- 0:00Speaker 1: Again to set the scene for you on this deal. Uh,
- 0:04Jerry Uh does a couple of things and it really
- 0:08aggravates some media people. I've noticed whenever he speaks after
- 0:12every Cowboy game win or lose, and he does he does,
- 0:17it aggravates some folks in the media.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Soide don't understand it. No, no owner does this, no
- 0:21other owner.
- 0:22Speaker 3: No.
- 0:22Speaker 1: But he's also the general manager, so he's also speaking
- 0:26from the GM spot. That never really bothered me that much.
- 0:28Jerry is Jerry. Jerry's gonna Jerry. He's just gonna be
- 0:32himself and do that.
- 0:35Speaker 2: But this was what he had to say on Sunday. First,
- 0:40we give you this.
- 0:42Speaker 1: When a reporter is asking him if he has gone
- 0:47through his mind hypothetically, because Jerry likes say hypothetically fundamentally,
- 0:52he likes to use those terms a lot.
- 0:55Speaker 2: What was the term he used, A training camp? They
- 0:56said over and over on that is state of the team.
- 0:59Speaker 1: That draws new Yeah, it wasn't a hypothetically. I'm sure
- 1:04I'll think about it. It'll it'll come to it come
- 1:08to us.
- 1:08Speaker 2: But Uh, a.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Reporter who wasn't I don't think was trying to be
- 1:13a smart Alec was just asking him if he has
- 1:16gone through this process in his mind about consideration of
- 1:20making a change but the head coaching.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Jerry did not like the question. In hears his response to.
- 1:25Speaker 4: Evaluate making a head coaching change in season.
- 1:28Speaker 5: I haven't considered that. I'm not considering that. So you're clear,
- 1:32I'm not considering that. I wouldn't be a hypothetical in
- 1:35that matter. Do you think I'm an idiot?
- 1:38Speaker 2: Do you?
- 1:39Speaker 3: Okay?
- 1:40Speaker 5: Well, I'm not gonna hypothetical with you about what I'd
- 1:42consider coaching change, and a lot of the timing we're
- 1:46sitting here with I'm not at all.
- 1:51Speaker 1: So so there it is. That was Sunday. I'm not
- 1:54gonna hypothetical with you, is what he said. Then I'm
- 1:58not gonna hypothetical with you. So it was a little
- 2:01on edge for that. On Tuesdays, Tuesday mornings, he is
- 2:08on one O five three the Fan, and I'm sure
- 2:14he's well compensated for that appearance, and he was on
- 2:21with their morning hosts and this was how their conversation
- 2:26went with him and what he had to say about it,
- 2:29And you could tell he begins to get unhappy with
- 2:33his regular weekly hosts who have him on.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Jerry.
- 2:40Speaker 6: You know there's been a lot of talk about execution.
- 2:42I think you mentioned it here already. If the execution
- 2:46has become a problem to the extent that you get
- 2:48losses like the ones against New Orleans and Detroit, why
- 2:51are those players still the right ones for your team?
- 2:55Speaker 3: Well, first of all, where are you gonna go to
- 2:57get any players? Seriously, where you going to go to
- 3:00get any players for the next week in San Francisco? Now?
- 3:06Number one, I've seen these players. I've seen every one
- 3:09of them execute like you want the players to be
- 3:13executed and do their job within the role. That didn't
- 3:17happen the other day, and we've paid the consequences for us,
- 3:20But I've seen the players do it. I know we
- 3:23have outstanding personnel, very outstanding personnel. We just made our
- 3:28quarterback to high paid player in the NFL. We've just
- 3:30hopped the receiver list charts. So we made our bed
- 3:34relative to how we're going to approach with our key
- 3:37people with the team. We were shorthanded out there on defense,
- 3:46but everybody gets short handed. That's really not an excuse
- 3:49in the NFL. Your depth should step up there and
- 3:53you should be able if you can to compensate to
- 3:56some degree. You can't compensate for the gap, so to speak,
- 4:02that we had between the where our offense played and
- 4:05the way we were supposed to play. And I only
- 4:07give Detroit a lot of.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Credit for that.
- 4:09Speaker 3: They came actress and got actress, and they put guys
- 4:12on top of every offensive lineman your head, and they came,
- 4:16came at it and put the kind of pressure that
- 4:20gave that a lot of problems and gave our running
- 4:23game lot of problems. We've got to be able.
- 4:24Speaker 2: To lift, Jared.
- 4:26Speaker 4: I think the counter back when you said, where are
- 4:27you going to get the players? You can't get them
- 4:29this week is and you're aware of all the off
- 4:31season topics.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Yeah, but what is your counter? What is your damn counter?
- 4:36My counter isn't want to know where you would go
- 4:39or go get it now. Don't tell me about should
- 4:42gotten a guy in the off season? Why not? This
- 4:44isn't a bad word argument just because I'm not arguing
- 4:47with you. I'm dealing with how we line up against
- 4:50San Francisco, not what I did wrong last week or
- 4:54last month, or two months ago or two years ago.
- 4:58If I really gave you guys a list of all
- 5:01the things I've done wrong over the last few years,
- 5:05you couldn't be on this program for the next five years.
- 5:08Steady and go over it. But every now and then
- 5:11you do some right things and at the end of
- 5:13the day you add it up and the rights give
- 5:16you a better spot than the wrongs. But if you
- 5:19think for any minute right now, there'll be one super
- 5:22Bowl champion, what do the others do wrong? There's one
- 5:25super Bowl champion now we want to be that champion.
