all over it. And now we'll see whether the
- 9:10Speaker 1: Arsay plan works for the Colts here for the rest
- 9:12Speaker 1: of two and potentially beyond. Well. I want to start
- 9:15Speaker 1: out by saying this. I know Jeff Saturday personally, I
- 9:18Speaker 1: love the dude. So what I'm about to say is
- 9:20Speaker 1: nothing for Jeff Saturday because it's it is this process here.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Uh my phone blew up, of course, from a lot
- 9:27Speaker 1: of black head coaches, former players, agents things like this
- 9:32Speaker 1: by saying what a black coaches always here, They don't
- 9:36Speaker 1: have enough credentials, they haven't called plays, they haven't done
- 9:39Speaker 1: this when they get denied opportunities. So this one right
- 9:43Speaker 1: here was as triggering as it gets in terms of
- 9:45Speaker 1: the process as them going outside and hiring Jeff Saturday
- 9:49Speaker 1: after getting rid of a black offensive coordinator, Marcus Brady,
- 9:52Speaker 1: who didn't call plays but had the opportunity. He's the
- 9:55Speaker 1: first one who escape goated. Right. Then you get rid
- 9:57Speaker 1: of Frank Wright because we knew who's on the green
- 9:58Speaker 1: mile anyway. But then they make a move like this
- 10:00Speaker 1: when you have people on staff, like some of the
- 10:03Speaker 1: calls I got from what about the guys on staff?
- 10:06Speaker 1: Can you imagine being a player in that locker room
- 10:09Speaker 1: or a scout in that building, knowing that they're going
- 10:12Speaker 1: with a guy who's got a personal relationship with the
- 10:14Speaker 1: owner but has no credentials, no necessarily a pedigree in
- 10:18Speaker 1: terms of leading guys in the locker room. Now he's
- 10:20Speaker 1: coming in mid season. Can you imagine how when comfortable
- 10:22Speaker 1: it is. So it just came back to the saying,
- 10:24Speaker 1: over and over again, don't ever say it can't get worse,
- 10:27Speaker 1: because it possibly can with this type of situation, and
- 10:30Speaker 1: and listen, listen, go ahead, by go ahead, Well, I
- 10:33Speaker 1: was just gonna say, as reporters were supposed to pass on.
- 10:35Speaker 1: You know what we're gathering. What I'm gathering is a
- 10:38Speaker 1: bunch of words that I would use myself, which is
- 10:41Speaker 1: bush league, brutal fraud. That was impressive. That's a sarcastic text.
- 10:46Speaker 1: That was impressive, lacking enough words in my vocabulary to
- 10:49Speaker 1: effectively some this train wreck up. These are the reactions
- 10:52Speaker 1: around the NFL right now from other folks. I would
- 10:55Speaker 1: just say this, and I'll preface this by saying the
- 10:58Speaker 1: Texans wanted to hire Josh McCown a couple of years ago,
- 11:00Speaker 1: or at least Jack Easter be did. I actually made
- 11:04Speaker 1: the point that, yeah, that that was kind of a
- 11:06Speaker 1: little crazy, but not as crazy as you think. And
- 11:09Speaker 1: boy did I take heat on Twitter for that one.
- 11:11Speaker 1: I still stand by that one, by the way, having
- 11:13Speaker 1: said that me as that guy, this is looney Tunes
- 11:16Speaker 1: right here, because you're asking Jeff Saturday to come in
- 11:19Speaker 1: in the middle of the season, joined a coaching staff
- 11:22Speaker 1: that he doesn't really know, and guys that are gonna
- 11:24Speaker 1: be upset that they were passed over when they have
- 11:28Speaker 1: the resume to get this done. He's got no experienced
- 11:31Speaker 1: offensive play car, he's got no quarterback, like this would
- 11:34Speaker 1: have been different if if it happened when Chuck Pagano
- 11:37Speaker 1: had gotten sick. Let's say, and Bruce Arians had almost
- 11:40Speaker 1: forty years of experience, by the way, that's important, almost
- 11:43Speaker 1: forty years of experience and coaching and been ah heead
- 11:45Speaker 1: coach in college before, and you had Andrew Luckett quarterback.
