- Episode 8: I was thinking about the other day when I don't remember Christina actually said something in her In her language? In her language. And you laughed so hard you had just taken a sip of water and you sprayed all over the place. I put that Elephants: The start is a group chat called Elephants, which makes sense. Because we never forget and because nobody knows when to let it go. Episode 8: Welcome back guys to Raise Different. I'm Evan. I'm Shelly. Christina. Saudi. We're glad to have you back. today we're gonna talk a little bit about some embarrassing stories, which will be our elephant in the room. and then later we're gonna vote on who has the best embarrassing story. what's really fun is we're on a road trip right now. And so this is what we're doing to keep each other entertained while we drive down the road. yes. And awake. It's our favorite thing to do. Entertain each other. Yes, I love talking about embarrassing stories. So who's gonna start us off? Not it. Well start us off. Okay. I have many embarrassing stories in my life. We agree with this. Many. However, I feel like I've just found ways to laugh at myself. So some of them are just funny stories. I think we also said you've lived a lot of life. I've lived a lot of life, yes. I've lived a lot of life. so I had a recent embarrassing story. I don't know why these things always happen to me. But they do. Do they happen to you? I feel like this would happen to me. Okay. I mean our favorite questionable. Yeah. Our favorite saying, life's about choices. Yes. I was in my own home though, minding my own business. You're correct. My own business. Maybe you should just tell the story. Okay, so I was in my house. I was working from home. And I had to go take care of business. What does that mean? You know, the big business in the bathroom. Okay, so. Yes. I go take care of business. And as we've talked about in previous podcasts, we are an open door kind of family. So so I left the door open. And I'm sitting there using my squatty potty as we've talked about in previous podcasts. enjoying my time alone in the bathroom. Of course so I it was just me and my husband was home. He hadn't left for work yet. And something you need to know about my husband is he has a nurse that comes by twice a week and I usually know that the nurse is there because he rings the doorbell and the door is usually open in the front living room. And when I went to the bathroom none of that had happened. J so I'm sitting here taking care. What You knew the nurse was coming. Actually I didn't know the nurse was coming. okay. Keep going. I I don't keep track of the schedule so I don't always know when he's coming. 'Cause he comes different days, different times. Okay. I'll allow it. Okay, thank you. Thank you. So I'm sitting here and all of a sudden I hear my husband's voice. And then I hear another voice. And I was like, my gosh, what is that voice? And I look over and here is my husband walking down the hallway with his nurse while I'm sitting on the toilet taking care of business. And I'm like, I was I was so shocked in that moment that I couldn't I couldn't even make a sound. I was just like waving my hands like Shut the door! Shut the door! Shut the door! Are you too far away from the door to reach it? Yeah, I would have had I would have had to like and and my pants are around my ankles, which is weird. So like I would have had to get up off the toilet and like shuffle to the door to shut it. I think that would have made more more of a commotion commotion if I had done that. So Draw more attention to the And he was walking him out, right? Yeah, he was walking him out. So like I he was walking down the hallway and you have to look to your left to see me. But it's a clear shot. Yeah it's a clear shot. It is a clear shot. There is no missing me sitting on the toilet. If he had just like turned his head slightly, he would have seen the full shot of Shelly. A lot of pasty white sign. A lot. A lot of thigh. So I am like making these gestures to Mark and he's he's finally like like he puts his hand up like just stop and he just quietly keeps the guy moving to the door and lets him out and I'm just sitting there. No one's the wiser. Mortified. Like mortified. And like he he walks in and I was like, how did he even get in the house? This is what you get for having an open door policy. Well if you had a closed door policy this would not happen to you. Yes I immediately texted my best friend and I was like my gosh this just happened and she She texted me back and she was like, Why did you have the door open? Yes. Why do you need that freedom? Like maybe you don't need that level of freedom. Just close the dang door. I was like, why not? Nobody was home. So he thought. So I thought. So apparently what happened was my husband My husband was in the garage and had the garage door open and the nurse shows up and so he just lets into the garage door. While I was in my office working and I didn't hear anything, and he lets them in the bedroom and they do their stuff, whatever they do. I don't know what they do. And then he lets them out the front door. I was like, a little warning. So Friday the nurse came again and I was in a meeting. And my husband came in the room and he knocks on the door and he goes, Hey, hey, my nurse is coming. And I turned around and I said thank you for the warning. I appreciate that. So yeah, so I think what lesson did you learn, Shelly? to poop with the door closed. To poop with the door closed or at least at least make the spare bathroom door. At least the spare bathroom. Yeah, at least in my but it was the spare bath communicate in the house. Yeah, or like yell out, hey, is anybody in the house? Whether he would have said no and then come in like five minutes later. Like the nurse. my gosh. Yeah. Yeah. It was bad. You were lucky you didn't walk him right through the living room because that would have been that would have been a clear shot. Yeah. He would have seen you. I would have loved that face. god. my gosh, yeah, so yeah, that that just happened. this week I think, right? 