- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Isn't it funny that so many writers don't make the time to read?
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: We love books, we love creating books, but sometimes we struggle to fit reading books into our schedules.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Reading is a critical part of the creative process.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Now you also need other inputs like listening to great talks or watching videos and movies or seeing plays or other ways to experience great art.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: But above all, you have to read because that's what writers do.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: That's part of our job description.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: We read and we write.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: So here's a simple method for reading more books.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: That is very simple.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: It's take a book everywhere you go.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Now, even though you can already take ebooks and audiobooks with you on your phone, let's assume that you prefer print books like many people do.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: And honestly, I prefer print books most of the time as well.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: Now it may seem kind of weird to carry a book with you everywhere, but honestly, it really does work.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Think of all those little spare moments that you have throughout the day.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: You've got 10 minutes here while you're waiting to pick up your kid from school.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: You've got 15 minutes there while you're waiting to get your license renewed at the DMV.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: You've got five minutes here when you're waiting for your husband or your wife who's in the store.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: You've got 20 minutes there before you're waiting for your next Zoom call or meeting.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Mark Twain famously said, a person who won't read has no advantage over one who can't read.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: And that's such an important quote.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Let me actually share that again to make sure you catch it.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: Mark Twain famously said, a person who won't read has no advantage over one who can't read.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: So you don't necessarily need to block off huge chunks of time to get more reading done.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: There's tons of little moments that add up to 30 or 60 minutes every single day that you're basically frittering away watching YouTube videos, checking your phone for the millionth time, or just kind of staring off into space.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: I mean, we all do that sometimes, right?
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: But we can take advantage of those little moments so we can get more reading done.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: And when you have a book actually with you, whether it's an audiobook or ebook or print book, it doesn't really make any difference.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: It's whatever you prefer.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: When you have a book with you, it makes it so much easier to get reading done in those little spare moments.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: So here's today's challenge.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: Take a book with you everywhere you go today.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: A big thanks to today's sponsor, The Word Wizard.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: You may have written a great book, but it's not ready for publication until it's been in the hands of a master editor.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: That's why my friend Karen Hunsinger, also known as The Word Wizard, is the perfect partner to help you craft the highest quality book possible.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: A great editor doesn't just correct grammar and spelling, they also correct wordiness, shifts in tone and voice, the overuse of particular words, and they also enhance transitions, clarity, and accuracy.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: I've worked with Karen many times, and she is absolutely your secret weapon for crafting an amazing book.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: Make sure to visit Karen Hunsinger.com for a free sample edit.
