- 0:00Jonathan: Hello, Dork Squad.
- 0:02Jonathan: I'm Jonathan Cormur, and you're listening to Dork Tales Storytime, the podcast for kids and their pop culture-loving grown-ups.
- 0:09Jonathan: And this is one of our anything is possible lore stories.
- 0:14Theme Song: It's a beautiful day for a story, adventure, and glory, new friends and old ones too.
- 0:21Theme Song: It's an excellent day to get swept away in a tale, so let us regale you.
- 0:34Kit: Alright, boys, I've done my final tests on Dramatis.
- 0:38Kit: Ah, such a beautiful ship.
- 0:41Kit: Some of my finest work.
- 0:45Jack A. Lope: Are we ready to go, Kit?
- 0:47Kit: Oh yeah.
- 0:48Kit: Well, no.
- 0:49Kit: It's time to do our pre-flight checks.
- 0:51Redge: Ooh, exciting!
- 0:53Jack A. Lope: Indeed.
- 0:54Kit: Launch codes?
- 0:55Redge: Double O quills here.
- 0:57Redge: Relaying launch code Alpha Beta Z double O Gamma Gamma Blue Balloon Green Kazoo Ice Cream Cone Cotton Balls.
- 1:07Kit: Affirmative Quills.
- 1:08Jack A. Lope: This is Jack A.
- 1:09Jack A. Lope: Lope.
- 1:10Jack A. Lope: I've pulled up the WV.
- 1:12Redge: Ah yes, the Weather Vane.
- 1:14Redge: Storm Predictor Technology.
- 1:17Kit: Crafted by the one and only Kit.
- 1:20Kit: That's me.
- 1:21Jack A. Lope: That's right, Kit.
- 1:22Jack A. Lope: I'm looking at the readouts, and it appears as though it's going to be all sunshine, no rain during our launch window.
- 1:29Redge: Oh, how can you tell?
- 1:31Redge: I've never seen the WV in action.
- 1:34Jack A. Lope: Uh there's a little sun with a smiley face right there in the center.
- 1:38Redge: Aw, how cute!
- 1:40Jack A. Lope: What's next?
- 1:41Redge: Airlock.
- 1:42Redge: Secured.
- 1:44Redge: Navigational systems.
- 1:46Redge: Online.
- 1:49Redge: And seat belts buckled.
- 1:54Redge: Safety first.
- 1:56Kit: That's excellent news.
- 1:57Kit: That means you're clear to initiate thrusters.
- 2:00Jack A. Lope: Initiating thrusters?
- 2:02Jack A. Lope: Thrusters initiated.
- 2:04Kit: Remember, your spacesuits have heat resistant technology, personal air conditioners, built-in screens in the helmet with access to 100 original movies.
- 2:14Redge: Ooh.
- 2:15Kit: And important maps and stuff.
- 2:17Kit: Also, there are walkie-talkie capabilities, utility belts with all of your practical breaking into an enemy spaceship needs, bubble machines, and cup holders.
- 2:27Jack A. Lope: Cup holders?
- 2:30Redge: You always remember to add cupholders to our gear kit.
- 2:34Kit: Gotta stay hydrated! All right, we've reached the launch window.
- 2:37Kit: Time for my favorite part.
- 2:39Kit: Ten, nine, eight.
- 2:43Redge: Are you ready, Jack?
- 2:45Kit: Seven, six.
- 2:47Jack A. Lope: Ready as I'll ever be, Quills.
- 2:49Kit: Five, four.
- 2:51Redge: Let our next mission commence.
- 2:54Kit: Three, two, one.
- 2:57All: Lift off.
- 3:03Kit: How's it looking out there in space, fellas?
- 3:06Redge: Wow! So many stars and all the land of Once Upon A Time beneath us.
- 3:12Jack A. Lope: It is beautiful.
- 3:14Jack A. Lope: But no time to enjoy it now.
- 3:16Redge: You're right.