'Cause we got a text soon after. Yeah, I think it was Monday. Yeah. Yeah. Classic Shelly. Classic Shelly. Things just happen. If nobody's walked in on you, poopy. Have you even lived your life? Have you even lived your life? I don't feel like I've lived and I'm okay with it. I had to know this one was on a bucket list. I mean, yeah, it's on the bucket list. That's pretty funny. Alright, story number one down. Okay, I got mine. Okay. Alright, so this one time at Bank. Not at Bank. Okay. I was out visiting my sister and her family. That's funny when we all go, yeah. And one of the mornings we got up really early, like 5 a.m. run my first half marathon. Yeah. you know packing my suitcase because I was flying back home that same that same day so later that day so I packed up my stuff I'm going down the stairs lights off lights off because I didn't want to wake anybody in the house was trying to be you know meanwhile we were all going to the same place so we were all awake probably some people in the house were not awake so I was trying to be mindful and so I get down to the stairs, bottom of the stairs, or so I thought, and I didn't realize I wasn't at the bottom, and I took that final step with the suitcase in your hand. With the suitcase in my hand and tumbled into the wall, face plant. I was wearing glasses, so I ended up with this, I still have a scar on my face to remember this moment. off to this race. Yes, with a cut in your face. Bloody and off. It probably needed stitches off. It probably did need stitches. Stitches. But there was no way. The glasses did survive actually. They did, but I had to like bend them back a little bit. Yes, her glasses can survive a fall down the stairs. But not her nose. Well, I was gonna say, but not just being in her possession for more than twenty-four hours. I forgot about that story. I forgot that story. For anyone that knows, Christina got new glasses and couldn't keep them longer than twenty-four hours. She lost them. Yes. Twenty four hours after getting brand new glasses. After waiting like six months for them. Yes. Yes, it was a big ordeal. This wasn't meant to be for that pair. Nope. we proceed to the race and yeah I have blood coming down side of my face. My sister was like, you know, you should really go to the clinic and get this fixed and I was like, no no no. We've trained too hard. I have a half marathon to ride. so yeah, that that was it. Every time I wipe my face there's some blood. Blood and not sweat. Good time. So what lesson did you learn there, Christina? Yeah. Just wake everybody up. Yeah. Yeah, because did you succeed in not waking everybody up? No, I'm pretty sure they hurt her head hit the wall. The thud. Yeah. You didn't leave a blood mark on her wall? I know, I probably did. A dent? From that big old magin? No, it was pretty bad. I think you sent us pictures of that. Yeah. It was bad. You probably did need stitches. That's when I asked you what's wrong with your face. What's wrong with our face? That's pretty funny. See, this is how we normalize these types of comments. Yes. It's true. Stuck around. Audio. It was hard to think of a embarrassing story. It was hard to think of an embarrassing story. In her defense, she's got twenty less years on us. Says the person that gets an embarrassing story every other day. Wow, Christina. Shame. Shame. That was a little harsh. Thanks. Yeah, my back. Yeah, I got your back girl. but I could think of one and it happened actually in a previous episode. if you know me or my mom, we say some questionable things. Weird things. I think questionable's not the right word. I think off just Just wrong. Just wrong. Yeah. Okay. Is it wrong? And I let her know I think especially if you understand what we're saying. I feel like we've learned to speak whatchaease, whatever that is. We've we've learned to speak all of that. Our language? Yes. Yes. Okay. Well anyways. in a previous episode I had I don't even know what we were talking about but who knows? Yeah, who knows? I said bedside table manners and I really just meant table manners. Not bedside manner. Yeah, and I just combined the two phrases. Mm-hmm. And I knew what I meant. That's all it meant. And you just gotta roll with the punches. Whatever that one went, right? she sure did. Roll with the punches. See, I got that one. See? But it's all with confidence, guys. It is said with extreme confidence. Yep. And then when we ask you to repeat it, sometimes y'all won't. You're like, huh. Which is annoying. I know. Because I don't want you to go out in the wild and say stuff