- 0:03Good morning. This is the Sacramento Brief, your
- 0:08weekday roundup of overnight headlines and what's
- 0:11ahead across the city. I'm Carol. It's Monday,
- 0:15August 10th, 2026. Let's get you caught up. We
- 0:19begin with a wild pursuit through Sacramento
- 0:21County yesterday evening that ended with a crash,
- 0:23a pit maneuver, and a sheriff's canine taking
- 0:26down the suspect. The pursuit unfolded around
- 0:297 .30 p .m. Sunday night and reportedly stretched
- 0:31across multiple areas with at least one collision
- 0:34along the way. It eventually came to an end near
- 0:37Gloria and Rush River Drives. where law enforcement
- 0:41successfully used a pit maneuver to stop the
- 0:43fleeing vehicle. The suspect was then bitten
- 0:46by a law enforcement canine while being taken
- 0:49into custody. No additional information has been
- 0:52released regarding the suspect's condition or
- 0:54what initially prompted the pursuit. Elsewhere
- 0:57in Sacramento, where a domestic violence call
- 1:01turned into a barricade situation Saturday afternoon,
- 1:04Sacramento police responded to the 1 ,000 block
- 1:07of 43rd Avenue. Shortly after 1230 p .m., for
- 1:12reports of a domestic violence -related incident,
- 1:14police say the suspect, who had an outstanding
- 1:17felony warrant, barricaded themselves inside
- 1:20the residence and refused to surrender. Crisis
- 1:23negotiators and the department's SWAT team were
- 1:25deployed as officers worked to bring the situation
- 1:28to a peaceful conclusion. The suspect was ultimately
- 1:31arrested. And Sacramento police are investigating
- 1:35a shooting that happened in broad daylight on
- 1:37Friday afternoon. Officers responded around 2
- 1:40p .m. to the Shell gas station, the 5500 block,
- 1:44excuse me, the 5500 block of Martin Luther King
- 1:47Jr. Boulevard. Police found evidence of a shooting
- 1:51had occurred. But the suspect or suspects had
- 1:55already fled the scene before officers arrived.
- 1:57Fortunately, no injuries were reported and the
- 2:01investigation was conducted and police report
- 2:03generated. Today's weather. After last week's
- 2:08triple digit temperatures, Sacramento gets a
- 2:10bit of a break from the extreme heat today. Today

- 2:19hour with gusts possibly reaching 18 miles per

- 2:52think about when you look at your ballot. Whose
- 2:54name goes first? How do we get that list? Well,
- 2:57sometimes it comes down to a random draw. Sacramento
- 3:01County's voter registration and elections office
- 3:04will hold a randomized alphabet drawing this
- 3:07Thursday, August 13th at 11 a .m. The drawing
- 3:11helps determine the order in which the candidates'
- 3:14names will appear on the November 3rd election
- 3:16ballot. In certain contests involving Assembly
- 3:20and Senate districts that cross county lines,
- 3:23the drawing will take place at the Voter Registration
- 3:26Election Office at 7065th Street in Suite A in
- 3:32Sacramento. And if election procedure is your
- 3:36thing and you're simply always wondering how
- 3:39this stuff happens behind the scenes, the drawing
- 3:41is open to the public. So for more information
- 3:44about the November general election, it's available
- 3:47through the Sacramento County Voter Registration