- 3:17Redge: Focus on the mission.
- 3:19Jack A. Lope: Kit, will you run down our objectives one more time?
- 3:23Kit: You got it, Jack.
- 3:24Kit: Approximately twelve hours ago, the Biblio 5 spacecraft disappeared from orbit.
- 3:30Jonathan: But the crew on that ship is studying important scientific and magically terrific things, like how to grow plants in outer space, and the weather patterns of Once Upon a Time, and the mystical interaction between stars and wishes and Pixie Dust.
- 3:46Kit: That's right, Quills.
- 3:48Kit: Very important work for magic users and science doers.
- 3:52Redge: We have to find them.
- 3:53Redge: Do we have any leads or clues?
- 3:56Redge: Did Biblio 5 leave anything behind?
- 3:59Jack A. Lope: Nothing at all.
- 4:00Redge: Oh no!
- 4:02Jack A. Lope: Except for one thing.
- 4:04Redge: Oh yay!
- 4:05Jack A. Lope: Kit caught a strange frequency on her patented listen-in radio.
- 4:09Kit: I did.
- 4:10Kit: We received satellite images of empty space where the ship was last seen orbiting our planet.
- 4:15Kit: So I decided to connect my radio to the nearest satellite, and I built two really big antennas.
- 4:21Kit: It was really interesting, actually.
- 4:23Kit: I
- 4:24Redge: um the the the frequency?
- 4:26Kit: Oh right.
- 4:26Kit: Uh well, it was a strange one, just like Jack said.
- 4:30Jack A. Lope: Can you patch it through so quills can take a listen?
- 4:33Kit: Sure thing.
- 4:34Redge: Thank you, kit.
- 4:35Redge: Well, that's odd.
- 4:43Redge: It sounds just like a p cat.
- 4:46Redge: But that couldn't be, right?
- 4:50Kit: Well, it definitely doesn't sound like a duck.
- 4:52Kit: Or a cow.
- 4:53Kit: Or a dog, or a pig.
- 4:56Jack A. Lope: Looks like we're nearing the start of our trail.
- 4:59Redge: Trail?
- 5:00Kit: I studied the waveforms made by the radio frequency and determined which direction they were traveling.
- 5:05Kit: From there it was a simple hack of your ship's entire complex navigational system to chart a course.
- 5:11Kit: No biggie!
- 5:13Jonathan: Kit, you never cease to amaze me.
- 5:16Kit: Hey, thanks.
- 5:21Jack A. Lope: Huh?
- 5:22Jack A. Lope: That's odd.
- 5:23Redge: What is it?
- 5:25Dramatis: Unidentified objects ahead.
- 5:26Dramatis: Please initiate course correction procedures.
- 5:30Jack A. Lope: But what is it?
- 5:31Jack A. Lope: Meteors?
- 5:32Redge: Hmm, no, not quite.
- 5:35Redge: That over there looks like a giant hamburger bun?
- 5:41Jack A. Lope: And hot dog buns?
- 5:43Redge: Big crumpled up pieces of paper.
- 5:46Redge: Oh, and there are some massive cosmic banana peels.
- 5:52Jack A. Lope: Dramatis.
- 5:53Jack A. Lope: Identify the object just off the port bow.
- 5:57Dramatis: Scanning.
- 5:57Dramatis: Object identified.
- 6:00Dramatis: Floating space debris.
- 6:02Dramatis: Classification D.
- 6:04Dramatis: Cosminicus Maniculus Articulatus.
- 6:08Dramatis: Or more commonly known as cosmic dust bunnies.
- 6:11Dramatis: Patching through a message from Bunniculus Particulatus now.
- 6:17Dust Bunny: Hehe look out! We might make you sneeze!
- 6:21Redge: The dust bunnies speak?
- 6:23Jack A. Lope: My nose suddenly tickles.
- 6:27Kit: Uh guys, alert.
- 6:29Kit: I'm picking up on a rare phenomenon obstructing your path.
