Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: My bookkeeper had been cutting himself two checks every single week.
- 0:03Speaker 2: He shows up drunk. Oh, gosh. Right. Not a little off.
- 0:08Speaker 3: Drunk.
- 0:09Speaker 4: Yeah, right.
- 0:09Speaker 5: He says, please hire my son so he can help
- 0:12Speaker 5: me pay for my new teeth.
- 0:14Speaker 2: He had it in a cup and was just trying
- 0:16Speaker 2: to make it.
- 0:17Speaker 4: Like a tumbler?
- 0:18Speaker 2: Yeah, like, you know.
- 0:19Speaker 4: That's what the closeted alcohol is to. Just some coffee.
- 0:22Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 0:23Speaker 2: This is The Bad Hire, the show with the best
- 0:25Speaker 2: stories about the worst employees.
- 0:28Speaker 1: We fired him, of course.
- 0:29Speaker 2: People are crazy.
- 0:30Speaker 5: It's like an HR nightmare.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Right? One bad hire stole all of it.
- 0:35Speaker 4: Crazy stuff. She got what she deserved.
- 0:38Speaker 6: Oh.
- 0:39Speaker 2: I'm your host, Ken Monroe, and every week we dive
- 0:42Speaker 2: into real-life stories from from the wild world of work
- 0:46Speaker 2: and what can happen when the wrong person gets the job.
- 0:50Speaker 2: These stories aren't just crazy. They're cautionary tales about lessons
- 0:54Speaker 2: learned the hard way. Let's get started. Hey, everyone, and
- 0:59Speaker 2: welcome back to The Bad Hire, the show where the
- 1:02Speaker 2: best stories about the... Worst hires. Worst hires come together.
- 1:10Speaker 2: And I'm joined by Morgan.
- 1:12Speaker 4: Hey, guys.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Yeah, and Emma.
- 1:14Speaker 4: Hi.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Welcome back. Awesome to have you. You guys always do
- 1:19Speaker 2: such a great job. We're the OGs.
- 1:22Speaker 5: Yep.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Do what?
- 1:23Speaker 4: This is the OG cast right here.
- 1:24Speaker 2: You are OGs. Yep.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Oh, my God.
- 1:27Speaker 5: Every episode does not perform as well unless us two
- 1:30Speaker 5: are on it. I'm just going to say.
- 1:31Speaker 4: It's a common denominator. I'm just kidding.
- 1:35Speaker 2: So... Yeah, I think that might be right. It doesn't
- 1:38Speaker 2: matter if I'm on there or not. It just really
- 1:41Speaker 2: matters who's on the couch.
- 1:46Speaker 4: Oh, man.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Yeah, you know the drill. Every week we dive into
- 1:50Speaker 2: the wildest, weirdest, and most jaw-dropping hiring fails from offices,
- 1:56Speaker 2: job sites, organizations all over the country. And don't forget
- 2:00Speaker 2: we're running that $ 10, 000 contest. So submit your story. You know,
- 2:05Speaker 2: who knows? Everyone who hires people has a story. So
- 2:09Speaker 2: you can send it in, shoot your shot, chance to
- 2:14Speaker 2: win $ 10, 000. All right. So I don't know.
- 2:19Speaker 5: It's the easiest way to win $ 10, 000 I've ever heard of.
- 2:22Speaker 5: So might as well try.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Take 10 minutes, jot your story down. Can you imagine
- 2:27Speaker 2: your 10 minutes, you put your story down and the
- 2:30Speaker 2: next thing you know.
- 2:32Speaker 4: Gosh, I should probably drop down a story or two.
- 2:34Speaker 2: You get a bonus, 10,000 bucks. Yeah.
- 2:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:36Speaker 4: Me and Emma would love to enter if we could,
- 2:38Speaker 4: but we can't.
- 2:40Speaker 2: It's the 27th show.
- 2:42Speaker 1: It is.
- 2:43Speaker 4: It's crazy.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Yeah. We've learned a lot. Yeah. We have. I was
- 2:48Speaker 2: thinking about how we started.
- 2:49Speaker 4: Changed studios.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Down to the studios in Charlotte.
- 2:53Speaker 5: Changed filming rooms in our own office. Created our own studio.
- 2:55Speaker 5: It's been kind of crazy.
- 2:56Speaker 1: I think our one-year anniversary is... This July or August?
- 3:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:01Speaker 1: I think.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Yep.