like that. Yeah. Don't I But it doesn't embarrass me per se. What? What? It doesn't embarrass me. Well because you're saying it in a very safe place where we will shame you relentlessly until it's fixed. Does that make it safe? I don't know. Yes, of course that makes it safe. Yeah, it's just like us making fun for sh fun of Shelly for forgetting where her hotel room was. That's why I tried not to tell y'all. You tried so hard. Never let me forget. No. That's why we're elephants. I know. Just hold on to the Never forget. Never let it go. Never let it go. That's right. And I'm sure I will say a lot more phrases that aren't right. we can only hope. Yes. Give us some more content, Sadia. Please. Christina and Sadi, yes, they They're just like a plethora. With their powers combined. Bottomless pit of content. So much. my gosh. I can't wait. I love Okay, so there's been moments where we've all been together and I feel like they one of them wants to say something and they look at each other 'cause they know it's not gonna be right. Yeah, they're like checking in. They have a whole mental conversation. Yeah. Is that one of our in their eyes they're like don't say it it's wrong whatever's coming next wrong it's wrong it's great I love it and sometimes it doesn't even stop us we continue to say it it'll be weenay and eggs all over it This is gonna be on my What Did You Learn New This Year list. Winnah it is. I now know what winet and eggs Yes. Let's say it very French. Win A. I can't say it unless they do like And one day one day we'll have merch for sale and we'll sell stickers of winet and eggs. Winet. Win. So if you're practicing at home, do the Italian hand. Winate. It's the only way to do it, right? Last but not least You got a story for us? I do. I I hope it's a good one. I had to rack my brain too, and I feel like this is a story I'll know, so I'm gonna go all the way back to high school. fun. All the way back to high school you don't have anything I mean I do have more recent ones, but this one I feel like it really takes the cake. I f it I think it's a good one. I if you don't think so I'll tell the other story that I think you want me to tell, but I'll I'm gonna tell this one first. But I think I've told this to y'all before. So when I was in high school I was in ColorGuard. flags but we also Rifles and they're just pieces of wood, they're not like ROTC rifles, they're just they look kind of rifle-esque. And I had practiced a lot to make sure that I could balance that and you know, like march and all the fun stuff you do in ColorGuard. Well, my brother at the time, who's three years older than me, was outside at our house, was outside working on he had a Volkswagen bug at the time. If you've ever been around Volkswagens, they have this huge net on the back of the engine that requires a really big wrench, like large wrench. Like, I don't know, this big. I don't know how that nobody can see that. I know, so what, like two and a half feet? Yeah, ish, maybe two feet. It's big and it's really heavy. Okay. and I was inside the house and I should paint the picture. I was it I don't forget, I went to high school in the nineties. in at that time low rise jeans and cut off shirts were big, which is not much different than now, right? But ultra low rise. and cut off I had a cut off white t shirt on and on top of that I was inside. So like I was at home so I was comfortable. If if you're a lady you know what I'm talking about. White T shirt comfortable. yeah. And my brother was like, Hey, can you come help me with something real quick? And I said, Sure. So I walked outside in my jeans and my white T shirt barefoot And I had to hold this wrench on some part of the car while he did something. So I held it and then he was like, alright, take it off and just stand there for a second. So while I was standing there, I had a two foot wrench in my hand that felt kinda like a rifle and I decided it was a good idea to start swirling. Yeah. And I was successful a couple times. And the last time I was not. It's always the last time. no. And I dropped it square in between my big toe and the next one down. And those wrenches are sharp and it went right through the web part of my toe. And of course, what did I do? I screamed like a little girl and I remember my brother was telling me he he kept saying, Sit down I was like, I can't I was just like immobilized from from the thought of what had just happened. my gosh. And The house was completely like the garage was open, the front door was not open like we had a screen door, but it was open. We had the music turned all the way up. I mean it looked like we were having a house party, just me and him. And so he ran inside and he grabbed what brothers would grab, which is a roll of paper towels and a whole thing of black electrical tape. And what? Yeah. And he Pulled all the paper towels off the roll and wrapped it around my foot, wrapped my whole foot with black electrical tape, and by this time I have grease all over my hands, all over my thighs. I'm pretty sure on my shirt. Like I it by the time so he look he carries me to our truck and he drives us to the hospital, which is really close to where we used to live. And by the time I get to the ER, I have grease all over me. I don't know how, but It might have been because he carried me, I'm not really