- 11:48Speaker 1: You don't have that right now. Jeff Saturday is being
- 11:50Speaker 1: asked to come in here and build this thing from
- 11:52Speaker 1: the ground up with stuff that's already laid right now
- 11:55Speaker 1: that you're gonna have to redo for the long haul.
- 11:57Speaker 1: I mean, this is just And I mentioned the the
- 12:00Speaker 1: Arians thing because Ursa tried to compare this to when
- 12:02Speaker 1: he hired Arians, almost four decades of coaching experience. He
- 12:06Speaker 1: was ready. Jef Saturday's just not and was adam and
- 12:10Speaker 1: if not defiant yesterday saying you know why. He was
- 12:13Speaker 1: asked why should this be trusted? Why should your decision
- 12:16Speaker 1: here be trusted? And he said, well, look, I heard
- 12:18Speaker 1: a hall of fame GM, I hired a hall of
- 12:20Speaker 1: fame coach. I drafted a hall of fame quarterback. Suggested
- 12:22Speaker 1: maybe two if if obviously Andrew luck did not retire
- 12:26Speaker 1: early quite young and that I don't get these decisions wrong,
- 12:29Speaker 1: and said that the perception problem is from the media.
- 12:33Speaker 1: He had a broadcast journalism degree, he pointed out, and
- 12:35Speaker 1: so he knows therefore how it works. Okay, just real,
- 12:41Speaker 1: real quick. If you're if you're a potential future head
- 12:43Speaker 1: coaching candidate, how attractive does this situation look to you? Now?
- 12:48Speaker 1: I mean that that's all I have to say. After
- 12:51Speaker 1: seeing what just happened here, would you really want to
- 12:53Speaker 1: cast your name into that lot after the season? Coming
- 12:57Speaker 1: up next, the Seahawks also look good? Can Gino Smith
- 13:00Speaker 1: keep it going on the road in Germany? We say,
- 13:05Speaker 1: Anita say next, Yeah, oh my god. We all liked Okay, boys,
- 13:15Speaker 1: here we go. Let's go to work world. I'll touchdown
- 13:18Speaker 1: Tampa Bay. My Covin's reach us up with one hand
- 13:20Speaker 1: and grabs and you can't knock this kid off his seat.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Ken Walder scores his second touchdowns on Beyond Us. It's
- 13:29Speaker 1: book by the book of There. You're gonna throw again,
- 13:33Speaker 1: got a man at the corner. Toutchdown Sea hard, You're
- 13:37Speaker 1: gonna cheat some w down the middle, totchdown, Da came back,
- 13:41Speaker 1: Capac Dob young Man Tyler Larbert was not going to
- 13:45Speaker 1: let this one get away. That's the dagger, my friend
- 13:48Speaker 1: box Harder Candida out. They go to Germany. Football made
- 13:53Speaker 1: in Germany. Go, let's go to Munich. Am I the
- 13:58Speaker 1: only one that remembers soccer made in Germany back in
- 14:00Speaker 1: the eighties on PBS? Am I aging myself? No? It
- 14:04Speaker 1: was the Bundesliga, know that you like? It was on
- 14:06Speaker 1: every weekend. No, yeah, I didn't watch. You don't remember this.
- 14:09Speaker 1: I didn't watch PBS Andrew, okay, but props to you
- 14:11Speaker 1: from being so collected. Okay, it was soccer, Seahawks, Bucket Ears,
- 14:15Speaker 1: football made in Germany. Here's Brady with Jim Gray last night.
- 14:22Speaker 1: It's a big challenge because you know, to fly across
- 14:26Speaker 1: the ocean like that new time zone to nine thirty
- 14:29Speaker 1: eastern kickoff. They don't have its challenges. The weather's gonna
- 14:32Speaker 1: be a little cool. But we're playing in a very
- 14:34Speaker 1: very cool arena, uh where Baron Munich plays, you know,
- 14:39Speaker 1: kind of the country's top soccer team, and it looks
- 14:42Speaker 1: amazing and pictures and look, I mean the chance to
- 14:44Speaker 1: go across to another country play a sport that I love,
- 14:48Speaker 1: you know, I had heard there's three million ticket request
- 14:51Speaker 1: for sixties seven thousand seats, so the place is gonna
- 14:53Speaker 1: be rocking. And if it's anything like what I see
- 14:57Speaker 1: those German Bundesliga games, I mean, this is gonna be
- 15:01Speaker 1: one of the epic games that we've ever played in
- 15:04Speaker 1: some super excited. It's gonna be pretty pretty cool. Tickets
- 15:07Speaker 1: are allegedly going for like two thousand euros. The city
- 15:12Speaker 1: is buzzing. That's nighttime right now in Munich. Earlier today
- 15:16Speaker 1: Kyle Brandt ran around a Leaderhausen and Hosen and scared
- 15:20Speaker 1: the locals. It was kind of It's kind of funny.