- 5:29And I'm sure not going to tally in today because
- 5:32of what happened out there Sunday. But I'm not going
- 5:35to sit here and waste a lot of energy, a
- 5:37lot of time. Let's talk about what I should have
- 5:40done back in nineteen seven seven or nineteen two thousand
- 5:43and seven days had been Come on, come on, I've
- 5:46got more time than that. And I actually don't even
- 5:49have time on this great show for looking back at decisions.
- 5:55Speaker 4: Okay, So Jerry nineteen seventy a little different from this
- 5:59past off season in building the team we're talking about today,
- 6:03which there was a lot of criticism that you guys
- 6:06didn't add, didn't spend and don't add and don't spend
- 6:10and are not aggressive enough with some of the problems
- 6:12that are still haunting the Cowboys today that we see
- 6:15playing on the field.
- 6:16Speaker 2: That's the point of talking about the off season?
- 6:18Speaker 3: Oh oh, I remember those criticisms very well. Okay, so what.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Are they playing out to be accurate?
- 6:27Speaker 3: What's your point? What's your point? My point is it
- 6:31seems like, let me tell you what I'll do. Let
- 6:33me tell you what I'll do about it. I will
- 6:37let us sit down and look at the decisions we've
- 6:40made over the last several years. Okay, I'll look at
- 6:45it now. If you think I'm interested on a damn
- 6:49phone call with you over a radio and sitting here
- 6:54and throwing all the good at with the dishwater, you
- 6:58have got to be smoking something over there. I'm not,
- 7:02and I really don't, and I don't even want our
- 7:04listeners to listen to me to talk about this. Is
- 7:08not your job. Your job is to let me go
- 7:12over all the reasons that I did something and I'm
- 7:15sorry that I did it. That's not your job.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Well, my job is to ask.
- 7:21Speaker 3: My job or I'll get another I'll get somebody else
- 7:24to ask these questions.
- 7:25Speaker 4: Man, Jerry, We're just we're trying to figure out why
- 7:29the team is I'm.
- 7:30Speaker 3: Not kidding it. I'm not kidding it. You're not going
- 7:33to figure out it's what the team is doing right
- 7:37or wrong. If you are are any five or ten
- 7:41like you, you need to come to this meeting I'm
- 7:43going to today. There are thirty two teams. Here are
- 7:46your geniuses.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Yep, all right, so there, yeah, well, you know he
- 7:56did not want to have them say. He said, that's
- 7:59not your job to tell me what I'm doing. Well,
- 8:03sports media, that's that's what sports media does, especially the
- 8:07talk show world, and for those guys who are Shan
- 8:11cherff R J Chappi and Bobby Bell, the three guys
- 8:15who do it on one oh FI three the fan
- 8:17in Dallas. But the actual quote that he had there
- 8:21when he said, now, if you think I'm interested on
- 8:26a damn phone call with you over the radio and
- 8:29sitting here and throwing all the good out with the dishwater,
- 8:33you have got to be smoking something over this morning.
- 8:35I'm not, and I really don't, and I don't even
- 8:38want our listeners listening to me talk about this is
- 8:41not your job. Your job isn't to let me go
- 8:43over the reasons that I did something and I'm sorry
- 8:46that I did it. That's not your job. That's not
- 8:48your job. Or I'll get somebody else to ask these questions.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Man.
- 8:52Speaker 2: No, no, I'm not kidding. That's the part I'm talking about.
- 8:57Speaker 1: He's never been that, well for one of a better
- 9:02term threatening, he's never been that at the absolute edge
- 9:07of don't tell me this, or I'll find somebody else
- 9:10to do the deal with. Other people have within his
- 9:15organization of the years have done that. The most celebrated
- 9:18one was the Barry Switzer thing with Dale Hanson t
- 9:21even when they got into the actually physically pop in
- 9:24one another at training camp and it got real uncomfortable,
- 9:29and live television. There's been other things like that, you know,
- 9:35but you don't hear it from Jerry's side. When Brad
- 9:41Sham said in a preseason game, and Brad of course
- 9:45was my boss for seven years and friends, and if
- 9:47he were on this run, he would he would echo
- 9:49exactly what I said when because I heard him say
- 9:51it live at the time, bulletin, what Jerry Jones and
- 9:57the Cowboys tell you isn't always the truth or always accurate.
- 10:02I think what he said and you didn't hear Jerry
- 10:06respond to that, but Brad had a.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Meeting with the owner as a result of that.
- 10:13Speaker 1: So, uh, you know, we haven't heard Jerry publicly get
- 10:17real uncomfortable about Elsa. That was uncomfortable. He was, he
- 10:23was uncomfortable, and it was kind of a with the
- 10:27guys there because I think they realized the pushing envelope
- 10:33on the deal. So anyway, that's that's where it is,
- 10:37because things are not going well.
- 10:39Speaker 5: Now.
- 10:39Speaker 2: The team is three and three and they're a game.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Behind Washington and they're not you know, they're not in
- 10:44a bad way or whatever that sort of thing yet,
- 10:47but folks are forecasting really bad stuff down the road,
- 10:52like you damn, you're you're you're you feel that you're
- 10:56that that this team is staring a six game losing
- 10:58streak right down the barrel and could be three and
- 11:01eight the next time we look up. So it's going
- 11:04to be interesting to follow him, starting with a road
- 11:07trip to Santa Clara, coming off the bye week, going
- 11:10to San Francisco. So we'll see all that goes, and
- 11:13we'll continue to talk about it all right up next
- 11:15Inconceivable here on this Tuesday afternoon here on Sports Radio
- 11:19Am thirteen under the zone of the iHeartRadio app
