1:14
SPEAKER_02: I am very thankful to be here this evening.
1:17
SPEAKER_02: Thankful for this opportunity to uh come to a new place and feel just right at home.
1:24
SPEAKER_02: Um you know, you really can't find that every place, but amongst the Lord's people, it just it it's it's natural.
1:32
SPEAKER_02: Um never been here before.
1:34
SPEAKER_02: I think at one point in time I knew there was a church in Houston, but I wasn't even sure.
1:38
SPEAKER_02: Uh but I'm glad you guys are here, and I'm glad I'm able to be here with you guys this evening.
1:45
SPEAKER_02: Brother Mike, I don't think I would have forgiven you.
1:48
SPEAKER_02: It I might would have forgiven you, but it would take a long time if you would have if you would have called me by my dad's name.
1:56
SPEAKER_02: You know, it's just we're a lot and we're alike in a lot of ways, but then we're just so vastly different.
2:08
SPEAKER_02: Just for a little while this morning, or this evening, rather, I would like to uh look at a particular phrase.
2:18
SPEAKER_02: It's just just a very simple particular phrase that the apostle Paul uh uses when he's giving a uh personal testimony to uh the young minister Timothy.
2:30
SPEAKER_02: Uh in 1 Timothy chapter 1, in verse 12, the apostle Paul uh starts and says, And I thank Christ Jesus, our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry, who was before a blasphemer and a persecutor and injurious, but I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
2:59
SPEAKER_02: And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
3:06
SPEAKER_02: This is the faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.
3:16
SPEAKER_02: How be it for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show forth all long suffering for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.
3:32
SPEAKER_02: Paul, in this personal testimony to the young minister Timothy, if you allow me to put it in my own words, Paul is saying, Timothy, before got a hold before God got a hold of me, I was the worst of worst of people that you could imagine.
3:50
SPEAKER_02: There was no redeeming quality that I could offer at all to anyone in any situation.
3:57
SPEAKER_02: I was a blasphemer, a persecutor, and injurious.
4:02
SPEAKER_02: Now I'm not as smart as as Brother Mike over here, so I have to look up words.
4:08
SPEAKER_02: I had to look up what the word injurious meant, and it means it means overbearing an extremely violent person.
4:21
SPEAKER_02: Paul is very plainly saying, I was no good at all.
4:29
SPEAKER_02: But in verse 16, however, there is something very unique to me and very profound that Paul calls himself, that I really want to look at, and it really ought to open all of our eyes to a very, very important truth.
4:46
SPEAKER_02: Paul says in verse 16, howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy that in me first Jesus Christ might show forth all long suffering for a what?
5:00
SPEAKER_02: For a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.
5:07
SPEAKER_02: Paul calls himself a pattern.
5:11
SPEAKER_02: That's not a pretty pattern to follow.
5:13
SPEAKER_02: If Paul says I was the worst person imaginable, that's you and I.
5:23
SPEAKER_02: But I want us to, if Paul is calling himself a pattern, I really want to dive a little deeper into how we fit this particular pattern that Paul says we fit, that we follow, that we are a part of.
5:38
SPEAKER_02: First time we read about the Apostle Paul is in Acts chapter 7.
5:49
SPEAKER_02: In Acts chapter 7, uh Stephen preaches just a beautiful sermon on Jesus Christ and the beauties of Jesus Christ and making sure the people there are aware that it was by their hands, by their deeds, that did all these terrible things to Jesus, and uh they didn't like that one bit.
6:08
SPEAKER_02: In verse 54 of Acts chapter 7, this is after Stephen has gone through and ended his sermon.
6:20
SPEAKER_02: He's it says uh in verse 54, when they heard these things, and they were cut to the heart.
6:28
SPEAKER_02: Now, I don't I don't think I have that much time to go into the difference between being cut to the heart and being pricked in the heart.
6:35
SPEAKER_02: Uh you can cut a stone, you can't really prick a stone.
6:38
SPEAKER_02: Uh that's uh and they gnashed on him with their teeth.
6:44
SPEAKER_02: They hated what he said so much.
6:47
SPEAKER_02: They were so offended by what they heard that they were literally gnawing on him with their teeth.
6:58
SPEAKER_02: But he, being Stephen, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up steadfastly into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, and said, Behold, I see I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing on the right hand of God.
7:14
SPEAKER_02: Then they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears and ran upon him with one accord, and cast him out of the city and stoned him, and the witness, and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul.
7:40
SPEAKER_02: This is the same apostle Paul.
7:45
SPEAKER_02: This is him, and they stoned Stephen, calling upon God and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.
7:56
SPEAKER_02: The very first time that we read this man Saul in the whole entire Bible, it's an awful, terrible scene.
8:07
SPEAKER_02: It's one that breaks my heart.
8:12
SPEAKER_02: The older I get, the more I cry, and it's just I read something like this, and I just can't help but just tear up and get super emotional.
8:21
SPEAKER_02: Just knowing what just knowing what they did to Stephen.
8:26
SPEAKER_02: But here's Saul standing there holding their coats.
8:33
SPEAKER_02: You may not have persecuted the church.
8:37
SPEAKER_02: I don't know, you some of you may have exactly I I don't I don't know your stories.
8:42
SPEAKER_02: Regardless of whether you did or not, if you think that you weren't that bad, that you didn't do, you weren't that bad.
8:53
SPEAKER_02: You you never held the coats of someone as as you were watching them being stoned.
8:58
SPEAKER_02: Sure, you weren't like that, but I I I just need to tell you that this same nature that is in Saul is in you and I.
9:11
SPEAKER_02: That's who we are by nature, without God in our lives.
9:16
SPEAKER_02: This same Saul, after God got a hold of him, writes in Romans chapter 3, uh the Holy Spirit, of course, inspired these words, and it's a very, very accurate depiction of what you and I are without God, by ourselves.
9:43
SPEAKER_02: I'm just gonna jump right in the middle in Romans chapter 3 and verse 10.
9:50
SPEAKER_02: As I go through and read these, read out all of these items that characterize what you and I are by nature.
10:01
SPEAKER_02: This is also Saul, and we're following after his pattern, mind you.
10:06
SPEAKER_02: As it is written, there is none righteous, no not one.
10:10
SPEAKER_02: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
10:14
SPEAKER_02: They are all gone out of the way, they are altogether become unprofitable.
10:19
SPEAKER_02: There is none that doeth good, no not one.
10:23
SPEAKER_02: Their throat is an open sepulchre, with with their tongues they have used deceit, the poison of asps is under their lips, whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness, their feet are swift to shed blood, destruction and misery are in their ways, and the way of peace they have not known.
10:45
SPEAKER_02: There is no fear of God before their eyes.
10:49
SPEAKER_02: You can go through that that little section right there, and thinking about thinking about Saul of Tarsus, and he just checks off every single one of those.
11:03
SPEAKER_02: But you and I do too.
11:06
SPEAKER_02: You and I do too.
