- 0:29Speaker 1: Welcome to Table Talk here at the Philadelphia Sports Table
- 0:31Speaker 1: podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly sports podcast show
- 0:35Speaker 1: in the world, twelve years strong. And we got a
- 0:38Speaker 1: great discussion coming your way on Table Talk this week.
- 0:40Speaker 1: We're gonna be looking into and digesting, I should say,
- 0:44Speaker 1: week one of this NFL season, what we saw from
- 0:47Speaker 1: so many various teams. And we got a great guest
- 0:50Speaker 1: from Acmepackingcompany dot com, great sp Nation site. He runs
- 0:54Speaker 1: a show over there, fantastic content. Our good friend Evan
- 0:57Speaker 1: Text Western Text, Boddy.
- 0:59Speaker 2: How you doing, my friend, Jeff, I am. I am great.
- 1:02Speaker 2: If anybody who watched the backers feed up on the
- 1:04Speaker 2: line yesterday should should understand why I feel that way. Yes,
- 1:07Speaker 2: but yeah, man, we haven't talked since the Micae Parsons
- 1:11Speaker 2: straight happened. Gosh, that was only still only like ten
- 1:14Speaker 2: eleven days ago, I know, not even like two weeks
- 1:16Speaker 2: at this point. It's it's crazy, man. It has energized
- 1:21Speaker 2: this fan base and this team like not a lot
- 1:23Speaker 2: of things have in the last thirty years. And and
- 1:26Speaker 2: and really I mean it, the vibes are you hate
- 1:30Speaker 2: to compare it to the Reggie White signing in ninety three,
- 1:34Speaker 2: like too much, but like it. That's that's where the
- 1:38Speaker 2: vibes are around Packers fans with this, just the way
- 1:41Speaker 2: that they went about it and and actually pulled the
- 1:44Speaker 2: trigger on a big move like this, and then for
- 1:47Speaker 2: him to come out and have a really really fun
- 1:49Speaker 2: debut and make some big plays. Yeah, it's it's great.
- 1:53Speaker 2: And you know, it's great to be one game up
- 1:56Speaker 2: on the probably the toughest other team in your division
- 1:59Speaker 2: after Week one. Absolutely feeling good, feeling really good.
- 2:01Speaker 1: You should be, because it was an incredible performance on
- 2:05Speaker 1: the field that the Green Bay Packers put on against
- 2:07Speaker 1: the Detroit Lions. Who and you know, we're going to
- 2:10Speaker 1: get into the Packers. We're going to get into the defense.
- 2:12Speaker 1: But I'm watching that game thinking to myself, my goodness,
- 2:16Speaker 1: this Packers offense, this Packers defense is going to be
- 2:20Speaker 1: perhaps unstoppable given what the Detroit Lions have been, you know,
- 2:24Speaker 1: over the past couple seasons, a very formidable team. And
- 2:27Speaker 1: of course we know, we know they have some weaknesses
- 2:30Speaker 1: on offense in terms of the line, which we're going
- 2:32Speaker 1: to get into in a bit too. But man, if
- 2:34Speaker 1: I were you, I'd be like riding really high right now.
- 2:37Speaker 2: My friend. Yeah, absolutely, And I mean, well, well, I'm
- 2:41Speaker 2: sure this will touch on this a couple different times,
- 2:43Speaker 2: but it starts in the trenches. It does. They dominated
- 2:45Speaker 2: on defense in the run game and especially against Detroit.
- 2:49Speaker 2: If you can do that, that that just sets up
- 2:52Speaker 2: you sets you up so well for success in every
- 2:54Speaker 2: other phase of the game.
- 2:54Speaker 1: How many times have we talked about it on this
- 2:56Speaker 1: podcast platform. I know you've talked about it as well.
- 2:58Speaker 1: I mean, success in the NFL comes in the trenches.
- 3:00Speaker 1: It's not the flashiest thing in the world, but success
- 3:02Speaker 1: comes in the trenches when you've got blockers, when you've
- 3:05Speaker 1: got pass protection, when you've got defenders who are able
- 3:08Speaker 1: to pursuit to the ball. That's where it really starts.
