- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up.
- 0:05Speaker 2: next to
- 0:07Speaker 2: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:09Speaker 2: and Joakim on the shock circuit. Good morning and welcome
- 0:13Speaker 2: to a wonderful Tuesday.
- 0:15Speaker 1: 2
- 0:16Speaker 1: more days before the start of PSLE. If you know
- 0:19Speaker 1: anyone in P6, give them a big
- 0:20Speaker 1: hug today.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure, we would love for you to text
- 0:23Speaker 2: us as well. Why not? We'll give them a shout out.
- 0:25Speaker 2: We're going to kick it off with Adele, Singapore's number
- 0:28Speaker 2: one hit music station.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Speaking of illegal, ah, I just came back from the
- 0:34Speaker 2: pantry slash the fridge area, OK, because you know me,
- 0:38Speaker 2: I do bring breakfast things and I do like prepare
- 0:42Speaker 2: my own breakfast and bring it to the office, right?
- 0:45Speaker 1: And the one important thing that you do is you
- 0:47Speaker 1: always write your name. I do write whatever you own.
- 0:50Speaker 2: So if I need to put it in the fridge,
- 0:52Speaker 2: I will write my name for sure, OK.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Just yesterday, I realized that the yogurt that I left
- 0:58Speaker 2: there on Friday because I couldn't finish like my entire breakfast,
- 1:01Speaker 2: so I decided not to open the yogurt at all.
- 1:03Speaker 2: I labeled it and put it in the fridge, OK.
- 1:06Speaker 2: So yesterday when I went to the fridge area, it
- 1:09Speaker 2: was gone.
- 1:10Speaker 2: And this is like the 2nd or 3rd time someone
- 1:13Speaker 2: has taken my breakfast. That was labeled.
- 1:16Speaker 1: At this point, our fridges a
- 1:18Speaker 2: CCTV. I know. So I, so I, I brought a
- 1:21Speaker 2: bunch of stuff today that I thought to myself, I
- 1:23Speaker 2: want to leave in the fridge because I, you know,
- 1:25Speaker 2: so that I can revisit it every day.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Um, but now I'm having second thoughts.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Can I
- 1:29Speaker 1: give you a reverse psychology? Instead of writing your name,
- 1:32Speaker 1: write my name.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Oh, see what happens.
- 1:35Speaker 2: But, but you never put your stuff there. And, but
- 1:38Speaker 2: here's the thing, every time someone gives you something, and
- 1:42Speaker 2: your name is labeled on it, you never eat it.
- 1:44Speaker 2: So it just sits in the fridge, then the auntie
- 1:45Speaker 2: will throw it away.
- 1:46Speaker 1: OK, so write my name and see.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Will the same person steal it? Maybe because this person
- 1:52Speaker 1: sees a, oh, Sonia Chew has this yoga. I'm gonna
- 1:55Speaker 1: take it and show people what she has for breakfast.
- 1:57Speaker 2: What? That makes zero sense. You never know. This is
- 2:00Speaker 2: our own company. I don't think anyone cares what we
- 2:02Speaker 2: have for
- 2:02Speaker 2: breakfast.
- 2:03Speaker 1: There are all sorts of people working for a company
- 2:05Speaker 1: here in Singapore. You never know.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Maybe they see your name, they're like, you're joking.
- 2:09Speaker 2: I think this one expired already. Exactly,
- 2:11Speaker 1: and it'll be still there.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. OK, good, good strategy. I'm gonna try it. OK, good.
- 2:17Speaker 2: I'll report back.
- 2:19Speaker 1: So you write my name on 4 out of 5 items.
- 2:22Speaker 1: The 5th write your name and see
- 2:23Speaker 2: what happens. I got 2 things
- 2:25Speaker 1: that I never mind
- 2:26Speaker 2: then. We just your name, my name, then we'll see
- 2:29Speaker 2: whether this experiment.
- 2:30Speaker 2: proves anything. OK.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Welcome to Jurong.
- 2:33Speaker 2: OK,
- 2:33Speaker 1: thank you. I'm gonna tell you the chronicles of a
- 2:35Speaker 1: 25 year old art student and music teacher who plays
- 2:39Speaker 1: the cello. So unfortunately for her, the flat below hers, right,
- 2:45Speaker 1: they keep changing tenants.
- 2:47Speaker 2: OK, so it's a rental, yeah,
- 2:49Speaker 1: yeah. So even though she's been
- 2:50Speaker 1: Living there for the last 10 years. Unfortunately, the latest
- 2:54Speaker 1: bunch of tenants, there are 4 students, I think they're
- 2:56Speaker 1: around like 20 to 22 years old. They've been complaining
- 3:00Speaker 1: to the town council or the powers that be that
- 3:04Speaker 1: our neighbor upstairs keeps playing the cello for 4 hours
- 3:09Speaker 1: in the afternoon and we can't rest.
- 3:11Speaker 2: OK, but it's in the afternoon though.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I need to practice and to be fair, I
- 3:22Speaker 1: only played between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. and I
- 3:25Speaker 1: at most practice for 2 hours and I finish by
- 3:28Speaker 1: 3 or 4
- 3:29Speaker 2: p.m. technically there are, there are rules about this, right?
- 3:32Speaker 2: Like right when it comes to
- 3:36Speaker 2: Your construction of your, your, you know, if you're doing
- 3:39Speaker 2: reno works, for example, they always have a cutoff point.
- 3:41Speaker 2: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. to 6 p.m. OK, I
- 3:44Speaker 2: also can't remember, like, I suppose it's around that time.
- 3:47Speaker 2: And if you kind of like or your work involves
- 3:50Speaker 2: some sort of sound or music, if you're kind of
- 3:52Speaker 2: also abiding by those similar times, it should be OK,
- 3:56Speaker 1: right? Yeah.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Where most people are not,
- 4:03Speaker 1: most
- 4:04Speaker 1: people in the stereotypical sense could be at work or
- 4:07Speaker 1: having a lunch break and all that. It's OK lah, fair.
- 4:10Speaker 1: But so even though there were complaints, the four tenants
- 4:13Speaker 1: and this student met each other face to face, saying, OK,
- 4:17Speaker 1: how can we agree here? Then they said, OK, can
- 4:19Speaker 1: you lower the volume, to which she agreed. For a
- 4:21Speaker 1: while it was OK, and then these 4 tenants complained
- 4:24Speaker 1: again,
- 4:24Speaker 2: yeah.
- 4:25Speaker 2: And what was the problem
- 4:26Speaker 2: now?
- 4:27Speaker 1: Uh, so there was like a mediation meeting which the
- 4:29Speaker 1: art student didn't show up for because she thinks I did,
- 4:32Speaker 1: I didn't do anything.
- 4:33Speaker 2: I didn't do anything wrong. OK.
- 4:34Speaker 1: And, and why is it only these bunch of tenants
- 4:37Speaker 2: complaining only one bunch
- 4:40Speaker 1: don't complain at all, you know what I mean? So
- 4:42Speaker 1: it might be a frustrating situation for her.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Like, OK, for example, if those tenants are working from home.
- 4:49Speaker 2: And they're constantly on calls, for example. Yeah, maybe it's distracting.
- 4:54Speaker 2: I mean, I was gonna say if you want to rest,
- 4:56Speaker 2: then you got to invest in a good pair of
- 4:57Speaker 2: earplugs because that's what I do. Unfortunately, we live in
- 5:02Speaker 2: a country where we are mostly in apartments, right? And
- 5:04Speaker 2: in apartment settings, even though, OK, condos generally are supposed
- 5:09Speaker 2: to have a bit better soundproofing, yes, but recently I
- 5:12Speaker 2: know I've got some neighbors as well who are doing
- 5:14Speaker 2: like some construction, ren works to their house.
- 5:17Speaker 2: They could be doing it like 5 floors above me.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Everyone can still hear it. So it gets, it can
- 5:22Speaker 2: get very frustrating. I literally wear my earplugs all the time.
- 5:25Speaker 2: I
- 5:26Speaker 1: mean, the, there is no 100% way to mask the
- 5:29Speaker 1: sounds of drilling and hammering, but maybe for the cello, I,
- 5:34Speaker 1: I guess the next best solution is she invests in
- 5:36Speaker 1: those carpets, then she plays it on it to reduce
- 5:39Speaker 1: the sound that might travel or
- 5:41Speaker 2: stick those the, the sponge, uh, you know, the sponge ball.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Things you see at the studio,
- 5:47Speaker 1: the, the,
- 5:48Speaker 2: yeah, sort of soundproofing. Just get that. I think it's
- 5:50Speaker 2: like a few cents only from the store.