11:14
SPEAKER_02: This same Paul, Saul, also writes in Ephesians chapter 1, or Ephesians chapter 2 rather, he says, and you hath he quickened who were dead in trespasses and in sins.
11:32
SPEAKER_02: Being a father has taught me an awful lot about what it what it what the relationship between God and his children are.
11:41
SPEAKER_02: It is the most beautiful blessing I can live out.
11:47
SPEAKER_02: Being a husband does that same thing.
11:50
SPEAKER_02: Working at a funeral home does an awful lot.
11:54
SPEAKER_02: It teaches me so many things.
11:58
SPEAKER_02: Brother Mike, did you know?
12:02
SPEAKER_02: When they're on my table, I can do whatever I want to them, and they can't do a single thing.
12:09
SPEAKER_02: Nothing.
12:10
SPEAKER_02: They just lay there.
12:14
SPEAKER_02: Sometimes, sometimes when I'm upstairs and I'm trying to dress them to make them look presentable, I'm trying to get the shirt over their head.
12:25
SPEAKER_02: All I want, all I need them to do is lift their head up just so I can get it over their head.
12:34
SPEAKER_02: I will ask, I will plead, it will make my life so much easier.
12:41
SPEAKER_02: But I don't have that kind of power.
12:46
SPEAKER_02: I speak and they just lay there.
12:50
SPEAKER_02: Can't do anything about it.
12:51
SPEAKER_02: Wish I could.
12:58
SPEAKER_02: It really would.
13:09
SPEAKER_02: In Acts chapter 8.
13:12
SPEAKER_02: Acts chapter 8.
13:15
SPEAKER_02: And Saul, this same Saul, was consenting unto his death.
13:24
SPEAKER_02: This isn't this scene right here in Acts 7 and Acts 8, this isn't just this isn't just Saul being a bystander and just happened to just walk by and see it happening and stand and just be curious.
13:46
SPEAKER_02: This word consenting, it literally gives the word picture of standing there and applauding.
13:53
SPEAKER_02: He was happy that this was going on.
13:56
SPEAKER_02: He was excited and joyful that this was happening.
14:03
SPEAKER_02: This is our nature.
14:05
SPEAKER_02: This is our nature being dead in trespasses and in sins.
14:10
SPEAKER_02: Acts chapter 9 starts, and Saul, this very same Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest and desired of him letters to Damascus, to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.
14:37
SPEAKER_02: This same Saul who we found holding the coats of the men who stoned Stephen, the same Saul that was standing there literally applauding the stoning of Stephen, is still going around, wreaking havoc, breathing out threatenings and slaughters.
15:00
SPEAKER_02: I'm so thankful I don't have to think about breathing.
15:03
SPEAKER_02: I would have been dead a long time ago, okay?
15:08
SPEAKER_02: I would not have made it very long.
15:11
SPEAKER_02: This idea right here in verse 1 is that this particular thing that is going on that Paul, that Saul is threatening, is breathing out, threatenings and slaughters, that's just second nature to him.
15:28
SPEAKER_02: It is as natural as breathing.
15:33
SPEAKER_02: He doesn't have to think about it.
15:35
SPEAKER_02: It's just what he does.
15:36
SPEAKER_02: It's just who he is.
15:38
SPEAKER_02: That is you and I by nature.
15:44
SPEAKER_02: Exactly who we are.
15:50
SPEAKER_02: What changes?
15:52
SPEAKER_02: I already said that I don't have I don't have power in my voice to do anything about it.
15:57
SPEAKER_02: I don't have power in my voice to raise the dead, to even move the head of a dead.
16:02
SPEAKER_02: Okay?
16:03
SPEAKER_02: I can't do it.
16:10
SPEAKER_02: We read a little on in this chapter that Saul met God.
16:17
SPEAKER_02: Saul had an encounter that changed his life.
16:22
SPEAKER_02: And there was no going back.
16:27
SPEAKER_02: And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus, and suddenly there shined around him a light from heaven.
16:37
SPEAKER_02: And he fell to the earth and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
16:51
SPEAKER_02: And he said, Who art thou, Lord?
16:54
SPEAKER_02: And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest.
16:58
SPEAKER_02: It is hard for thee to kick against pricks.
17:06
SPEAKER_02: As he was going out, breathing out threatenings and slaughters like nothing changed in his life, just waking up, and it's a normal Tuesday for him.
17:16
SPEAKER_02: He met God.
17:18
SPEAKER_02: He met God on the way.
17:21
SPEAKER_02: And he changed.
17:23
SPEAKER_02: He did a whole 180.
17:27
SPEAKER_02: Never looked back.
17:31
SPEAKER_02: There's something really interesting about this particular conversation that it never never really dawned on me till way too late.
17:46
SPEAKER_02: When Saul is bent down low to the ground and he's asking who's speaking to him, and he says, This is Jesus.
17:56
SPEAKER_02: I'm Jesus.
17:58
SPEAKER_02: Jesus is already, he's already ascended up into heaven.
18:04
SPEAKER_02: He's not persecuting Jesus physically.
18:08
SPEAKER_02: Jesus isn't isn't there.
18:11
SPEAKER_02: He's going around persecuting the church and the Lord's people.
18:15
SPEAKER_02: His broad.
18:20
SPEAKER_02: I don't know what troubles or trials you may be facing this life.
18:25
SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
18:27
SPEAKER_02: I don't know what persecutions from the world that you may be going through at this very moment that are weighing you down.
18:35
SPEAKER_02: But I I just I need you to know that the Lord takes it serious.
18:40
SPEAKER_02: When someone messes with his bride, it it hurts him.
18:46
SPEAKER_02: It hurts him.
18:58
SPEAKER_02: Jesus says in John chapter 6 that no man can come to the Father at all.
19:06
SPEAKER_02: There is nothing man can do, period, in and of himself, to come to the Father.
19:13
SPEAKER_02: Except.
19:16
SPEAKER_02: Except Jesus draws him to his Father.
19:25
SPEAKER_02: If Paul is a pattern here, I don't read a minister on the road preaching him a gospel sermon.
19:34
SPEAKER_02: I don't read a Bible being open.
19:36
SPEAKER_02: I don't read.
19:37
SPEAKER_02: I don't read a body of water for him to be baptized.
19:42
SPEAKER_02: I don't read.
19:44
SPEAKER_02: I don't read anywhere where Saul of Tars is saying, Lord, I accept.
19:54
SPEAKER_02: I don't read any of that.
19:56
SPEAKER_02: What I do read though, however, is Saul going out, breathing out threatenings and slaughters, going about his day, meeting the Lord, and the Lord doing a work.
20:12
SPEAKER_02: I don't read anything else.
20:16
SPEAKER_02: I've already quoted Ephesians 2, where it says, And you hath ye quickened, who were dead in trespasses and in sins?
20:25
SPEAKER_02: Wherein in times past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience, among whom also we all, let's slow down, among whom also we all had our conversation in times past, in the lust of the flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
20:58
SPEAKER_02: Just a very quick side note.