- 3:03Speaker 4: Craziness.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Yeah, that's awesome. All right. How about this? I'll start
- 3:07Speaker 2: it off. Okay. So, I'm an HR director at an
- 3:15Speaker 2: inpatient psychiatric and substance abuse treatment center. Okay. Okay. Normal Monday.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Running new hiring orientation, new contractor coming in.
- 3:26Speaker 5: Mm-hmm.
- 3:28Speaker 2: He shows up drunk. Oh, gosh.
- 3:30Speaker 4: Right.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Not a little. Not a little off. Drunk.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Right. At an addiction treatment facility.
- 3:41Speaker 1: We get a lot of stories like these.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Or, like, people show up to a job. They're like, yeah,
- 3:46Speaker 1: I don't like talking on the phone.
- 3:48Speaker 4: It's either my angel center.
- 3:49Speaker 2: This dude shows up to a treatment center as a
- 3:52Speaker 2: contractor to do some work. He shows up drunk.
- 3:55Speaker 5: Wow. Yeah.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Like maybe that, you know, these treatment center people, they
- 3:58Speaker 2: would never notice a drunk person. Right. So we pull
- 4:02Speaker 2: him aside and give him a reasonable suspicion alcohol test.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Yeah. Also.
- 4:07Speaker 4: As he should.
- 4:08Speaker 2: He blows high. High enough that she's genuinely concerned.
- 4:12Speaker 5: Oh.
- 4:13Speaker 2: So we wait the required 30 minutes.
- 4:15Speaker 1: How did he even get there?
- 4:16Speaker 2: Sorry. I interrupted you.
- 4:17Speaker 6: Did you drink a lot?
- 4:18Speaker 1: How did he get there?
- 4:19Speaker 4: You drink a lot. Oh, like how did he drive there?
- 4:21Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 4:22Speaker 5: Oh.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Good question.
- 4:22Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:25Speaker 2: He drove over. His mother dropped him off.
- 4:26Speaker 4: Or he's like, I got drunk in the parking lot.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:29Speaker 4: Pre-gaming work, if you will.
- 4:31Speaker 2: That will totally be true. So we wait the required
- 4:34Speaker 2: 30 minutes and we retest him. He blows higher. Because
- 4:41Speaker 2: in that 30-minute window, he had been drinking at his orientation.
- 4:47Speaker 2: while being supervised, while we were standing right there. Oh
- 4:50Speaker 2: my gosh, why even though?
- 4:51Speaker 5: Well, also, it takes longer to get into your system,
- 4:54Speaker 5: so he could have, maybe he did drink in the
- 4:56Speaker 5: parking lot, and then it was just.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Oh, she's saying he was drinking at his orientation.
- 5:00Speaker 4: Okay, well, geez.
- 5:01Speaker 2: I guess he was, he had it in a cup
- 5:03Speaker 2: and was just trying to make it.
- 5:05Speaker 4: Like a tumbler?
- 5:06Speaker 2: Yeah, like, hey, you know.
- 5:07Speaker 4: That's what the closeted alcoholics do. Just some coffee. Yeah, right.
- 5:12Speaker 2: We had him gone before lunch. Yeah. The job posting
- 5:16Speaker 2: never said, Must be sober. But I really thought that
- 5:20Speaker 2: was implied.
- 5:21Speaker 1: You would think.
- 5:22Speaker 5: Gosh, you would think people would have the common sense
- 5:26Speaker 5: to not also just show up to work drunk in general.
- 5:29Speaker 2: I wonder how many people in the HR space have
- 5:36Speaker 2: had somebody show up drunk to an interview. I bet
- 5:39Speaker 2: it is a crazy amount.
- 5:41Speaker 1: I mean, we've told a lot of stories like that.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Drunk or impaired. We'll just say drunk or impaired. I
- 5:45Speaker 2: can guarantee there's been a time when they sat down
- 5:48Speaker 2: and you're like, ooh, the whiff of that weed.
- 5:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Are you high right now?
- 5:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Emma, were you high on your first?
- 5:58Speaker 4: Oh, that's a weird question to ask.
- 6:01Speaker 1: No?
- 6:01Speaker 2: No, I was just checking.
- 6:03Speaker 4: Okay.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Seemed like the thing to do. Before we dive back
- 6:06Speaker 2: into the chaos on the bad hire, this episode is
- 6:09Speaker 2: brought to you by B-Checks. Hiring shouldn't feel like rolling
- 6:12Speaker 2: the dice. Background checks should come with great tech, seamless integration,
- 6:16Speaker 2: and customer service that delivers. That's B-Checks. Lightning-fast results, unmatched accuracy,
- 6:23Speaker 2: built-in fraud prevention. We help you hire the right people.