- 15:22Speaker 1: On Good Morning Football, Sarah Walsh is also there. Tom
- 15:28Speaker 1: Brady has been flawless in international games, and on Sunday
- 15:32Speaker 1: here in Munich he looks to go four and oh overseas. Now,
- 15:36Speaker 1: it hasn't been such smooth sailing for his offense so
- 15:38Speaker 1: far this season, and I talked to his wide receiver
- 15:41Speaker 1: Chris Godwin, and I asked him to describe what these
- 15:43Speaker 1: last couple of weeks have been like for the Buccaneers.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Godwin told me it's been strange, to say the least.
- 15:49Speaker 1: He said, it has been frustrating because they really have
- 15:51Speaker 1: not been able to pinpoint exactly why it is that
- 15:54Speaker 1: this offense has sputtered. He said, it's been misques, miscommunications,
- 15:58Speaker 1: dropped balls, all happening at different times out on the field.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Godwin told me, for himself personally, come back from that
- 16:05Speaker 1: a c L tear has been challenging. Now. He came
- 16:08Speaker 1: back earlier than anybody had expected, but he said the
- 16:11Speaker 1: physicality he uses his ability to make certain cuts has
- 16:15Speaker 1: been hard. He does feel though, that he is on
- 16:18Speaker 1: the cusp of returning to the Chris Godwin we are
- 16:20Speaker 1: used to seeing. He is still looking for his very
- 16:23Speaker 1: first touchdown catch of this season, and he also told
- 16:26Speaker 1: me that he believes that this offense is closer than
- 16:29Speaker 1: what anybody thinks. He goes, I know what you're thinking,
- 16:31Speaker 1: because you're looking at the product on the field, but
- 16:33Speaker 1: the guys inside feel like we are really close to
- 16:36Speaker 1: getting where we need to be. I asked Godwin what
- 16:39Speaker 1: he's looking most forward to eating over here. He said schnitzel,
- 16:43Speaker 1: and he said, I don't even know what that means.
- 16:45Speaker 1: He also told me he eats gluten and dairy free.
- 16:47Speaker 1: So Chris, good luck over here. Good luck with that
- 16:51Speaker 1: Seahawks Bucketeers. It's live on NFL Network nine thirty Eastern.
- 16:55Speaker 1: That's in the morning on Sunday. Also live on NFL Plus.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Steve Whitch with me, Brian Baldinger with me. White was
- 17:02Speaker 1: at the Rams Bucks Game Bucks Rams Game and we'll
- 17:05Speaker 1: call it that this past Sunday. For the record, Soccer
- 17:07Speaker 1: Made in Germany was a PBS show, uh that ran
- 17:10Speaker 1: from seventies six to eight eight with some of the
- 17:13Speaker 1: best highlights of German Bundesliga games. You don't remember that, Baldi, No,
- 17:20Speaker 1: I remember, and I also am a big fan of
- 17:22Speaker 1: Schnitzel so old yeah. Okay, um, Steve, that Vida vea
- 17:29Speaker 1: defense that tormented Matthew Stafford on Sunday. How does Gino
- 17:33Speaker 1: Smith and the Seahawks that is that matchup on Sunday?
- 17:35Speaker 1: That's good. I'm not gonna make a Dirk new Whiskey
- 17:37Speaker 1: Pool or anything like that. I'm gonna keep it football.
- 17:39Speaker 1: But it's look, Baldi, and you saw this. The Buccaneers
- 17:42Speaker 1: defense played like we're used to seeing them play, right.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Vita Villa was by far the best player in that
- 17:49Speaker 1: Rams game, and that defensive front overall was absolutely stout right.