21:00
SPEAKER_02: It doesn't say that we were children of wrath, but we just had the same nature, the children of wrath.
21:07
SPEAKER_02: How do we get from that state of being dead in trespasses and in sins to being able to get up and move and live a life that is that is God-honoring?
21:19
SPEAKER_02: How are we able to get up and say, Lord, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do like Saul did?
21:25
SPEAKER_02: How?
21:27
SPEAKER_02: But God.
21:30
SPEAKER_02: But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love, wherewith he loved us.
21:40
SPEAKER_02: He's motivated by love to draw his children out of that darkness into his marvelous light.
21:55
SPEAKER_02: Paul says that he's a pattern to the young minister, Timothy.
22:05
SPEAKER_02: Again, he's saying he was saying he was the absolute worst person.
22:14
SPEAKER_02: But notice notice what Paul says in verse 15 of 1 Timothy chapter 1 again.
22:22
SPEAKER_02: He says, this is the faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation.
22:29
SPEAKER_02: This is faithful and true and good, and everyone should accept this truth.
22:36
SPEAKER_02: That Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.
22:48
SPEAKER_02: Now, I don't hear this as much anymore, but I used to hear some some older ministers.
22:54
SPEAKER_02: I'm not calling anyone here old, I'm just saying, in general, I've heard some older ministers sometimes, sometimes I know they mean well, but they'll say something along the lines of The Holy Spirit inspired Paul to say that he was the chief of sinners.
23:16
SPEAKER_02: Therefore, you and I are just fighting for second place.
23:19
SPEAKER_02: I understand the sentiment.
23:22
SPEAKER_02: I really get it.
23:23
SPEAKER_02: I get it.
23:27
SPEAKER_02: But I I do know some of you.
23:30
SPEAKER_02: And I do know that some of you have felt that same feeling.
23:46
SPEAKER_02: He didn't know I was coming.
23:48
SPEAKER_02: So he would he would he wo he would have said that he is saying the gospel message is very simple.
24:02
SPEAKER_02: Jesus Christ in the world Do you feel that Jesus died for you?
24:34
SPEAKER_02: There was no hope for me.
24:42
SPEAKER_02: Timothy, if there's ever anyone that you are ministering unto, if there's anyone that you come across that feels the way to their sins, you tell them that Jesus Christ came for them.
24:56
SPEAKER_02: Because Jesus Christ came for me.
24:59
SPEAKER_02: And Paul is a pattern for you and I to follow in this life while we're here.
25:04
SPEAKER_02: I pray that you guys could get something out of this this evening.
25:07
SPEAKER_02: Come ahead, Brother James.
25:46
SPEAKER_00: I've certainly enjoyed this time, and we appreciate the efforts of this church to host this meeting this weekend.
25:54
SPEAKER_00: I know a lot of labors of love have gone into it, and we appreciate that very much.
25:59
SPEAKER_00: And uh we're thankful for this opportunity we have had uh to be with you.
26:05
SPEAKER_00: Um it's been encouraging to see these young ministers that have preached today.
26:12
SPEAKER_00: I know when I was uh starting out trying to preach, I had a lot of questions and a lot of uh things I was wrestling with and trying to figure out.
26:21
SPEAKER_00: And so I would like to offer to the young ministers here.
26:25
SPEAKER_00: Um if you are and you're in need of guidance and help, I will give you Brother David Crawford's phone number.
26:32
SPEAKER_00: I would give you mine, but his would be better.
26:35
SPEAKER_00: Um so uh but we are encouraged by uh the not only that we have young ministers, but how well they're doing.
26:44
SPEAKER_00: And what a blessing that is from the Lord for sending us these gifts our way for the edification of the church.
26:51
SPEAKER_00: Um Bibles like the turn with me tonight, I certainly ask for your prayers, but turn with me to 1 Corinthians chapter 1.
27:07
SPEAKER_00: Mike mentioned I'm the pastor at Union Primitive Baptist Church in Ruth, Mississippi, and uh the text that's on my mind tonight is the first text I ever preached at Union, and I haven't preached on it since.
27:20
SPEAKER_00: Uh so you're very special people to hear that.
27:24
SPEAKER_00: I guess, I don't know, but uh we certainly uh beg the Lord's help um in this, although I have glanced at it a time or two in the last 15 years, but I uh certainly am in need of the Lord's help tonight, and I ask that you please pray all the time uh we look into the Lord's word with you tonight.
27:43
SPEAKER_00: In 1 Corinthians chapter 1, verse 30, it says, But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom and righteousness and sanctification and redemption, that according as it is written, he that gloryeth, let him glory in the Lord.
28:10
SPEAKER_00: That's my desire for us tonight is that we would glory in the Lord.
28:16
SPEAKER_00: Not in our circumstances.
28:18
SPEAKER_00: You know, I remember Jesus had some disciples come back to him in Luke chapter 10 and said, Lord, even the devils are subject to us through thy name, and they were rejoicing in that.
28:28
SPEAKER_00: And what a blessing a minister of the gospel feels when the Lord blesses him to preach.
28:33
SPEAKER_00: But that should not be the source of our joy.
28:36
SPEAKER_00: That should not be the source of what we glory in.
28:39
SPEAKER_00: Jesus told his disciples, I beheld Satan as lightning cast to the earth.
28:44
SPEAKER_00: Uh nevertheless in this, rejoice not, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.
28:49
SPEAKER_00: Our glory and our joy should be in something that does not change.
28:53
SPEAKER_00: It's always there.
28:54
SPEAKER_00: And if we glory in the Lord, he's the same yesterday, he's the same today, he's the same forever.
29:01
SPEAKER_00: That glory and that joy will always be there if we glory in the Lord.
29:06
SPEAKER_00: And we have a reason to, as was mentioned here in verse 30.
29:11
SPEAKER_00: He says, it's but of him.
29:12
SPEAKER_00: This is God.
29:14
SPEAKER_00: The Him is God.
29:15
SPEAKER_00: But of Him, of God are ye in Christ Jesus.
29:21
SPEAKER_00: Now that's been mentioned here a few times this weekend about being in Christ.
29:26
SPEAKER_00: That statement of being in Christ describes your position.
29:30
SPEAKER_00: Your position is in Christ.
29:33
SPEAKER_00: This is where you are legally and positionally.
29:37
SPEAKER_00: And I want to say, you didn't get in Christ by something that you did.
29:43
SPEAKER_00: We're like that person at the funeral home.
29:47
SPEAKER_00: We wouldn't do anything.
29:48
SPEAKER_00: We can't do anything.
29:49
SPEAKER_00: We're dead.
29:50
SPEAKER_00: Dead in trespasses and in sins.
29:54
SPEAKER_00: Now that's where we are in Adam.
29:56
SPEAKER_00: We are dead in trespasses and sins.
30:00
SPEAKER_00: And so for that to change for a dead person, that's the power beyond us that makes that happen.