- 3:12Speaker 1: And you know, we are going to get into both
- 3:14Speaker 1: of our teams here right off the bat in terms
- 3:17Speaker 1: of our discussion here, but I really wanted to before
- 3:20Speaker 1: we get in Packers and Lions game here from week one,
- 3:23Speaker 1: wanted to get your take watching the Philadelphia Eagles and
- 3:27Speaker 1: the Dallas Cowboys game from this past Thursday night. I mean,
- 3:30Speaker 1: this was this was a game that the Eagles could
- 3:33Speaker 1: have easily lost in my opinion. A lot of other
- 3:36Speaker 1: opinions out there as well. If I'm being completely honest,
- 3:39Speaker 1: and that's what we do on this show. We are
- 3:41Speaker 1: very honest, my co hosts and I when we do
- 3:43Speaker 1: our regular show every week, We're honest. It wasn't the
- 3:46Speaker 1: greatest performance from the Philadelphia Eagles. We know that they
- 3:49Speaker 1: lost their best defensive player with some stupid crap spitting incident.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Of course, before the first and half of the game.
- 3:57Speaker 1: The Eagles defense they frankly played soft the first TAFF.
- 4:00Speaker 1: They allowed the Cowboys offense to drive on them. Cowboys
- 4:03Speaker 1: offense hitting some big plays down the field, had the
- 4:06Speaker 1: run game was working really well during the first half.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Yet some of that rust and that lack of discipline
- 4:12Speaker 1: that we saw from the Eagles, this is a team
- 4:14Speaker 1: that still.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Ended up winning. You know.
- 4:16Speaker 1: So, I'm wondering, as you're watching Thursday night game, the
- 4:20Speaker 1: game that kicked off this season, what is your honest
- 4:23Speaker 1: assessment texts of what you saw from the Eagles this
- 4:25Speaker 1: past week and that matchup against the Cowboys. The Eagles
- 4:28Speaker 1: the defending champions.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Here, what are your thoughts? Yeah, I mean, I think
- 4:32Speaker 2: it boils down to they didn't play anywhere near their
- 4:35Speaker 2: potential right this is is obviously a defending, defending Super
- 4:38Speaker 2: Bowl champion team, and there's there's so much talent on
- 4:41Speaker 2: both sides of the football, and they they were off
- 4:44Speaker 2: their game, I think in large, in large parts and
- 4:47Speaker 2: in a couple of different facets of the game. I
- 4:50Speaker 2: think it seemed to me that pass defense, the second
- 4:55Speaker 2: cornerback position in particular, is going to be a major problem. Boy.
- 5:00Speaker 2: I mean, they're gonna have to figure something out there
- 5:02Speaker 2: because a Dori Jackson is not going to cut it
- 5:05Speaker 2: if he's out there. Yes, he's cooked.
- 5:08Speaker 1: He was cooked when they brought him in, and a
- 5:09Speaker 1: lot of us with an Eagles nation are thinking, how
- 5:12Speaker 1: is it possible that he not only started, but ended
- 5:14Speaker 1: up finishing the game as well.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Yeah, so, I mean, certainly the the and and again
- 5:20Speaker 2: it comes down to the trenches. You don't have one
- 5:22Speaker 2: of your best defensive linemen that's gonna then have a
- 5:25Speaker 2: knock on effect with with effect your your secondary and
- 5:29Speaker 2: but I think that's that's an area where I think
- 5:32Speaker 2: Philly can be vulnerable defensively, is to explosive plays. And
- 5:35Speaker 2: we talked about it when we preview the Packers earlier
- 5:37Speaker 2: this summer that I thought explosives would be one of
- 5:39Speaker 2: the Packers big strengths. Yes, area where I would love
- 5:43Speaker 2: to see, you know, Matt Leafleuur dial up some man beaters,
- 5:45Speaker 2: some play action you know in that Week ten game
- 5:48Speaker 2: when when the Packers welcome Philly into into lambeau Field.
- 5:52Speaker 2: But no, and and the passing game for for the
- 5:56Speaker 2: Eagles offense didn't really seem to be very in sync either.
- 6:00Speaker 1: I wanted to ask about your thoughts with regard to
- 6:02Speaker 1: aj Brown not getting targeted until about a minute and
- 6:05Speaker 1: what forty six seconds left in the fourth quarter, Like
- 6:07Speaker 1: as as somebody who's on the outside, Like how how
- 6:10Speaker 1: how did you perceive that?