- 6:32Kit: It's space dumpster debris.
- 6:35Jack A. Lope: We uh we uh we uh noticed.
- 6:41Kit: Quick, initiate cool tricks.
- 6:44Jack A. Lope: Oh right.
- 6:45Jack A. Lope: We should be able to set in the last of these coordinates and turn on the autopilot function to fly through this uh debris.
- 6:54Redge: Ah yes, cool tricks protocol! Now Dramatis will start bobbing and weaving in a spectacular fashion.
- 7:02Jack A. Lope: All set.
- 7:03Jack A. Lope: Initiating sequence now.
- 7:06Dramatis: Autopilot offline.
- 7:08Jack A. Lope: Oh no.
- 7:09Redge: What?
- 7:10Redge: Why didn't it work?
- 7:12Jack A. Lope: Because I sneezed on the console.
- 7:14Jack A. Lope: It fried the screen.
- 7:17Redge: It what?
- 7:18Jack A. Lope: We'll have to fly Dramatis ourselves.
- 7:20Redge: Ourselves?
- 7:22Jack A. Lope: I'll program the Cool Tricks maneuver into your helmet.
- 7:25Jack A. Lope: You should see paths light up on a digital map that plays on the built-in screen.
- 7:30Jack A. Lope: Just follow them as you fly.
- 7:33Redge: Fly?
- 7:34Redge: Me?
- 7:35Jack A. Lope: You have to fly so I can enter the cool tricks manually.
- 7:38Redge: Listen, Lope, I'm a hedgehog, not a pilot.
- 7:41Jack A. Lope: Quills, you are a top secret agent and spy master.
- 7:44Jack A. Lope: You can do it.
- 7:46Jack A. Lope: Or my name isn't Lope.
- 7:48Jack A. Lope: Jack A.
- 7:49Jack A. Lope: Lope.
- 7:51Redge: You're right.
- 7:52Redge: I believe!
- 7:55Dramatis: Cool Trick Sequence, the butterfly.
- 8:02Redge: Think like a butterfly and gracefully fly past this enormous boot.
- 8:06Redge: I can do it.
- 8:07Redge: It couldn't be easier.
- 8:08Jack A. Lope: Watch out for the shoelaces!
- 8:11Dramatis: Cool trick sequence, kangaroo bounce.
- 8:15Jack A. Lope: And we're just going to hop right across these old tin cans.
- 8:19Redge: Boing, boing, boing, and bingo! We've cleared the cans!
- 8:25Dramatis: Cool trick sequence.
- 8:26Dramatis: Fly super fast to avoid object collision.
- 8:29Redge: Oh, doesn't it have a cooler name?
- 8:31Dramatis: Um, right.
- 8:32Dramatis: Cool trick sequence.
- 8:34Dramatis: Zoom now.
- 8:35Jack A. Lope: Hit the gas, Quills.
- 8:36Jack A. Lope: The dust bunnies are the charg Charging.
- 8:44Jack A. Lope: They're charging the ship.
- 8:46Redge: Pedal to the metal!
- 8:54Jack A. Lope: Excellent work, Quills.
- 8:56Redge: Oh, thank you.
- 8:57Redge: I uh I knew I could do it the whole time.
- 9:01Redge: Of course.
- 9:02Redge: Look, Jack! There's a ship just ahead.
- 9:06Redge: But it doesn't look like the missing Biblio 5.
- 9:10Jack A. Lope: It appears to be the Star Scratcher.
- 9:15Redge: Fascinating.
- 9:17Jack A. Lope: And this field of space dumpster debris was purposefully scattered on our path to knock us off course.
- 9:24Jack A. Lope: But we've discovered the Star Scratcher anyways.
- 9:28Redge: I think it's about time we sneakily get on board and find out what's going on.
- 9:33Jack A. Lope: I couldn't agree more.
- 9:35Jack A. Lope: Who goes there?
- 9:41Redge: Look on the screen!