- 5:52Speaker 1: But here's my
- 5:53Speaker 1: take, at least it's the cello. It sounds a lot
- 5:56Speaker 1: lower and easier to digest than an actual violin.
- 5:59Speaker 2: It's
- 5:59Speaker 2: true. It's true. And you know, if I were the
- 6:01Speaker 2: tenants every day I feel like I'm on the set
- 6:03Speaker 2: of Bridgerton, like, OK. True enough. Just before our story,
- 6:07Speaker 2: we do have one shout out coming through for our
- 6:10Speaker 2: PSLE students.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Wanna
- 6:11Speaker 1: say hello to.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Oscar from Kenosha Catholic Primary School. Oscar's in primary 5
- 6:17Speaker 1: and wants to wish all his friends good luck to
- 6:20Speaker 1: those taking the oral this week. All the best to you,
- 6:23Speaker 1: Oscar and
- 6:23Speaker 2: friends. Alright, so wait, this one is not like PSLE, right?
- 6:27Speaker 2: PSLE or done already. Yeah, this is normal, yeah, normal examination. OK.
- 6:31Speaker 2: All the best. You're gonna kill it. You're gonna slay it. Anyway, um,
- 6:35Speaker 2: this particular case, I don't know whether to face palm
- 6:39Speaker 2: or shake this guy, OK.
- 6:41Speaker 2: When I tell you the story, I think you're gonna,
- 6:42Speaker 2: you're gonna face palm first. Even though I, I want
- 6:45Speaker 2: so much to empathize with him, but at the same time,
- 6:47Speaker 2: I just like, please be more alert. This guy, he's
- 6:51Speaker 2: in his 40s.
- 6:53Speaker 2: He was chatting with a um what he thought or
- 6:56Speaker 2: who he thought was a Singaporean woman living abroad, OK,
- 7:00Speaker 2: and he chatted with her on and off for 3
- 7:02Speaker 2: years in total. So it's like a bit of an
- 7:05Speaker 2: online relationship almost like he's never seen her in person.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Every time he asks for video calls and stuff, like,
- 7:10Speaker 2: you know, she will make some excuse and say she's
- 7:13Speaker 2: busy or I can't.
- 7:14Speaker 2: I can't do that right now. For 3 years, yeah.
- 7:20Speaker 2: I know. So I'm just summarizing it very quickly for you,
- 7:22Speaker 2: but eventually, she starts asking him to invest in an
- 7:25Speaker 2: online business, OK? And she says like, oh, you know,
- 7:28Speaker 2: you can get like X amount of commission. It's a very,
- 7:31Speaker 2: very good deal, like, so she wrote him gained his
- 7:34Speaker 2: trust already, right?
- 7:36Speaker 2: Then he's like, OK, sure, you know, and she told him,
- 7:38Speaker 2: your role is the middleman, so you have to like
- 7:41Speaker 2: help customers place orders, but he has to pay first.
- 7:45Speaker 2: So he pays first, and then he gets like the
- 7:48Speaker 2: commission later and the money back, which is, uh, to me,
- 7:52Speaker 2: I'm just like, this is a classic scam case. Typical scam.
- 7:57Speaker 2: But he loses nearly $80,000.80 almost $100,000 OK.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Here's the kicker. He decides to get help from a lawyer,
- 8:07Speaker 2: but where does he find a lawyer? Online. He finds
- 8:10Speaker 2: a lawyer for help and he gets cheated by this
- 8:13Speaker 2: online lawyer for another, another $10,000.
- 8:18Speaker 2: To which I'm like, OK, he's not, he's in his 40s.
- 8:21Speaker 2: I wouldn't consider him like gullible or at the age
- 8:25Speaker 2: where you might be easily scammed. Like I worry about
- 8:29Speaker 2: our parents sometimes,
- 8:31Speaker 1: when it comes to scammers, some of them on your
- 8:33Speaker 1: desperation and also some of them prey on your loneliness.
- 8:38Speaker 1: And when we share with you about it here on 987,
- 8:39Speaker 1: it's easy for us to, to make comments like these,
- 8:44Speaker 1: but when you are neck deep in a scam.
- 8:46Speaker 1: It's very
- 8:47Speaker 1: hard to get out.
- 8:48Speaker 2: And this dude, now he's scared to make any sort
- 8:52Speaker 2: of friends online at all, you know, because he's got
- 8:54Speaker 2: two back to back terrible experiences. I think this guy
- 8:57Speaker 2: really needs to be less trusting. And if you're tuning
- 9:00Speaker 2: in right now, and you know, you've got grandparents at
- 9:03Speaker 2: home or like, you know, aunties, uncles, or even your parents,
- 9:06Speaker 2: just watch out for them sometimes, OK? Yeah, they, they
- 9:09Speaker 2: may not know what they're getting.
- 9:10Speaker 2: And not
- 9:11Speaker 1: just friends online, even in person as well. Yeah. You
- 9:14Speaker 1: never know who could be a scammer, so be careful
- 9:17Speaker 1: and be extra vigilant, especially if someone starts asking you
- 9:22Speaker 1: for money. Yeah,
- 9:23Speaker 2: your details, your personal details a question for you before we,
- 9:27Speaker 2: you know, move on. Here we go. Um, in my
- 9:29Speaker 2: next life, do you think I'll be a good scammer
- 9:32Speaker 2: in my life.
- 9:34Speaker 2: But next life already, no, not this life.
- 9:36Speaker 1: No, no, no,
- 9:36Speaker 1: no. Why? There will be some elements to you that
- 9:39Speaker 1: will stay
- 9:42Speaker 2: like my bad poker face.
- 9:43Speaker 1: You'll be a good scam victim. Can you
- 9:45Speaker 2: not? I'm already a good scam victim now
- 9:47Speaker 1: and maybe in your next life if Crime Watch is
- 9:50Speaker 1: still ongoing, you could feature as the scam
- 9:53Speaker 1: victim.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Can you, can you please have more faith in me?
- 9:55Speaker 2: I'll be the
- 9:55Speaker 1: poster girl for all those anti-scam in
- 9:57Speaker 2: my next life, can you at least give me something more,
- 9:59Speaker 2: you know, something cooler,
- 10:00Speaker 1: OK.
- 10:02Speaker 1: More height.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Well damn bad.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Only 7 a.m. in the morning roasting me. OK, time
- 10:08Speaker 2: for some boldo crime. We haven't done this in a while.
- 10:11Speaker 2: In case you're new to this. Boldo crime is a
- 10:13Speaker 2: little segment where we make light of a case that's
- 10:18Speaker 2: face palm worthy, but people are not hurt, you know,
- 10:21Speaker 2: it's never that serious. It's more like, why did this
- 10:24Speaker 2: person even try to do this?
- 10:26Speaker 1: OK, so do you sing the jingle, Sonia? Yes, let's
- 10:29Speaker 1: go. Here we go.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Bodo crime, crime, crime, crime.
- 10:33Speaker 1: And we're going to
- 10:35Speaker 2: the eccentric streets of East Coast, eccentricities, yeah. OK, anyway, um,
- 10:43Speaker 2: this man decided to break into a house, into a
- 10:48Speaker 2: shophouse rather, OK, you know, East Coast, there are a
- 10:50Speaker 2: lot of shophouses, right? So, um, you know, you would
- 10:55Speaker 2: think East Coast Road, East Coast. So around about a
- 10:57Speaker 2: similar area.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Um, so he was arrested for his suspected involvement because
- 11:03Speaker 2: $100 was stolen.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Why
- 11:10Speaker 1: for
- 11:10Speaker 1: $100.
- 11:11Speaker 2: So I wonder, because it's still under investigation right now.
- 11:14Speaker 2: I wonder whether there was an intention to steal more
- 11:17Speaker 2: than $100 in cash, but maybe couldn't find where the
- 11:22Speaker 2: hidden boxes were or like, you know, the the the
- 11:24Speaker 2: valuable items were.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Um, but I, I think it's just crazy that he
- 11:29Speaker 2: only got away with
- 11:30Speaker 2: 100
- 11:34Speaker 1: dollars in cash or digital,
- 11:34Speaker 2: right? So, um, what's happened, what's, what's gonna happen now
- 11:38Speaker 2: is the police, uh, have brought him in for housebreaking
- 11:41Speaker 2: and theft. These are two charges at a shop along
- 11:44Speaker 2: East Coast Road and um.