30:06
SPEAKER_00: It's of him.
30:07
SPEAKER_00: It's of God.
30:09
SPEAKER_00: It's of God that we are in Christ Jesus.
30:12
SPEAKER_00: In fact, I believe that position of being in Christ Jesus is spelled out in Ephesians chapter 1.
30:17
SPEAKER_00: I'd encourage you to go count the number of times the word in, I in, is in Ephesians chapter 1.
30:23
SPEAKER_00: Blessed be the Father who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places, in Christ Jesus, according.
30:33
SPEAKER_00: These blessings come according as he, God, hath chosen us in him, in Christ.
30:40
SPEAKER_00: That's the position that you are in.
30:42
SPEAKER_00: And we were placed there, and that happened before the world began.
30:46
SPEAKER_00: When he chose us and placed us in Christ, we are already his.
30:51
SPEAKER_00: Before we ever come into this world, before even Jesus came in this world, we were already in him.
30:57
SPEAKER_00: Already belonging to him.
30:59
SPEAKER_00: He's graven us on the palms of his hands.
31:02
SPEAKER_00: We are in his hand.
31:04
SPEAKER_00: We are in this position that can never be plucked out.
31:09
SPEAKER_00: I came in contact with a man one time who uh he was of another order.
31:14
SPEAKER_00: And uh he said in conversation, because he brought up some things about the Lord and Bible, and uh we were actually supposed to be doing some work in the Little League field.
31:23
SPEAKER_00: I don't know how we got into that.
31:24
SPEAKER_00: He's like, I'm picking up on the fact that I think you're one of those once saved, always saved people.
31:30
SPEAKER_00: I said, Well, I think I'm guilty as charged.
31:33
SPEAKER_00: Well, I'd like to go to my car and get my Bible and show you some things.
31:36
SPEAKER_00: I said, Please do.
31:38
SPEAKER_00: Please show me.
31:40
SPEAKER_00: And he left and he came back, he didn't bring his Bible, uh, but he said, I bet you're gonna say that no man can pluck you out of God's hands.
31:50
SPEAKER_00: I said, Well, no, I was gonna say, nothing shall separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus, but that one will work.
31:58
SPEAKER_00: He said, Will um no man can pluck you out of his hand, but you can jump out.
32:04
SPEAKER_00: I said.
32:06
SPEAKER_00: I said, I guess that no man doesn't apply to me.
32:09
SPEAKER_00: It doesn't apply to the one jumping.
32:11
SPEAKER_00: I I don't know.
32:12
SPEAKER_00: I think that's still a part of no man can pluck you out.
32:15
SPEAKER_00: If you're graven on the palms of his hands, you are permanently etched there and you cannot be removed.
32:22
SPEAKER_00: If they could somehow pry the Lord's fingers back, they still can't get you out.
32:26
SPEAKER_00: You're graving in there.
32:28
SPEAKER_00: You are in God, and you are eternally secure in him.
32:32
SPEAKER_00: I'll tell you that happened because we are in Christ Jesus.
32:36
SPEAKER_00: But I'll tell you there's some benefits of being in Christ Jesus.
32:39
SPEAKER_00: Romans chapter 8, verse 1 says, There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.
32:48
SPEAKER_00: Those who are in the position of being in Christ Jesus, I can tell you something right now.
32:52
SPEAKER_00: Right now, there is no condemnation for you.
32:55
SPEAKER_00: Not the first condemnation.
32:58
SPEAKER_00: In 2 Corinthians chapter 5, verse 17, he says, Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature.
33:04
SPEAKER_00: Old things are passed away.
33:06
SPEAKER_00: Behold, all things become new.
33:08
SPEAKER_00: Now I'll tell you, that's a great description of what happens to a child of God who follows the pattern of solitars and goes from being dead in trespassing and sins to being alive in Jesus Christ.
33:19
SPEAKER_00: Old things have passed away.
33:22
SPEAKER_00: The old man's become crucified.
33:24
SPEAKER_00: Dying that slow death.
33:26
SPEAKER_00: You know, that's what a crucifixion is: a slow death.
33:30
SPEAKER_00: A slowly dying.
33:31
SPEAKER_00: Galatians 6.14, God forbid that I should glory save in the cross of Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified to me, and I unto the world.
33:42
SPEAKER_00: You know, the world's on a cross to us.
33:44
SPEAKER_00: It's dying a slow death, it's losing its luster.
33:47
SPEAKER_00: I remember when I was younger, I had so many.
33:50
SPEAKER_00: I was going to be this Major League Baseball player, I was going to be this pilot in the Air Force.
33:54
SPEAKER_00: I had all these aspirations, I had all these goals and visions, all this is going to be.
33:59
SPEAKER_00: I tell you, I'm not really interested in all that anymore.
34:03
SPEAKER_00: All that's kind of lost its luster.
34:05
SPEAKER_00: It's been dying a slow death since my youth.
34:07
SPEAKER_00: But you know, I've also been dying a slow death to this world.
34:11
SPEAKER_00: It's slowly and slowly uh I'm losing my usefulness to the world.
34:16
SPEAKER_00: I'm on a cross to the world.
34:18
SPEAKER_00: This old man is crucified.
34:20
SPEAKER_00: Old things have passed away.
34:22
SPEAKER_00: Behold, all things have become new.
34:25
SPEAKER_00: You know, we've been talking about how we've been chosen in Christ Jesus, but we've also been born again.
34:30
SPEAKER_00: You know, we talk about, Brother Philip was mentioned, God's words don't return to him void.
34:36
SPEAKER_00: You know, that's true in creation.
34:38
SPEAKER_00: He said, God said, let there be light, and there was light.
34:41
SPEAKER_00: That's true.
34:42
SPEAKER_00: His words did not return to him void.
34:44
SPEAKER_00: You know, when the Lord comes back again, he's going to call all that in our grace to come forth, and they're going to come forth.
34:50
SPEAKER_00: His words won't return to him void.
34:52
SPEAKER_00: So if that's the pattern, then why would it be different when we're born again?
34:57
SPEAKER_00: Why would God have a new pattern?
34:59
SPEAKER_00: It somehow involved our activity or something for us to do.
35:03
SPEAKER_00: Why would the pattern not be the same?
35:05
SPEAKER_00: I'll tell you, God is a God of pattern.
35:07
SPEAKER_00: When you do it perfectly, there's no need to improve upon it.
35:10
SPEAKER_00: There's no need to add anything or take anything away.
35:13
SPEAKER_00: When you do it perfectly, why change it?
35:16
SPEAKER_00: That's the pattern.
35:17
SPEAKER_00: We are in Christ, we are a new creature because God's powerful voice called us from being dead in trespassing sins to being alive in Jesus Christ.
35:27
SPEAKER_00: It's of God.
35:28
SPEAKER_00: That we are in Christ Jesus, who this is Christ Jesus, of God, is made unto us.
35:40
SPEAKER_00: Now notice this is also of God.
