Speaker 1: In part by Morgan and Morgan was more than twenty
• 0:02
Speaker 1: billion dollars recovered. They believe that when you're injured, you
• 0:04
Speaker 1: deserve more. Morgan Morgan America's largest injury law firm. I
• 0:08
Speaker 1: want to talk about House Bill five to two O four,
• 0:11
Speaker 1: the Child Captivity Prevention Act. You've been big on this.
• 0:15
  Speaker 1: Explain the bill.
• 0:17
Speaker 2: This bill is in response to the case that was
• 0:20
Speaker 2: here in Kanall County, in Cinsonville, West Virginia, where a
• 0:23
Speaker 2: couple that was from Minnesota by way of Washington State
• 0:28
Speaker 2: came to West Virginia with I believe five adopted children
• 0:32
Speaker 2: and basically held those children in slavery.
• 0:34
Speaker 1: They were kept in a barn.
• 0:36
Speaker 2: From what I understand they did, there was no schooling,
• 0:38
Speaker 2: they were made to do work. They were treated very,
• 0:41
Speaker 2: very inhumane. And what this bill attempts to do is
• 0:46
Speaker 2: address that. So if you're going to come into state
• 0:49
Speaker 2: of West Virginia, you're going to homeschool your kids, we
• 0:52
Speaker 2: just want to build a touch point. The bill outlines
• 0:55
Speaker 2: that DHS would be that touch point just to say, hey,
• 0:59
Speaker 2: you know, just let us come and if you're choosing
• 1:02
Speaker 2: to do homeschool, we just want to make note of it.
• 1:06
Speaker 2: Possibly do a home visit and just make note of it.
• 1:08
Speaker 2: It's not meant to be punitive. It's not meant to
• 1:11
Speaker 2: inhibit your school choice if you want to you know, however,
• 1:13
Speaker 2: you want to educate your kids. But it just creates
• 1:17
Speaker 2: that touch point and I think it's it's rare. It
• 1:19
Speaker 2: goes with Rayley's law, Raley's loss kind of on the
• 1:22
Speaker 2: other end of that where a parent took their kid
• 1:26
Speaker 2: out of school after abuse claims a CPS claim and
• 1:30
Speaker 2: sort of creates that touch point there. So we want
• 1:32
Speaker 2: to just we don't want West Virginia to be a
• 1:35
Speaker 2: haven for these sort of activities, whether slavery or human
• 1:39
Speaker 2: traffick or however you want to phrase it.
• 1:41
Speaker 1: And that was a horrific case. And in the time
• 1:44
Speaker 1: that I have done this show, Dell, that was one
• 1:46
Speaker 1: of the cases that was the single most difficult even
• 1:50
Speaker 1: to even talk about. And I know that you've, because
• 1:54
Speaker 1: of your support of this particular bill that you have
• 1:56
Speaker 1: been working on, you've had to really dive into that
• 1:58
Speaker 1: what what what what a horrible, horrible story that was.
• 2:01
Speaker 2: And it was like it was one of those things
• 2:03
Speaker 2: where a lot of the community members were worried for
• 2:06
Speaker 2: a long time because they were seeing that activity in
• 2:08
Speaker 2: that community. And you know, and it's not lost on
• 2:11
Speaker 2: me that I believe that they came to West Virginia intentionally.
• 2:15
Speaker 2: I don't believe they just sort of spun the globe
• 2:18
Speaker 2: and just point their finger on it. I believe they
• 2:20
Speaker 2: came because of our relaxed educational school choice laws and policies.
• 2:26
Speaker 2: So they knew that they could come to an area Sinsonville,
• 2:29
Speaker 2: which is it's rule, but it's in close proximity to
• 2:33
Speaker 2: a city, so they weren't, you know, just they didn't
• 2:35
Speaker 2: have to be way far out to have access to
• 2:38
Speaker 2: maybe some of the things that they wanted to do
• 2:40
Speaker 2: in the metropolitan area. So we cannot allow that. Of
• 2:45
Speaker 2: that's just something that cannot be allowed. And what's troubling
• 2:51
Speaker 2: is that even that case, we should be talking more
• 2:53
Speaker 2: about this. It seems like we talked a lot about it,
• 2:55
Speaker 2: but it seems like it's one of those issues that
• 2:57
Speaker 2: we could talk just for days about that we cannot
• 3:00
Speaker 2: do this. And I would just want to send, you know,
• 3:03
Speaker 2: a shout out to our prosecutor here in Kanaal County,
• 3:05
Speaker 2: Judge Acres. I feel like they did a great job
• 3:08
Speaker 2: of handling that matter. And uh, you know, and and
• 3:11
Speaker 2: justice was served in my eyes.