- 11:45Speaker 2: He was identified and arrested within like 4 hours of
- 11:48Speaker 2: the incident. So, you can't run too far away. Um,
- 11:52Speaker 2: there's a lot of images from police cameras, you know,
- 11:55Speaker 2: surveillance around the area and things like that. Um, this
- 11:58Speaker 2: is still undergoing investigation as to what is his relationship
- 12:02Speaker 2: to this shop or if there even is a relationship.
- 12:05Speaker 2: But this offense carries a jail term of up to
- 12:07Speaker 2: 10 years and a fine. So not worth it, bro.
- 12:10Speaker 1: It's the most expensive 100
- 12:13Speaker 2: dollars for him. And by the sound of it, I
- 12:15Speaker 2: don't even know whether he managed to spend that $100
- 12:17Speaker 2: on anything. I don't think so. And even if he did,
- 12:19Speaker 2: they'll seize it or whatever he bought it, right? Anyway, um,
- 12:23Speaker 2: the police are advising all of us, members of the
- 12:26Speaker 2: public and people who own shops and you know, yeah,
- 12:28Speaker 2: maybe you're in a trusting neighborhood, you have been there
- 12:30Speaker 2: a long time, but you never know. So please install
- 12:33Speaker 2: an alarm.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Um, motion sensor lights, and surveillance cameras, like don't take
- 12:37Speaker 2: things for granted is what the police are telling us.
- 12:40Speaker 2: And
- 12:40Speaker 1: use a door lock. The bicycle chain lock doesn't work anymore.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Trust me on this.
- 12:46Speaker 2: People are getting quite smart now. Be safe, my friends,
- 12:49Speaker 2: especially in the East Coast area. Let's not damage our name.
- 12:52Speaker 2: And
- 12:52Speaker 1: this has been.
- 12:57Speaker 2: The eccentric streets of East Coast.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Just, just kidding. My, my hood is my hood.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Yesterday when our friends over at LTA put out this statement,
- 13:07Speaker 1: and their announcement post on Instagram, everybody went,
- 13:11Speaker 2: yes. There
- 13:11Speaker 2: was a lot of, a lot of comments.
- 13:14Speaker 1: About time and this one involves our public buses and
- 13:17Speaker 1: bus interchanges. So I don't know whether will it also
- 13:19Speaker 1: apply to our MRTs very soon. I think it will.
- 13:22Speaker 1: There are new regulations to address nuisance behavior.
- 13:27Speaker 1: And nuisance behaviors include putting your feet up on any
- 13:32Speaker 1: part of the bus, playing audio at loud volumes, eating
- 13:37Speaker 1: or drinking on board buses, littering, and causing obstruction or
- 13:42Speaker 1: danger to others. So there'll be two steps, disruptive commuters, firstly,
- 13:48Speaker 1: the first step is the bus captain.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Or whoever is an official on board will say, hey,
- 13:54Speaker 1: can you please stop that? They'll give you one warning.
- 13:56Speaker 1: If you want to carry on being naughty, they'll give
- 13:59Speaker 1: you a notification of offense. No.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, that is the abbreviation.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Whoever planned it, well done. You definitely knew what you
- 14:12Speaker 1: were doing for this, OK? And then once they issue
- 14:15Speaker 1: you a ticket, LTA will step in to conduct an investigation.
- 14:19Speaker 1: So non-compliance will also result in a warning or fine
- 14:23Speaker 1: of up to $500.
- 14:25Speaker 1: For more serious offenses, you could face a fine up
- 14:29Speaker 1: to $5000 and repeat offenders will face higher penalties.
- 14:33Speaker 2: So what about that lady that kept putting her feet
- 14:35Speaker 2: on the on the rails? Like what, what, how does
- 14:38Speaker 2: that conclude?
- 14:39Speaker 1: If she still wants to do it and if the
- 14:41Speaker 1: bus captain wants to enforce the no.
- 14:46Speaker 1: She'll be
- 14:46Speaker 1: issued one,
- 14:47Speaker 2: but she's beyond notification of offense. This is like how
- 14:50Speaker 2: many times has she done it?
- 14:51Speaker 1: Yeah, so again, repeat offenders will be subjected to a
- 14:54Speaker 1: higher penalty, and I want to just, uh, put a
- 14:57Speaker 1: small note here. LT actually put a very big star
- 15:00Speaker 1: on new regulations. The star says commuters with physical or
- 15:04Speaker 1: mental conditions will be assessed with discretion. There you
- 15:07Speaker 2: go. Well, that's fair. I think, um, there are quite
- 15:10Speaker 2: a number of them that sometimes I read the news
- 15:12Speaker 2: about these things, right? I feel.
- 15:14Speaker 2: I hope that they get the help they need,
- 15:16Speaker 1: you know. I want to give a shout out to
- 15:18Speaker 1: this TikTok user. If I'm not wrong, I think his
- 15:20Speaker 1: name is Joshua, where he's going around giving out free
- 15:23Speaker 1: earbuds
- 15:24Speaker 2: or earphones to
- 15:26Speaker 1: people who are blasting the audio from their handphone to
- 15:30Speaker 1: the point where he documents them. He blurs out the faces, yeah, yeah.
- 15:32Speaker 1: But when he offers, right, immediately the uncle, aunt, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry,
- 15:37Speaker 1: they get the
- 15:37Speaker 2: point. No, but I saw, I saw one that was
- 15:40Speaker 2: like free one.
- 15:43Speaker 2: I think I remember seeing someone asking that, like one
- 15:46Speaker 2: of the aunties. Yeah,
- 15:47Speaker 1: OK, so I shall be your public transport monitor and
- 15:50Speaker 1: let you know if anything
- 15:52Speaker 1: were to happen. OK.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Were you ever a bus monitor in school? No, no, no,
- 15:56Speaker 2: I wasn't. I wasn't either. I
- 15:58Speaker 1: was a very bad bus.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Oh really?
- 16:00Speaker 1: I was quite noisy on
- 16:01Speaker 1: board.
- 16:01Speaker 2: So you're the one that, oh, I'm the one that.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Super quiet and I'm very annoyed with people like you.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Yeah, not the loudspeakers putting my feet up, but in
- 16:08Speaker 1: terms of, I might be issued with a no.
- 16:13Speaker 2: I don't, I think it's beyond that, Joe. I think
- 16:15Speaker 2: you just immediately detention back in school. Earlier on a
- 16:19Speaker 2: few minutes ago, I asked Joakim like if he would
- 16:21Speaker 2: ever move or relocate overseas to which
- 16:25Speaker 2: Um, you said in the event that you do, it's
- 16:27Speaker 2: most likely gonna be UK or Europe. Yes, for sure.
- 16:30Speaker 2: But that being said, um, even places like New Zealand,
- 16:33Speaker 2: because I know you like, you know, nature and things
- 16:35Speaker 2: like that, these places are not exactly much cheaper than Singapore,
- 16:38Speaker 2: to be very honest, especially with
- 16:41Speaker 2: The currency exchange.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Got to
- 16:43Speaker 1: make sure that in parallel life, yeah, I'm doing a
- 16:45Speaker 1: very good job, earning well to be able to move
- 16:48Speaker 1: there to live abroad for a
- 16:50Speaker 1: while.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I completely agree. Um, so I want to
- 16:53Speaker 2: give a big shout out to this Singaporean man. Um,
- 16:55Speaker 2: his name is Alden, and he decided to move to
- 16:59Speaker 2: Thailand at just 26 years old. OK. Now he's 40.
- 17:03Speaker 2: He's been there for over a decade already and he's
- 17:07Speaker 2: actually raising his family there in Thailand. Yeah.
- 17:09Speaker 2: And he was interviewed because I think people were quite
- 17:12Speaker 2: curious about his story. Um, there are quite a number
- 17:15Speaker 2: of Singaporeans who have moved overseas for their own reasons,
- 17:17Speaker 2: who have been work and all that. Likewise, how Singapore
- 17:20Speaker 2: is a very attractive country for other people to want
- 17:22Speaker 2: to move here too. Um, he said, would I ever
- 17:25Speaker 2: go back to live in Singapore after living in Thailand
- 17:27Speaker 2: for more than 10 years? The answer is probably no
- 17:30Speaker 2: at this point, because we live a really peaceful, friendly, awesome,
- 17:35Speaker 2: slow pace of life outside of the.