- 6:33Speaker 2: your background checks run smooth, fast, and backed by top-level service.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Protect your team. Protect your reputation. Protect your sanity. Go
- 6:42Speaker 2: to bchex.io. That's B-C-H-E-X dot I-O.
- 6:49Speaker 5: Well, before we move on to my telling stories, we
- 6:51Speaker 5: should watch our video that we have from sent in
- 6:53Speaker 5: by Tom.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Oh, Tom. Yeah. All right. What you got? Marcus, let
- 7:00Speaker 2: it roll.
- 7:02Speaker 6: Let's say we have a negative Nelly's and we are saying,
- 7:05Speaker 6: let's try to fix them. Let's turn them around because
- 7:07Speaker 6: obviously we'd like to see it. We hired them. There's
- 7:09Speaker 6: a little bit of confirmation bias. We want to believe
- 7:11Speaker 6: that this person's right because we hired them. So I
- 7:14Speaker 6: want to introduce you to a guy named Han. Han
- 7:16Speaker 6: is in your sales department. Han always hits his metrics.
- 7:20Speaker 6: He adds more clients, high profit margin, top salesperson. So far,
- 7:26Speaker 6: I'm kind of like, sign me up for more Hans.
- 7:28Speaker 5: I'm in.
- 7:29Speaker 6: I'm liking the idea of Han. But then you also
- 7:31Speaker 6: find out that Han spreads gossip. Han steals clients from
- 7:35Speaker 6: your other salespeople. Han has a negative attitude. Han won't
- 7:39Speaker 6: work with anyone else. So we've isolated him to a
- 7:41Speaker 6: virtual office and he doesn't come to any meetings. What
- 7:45Speaker 6: are we going to do with that Han? Because that's
- 7:47Speaker 6: one type of a negative Nelly. The super high performer,
- 7:51Speaker 6: but when it comes to contribution, they're very negative. Their
- 7:55Speaker 6: competency is really high, but their contribution is super low.
- 7:58Speaker 6: But then you have the reverse. You have the person
- 8:01Speaker 6: who loves the company, can recite every core value, will
- 8:05Speaker 6: high-five you on the way in. At every company off-site retreat,
- 8:10Speaker 6: they're the first one there. But They're always late on
- 8:12Speaker 6: their work. They submit work that needs to be redone
- 8:15Speaker 6: by someone else. There's spelling errors in the newsletter. So
- 8:18Speaker 6: their contribution is really high, but their competency is really low.
- 8:22Speaker 6: So we meet the second type of Nagamdali.
- 8:24Speaker 2: And then the third.
- 8:25Speaker 6: Type is contributions low, competencies low, the duds and deadbeats. Yeah,
- 8:30Speaker 6: just like goodbye.
- 8:33Speaker 4: That's super spot on.
- 8:34Speaker 2: That was so spot on.
- 8:36Speaker 4: So spot on. I love the way he told that.
- 8:38Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 8:39Speaker 2: He's really good.
- 8:41Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:41Speaker 2: He's a great storyteller.
- 8:42Speaker 5: I was going to have him come actually live on
- 8:44Speaker 5: the show.
- 8:45Speaker 2: He's great. That was really good. He had a lot
- 8:47Speaker 2: of energy.
- 8:48Speaker 5: I loved it.
- 8:48Speaker 2: He's right, though.
- 8:49Speaker 4: Yeah, he is. There's definitely those two types of people.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Oh, I always say that that first time he talked
- 8:54Speaker 2: about the high performer, you know, but culturally crushing people. Yeah.
- 9:01Speaker 2: I always say that's like the real test of your
- 9:04Speaker 2: commitment to culture. And that even though he's high, performing...
- 9:12Speaker 2: Not actually high, but.
- 9:13Speaker 4: Even though he's high performing.
- 9:17Speaker 2: You know, he's actually depressing performance, you know, in his proximity. And,
- 9:22Speaker 2: you know, you heard him say, we tried to move
- 9:24Speaker 2: him to a virtual office.
- 9:25Speaker 4: That's crazy.
- 9:26Speaker 2: To get him away from people.
- 9:27Speaker 4: It's like, you're in timeout, but please keep selling.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Like, please. But that's the kind of, yeah, it's the
- 9:34Speaker 2: kind of bad hire that really test, you know, is
- 9:38Speaker 2: a real gut check when you're like, hey, I got
- 9:40Speaker 2: to let you go. I know you're my top performer.