• 3:13
Speaker 1: What are the odds of passage of this bill or
• 3:16
Speaker 1: where does it stand now?
• 3:17
Speaker 2: I mean right now you know it's uh, it's pending
• 3:20
Speaker 2: in committee. I believe it's in judiciary. So hopefully it
• 3:23
Speaker 2: can just at least be heard in the committee process.
• 3:26
Speaker 2: So you know, my fingers across. I'm optimistic. This is
• 3:29
Speaker 2: not a partisan bill. This isn't I mean, it shouldn't be.
• 3:32
  Speaker 1: That's what I was what I was.
• 3:33
Speaker 2: Getting, and that's what I want to say. This isn't
• 3:35
  Speaker 2: a partisan bill.
• 3:36
Speaker 1: You know, you have you have your fellow legislators that
• 3:38
Speaker 1: are Republicans that are on board with this, that you've
• 3:40
Speaker 1: talked to, maybe not on the record, but if you
• 3:42
Speaker 1: talk to a few that said.
• 3:44
Speaker 2: I've talked to a few and they have agreed to,
• 3:46
Speaker 2: you know, give it a look. And that's all I
• 3:48
Speaker 2: can ask. I'm not you know, I don't want to
• 3:50
Speaker 2: call anybody out, but they have agreed to, you know,
• 3:52
Speaker 2: give it a look and give it consideration. And again,
• 3:55
Speaker 2: I just wanted an opportunity to be heard because, as
• 3:57
Speaker 2: I mentioned, this is not partisans this isn't liberal. This
• 4:00
Speaker 2: isn't conservative. This is about protecting our children. And also
• 4:03
Speaker 2: this is about protecting a reputation in West Virginia.
• 4:06
  Speaker 3: Right.
• 4:06
Speaker 2: We don't want to be viewed as a state where,
• 4:09
Speaker 2: you know, we're open to this sort of activity in
• 4:12
Speaker 2: any capacity. So we need to stop it before it starts.
• 4:16
Speaker 1: Now, if I'm correct with the with the the parents
• 4:19
Speaker 1: that were involved in this or the adults in this case, yeah, yeah,
• 4:24
Speaker 1: that's a better way to put it. And that's that's questionable.
• 4:28
Speaker 1: They did not have any ties to the West Virginia area,
• 4:30
Speaker 1: Am I right about that? No ties.
• 4:32
Speaker 2: They were in Minnesota at one point, Washington State at
• 4:35
Speaker 2: another point, and then I believe from Washington State they
• 4:38
Speaker 2: moved to West Virginia. And like I mentioned earlier, I
• 4:40
Speaker 2: believe it was intentional. I think they done they did
• 4:42
Speaker 2: their research to see what state or what area would
• 4:46
Speaker 2: we be able to sort of operate clandestine while still
• 4:51
Speaker 2: having you know, access to a city and community. So
• 4:54
Speaker 2: I believe it was intentional that they picked this area.
• 4:57
Speaker 1: So it's in the committee now, that's what you said.
• 4:59
Speaker 2: The buildings, so it's not up for you. So we'll
• 5:02
Speaker 2: see how it matriculates in the next you know, days,
• 5:05
Speaker 2: in the next couple of weeks.
• 5:07
Speaker 1: What's on your agenda today? What are you looking at
• 5:09
  Speaker 1: today or tomorrow?
• 5:10
Speaker 2: Well, like I said, we got some bills on third reading.
• 5:12
Speaker 2: That well, will you know, just going through the regular
• 5:15
  Speaker 2: process right.
