- 0:00Vox Liturgica: The proppers of the day according to the 1962 Roman Missal. The feast of Saint Lawrence of Brindisi, confessor and doctor, July 21 in the year of our Lord 2026.
- 0:21Lawrence of Brindisi, a Capuchin friar who for some years ruled his whole order acquired great fame for learning and eloquence, and labored with remarkable success in most parts of Europe preaching to Catholics, to Protestants, and to Jews. When 80,000 Turks invaded Hungary in sixteen o five, he it was who inspired the united Christian armies of 18,000 men to the attack and himself led them to complete victory riding before them bearing a large cross. He died in Lisbon in the year of our Lord 1611.
- 1:11Today is commemorated Saint Praxades. The feast of Saint Pius I on July 11 recalled to our mind Saint Prudentiana and her sister Saint Praxades who both placed their house at the disposal of this holy pontiff. The first appears in the cycle on May 19 under the reign of the risen Lord and the second on this day under the reign of the Holy Ghost. On the Tuesday of the third week of Lent, this station is held at Rome in the titular church of Saint Prudenciana. And on the Monday in Holy Week at the titular church of Saint Praxadis.
- 2:02This saint, a daughter of the Roman senator Prudens, consecrated her virginity to God and renounced her great wealth in favor of the poor and of the church. She thereby acquired the treasure and precious pearl of the heavenly kingdom. The religious ceremonies which took place in her mansion attracted the attention of the pagans. Many Christians were arrested there and led away to death. She died under Antoninus in the second century after having besought God to deliver her from the sight of such woeful scenes.
- 2:44Her body was laid by that of her father and sister in the cemetery of her grandmother, Priscilla. Let us celebrate joyfully the feast of the Blessed Virgin Praxades in order to obtain thereby sentiments of loving devotion. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. The Introit.
- 3:18In the midst of the church, he opened his mouth, and the Lord filled him with the spirit of wisdom and understanding. He clothed him with a robe of glory. Sweet it is to praise the Lord, to sing most high God in honor of thy name. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen.
- 3:54In the midst of the church, he opened his mouth and the Lord filled him with a spirit of wisdom and understanding. He clothed him with a robe of glory. The Collect. Let us pray. O God, who didst confer upon thy confessor and doctor, blessed Lawrence, a spirit of wisdom and fortitude and hard labors for the glory of thy name and for the salvation of souls.
- 4:30Grant us in the same spirit both to perceive where our duty lies and to accomplish it through his intercession. A commemoration of Saint Praxadis. Graciously hear us, O God our Savior, that as we rejoice in the festival of blessed Praxadis, thy Virgin, so we may be taught by the spirit of pious devotion through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the second letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to Timothy.
- 5:23Dearly beloved, I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus who is to judge the living and the dead and by his appearing and his kingdom. Preach the word. Be urgent in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, and exhort. Be unfailing in patience and in doctrine for the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears, they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own likings and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander into myths.
- 6:17As for you, always be steady, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry, For I am already being poured out in sacrifice. The time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith.
- 6:51Henceforth, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day. And not only to me, but also to all who have loved his advent. The gradual. The mouth of the just shall meditate wisdom and his tongue shall speak judgment. The law of God is in his heart and his steps shall not be supplanted.
- 7:31Alleluia. Alleluia. The Lord loved him and adorned him. He clothed him with a robe of glory. Alleluia.
- 7:46A continuation of the holy gospel according to Matthew. At that time, Jesus said to his disciples, you are the salt of the earth. But if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trodden underfoot by men. You are the light of the world.
- 8:16A city set on a hill cannot be hid nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and give glory to your father who is in heaven. Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets. I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly I say to you till heaven and earth pass away not an iota, not a dot will pass from the law until all is accomplished.
- 9:09Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and so teaches men shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but he that shall do them and teach them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. The offertory. The just man shall flourish like the palm tree. He shall grow to greatness like the cedars of Lebanon. The secret.
- 9:50May the holy prayer of Saint Lawrence, thy confessor and doctor, not fail us, O Lord. May it render our offerings acceptable and ever obtain for us thy pardon. A commemoration of Saint Praxades. May the offering of thy consecrated people be accepted by thee, O Lord, in honour of thy saints, by whose merits it knoweth that it hath received aid in time of trouble. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages.
- 10:40Amen. The Common Preface Just it is indeed and fitting, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, everlasting God, through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, the powers stand in awe, The heavens and the hosts of heaven, together with the blessed Seraphim, joyfully do magnify. We entreat thee that thou command it be permitted us to join with them in confessing thee while we say with lowly praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts. The heavens and the earth are full of thy glory.
- 11:40Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The communion. He is a faithful and wise servant whom the Lord setteth over his family to give them their measure of wheat in due season.
- 12:10The post communion. Let us pray. We beseech thee, O Lord, that blessed Lawrence, thy bishop and illustrious doctor, may join his prayers to ours, that this thy sacrifice may bring us salvation. A commemoration of Saint Praxades. Thou hast filled thy household, O Lord, with sacred gifts.
- 12:42Ever comfort us, we beseech thee, through her intercession, whose festival celebrate, through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. Saint Lawrence of Brindisi, pray for us.