- 17:37Speaker 2: and things are much cheaper here. I even managed to
- 17:41Speaker 2: start a small business and I'm raising my family
- 17:43Speaker 2: here.
- 17:43Speaker 1: I want to highlight one phrase that people enjoy using
- 17:47Speaker 1: when they move abroad, slow pace. It doesn't mean they
- 17:50Speaker 1: are lazy or they don't work as hard. It's perhaps
- 17:54Speaker 1: maybe less demanding as to what maybe here in Singapore entails,
- 18:00Speaker 1: you know what
- 18:00Speaker 1: I mean?
- 18:00Speaker 2: I wonder whether it's also because, you know, our country
- 18:03Speaker 2: is so small and as you know.
- 18:05Speaker 2: With our culture, I mean, it is quite an Asian
- 18:08Speaker 2: thing that we compare ourselves to each other. Would I
- 18:11Speaker 2: even call it an Asian thing? I think it's a
- 18:12Speaker 2: human thing.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Singapore.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's even worse when we are in a
- 18:16Speaker 2: very concentrated area with, you know, um, comparison left, right
- 18:21Speaker 2: and center, right? You just want your kids to go
- 18:24Speaker 2: to a better school, you want to live in the
- 18:25Speaker 2: nicer condo, you want to drive the nicer car, you know.
- 18:28Speaker 2: Things like that. So maybe to him, he, he just
- 18:31Speaker 2: feels like this is a good pace of life for him,
- 18:33Speaker 2: and I think many Singaporeans might feel the same way.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Does it
- 18:36Speaker 1: say what he doing in Thailand?
- 18:38Speaker 2: He's running
- 18:38Speaker 2: his own business. That's all they're saying. And the thing
- 18:41Speaker 2: is they didn't exactly, he didn't exactly specify which area
- 18:44Speaker 2: in Thailand exactly, but I would hazard a guess to
- 18:47Speaker 2: say Bangkok because his kids going to school and stuff
- 18:50Speaker 2: like that.
- 18:50Speaker 2: So, probably one of the bigger cities. I'm not sure. Yeah.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Congratulations to Alden and I'm very sure he's just one
- 18:57Speaker 1: of the many stories that we have of Singaporeans living overseas.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure. Look at my group of friends, like
- 19:03Speaker 2: when they came back for my wedding,
- 19:05Speaker 1: very diverse,
- 19:06Speaker 2: yeah, yeah, yeah. Half of them to New Zealand,
- 19:09Speaker 1: Mexico, Japan,
- 19:11Speaker 2: everywhere the worldwide.
- 19:13Speaker 2: I know my friends are very international now, like ever
- 19:16Speaker 2: since we graduated from school. So, hey, um, you know,
- 19:20Speaker 2: if you are at the age or stage of life
- 19:22Speaker 2: where you just want to discover things overseas, so why not?
- 19:25Speaker 1: Same question back at you. Why do I feel you
- 19:28Speaker 1: pick the US?
- 19:29Speaker 2: Actually, you might be surprised at my answer. I don't
- 19:33Speaker 2: think I've ever envisioned myself living overseas.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Am I surprising you?
- 19:38Speaker 1: Yeah, a little bit. Pick one, pick one.
- 19:40Speaker 2: If I had to pick
- 19:42Speaker 1: for work and all that, if we weren't radio producer
- 19:45Speaker 1: presenters and all,
- 19:46Speaker 2: you're right, maybe New York.
- 19:48Speaker 1: New York there you go.
- 19:49Speaker 2: I really like New York. I know that you don't
- 19:50Speaker 2: like New York, so no, not,
- 19:52Speaker 1: not I don't like it. I was underwhelmed when I
- 19:55Speaker 1: went to Times Square. I was like, huh, that's
- 19:57Speaker 2: it. OK, but you can't look. New Yorkers won't advise.
- 20:00Speaker 2: I
- 20:01Speaker 1: know, I know, it's
- 20:02Speaker 2: just like.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Parisians will say like skip the Eiffel Tower, you know
- 20:05Speaker 2: what I mean?
- 20:05Speaker 1: But, but I did enjoy Central Park.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Yes, it's beautiful.
- 20:09Speaker 1: I did enjoy running down the Hudson Bay River River
- 20:12Speaker 1: area where it's quite near the One World Trade Center
- 20:15Speaker 1: and artichoke pizza. I got to go back with the food,
- 20:18Speaker 2: man. Yeah, actually that's so good. Plenty more for you
- 20:21Speaker 2: to explore. I think you just didn't live the life
- 20:23Speaker 2: there enough. It was just. Yeah, you need to go
- 20:26Speaker 2: there for longer. Maybe you will change your mind, but
- 20:28Speaker 2: Um, you know, hopefully things are a little bit better
- 20:31Speaker 2: now there and a little bit more stable too. I
- 20:34Speaker 2: think some of my friends who are based in the
- 20:36Speaker 2: US for like work and stuff, they said, yeah, you know,
- 20:38Speaker 2: it's up and down. So, as with every country, I guess.
- 20:42Speaker 2: I'm quite angry, though, when I heard this story, OK. Um,
- 20:45Speaker 2: it's got to do with, uh, one of my oldest,
- 20:48Speaker 2: longest friends, closest friends of mine, OK, and um, she
- 20:52Speaker 2: is not based in Singapore at this point in time.
- 20:56Speaker 2: But um I heard of what happened and it's it's
- 21:00Speaker 2: regarding her relationship, OK?
- 21:02Speaker 2: So, I don't know if you've ever been in a
- 21:05Speaker 2: situation where you were seeing someone that happened to be
- 21:08Speaker 2: quite close to their ex. Many times, many times when
- 21:13Speaker 2: I was younger that they were still very, very close
- 21:16Speaker 2: friends with their ex or what, what did they say?
- 21:18Speaker 1: They say close friends lah but little did I know.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Yeah, there was more than that.
- 21:23Speaker 2: OK, yeah, so see, here's the thing, right? It's always that.
- 21:26Speaker 2: The ex that, you know, you, you, you, you always
- 21:30Speaker 2: defend and say like, no, no, we're just friends. It's
- 21:33Speaker 2: all good, you know, what was that phrase again? The,
- 21:35Speaker 2: the ex I told you not to worry about that phrase, right?
- 21:39Speaker 2: Super applicable today. Um, wait till I break down this story.
- 21:43Speaker 2: I feel really bad for my friend, to be honest,
- 21:45Speaker 2: and I would love, you know, our listeners' thoughts on
- 21:47Speaker 2: it too, and your thoughts as well.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Um, everyone's gonna be anonymous. There's no names here whatsoever. Um,
- 21:53Speaker 2: she doesn't even live here, so don't try stalking to
- 21:56Speaker 2: find out like who it is.
- 21:57Speaker 1: I cannot wait
- 21:58Speaker 1: for this girl. I'm set. I'm ready.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Joakim wants to be one of the girls, by the way.
- 22:02Speaker 2: He's he's just begging for it all the time. Honestly,
- 22:06Speaker 2: that girl he told you not to worry about, I think,
- 22:09Speaker 2: perfect song to come out of. Could be the
- 22:11Speaker 1: other way around as well.
- 22:12Speaker 2: The other way around, it could be the other way around, but, uh,
- 22:14Speaker 2: for my friend, unfortunately, it was that girl he told
- 22:17Speaker 2: her not to worry about, OK. So everyone's anonymous, of course,
- 22:21Speaker 2: not going to say who it is, and she's very
- 22:23Speaker 2: low-key anyway, not in Singapore at all. So, uh, what
- 22:27Speaker 2: happened was this particular relationship, you know, I, I've known
- 22:31Speaker 2: them to have gone out together for like
- 22:34Speaker 2: Years now, at least 5 years or so, at least, OK, yeah,
- 22:39Speaker 2: at least. And I think at one point there were
- 22:42Speaker 2: even talks about like, what's going to happen in the future,
- 22:44Speaker 2: like if they want to start a family and things
- 22:46Speaker 2: like that.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Yeah,
- 22:49Speaker 2: so we were quite excited for my friend. We were like, oh,
- 22:51Speaker 2: that's really, that's really cool, like, you know, we're fully
- 22:54Speaker 2: supportive of you. Let us know how we can be
- 22:56Speaker 2: there for you or how we can help and yeah, overall,
- 22:59Speaker 2: just hey, congrats, new phase of life, you know, that
- 23:01Speaker 2: you're considering about.