• 5:16
Speaker 1: Now, what's the one thing that has happened this session?
• 5:20
Speaker 1: One or two things, Delegate that some discussions that have
• 5:25
Speaker 1: been had, whether they've been passed on under the capitol dumbess,
• 5:27
Speaker 1: made you say, Okay, this is good, We're on the
• 5:29
Speaker 1: right track. Yeah, I'm glad you said that.
• 5:31
Speaker 2: And then again, I just want to say, uh, you know,
• 5:34
Speaker 2: that's one thing I tried to do far as on
• 5:35
Speaker 2: my social media. I don't want to sit and just
• 5:37
Speaker 2: bask people all day. I want to just this is
• 5:40
Speaker 2: what I'm doing, and this is what I think we
• 5:41
Speaker 2: could do now. One building, and this is Delegate Pension
• 5:45
Speaker 2: out of Point Pleasant. He had a bill to create
• 5:49
Speaker 2: peer to peer support groups with our first responder agencies.
• 5:53
Speaker 2: So peer would get you know, a fellow law enforcement
• 5:57
Speaker 2: officer or EMS or firefighter. They would get a six
• 6:00
Speaker 2: And now we're training. So if something were to happen
• 6:02
Speaker 2: to one of their fellow teammates that was dramatic, they
• 6:06
Speaker 2: would be able to talk. So they create these perier
• 6:10
Speaker 2: to peer groups and they able to be able to
• 6:11
Speaker 2: have like counseling, and because a lot of times when
• 6:14
Speaker 2: you have a law enforcement officer, they don't want to
• 6:16
Speaker 2: go talk to somebody who doesn't understand the industry and
• 6:20
Speaker 2: kind of what they're dealing with on a daily basis.
• 6:22
Speaker 2: So I've actually signed on to be a co sponsor
• 6:25
Speaker 2: to that bill. It is a fabulous bill, and I
• 6:27
Speaker 2: think it's going to help us because as we've seen,
• 6:30
Speaker 2: we've had a lot of first responders suicide depths unfortunately
• 6:33
Speaker 2: throughout the state in the last couple of years. So
• 6:35
Speaker 2: I think this can be a pathway to some sort
• 6:38
Speaker 2: of quill that and you know, build some internal remedies well.
• 6:41
Speaker 1: And again, Delegate Penson has been on this show and
• 6:44
Speaker 1: on the Metro News midday show in the past, and
• 6:46
Speaker 1: he is about as conservative Republican as you can get. Yes,
• 6:50
Speaker 1: but I think that just kind of gives me hope
• 6:52
Speaker 1: there that there are because a lot of times we
• 6:55
Speaker 1: focus on the differences between and there are certainly a
• 6:58
Speaker 1: lot of them, but this is something from what you're
• 7:00
Speaker 1: telling me, and I haven't read the bill specifically, but
• 7:03
Speaker 1: the delegate pencil out of Mason County and you out
• 7:05
Speaker 1: of Kanawa County. One Republican, one Democrat work together and
• 7:09
Speaker 1: he is co sponsoring the bill. We probably need more
• 7:13
Speaker 1: of that, But I'm going to go and turn the
• 7:15
Speaker 1: camera around or the microphone in this case on ourselves.
• 7:18
Speaker 1: Maybe we in the media do need to focus on
• 7:21
  Speaker 1: more of that.
• 7:22
Speaker 2: One hundred percent. I think, like I said, there's going
• 7:24
Speaker 2: to be issues that are going to be contentious that
• 7:26
Speaker 2: we have to call them out, maybe they call us out.
• 7:29
Speaker 2: But I think there are all those touch points in
• 7:31
Speaker 2: which we are able to work together to actually do
• 7:33
Speaker 2: something that's going to benefit the people of West Virginia.
• 7:36
Speaker 2: And I can't think of anything that's going to benefit
• 7:39
Speaker 2: the people more than having first responders who are mentally
• 7:43
Speaker 2: and emotionally and spiritually healthy and ready to do their
• 7:48
Speaker 2: job for the people of West Virginia. And you know,
• 7:50
Speaker 2: I work I'm a CIT director as christ individual team.