- 9:43Jack A. Lope: Cat eyes.
- 9:45Ernst: Very wise you two very wise indeed.
- 9:50Ernst: I say you made it past my debris.
- 9:55Redge: How did you scatter the contents of a dumpster in space?
- 9:58Redge: Oh, and uh who are you?
- 10:01Ernst: The scientists on Biblio five were studying the usefulness of repurposing trash for fuel.
- 10:09Ernst: I just made a few modifications to the experiment.
- 10:14Redge: Well, we're going to clean up after you whoever you are.
- 10:19Ernst: Sure, go ahead.
- 10:20Ernst: I'm not worried about that.
- 10:22Jack A. Lope: Where is Biblio five?
- 10:25Ernst: I could tell you.
- 10:27Ernst: Or you could have a little chat with my laser pointer!
- 10:36Redge: Dramatis, cut the feed and initiate stealth mode.
- 10:40Dramatis: Initiating stealth mode.
- 10:42Jack A. Lope: Excellent quick thinking, Quills.
- 10:44Jack A. Lope: Now they won't be able to target Dramatis.
- 10:47Jack A. Lope: But we have to get to the Star Scratcher, and these lasers are making it impossible to move closer.
- 10:53Redge: We'll just have to use the suits.
- 10:55Jack A. Lope: Go out into space?
- 10:58Redge: Jack, you're a top secret agent and super spy master.
- 11:03Redge: You can do it, or my name is in double O Quills.
- 11:06Jack A. Lope: I see what you did there.
- 11:09Redge: Kit, we need a boost to get to the enemy ship.
- 11:12Kit: Oh! Did I forget to mention that you have rocket boots on?
- 11:15Redge: How convenient!
- 11:17Jack A. Lope: Step inside the airlock, Quills.
- 11:22Kit: The rocket boots are ready to rumble.
- 11:24Kit: Dramatis, open hatch.
- 11:27Dramatis: Hatch opening.
- 11:28Redge: Whee! Exhilarating! Rocket boots rocketing us through space! Jack, I can't believe the last laser almost singed the side of your suit! But you expertly zoomed out of the way!
- 11:48Jack A. Lope: Yeah, it was uh not a close call at all.
- 11:53Jack A. Lope: Completely normal and fine.
- 11:57Ernst: How did you get in here?
- 12:00Redge: Hey, how can you see us?
- 12:03Ernst: My cat eyes never miss a thing.
- 12:07Jack A. Lope: As for the how, we would never reveal our tricks.
- 12:11Redge: Now show yourself.
- 12:14Ernst: Oh poo! You absolutely know.
- 12:16Ernst: Well, I do wish we could chit-chat in person, but I'm a busy cat.
- 12:22Ernst: Do say hello to my friends for me before you get off, will you?
- 12:30Gerbil 1: Yo!
- 12:31Gerbil 2: Up here,
- 12:33Gerbil 3: and over here!
- 12:34All: Sneak Attack!
- 12:37Jack A. Lope: The Triple Threats! I thought that was just a legend.
- 12:40Jack A. Lope: Double O quills, run!
- 12:42Gerbil 1: Backflip! Backflip!
- 12:44Gerbil 2: Somersault!
- 12:45Gerbil 3: Leap!
- 12:46Redge: You know who they are?
- 12:48Jack A. Lope: They're gerbil triplets with talent that they're not afraid to use.
- 12:52Jack A. Lope: They will hypnotize you with their skills, perform a monologue you want to hear over and over again.
- 12:58Jack A. Lope: Spin until you're dizzy, slow you down with their incredible tumbling passes.
- 13:04Gerbil 1: Flying splits!
- 13:06Jack A. Lope: Duck!
- 13:07Redge: Ah!
- 13:08Jack A. Lope: You see?
- 13:09Redge: It is rather impressive.
- 13:11Gerbil 1: Yeah, Quills.
- 13:12Gerbil 1: Check out these
- 13:14All: jazz hands!