- 23:03Speaker 2: And uh little did we realize, uh, over the years,
- 23:06Speaker 2: I mean, she has brought this up to us before
- 23:09Speaker 2: about how this guy she's seeing is still quite close
- 23:13Speaker 2: to his ex, OK? And, and he always assures her, no, no, no,
- 23:16Speaker 2: we're we're still very good friends because we've got a
- 23:18Speaker 2: big history. We used to be, um, we used to
- 23:21Speaker 2: stay in the same like dorm or something like that.
- 23:23Speaker 2: And uh they are also part of like a trio,
- 23:26Speaker 2: so it's like the three of them that are very
- 23:29Speaker 2: close that used to share a dormitory together back in
- 23:32Speaker 2: school or something like that, OK. So then she's like, OK, fine, like,
- 23:36Speaker 2: you know, what can I do, right? We're all adults
- 23:38Speaker 2: here anyway, so if you want to still continue to
- 23:40Speaker 2: be friends with your ex, then so be it. Maybe
- 23:41Speaker 2: it's really that kind of platonic friendship.
- 23:44Speaker 2: That I have with one or two of my exes,
- 23:48Speaker 2: but I wouldn't consider us like super close.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Yeah, every day.
- 23:53Speaker 2: No, definitely not all the time.
- 23:54Speaker 1: You ask them about their day and all that. Maybe
- 23:56Speaker 2: like once in a while if we happen to find
- 23:59Speaker 2: ourselves in the same country.
- 24:00Speaker 2: Or like, oh, hey, hey, catch up lah, and you
- 24:02Speaker 2: know kind of thing, OK, but that I can count
- 24:03Speaker 2: with one hand the amount of times we've done that, right?
- 24:06Speaker 2: So she kind of expressed her concerns about this ex
- 24:10Speaker 2: to us before, like our friends, and she said, Is
- 24:12Speaker 2: there anything you think I should be worried about? We're like, well,
- 24:15Speaker 2: if he's assuring you and if he's, you know, making
- 24:19Speaker 2: sure that he appeases your worries and stuff, then maybe
- 24:22Speaker 2: give him a chance, lah, right? You know, he's a
- 24:24Speaker 2: nice guy. We met him a couple of times, uh,
- 24:27Speaker 2: but turns out, fast forward, um, a couple of years now.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Unfortunately, I think this guy has realized he still has
- 24:34Speaker 2: feelings for his ex.
- 24:38Speaker 2: And we consider us shocked because it's been so long
- 24:42Speaker 2: now and we truly will believe this guy when he
- 24:46Speaker 2: said that this ex is nothing to worry about.
- 24:49Speaker 1: You
- 24:49Speaker 1: can be like this. Yeah, and
- 24:55Speaker 2: you know, the part that irked me the most was
- 24:58Speaker 2: when my friend got uncomfortable about his relationship with the ex, right?
- 25:03Speaker 2: She said, do you think it's OK if you remove
- 25:06Speaker 2: yourself from this group chat? Like, why do you still
- 25:08Speaker 2: need to be part of this chat that's pinging off
- 25:10Speaker 2: every single day, and you guys are talking every single day,
- 25:14Speaker 2: like more than, more than me, right?
- 25:17Speaker 2: And unfortunately, this guy went to tell the ex lah.
- 25:19Speaker 2: He said, um, he said, oh, my current partner is
- 25:22Speaker 2: not too comfortable with me being in this uh group chat,
- 25:25Speaker 2: to which the ex said, oh, she's crazy.
- 25:28Speaker 2: And I was like, excuse me, girl, clearly not a
- 25:31Speaker 2: girl's girl
- 25:31Speaker 1: here. The boyfriend could phrased it.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Well, I'm paraphrasing. I'm paraphrasing because I don't know what
- 25:38Speaker 2: actually transpired in that conversation, but that's the gist of
- 25:41Speaker 2: what happened. So consider us quite mad at him right
- 25:45Speaker 2: now for allowing this to happen.
- 25:48Speaker 2: And um I think my friend's putting on a strong front,
- 25:50Speaker 2: but I really hope that she's OK. It's just that
- 25:52Speaker 2: we're not in the same country. We can't comfort her,
- 25:55Speaker 2: you know, to
- 25:56Speaker 1: judge, but I'm the boyfriend or girlfriend and I had
- 25:58Speaker 1: to leave the group chat with my ex and I
- 26:00Speaker 1: said something like, oh, my current partner is not happy,
- 26:04Speaker 2: you're
- 26:04Speaker 2: villainizing your partner.
- 26:07Speaker 2: And if it's for a valid reason, then you make
- 26:09Speaker 2: it your own decision to remove yourself from the chair.
- 26:12Speaker 1: And look, I've been on the receiving end of this
- 26:14Speaker 1: as well. Oh my boyfriend isn't too happy that I'm
- 26:16Speaker 1: talking to you. I mean, I'm their boyfriend and I'm like, guys,
- 26:19Speaker 1: do you not see anything wrong here? and true enough
- 26:22Speaker 1: in two months they
- 26:24Speaker 1: got together.
- 26:24Speaker 2: They were cheating on me.
- 26:27Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, OK, OK, wait, I think
- 26:29Speaker 2: I know which one
- 26:30Speaker 1: long time ago, yeah, yeah, yeah, a long time
- 26:32Speaker 2: ago. I sort of remember
- 26:33Speaker 2: this story
- 26:34Speaker 1: when when Singapore at the Singapore fireworks show, if you
- 26:37Speaker 1: remember that at the
- 26:38Speaker 1: Esplanade. No,
- 26:40Speaker 2: sorry, I didn't know you back then. You just told
- 26:42Speaker 2: me about this story, yes, yes, OK.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Give us a call 669-11987 or drop us a message 90050987.
- 26:52Speaker 2: You can stay anonymous if you like. Have you ever
- 26:54Speaker 2: found yourself in a situation where, you know, you're kind
- 26:57Speaker 2: of worried about your partner's ex, and they always say,
- 26:59Speaker 2: don't worry, don't worry, don't worry.
- 27:01Speaker 2: But it turns out there's something there. Either one of
- 27:04Speaker 2: them has feelings for each other, still harboring feelings or something,
- 27:07Speaker 2: or maybe you can just tell us what your thoughts
- 27:09Speaker 2: are on keeping in touch with your ex at all,
- 27:12Speaker 2: especially when you're already in another serious relationship. OK. This
- 27:16Speaker 2: I feel super relevant to us.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Because we must have had experienced it at least once
- 27:20Speaker 2: in our lives.
- 27:21Speaker 1: One
- 27:21Speaker 1: coming in from WL. Hey guys, I never believe in
- 27:24Speaker 1: keeping in contact with an ex because the feelings will
- 27:27Speaker 1: definitely come back. Don't get why there's a need to
- 27:30Speaker 1: keep in contact, honestly. There are about 6 million people
- 27:32Speaker 1: here in Singapore. Why do we need that one person?
- 27:36Speaker 2: True, true, but when you look back, you still have
- 27:39Speaker 2: one or two exes that you are kind of friends with, right?
- 27:43Speaker 1: I want to open up. Um, yes, so the last
- 27:47Speaker 1: relationship I was in ended six years ago, but I
- 27:50Speaker 1: would still call her a friend. We care for each
- 27:53Speaker 1: other but not in that I love you, I want
- 27:55Speaker 1: to be with.
- 27:56Speaker 1: I think we will always want the best for each other,
- 27:59Speaker 1: but there are clear boundaries, you know, we, we don't
- 28:01Speaker 1: text each other every day like we're still dating or
- 28:04Speaker 1: we don't say things like, oh, I miss you, or
- 28:06Speaker 1: I miss how, how it was
- 28:08Speaker 2: like. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I get it it's not correct.
- 28:10Speaker 2: I think um it's tough when it just happened like
- 28:14Speaker 2: the breakup.