• 7:53
Speaker 2: I work with first responders across the state of West
• 7:55
Speaker 2: Virginia and really across the country for that matter. So
• 7:58
Speaker 2: I understand intimately that importance of doing things like this delicate.
• 8:02
Speaker 1: Holliss Lewis is always a pleasure to have you in
• 8:04
Speaker 1: the show, my friend, you're at You're at the halfway

• 8:08

• 8:10

• 8:12
Speaker 2: of ways. So but we'll see the next thirty days.

Speaker 1: and I think as Delegate Lewis wisely pointed out, that
• 12:20
Speaker 1: textasys Southern West Virginia, and you're right, the bulk of
• 12:23
Speaker 1: the problems are in southern West Virginia, but it's in

• 12:44
Speaker 1: later on in this show. Yesterday, President Trump announced a
• 12:48
Speaker 1: major buy in for the coal industry. The Department of
• 12:51
Speaker 1: Energy Investment in coal fired power plants includes three in

Speaker 1: News and Tonight Live anchor Amande Baron and Me coming
• 13:22
Speaker 1: up at noon today tomorrow on this show, It's Friday,
• 13:26
Speaker 1: meaning Angie Gillenwater from the Kennala Charleston Humaine Association is
• 13:29
Speaker 1: here with this week's Adopt Me. Please put it of
• 13:30
Speaker 1: the week tomorrow. And speaking of that, I do want
• 13:33
Speaker 1: to mention because we've had a lot of folks that
• 13:34
Speaker 1: reached out to me about the investigation into the dog
• 13:37
Speaker 1: named Stubbs. You will recall the story. Stubbs a dog
• 13:41
Speaker 1: that was thrown from a car window or run over,
• 13:45
Speaker 1: shot twice. Someone dropped him off at the shelter and
• 13:49
Speaker 1: then left without leaving any information. They attempted to do
• 13:53
Speaker 1: a medical procedure on Stubbs and he did not survive it.
• 13:57
Speaker 1: They actually had to put him down because of complication
• 14:00
Speaker 1: during the surgery, and the investigation is continued. I just
• 14:03
Speaker 1: talked to Angie Gillenwater from mconnell Charleston New Main Association
• 14:06
Speaker 1: prior to the show, and because some folks that asked
• 14:09
Speaker 1: me about an update on Stubbs, and at this time
• 14:13
Speaker 1: the investigation is continuing. There is no update. They are
• 14:16
Speaker 1: working feverishly with the Charleston Police Department and others trying
• 14:18
Speaker 1: to bring somebody to justice in this dog's death. And
• 14:23
Speaker 1: that's kind of that's kind of where it is right now.
• 14:26
Speaker 1: But again we'll talk to Angie about that coming up

• 14:34
Speaker 1: but it could be lucky if you want to get married.
• 14:36
Speaker 1: Judge Mary Claire Akers is going to be doing her
• 14:38
Speaker 1: King of Hearts Marathon Day of Weddings. We had her
• 14:41
Speaker 1: on the show earlier this week and also had our
• 14:44
Speaker 1: Metro News midday as well. So this is all going
• 14:47
Speaker 1: on tomorrow and since Valentine's Day is on Saturday this year,
• 14:51
Speaker 1: we're going to go live she's doing the King of
• 14:53
Speaker 1: Hearts thing tomorrow. We're going to go live to the
• 14:55
Speaker 1: Courthouse for a check in with her on tomorrow show
• 14:57
Speaker 1: to see how it's going. That is all coming up
• 14:59
Speaker 1: on tomorrow's tex says the House of Representatives passed the
• 15:03
Speaker 1: Save Act. They're trying to disenfranchise women's votes because Republican
• 15:06
Speaker 1: policies aren't popular among women. Occurrently, says a Tankster quick
• 15:16
Speaker 1: note about talk Line today, and we're going to check
• 15:18
Speaker 1: in with Meadows and Northern Dave Wilson coming up a
• 15:22
Speaker 1: little bit later on in the show, but among their
• 15:24
Speaker 1: guests today will be West Virginia Secretary of State Chris Warner.