- 17:53Speaker 1: You get a team Hicks back. They played like they're
- 17:56Speaker 1: we're used to seeing them play. The inside linebackers as well,
- 17:59Speaker 1: Devin White has been taking a lot of heat. He
- 18:01Speaker 1: was fantastic along with Lavonte David that was that led
- 18:04Speaker 1: to a lot of complimentary football. So if they can
- 18:07Speaker 1: continue that while this offense still figures this out against
- 18:10Speaker 1: the Seahawks, they can have a shot here. I mean,
- 18:12Speaker 1: they get pressure on Gino and they're able to stop
- 18:14Speaker 1: the run Kenneth Walker like they were able to do
- 18:17Speaker 1: against the Rams, and everyone stops the Rams against the run.
- 18:19Speaker 1: But if they were able to play like they did,
- 18:22Speaker 1: just the way the gaps sound and the way they
- 18:23Speaker 1: were they held their integrity, They've got a really good
- 18:26Speaker 1: shot here. And and Bald, I know you love watching
- 18:28Speaker 1: v ta Via do his thing last week. Well it's
- 18:31Speaker 1: straight ponies of power, you go. It's no no one
- 18:34Speaker 1: man can block him. So we recognize that. So Seattle, though,
- 18:39Speaker 1: they've got a counter to its Steve like they nobody
- 18:42Speaker 1: has a better trio of tight ends than the Seattle Seahawks,
- 18:45Speaker 1: and they play a lot. You know, Noah Fan had
- 18:47Speaker 1: a huge game last week, Will distily along with Cody
- 18:51Speaker 1: Cody Parkinson. Like these three guys in concert are excellent.
- 18:55Speaker 1: There's diste with the touchdown right there. But like you
- 18:58Speaker 1: watch these guys in thirteen personnel or whether they're two
- 19:01Speaker 1: tight ends, Kenneth Walker is running behind these tight ends
- 19:04Speaker 1: there both excellent blackers. There are all three, you know,
- 19:07Speaker 1: excellent receivers, and they're good after the catch. So I
- 19:10Speaker 1: just think that this is a formula that Seattle has
- 19:13Speaker 1: used to protect Geno Smith to get play action passes
- 19:16Speaker 1: down the field. And a big part of why Kenneth
- 19:19Speaker 1: Walker has run for seven touchdowns in the last five
- 19:22Speaker 1: games and why Seattle is four and oh in those
- 19:26Speaker 1: games right now. So this is a big formula that
- 19:29Speaker 1: the Tampa Bay has to get prepared for because I
- 19:32Speaker 1: don't think they've seen a trio of tight ends quite
- 19:34Speaker 1: like Seattle's, and it's something that they've got a you know,
- 19:37Speaker 1: really work on. This week nine thirty am Eastern Time,
- 19:40Speaker 1: coming up on Sunday, NFL Network right here, the Seahawks
- 19:44Speaker 1: and the Bucks also on NFL Plus. Those Bucks, by
- 19:47Speaker 1: the way, lead the NFC South, but they are tied
- 19:51Speaker 1: in the win loss record here at four and five.
- 19:53Speaker 1: With the team we're gonna see on Thursday Night, Adel
- 19:56Speaker 1: Foul Kids win at thirty seven to thirty four. So
- 20:01Speaker 1: that was only nine days ago when d J Moore
- 20:04Speaker 1: ripped office helmet, Edie panieramist a couple of kicks and
- 20:07Speaker 1: eventually the Falcons won the game. Just imagine if the
- 20:10Speaker 1: Panthers had won that game, if DJ Moore maybe hadn't
- 20:13Speaker 1: ripped his helmet off, then the Panthers would have been
- 20:14Speaker 1: in first last Monday on division record. It's strange but true.
- 20:19Speaker 1: P J. Walker is still going to be the quarterback
- 20:23Speaker 1: when these teams meet for the second time in three weeks.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Steve Wilkes made that decision yesterday ahead of the Panthers
- 20:31Speaker 1: and the Falcons coming up in two days. They all
- 20:36Speaker 1: have bad games. Um, p J wasn't the only one,
- 20:41Speaker 1: So um, we gotta play on Thursday. I can bench
- 20:44Speaker 1: everybody if we go off bad games, you know. So um,
- 20:47Speaker 1: we're gonna rally behind PJ and you know, definitely give
- 20:52Speaker 1: him the things that he needs from a game plan
- 20:54Speaker 1: standpoint that he can go out and execute cam Wolf.