- 6:12Speaker 2: I don't I don't understand why you don't take give
- 6:15Speaker 2: him a shot for a contested catch somewhere along the line.
- 6:19Speaker 2: And I know, you know, like Jalen Hurst is a
- 6:22Speaker 2: guy that we know. He doesn't like to throw intermediate
- 6:24Speaker 2: to deep stuff over the middle very much. It's it's
- 6:26Speaker 2: all sideline stuff. But I would have thought at least
- 6:29Speaker 2: a shot or two, you know, dial up a play
- 6:31Speaker 2: action shot to Brown up the sideline somewhere along the
- 6:34Speaker 2: line to try to take the top of the defense
- 6:35Speaker 2: a little bit. Yeah, I don't know if if there
- 6:37Speaker 2: was something schematically that that Dallas was doing, I'd have
- 6:41Speaker 2: to look back a little more closely at what they
- 6:42Speaker 2: were doing defensively, if they were playing a lot of
- 6:44Speaker 2: too high and really you know, keeping the safeties out
- 6:48Speaker 2: at the numbers or or what they were doing.
- 6:50Speaker 1: But we're playing too high, I mean they really were.
- 6:51Speaker 1: They were playing a lot of Yeah.
- 6:54Speaker 2: And and that's a you know, that's a risk against
- 6:57Speaker 2: you know, a team that can run the ball the
- 6:58Speaker 2: way that Philly can. So you know, it is kind
- 7:01Speaker 2: of a pick your poison a little bit with that
- 7:02Speaker 2: Philly offense. But I think that's that's one where if
- 7:07Speaker 2: teams are going to do that, Jalen Hurts is going
- 7:09Speaker 2: to have to start throwing some intermediate balls over the
- 7:11Speaker 2: middle because that's where the that's where the soft spot
- 7:14Speaker 2: in that zone is going to be. So I think that,
- 7:17Speaker 2: you know, that'll that will sort itself out. I think
- 7:18Speaker 2: they'll they'll look at the tape and probably identify that
- 7:21Speaker 2: as an area where they can probably exploit some defenses
- 7:24Speaker 2: if they're going to keep playing that too high shell
- 7:26Speaker 2: quite a bit. Yeah, but yeah, that the Eagles have
- 7:29Speaker 2: way more than what they put on tape on Thursday.
- 7:32Speaker 2: I agree with you. I think they were probably lucky
- 7:34Speaker 2: to escape with a win. But you know, fundamentally, they're
- 7:38Speaker 2: they're want to know and absolutely that's what it boils
- 7:41Speaker 2: down to. And you know, there's there's a lot of
- 7:44Speaker 2: teams that that didn't get so lucky. I'm looking at you,
- 7:47Speaker 2: you know out in Kansas City, where where one score
- 7:49Speaker 2: regression finally hit. So so my my math noted him
- 7:53Speaker 2: was very happy that regression finally finally hit those guys. Absolutely.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Look, yeah, the team that you cover, the team that
- 8:00Speaker 1: you've been a fan of, the Green Bay Packers, I mean,
- 8:03Speaker 1: they are definitely looming as a real and viable threat
- 8:07Speaker 1: to the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles this season.
- 8:11Speaker 1: In fact, in my season preview, I actually have the
- 8:14Speaker 1: Packers playing the Eagles in the NFC Championship Game. And
- 8:18Speaker 1: if that comes down to it, I think it's going
- 8:20Speaker 1: to be phenomenal. And I'm saying based on what we
- 8:23Speaker 1: saw this week from the Packers, my gosh, texts, they
- 8:26Speaker 1: played some amazing football this Sunday against the Lions, and
- 8:29Speaker 1: what was most notable was for me was just the
- 8:33Speaker 1: sheer dominance of the Packers defense. I mean, they were
- 8:36Speaker 1: just swarming the ball. Their pursuit to the ball with
- 8:39Speaker 1: some of the best I've seen from them, and I
- 8:40Speaker 1: can't even tell you how long. What are your thoughts
- 8:43Speaker 1: on how the Packers defense may actually dominate this season?
- 8:47Speaker 1: Or and I say this with a little hesitation, or
- 8:50Speaker 1: was this a situation here from Week one where you
- 8:53Speaker 1: had three new starters for the Lions offensive line who
- 8:56Speaker 1: were really getting their feet wet and were just kind
- 8:58Speaker 1: of overwhelmed matched. Is this really a dominant Packers defense
- 9:03Speaker 1: or was it like an offensive line that was just
- 9:06Speaker 1: really trying to trying to figure out their way.