- 9:42Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 9:43Speaker 2: But you're really bad for everybody else. Yeah. Yeah. Sure. Yeah.
- 9:47Speaker 2: So I don't know. That is a real test. That
- 9:52Speaker 2: was good. I loved that.
- 9:54Speaker 4: Thank you, Tom.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Thank you, Tom.
- 9:57Speaker 2: All right. So my story today is about.
- 10:00Speaker 5: a candidate that came in for a mid-level role. They
- 10:02Speaker 5: sit down, shake hands, seem totally fine. Then his mother
- 10:06Speaker 5: walks in. A newer hiring manager caught off guard, lets
- 10:09Speaker 5: her stay. Mom takes a seat in the corner. The
- 10:12Speaker 5: interview goes on. She's quiet the whole time, professional even.
- 10:16Speaker 5: The interview wraps up. Everyone's actually pretty impressed. Then the
- 10:19Speaker 5: mom speaks. She looks at the hiring team and says,
- 10:22Speaker 5: I need you to really hear this. She says, please
- 10:24Speaker 5: hire my son so he can help me pay for
- 10:26Speaker 5: my new teeth. Not he's worked really hard. Not I'm
- 10:32Speaker 5: just here for moral support. It's straight to the dental work.
- 10:36Speaker 5: And the hiring manager said it was the clearest sign
- 10:39Speaker 5: she'd ever received that a candidate might not be ready
- 10:42Speaker 5: to manage his own professional life. So he didn't get
- 10:45Speaker 5: the job and the teeth situation remains unresolved.
- 10:53Speaker 4: I couldn't keep a.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Straight face the whole time you were telling me because
- 10:55Speaker 1: I just, I remember putting the story out there.
- 10:58Speaker 5: I was like, you better give me some new teeth.
- 10:59Speaker 5: So I'm going to make sure you go to your
- 11:01Speaker 5: interview and I'm going to make sure you do a good.
- 11:02Speaker 4: Job because I need new teeth.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 11:06Speaker 4: My dad would find this one really funny. He's a dentist.
- 11:08Speaker 4: I'm sure that would give him a good laugh.
- 11:09Speaker 6: But we have.
- 11:12Speaker 5: Another story to react to by Tom. This is his
- 11:15Speaker 5: second story.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Oh, cool.
- 11:16Speaker 5: And so let's go ahead and cue.
- 11:19Speaker 4: That up as well.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Tom is a rock star.
- 11:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm like, he's giving us a whole show today.
- 11:24Speaker 4: Thank you, Tom.
- 11:26Speaker 6: There was a general vibe of negativity in the organization.
- 11:29Speaker 6: And so they brought me in and they said, hey,
- 11:31Speaker 6: can you just sit in for the day on several
- 11:33Speaker 6: meetings and just take notes and then we'll reconnect afterwards.
- 11:36Speaker 6: So I did. And I sat there and I took
- 11:37Speaker 6: all the notes. I listed, I took some quotes down
- 11:40Speaker 6: and I saw really quickly what the issue was, like
- 11:43Speaker 6: almost within the first two meetings. So at the end
- 11:45Speaker 6: of the day, I'm sitting with the executive team. And
- 11:47Speaker 6: they're like, so what'd you see, Tom? Like, what would
- 11:49Speaker 6: you hear? And I started reading some of the quotes.
- 11:51Speaker 6: Am I the only one who thinks around here? This
- 11:53Speaker 6: is ridiculous. Do we hire the wrong people? Why can
- 11:56Speaker 6: we not get this done on time? And everyone in
- 11:58Speaker 6: the room starts looking at one person. Because those quotes
- 12:02Speaker 6: were all from the exact same person. Now, here's the thing.
- 12:05Speaker 6: In the world of dance floor theory, we give them
- 12:08Speaker 6: levels of engagement. So now that we're on the dance floor,
- 12:11Speaker 6: we give them levels from neutral one, two, three, four,
- 12:13Speaker 6: and five. Executives many times think they're automatically a five.
- 12:18Speaker 6: They're a level five leader because I have the seed
- 12:20Speaker 6: suite title. But the reality is some of your worst
- 12:23Speaker 6: negative Nellies are going to be your executives. And why
- 12:27Speaker 6: that matters is because if an intern walks into a
- 12:30Speaker 6: room or a meeting and is a negative Nelly, it
- 12:33Speaker 6: will have a little bit of an impact. But if
- 12:35Speaker 6: you as the CEO walk in and you're saying these quotes,
- 12:38Speaker 6: you better believe it's going to influence everyone else in
- 12:41Speaker 6: that room. And so that's why I say C-suite people.