- 20:57Speaker 1: With us now trying to figure out the Panthers quarterback
- 21:00Speaker 1: situation with Sam Donald coming back off, I R. Baker
- 21:03Speaker 1: Mayfield played well this path last week in the second half.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Can what do we make all of this? Andrew? The
- 21:08Speaker 1: bottom line is the Panthers three starting quarterback isn't on
- 21:13Speaker 1: this roster. We've seen that from the moves they've made,
- 21:16Speaker 1: and the rest of this season, notably Thursday's game against
- 21:19Speaker 1: the Falcons, will be seeing who is worth building around.
- 21:22Speaker 1: And you mentioned Baker Mayfield. Will Carolina brought him in
- 21:24Speaker 1: hoping he could potentially be the answer, but through five
- 21:27Speaker 1: games he had the worst QBR among quarterbacks who started
- 21:31Speaker 1: the most games for their teams. And so starting p
- 21:33Speaker 1: J Walker tells to me what the numbers say if
- 21:36Speaker 1: they don't need to see more of Baker to make
- 21:38Speaker 1: their offseason decisions. And p J Walker brings what Baker
- 21:42Speaker 1: and Sam Donald haven't, which is excitement to this offense.
- 21:46Speaker 1: We saw two weeks ago in that game maybe the
- 21:48Speaker 1: most exciting Finnis of the season the hail married a
- 21:51Speaker 1: DJ Moore. Well, p J Walker has the arm strength
- 21:53Speaker 1: to bring you a chance in any given game. But
- 21:56Speaker 1: the reality is the Panthers are very much looking for
- 21:59Speaker 1: their franchise quarterback. We know that because Panthers GM's got
- 22:02Speaker 1: Fitterer said a few weeks ago. Hey, we're not looking
- 22:05Speaker 1: to sell our core players like d J. Moore, Brian Burns,
- 22:09Speaker 1: and Derek Brown. We believe we can build around them
- 22:11Speaker 1: and just pop in that franchise quarterback. And so it
- 22:14Speaker 1: may be this offseason when they're drafting potentially in the
- 22:17Speaker 1: top five, when they can get that quarterback. But right
- 22:20Speaker 1: now they're hoping to find out about their team starting Thursday.
- 22:24Speaker 1: And speaking about the Falcons, that's another team that could
- 22:26Speaker 1: be in the mix the next off season four quarterback.
- 22:28Speaker 1: But right now they're most importantly in the mix for
- 22:31Speaker 1: that NFC South title with the Bucks tied for them
- 22:34Speaker 1: uh division lead as you mentioned, and they're really core
- 22:37Speaker 1: of this team has been their three headed rushing attack
- 22:40Speaker 1: Cordelle Patterson, Tyler Algerry and Caleb Huntley. And a lot
- 22:44Speaker 1: of fantasy football owners have been frustrated with Atlanta not
- 22:46Speaker 1: using Kyle Pits, not using Drake Lennon. Arthur Smith does
- 22:49Speaker 1: not care. He's gonna build this team in this mode.
- 22:52Speaker 1: They run the second most runs per game of any team,
- 22:55Speaker 1: and they're gonna run a ball a lot in Carolina
- 22:58Speaker 1: this past week, this this Thursday against a team that's
- 23:00Speaker 1: in the bottom five and rushing defense. And so look
- 23:04Speaker 1: for this team to continue to be a smashed mouth,
- 23:06Speaker 1: downhill rushing team as they go down the stretch and
- 23:09Speaker 1: hope to knock off the Bucks and somehow be a
- 23:12Speaker 1: surprise division winner. We'll see come it up next. Steve
- 23:16Speaker 1: has been working on the power rankings today. Well he
- 23:19Speaker 1: didn't make them, Answers made him. But we have them
- 23:23Speaker 1: and they might surprise you. Thanks, they might not. And
- 23:42Speaker 1: then's going and keep the focused and my boys make
- 23:44Speaker 1: major moves still the same ones that I came with.
