- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo! I'm Lucas, and this is Luna. Luna: Hey everyone! I'm ready for another episode. What are we learning today? Lucas: Today we're going to learn how to offer help and ask for help in Swahili. It's a really useful skill, especially when you're out and about. Luna: Oh, that's great! I always want to help people, but I never know what to say. Lucas: Well, today you'll learn. Let's start with a simple question: 'Unahitaji msaada?' That means 'Do you need help?' Lucas: Listen again: Unahitaji msaada? Luna: Unahitaji msaada? Lucas: Yes! That's perfect. 'Unahitaji' means 'you need', and 'msaada' means 'help'. Luna: So if I see someone struggling with a bag, I can ask them that? Lucas: Exactly. Now let's try a response. If you want to say 'I can help you', you say 'Naweza kukusaidia.' Lucas: Naweza kukusaidia. Luna: Naweza kukusaidia. Lucas: Nice! 'Naweza' means 'I can', and 'kukusaidia' means 'help you'. Luna: That's a mouthful, but I think I got it. So I could say 'Unahitaji msaada? Naweza kukusaidia.' Lucas: You could, and you'd sound very polite. You know, it's conversations like this that make me appreciate how generous our listeners are. Luna: What do you mean? Lucas: Well, making these episodes takes time and effort. A small group of listeners helps keep us ad-free by supporting us through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Oh, that's true. It means we can focus on teaching without any interruptions. And we're really grateful for that. Lucas: Absolutely. Now, back to helping. There's another way to offer: 'Nikusaidie?' This is like 'Shall I help you?' Lucas: Nikusaidie? Luna: Nikusaidie? Lucas: Great. So you have three options now. And finally, if someone helps you, you say 'Asante kwa msaada.' That's 'Thanks for help.' Lucas: Asante kwa msaada. Luna: Asante kwa msaada. That's easy! Asante is 'thanks', and msaada is 'help'. Lucas: Exactly. Let's put it all together. Imagine I'm carrying a heavy box. You ask, 'Unahitaji msaada?' And I say, 'Ndiyo, tafadhali.' Then you say, 'Naweza kukusaidia.' After I set it down, I say, 'Asante kwa msaada.' Luna: Let me try that. Unahitaji msaada? Naweza kukusaidia. Asante kwa msaada. Luna: This is so useful. I feel like I can actually help someone now. Lucas: That's the goal. Practice these phrases, and next time you see someone in need, you'll be ready. Thanks for joining us on Fexingo. Luna: See you next time! Kwaheri!