- 12:44Speaker 6: You may be complaining about your culture, but I say
- 12:47Speaker 6: you need to check in with yourself first because you
- 12:49Speaker 6: may be the negative Nelly on your team.
- 12:52Speaker 4: Oh, Ken, do we really want to react to that?
- 12:53Speaker 4: I'm just kidding.
- 12:55Speaker 2: What are you suggesting?
- 12:56Speaker 4: I'm joking because you're an executive.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Oh, my gosh.
- 13:00Speaker 5: I mean, I do like.
- 13:01Speaker 4: No, I'm just joking. I do agree, though.
- 13:04Speaker 5: I feel like you do see some people who like
- 13:07Speaker 5: in these companies that are the executives and they're like negative.
- 13:10Speaker 5: And then they're like, why is our culture so crappy?
- 13:12Speaker 5: And then it's like. you know, it starts from the top.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:15Speaker 4: So not here at Beach X, obviously, but.
- 13:19Speaker 2: I don't know. I worked for a guy for a
- 13:20Speaker 2: long time, worked for a couple of guys for a
- 13:22Speaker 2: long time that had, the only difference is they never asked,
- 13:26Speaker 2: why is our culture so negative?
- 13:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:29Speaker 2: They didn't even know. They didn't care. Yeah. Culture was
- 13:32Speaker 2: not even something that.
- 13:33Speaker 4: Came through their mind.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Yeah. So, you know, and sometimes I think it's, You know,
- 13:39Speaker 2: people just don't have the skills, you know, the idea
- 13:44Speaker 2: that there's some type of dictator gets in their head,
- 13:46Speaker 2: you know, at the executive level. And then, you know,
- 13:50Speaker 2: they don't even care. Culture is not even something they
- 13:54Speaker 2: think about. You know, it's just get the job done,
- 13:57Speaker 2: obey the rules, you know, kind of thing. That's the culture. So, yeah.
- 14:02Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 14:03Speaker 2: But I loved what he said in there, and that was...
- 14:06Speaker 2: You know, in turn, that's negative has little influence on others.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:12Speaker 2: You know, and the higher the person is in the organization.
- 14:14Speaker 4: The higher the impact. Yeah. So spot on.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Tom is awesome. Yes.
- 14:20Speaker 4: We love Tom.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Thank you, Tom. I'm going to hire Tom.
- 14:23Speaker 4: Yeah, for real. Tom, are you looking? I'm just kidding.
- 14:26Speaker 4: He's probably like CEO of something. I need to go
- 14:28Speaker 4: look at his profile after this. But thank you, Tom.
- 14:31Speaker 2: It was really good. Yeah. Now what's up?
- 14:35Speaker 1: Um, my turn.
- 14:37Speaker 4: Okay.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Okay, I just have one story. But here we go.
- 14:41Speaker 6: Okay.
- 14:42Speaker 1: So I ran a small company and I needed a bookkeeper.
- 14:46Speaker 1: I found someone who seemed solid, good with numbers, easy
- 14:49Speaker 1: to work with. I trusted him pretty quickly, honestly. Every
- 14:52Speaker 1: week payroll ran, everyone got their check, and things just
- 14:56Speaker 1: kept moving along like normal for a year. It wasn't
- 14:59Speaker 1: until someone flagged a small discrepancy during an audit that
- 15:02Speaker 1: anything came up. Turns out my bookkeeper had been cutting
- 15:05Speaker 1: himself two checks every single week, one legitimate paycheck and
- 15:09Speaker 1: one that was very much not legitimate. For 12 months,
- 15:12Speaker 1: nobody caught it because he was the bookkeeper. Yeah, I
- 15:15Speaker 1: guess he's the one who would catch that. He reconciled
- 15:20Speaker 1: the accounts. He knew exactly where to hide it. And
- 15:24Speaker 1: I just had no reason to look. I brought in
- 15:26Speaker 1: a forensic accountant who confirmed it. He had been paying
- 15:29Speaker 1: himself double for an entire year.
- 15:30Speaker 4: Yikes.
- 15:31Speaker 1: When we confronted him about it, he seemed surprised, not
- 15:35Speaker 1: that he'd been caught, but that it had taken this
- 15:38Speaker 1: long for them to catch him doing it.