35:43
SPEAKER_00: This is something God did.
35:45
SPEAKER_00: Christ is made unto us some things.
35:49
SPEAKER_00: Now Jesus said in John 8 24 or 42, I'm getting dyslexic as I get older.
35:57
SPEAKER_00: I can't get my numbers straight.
35:59
SPEAKER_00: But he says, I proceeded forth and came forth from God.
36:03
SPEAKER_00: He came.
36:04
SPEAKER_00: Because God sent him.
36:06
SPEAKER_00: He came from God, and God made him some things to us.
36:12
SPEAKER_00: And 2 Corinthians 5, verse 21, it says, well, also I can't remember how to quote things when I get got some years left.
36:22
SPEAKER_00: 2 Corinthians 5, 21 says, I ought to know this.
36:27
SPEAKER_00: He says, For he, God, hath made him, Jesus, to be sin for us who knew no sin.
36:34
SPEAKER_00: God made Jesus, his son, to be sin for us who knew no sin.
36:40
SPEAKER_00: That we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
36:46
SPEAKER_00: You know, some people take offense.
36:48
SPEAKER_00: I don't like the thought of God making me do something.
36:52
SPEAKER_00: Well, I tell you, I like this thought.
36:55
SPEAKER_00: I like the thought that he's made us the righteousness of God in him.
37:00
SPEAKER_00: But in doing so, there's a divine exchange that took place.
37:04
SPEAKER_00: You know, some people say, Oh, the old Baptist doctrine, it's just not fair.
37:09
SPEAKER_00: May I say, I'm going to go on the record tonight, and this might surprise you tonight, but I'm going to say, Amen.
37:14
SPEAKER_00: It's not fair.
37:16
SPEAKER_00: It's not fair of the Son of God to take my sins and in exchange I get his righteousness.
37:22
SPEAKER_00: And what was fair about that?
37:24
SPEAKER_00: Who got the better end of that deal?
37:26
SPEAKER_00: And who got the worst end?
37:27
SPEAKER_00: But you know, love will do that to people.
37:30
SPEAKER_00: They will do things that, from a business sense, don't stand, don't seem right.
37:35
SPEAKER_00: Love will make you do things that you wouldn't otherwise do.
37:38
SPEAKER_00: And I'm thankful to tell you tonight about a Savior's love that loved you so much he is willing to take your sins to suffer, bleed, and die so that you can live in all eternity with him.
37:51
SPEAKER_00: Why would he love us so?
37:52
SPEAKER_00: Why?
37:53
SPEAKER_00: I can't answer that.
37:54
SPEAKER_00: I don't know why.
37:55
SPEAKER_00: Why would he love me so?
37:58
SPEAKER_00: It's of God.
37:59
SPEAKER_00: We're in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us.
38:03
SPEAKER_00: And now he's going to list four things.
38:04
SPEAKER_00: And these four things are all a sermon to themselves, so pray that we say what we need to say tonight, but not too much.
38:11
SPEAKER_00: But he says, Christ is made unto us first wisdom.
38:18
SPEAKER_00: I want you to consider tonight, and I want to mention this in James chapter 3.
38:24
SPEAKER_00: If Jesus had not come, what would this world be like?
38:29
SPEAKER_00: What kind of wisdom would we have?
38:31
SPEAKER_00: We'll say, what is wisdom?
38:32
SPEAKER_00: Well.
38:33
SPEAKER_00: You know, wisdom is the proper application of knowledge.
38:37
SPEAKER_00: Wisdom is to be able to, you know, you could study books and you could learn all kinds of knowledge, but uh if you can't properly apply that, then that's just knowledge.
38:48
SPEAKER_00: That's not wisdom.
38:49
SPEAKER_00: And the world by wisdom knows not God.
38:53
SPEAKER_00: Notice what he says here in James 3, in verse 15.
38:57
SPEAKER_00: This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish, for where envying and strife is, there's confusion in every evil word.
39:07
SPEAKER_00: This is the earthly wisdom.
39:08
SPEAKER_00: There is an earthly wisdom, and this would be all we had if Christ had not come.
39:14
SPEAKER_00: You know, Colossians 2 verse 3 says, In Christ are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
39:21
SPEAKER_00: You know, uh it's hard to be around people who have all the answers.
39:24
SPEAKER_00: Uh, you know, I uh oh man, I probably should not really be delving into this uh here tonight.
39:31
SPEAKER_00: I don't know where everybody stands on everything, but if you get around people who are involved in these conspiracy theories, you know what's interesting about them?
39:39
SPEAKER_00: They have all the answers.
39:41
SPEAKER_00: There's no uncertainty, no doubt.
39:43
SPEAKER_00: Oh, well, this happened because of this and this and this.
39:45
SPEAKER_00: They have it all figured out.
39:47
SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna tell you, there's a lot of uncertainties in life.
39:50
SPEAKER_00: In the Air Force, they taught us about the fog of war.
39:53
SPEAKER_00: There's just things that you don't know and you don't realize, and it's uncertainty there.
39:58
SPEAKER_00: You know, if we just had earthly wisdom and we didn't have the heavenly wisdom, I want you to see how much better the heavenly wisdom is.
40:07
SPEAKER_00: Verse 17.
40:08
SPEAKER_00: But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, without hypocrisy, and the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
40:27
SPEAKER_00: This is the wisdom we get as a result of Christ being made unto us wisdom.
40:33
SPEAKER_00: We would have this if it were not for Christ.
40:37
SPEAKER_00: Back here in 1 Corinthians chapter 1, I want you to notice earlier in this chapter, he says this in 1 Corinthians 1 verse 21, very quickly.
40:46
SPEAKER_00: He says, For after that in the wisdom of God, the world by wisdom knew not God.
40:52
SPEAKER_00: It pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
40:56
SPEAKER_00: For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified unto the Jews assembling block, and unto the Greeks foolishness, but unto them which are called.
41:08
SPEAKER_00: These are the ones who have been called out of being dead in trespassing since of being alive in Jesus Christ.
41:13
SPEAKER_00: These are the ones that the gospel has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ, the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
41:23
SPEAKER_00: I'll tell you what we have here in the church, what we have in the preaching of Jesus Christ and Him crucified is the wisdom of God.
41:30
SPEAKER_00: You know, I can't think of how it would be for God to save sinners such as we are, but I'm gonna tell you, God in all his wisdom devise means that his banish be not expelled from him.
41:45
SPEAKER_00: Only the Lord could have, in all his wisdom, done such a thing.
41:49
SPEAKER_00: How did he figure it out?
41:50
SPEAKER_00: I'll tell you.
41:51
SPEAKER_00: That tells you how great the wisdom of God is.
41:54
SPEAKER_00: His wisdom in sending his son, who in him are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
42:01
SPEAKER_00: That is the wisdom of God.
42:03
SPEAKER_00: And that's what we find here in the church.