- 23:46Speaker 1: I've been a payment to you. We need up in
- 23:48Speaker 1: a play with gets some things unchanged for the perch.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Just coach in from the touchdown right on the money
- 23:53Speaker 1: with his throw sins. It's just I'm standing football. All
- 23:57Speaker 1: these is blood sweat, it's it is. But I'm still
- 24:00Speaker 1: in there. None of things stop me, running up, running
- 24:04Speaker 1: up up, thing to stop me. Not only does Dan
- 24:13Speaker 1: Hansens do the power rankings here, that's his playlist as well.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Playing You Into the Eagles now at number one according
- 24:20Speaker 1: to Dan's new rankings on NFL dot com. It is
- 24:24Speaker 1: my favorite part of Tuesday, I mean, other than Baldi,
- 24:27Speaker 1: other than the sevoys and other than everything else we
- 24:29Speaker 1: do on this show. That is when Dan sits here
- 24:31Speaker 1: and we go through the new power ranking, is good
- 24:33Speaker 1: to see a dance. I'm behind all those in the
- 24:35Speaker 1: power rankings. What I started to say, you're my favorite,
- 24:38Speaker 1: and then I thought to myself, I don't want Steve
- 24:40Speaker 1: or Boldi or anyone to think that I was slighting that. Alright,
- 24:43Speaker 1: I'm going to start for all segments of this show equally,
- 24:46Speaker 1: all ten of them. Uh right. So the Eagles are
- 24:50Speaker 1: number one, Dan, They're the only remaining undefeated team of
- 24:53Speaker 1: the NFL. They've been that way for like a month.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Congratulations you finally put them at number one. Yeah, you know,
- 24:58Speaker 1: and I don't regret anything. It is what it is.
- 25:01Speaker 1: The Bills, to me, we're the best team in the
- 25:04Speaker 1: league until Sunday when they got humbled by a certain
- 25:07Speaker 1: team out of northern New York and out of northern
- 25:09Speaker 1: New Jersey. I got to say, so it is what
- 25:11Speaker 1: it is. And the Eagles and another way for powering
- 25:14Speaker 1: this guy. It's great because you have a locked and
- 25:16Speaker 1: loaded team. You slide him into number one, and they
- 25:18Speaker 1: deserve it. Obviously they haven't lost yet where they overwhelmingly
- 25:22Speaker 1: um exciting on Thursday night against the Texans. No, but
- 25:27Speaker 1: they got the win, and when you put it in
- 25:29Speaker 1: concert with the Bills lost, an easy move up the chart,
- 25:31Speaker 1: all right, So the Bills go down to two. Then
- 25:33Speaker 1: you get the Chiefs and the Cowboys at three and four,
- 25:35Speaker 1: and then you have the Ravens up one to number five.
- 25:38Speaker 1: They're ahead of the one lost Vikings at seven. I know,
- 25:42Speaker 1: Baltimore look good last night, defense, running game like the
- 25:44Speaker 1: old school Ravens, and there's six and three, but the
- 25:46Speaker 1: fifth best team in football ahead of the Viking. Yeah,
- 25:50Speaker 1: and that's now that the Eagles fans have been satiated.
- 25:53Speaker 1: It's Vikings fans that are upset with me on Twitter. Uh.
- 25:57Speaker 1: They say we're seven and one, why aren't we number two?
- 26:00Speaker 1: Or whatever? They expect? Probably number one, I guess, But
- 26:03Speaker 1: I just think the Ravens end send. There some issues
- 26:06Speaker 1: in the passing game right now, and that's understandable with
- 26:08Speaker 1: no Mark Andrews shod Bateman out for the year. But
- 26:10Speaker 1: they're better at everything else than the Vikings in my opinion.
- 26:15Speaker 1: They have excellent defense, the great, battle tested coaching, a
- 26:19Speaker 1: running game, and then a quarterback in Lamar Jackson, who
- 26:22Speaker 1: is just special and the And that's where it gets
- 26:25Speaker 1: a little tricky, obviously, because the Vikings, what have they
- 26:27Speaker 1: done wrong? Besides it gets spanked by the Eagle Eagles
- 26:30Speaker 1: way back when. I guess it's still that you watch
- 26:33Speaker 1: them every week and you you respect that they win
- 26:35Speaker 1: these close games, but you also want to see that
- 26:38Speaker 1: big performance that announces, hey, we are on the we
- 26:41Speaker 1: are on par with these top What if they beat
- 26:42Speaker 1: the Bills this week with Josh Allen is Josh Allen's elbow?