- 13:17Redge: Jack?
- 13:17Redge: I feel compelled to stop! And also do jazz hands!
- 13:27Jack A. Lope: No quills! Wait, what do we have on these belts of ours?
- 13:31Jack A. Lope: Uh lockpick, multi-tool, codebreaker, yo-yo, wait, yo-yo!
- 13:37Redge: Jack! I must jazz hands!
- 13:42Jack A. Lope: A flashlight.
- 13:43Jack A. Lope: Use your flashlight, Quills.
- 13:45Jack A. Lope: Shine it on them like a spotlight.
- 13:47Jack A. Lope: The Triple Threats cannot resist the spotlight.
- 13:50Redge: Just have to resist to grab the flashlight and let it shine.
- 14:00Jonathan: Look, Quills, it's working.
- 14:02Jonathan: They've begun a production of Quilliam Shakespeare's play about the pig.
- 14:06Redge: Hamley!
- 14:09Gerbil 1: To Oink
- 14:11Gerbil 2: Or not to Oink.
- 14:13Gerbil 3: That is the question.
- 14:15Jack A. Lope: Leave the flashlight on the ground shining at them.
- 14:18Jack A. Lope: They'll be distracted for a while.
- 14:20Jack A. Lope: They started at the beginning of Act Two.
- 14:23Redge: Aww, do we have to go?
- 14:25Redge: They're really good.
- 14:27Jack A. Lope: Quills, the cat.
- 14:29Redge: Oh right, running.
- 14:36Ernst: Soon my plans will all manifest.
- 14:39Ernst: Nothing can stop me now.
- 14:42Ernst: I have all the best scientists in a land of once upon a time here in my claws.
- 14:49Ernst: According to my meowculations, there is only one final equation to complete before the scientists confirm the lost coordinate.
- 15:07Ernst: Then all we have to do is take the Star Scratcher there to scratch open space-time, engage thrusters at Zoomies speed, and fly through the portal to the Yarn Dimension.
- 15:24Redge: Not so fast.
- 15:26Ernst: What?
- 15:26Ernst: No! How did you resist the jazz hand attack?
- 15:31Redge: Using our top-of-the-line spy gadgets from the brilliant agent kit.
- 15:36Kit: Oh hey, thanks.
- 15:37Kit: Oh, by the way, Lope and Quills, I've been doing a little digging on the Star Scratcher.
- 15:42Kit: Patching my findings through the data pads I sewed into your suit sleeves.
- 15:46Redge: You really think of everything.
- 15:52Jack A. Lope: Ah
- 15:53Redge: I see.
- 15:55Ernst: What?
- 15:56Ernst: What do you see?
- 15:57Ernst: Two eyes on this massive screen?
- 15:59Ernst: The eyes of a fearsome foe who was trying to finish his evil monologue about his brilliant plan to take over Once Upon A Time and cover it in delightful yarn?
- 16:11Redge: So the name's Ernst, is it?
- 16:14Ernst: Er no?
- 16:17Redge: Kit is never wrong.
- 16:19Jack A. Lope: You cannot open the Yarn Dimension, Ernst.
- 16:22Redge: According to Kit's research, you will unleash yarn balls of epic proportions across our land.
- 16:29Jack A. Lope: Once Upon A Time we'll become so crisscrossed that not even our best scientists will be able to untangle the threads.
- 16:36Ernst: I don't care.
- 16:37Ernst: Star Scratcher, set speed to Zoomies.
- 16:40Ernst: Engage.
- 16:43Jack A. Lope: Whoa!
- 16:44Redge: Yeah
- 16:45Jack A. Lope: We're going at super speed.
- 16:47Jack A. Lope: Ernst is going to get to the portal of the Yarn Dimension in mere moments.
- 16:52Redge: But he still doesn't have the lost coordinate.
- 16:55Redge: There's time to draw him out.
- 16:59Ernst: Soon all the world will be covered in yarn to bat around with our paws.
