- Lucas: Hallo, and welcome back to Learn Dutch with Fexingo! I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode thirty-eight! We're getting good at this. Lucas: Absolutely. Today, we're going to the market. The Dutch market. Luna: Oh, I love markets! In Dutch, we already know how to say 'appels' from the supermarket episode, right? Lucas: Yes! We covered 'appels' in episode twenty-five. But today, we're focusing on buying fruit at a market. Let's start with a simple one: 'Ik wil graag appels.' Luna: Ik wil graag appels. That means 'I would like apples.' Lucas: Exactly. 'Appels' is apples. 'Ik wil graag' is 'I would like.' Repeat after me: Ik wil graag appels. Luna: Ik wil graag appels. That feels nice to say. Lucas: Perfect. Now, let's say you want a kilo of oranges. 'Mag ik een kilo sinaasappels?' Luna: Sinaasappels. That's a long word! Can you break it down? Lucas: Sure. 'Sien-aas-ap-pels.' Try it slowly. Luna: Sien-aas-ap-pels. Sinaasappels. And 'kilo' is the same as English. Lucas: Right. So: 'Mag ik een kilo sinaasappels?' Luna: Mag ik een kilo sinaasappels? That means 'May I have a kilo of oranges?' Lucas: Exactly. And the seller might ask 'Hoeveel kost het?' That's 'How much does it cost?' Luna: Hoeveel kost het? I remember that from the bakery episode. Lucas: Good memory. So you can ask that too. But let's imagine the seller says a price. If it's too high, you can say 'Dat is duur!' Luna: Dat is duur! That sounds like 'That is expensive!' Lucas: Yes! 'Duur' means expensive. Try it. Luna: Dat is duur! Hmm, but what if the price is good? Lucas: Then you can say 'Ja, graag.' That means 'Yes, please.' It's a polite way to accept. Luna: Ja, graag. So if the seller says 'Vijf euro voor een kilo,' I can say 'Ja, graag.' Lucas: Exactly. Let's practice all five phrases. First: 'Ik wil graag appels.' Luna: Ik wil graag appels. Lucas: Second: 'Mag ik een kilo sinaasappels?' Luna: Mag ik een kilo sinaasappels? Lucas: Third: 'Hoeveel kost het?' Luna: Hoeveel kost het? Lucas: Fourth: 'Dat is duur!' Luna: Dat is duur! Lucas: And fifth: 'Ja, graag.' Luna: Ja, graag. I love how versatile 'graag' is. Lucas: Me too. Now let's do a tiny scene. Imagine you're at the market. Luna: Okay, I'll be the customer. Lucas: And I'll be the seller. Go ahead. Luna: Goedemorgen! Ik wil graag appels. Lucas: Goedemorgen! Hoeveel wilt u? Luna: Mag ik een kilo appels? Hoeveel kost het? Lucas: Dat is vier euro. Luna: Ah, dat is duur! Maar ja, graag. Lucas: Perfect! You said 'Ja, graag' even though it was expensive. That's a real conversation. Luna: Thanks! And I remembered 'goedemorgen' from way back in episode one. See, it all connects. Lucas: It does. Let's repeat the phrases one more time. Listen and repeat: Ik wil graag appels. Luna: Ik wil graag appels. Lucas: Mag ik een kilo sinaasappels? Luna: Mag ik een kilo sinaasappels? Lucas: Hoeveel kost het? Luna: Hoeveel kost het? Lucas: Dat is duur! Luna: Dat is duur! Lucas: Ja, graag. Luna: Ja, graag. I think I've got them. Lucas: You have. Practice these at a market, or just with yourself. And remember, Fexingo is here to help you learn Dutch. Luna: Exactly. Keep practicing, and we'll see you next time. Tot ziens! Lucas: Tot ziens!