- 26:48Speaker 1: N I think I'm annoyed because I want the Vikings
- 26:52Speaker 1: two ball out and destroy the Bills and show that
- 26:55Speaker 1: they are a true Super Bowl contender. And now they
- 26:57Speaker 1: might get a compromised Josh Allen. But at the same time,
- 27:00Speaker 1: maybe Allen's healthy. We hope he is, and that will
- 27:01Speaker 1: be a great game. It's a great test on paper.
- 27:04Speaker 1: Right now, it sounds like a Jets fan here, speaking
- 27:06Speaker 1: of which I'm kidding, I'm messing with you. Speaking of which,
- 27:09Speaker 1: you have the Jets at number nine. They're up from
- 27:11Speaker 1: fourteen to nine. After listening to the first thirty minutes
- 27:15Speaker 1: of the Around the NFL podcast yesterday, which included an
- 27:17Speaker 1: appearance by your father. Big Jets fans as well. I'm
- 27:20Speaker 1: shocked you don't have them at number one. See, well,
- 27:22Speaker 1: that shows that I'm a man of integrity, as you know. Uh.
- 27:26Speaker 1: It is a weird feeling and a surreal feeling for
- 27:29Speaker 1: the Jets and their fan base right now, because it
- 27:31Speaker 1: was everything seemed to be crashing down to earth after
- 27:34Speaker 1: the Patriots lost a week earlier. But that was such
- 27:36Speaker 1: a great team effort and that defense, and we talked
- 27:39Speaker 1: about it was Steve Weish today on the Power Rankings podcast.
- 27:42Speaker 1: That defense is for real. They match up really well
- 27:45Speaker 1: with Buffalo. Hell, they match up really well with everyone
- 27:47Speaker 1: because they can get pressure and get home upfront without blitzing.
- 27:51Speaker 1: And you have in DJ Read and Sauce Gardner a
- 27:54Speaker 1: dynamic one to punch it. I'm not saying it's Revas
- 27:57Speaker 1: and Crimarty, but you have to go back to those
- 27:59Speaker 1: teams with Rex to find a back end that was
- 28:02Speaker 1: as strong as this. I don't know what's Wilson's future
- 28:05Speaker 1: is the season and whether he'll be the dude, but
- 28:08Speaker 1: this defense is going to keep him in games all
- 28:09Speaker 1: year long. All right, Well, the dude bide at this
- 28:11Speaker 1: past Sunday, and the Jets wanted to beat the Bills.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Now beyond that, you get the Hawks, the Bengals, the Dolphins,
- 28:15Speaker 1: the Giants, the Patriots. That's the top fourteen kind of
- 28:18Speaker 1: the playoff line. And it seems like, and this was
- 28:20Speaker 1: kind of group think on our six am call this morning,
- 28:23Speaker 1: that beyond say like sixteen seventeen, you kind of just
- 28:26Speaker 1: threw them all against the wall because you have the
- 28:28Speaker 1: Raiders ahead of the Jaguars, who they just lost to
- 28:33Speaker 1: in Jacksonville this past Sunday. Is I'm not saying that
- 28:37Speaker 1: that that speaks to your lack of effort? Does that
- 28:39Speaker 1: effort there? Does that speak to the parody or the
- 28:43Speaker 1: or the middle class here? Like, No, it's the effort
- 28:46Speaker 1: is there, but the execution is flowing. I think that's
- 28:48Speaker 1: what it probably is. No, it is all these teams
- 28:51Speaker 1: are so close. I guess there's still just a little
- 28:54Speaker 1: part of me that thinks the Raiders aren't this bad.
- 28:58Speaker 1: I mean, they've lost now, they've blown three seventeen point leads,
- 29:01Speaker 1: but you got to get a seventeen point lead to
- 29:03Speaker 1: blow a seventeen point lead. So while I last half,
- 29:05Speaker 1: all while I'm out on the silver and Black. Obviously,
- 29:08Speaker 1: I see they're plumbing down the rankings the last couple
- 29:11Speaker 1: of weeks. I also have to say that the Jaguars
- 29:14Speaker 1: aren't exactly a dynasty in the making right now. These
- 29:17Speaker 1: are all teams that are in the murky. They're the
- 29:20Speaker 1: soft underbelly of the NFL right now. So yes, it
- 29:22Speaker 1: is a bit of a coin flip at a certain
- 29:25Speaker 1: I will say the spinning the Jaguars positively heading into
- 29:28Speaker 1: last week's game. Their offense and this includes twenty four
- 29:31Speaker 1: first downs of via penalty as well, had the most
- 29:33Speaker 1: first downs in football they're making and I wrote two
- 29:37Speaker 1: and six before. They want undeniable progress under Doug Peterson.