- 9:08Speaker 2: What are your thoughts here? Yeah, you're You're absolutely right
- 9:12Speaker 2: in terms of the aggressiveness and the tackling and taking
- 9:15Speaker 2: angles to the ballcarriers. That was one of the best
- 9:18Speaker 2: performances from this team since probably you know, the Super
- 9:22Speaker 2: Bowl year. It's been a while. Yeah, yeah, And I
- 9:26Speaker 2: think part of it is. Part of it is personnel.
- 9:28Speaker 2: I mean, they've got second year at linebacker and Eddrian Cooper,
- 9:32Speaker 2: who I firmly believe is going to be an All
- 9:34Speaker 2: Pro this year. They've got you know, Xavier McKinney was
- 9:37Speaker 2: an All Pro last year. Kawai Walker played better in
- 9:40Speaker 2: that game than I think I've seen him play at
- 9:42Speaker 2: any point in his his first three years in the NFL.
- 9:45Speaker 2: And then we get to the Micah Parsons factor, and
- 9:49Speaker 2: what a jolt he brought to this defense, to the
- 9:53Speaker 2: Lamba field. Honestly, yeah, I mean he was. He was
- 9:56Speaker 2: the last guy to get introduced as part of the
- 9:58Speaker 2: starting defense before before the game started, and Lambo just exploded.
- 10:04Speaker 2: And again, I mean the energy around this team, that
- 10:07Speaker 2: the fact that with Parsons out there, teams have to
- 10:10Speaker 2: game plan for him. So now you're getting Rashan Gary's
- 10:12Speaker 2: getting one on ones. You're getting Lucas van Ness, who
- 10:15Speaker 2: looks like a much improved player this year already in
- 10:17Speaker 2: a small sample size, he's getting one on one. You know,
- 10:21Speaker 2: Kenny Clark was the big trade piece, right for going
- 10:24Speaker 2: back to Dallas in that trade, but the Packers didn't
- 10:27Speaker 2: look like they needed him. They got really good play
- 10:29Speaker 2: out of their defensive tackles that I think was probably
- 10:32Speaker 2: in part influenced by that young offensive line on the
- 10:35Speaker 2: interior that you mentioned for Detroit. Okay, I don't know
- 10:37Speaker 2: that I expect the Packers interier line to hold up
- 10:40Speaker 2: quite as well long term as they did in this game,
- 10:44Speaker 2: but certainly off the edge. I mean this team it
- 10:46Speaker 2: has now embarrassment of Riches, super explosive and Parsons, you know,
- 10:53Speaker 2: he forced a pick, he forced the three and out
- 10:55Speaker 2: on the first drive. And the Packers really had a
- 10:58Speaker 2: great flow for this game. They had they really hit
- 11:00Speaker 2: head control all the way through. I mean, they come out,
- 11:02Speaker 2: they get the ball, they go down, long touchdown drive
- 11:05Speaker 2: right off the bat, force the three and out, come back,
- 11:08Speaker 2: you kick a field goal. Well, then Detroit goes down
- 11:11Speaker 2: and takes nine minutes off the clock, but you get
- 11:13Speaker 2: a stop in the red zone. You hold them too,
- 11:14Speaker 2: a field goal. It's ten to seven, and then the
- 11:16Speaker 2: Explosives kick in. Two plays later, Packers score a touchdown
- 11:20Speaker 2: forty eight yard bombed Dobs, a seventeen year touchdown to
- 11:23Speaker 2: Jayden Reid, and all of a sudden, it's a two
- 11:24Speaker 2: touchdown game. Midway through the second quarter. And now the
- 11:28Speaker 2: Lions can't really do all of the funky run game
- 11:31Speaker 2: stuff that they like to do, and they have to
- 11:33Speaker 2: throw the ball a little bit more, which gives Parsons
- 11:35Speaker 2: more opportunity to tee off as a pass rusher, and
- 11:38Speaker 2: the game state was just as ideal as it possibly
- 11:42Speaker 2: could have been for a Matt Lafleur coach team. And
- 11:45Speaker 2: then for the situation that the Packers were in wanting
- 11:47Speaker 2: to kind of get Parsons involved as more of a
- 11:50Speaker 2: situational pass rusher. I mean, you had basically the entire
- 11:53Speaker 2: second half where he didn't need to leave the field
- 11:55Speaker 2: because that was all that Detroit was going to be
- 11:57Speaker 2: able to do is throw the ball. So he ended
- 11:59Speaker 2: up playing almost half of the defensive snaps. I think
- 12:02Speaker 2: if it's a more if it's a closer game and
- 12:05Speaker 2: Detroit's in their normal offense for more of that game,
- 12:08Speaker 2: you probably only see him playing thirty thirty five percent
- 12:11Speaker 2: of those snaps, but he probably played an extra ten
- 12:13Speaker 2: or twelve snaps because simply Detroit had no choice but
- 12:17Speaker 2: to throw the ball in the second half. And if
- 12:19Speaker 2: that's a you know, if that's an indication, don't. I
- 12:22Speaker 2: don't know that. I think he's gonna have a big
- 12:24Speaker 2: uptick in playing time for this week, especially on a
- 12:26Speaker 2: short week with the Packers playing Washington on Thursday night.