- 28:16Speaker 2: I understand that you probably need some time to to
- 28:19Speaker 2: get to the point where you can fully call that
- 28:21Speaker 2: person a friend, and in that period of time, if
- 28:24Speaker 2: you're still meeting each other so much, then you'll never
- 28:25Speaker 2: be able to let go. Exactly. Yeah, your feelings will
- 28:28Speaker 2: still linger for sure.
- 28:35Speaker 1: I'm sure there's something there because at some point, especially
- 28:38Speaker 1: if it's a good relationship, but you have to split
- 28:41Speaker 1: because of differences or you know circumstances in life.
- 28:46Speaker 1: That person at some point in time was the closest
- 28:49Speaker 1: confidant or
- 28:50Speaker 1: closest person to you, yeah,
- 28:51Speaker 2: that knows everything. I'm saying hi to Jay. Hey, morning. Um,
- 28:57Speaker 2: a relationship with your ex is a big red flag.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Can you imagine?
- 29:01Speaker 2: Someone that you talk to every day, everything, the person
- 29:03Speaker 2: you once trusted the most, then you just become friends. Unbelievable.
- 29:07Speaker 2: As a person who loves fully, regardless of how the
- 29:10Speaker 2: relationship ends, it's almost impossible to just be friends as
- 29:14Speaker 2: if nothing happened before. Very, very on point with that message,
- 29:18Speaker 2: I would say.
- 29:19Speaker 1: Again, there has to be boundaries. Got a text from
- 29:23Speaker 1: Nicholas and Nicholas, I want to say thank you very much.
- 29:25Speaker 1: much for opening up and sharing your story with us
- 29:27Speaker 1: here on 987. Hey guys, long story short, I was
- 29:30Speaker 1: married in 1999, planning for kids, but I had a
- 29:34Speaker 1: renal mishap and lifelong dialysis. Continued for many years until
- 29:39Speaker 1: I felt my then missus needed to move on and
- 29:42Speaker 1: I amicably separated with her. We are still very good
- 29:46Speaker 1: pals today. That was a blessing because when I went
- 29:48Speaker 1: back to stay with my mom.
- 29:50Speaker 1: She had cancer and it was a blessing. I was
- 29:53Speaker 1: with her to the end in 2015. In between, I
- 29:56Speaker 1: had a transplant and my ex-wife got married again and
- 29:58Speaker 1: had a kid, so we both got our gifts in
- 30:00Speaker 1: a way. That said, I met a girl in 2014
- 30:03Speaker 1: and we are happily married now for almost 10 plus years.
- 30:06Speaker 1: God knows what I needed. My current wife knows that
- 30:09Speaker 1: I'm still quite pally with my ex-wife, but she trusts.
- 30:12Speaker 1: And knows we are like that because my ex-wife saw
- 30:15Speaker 1: me through a toughest time and that bond cannot be broken.
- 30:20Speaker 2: OK. Thank you so much for sharing.
- 30:24Speaker 1: I think on that note, for example, that were to
- 30:27Speaker 1: happen to me, I'll be completely understanding, you know what,
- 30:31Speaker 1: you saw a very tough time just don't hurt me.
- 30:34Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. No, I, I completely understand. I mean, I
- 30:37Speaker 2: think there are ways to still maintain a friendship with
- 30:40Speaker 2: an ex, but yet at the same time, assure your
- 30:43Speaker 2: partner in a way where, you know, your partner knows
- 30:46Speaker 2: there's nothing else going on, for sure.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Start acting suss about it, then maybe that's an issue.
- 30:57Speaker 2: But see, that's the thing, it's not so black and white, right? It's,
- 31:01Speaker 2: it can be quite a gray area sometimes, but
- 31:03Speaker 1: I wanna say hello to anonymous texter number 1 today. Hey, Sojo,
- 31:08Speaker 1: please keep me anonymous. When I was together with my
- 31:10Speaker 1: ex 5 years ago, he was training to be a
- 31:14Speaker 1: personal trainer.
- 31:15Speaker 1: And I walked him through every single step of the beginning.
- 31:18Speaker 1: I saw him suffer. I saw him struggle with some certifications,
- 31:22Speaker 1: but I promised him that when he does become a PT,
- 31:25Speaker 1: I'll be his first client. We broke up on amicable terms.
- 31:30Speaker 1: We realized we had some personality differences, but when he
- 31:33Speaker 1: became a PT, I still became his first client as
- 31:35Speaker 1: a small promise to support him, and now he has
- 31:38Speaker 1: many clients under his belt. Congrats to
- 31:40Speaker 1: him.
- 31:41Speaker 2: That's sweet. You know, I, I, I feel like there
- 31:43Speaker 2: is a difference sometimes when
- 31:45Speaker 2: You keep in touch with your ex because you're still
- 31:48Speaker 2: harboring feelings for each other or on the flip side, um,
- 31:52Speaker 2: I do have, I can say maybe at least one
- 31:55Speaker 2: guy that I used to date, that I still kind
- 31:58Speaker 2: of consider him like a bit of a family member
- 32:01Speaker 2: kind of, kind of feeling because I got, I was
- 32:03Speaker 2: quite close to his family, and I'm still in touch
- 32:06Speaker 2: with like his sibling and like sometimes I still run
- 32:08Speaker 2: into his mom here and there. So, I do still
- 32:11Speaker 2: feel like there's a sense of like a family bond
- 32:13Speaker 2: in a way, but nothing more than that.
- 32:15Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know my current partner has met him many,
- 32:18Speaker 2: many times, just, just running into him outside.
- 32:25Speaker 2: So
- 32:25Speaker 1: yeah, I think it takes to really see it.
- 32:30Speaker 2: But if your gut feeling is telling you something is
- 32:32Speaker 2: off about that, right? Sometimes you might be right, you know.
- 32:35Speaker 1: And that's what I hate about my guts
- 32:39Speaker 2: always worked.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Liz, what about you? What are your thoughts? OK, so, uh,
- 32:45Speaker 2: me and my husband, we, yeah, we didn't say that, oh,
- 32:48Speaker 2: this exes you need to look out for whatsoever. It's
- 32:51Speaker 2: just that, uh, we ended up, we end things in
- 32:54Speaker 2: a nice way. And then, um, recently, both of our exes, uh,
- 32:59Speaker 2: just got married, so we were happy for
- 33:01Speaker 1: them
- 33:01Speaker 2: and
- 33:01Speaker 1: we
- 33:02Speaker 2: congratulate them. So yeah. Oh, did you attend their wedding?
- 33:06Speaker 1: Uh, no, no, no, no, I think it was,
- 33:08Speaker 2: uh, you know, instead of waiting for them, so, yeah,
- 33:11Speaker 2: but we, we, we are still friends,
- 33:13Speaker 1: so
- 33:13Speaker 2: yeah.
- 33:13Speaker 1: What, what was the conversation like with your husband and
- 33:16Speaker 1: both of you revealed that hey, we're still good with
- 33:17Speaker 1: no boundaries are being crossed? What was the like
- 33:21Speaker 2: it was just there and then like, you know.
- 33:23Speaker 2: OK, you know, I've been with this person and then
- 33:26Speaker 2: nothing happened, you know, that kind of thing. So we
- 33:29Speaker 2: trust each other and then that's how we, you know,
- 33:32Speaker 2: we move forward in
- 33:33Speaker 1: life.
- 33:35Speaker 2: I love it. And you know what, Liz, you sound
- 33:36Speaker 2: so happy. Like your energy is infectious. I love that
- 33:39Speaker 2: about you.
- 33:41Speaker 2: And we've never met. I'm just hearing your voice from
- 33:44Speaker 2: the
- 33:44Speaker 1: phone. We're smiling in the studio. Thank you so much.
- 33:46Speaker 1: Thank you. Thank
- 33:47Speaker 2: you for sharing a different perspective. You have a great day, OK?
- 33:50Speaker 2: Take care. You too. Bye-bye. Um, TLDR, in case you
- 33:54Speaker 2: just joined us, she was in a relationship for some time,
- 33:57Speaker 2: like many years, and, um, her, her now ex-boyfriend always
- 34:02Speaker 2: said that, oh, you know, um, my ex is just
- 34:04Speaker 2: a friend, you know, we're just very close because we
- 34:06Speaker 2: shared a bit.
- 34:07Speaker 2: History together. We were roommates at once, at one point, um,
- 34:10Speaker 2: but don't worry, there's nothing going on. But guess what?