42:05
SPEAKER_00: That's what's such a blessing to us here in the Lord's house is that we, our faith doesn't stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
42:14
SPEAKER_00: In the preaching of the cross, we see the preaching come to us, not just in word only.
42:20
SPEAKER_00: The preaching comes to us in power and in demonstration of the Spirit and much assurance.
42:26
SPEAKER_00: I tell you, we, our faith stands in the power of God, not in the wisdom of men, not in the wisdom of words.
42:33
SPEAKER_00: Christ has made unto us wisdom.
42:35
SPEAKER_00: We must move on or we'll never make it.
42:38
SPEAKER_00: He has made unto us wisdom and righteousness.
42:43
SPEAKER_00: Righteousness.
42:45
SPEAKER_00: You know, righteousness is something that by nature man does not have.
42:50
SPEAKER_00: Man by nature, the Bible says there is none righteous, no not one.
42:56
SPEAKER_00: They are all gone out of the way.
42:58
SPEAKER_00: There is none that doeth good.
43:00
SPEAKER_00: You know what is righteousness?
43:03
SPEAKER_00: If you go back to the Old Testament of that quotation there in Romans 3, there is none righteous, no not one.
43:09
SPEAKER_00: In the Old Testament, it says, there is none that doeth good.
43:12
SPEAKER_00: Righteousness is doing good.
43:15
SPEAKER_00: I love the fact that Peter preached to Cornelius in Acts chapter 10 and says, Jesus went about doing good.
43:22
SPEAKER_00: He went about in all his righteousness, fulfilling the law to a jot and a tittle.
43:29
SPEAKER_00: And Christ is made unto us righteousness.
43:33
SPEAKER_00: What do we have in the sight of God in the way of our righteousness?
43:37
SPEAKER_00: Well, Isaiah 64, 6 says, all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags.
43:41
SPEAKER_00: That ain't much.
43:43
SPEAKER_00: That's not very helpful.
43:44
SPEAKER_00: That's not much of a covering.
43:46
SPEAKER_00: That's not a very clean thing for us to be wearing.
43:49
SPEAKER_00: But I'll tell you, when it comes to the righteousness of Jesus Christ, the righteousness of saints described in Revelation 19, they are in the bloodwashed garments of fine linen, which is the righteousness of saints.
44:01
SPEAKER_00: We are clothed in his righteousness.
44:04
SPEAKER_00: Christ is made unto us righteousness.
44:06
SPEAKER_00: I love in Jeremiah chapter 23, 6, one of the names of God is the Lord our righteousness.
44:14
SPEAKER_00: The only way we stand in the sight of God righteous is because of his righteousness.
44:21
SPEAKER_00: You know, this word actually describes justification that what Brother Jeb was preaching about this morning.
44:29
SPEAKER_00: How we have been declared just.
44:32
SPEAKER_00: In the Lord's courtroom, he is God is the judge.
44:36
SPEAKER_00: But I'm thankful to tell you tonight that Jesus is the witness, the faithful witness.
44:42
SPEAKER_00: He's also your advocate.
44:44
SPEAKER_00: In that courtroom, we have a declaration that is made that is based not on what we have done, but on the precious blood of Jesus Christ.
44:53
SPEAKER_00: In Romans chapter 5, verse 9, we are justified by his blood.
44:58
SPEAKER_00: That is how we are made just.
45:00
SPEAKER_00: That word justified, Brother David, means just as if I had never sinned.
45:05
SPEAKER_00: That's the condition we're in.
45:06
SPEAKER_00: It's just as if we had never sinned in the sight of God.
45:10
SPEAKER_00: And the way he justified us and declared us righteous in his sight, that's only by the imputed righteousness of Jesus Christ.
45:18
SPEAKER_00: He was made to be sin for us, and we have received the righteousness of God in him.
45:24
SPEAKER_00: In Romans chapter 5, as Brother Phil is talking about representation.
45:29
SPEAKER_00: Adam represented us.
45:31
SPEAKER_00: We may not like that.
45:32
SPEAKER_00: He did.
45:33
SPEAKER_00: And by one man's disobedience, many were made sinners.
45:37
SPEAKER_00: We were made sinners.
45:38
SPEAKER_00: Made.
45:39
SPEAKER_00: We don't like that.
45:41
SPEAKER_00: We were made sinners.
45:42
SPEAKER_00: We didn't have a say in the matter.
45:44
SPEAKER_00: We were made sinners because our Father Adam made us that way.
45:49
SPEAKER_00: By the disobedience of one.
45:51
SPEAKER_00: But Romans 5.19 says, but by the obedience of one, many were made righteous.
45:56
SPEAKER_00: I'm thankful to tell you tonight about the obedience of one, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and by his faithful obedience tonight, we stand just and righteous in the sight of God because He's made unto us righteousness.
46:10
SPEAKER_00: He's made unto us wisdom.
46:12
SPEAKER_00: You know, in all his wisdom as our advocate.
46:16
SPEAKER_00: Isn't it wonderful when you're around people who just seem to know what to say and when to say it?
46:21
SPEAKER_00: That's what we have up in heaven tonight.
46:24
SPEAKER_00: We go to the Lord in prayer.
46:26
SPEAKER_00: But I don't know if you're like me.
46:27
SPEAKER_00: I get kind of discouraged about prayer because I just don't seem to have the right words to say.
46:32
SPEAKER_00: I don't know what to say.
46:33
SPEAKER_00: I don't know how to pray.
46:36
SPEAKER_00: And sometimes my prayers are just groanings which cannot be uttered.
46:42
SPEAKER_00: But our advocate, our high priest, intercedes on our behalf with this wisdom that needs to be declared on our behalf.
46:50
SPEAKER_00: He's made unto us wisdom, righteousness, sanctification.
46:55
SPEAKER_00: You know, sanctification is to be set apart for a holy use.
47:00
SPEAKER_00: And it carries with it the idea of a cleansing.
47:04
SPEAKER_00: That you don't just set it apart, but you cleanse it.
47:08
SPEAKER_00: A cleansing that takes place.
47:10
SPEAKER_00: In the Old Testament tabernacle, there'll be an understanding of what this meant.
47:14
SPEAKER_00: And we can see this in Hebrews chapter 10, where they would separate some people, the priests, they would separate some things they used to worship.
47:23
SPEAKER_00: They were not common, they were separated.
47:26
SPEAKER_00: Now I'm telling you tonight that Christ is made unto us also sanctification.
47:31
SPEAKER_00: There's a separation that takes place.
47:33
SPEAKER_00: Notice here in Hebrews chapter 10.
47:36
SPEAKER_00: He says, and I wish we could get more of this, but he says he's coming to do God's will.
47:43
SPEAKER_00: Verse 9, verse 10.
47:44
SPEAKER_00: By the which will, God's will, the Father's will, which Jesus said, I came down from heaven not to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me.
47:51
SPEAKER_00: By that will, we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
48:00
unknown: Amen.
48:01
SPEAKER_00: It's the offering that Jesus made.