- 12:28Speaker 2: That's right, yeah, coming off of the mini bi after
- 12:31Speaker 2: Thursday night, Week three, in Cleveland, I think is when
- 12:34Speaker 2: we're going to start to really see him worked in
- 12:36Speaker 2: a little bit more as an every down player, working
- 12:38Speaker 2: him in on bass downs, when he's had a little
- 12:40Speaker 2: more more of time to get to know the playbook
- 12:42Speaker 2: and have some more practices, installing some of the Jeff
- 12:45Speaker 2: Affley concepts.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I got to tell you, it's going to be
- 12:47Speaker 1: interesting watching this Packers defense, especially the front seven. My gosh,
- 12:52Speaker 1: it's going to be really fun watching them. But I
- 12:55Speaker 1: also have to say, you know, as we're moving along
- 12:56Speaker 1: with the conversation here in terms of the NFC, what
- 13:00Speaker 1: is going to be fun to watch, at least for me?
- 13:02Speaker 1: In terms of the NFC East as well, it's gonna
- 13:05Speaker 1: be fun watching the New York Giants. It really is, Manse. Look,
- 13:09Speaker 1: I don't think many of us in the NFC here
- 13:11Speaker 1: need to worry about the New York Giants. I mean,
- 13:13Speaker 1: what a complete freaking mess this team is. I usually
- 13:16Speaker 1: don't take much joy in this type of stuff, but
- 13:18Speaker 1: I've got some friends out there. I've got some acquaintances
- 13:21Speaker 1: out there who for years and years to the Eli
- 13:23Speaker 1: Manning years and him. We're getting two Super Bowls, Oh
- 13:26Speaker 1: my gosh, They're the greatest thing since sliced bread. Look,
- 13:29Speaker 1: I know it is just week one here, text, but
- 13:32Speaker 1: I'm not sure if Brian Dabele is the head coach
- 13:35Speaker 1: of this team at the end of the season based
- 13:38Speaker 1: on what we saw just in week one, for God's sake, here,
- 13:41Speaker 1: what are your thoughts on the Giants and the dumpster
- 13:44Speaker 1: fire that they were right out of the gate?
- 13:47Speaker 2: Man, I think it's gonna be a race between Brian
- 13:49Speaker 2: Dable and Mike McDaniel in Miami as to who might
- 13:52Speaker 2: get canned first this season.
- 13:53Speaker 1: I really thought I was thinking after the Miami game too.
- 13:56Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm not sure if McDaniel's gonna make it
- 13:58Speaker 1: to week two. Seriously, I never think it was before
- 14:01Speaker 1: that was.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Rough, man, But I mean I couldn't believe that. This afternoon,
- 14:06Speaker 2: apparently Dable announced that Russell Wilson is going to start
- 14:08Speaker 2: for Week two again too. So man, Wilson, Wilson looks
- 14:13Speaker 2: like he needs to hang him up too, absolutely, and
- 14:15Speaker 2: and and really just yeah, that Giants team was a
- 14:17Speaker 2: mess all the way around. And I saw I saw
- 14:20Speaker 2: bits and pieces of that game. I didn't watch the
- 14:23Speaker 2: whole thing, but what I saw, I feel like didn't
- 14:26Speaker 2: really give me any read on the Commanders because it
- 14:28Speaker 2: felt like they were barely going up against NFL competition
- 14:31Speaker 2: in that game. I would have liked to have seen him,
- 14:34Speaker 2: you know, have to play a little bit of a
- 14:35Speaker 2: tougher matchup in Week one to to get him a
- 14:38Speaker 2: little bit more banged up heading onto a short week
- 14:40Speaker 2: and heading up to Green Bay.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean they're going to be playing the Packers.