- 34:12Speaker 2: Fast forward years later, it turns out he just admitted
- 34:15Speaker 2: that he still has feelings for his ex
- 34:19Speaker 2: and,
- 34:19Speaker 2: and he basically just carried on with this relationship with
- 34:22Speaker 2: my friend for so many years, maybe suppressing his feelings
- 34:26Speaker 2: for the ex this whole time.
- 34:27Speaker 1: Not, not to defend, right, but if it's a sudden discovery,
- 34:32Speaker 1: would you appreciate the honesty?
- 34:35Speaker 1: As compared to him hiding it from you?
- 34:39Speaker 2: I would. I mean, I would, I'd rather know now
- 34:41Speaker 2: than if we like start to plan our future for real.
- 34:46Speaker 2: It can be, yeah, it's like how did you realize
- 34:48Speaker 2: this time?
- 34:50Speaker 1: OK, we have anonymous text coming in. Let me start
- 34:53Speaker 1: with the very first one. So, I used to be
- 34:55Speaker 1: an insurance agent and I dated my colleague. We're in
- 34:59Speaker 1: the same group doing sales and all that.
- 35:01Speaker 1: But this guy ended up cheating on me with another colleague.
- 35:04Speaker 2: Oh
- 35:05Speaker 2: scandal.
- 35:06Speaker 1: I
- 35:06Speaker 1: found out and I confronted him. He broke up with
- 35:09Speaker 1: the ex-colleague, or so he says, because that person left
- 35:14Speaker 1: the industry and they were still together, the current boyfriend
- 35:18Speaker 1: and girlfriend, but with the ex-colleague they were still communicating
- 35:22Speaker 1: on a separate handphone,
- 35:24Speaker 2: on
- 35:24Speaker 2: a separate phone altogether like a burner phone. Yeah,
- 35:28Speaker 2: that's dodgy
- 35:29Speaker 1: and this anonymous person found out.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Confronted him again and broke up.
- 35:34Speaker 2: End of story. End of story. OK. Last anonymous texter
- 35:37Speaker 1: here. One more coming in. So, what I strongly believe
- 35:41Speaker 1: in relationships is transparency. My girlfriend back then was known
- 35:45Speaker 1: for having lots of admirers and occasionally she will flip
- 35:48Speaker 1: back and forth to the point where they
- 35:50Speaker 1: Attached. She's charming. So when I was with her, she
- 35:52Speaker 1: would introduce them, people who were her situationships back then,
- 35:56Speaker 1: and I would think nothing of it because I believed her, uh,
- 35:58Speaker 1: that they're just friends. After a few months of us dating,
- 36:01Speaker 1: I found out the real story, and the outcome was
- 36:04Speaker 1: not pretty, to say the least. If this was shared upfront,
- 36:07Speaker 1: I would have reacted differently.
- 36:09Speaker 1: Conclusion is if your partner chooses to be friends with
- 36:11Speaker 1: their ex or someone that used to have a thing with,
- 36:13Speaker 1: please be transparent about it. It is not fair for
- 36:16Speaker 1: both parties.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Oh man, I guess she was a Painful. Oh no.
- 36:23Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 36:24Speaker 2: Thank you so much for opening up and sharing with us.
- 36:25Speaker 2: We have plenty of anonymous messages here today, um, some
- 36:28Speaker 2: calls as well, so we really appreciate those. But
- 36:31Speaker 1: we go from love stories and all that to being petty. Oh,
- 36:35Speaker 1: how petty can
- 36:36Speaker 1: you be?
- 36:37Speaker 2: Um, actually I'm not a very petty person. I'm quite,
- 36:39Speaker 2: I let go of things quite quickly. Oh, OK. Yeah, yeah.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Good, good, very good. Uh, that means you won't be
- 36:44Speaker 1: able to relate to Girls and their management. What's going
- 36:48Speaker 1: on with them?
- 36:50Speaker 1: Um, I'm gonna show you a classic picture of Girls' Generation,
- 36:54Speaker 1: which was posted 22 hours ago, and in the picture,
- 36:59Speaker 1: they say the second mini album, Jeannie, the music video
- 37:03Speaker 1: has surpassed 100 million views
- 37:07Speaker 1: on YouTube.
- 37:11Speaker 2: So what, what, where's the pettiness from? What's happening? So,
- 37:16Speaker 1: can you please count how many members are there in
- 37:19Speaker 1: the picture?
- 37:20Speaker 2: 12,
- 37:20Speaker 2: 3456712345678. Yeah, OK. Can you, can you, can you see
- 37:29Speaker 2: that a little closer? Go,
- 37:30Speaker 1: go, go, go.
- 37:31Speaker 2: Is it missing someone?
- 37:32Speaker 1: You are absolutely right.
- 37:35Speaker 2: Wait, are these throwback pictures? Yes, right?
- 37:38Speaker 1: from the genie days,
- 37:39Speaker 1: yeah.
- 37:40Speaker 2: OK, someone here is missing only because I met her before.
- 37:44Speaker 2: It's Jessica.
- 37:45Speaker 1: You are absolutely right.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Jessica Jeong is missing. Jessica
- 37:49Speaker 1: Jeong is missing from this picture, and Jeannie was released
- 37:52Speaker 1: in 2009. Yeah, OK, Jessica Jeong left Girls' Generation. If
- 37:56Speaker 1: I'm not wrong, I think sometime around 2014, 2015. OK,
- 38:00Speaker 1: and she has publicly come out.
- 38:01Speaker 1: With her displeasure and she's given reasons on why she
- 38:05Speaker 1: left it in thorough interviews
- 38:06Speaker 2: and to be honest, ever since then she's been doing
- 38:09Speaker 2: her own solo stuff. Yeah she made quite a few
- 38:11Speaker 2: appearances here in Singapore
- 38:12Speaker 1: and also for the Jeannie music video and the Jeanie song,
- 38:16Speaker 1: Jessica's vocals
- 38:17Speaker 2: she's like one of the main vocals.
- 38:20Speaker 1: To leave her out of this picture and erase her completely.
- 38:25Speaker 1: How petty can you be? Just put her there.
- 38:28Speaker 2: You know, actually, the fact that they, what, what are
- 38:31Speaker 2: the comments like now? Obviously everyone's calling it out,
- 38:34Speaker 1: Jessica. Yeah,
- 38:34Speaker 2: so that's the thing, like the fact that you leave
- 38:37Speaker 2: her out is going to cause more unrest in the
- 38:40Speaker 2: comments than if you had just put her in. Exactly.
- 38:42Speaker 1: So it's not the Streisand effect where people are giving more.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Like to Jessica saying, hey, what's going on here? Unless
- 38:50Speaker 1: this was planned all along.
- 38:52Speaker 2: What to like drive up the interactions or clicks,
- 38:55Speaker 1: the rage
- 38:56Speaker 1: controversial or maybe on the flip side they suddenly announced, hey,
- 39:00Speaker 1: guess who's back for one time only. Jessica.
- 39:04Speaker 2: Yeah, but you know, the fact that they're getting so
- 39:06Speaker 2: much negative comments already, that alone is not good, not good,
- 39:11Speaker 2: but never forget some of their hits.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Do you have the
- 39:18Speaker 1: GG
- 39:19Speaker 1: GG baby
- 39:20Speaker 2: baby baby.
- 39:29Speaker 2: I never know what they're saying.
- 39:32Speaker 2: It's just noises to me. OK, now.
- 39:37Speaker 2: Again,
- 39:39Speaker 1: girls' generation paved the way so people like 21 and
- 39:43Speaker 1: Blackpink can run.
- 39:44Speaker 2: They were the
- 39:44Speaker 2: OGs. It's they are the OGs.
- 39:50Speaker 2: And when it comes down to restaurant reviews and food reviews, right,
- 39:54Speaker 2: it can be very tricky and it can cause a
- 39:56Speaker 2: lot of trust issues with us consumers when we read
- 39:59Speaker 2: these reviews.
- 40:01Speaker 1: And you
- 40:02Speaker 1: don't know who to truly now,
- 40:03Speaker 2: OK? So I'm gonna take you overseas. This did not happen.
- 40:07Speaker 2: Here in Singapore, but it could have, it could have.
