- 0:00Since it is Saint Patrick's Day, I thought I'd throw out a little
- 0:02trivia for you guys, just a little historical information
- 0:06about Saint Patrick's. There really was the Saint
- 0:08Patrick, right? He had absolutely nothing to do
- 0:10with beer, or you know, green beer by all means.
- 0:13But you know how Saint Patrick's, how all that came
- 0:16about was his, his real name was was Merwin Sukat.
- 0:22I think I'm pronouncing that right.
- 0:23But he was actually English. He was not even Irish, but he
- 0:27was from England and at 16 years old he got kidnapped and got
- 0:31enslaved in Ireland. So he was brought to Ireland and
- 0:35working basically on a big farm plantation.
- 0:39And this is over in the 400. So we're talking 1600 years ago
- 0:43and was enslaved there. He was, I think 6 years.
- 0:46He was held in captivity, forced labor, and he eventually
- 0:50escaped. And he had prayed every night.
- 0:53If he has the ability to escape, he would devote his life to God.
- 0:56And so ultimately, after six years, he escaped, found his way
- 1:00back to England. And from there he entered the
- 1:03church and became a priest. After maybe like 15 years, I
- 1:07think of studying, he ended up becoming a priest and then he
- 1:10devoted his life to, I was there mostly, you know, there were
- 1:15pagans back then. So he devoted his life to
- 1:17spreading the word of Christianity in Ireland to the
- 1:20area that kidnapped him. So he went back to Ireland and
- 1:24started spreading Christianity. And he used the Clover as a way
- 1:28to talk about the Holy Trinity, the Father, Son, the Holy
- 1:31Spirit, the three leaves of the Clover.
- 1:33That's why the Shamrock is kind of the, what we know of, as you
- 1:37know, tie that in with with Saint Patrick's Day.
- 1:40But his Christian name, when he adopted a Christian name after
- 1:43converting Christianity became he was Patrick.
- 1:47So then ultimately he was sainted, became Saint Patrick.
- 1:50And that's the reason for the Shamrock.
- 1:52And I can't tell you where the green beer came.
- 1:55Where does that tie in with the? Yeah, but you know, dry stout
- 1:58Ireland. We all think of Guinness and
- 2:01other other dry stouts as, as the national beer, you know,
- 2:05that we drank on Saint Patty's Day, not green beer, but that's,
- 2:08that was the, the, the prevalent beer that came about.
- 2:11And so that's what we celebrate Saint Patrick's Day today with.
- 2:15We're happy he existed. Yeah.
- 2:17Sorry you got kidnapped, but exactly.
- 2:19And there you have it, the history of Saint Patrick's.
- 2:22Day. Happy Saint Patrick's Day.