- 14:43Speaker 1: That's certainly gonna be the test, right Yeah.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Yeah, so, but no, it's it's it's ugly out there, man.
- 14:49Speaker 2: And and I've got as as a fantasy football guy,
- 14:52Speaker 2: I've got Tyrone Tracy in a couple of leagues and
- 14:54Speaker 2: he cashed in pretty big for me last year. But boy,
- 14:57Speaker 2: there there's not much to to like.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Their offensive line, right, Yeah, their offensive line is absolutely horrendous. Well, folks,
- 15:06Speaker 1: it's great talking to our good buddy. Text here from
- 15:09Speaker 1: the ACME Packingcompany dot Com. Tell everybody out there where
- 15:13Speaker 1: they can follow you if they want to, you know,
- 15:14Speaker 1: see what you're doing on the interwebs out there, techs.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Yeah, you mentioned the ACME Packingcompany dot Com. We've got
- 15:22Speaker 2: obviously again this week, short week, we'll have game coverage
- 15:24Speaker 2: on Thursday night for for Packers Commanders. I also host
- 15:29Speaker 2: the Repack, one of the shows on the Frozen Tunder
- 15:31Speaker 2: Frequencies podcast network, so I usually do that and have
- 15:35Speaker 2: a have a podcast episode up right after the game
- 15:39Speaker 2: or the evening of the game. So I'll be up
- 15:41Speaker 2: up nice and late. Thankfully. I'm I'm actually traveling on
- 15:43Speaker 2: the West coast this week, so it won't feel like
- 15:45Speaker 2: quite so late a night, you know, recording at you
- 15:49Speaker 2: know nine Pacific instead of you know that my normal
- 15:52Speaker 2: midnight Eastern time right for primetime games. I know how
- 15:55Speaker 2: that is, but yeah, but yeah, for Frozen under Frequencies.
- 15:59Speaker 2: You can find it anywhere where you get your podcasts.
- 16:02Speaker 2: We're at ACME Packing, Come ACME Packing co on all

- 16:24Speaker 1: as well. Twitter, slash Ax, I should say, at Philadelphia, pst, Instagram,
- 16:29Speaker 1: just search out the Philadelphia Sports Table on various social sites.
- 16:33Speaker 1: You will find us out there. We're gonna take a
- 16:35Speaker 1: quick break, but when we get back, got some more
- 16:37Speaker 1: NFL talk from week one. Come in your way, all right,
- 16:41Speaker 1: We are back with our good friend Evan tex Western
- 16:44Speaker 1: from Acmepackingcompany dot Com, Great SB Nation site and Buddy,
- 16:50Speaker 1: I want to get into the AFC now. We did
- 16:53Speaker 1: a lot of NFC talk right out of the gate,
- 16:55Speaker 1: and I think one of the biggest surprises for me
- 16:59Speaker 1: from week one one digesting it was really the AFC
- 17:03Speaker 1: West and the teams that we saw performing on the field.
- 17:07Speaker 1: I mean the Chiefs, they really didn't look like the
- 17:09Speaker 1: Chiefs that we've been used to seeing over the past
- 17:11Speaker 1: maybe like six seven years or so.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Here.
- 17:13Speaker 1: I thought the Broncos offense and bow Knicks would come
- 17:16Speaker 1: out swinging and be a complete force. I mean, as
- 17:19Speaker 1: a prediction that I had on our preview show, they
- 17:22Speaker 1: really weren't doing much. With Bownicks turning the ball over
- 17:25Speaker 1: as much as he did. The Chargers played some real
- 17:28Speaker 1: tough football with the Chiefs winning that game. I was surprised,
- 17:32Speaker 1: quite frankly, and just surprised where the AFC West is here?