sure. But imagine I walked in in ultra low rise jeans in a white t shirt where I was very comfortable with grease all over, barefoot. boy. And I'm sure at this point my hair is a mess too. And to add insult to injury, two weeks prior I had already been to that same ER because at school I had been actually trolling my rifle and caught it in my upper left like eyebrow and needed several stitches in my upper left eyebrow. And so they bring me into the one of the rooms in the ER and the doctor came up and he was like, I recognize you. in all your grease. And all my grease. It's like, I recognize you. Weren't you just in here? And I was like, sure was. I guess I can't learn to stop trolling stuff. Yeah. It was it was not the shiniest moment for me. What lesson did you learn? stop trolling stuff. I th I don't think I trolled anything else I wasn't supposed to after that. Flags, rifles, sabers, those were fine. Wrenches, not a good idea. Not a good idea? Nope. Is that good enough story? You want the sausage pants story. Sausage pants? Sausage pants? Sausage pants. Sausage pants. I don't think I know this one. Really sad you? Yeah. Okay. I can tell the sausage pan story. Let's hear it. evan: Hey, quick pause before we jump back in. If you're enjoying what you're hearing, hit that follow button on whatever platform you're listening. And if something we've talked about resonated with you, share this with someone who needs to hear it. Now, let's jump back in. Episode 8: I could tell another story. Okay. Yes. If I tell another story, Shelley, it's up to you to tell another story. Yeah, I've got you know, a couple more in my reserves. Yes. Okay, so we had a big project at work that required all hands on deck, which means at lunchtime every day we we were all lunching together. It was very communal, I feel like very really brought our team together. It was great. And the reason I tell you that story is because we all got these matching shirts, and every time I wore that matching shirt, I wore these light khaki pants. Very light. Yes. set the stakes. Yeah. Light khaki pants. That's that's an important part of the story. So we're at lunch, and this day I decided to bring a sausage. And I didn't have a plate. A whole sausage. A whole sausage. A sausage. I brought a sausage. You know, like a sausage link. Yeah. Okay. Like a single link. Okay. I think I brought sausage or broccoli. I remember at that time sausage and broccoli were like my jam. So and I brought them all in one Rubbermaid container. Uh-huh. And no plate. No plate. I forgot a plate and we didn't have any in the office. So I used the lid. And it's so like inventive. She just uses the lid. That's a word. Inventive. Yes. So I decided to use the lid as my plate. I heat everything up and I go to sit down with everybody and I pull out, you know, the fork and knife and I went to stab the sausage. And what do you think happened? It it didn't stab. And it rolled off the lid on to my thigh. And let me tell you it Hit in a perfect spot. god. Like imagine the worst position for a sausage to hit on your inner thigh, and that's what it happened. And sausage, mind you. Huh? Was it the grease? Yeah. It was the grease. Yeah. The greasy sausage left a perfect sausage print on my life pants. Perfect sausage print. Yes. On the pants. Yes. It was it was the worst. And then What did you have to do after this lunch? So so this big project I'm talking about required training. So I was in a I was training people all day. Morning to end of the day. So you had to go stand in front of people. So I had to get up in front of a training class with a big old sausage print on my inner thigh. But instead of being super embarrassed because I feel like I'm the type to lean in. Embarrassment. Right. I just went up to the front of the classroom and said, all right, look at it. It happened. my sausage rolled into my lap. It looked Yeah. And then we went on went on with class. Just take a good hard look at it. Look at it. Yeah. It was my way to just Move on. Call out the call out the elephant in the room. Call out the elephant in the room. It's only weird if you make it weird. Call it out. Make it It fine. It'll be okay. Okay. I have two I have two more stories that I can share. Okay. I'm I think we're all here for it. Okay. Yeah. So we got plenty of time in the car, so tell away, Shelly. So if you go back and listen to my Lost at Disney story, you know that when I'm when I'm with other people and I know that they are I like I don't always have to You turn your brain off. Be responsible. Okay. Be responsible. Yeah, be irresponsible, yes. So what did you say? Nothing. I'll go back and listen then. Okay. She's gonna cut it out. So there was one grab a bite to eat and they knew where they were going. I was I was with two other people. Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute. What? How many times had you been down to this place? Many, many times. Okay. I knew where I was like what like roundabout number. Couple times a week. A couple times a week for the last ten years. Yeah. Yep. Okay. Okay, so I mean I knew where I was going. So it's not like I was lost. Allegedly. Allegedly. I knew where I was going. So we were walking down there and I I think I think what happened was What had happened was. As the door was opening, something caught my eye and I looked behind me. As you you were still walking. I was still walking. And when I turned around, my gosh, there was a door open in front of me. And I ran smack dab. into that door into the edge of the door into the edge of the like what two inch edge of the door frame I ran right into the edge of the door like my nose met the edge of that door I think if I had walked any faster I would have broken my nose good thing you don't walk fast the room yeah good thing I don't walk fast the room was full of people Yep. Yep. And clear door. Well, the door was open. Like s somebody would open the door. Yeah, it was propped open. Yeah, and I I wouldn't She didn't walk she didn't walk into the like the the wide part of the door. She literally walked into the edge of the door. Yeah. my gosh. So I decided whatever I was going down. Where with her nose. Yeah, whatever I was going down there for I did not need. I turned around and just waited for them to finish and lift. Yes, another moment where it's like, Shelley, are you okay? I was fine. My nose hurt for like a week. That ego was after that. My ego was not fine. But you know, I've just learned to laugh about things. My life is funny. That's the only way to live life. My life is funny. People people have I have lots of stories to tell. Just ask me a funny story. Tell us one more. Yeah, I have one more. So I mean we don't have just one more, but this is yeah. But this is this is a I think this is a good one to end with. So when I was pregnant bringing it back. Listen to this, Sadia. Sadia's already laughing. So when I was pregnant, I think I think I was pregnant with my first. I had the worst Heartburn. And when I when I was pregnant with that terrible heartburn, I also got this terrible cough. It was like this barky kind of cough. It was like golem. It it was like gollum. That's what we used to used to be like that. So I had terrible heartburn, I had this cough, and then if I started laughing, it got even worse. So I was the heartburn the cough? The cough. Yes. Okay. Yes. All of it. If I remember right, the cough is because of the heartburn. The cough is because of the heartburn. Yeah. But then if I would laugh, the cough would get worse. It w it was just like a repetitive cycle. I walked around with a Costco sized bottle of Tums in my purse for my entire first pregnancy. I don't think I ever laid down for my pregnancy at all. Okay, so anyways, I'm sitting at the table, lots of friends sitting around, we're eating We're laughing. Ha ha ha ha ha ha. Something was said and it was hilarious and I just start laughing. And then I start coughing and I can't stop coughing. And the next thing I know, I am throwing up. And and I was like, my gosh, I can't believe this is happening. And like I'm catching it in my hand at the table. At the table. my gosh. And I was like, my gosh. And like back away from the table real quick and I'm like, maybe nobody saw And I just like I get up from the table real quick and I go to the bathroom and I clean myself up and then I go sit back down to this table like Nothing happened. Maybe they didn't see anything. we totally saw. Yeah. I think I was sitting right across from you. No, I totally saw. You were either you were either right next to me. Evan wasn't really my friend yet. She didn't like me yet. That is an internal perception, not if you tell the truth. So she didn't say anything. She didn't Shelly had strong RBS like Me? Yes. Yes, you had the F off look like like nailed. I this was me? No, I didn't say it was you. You just have the look. I'm such a sweet person. my god, here we go. gosh. She tells herself to sleep at night. Yeah. I don't know why you would think. my god, you know, as you were telling that story, I was thinking about the other day when I don't remember Christina actually said something in her In her language? In her language. And you laughed so hard you had just taken a sip of water and you you sprayed all over the place. I put that all over. Was it red leather, yellow leather? It was it was red leather. Red leather yellow leather. Seriously, if you're listening, try it. It's hard. Red leather, yellow leather. red leather yellow leather Shelly do red leather yellow leather Christine I want to hear you red yellow Saudi, can you do it? Red leather, yellow leather. Red leather, leather leather. Yes. Yeah. Christina tried Christina tried to say that and I don't know why. It just tickled me and I sprayed water everywhere. You had just taken a drink. I did. I did. It was hilarious. I mean So herd herd vote? Who has the who has the most embarrassing? Huh? Are we saying who has the most embarrassing? Yeah, or just the best story, I think is the best story? Yeah. I say Shelly. I'm going with Shelly. Yeah, I vote Shelley too. Shelly, you wanna vote yourself? Is it unanimous? I mean Anonymous? I don't I don't It's not synonymous, but it's unanimous. There we go, there's another one. You were right, Sadia. You got two now. Recorded. Did you decide? I don't know. Am I allowed to vote for myself? You can be the right. Is that ethical? I think it's only fair. I'll just let y'all vote for me. It's anonymous. It's anonymous. I'll vote for myself then. Alright y'all, let us know in the chat. What you think? Who has a story? Or share some of your own embarrassment story. yes do. We'd love to hear that.