48:04
SPEAKER_00: He offered himself to you to see if you would accept him.
48:07
SPEAKER_00: Is that what he means by that?
48:08
SPEAKER_00: No.
48:10
SPEAKER_00: He offered himself, but not to us.
48:13
SPEAKER_00: Those priests, those high priests, they never made an offering to the people and said, Will you accept this?
48:19
SPEAKER_00: They offered the offering to the Lord to see if he would accept it.
48:23
SPEAKER_00: Because in the in the courtroom of God's law, the great judge is the only one that matters.
48:29
SPEAKER_00: You know, I look in the Old Testament, and all the kings that reigned in Israel and Judah were measured by one standard, and this is it.
48:36
SPEAKER_00: Whether they did right in the sight of God or not, that was the standard.
48:40
SPEAKER_00: You always say, well, I think this is right.
48:43
SPEAKER_00: I don't see anything wrong with this.
48:44
SPEAKER_00: It doesn't matter what we think, there's only one that matters what he thinks, and that's what the Lord thinks.
48:49
SPEAKER_00: We don't change what is right and what is good just because the world has changed.
48:55
SPEAKER_00: Oh, let's keep the world away from our philosophy and our way of thinking.
49:00
SPEAKER_00: What matters is what he says is right and what he says is good.
49:06
SPEAKER_00: Now I'm telling you, in the eyes of God, it doesn't matter what our eyes see.
49:10
SPEAKER_00: In Acts chapter 10, Peter had some people come to him from the household of Cornelius.
49:15
SPEAKER_00: The Lord had to deal with the preacher first.
49:18
SPEAKER_00: You know, what you all don't see is the way the Lord deals with these preachers before they ever get in the pulpit to talk to you.
49:25
SPEAKER_00: He dealt with the apostle Peter, and he was up on a rooftop praying and fell into a trance, and he was hungry, and uh, it was time to eat.
49:33
SPEAKER_00: And so this vessel with all these unclean animals comes down from heaven.
49:38
SPEAKER_00: And a voice saying, Rise, Peter, slay and eat.
49:42
SPEAKER_00: What's Peter saying?
49:43
SPEAKER_00: Not so, Lord.
49:45
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we're already in trouble.
49:46
SPEAKER_00: We start saying that.
49:48
SPEAKER_00: Oh, well, the word of God says this, but oh no, not so, Lord.
49:53
SPEAKER_00: For nothing common or unclean has ever entered into my mouth.
49:57
SPEAKER_00: What a spotless record.
49:59
SPEAKER_00: That's great.
50:03
SPEAKER_00: I've had a lot of unclean things enter my mouth.
50:07
SPEAKER_00: I don't have a very good record in that regard.
50:10
SPEAKER_00: Uh, you know, I've been going to the doctor lately, and that's become more frequent because my numbers are not what they should be.
50:18
SPEAKER_00: Um, I had to change what I ate, how I, you know, what I was doing.
50:23
SPEAKER_00: I had to I had to fix that.
50:25
SPEAKER_00: Because I was about to go on medicine.
50:27
SPEAKER_00: I don't want to be on medicine.
50:28
SPEAKER_00: I've gone my whole life on medicine.
50:30
SPEAKER_00: I don't want to be on medicine.
50:31
SPEAKER_00: Keep me away from the medicine.
50:33
SPEAKER_00: Peter saw these unclean animals.
50:36
SPEAKER_00: My spotless record will be tarnished if I eat that.
50:39
SPEAKER_00: But where did this voice come from?
50:41
SPEAKER_00: It came from the Lord.
50:43
SPEAKER_00: Not so, Lord, for nothing common or unclean has ever entered into my mouth.
50:48
SPEAKER_00: And the response was, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
50:56
SPEAKER_00: What he has sanctified, what he has set apart, and what he has cleansed, that's not something that's common.
51:04
SPEAKER_00: You are a special people.
51:06
SPEAKER_00: The Lord dwells in your heart.
51:08
SPEAKER_00: Jesus has come into your heart.
51:10
SPEAKER_00: He's made unto you sanctification.
51:12
SPEAKER_00: He has sanctified you for this holy use.
51:16
SPEAKER_00: And what a special people you are, as he says in the 14th verse.
51:19
SPEAKER_00: For by one offering, what Jesus did, he has perfected forever them that are sanctified.
51:26
SPEAKER_00: You know, you are set apart by the Father, Jude says.
51:29
SPEAKER_00: You are sanctified of God.
51:31
SPEAKER_00: Sanctified of God of the Father.
51:33
SPEAKER_00: And he came and he cleansed you by his offering.
51:37
SPEAKER_00: And he not only cleansed you from the sin, purged you from the sin, he purged the sin itself.
51:44
SPEAKER_00: And he perfected forever them that are sanctified.
51:51
SPEAKER_00: You know, as we consider what Christ has made unto us, he's made unto us wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption.
52:04
SPEAKER_00: Redemption carries with it the idea of prior ownership.
52:09
SPEAKER_00: You know, the Bible could have just said every time where it said redemption, uh, he purchased.
52:16
SPEAKER_00: He did purchase, but redemption takes it a step further and implies there's prior ownership.
52:21
SPEAKER_00: You're redeeming or buying back that which already belongs to you.
52:26
SPEAKER_00: You know, you belong to the Lord when you were placed in Christ Jesus.
52:30
SPEAKER_00: In that everlasting covenant before the world began, you are already the Lord's purchased possession.
52:37
SPEAKER_00: And so when the angel Gabriel comes on the scene in Matthew 1.21, he declares who Jesus came to save.
52:43
SPEAKER_00: He shall save who?
52:45
SPEAKER_00: His people from their sins.
52:47
SPEAKER_00: Who are his people?
52:49
SPEAKER_00: Those who already belong to him before the world began.
52:53
SPEAKER_00: Those who were there in that covenant that the God had made among themselves.
52:59
SPEAKER_00: He has made unto us redemption.
53:02
SPEAKER_00: Redemption.
53:03
SPEAKER_00: If you turn me to Romans chapter 3, I want you to notice what it says here in the third chapter of Romans.
53:09
SPEAKER_00: He says, in Romans chapter 3, he says, um, for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, and we have.
53:21
SPEAKER_00: Verse 24, being justified, made, declared righteous, freely, by his grace, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
53:35
SPEAKER_00: There it is.
53:36
SPEAKER_00: The position of being in Christ Jesus.
53:39
SPEAKER_00: There's redemption in Christ Jesus.
53:41
SPEAKER_00: And I want to tell you what kind of redemption that is.
53:44
SPEAKER_00: This is not redemption that is based on silver and gold.
53:48
SPEAKER_00: You know, there are some people who have some riches in this world.
53:51
SPEAKER_00: Psalm 49 describes people like that.
53:53
SPEAKER_00: People have a lot of money.
53:55
SPEAKER_00: Those who have all these riches.
53:57
SPEAKER_00: It says, let not the rich man glory in his riches, for none of them can by any means redeem their brother.