- 29:41Speaker 1: You want some more consistency from Trevor Lawrence obviously, but
- 29:44Speaker 1: you've definitely had a step up in that direction as well.
- 29:47Speaker 1: We'd all like to see the Jaguars, you know, clean
- 29:50Speaker 1: things up and pick outside the top ten in April's draft.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Let's hope for that. Houston would first right now. He's
- 29:56Speaker 1: a man of anting podcast here, Dan Hansers the Power
- 29:58Speaker 1: Workings podcast around the NFL podcast too Many. That's for management,
- 30:02Speaker 1: not for me, Thank you, Danny. You're probably watching the
- 30:05Speaker 1: game last night while a lot of people in Indianapolis
- 30:07Speaker 1: were watching the Jeff Saturday introductory press conference. If you
- 30:10Speaker 1: missed it, here are some of the highlights. If anyone
- 30:14Speaker 1: wants to kind of diminish anything that that coach did,
- 30:18Speaker 1: you'd be wrong because your opinion really doesn't matter. What
- 30:22Speaker 1: matters is is the facts. There is no problem of perception,
- 30:26Speaker 1: except some of you guys make a problem of perception.
- 30:29Speaker 1: But you did hits, so you gotta do it. I understand.
- 30:32Speaker 1: I do the same thing. I was a broadcast journalism major.
- 30:35Speaker 1: The game is not different. We don't build rockets to
- 30:37Speaker 1: go to Mars. We're not nuclear scientists. That is none
- 30:40Speaker 1: of our jobs here. You operate like the c i A.
- 30:44Speaker 1: It's very analytical, it's very unemotional, it's very very methodical.
- 30:48Speaker 1: I don't know how to make sausage. I don't know
- 30:50Speaker 1: what goes into sausage. But I do know how to
- 30:52Speaker 1: build a football team because I've been around for fifty
- 30:55Speaker 1: two years. Where the fourth winning is franchise in the
- 30:58Speaker 1: league since two thousand alright, that means in the upper
- 31:02Speaker 1: quartile of winners were in the top quartile. That upper quarttile.
- 31:06Speaker 1: You want to bet against this guy put your money down.
- 31:09Speaker 1: People love to see it. I love to see it,
- 31:13Speaker 1: all right. We wanted to play some of that because
- 31:15Speaker 1: we didn't have a chance to play the forty two
- 31:17Speaker 1: minute presser in its entirety, Dan Hansus, I joked with
- 31:20Speaker 1: your buddy Mark Sessler earlier, is there going to be
- 31:23Speaker 1: an emergency around the NFL pod after that pressor your
- 31:27Speaker 1: two cents? Yeah, just about to go record that. I
- 31:30Speaker 1: don't know how to make sausage either. I do prefer spicy,
- 31:34Speaker 1: oversweet by like all kinds of sausages. I just want
- 31:37Speaker 1: to say this. I don't agree necessarily with the direction
- 31:41Speaker 1: that the culture going right now, but the horses out
- 31:43Speaker 1: of the barn on the NFL season, let's get weird.
- 31:47Speaker 1: That was weird last night. Let's keep it going. I
- 31:49Speaker 1: love it. Look, I know, do merstay to support you
- 31:52Speaker 1: Saturday and make his decisions, you know, and and kind
- 31:55Speaker 1: of pound his chest about knowing how to you know,
- 31:57Speaker 1: win football games. If all that were true, they wouldn't
- 31:59Speaker 1: be there where they are right now. Okay, so if
- 32:02Speaker 1: all decisions he made were great, they would be firing
- 32:06Speaker 1: a coach and making a decision like this right now.
- 32:07Speaker 1: But all props that you have shattered to good luck
- 32:10Speaker 1: absolutely and horse out of Barnes that like a Coults,
- 32:13Speaker 1: it's like stay weird two. I'm for it, see it Yeah.