- 17:35Speaker 1: What surprised you the most about this division? Again, the
- 17:38Speaker 1: AFC West, Like right out of the gate.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Yeah, can I say that the Chargers didn't blow it late? Right?
- 17:45Speaker 2: Charges it up right? And again I mean I mentioned
- 17:49Speaker 2: I joked about it earlier, but the one score game
- 17:51Speaker 2: thing with that Chargers Chiefs game, I was again, I'm
- 17:56Speaker 2: I was kind of happy that they that that streak
- 17:58Speaker 2: of whatever it was, like fourteen straight one score games
- 18:01Speaker 2: or something, Yeah, that the Chiefs had won got got broken.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Because we're big regression to the mean people when it
- 18:09Speaker 2: comes to unsustainable trends over acne packing companies. So nice
- 18:13Speaker 2: to see things balance them out a little bit. But
- 18:15Speaker 2: I mean, one of the other things to me was
- 18:17Speaker 2: that Jim Harbaugh let justin Herbert cook a little bit.
- 18:20Speaker 2: He did. That was a little surprising to me because
- 18:22Speaker 2: that that is very kind of unhrball like just in general,
- 18:25Speaker 2: with his general attitude towards, you know, how football should
- 18:29Speaker 2: be played and how to construct an offense. So the
- 18:32Speaker 2: fact that Herbert went out there and I mean had
- 18:34Speaker 2: a phenomenal game, and I was also really I was,
- 18:39Speaker 2: I was impressed that Harbaugh didn't just kind of try
- 18:42Speaker 2: to run out the clock late with with the running
- 18:45Speaker 2: game and just run three draws or three halfback dives
- 18:48Speaker 2: up the middle. He actually let, you know, let Herbert
- 18:50Speaker 2: get out on a bootleg to give him the run
- 18:52Speaker 2: pass option to and then he you know, ends up
- 18:55Speaker 2: scrambling and having that awesome slide to finish off the game.
- 18:59Speaker 2: So that was maybe the biggest surprise to me was
- 19:02Speaker 2: was seeing how the Chargers played and how Harbaugh really
- 19:06Speaker 2: kind of opened up that offense.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, there were a lot of surprises here in
- 19:10Speaker 1: Week one, especially in the AFC two. I was also
- 19:14Speaker 1: surprised text at how we saw a rather anemic Bengals
- 19:19Speaker 1: offense play against the Cleveland Browns. And I know the
- 19:21Speaker 1: Cleveland Browns have a pretty good defense, but it was
- 19:24Speaker 1: actually the Bengals defense that kind of led the way
- 19:28Speaker 1: to their seventeen to sixteen victory over the Browns. Joe
- 19:32Speaker 1: Burrow and his star wide receivers and Jamar Chase and
- 19:35Speaker 1: T Higgins, that wide receiver duo that got some big
- 19:39Speaker 1: Buco contract extensions and money. They really didn't do much
- 19:43Speaker 1: through the air at all. And I'm somebody on my
- 19:45Speaker 1: fantasy teams who has a little bit too much T
- 19:48Speaker 1: Higgins out there, and I was none too please at all.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Were you surprised at how bad I should say quote
- 19:55Speaker 1: bad that the Bengals offense really looked and should this
- 19:58Speaker 1: be a bigger storyline heading into we too? What do
- 20:00Speaker 1: you think?
- 20:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think it's definitely surprised anytime you
- 20:04Speaker 2: have that many big weapons and there's basically no production
- 20:07Speaker 2: out of those guys. I still have major question marks
- 20:11Speaker 2: about the Bengals offensive line, and I don't think they've
- 20:15Speaker 2: I don't think they've answered many of those questions over
- 20:17Speaker 2: the last probably five basically Joe Burrow's entire tenure practically
- 20:22Speaker 2: in Cincinnati at this point. So I mean he takes
- 20:25Speaker 2: he takes about as many hits as anybody, but maybe
- 20:28Speaker 2: like Akla Williams in the NFL these days. So I mean, again,
- 20:33Speaker 2: it comes down to the trenches, right, it starts there.