- 17:06Redge: Jack, how will we get Ernst to reveal himself?
- 17:09Redge: There must be a way.
- 17:12Jack A. Lope: Wait a second.
- 17:12Jack A. Lope: Quills, look at your utility belt.
- 17:15Jack A. Lope: See anything that might be appealing?
- 17:19Redge: Brilliant, Jack!
- 17:21Kit: Ah, I'm picking up what you're putting down, boys, and giving them a little boost so they emit an extra dazzling light.
- 17:29Redge: We can always count on you, Kit.
- 17:32Jack A. Lope: On the count of three.
- 17:34Redge: One,
- 17:35Jack A. Lope: two
- 17:36Kit: Oh, I love countdowns.
- 17:38Redge: Uh Kit?
- 17:40Kit: Oh right.
- 17:41Kit: Three.
- 17:42All: Yo yo yo's engage!
- 17:48Ernst: What?
- 17:48Ernst: No, no, you can't do this
- 17:51Jack A. Lope: But look at these beautiful lights.
- 17:54Ernst: I won't.
- 17:55Ernst: Eyes on the prize, Ernst.
- 17:57Ernst: Just think of the Yarn Dimension.
- 18:00Redge: Look at this most delightful string.
- 18:04Ernst: Must resist the urge to bat at the string
- 18:09Jack A. Lope: Watch these nifty yo yo tricks, Ernst.
- 18:12Jack A. Lope: The sleeper.
- 18:13Redge: The gravity pull.
- 18:14Jack A. Lope: Cold fusion.
- 18:16Redge: Walking the dog.
- 18:18Ernst: No not the dog I must defeat the yo yo
- 18:27Jack A. Lope: The screen went black.
- 18:28Redge: The ship is slowing down.
- 18:30Ernst: Meow
- 18:32Redge: Look, Jack, Ernst.
- 18:34Jack A. Lope: He's coming out from hiding and is batting the string.
- 18:39Ernst: String
- 18:41Jack A. Lope: It looks like we've unraveled your plans, Ernst.
- 18:46Ernst: Wait, what?
- 18:47Ernst: No, no! You tricked me!
- 18:50Redge: When Double 0 Quills
- 18:52Jack A. Lope: and Lope, Jack A Lope
- 18:55Redge: are on the case, you can count on mission success.
- 18:59Ernst: I will reach the Yarn Dimension someday, Lope and Quills.
- 19:03Ernst: You can't stop me for long.
- 19:05Jack A. Lope: Let me just do a little rabbit on the trapeze trick, Will Quick.
- 19:10Ernst: Oh, string.
- 19:13Redge: That should keep him busy.
- 19:15Kit: Great work, guys! I've been able to hack into the Star Scratcher computer.
- 19:19Kit: Looks like Ernst was cloaking the Biblio 5 using space dumpster debris not far from your current location.
- 19:25Redge: Ah, I see.
- 19:27Redge: So he captured the ship in what looks like a yawn net.
- 19:31Kit: Excellent gadget construction, I have to say.
- 19:33Ernst: Huh, thank you.
- 19:35Ernst: Wow.
- 19:36Ernst: String!
- 19:38Redge: And he was using the expertise and resources of the Biblio 5 to open the Yarn Dimension Portal.
- 19:45Kit: And you two arrived just in time, because they were one digit away.
- 19:49Kit: You've been cleared to return to Dramatis and tow the Biblio 5 back into orbit around Once Upon A Time.
- 19:55Kit: I juiced up the ships to help you make the trip home.
- 19:58Jack A. Lope: But before we head home, maybe
- 20:02Redge: we can give the rocket boots another spin?
- 20:06Jack A. Lope: You read my mind, Agent Quills.
- 20:09Kit: Alright.
- 20:09Kit: Sounds like the perfect opportunity for another countdown.
- 20:12Redge: Prepare for rocket boot launch.
- 20:15Jack A. Lope: See you in the stars, Quills.