• 15:28
Speaker 1: Secretary of Warner is making the news for denying a
• 15:34
Speaker 1: request from the Trump Department of Justice. Now here's the story.
• 15:38
Speaker 1: The Department of Justice made a request for full access
• 15:43
Speaker 1: to the state's voter rolls. Secretary Warner said, and I
• 15:48
Speaker 1: will say this, He's not the only secretary of state
• 15:50
Speaker 1: across the nation that has said this to the Trump administration.
• 15:54
Speaker 1: They simply said no, quote from Secretary Warner, state law
• 16:00
Speaker 1: clear voter lists are available in a redacted format from
• 16:04
Speaker 1: my office. But I will not be turning over any
• 16:06
Speaker 1: West Virginia's protected information in quote, and he goes on
• 16:10
Speaker 1: to say that the DOJ doesn't have the authority to
• 16:13
Speaker 1: run state elections, saying again quoting I support the effort
• 16:18
Speaker 1: to strengthen election integrity, but I will not break the
• 16:22
Speaker 1: law in quote. Now, a little background here. The Department
• 16:26
Speaker 1: of Justice sent a letter to every state back in
• 16:30
Speaker 1: September asking for full access to the voter rolls, unredacted,
• 16:38
Speaker 1: with full names, addresses, driver's license numbers, partial social security
• 16:44
Speaker 1: numbers of every registered voter. And this came out of Washington,
• 16:49
Speaker 1: the Department of Justice asking for this. Secretary Warner republican.
• 16:54
Speaker 1: Several other Secretaries of State have said simply no editorial comment.
• 17:00
Speaker 1: I'm your host here, amen, and hats off to Secretary Warner.
• 17:06
Speaker 1: In my opinion, and again, I don't give a lot
• 17:08
Speaker 1: of opinions when I have other guests in the show,
• 17:10
Speaker 1: but when I'm by myself, I kind of like to
• 17:13
Speaker 1: give my opinion. It's just another attempt, in my opinion,
• 17:17
Speaker 1: by the Trump administration to take things out of State's
• 17:21
Speaker 1: hands and into d C, which, when you think about it,
• 17:26
Speaker 1: is the least Republican thing ever. And again I applaud
• 17:33
Speaker 1: Secretary Warner. Interestingly enough, Chris Warner's younger brother, Mac, former
• 17:39
Speaker 1: Secretary of State, now works in the Trump administration. If
• 17:43
Speaker 1: I'm correct on it, and if I'm not, think it's
• 17:44
Speaker 1: for the Department of Justice. And if I am a
• 17:47
Speaker 1: totally different div I mean, the Department of Justice is
• 17:50
Speaker 1: pretty big division. It's not like you, you know, run
• 17:52
Speaker 1: into people in the hallway or anything like that. But
• 17:55
Speaker 1: I will say that when Mac Warner, Chris's brother with
• 17:59
Speaker 1: Secretary of State during the first Trump administration, he turned
• 18:02
Speaker 1: down similar measures, not exactly worded the same way. But
• 18:05
Speaker 1: again during the first Trump administration, they were asking going
• 18:08
Speaker 1: to secretaries of state around the country Republican, a Democrat,
• 18:11
Speaker 1: and asking for information that quite frankly, is unconstitutional for
• 18:16
Speaker 1: them to give up because Constitution is pretty planned on that.
• 18:21
Speaker 1: It is the state's rights. It's the state's duty to
• 18:25
Speaker 1: put on elections. So editorial comment on my part there,
• 18:32
Speaker 1: I say, great job Secretary of State Chris Warner, and
• 18:36
Speaker 1: he will join Wilson Meadows coming up on talk line
• 18:40

Speaker 1: and others are there, and I referenced it a little
• 19:22
Speaker 1: bit earlier, and I'm going to get to that a
• 19:25
Speaker 1: little bit more when we come back from the break.
• 19:27
Speaker 1: And Wilson and Meadows are live at the Capitol, coming
• 19:30
Speaker 1: up a talk line at ten oh six. We'll try
• 19:32
Speaker 1: to check in with them as well. Although I did