54:03
SPEAKER_00: For, he says this in parentheses, for the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth forever.
54:12
SPEAKER_00: Those two ideas carry with it redemption.
54:15
SPEAKER_00: The redemption is precious.
54:16
SPEAKER_00: What does that mean?
54:17
SPEAKER_00: You know how expensive are the costs that it took to redeem you?
54:22
SPEAKER_00: There's not enough silver and gold on this earth to redeem you.
54:26
SPEAKER_00: Not one of us could be redeemed with all the silver and gold of this earth.
54:29
SPEAKER_00: 1 Peter chapter 1 says, For you redeem not with corruptible things such as silver and gold, but with the precious blood of Jesus Christ as a lamb without blemish and without spot.
54:40
SPEAKER_00: What a price.
54:43
SPEAKER_00: The blood of Jesus Christ.
54:45
SPEAKER_00: The redemption of our souls is precious.
54:50
SPEAKER_00: And it ceaseth forever.
54:52
SPEAKER_00: Notice Hebrews 9, verse 12.
54:55
SPEAKER_00: He says, It's getting late, I guess.
55:00
SPEAKER_00: I just cannot recall these scriptures.
55:02
SPEAKER_00: Hebrews 9, verse 12.
55:04
SPEAKER_00: Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood.
55:10
SPEAKER_00: He entered in once into the holy place, having obtained, this is finished, it's accomplished.
55:16
SPEAKER_00: It is finished.
55:18
SPEAKER_00: Having obtained, he has this in his possession.
55:22
SPEAKER_00: Eternal redemption for us.
55:28
SPEAKER_00: Ceaseth forever.
55:29
SPEAKER_00: It's eternal.
55:30
SPEAKER_00: There on the cross at Calvary, here in a time in a place in time, he did an eternal transaction.
55:38
SPEAKER_00: He obtained eternal redemption.
55:42
SPEAKER_00: And I love this.
55:44
SPEAKER_00: For us.
55:46
SPEAKER_00: He did it for us.
55:48
SPEAKER_00: Your husband.
55:50
SPEAKER_00: Your captain, your leader, your commander, your mighty warrior.
55:54
SPEAKER_00: He did this for us.
55:56
SPEAKER_00: You know it's a blessing to live in this country and to have soldiers willing to risk their lives for us, for their families, for their country.
56:07
SPEAKER_00: And we ought to honor them for the sacrifices they make.
56:12
SPEAKER_00: But I'm going to tell you what Jesus Christ did on that cross at Calvary.
56:15
SPEAKER_00: He did for us.
56:17
SPEAKER_00: It ought to mean something to us.
56:19
SPEAKER_00: It ought to mean something.
56:20
SPEAKER_00: So we come together in the communion service where he says, This do in remembrance of me.
56:27
SPEAKER_00: Remember him who did this for us.
56:31
SPEAKER_00: He obtained eternal redemption for us.
56:34
SPEAKER_00: Now in close, and I want to go to Romans chapter 3.
56:37
SPEAKER_00: Brother David mentioned a term.
56:42
SPEAKER_00: The wounds of Eden.
56:45
SPEAKER_00: And you know, what we have in Adam is a big problem.
56:52
SPEAKER_00: It's a sin problem.
56:55
SPEAKER_00: The wounds of Eden.
56:56
SPEAKER_00: What a thought.
56:58
SPEAKER_00: The only one who could cure the wounds of Eden is Jesus, who has made unto us wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption.
57:06
SPEAKER_00: Notice this in Romans chapter 3.
57:09
SPEAKER_00: He says, as it is written, verse 10, there is none righteous, no, not one.
57:15
SPEAKER_00: Well, I'll tell you, Christ has made unto us righteousness.
57:19
SPEAKER_00: He's cured that one.
57:21
SPEAKER_00: There's none righteous.
57:23
SPEAKER_00: Well now we are, because he's made unto us righteousness.
57:26
SPEAKER_00: Verse 11.
57:28
SPEAKER_00: There is none that understandeth, none that seeketh after God.
57:31
SPEAKER_00: None that understandeth, he's made unto us wisdom.
57:35
SPEAKER_00: He's cured that one.
57:36
SPEAKER_00: It says in verse 12, they are all gone out of the way.
57:42
SPEAKER_00: They are together become unprofitable.
57:46
SPEAKER_00: They are all gone out of the way.
57:48
SPEAKER_00: And together.
57:50
SPEAKER_00: You know, we all had our conversation in time past, as Brother Alec was talking about, according to the lust of the flesh, and by nature the children of wrath, even.
58:00
SPEAKER_00: That's where we are together in Adam.
58:02
SPEAKER_00: You know the bad thing about sinners, and anyone in the school system will understand this.
58:08
SPEAKER_00: I understand it from the little league program that we had.
58:12
SPEAKER_00: One sinner's bad enough, but you start getting them together, boy, they can really cause some problems.
58:18
SPEAKER_00: Amen.
58:19
SPEAKER_00: Together.
58:20
SPEAKER_00: They can cause some major problems.
58:23
SPEAKER_00: And so, what do you have to do?
58:25
SPEAKER_00: You've got to separate them.
58:28
SPEAKER_00: And so, they're together become unprofitable.
58:31
SPEAKER_00: We all had our conversation.
58:32
SPEAKER_00: And so, what did the Lord do?
58:33
SPEAKER_00: He separated us, he sanctified us.
58:36
SPEAKER_00: Christ is made unto us sanctification.
58:40
SPEAKER_00: He's curing the wounds of Eden, separating us from the sons of Adam.
58:46
SPEAKER_00: And we'll see that one day when he, as a shepherd, divideth his sheep from negos.
58:51
SPEAKER_00: We'll see that divine separation.
58:53
SPEAKER_00: We'll see that sanctification on that day.
58:56
SPEAKER_00: How we're not like everybody.
58:57
SPEAKER_00: We are not of this world.
58:59
SPEAKER_00: We are bought with a price.
59:00
SPEAKER_00: We are the precious children of God.
59:04
SPEAKER_00: But the problem with sin is even though you take care of all these problems, every time you sin, you incur a debt that must be paid.
59:15
SPEAKER_00: It's incurring a debt.
59:17
SPEAKER_00: More debt.
59:18
SPEAKER_00: Every time you sin, it's more debt.
59:19
SPEAKER_00: More, more spending every time you sin.
59:22
SPEAKER_00: A debt that must be paid.
59:24
SPEAKER_00: Well, I'll tell you, Jesus is made into us redemption.
59:28
SPEAKER_00: He not only took care of all the wounds of Eden, He paid the price.
59:33
SPEAKER_00: He bore our burdens.
59:35
SPEAKER_00: May we never glory in anything but in the Lord.
59:38
SPEAKER_00: I thank you for a good thing.
59:47
SPEAKER_00: Amen to what we've heard, and um so thankful for it.
59:52
SPEAKER_00: Want to um publish the fact that the doors of the church are