- 20:35Speaker 2: If he can get some time to throw, I think
- 20:37Speaker 2: you're you're in a much better position. But obviously, again,
- 20:40Speaker 2: you know you mentioned that the Browns have a good defense.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Miles Garrett is Miles Garrett, and certainly that's gonna I
- 20:46Speaker 2: mean think he had two sacks in that game, So yeah,
- 20:49Speaker 2: he was certainly a big factor there. But yeah, I
- 20:54Speaker 2: selfishly hope that they don't find their strident until at
- 20:56Speaker 2: least like week seven or eight, because the factors get
- 20:59Speaker 2: the the Bengals coming coming into lambo in week six,
- 21:03Speaker 2: so they can wait a couple of weeks to figure
- 21:05Speaker 2: it out as far as I could.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Say, absolutely. All Right, well, buddy, before I let you go,
- 21:09Speaker 1: you know that we are always talking about under the
- 21:12Speaker 1: radar storylines here on the PSD podcast show, So I
- 21:15Speaker 1: know it's a general question. You're a football fan, you
- 21:18Speaker 1: watched a lot of football this past weekend here, what
- 21:20Speaker 1: do you think is one of the most underrated story
- 21:22Speaker 1: or I was sorry, one of the most under the
- 21:24Speaker 1: radar storylines from a player or a team in the
- 21:28Speaker 1: NFL after digesting what we just saw in Week.
- 21:31Speaker 2: One, Yeah, I'm gonna go with I'm really just intrigued
- 21:37Speaker 2: to see how all of the rookie receivers this year
- 21:41Speaker 2: sort of develop within their different often likes like you've
- 21:44Speaker 2: got You've got a bunch of these guys in the
- 21:46Speaker 2: first round. I mean, Matthew Golden had a kind of
- 21:48Speaker 2: a quiet Week one for the Packers. He played a
- 21:51Speaker 2: decent amount of snaps, but I think he only had
- 21:52Speaker 2: one target. He had a punt return, but a Mecca
- 21:56Speaker 2: Buca had a great game in his debut for Tampa,
- 21:58Speaker 2: a couple of touchdowns. I mean, he looks like with
- 22:00Speaker 2: Chris Godwin still hurt, I mean, he's gonna be thrust
- 22:03Speaker 2: into a big time role on day one, and he
- 22:06Speaker 2: certainly stepped up right away for for Tampa. Men tem
- 22:09Speaker 2: McMillan out in Carolina. Kind of how he comes along
- 22:13Speaker 2: with with his chemistry with Bryce Young and what that
- 22:15Speaker 2: offense does. He had a decent, decent start to the season.
- 22:19Speaker 2: So you know, personally, again being a Packers fan with
- 22:22Speaker 2: Golden in Green Bay, I'm gonna be kind of following,
- 22:25Speaker 2: you know, following that trajectory and kind of seeing where
- 22:27Speaker 2: those guys end up kind of slotting in throughout the
- 22:30Speaker 2: season and how they produce relative to one another. But
- 22:33Speaker 2: I do think it's going to be really fun because
- 22:35Speaker 2: I think all three of those guys in particular just
- 22:38Speaker 2: have phenomenal talents. You know, I would have been ecstatic
- 22:42Speaker 2: with any one of those three in the Packers' uniform
- 22:44Speaker 2: this season. Didn't even mention like some of the second rounders.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Jadon Higgins, I really like coming out of Iowa State
- 22:50Speaker 2: the guy for the Texans. So there's a lot of
- 22:53Speaker 2: exciting young playmakers and it's just gonna be a lot
- 22:57Speaker 2: of fun. I think to watch these guys because I
- 23:00Speaker 2: think a couple of them are are going to have
- 23:01Speaker 2: some pretty big breakout seasons. The bookend receivers for forever
- 23:05Speaker 2: right has been it's not till year two, maybe year
- 23:07Speaker 2: three that they start to break out, and guys has
- 23:09Speaker 2: started to break that mold. Jefferson really was the big
- 23:12Speaker 2: one a couple of years ago. Chase did it too,
- 23:14Speaker 2: But I think you got a good chance that, you know,
- 23:16Speaker 2: all three of those first rounders could be, you know,
- 23:18Speaker 2: approaching a thousand yards receiving by the end of this year,
- 23:22Speaker 2: and so it'll be it'll be a fun thing to
- 23:24Speaker 2: track as the season goes along.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Absolutely, it's a great under the under the radar storyline
- 23:28Speaker 1: for sure. And folks again, he is Evan techs Western