- 15:41Speaker 2: He's like, you idiots.
- 15:43Speaker 4: Like, he finally caught on. A background check with employment.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Just wondered how long you were letting me get away
- 15:49Speaker 2: with this.
- 15:50Speaker 4: The villain is dying to get caught.
- 15:52Speaker 1: And then it says a background check with employment verification
- 15:55Speaker 1: might have revealed that his previous employer had let him
- 15:58Speaker 1: go under very similar circumstances.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Oh, Lord.
- 16:00Speaker 1: And spoiler alert, they did.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Great.
- 16:05Speaker 3: Yep.
- 16:05Speaker 4: Run those employment verifications, guys. Let this be your lesson.
- 16:09Speaker 2: That's hilarious. Yeah. Not hilarious. Hilarious.
- 16:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:13Speaker 2: I don't wish anybody to get stolen from.
- 16:17Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 16:18Speaker 2: That happens so often. And I have heard. So many stories.
- 16:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:23Speaker 2: About people hiring bookkeepers and really not doing a super
- 16:30Speaker 2: thorough job. You know, like maybe they do some background checks.
- 16:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:35Speaker 2: But a lot of these things where people get caught,
- 16:38Speaker 2: you know, they don't get turned over to the police.
- 16:41Speaker 2: There's not a lot of charges. They end up getting
- 16:44Speaker 2: booted and fired.
- 16:45Speaker 5: I still feel like you should have somebody who regularly
- 16:48Speaker 5: audits your bookkeeper just to like.
- 16:50Speaker 4: Be safe.
- 16:51Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, for sure. I don't know.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Yeah, because... It's.
- 16:53Speaker 5: Like giving somebody that amount of trust is a little crazy,
- 16:55Speaker 5: in my opinion, but that's just me.
- 16:57Speaker 3: Because the funny part about that story was that the
- 17:00Speaker 3: guy was surprised. He wasn't surprised that he got caught.
- 17:03Speaker 3: He was surprised that it took that long to catch him.
- 17:06Speaker 3: He's like, hmm, let's see how long I can get
- 17:07Speaker 3: away with this for.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Oh, my goodness. Another bad hire.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:13Speaker 4: That's all. The bad hires will continue.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Is that it?
- 17:17Speaker 6: Yep.
- 17:17Speaker 2: All right. Well, that's it for us today, then. Yeah.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Thanks for listening to The Bad Hire. And listen, please subscribe, rate, review, like, share,
- 17:26Speaker 2: whatever you do to whatever you do on whatever app

- 17:36Speaker 2: our show with anybody. I think we release every Wednesday now.
- 17:40Speaker 4: We do.
- 17:41Speaker 2: And so that's kind of cool. So it's kind of
- 17:43Speaker 2: we're getting into a rhythm of knowing exactly when we're
- 17:45Speaker 2: going to release shows. So but. you know, like and
- 17:51Speaker 2: review and share. We'd love that. And then also remember, submit,

- 18:04Speaker 2: like bone crushing bad hire where you can, you know,
- 18:08Speaker 2: you can write a story of redemption. Somebody, you know,
- 18:10Speaker 2: who maybe did something wrong, but ended up getting it
- 18:13Speaker 2: turned around or listen, you can even write a story
- 18:16Speaker 2: about someone being awesome. Yeah. All right. We'll just do
- 18:18Speaker 2: it a, We'll just do an anti-bad hire story.
- 18:21Speaker 4: Positive story day.
- 18:22Speaker 2: And what you learned from it. So what we really
- 18:25Speaker 2: love to tell is hiring stories. Yeah. And, you know,
- 18:30Speaker 2: we laugh about them only because some of them are
- 18:35Speaker 2: crazy ridiculous and it's true. And it's what HR pros
- 18:39Speaker 2: face like on a regular basis. Like we hear these
- 18:41Speaker 2: stories and then, you know, people have come up to
- 18:43Speaker 2: me after the show, after hearing the show one time
- 18:47Speaker 2: or two and saying, oh my gosh, that was so true.
- 18:51Speaker 2: I have had that exact thing happen to me. And
- 18:54Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, the hiring world is a crazy world
- 18:57Speaker 2: and recruiters get to experience a lot of crazy stuff.
- 19:03Speaker 2: But submit your story. Go to thebadhire.com. You could get
- 19:07Speaker 2: an email from us to do a segment like Tom did.