- 40:09Speaker 2: And you know, when it comes to the art of complaining,
- 40:12Speaker 2: you know, plenty of humans do it, not just here
- 40:13Speaker 2: in Singapore. So this, um, this particular lady left a
- 40:18Speaker 2: one-star review on a restaurant, OK, on what I think
- 40:21Speaker 2: presumably is in the US looks like it.
- 40:24Speaker 2: She said, I showed up 10 minutes before closing and
- 40:27Speaker 2: the waitress looked angry with me. Honey, if you want
- 40:29Speaker 2: to close earlier, then change your hours. The menu had
- 40:32Speaker 2: too many options and it stressed me out. They served
- 40:35Speaker 2: chips and salsa before the meal. When my food came out,
- 40:37Speaker 2: I wasn't even hungry anymore. The waitress said things like
- 40:40Speaker 2: no problem instead of you're welcome, lacking basic manners. They
- 40:44Speaker 2: must have used warm glasses because the ice in my
- 40:47Speaker 2: drink melted so fast and watered down my drink. The
- 40:50Speaker 2: portions were too big, I had to get a go
- 40:52Speaker 2: to bag.
- 40:53Speaker 2: I put it in the back seat and it spilled.
- 40:56Speaker 2: My car now smells like food. Not gonna come back
- 40:59Speaker 2: unless they fix their attitude and their menu. Lady,
- 41:02Speaker 1: why are you
- 41:02Speaker 1: so angry?
- 41:04Speaker 2: What is going on with that?
- 41:05Speaker 1: What's happening here?
- 41:06Speaker 1: To which,
- 41:07Speaker 2: and I wonder whether this has happened here in Singapore
- 41:10Speaker 2: where restaurant owners have decided to clap back. Did
- 41:13Speaker 1: a
- 41:13Speaker 1: Singaporean leave that comment?
- 41:14Speaker 2: It sounds like it, right? That's why I said it
- 41:16Speaker 2: could have happened here.
- 41:17Speaker 2: So, the owner of the restaurant had the ultimate clap.
- 41:20Speaker 2: Are you ready for it? Here we go. Here we go.
- 41:22Speaker 2: So he, he leaves a comment saying, hold on, let
- 41:24Speaker 2: me get this straight. You're angry because #1, you showed
- 41:28Speaker 2: up right before closing and you were upset that our
- 41:31Speaker 2: staff looked like they were closing. Secondly, you ate so
- 41:34Speaker 2: much free appetizers that you weren't hungry anymore. Number 3,
- 41:38Speaker 2: ice melts. Number 4, we gave you too much food.
- 41:41Speaker 2: Number 5,
- 41:42Speaker 2: We didn't personally escort the two gold box out of
- 41:44Speaker 2: your back seat. We're sorry that the loss of time, temperature,
- 41:47Speaker 2: and personal responsibility did not work in your favor. Our hours, eyes, manners,
- 41:52Speaker 2: and menu will remain unchanged.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Beautiful clapback. I love
- 41:57Speaker 1: it.
- 41:57Speaker 2: When I saw it, I burst out laughing and it
- 41:59Speaker 2: has since popped off and gone absolutely viral on TikTok
- 42:02Speaker 2: and Instagram, and people are just laughing at this woman
- 42:05Speaker 2: right now.
- 42:06Speaker 1: of manager and boss I want to work for, but
- 42:08Speaker 1: I'm not somebody who will cave in to a simple
- 42:10Speaker 1: customer complaint.
- 42:11Speaker 2: I wonder
- 42:12Speaker 2: if this has happened in Singapore where people dare to
- 42:14Speaker 2: actually speak up because I know that especially here in Asia,
- 42:17Speaker 2: we always go by the customer is always right mentality,
- 42:20Speaker 2: but
- 42:20Speaker 1: it's, it's archaic thinking already. Organizations, whether you are a
- 42:26Speaker 1: yoga studio or even a restaurant or whatsoever, right.
- 42:30Speaker 1: If there's always that one anomaly of a customer or
- 42:33Speaker 1: a client that complains, right, you know that he or
- 42:36Speaker 1: she is the problem. Stand up
- 42:38Speaker 2: for yourself.
- 42:39Speaker 1: Don't cave in comments like that. Yeah,
- 42:41Speaker 2: and you don't want to absorb all this negative energy.
- 42:44Speaker 1: OK, on that topic of Google reviews and all this, right,
- 42:48Speaker 1: some restaurants here in Singapore, and I was at one recently,
- 42:51Speaker 1: I won't say that, but the food is very good,
- 42:52Speaker 1: so I didn't mind doing it, OK.
- 42:54Speaker 1: They have this sign that says, leave a Google review,
- 42:57Speaker 1: you get a free drink or a free dish that
- 42:59Speaker 1: I've seen that before.
- 43:01Speaker 2: Yeah,
- 43:01Speaker 1: but would you do it?
- 43:03Speaker 2: I would do it if I've, you know, eaten the
- 43:06Speaker 2: food and I actually think that it's nice and I
- 43:08Speaker 2: actually like it because to me, as you know me,
- 43:11Speaker 2: I am quite a foodie and uh a meal that
- 43:14Speaker 2: isn't nice to me or that is not satisfying can
- 43:17Speaker 2: put me in a bad mood. So I am very
- 43:19Speaker 2: serious about the food.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Yeah, but I feel like some people truly sharing how
- 43:27Speaker 1: they feel about the food because you can't leave a one.
- 43:30Speaker 1: and say, hey, I want my Coke Zero, please. Yeah,
- 43:32Speaker 2: no, no, you can't do that. Yeah, exactly. They want
- 43:34Speaker 2: you to leave a good review.
- 43:35Speaker 1: So that's why now even for the reviews, right, I
- 43:37Speaker 1: take it with a pinch of salt.
- 43:38Speaker 2: But then it's up to the restaurant to make sure
- 43:40Speaker 2: they have a certain standard of food and service as well, to,
- 43:43Speaker 2: to dare to like say that, right? Fair enough. Yeah,
- 43:46Speaker 2: so it works both ways I feel. Anyway, here's hoping
- 43:49Speaker 2: you have a satisfying meal later
- 43:51Speaker 2: today.
- 43:51Speaker 1: OK, tomorrow I'll be missing from the show. OK, don't
- 43:54Speaker 1: miss me too much.
- 43:57Speaker 1: No, but, uh, in the morning, I'll actually be at the,
- 44:02Speaker 1: our Tampines hub celebrating 10 years of the SG Secure movement. Oh,
- 44:07Speaker 2: you're coming to the east side.
- 44:09Speaker 1: Yes, I will be, and I think our Prime Minister
- 44:12Speaker 1: will be there as well, giving a small speech about
- 44:14Speaker 1: SG Secure, and he'll walk through all the booths. So yeah,
- 44:17Speaker 1: it's open to the public if I'm not wrong, at
- 44:20Speaker 1: least after the whole.
- 44:21Speaker 1: Official opening ceremony from now till 27th of September, our
- 44:26Speaker 1: Tampines hub to celebrate 10 years of SG Secure.
- 44:30Speaker 2: Wow, I mean, you know, speaking of Tampines, which was
- 44:33Speaker 2: an area that I spent a lot of time at
- 44:35Speaker 2: when I was a kid growing up, it's a very
- 44:38Speaker 2: densely populated place. Like it's huge and there are so
- 44:41Speaker 2: many amenities around. Like I think there are new BTOs
- 44:44Speaker 2: popping up around.
- 44:45Speaker 2: That area as well.
- 44:46Speaker 1: I mean, Tampines is very big,
- 44:48Speaker 2: very big, yeah.
- 44:49Speaker 1: Like I realized that Tampines Safra and Tampines hub were
- 44:52Speaker 1: actually not too near each other.
- 44:54Speaker 2: It's a bit of a walk, yeah.
- 44:56Speaker 2: I wouldn't, I wouldn't say, I almost said that Tampines
- 44:59Speaker 2: is like the Jurong of the East in a way because,
- 45:03Speaker 2: but Jurong is even bigger, I think. It's even bigger.
- 45:06Speaker 2: It's just that Tampines is the most densely populated area
- 45:09Speaker 2: of the East. I feel personally, yeah.
- 45:11Speaker 1: So yeah, if you're coming down, we'll see you there.
- 45:13Speaker 1: If not, I'll be back to the show on Thursday.
- 45:15Speaker 2: Yeah, and I'll still be yours solo tomorrow morning.
